Recap / Phineas And Ferb Comet Kermillian

Go To

Phineas and Ferb decide to build an observatory in honor of Comet Kermillian's appearance; Candace goes on a picnic with Jeremy only to have his little sister get in her way; and Linda and Lawrence try to buy steaks for an evening cookout...but Dr. Doofenshmirtz has bought up all the steaks in Danville.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Dance Craze: Candace kicking and screaming around because of the squirrels in her pants is mistaken by a group of street performers for a dance number, which they join along to.
  • Beef Bandage: Doofenshmirtz invents a pair of glasses called Steak Specs, which hold a piece of steak to both of the user's eyes in case they get struck with a black eye.
  • Hair Reboot: While testing the laser, Ferb accidentally burns off one of the strands in Phineas' hair, who comments, "new hairdo, check it out." However, just a few shots later, the strand is fully grown again.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Suzy spends the entire episode trying to sabotage Candace's date with Jeremy. At the end of the episode, as she tries to ruin the moment yet again with the croquet mallet and the ball, a huge pile of steaks lands on top of her.
  • Male Gaze: The camera shows the audience a nice shot of Candace’s butt right after Suzy knocks the acorn into her jeans.
  • The Password Is Always "Swordfish": Doof claims Agent P will never guess the password to his computer. Turns out, it's "Doofalicious".
  • Pie in the Face: Suzy whacks a croquet ball at the pie Candace is holding, flinging it directly into her face.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The episode gets its name from "Karma Chameleon" by Culture Club.
  • Reactive Continuous Scream: Between Candace and the squirrel that Suzy gives to her.
  • Shout-Out: After Candace goes through hell with all the torture that Suzy put her through, she says to Jeremy, "The horror... the horror!"
  • Soda Can Shakeup: Jeremy offers to get Candace a soda, but Suzy gets her one instead. When Candace opens it, it sprays in her face, having obviously been shaken up by Suzy as a form of torment.
  • Squirrels in My Pants: The Trope Namer; this is one of the torments inflicted on Candace by Li'l Suzy.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: When Lawrence stumbles upon the tail-end of one of Major Monogram's briefings with Perry the Platypus, Monogram tries to pass it off as a telethon to find a cure for antidisestablishmentarianism. After Monogram ends the broadcast by claiming they've found a cure, Lawrence tells his wife the news, and Linda says "Great! I can finally take off this puce ribbon."
  • The Television Talks Back: Quite literally, since Monogram is inside the television while he's interacting with Lawrence. Oddly enough, Lawrence doesn't question this.
  • This Is No Time to Panic: When the observatory threatens to collapse thanks to Doof's death ray, Phineas says this to the audience. Then a piece of the roof nearly lands on him, and he says "Okay, now you can panic."
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: After being a Butt-Monkey for the entire episode, Candace finally gets to have a nice moment with Jeremy watching the comet at the end.
  • The Unpronouncable: Doof has a Steak Containment Unit, or S.C.U. for short, but he's not sure whether to pronounce it as "SKUH" or "SKOO".
  • Verbal Backspace:
Isabella: You had me at "our grandchildren"...
    Phineas: ...What?
Isabella: STEAKS! You– you had me at "steaks”!
    • Also:
      Jeremy: What happened to [Candace]?
Suzy: I dunno, but these violent mood swings are probably a sign of deeper emotional imbalance.
      Jeremy: What?
      Suzy: Hee hee, bubble!
  • Visual Pun: After one of the hip-hop dancers catches a falling steak, he remarks "We just keep getting served."
  • Wish Upon a Shooting Star: According to Linda, it's believed that if you wish on a comet, your wish will come true. Later, when Lawrence asks her to make a wish as the comet passes by, she says nonchalantly, "I wish we had steaks". Right on cue, the steaks from Doof's lab come raining down from the sky.
Linda: I'll be honest. I didn't think that would work.
  • Word Salad Lyrics: Many of the lines in "SIMP (Squirrels in My Pants)" were written by just looking in a rhyming dictionary and looking at all the words that rhyme with "pants".
