Caearnarian Deer Pantheon

    open/close all folders

    General
  • Defector from Decadence: Many of the Caearnarian Deer deities were originally members of the Elternteil Deer Pantheon, usually sons, daughters, and relatives of Irminsul and Arvan. They eventually left because they grew sick of their leaders' haughtiness and toxic hypocrisy, but didn't have the courage or strength to act themselves until Naur defied his parents.
  • Expy: As a whole, they're based on the Elven pantheon from Warhammer. However, unlike the Elven pantheon, the Caearnarian Deer deities are much more involved in the lives of their mortal Deer subjects.
  • Fantasy Pantheon: The Caearnarian Deer Pantheon is the third sub-pantheon of Deer to form, led by siblings Phoenix King Naur and his younger sister, Everqueen Naneth. This pantheon was formed when Naur, through a series of events, grew extremely disillusioned and bitter with his haughty, puristic family and their Alvslog subjects, and left home to succeed where the Elternteil Deer Pantheon failed. While the Caearnarian Deer deities watch over a verdant and lush island paradise where their mortal followers had settled down, they encourage the Caearnarian Deer Herds to be more open and tolerant, and have taken measures to ensure that they won't become as bad as their former Alvslog kindred.
  • Foil: Collectively, they are this to the Elternteil Deer Pantheon. The Elternteil Deer deities are haughty, purisitic, reactionary, and xenophobic, and their toxic mindsets influenced their Alvslog Deer subjects to behave the same way, leading to both parties being massively disliked by the outside world. In contrast, the Caearnarian Deer deities are more open-minded and tolerant, and seek to help their Caearnarian Deer subjects build great civilizations without falling into the same traps that will eventually doom the Alvslog Deer Herds.
  • The Marvelous Deer: Unlike their family in the Elternteil Deer Pantheon, who are Jerkass Gods, the Caearnarian Deer deities play it straight by seeking to improve where Irminsul and Arvan had failed as rulers. Thus, they have been guiding the mortal Caearnarian Deer Herds to build shining empires and realms, while preventing them from falling into the same traps of arrogance, xenophobia, and stagnancy that affected the Alvslog Deer Herds.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Unlike their Elternteil Deer counterparts, they are genuinely benevolent, and are much kinder and tolerant towards non-Deer races and things the Elternteil Deer Pantheon would normally balk at. And while they have been guiding the Caearnarian Deer Herds to build wondrous shining kingdoms and empires, they also don't shield them from Evil entirely, and discourage their subjects from becoming too haughty and complacent, which is one of the Alvslog Deer Herds' biggest failings.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: The Caearnarian Deer Pantheon came to be when a number of Irminsul and Arvan's children, relatives, and allies, disgusted with their arrogance and toxic hypocrisy, decided to leave the Elternteil Deer Pantheon after being inspired by Naur's defiance of his parents, despite knowing that they'll be effectively disowned.
  • Start My Own: The Caearnarian Deer Pantheon was created because its founder, Phoenix King Naur, wanted to improve (many) elements of Alvslog Deer society that he personally found lacking, such as the complacent arrogance, xenophobia, and self-righteous attitudes. This led to the founding and success of Caearnar.

Phoenix King Naur, the Flame of Caearnar

Classification: Ethereal/Elemental

Portfolio: Fire, Sovereignty, Justice, Renewal

Rank: Divine (Tier IV/Greater)

"So long as the fires of renewal burn, Caeanar shall know sovereignty and justice."

Phoenix King Naur (his entry here) is the Caearnarian Deer god of Fire, Sovereignty, Justice, and Renewal, and is one of two co-leaders of the Caearnarian Deer Pantheon.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Naur was psychologically abused by his parents for being born a Fire god, and this, combined with constantly witnessing their repeated hypocrisy, left him with serious issues like a very bad temper and an inferiority complex. In canon, Asuryan never goes through this due to having very little in the way of backstory and personality.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: Unlike the Elven god Asuryan, who gets little backstory in canon, Naur has a Dark and Troubled Past concerning his life as a former Elternteil Deer god, which involves growing up with Abusive Parents who treated him differently for being born a Fire god, killed one of his younger brothers in-utero in their attempt to make him flawless, and were extremely hypocritical and toxic in general. Their attempt to condemn an innocent Blue Suede Heartstrings for "stealing away" their mortal subjects and their refusal to heed Naur's warnings of an upcoming disaster (which did happen, but under circumstances that were the Alvslog Deer Herds' own fault) caused him to snap, attack his own father, and leave home to start his own pantheon.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: He's a Caearnarian Deer god who embodies Fire, Sovereignty, Justice, and Renewal.
  • Big Brother Instinct: While Naur initially acted as an Aloof Big Brother towards Temnobog and condoned the latter's abuse, the circumstances that led to the abuse eventually caused Naur to sympathize with his brother, since it was not so different from his own situation. He tried to help in secret by having Kúzelník teach him spells and hexes in hopes that he'll get their more abusive siblings and relatives to leave Temnobog alone... only for Temnobog's abuse to increase because everyone thought the Dark One was responsible, much to Naur's horror. Naur harbored guilt for his inability to protect Temnobog for centuries, so much that he let his brother "do with him as he wished" after visiting the Bogolenya Deer Pantheon and explaining everything. Temnobog forgave him instead, now knowing the truth and realizing not everyone in the Elternteil Deer Pantheon wanted him dead for existing.
    • This can apply to the entire Bogolenya Deer Pantheon, since many of its members are Naur's younger siblings. After letting them visit him in Caearnar, Naur made it clear to his own pantheon that anyone mistreating the Bogolenya deities will be punished.
  • Black-and-White Morality: While not as bad as the Elternteil Deer Pantheon, whose members are extremely intolerant of things they deemed 'evil', he is still puristic to a degree due to his childhood, something he admits to. Unlike Temnobog, he is uncomfortable with the idea of using Evil to test mortals, and believes that doing so will make people lose hope and see the gods as malicious, manipulative, and heavy-hoofed tyrants. Thus, he thinks it's possible for places to thrive and prosper without resorting to Evil, as shown with the realms of Vertusia. Temnobog has been trying to get him to see his viewpoint and is hopeful that he will eventually, but it's noted to be an uphill battle for both of them.
  • The Chooser of the One: As a god of Sovereignty, Naur has the ability to grant legitimate sovereignty to those he deems worthy - in his case, his chosen recipients are always Kings due to his half of Caearnar being ruled by a patriarchal Elective Monarchy. Those chosen by Naur receive a fraction of his divine power, just enough to help them rule their kingdoms, and are protected from jealous, power-hungry usurpers... but Naur can also strip a King of both his sovereignty and magic if his crimes are severe. There's also the fact that all prospective Kings must prove their worthiness first by bask themselves in Naur's holy flames before they could inherit the throne. If they're found to be truly virtuous and self-sacrificing, then the chosen King emerges unharmed. But if not...
  • Close to Home:
    • Naur strongly disapproves of things like excessive pride and hypocrisy in authority figures, to the point where he devised a deadly Secret Test of Character for prospective Deer Kings that involved throwing oneself into his holy flames to prove their worth. This stems from his bad experiences with his father, Irminsul, who in Naur's eyes failed to be a proper High King and father by being a massive Jerkass who imparted toxic, hypocritical mindsets into his family and mortal subjects.
    • Naur also hates racism and xenophobia, and his laws on such behavior are noted to be very harsh. This stems from watching his family and Alvslog subjects look down non-Deer races for being 'impure', selfish, and destructive towards nature, only to be proven wrong when he witnessed all the good things non-Deer can do after leaving home. Naur's hatred of racism also stems from watching how his family horribly abused Blue Suede Heartstrings for interacting with the Alvslog Deer Herds, and prevented Naur from judging Blue Suede fairly by replacing him with the xenophobic King Aspen during the trial.
  • Cruel Mercy: Right before leaving the Elternteil Deer Pantheon with his followers, Naur proceeds to point out to Irminsul that he could've just chosen to strip his father of his divine sovereignty for all the horrible things he did... but then decides watching his own father fall further in ignominy while losing everything he loves due to his own actions would be more satisfying.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Naur's antlers and parts of his body are made of black volcanic rock. His divine barding is also made of volcanic rock, rumored In-Universe to have been forged in the Jotunn Deer realm of Muspelheim as a reward for besting a divine Fire Jotunn in combat. Despite his intimidating appearance, he's a very tolerant and fair King of Caearnar who rules the island alongside his sister, Naneth. His Elternteil Deer family, especially his parents, only saw him as 'evil' for embodying Fire, since in their eyes Fire is nothing but a purely destructive force that cannot benefit nature in any way.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: As a Deer god, he has an enhanced version of Deerkind's Earth magic. However, compared to his family and relatives in both the Elternteil and Caearnarian Deer Pantheons, he doesn't use it very much.
  • Evil Is Burning Hot: Inverted. Despite being a Fire god, he rules one half of Caearnar as the benevolent Phoenix King, and is a firm yet tolerant and merciful Reasonable Authority Figure who simply wants to share Caearnar's greatness with the outside world. However, his early life deconstructs it - because he was born embodying Fire, both Irminsul and Arvan constantly treated him as a disappointment and discouraged him from using his fire magic out of belief that fire in general is not beneficial to nature. This eventually left him with serious issues, such as an inferiority complex and a Hair-Trigger Temper, which both Mentálne and Amour-De-Soi are helping him overcome.
  • Expy: He's based on Asuryan, the Top God of the High Elf pantheon. Like Asuryan, he's strongly associated with fire and rules over the patriarchal half of Ulthuan, where potential Kings are judged through a Secret Test of Character where they must bask in his holy flames to prove themselves worthy. He also bears the title of 'Phoenix King', also the official title of a male High Elf ruler. Unlike Asuryan, though, his backstory and personality were massively expanded to show how he became the ruler of his own Deer Herds and pantheon.
  • Fire Purifies: As a god of Fire, he can wield holy fire, which came from combining his fire magic with knowledge of holy magic passed down to him by Irminsul. This allows him to burn foul magic and truly evil entities without worrying about harming innocents. He also uses his holy fire as part of his Secret Test of Character, where prospective Caearnarian Deer Kings must bask themselves in their flames in order to prove themselves worthy of his blessings. However, he is outmatched by Golden Scepter himself, who is a vastly powerful and experienced fire mage.
  • Forgiveness:
    • Despite Naur understandably expecting Temnobog to punish him for his condoning and unwitting encouragement of his brother's fawnhood abuse, Temnobog forgave him instead. This is because he saw not everyone in the Elternteil Deer Pantheon wanted him dead for existing, and recognized that Naur, for all his faults, genuinely cared about him even though he wasn't allowed to show it.
    • Naur would later be forgiven by Blue Suede Heartstrings, who knows he tried to help him be declared innocent during his trial and doesn't blame Naur for how the Elternteil Deer Pantheon abused him.
  • Freudian Excuse: Much of his behavior and beliefs were influenced by how his family and mortal Alvslog subjects behaved around him and others, turning him into the person he is today.
    • Despite being a Seer himself (albeit one who uses pyromantic divination), Naur doesn't put much stock in prophecies in general, so he encourages Caearnarian Seers to make their own decisions and act directly. This stems from witnessing the Alvslog Deer Herds become overconfident in their Seers' ability to predict everything, as well as having both his and Blue Suede Heartstrings' forewarnings of a future disaster be ignored by his complacent and stubborn family until the disaster actually happened.
    • His anger issues and his inferiority complex came from his psychologically abusive childhood. Irminsul and Arvan constantly treated him as a 'disappointment' for being born a Fire god out of belief that his domain is dangerous to nature, making him believe that he is worthless and harmful to everything around him. He also had trouble speaking up when it counted because he was genuinely afraid of becoming a target of his parents' wrath should he oppose their hypocritical beliefs and extreme intolerance of anything they deemed 'evil'. Thankfully, various people are helping him overcome these issues, with Mentálne and Amour-De-Soi serving as his therapists.
    • His Black-and-White Morality also stems from his childhood, something that he admits to and is trying to overcome. While not as bad as the Elternteil Deer Pantheon, he still doesn't agree with using Evil to test mortals and believes it is possible for places to prosper without it, such as the realms of Vertusia ruled by Virtuecrat Fairytale. Temnobog has been showing them that said places are merely exceptions, not the rule, though it's noted to be an uphill battle for both of them.
  • The Good King: As the ruling Phoenix King of the Caearnarian Deer Pantheon, he is genuinely regarded as one, both within the Deer realms of Caearnar and the outside world. But what makes him a genuinely Reasonable Authority Figure is that he allows his mortal subjects to build wondrous shining kingdoms and realms, while discouraging their development of flaws like pride, complacency, and xenophobia, and only allows truly virtuous Deer Kings to rule his half of Caearnar. This is in stark contrast to his father, High King Irminsul, who is beloved in the Alvslog Deer realms yet is massively disliked by the greater world for his haughty, xenophobic, and Jerkass attitudes as well as his abusive treatment of his own children.
  • Green Thumb: As a Deer god, he has an enhanced version of Deerkind's Nature magic. However, compared to his family and relatives in both the Elternteil and Caearnarian Deer Pantheons, he doesn't use it very much.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Justified and deconstructed. Despite his efforts to be The Good King, his entry notes that he has serious anger issues. His emotionally abusive upbringing, combined with his difficulty in expressing his problems to his loved ones, has led to numerous instances where he violently lashed out at his siblings, relatives, and allies over perceived insults. What makes it even worse is his fire magic, which are tied to his emotions - the angrier he is, the hotter he burns and the stronger he becomes, to the point where he can become uncontrollable. Fortunately, both his grandniece Mentálne and the Alicorn goddess Amour-De-Soi, as well as his friends and family from the Bogolenya and Hoyklan Deer Pantheons, have been helping him overcome this problem.
  • Happily Adopted: He ends up being adopted by Golden Scepter as his son. Having finally found a parental figure who loves and accepts him for who he is despite embodying Fire, Naur proceeds to break down crying.
Emperor Golden Scepter]]: (to Phoenix King Naur) You do not need to worry about getting killed for embodying Fire, or 'purified' of your inner flaws, Naur. Not in my home. That self-righteous High King cannot reach you there, and will never succeed no matter how hard he tries, for the opposition he faces is quite strong. And I believe that a few of my sons embody Fire as well, just like you do. I think you and your sister will be welcomed additions to the family.
  • Have You Tried Not Being a Monster?: Deconstructed. Since birth, Naur was constantly treated by Irminsul and Arvan (and by extension, the Elternteil Deer Pantheon) as a disappointment because he was born embodying Fire, and was discouraged from using his Fire domain at all. This left Naur very miserable in his youth, and it later contributed to his nasty falling-out with his parents after he finally grew fed up with their abuse and toxic hypocrisy. Even after becoming a benevolent and successful Phoenix King of Caernar, Naur's abusive upbringing left him with serious issues like an inferiority complex and a really bad temper that he tries his hardest to rein in. Fortunately, he has Mentálne, Amour-De-Soi, and various benevolent family members and allies to help him through it, but it's noted that Naur's recovery is still far from over.
  • Holy Burns Evil: Literally. Naur combining his fiery nature with the holy magics taught by his father Irminsul resulted in the creation of holy, purifying flames that burn away genuine evil and corruption, but also heals and empowers those who are genuinely good and pure. In the Deer kingdoms of Caeanar, any Deer stag who display virtuous traits would enter his Secret Test of Character and emerge from Naur's flames unharmed and imbued with Naur's divine power, allowing them to inherit the throne. For those who are genuinely amoral/evil, the holy flames become their funeral pyre as they are reduced to ashes. Naur's nature and proficiency means his holy flames are powerful, although he is still surpassed by the much older and more experienced Emperor Golden Scepter in terms of skill and strength in creating/wielding purifying fires.
  • Holy Halo: He's noted to have a radiant halo adorning his head like some of his siblings - in his case, his halo is made of fire.
  • I Have No Son!: Played straight with his mother, Arvan. In her attempt to stop his fight with Irminsul, which was destroying the divine realm they lived in, she gave Naur permission to leave home, yet warned him that if he does leave, he will be no longer welcome in their house and family. Then it's inverted with Naur as the feeling seems to be mutual; Naur had already disowned his parents as family after finally having enough of their hypocritical, reactionary, xenophobic and puristic zeal, and took Arvan's permission as a chance to leave the Eltenteil Deer Pantheon and form his own pantheon.
  • Kill It with Fire: What his holy flames end up doing to those who fail to pass his Secret Test of Character. If a prospective Deer King basks himself in Naur's flames with selfish and/or malicious ambition in his heart, then the flames instantly become his funeral pyre.
  • A Mistake Is Born: While not to the extent of his younger brother, Temnobog, Naur was still abused, distrusted, and looked down upon by most of his family for being born a Fire deity. His parents' efforts to discourage use of his Fire domain and mold him into something according to their standards would later give him lots of psychological issues that he's still recovering from long after he left home, such as an inferiority complex as well as serious anger issues. It also led to him becoming very close to Temnobog, since they both understood what it's like to be born embodying things their parents didn't like. Fortunately, he would be adopted as a son by Golden Scepter, who isn't perturbed by his Fire domain at all and in fact sees him as a "welcome addition" to his family]].
  • Must Make Amends: Naur felt responsible for his family's horrific mistreatment of Blue Suede Heartstrings and his own failure to free the Alicorn from his wrongful conviction. To make up for this, he apologized to Blue Suede and offered him to join the Caearnarian Deer Pantheon, feeling that his own people would appreciate some lessons in humility. Blue would refuse to join the pantheon, but he nonetheless appreciated Naur's efforts to help him out and forgave Naur. It's noted that afterwards, Blue Suede became a welcome sight in Caearnar whenever he visits.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Deconstructed. Part of the reason why Naur became extremely bitter and resentful towards his family is their habit of criticizing/punishing him whenever he tried doing something good. Naur's attempts to be an example of what he thinks should be the model Alvslog Deer King got him scolded by his family because his methods went against their traditions. Naur's attempts to judge a wrongfully convicted Blue Suede Heartstrings fairly so he could clear the King of Music of false crimes angered Irminsul, who replaced him with the xenophobic King Aspen. Finally, Naur's attempts to warn his family of a future vision concerning a great disaster (the same vision that Blue Suede had) would be completely ignored, as his family became overconfident and complacent with their way of life. The end result was Naur snapping and confronting/attacking his father, before leaving home to form his own pantheon.
  • Playing with Fire: Naur is a Fire Elemental deity and manipulating fire (and being on fire) is almost second-nature to him. His family disapproved due to the destructive nature of fire to the forests that their mortal worshippers dwell in and protect with zeal, which caused him no end of grief and self-loathing until he decided he had enough of staying with them and following their ways.
  • Psychic Powers: He has pyromantic divination, telepathy, empathy, and Stealthy Teleportation.
  • Rage Breaking Point: For Naur, the final straw that broke the camel's back was seeing one of the most ancient, stalwart, and prosperous Alvslog Deer forest realm collapse in a catastrophic disaster, which either caused the Deer of that realm to live as destitute survivors, or flee to better pastures. Even worse is the fact that both Naur and Blue Suede Heartstrings foresaw the disaster and tried to avert it in their own ways, but both the Elternteil Deer Pantheon and Alvslog Deer Herds refused to listen to them because they were too overconfident and complacent with their way of life. This caused Naur to finally snap and confront Irminsul over it, which led to their vicious fight and ultimately the 'Third Splintering' when Irminsul tried to keep his son from leaving the pantheon.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: While stoic and stern like Irminsul, he's actually much nicer, tolerant, and reasonable than his father, who's seen as a Jerkass by everyone who's not the Alvslog Deer Herds. He tries to approach things calmly and rationally, and he is a firm yet merciful and unbiased judge who judges based on one's actions, not one's race like the Elternteil Deer Pantheon did. He allows his Caearnarian Deer subjects to practice other magic besides Earth/Nature magic, and implement new ideas and progress (provided it is done with ethics and good reason). But he doesn't shield his subjects from Evil entirely or let them become complacent, since it's one of the Alvslog Deer Herds' biggest failings. He also doesn't tolerate xenophobic, prideful, and/or hypocritical behavior, and has created harsh laws for those kinds of behavior. His Secret Test of Character for prospective Kings burn alive anyone who attempt to seize the throne for villainous reasons, though those Kings who fell short of his standards are not exempt, either.
    • Even before his departure from the Elternteil Deer Pantheon, Naur tried to be this for the Alvslog Deer Herds. He tried rescuing Blue Suede Heartstrings from a wrongful conviction, but was overruled by Irminsul, who replaced his son with the xenophobic King Aspen. He also tried warning his family of a future disaster, but was prevented from doing anything everyone had grown overconfident and complacent with their way of life. Thus, when the disaster actually happened, Naur helped the survivors, but it's noted that the disaster became the final straw that broke the camel's back. Fortunately for Naur, his good deeds would be rewarded when Blue Suede forgave him for what happened and visited Caearnar often, while the Alvslog Deer survivors Naur helped would side with him and become the Caearnarian Deer Herds.
    • He also allowed the Bogolenya Deer Pantheon, including his 'evil' brother Temnobog, to visit him in Caearnar. He made it clear to the Caearnarian Deer Pantheon that anyone who mistreats the Bogolenya deities will be punished.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech:
    • After reaching his Rage Breaking Point regarding the catastrophic fall of an Alvslog Deer realm that could've been prevented had his family let him do it, Naur would angrily confront Irminsul, whom he found most fault with, and verbally tear into him for being a vicariously abusive father and a complete failure of a High King who doomed his people and family with toxic mindsets. The only reason why Naur never thought to strip Irminsul of his divine sovereignty after all the horrible things he did is because he was that desperate to please his father at the time. It only leads to Irminsul trying to restrain Naur with his own divine power, especially after Naur expressed his desire to leave home and succeed where his father failed.
    • After Naur got into a vicious fight with Irminsul that leaves much of the divine realm scorched, Arvan intervenes and grants her son permission to leave, but warns him that he and his followers will no longer be welcome at home. Naur takes the chance without hesitation... but just before leaving, he would give two blistering speeches to his parents that addresses their flaws, one for each of them.
Phoenix King Naur: (to High Queen Arvan) Mother... you may not be as bad as Father, but I always thought you were spineless in his presence. If you had listened to your own judgement instead of following that hypocrite around, parroting his beliefs, you would have been the mother and Queen everyone deserved.

Phoenix King Naur: (to High King Irminsul) Father, I said it before, and I will say it now... you are a complete failure as a father and as a King. I should have recognized how rotten your heart was the moment Temnobog was born. The only thing stopping me from stripping you of your sovereignty now... is the prospect of getting to watch as your family abandons you and your realms crumble to mere splinters, while the outside world condemns you for what you really are.
  • The Resenter:
    • During his interviews with Codex Equus researcher/writer Jade Shell, he reveals that he both admired and envied the sea-faring Deer of lake/ocean-based Alvslog kingdoms, since they had the courage and freedom to leave home and travel whenever they wanted, unlike him.
"Wait, I thought all Alvslog Deer Herds lived in forests," Jade Shell interrupted the Phoenix King.

"You are correct," Naur replied. "However, there were forest kingdoms that lived by lakes and oceans, if I recall correctly. Those kingdoms mastered the art of seafaring, and sometimes traveled far beyond what my... parents’ society normally allowed. Even today, I consider those Deer to be very admirable. They are the bravest and most fortunate of my Alvslog kindred..."

Here, Naur’s voice and face slowly began to reveal bitterness and perhaps envy as well. "...For they could easily do what I in my youth could not."
    • He also resented his family for constantly criticizing and even outright sabotaging his efforts to be a genuinely Reasonable Authority Figure. After dealing with his family's toxic hypocrisy and stubborn refusal to implement new ideas and traditions, the last straw was when he warned his family about a future disaster, yet was prevented from doing anything about it until the disaster happened. This caused Naur to snap and leave home on incredibly bad terms with his family, especially his parents, who did nothing but abuse him for not fitting their standards as an ideal divine Deer sovereign.
  • Screw Destiny: Despite being a Seer himself (albeit one with pyromancy), Naur personally believes that the future itself is not set in stone, and relying too much on prophecy will lead to disaster. So while he lets Seers live among the Caearnarian Deer Herds, he encourages them to take action and choose for themselves. This stems from witnessing the Alvslog Deer Herds becoming overconfident and complacent in their Seers' ability to predict everything, and also their refusal to prepare for future disasters because of said overconfidence.
  • Seers: He's noted to be a skilled user of pyromancy, which involves predicting the future by reading flames. He discovered this ability while practicing his fire magic in secret when he was very young, allowing him to make up for not having natural precognitive abilities like his father and some of his siblings. According to Naur, the emergence of his pyromantic abilities caused one Elternteil Deer deity to believe that he's "not completely unsalvageable", though he doesn't remember if Irminsul said it or not. Princess Gold Lily of the Equestrian Pantheon is a fellow pyromancer, but she's less powerful in comparison due to him being an ancient, full-fledged god while she's a demi-goddess. Despite this, he believes the future itself is not set in stone, and has been encouraging the Caearnarian Deer Herds to stop relying on prophecy and choose for themselves.
  • Stealthy Teleportation: Naur's domain of Sovereignty gives him 'stealth teleportation' abilities that allow him to appear anywhere within a moment's notice, as long as he's within his own designated territories (which is Caearnar).
  • Take a Third Option: After he was crowned leader of the Caearnarian Deer Pantheon, Naur had to choose a title for himself. He didn't want to be called 'High King', fearing it'll turn him into a toxic person like Irminsul. But he didn't accept alternative existing titles, either, as it'll either make him look subservient to Irminsul or imply that he has an even bigger ego than him. Instead, Naur made his own title, 'Phoenix King', which reflects his decision to break away from the Elternteil Deer Pantheon and be 'reborn' as a co-sovereign of Caearnar.
  • Tears of Joy: He cries these when Golden Scepter officially adopts him as his son, having finally found a parental figure who genuinely loves and accepts him for who he is despite being a Fire god.
  • Top God: As indicated by his title, he's a co-leader of the Caearnarian Deer Pantheon, the other being his younger sister, Everqueen Naneth.
  • The Un-Favourite: Deconstructed. Because Naur was born a Fire god, he was treated as a major disappointment by Irminsul and Arvan, who thought his Fire domain would never benefit nature in any way. This initially motivated him to please his parents, yet his parents' extreme intolerance of 'dark' and 'evil' things made him fear speaking against them, lest he incur their wrath. Witnessing Temnobog being horribly abused for being born set off a chain of events that slowly made Naur become angry, bitter, and disillusioned towards his parents, especially after learning Temnobog was created by them and their selfish desires. After being criticized and sabotaged by his own family for eons, the last straw for Naur was when his family refused to listen to his warnings of a future disaster, and stubbornly prevented him from doing anything about it until the disaster happened. Naur snapped and got into a vicious confrontation/fight with his father, Irminsul, only for Arvan to intervene and grant her son permission to leave home, but warns Naur that he'll no longer be welcome at home. Naur took the chance without hesitation, and has never looked back since, but his abusive upbringing and experiences has left him with psychological issues that he's still struggling to overcome, even with Mentálne and Amour-De-Soi helping him. He also cries Tears of Joy upon being officially adopted by Golden Scepter as his son, having finally found someone who loves and accepts him for who he is despite being a Fire god.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Deconstructed. Because Naur was born a Fire deity (which nearly killed Arvan during childbirth), he was treated as The Un-Favourite by his family, with his parents being rather disappointed in his existence and discouraging use of his Fire domain. Naur tried desperately to earn his parents' approval, but their mistreatment of his siblings (especially Temnobog) and their deeply unpleasant traits in general slowly embittered Naur until finally, he snapped after his parents ignored his warnings of a disaster that eventually happened because of their complacent negligence. His confrontation and argument with his father escalated into a destructive fight when Irminsul tried to prevent Naur from leaving, but while Naur was permitted to leave by his mother Arvan, he essentially disowned them both as parents and showed no regret in leaving them behind. That being said, he does end up finding genuine love, acceptance, and praise in Emperor Golden Scepter, who not only has demi-divine sons who embody Fire (and is a wielder of holy fire himself), but also officially adopts Naur as his son.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Perks: Sometime after being adopted into the Terran Royal Family, he would be used as a living fireplace by Mercy and her adoptive cousins to toast marshmallows and make s'mores with. The whole situation left him rather bemused, though getting to try a s'more made up for it.
Phoenix King Naur: ...When you said you will let me help make s'mores, this is not what I had in mind.
Mercy: It's just for a little bit, Uncle Naur! I promise they'll be really good!
  • You're Not My Father: Because of his abusive upbringing and how they treated him for millennia, Naur has understandably disowned Irminsul and Arvan as his parents. Once he was presented with the opportunity to leave home and form his own pantheon, he takes it without hesitation or regret. He finds the most fault with Irminsul, who treated his own children vicariously to the point of defiling/murdering one of his younger brothers in-utero trying to make him 'perfect', and influenced his people to become just as bad as he is. And while Naur doesn't doesn't hate Arvan as much, he sees her as a 'spineless' person who enabled Irminsul's worst flaws by parroting his beliefs and not standing up to him more.

Everqueen Naneth, the Heart of Caearnar

Classification: Ethereal/Elemental

Portfolio: Water, Sovereignty, [WIP]

Rank: Divine (Tier IV/Greater)

Everqueen Naneth is a Caearnarian Deer goddess of Water, and is one of two co-leaders of the Caearnarian Deer Pantheon.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: She's a Caearnarian Deer goddess who embodies Water.
  • Expy: She's based on Isha, a benevolent Elven goddess who is revered by both the High Elves and Wood Elves as the "mother goddess" of Elvenkind.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Like her older brother, Naur, Naneth didn't like her family's unpleasant traits, and secretly rebelled whenever she could. The Alvslog Deer Realms she watched over became much kinder and more tolerant compared to their neighbors, which rankled her fanatical, xenophobic, and traditionalist relatives. She openly displayed this once she left home and became the Everqueen of the Caearnarian Deer Pantheon, serving as a direct benevolent influence for her mortal subjects.
  • Rebellious Princess: Before the Third Splintering happened, she was essentially a Princess by virtue of being one of Irminsul and Arvan's many daughters. But like Naur, she also hated the Elternteil Deer Pantheon's harmful and hypocritical teachings, and secretly rebelled against her family whenever she could. This led to the Alvslog Deer kingdoms she watched over becoming much kinder and more tolerant than their neighbors, something that rankled her more fanatical, traditionalist, and xenophobic relatives. She eventually graduated to 'Everqueen' after leaving home with Naur.
  • Top God: As indicated by her title, she's a co-leader of the Caearnarian Deer Pantheon, the other being her older brother, Phoenix King Naur.
