    Akira Shiroyanagi

Akira Shiroyanagi

Voiced by: Ayumu Murase (Japanese), Robbie Daymond (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akirashiroyanagi.jpg

  • Arm Cannon: The first ability that Akira makes use of.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Akira is able to determine the strengths and weaknesses of other players by observing their abilities in action.
  • Betty and Veronica: Ringo and Yuri are this to Akira's Archie respectively.
  • Guile Hero: Akira prides himself on his intellect and problem-solving skills and uses them to great effect.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: He participated in the previous program and was the previous winner but doesn't remember any of it.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: Akira's ability, "Sophist", allows him to have any power others believe him to already have.
  • Power Copying: Akira's power is an unorthodox and esoteric version of this, with the power being able to manifest whatever the enemy thinks his ability is. The catch is that it needs to be parties engaged in combat with him currently. Initially, it seems to be just copying the other participants' powers, but gradually it expands to abilities outside of this, including shapeshifting, etc- anything that the enemy thinks it, though people mostly think the cannon is the main one.
  • Secretly Selfish: Akira is perfectly polite and humble when needed, but is secretly enjoying the game and isn't above manipulating enemy and ally alike.

    Yūri Amagake

Yūri Amagake

Voiced by: Aimi Terakawa (Japanese), Laura Stahl (English)

  • But Not Too Foreign: Is half-Japanese.
  • Disappeared Dad: Her father left her and her mother a long time ago. In fact, she doesn't remember how he looks like.
  • Mrs. Robinson: Downplayed. She's only a year older than her love interest.
  • Super-Strength: This is Yuuri's superpower. More specifically, her power (called "Wrath of God") is "the ability to quintuple your physical abilities", and it turns out to not just be limited to strength.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Downplayed with Yuuri, who can quintuple her physical abilities with "Wrath of God." She's not a trained martial artist, but she is still skilled enough at controlling her own body's movements so that she doesn't hurt herself with this ability. When Akira tried copying it, he struggled to adjust to the quintupling effect.

    Mion

Mion

  • Arm Cannon: Her superpower, although this gets Subverted later on.
  • Big Bad: The game's organizer.
  • Cat Girl: She appears mostly human, but she has a cat's tail and cat ears that may or may not be part of her hat.
  • Sadist: Is this in spades. She is interested in seeing people slaughtering each other for her own amusement.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: Has shown interest in Akira, referring to him as her prince. Later chapters reveal that they know each other and that she is apparently acquainted with Akira's mother.

    Madoka Kirisaki

Madoka Kirisaki

Voiced by: Kazuya Nakai (Japanese), Billy Kametz (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/madokakirisaki.jpg

  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: Madoka's ability, "Blade Master", is to "turn a stick into a sword that can cut through anything". Later on, he discovers he can use his ability to cut through the effects of other abilities.
  • Butt-Monkey: Quite a lot of mishaps happen at his expense.
  • Expy: He shares a few similarities with Roronoa Zoro from One Piece, they both prefer not to cut women or people who are weak, and they both share the same voice actor. They also somewhat resemble each other.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Downplayed. While Madoka went through some sword training under his grandmother, he never completed that training and isn't able to use his cutting ability to its full potential. When he fights an actual Master Swordsman who has the same ability, he has to team up with Akira in order to stand a chance.

    Shin Kumagiri

Shin Kumagiri

Voiced by: Yuichi Nakamura (Japanese), Bill Butts (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shinkumagiri.jpg

  • Big Brother Worship: Respects his older brother who was a pro-wrestler who died in an accident. Interestingly, when activating his ability, it takes the form of armor that resembles the costume his brother wore.
  • Badasses Wear Bandanas: He's a massive 6'11 badass pro wrestler who wears a bandana.
  • The Big Guy: He's a massive 6' 11" and 330 lbs. If that isn't big, nothing is.
  • Gentle Giant: Despite being very big, he's actually a fairly nice person with a good sense of justice. During the third program, Shin saves Hareka Ninomiya from the Red Team, creating a bond with the girl. He then reunites with Akira and Yuri in the Green Team base and eventually joins them in the battle against the Red Team.
  • Heroic Build: He's a pro wrestler, so it's to be expected that he be quite top-heavy.
  • Killed Off for Real: He dies in the Calamity during the Fourth program helping Akira to defeat Leonhardt.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: His ability 'Vajrapani' is to allow himself to become invincible for 2 seconds.

    Rin Kashii

Rin Kashii

Voiced by: Toa Yukinari (Japanese), Kennady Ray (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rinkashii.jpg

  • Characterization Marches On: Initially, Rin is portrayed as entirely Faux Affably Evil- complete with a short-temper in juxtaposition with her dissonant mask of flirtatious indifference. Afterward, during the third battle, she's portrayed much more Affably Evil- with her temper being downplayed and her flirtatious yet dangerous side as an Aloof Ally being played up more.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: After faking her death, she changes her hairstyle and dyes it black to disguise herself from other participants and the police.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Rin gives off the air of a seductive, lazy person, but reveals herself to be a short-tempered, sadistic sociopath. In her later appearance, this is downplayed for more Affably Evil behavior, especially against her well more openly evil counterpart, Renka.
  • Story-Breaker Power: Rin's power, 'Iron Maiden' is to turn her body fluids into torture devices. With its versatility, it can turn her hands into weapons, generate shards for ranged attacks, traps on platforms. The limitations only seem to be her imagination.
  • Stripperiffic: Is introduced wearing nothing but skimpy night lingerie that shows off her cleavage and midriff and doesn't hide her figure. She wears a thermal coat in the fourth program but continues wearing lingerie underneath it.

    Ringo Tatara

Ringo Tatara

    Yang

Yang

Voiced by: Akari Kitou (Japanese), Erica Schroeder (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yang_9.jpg

  • Anime Chinese Girl: The fact that she wears a Qipao and has a name like "Yang" implies that she's supposed to be Chinese.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Her eyes are always closed. This is because her ability 'Millenium Eye' allows her to age anyone she looks at by a thousand years, necessitating that she keeps her eyes closed lest she ages everyone around her to dust and that it is taxing for her.
  • Odango Hair: Her hairstyle consists of a few hair buns.

    Masaya Kuroiwa

Masaya Kuroiwa

Voiced by: Koji Yusa (Japanese), Anthony Sardinha (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/masayakuroiwa.jpg

  • Arc Villain: Masaya and Hajime, seeing as a Big Bad Duumvirate for the third program.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: He wears glasses and is an Arc Villain.
  • Freudian Excuse: Both Masaya and Hajime grew up in an orphanage that enforced the idea that they owe the head of the establishment for taking them in and that they're inhuman. While the former reasoning is shown through their treatment of their organization, the latter is more nuanced- hinting that they consider themselves not human, so they can justify being as inhuman as possible to anyone.
  • Story-Breaker Power: Masaya's ability, Loan Shark, is being able to enslave anyone that owes him something to repay back, giving them a collar that forces them to obey him. It initially seems limited, but the specifics for what is owed is varied, and it can also restrict his opponents with generated chains- with the implied hint that the enslavement can vary to Masaya's own imagination.

    Hajime Oogami

Hajime Oogami

Voiced by: Hiroki Yasumoto (Japanese), Jalen K. Cassell (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hajimeoogami.jpg

  • Arc Villain: Masaya and Hajime, seeing as a Big Bad Duumvirate for the third program.
  • Blood Knight: The leader of the Red Team, thrives in battle and being able to unleash violence onto his enemies.
  • Dragon-in-Chief: Played With. Initially, it's assumed that Hajime, while the leader of the Red Team, is merely the muscle to Masaya- the strategist of the two, however, in reality, they're more of a Big Bad Duumvirate with Hajime managing to prove significantly more dangerous- outlasting Masaya. It helps that he was already a hulking juggernaut before getting his physical quintupling ability.
