"Bend over, let me see you shake your tail feather!"
The Five Du-Tones, "Shake a Tail Feather"

This is the trope where a character moves their buttocks around, which can be done in a few variants — sexual arousal, cockiness, or celebration.

  • Sexual arousal: A character does this to sexually arouse another character. When a male character invokes this trope for this particular reason, it's seen as being either jarring or humorous, unless he's Mr. Fanservice (and sometimes even then). Female examples of this are generally played as straightforward Ms Fan Service.
  • Cockiness: A character does this as a way of being, well, cheeky to another character, particularly when they're annoying or taunting them. This is commonly done by unruly and/or childish characters, showing that because insulting people isn't enough, then moving the buttocks in front of the character will do the job.
  • Celebration: A character does this as a part of celebrating their success or achievements, although this can overlap with the second variant if winning means the character is arrogant enough to rub it in on other competitors.

A Sultry Belly Dancer will often incorporate this trope in their dance, shaking their buttocks along with their belly and hips. Taking this trope too far would also overlap with Mooning. Related to Supermodel Strut and possibly also Three Minutes of Writhing. May also overlap with Joke of the Butt, when Played for Laughs rather than for Fanservice.

Natsu also participates in this when he meets the gang in prison and they have a group huddle.
  • In a rare example of this trope being used for Female Gaze, Satoshi Isshiki from Food Wars! often does a routine where he dons a Naked Apron and shakes his bare butt in front of his dorm mates. What's even funnier is that none of them find this strange at all—In fact, they all cheer him on as he does so, even the male ones!

    • When John first sees comely new widow Mrs. Bessinger (who has just moved in next door), he daydreams a Fantasy Sequence where she dances seductively and then opens her long coat, the better to show off her tight and skimpy red dress while accompanied by classic strip-tease music. This also carries over into Super Smash Bros. where it is one of his taunts.

  • This is one of Anna Williams' taunts from Tekken towards an enemy. Not to mention, this also goes along with her butt attack in Tekken 6.
