Innocent "baby blues" or clear, pure and shining, these eyes are blue to symbolize youth, naïveté, inexperience, and purity of soul. In extreme cases, may indicate Blue Is Calm and Heavenly Blue. This may derive from the fact that many babies (and not just human babies; non-human examples include cats, dogs, horses and crows) are born with blue eyes, due to them having no melanin in them, and later develop color from exposure to sunlight, symbolically "losing their innocence". Either way, a popular choice for heroes, heroines and younger characters. In older works, gray eyes were used for this instead. Common with Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold (or with Rose-Haired Sweetie, if the cast tends towards technicolor hair).

    Asian Animation 
  • Mechamato: Payapi has large blue eyes and acts as a friendly firefighting robot. It's entirely a ruse however.
  • Cham Cham Chakraborty of Simple Samosa has the blue eyes, but not the innocent attitude, what with him being a self-centered rival to Samosa. He tries to beat Samosa in sports events simply because he hates him, and in one episode he comes alarmingly close to getting him killed as part of being falsely accused of a crime; besides that, he's also proven to be a bad choice for mayor of Chatpata Nagar with his acting like a king and taxing everyone.

    Comic Books 
  • This is typically not seen due to the art-style, but when Archie and Betty of Archie Comics are shown with an eye color, they're usually blue-eyed. Archie is (normally) a friendly, heroic "All American" boy.
  • Captain America: Captain America has pure blue eyes, along with Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold. Very befitting for one of the purest people in the Marvel Universe and the best known Patriot Hero.
  • Ben Grimm of the Fantastic Four retains blue eyes after his transformation into The Thing. While Ben is rough around the edges (particularly thanks to the Human Torch), he has a Gentle Giant core and is nicknamed "The Ever-Lovin' Blue-Eyed Thing".
  • The Flash. The second Flash, Barry Allen, has blue eyes, is one of the nicest people in the DCU, and is a poster boy for Nice Guy.
  • The first three Robins (Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, and Tim Drake) start out with innocent baby blues but lose them due to their life experiences. Jason and Tim trade them in for almost constant Icy Blue Eyes with an added dose of Occult Blue Eyes for Jay.
  • Exploited by the assassin Delia "Blue-Eyes" from Sin City. She projects an image of helpless innocence as a Damsel in Distress to lure her targets into complacency. The image is helped by her huge and striking blue eyes. The fact that she's an assassin working for the Wallenquist crime syndicate shows she's anything but innocent. They become Icy Blue Eyes when she drops the act and goes for the kill. Her initiation was to murder her first love who still had feelings for her. She passed with flying colors. She doesn't fare as well against Wallace who almost immediately sees through her act.
  • Superman:
    • Superman has blue eyes. In Superman: Birthright, Martha Kent made him wear his iconic glasses to hide them. She remarks that she's never seen eyes quite like his, eyes so brilliantly blue that looking into them is like looking into the sky. Quite fitting for the superhero that best fits the role of The Hero in the DC Universe.
    • Jimmy Olsen, originally written as a semi-naïve Nice Guy, has blue eyes (though they're not very obvious). While the naivete has fallen by the wayside, Jimmy still maintains the kindness and general good nature one would expect from Superman's Muggle Best Friend.
    • Supergirl has blue eyes. And she's -originally or after Character Development- a nice, kind and compassionate young woman. Her original, Pre-Crisis self was pretty innocent, optimistic and dangerously naïve when she arrived on Earth.

    Fan Works 
  • Advice and Trust: Shinji has "deep blue eyes" and he is pretty innocent and naïve (at the beginning).
  • The Child of Love: Shinji’s blue eyes are more limpid, more childlike. When Asuka sees what looks like a younger image of her self and notices she has Shinji’s blue eyes, she starts to realize it is their daughter Teri.
  • In Children of an Elder God, Shinji has clear blue eyes and he was a traumatized but innocent boy. He even tried to believe that his father was a decent person, despite Gendo abandoning him.
  • A Crown of Stars has Shinji. He has crystal blue eyes, and he used to be an innocent, nice boy before the War, the end of the world and living in the wastelands.
  • Evangelion 303: Shinji has very clear, bright blue eyes. He is also a shy, good-natured, well-meaning young man.
  • Ghosts of Evangelion:
    • Shinji has clear blue eyes, and he was an innocent, shy kid before the War.
    • Baby Ryuko's eyes are a deep blue, and her gaze was completely innocent.
      Asuka looked at her daughter and found that, for a moment, she couldn't even breathe. "She's beautiful," she whispered. Her eyes were a deep blue, like her father's, and she had a shock of light brown hair. She looked curiously at this strange new person, the perfect picture of innocence.
  • HERZ: Shinji’s eyes are a limpid, light blue. He is also a shy, soft-spoken, easily embarrassed person, even in his late twenties.
  • Downplayed in Karma in Retrograde. Touya has vibrant blue eyes that reflect his innocence and how he's initially unaware of all the crimes he committed as Dabi. At the same time, Dabi still has the same eyes and his mother can't even bear to look at him because of how much his eyes remind her of Endeavor.
  • In Last Child of Krypton Shinji has blue eyes… and he’s the nicest and less mean-spirited person that you’ll ever meet:
    His hair was an unruly mop of brown and his eyes a dark blue, hidden behind a pair of glasses he didn't need.
  • In Neon Genesis Evangelion: Genocide, Shinji's dark blue eyes are remark upon, when Hikari explains to him why the majority of the girls in the class has taken a liking to him.
    It was because of his eyes, she had said, because of how the pale blue always made him look sad and in turn made the girls want to console him, and because they considered him cute.
  • Prim from The Night Unfurls is one of the youngest in Celestine's court, characterised as The Cutie, Rose-Haired Sweetie and Princess Classic, all of which are character tropes related to youth, optimism and innocent sweetness. The remastered version switches her eye colour from purple to bright blue to reinforce this impression.
  • Once More with Feeling: Shinji has blue eyes and he used to be innocent and gullible... before going through the War in the original timeline.
  • Superwomen of Eva 2: Lone Heir of Krypton: Shinji is a blue-eyed, innocent, naïve boy who didn't even suspect his roommate and Love Interest Asuka was Supergirl until he saw it with his own eyes.
    "Maybe, maybe not," he said, his dark blue eyes meeting her brown ones.
  • Subverted with Shinji in Thousand Shinji. He has light-blue eyes, and he tries to look innocent and gullible if it benefits him... however, he's anything but that.
  • The Ultimate Evil: One of the main heroic characters, Valerie Payne, has crystal blue eyes that spark like clear water. This is significant because Lo Mei, Lo Pei's daughter and Shendu's unwilling bride, had those eyes as well. This is the first hint that makes Shendu realize that Valerie is Lo Pei's descendant. He actually mistakes for a moment Valerie with Mei because of her eyes, and the Living Statue of Lo Pei does the same.
  • The Vow: Lady Lianne, a noble swan and Lord Shen's love interest, has oceanic blue eyes that reflect her gentle and pacifistic nature. Her mother, the also gentle Lady Amelia, has blue eyes similar to those of her daughter. Shen and Lianne's son Zian inherits her mother's eyes along with her gentle and peaceful nature.

    Films — Animation 
  • Bambi: Flower and Faline each have blue eyes, which help to accentuate their respective personalities: Flower as an innocent Shrinking Violet, and Faline as a friendly Genki Girl.
  • Merida from Brave, although her blue eyes are more along the "youthful" and "inexperienced" categories than really "innocent".
  • Lightning McQueen from Cars has light blue eyes with a slight hint of deep turquoise on the inner rim, which represents his love for racing and hints at the fact he learns that friendship and leadership are much more important in life.
  • In Frozen, sisters Elsa and Anna both have blue eyes, obviously a trait passed down from their parents. Anna's eyes are of the innocent kind, while Elsa has Icy Blue Eyes.
  • Joy of Inside Out fame has big, bright blue eyes that represent her unending cheerfulness and desire to keep Riley happy.
  • Subverted in The Iron Giant, where Kent Mansley's big blue eyes stand out in a cast where everyone else has dark eyes (or even just beady black eyes with no pupils), but he's the film's only real villain, and simply an awful person in every regard.
  • Dopey, the most childish of the seven dwarves, from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has large blue eyes.
  • In Turning Red, Stacy has blue eyes to go with her Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold and only has good intentions toward Mei when she finds her in the bathroom in her giant red panda form.
  • Robyn Goodfellowe from Wolfwalkers has large blue eyes, fitting with her spirited but naive pesonality. She still has them in her wolf form.

    Films — Live-Action 
  • 28 Days Later: Jim's (Cillian Murphy) wide-open baby blues leave him looking innocent and rather bewildered (right up until the... rescue scene).
  • Atonement: Robbie Turner has an impressive pair of big blue eyes. It's consistent with the director's interpretation of the character being Too Good for This Sinful Earth.
  • From Back to the Future, Marty McFly has big, expressive blue eyes — which add a nice emphasis to his Fish out of Temporal Water status with him being shocked or confused many times.
  • Come to Daddy: Norval has Elijah Wood's naturally large, blue eyes. A police officer believes that Norval is telling the truth because he doesn't have "raisin eyes" (ie, small and dark eyes). When the coroner notes that Norval has "kind eyes," Norval relates what the police officer said about his eyes earlier.
  • Gabriel (2007) is about the angel Gabriel descending into purgatory to help his fellow Fallen Angels. In contrast to them, who have become jaded by their time down there, he's a Wide-Eyed Idealist with bright blue eyes.
  • In the film version of Harry Potter, Harry has blue eyes, connected to heroic symbolism. In the books, his eyes are green. note 
  • In the Mormon movie Joseph Smith The Prophet Of Restoration, Smith himself is portrayed with bright greenish-blue eyes to emphasize his pure heartedness and virtue.
  • The Lord of the Rings: The film version of Frodo Baggins has enormous blue eyes, which suggest the general innocence and good-heartedness of hobbits (although Frodo doesn't actually have blue eyes in the book). They also contrast against the gigantic fireball that is the Eye of Sauron. Crosses over into Icy Blue Eyes at times, especially when the side effects of carrying the One Ring are shown.
  • Nux from Mad Max: Fury Road has blue eyes, highlighting the fact that while he's a Blood Knight Death Seeker, he's really just a kid and a victim of Immortan Joe's brainwashing. They get emphasized more and more as he develops, and the best shot of them comes at the climax when he decides to sacrifice himself for the Wives.
  • Mission to Mars: According to the hologram the characters find inside the Face on Mars, the Martians, being benevolent creators of all life on Earth, looked like tall, orange-skinned Angelic Aliens with big blue eyes, from which the holographic Martian sheds a Single Tear before showing the humans the tragic history of Mars.
  • Star Wars:
    • Luke Skywalker has large, light blue eyes that express his kindheartedness, being The Hero and a Wide-Eyed Idealist, and (to start off with) his naivety. They can easily turn icy if the situation calls for it, however.
    • In Return of the Jedi, Anakin Skywalker's eyes are blue again after his son Luke saves him from the Dark Side.
  • Sunshine: Another Cillian Murphy film. He's a good guy (even hero) in this movie and it features lots of close-ups of his bright blue eyes... juxtaposed to images of the Sun (which is the Great Evil that has to be set right in the movie). The director and photographer of the movie said in the commentary they deliberately put images of Murphy's blue eyes next to that of the yellow/orange Sun for contrast; and not so coincidentally, the spaceship the movie takes place on, features mainly blue and green tones to remind of planet Earth, its home-base, and Murphy's/Capa's eyes match that comforting tone.
  • Michelangelo's eyes in the 2007 CGI TMNT movie are blue, while the other Turtles have brown eyes. This gives Mikey a more innocent look, befitting his personality.
  • Trance: Subverted with Simon Newton. His youthful facial features (which include his sparkling blue irises) tend to be highlighted, and he initially appears to be the most sympathetic character in the film, but it's later revealed that Simon is an abusive, violent boyfriend and a murderer.
  • Violet & Daisy: Daisy and Violet both have them. It aids their innocent, girlish personas.
  • Wendy: Wendy has striking pale blue eyes here which accentuate her innocence and youth.
  • Roger Rabbit from Who Framed Roger Rabbit has bluish watery eyes of sound sanity. To contrast with Judge Doom's red embers of madness.
  • X-Men Film Series:
    • X-Men: First Class: Charles Xavier's bright blue irises represent his goodness and naïveté. After the events of the film, he is still as idealistic, but has been rather blind-sided by reality and is much more cautious and reserved.
    • X-Men: Apocalypse: Since this movie partly recycles Charles' arc from First Class, his radiant blue eyes are once more a symbol of him being too optimistic for his own good.

    Literature 
  • There are several blue-eyed characters in Baccano! that are harmless and (relatively) innocent.
    • Eve Genoard, an unknowing Mafia Princess (she thinks the Genoard fortune comes from textiles) who is The Ingenue heiress, soft-spoken, steel-spined. She believes the very best in people, including her asshole brother Dallas. Later goes right out the window when she finds out who murdered her father and brother, and tries to blow his head off.
    • Isaac, despite being a fully grown man, still fits due to being a combination of The Ditz, All-Loving Hero, and Cloudcuckoolander - while a petty criminal, his and Miria's crimes are very well-intentioned, even if they don't fully grasp the extent of their intentions.
  • Jerin's eyes in A Brother's Price are blue. He's very innocent, and prone to blushing. All boys in his family are very sheltered, which makes them all (the blue eyes are a family trait) this trope. Subverted with Keifer Porter, who exploited his appearance to make himself seem innocent, but was anything but.
  • In John C. Wright's Fugitives of Chaos from Chronicles of Chaos, Mortimer has innocent blue eyes as well as the mind of a 5-year old.
  • Subverted in Companions of the Night. Ethan seems to have these at first, but then Kerry finds out that he’s all but innocent.
  • In the second book in the Darkest Powers trilogy, Tori mocks Chloe for having blue eyes and golden hair, saying she is “just like [Tori's] sister” - essentially useless and always in need of saving". Chloe, though angry about Tori’s insults, has to admit that this is kind of true since Derek has to come running to her rescue quite a few times in all three books. Liam also comments on her eyes, saying they make her look cute and scared and thus very desirable, much to the anger of Derek.
  • In Darkness Visible, William and Amelia Marsh have blue-green eyes. In Amelia's case, they show innocence. William starts out as innocent but is definitely veering towards piercing and cynical by the end of the book.
  • Jake has blue eyes which, at the beginning of The Dark Tower series, fit into the innocent category, but as the story goes on, they're described as being eerily similar to Roland's icy eyes.
  • A couple of these in the Deryni works:
    • Sean Lord Derry, Morgan's aide-de-camp, is human, but Morgan introduces him to the use of magic as part of his reconnaissance missions. When Morgan teaches him Mind Speech, Derry's "blue eyes were wide, but trusting."
    • When confronted by a guardsman in Deryni Rising, Duncan McLain staged dropping his tabernacle key and "turned innocent blue eyes on the man". Duncan is also a Deryni (and as such, forbidden to be a priest), so cultivating this innocent look is important to his protective arsenal.
  • Devils & Thieves: Darek, Jemmie's kind-hearted friend, is shown as one of the more innocent and friendly characters in the story, with blue eyes to match. This is subverted; Darek turns out to be the villain, and an expert manipulator, who only seemed like a nice guy.
  • Shannon and Ginevra in Doctrine of Labyrinths are both extremely sheltered and naïve and have wide blue eyes.
  • Dragon Bones has a whole family who all have blue-violet eyes except for Ward. However, his younger sister and brother, whom he is very protective towards, have the typical blue eyes. There is also Oreg, who is a kind of ghost, and also descended from that family. He is a powerful mage and could seem dangerous, but Ward notes that, in one situation, he looks like a frightened child, to which the Innocent Blue Eyes contribute.
  • Mikado from Durarara!! is a subverted bait-and-switch of this trope. Early in the series, the audience thinks he's your average Naïve Newcomer, trusting and uncorrupted by Ikebukuro city, but later, we find out he's actually been the cold and calculating chessmaster and leader of the dollars this whole time, has been Obfuscating Stupidity, and is the type of person you don't want to cross. On one occasion, he actually shivved a guy with a pen. It's at this point that you realize they were actually Icy Blue Eyes all along.
  • In Earth's Children, Ayla has wide, blue-grey eyes and is kind and pure-hearted. However, her having grey mixed in also hints at her toughness and perceived otherworldliness.
  • In Endo and Kobayashi Live! The Latest on Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte, Fiene has a pair of sky-blue eyes that complements well with her Naïve Newcomer nature. Those comes from her father August Riefenstahl.
  • Grandpa Gray: Gray's bright blue eyes are stated to twinkle when he laughs.
  • The Heroes of Olympus features Jason Grace, who has sky blue eyes. He is neither an idiot nor inexperienced, but is definitely young, has a pure heart, and fits the archetype of "too good to be true"; Reyna once refers to him as the "All-American boy". The Heavenly Blue part is emphasized as his father is Jupiter and he himself wields Shock and Awe and Blow You Away powers.
  • Downplayed with William Bush in Horatio Hornblower. His blue eyes are sometimes described as frank and honest, and Bush has an honest and generous character that contrasts with Hornblower's guile (and overthinking and self-doubt). Hornblower himself thinks of Bush's blue eyes as incongruous, since Bush is otherwise a hardbitten sailor.
  • The Hunger Games:
    • Peeta Mellark has blue eyes and he is often described as kind and the only decent person to win the Games. As thought by Katniss in Catching Fire "I look up into those blue eyes that no amount of dramatic makeup can turn truly deadly."
    • Prim is a 12-year-old warm and kind Wide-Eyed Idealist who has the unfortunate luck to be born in the worst slum of the worst district of a totalitarian nation in a world of utter calamity and despair. The extremely jaded Katniss mentions that Prim is "the only person I'm certain I love". And that's exactly why that she's Too Good for This Sinful Earth.
  • Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit has Prince Chagum, who carries the egg of a benevolent water spirit. He also has a noble, innocent personality typical of blue eyes.
  • Katarina in My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! thinks she has harsh blue eyes, but when illustrated they look very friendly and charming. Her innocent nature is also something to behold as she completely fails to notice her fiancee making passes at her or that she has a large bisexual harem openly competing in front of her.
  • In Proven Guilty, Harry remarks that Molly has these kind of eyes before soulgazing her. The colour highlights her vulnerability and fear. This is contrasted with a precognitive vision Harry has, in which Molly has become a warlock. In that future, her eyes have gone dead black..
  • Psmith: Merits a passing mention in Mike and Psmith, the second half of P. G. Wodehouse's boarding school novel Mike: "As the blue-eyed hero he [Mike] would have been a rank failure."
  • Subverted with Ferahgo and his son Klitch in Redwall; their blue eyes are only meant to make them seem innocent and friendly, when in reality they're both ruthless killers. They both tend to exploit this trope to hide their true colors.
  • In Shadow of the Conqueror, Daylen finds Sharra's blue eyes to be particularly attractive, but the innocent quality of them convinces him not to accept her offer of Rescue Sex, as he sees it as effectively taking advantage of a child. Lyrah also had the innocent variety of blue eyes when she was younger, though they've long since hardened.
  • A Song of Ice and Fire:
    • Sansa's eyes are said to be particularly vibrant and lovely, arguably an indication of her innocence and goodness (at least to start with). It's summed up best in this scene...
      Petyr studied her eyes, as if seeing them for the first time. "You have your mother’s eyes. Honest eyes, and innocent. Blue as a sunlit sea. When you are a little older, many a man will drown in those eyes."
    • Sansa's brothers Robb and Bran also inherited their mother's eyes, and are also initially optimistic and innocent.
    • Brienne of Tarth is a very large, very strong, very ugly woman. Her one beauty is her innocent, sky-blue eyes.
    • Exploited by Tyene Sand along with Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold. She's beautiful, sweet, and pious-looking, and you'll believe that right until you realize that she's poisoned you.
  • Amati from Spice and Wolf has the "baby blues" variant, emphasizing his youth. He even has golden hair.
  • Star Wars: Luke and Ben Skywalker both have blue eyes that can swing from innocent to icy at fancy's whim, and often quite suddenly, to the point where it scares Ben (to a small extent, anyway).
  • Talma Gordon: Talma has blue eyes and is described in ways evoking innocence — at the garden party, she is merry, wears white, and is compared to a flower.
  • Subverted in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Helen takes note of Huntingdon's blue eyes early on, but any symbolic innocence she reads in the color is a lie when he's revealed to be a drunk, a womanizer, and abusive.
  • These Broken Stars: Lilac's eyes are blue, just like her father's. On him, they're more like Icy Blue Eyes.
  • In Thieves Like Us, Jonas is repeatedly noted to have "undamned" blue eyes. Those eyes and his general "choir boy" appearance just highlight how he's the Naïve Newcomer and most moral person in a group of thieves and con artists.
  • The Three Musketeers: The musketeer Athos has "azure" eyes, presumably as a symbol of his pureness.
  • Tomcat Blue Eyes' Diaries: Blue Eyes was named for his beautiful blue eyes. The story starts when he's just a small kitten that starts discovering the world, and he's inexperienced and not always very sharp in understanding. He's very sweet to his "two-legged creature" and friendly and kind-hearted to other cats, especially to homeless cat Green Eyes or too smart tom-cat White Whiskers Rusty, who both become his mentors.
  • Trueman Bradley, a kind, naive Country Mouse with Asperger's Syndrome, has big blue eyes.
  • Rand Al'Thor in The Wheel of Time is first described to have wide, innocent blue eyes. As the books progress, they change into the piercing, ice cold type. They switch between gray and blue as well.

    Live-Action TV 
  • Ash vs. Evil Dead: Several scenes that emphasize Heather's status as a heavily traumatized Innocent Bystander prominently display her blue eyes.
  • Battlestar Galactica (2003): Lee Adama in the 2000s show...though his are more of the "heroic and idealistic" variety. He was played by Jamie Bamber, possessor of said blue eyes.
  • The Big Bang Theory: Sheldon Cooper has large, expressive blue eyes. They may or may not be a physical manifestation of how clueless he is when it comes to social interaction, despite his intellectual brilliance.
  • Breaking Bad: Jesse Pinkman would definitely qualify as this, with his large, expressive, and puppy-like blue eyes. Given his woobie characteristics they're often front and center too.
  • Cheers: Diane Chambers, the Wide-Eyed Idealist who, during Shelley Long's time on the show, was The Heart of the gang, has wide and soft greyish-blue eyes.
  • Cranford: Miss Matty Jenkyns has an enormous, shining pair of bright blue eyes. Given that Miss Matty is sweet, kind, innocent, and The Heart of the show — not to mention a woobie of epic proportions — they're very appropriate.
  • Doctor Who:
    • The Fourth Doctor has very unusual huge, constantly bulging blue eyes that suit his overgrown-kid personality and are often compared to the eyes of a baby in the novelisations. However, due to how googly and manic they are, when the Doctor's in one of his more alien moods and the lighting hits them just right they can become the Creepiest Blue Eyes ever.
    • The Eighth Doctor has much less ridiculous-looking large, innocent blue eyes, reflecting how much he is loving his fresh start, his new body and his life doing good things for people in general after being the very old and very morally-alien Seventh Doctor for several centuries. This makes it incredibly sad in "Night of the Doctor" when his eternal optimism makes him believe the best of a person who hates him, causing him to end up killing both of them in his attempts to save her, with his utterly defeated, dying self choosing to regenerate into a warrior.
  • In Dracula (2020), the colour of the sweet, kind-hearted Jonathan's blue eyes is frequently emphasized, especially by Mina. The fact that his eyes are no longer blue is a sign that Dracula has possessed him.
  • Game of Thrones: Sansa is a textbook example at the start of the series, as a soppy girl with a very naïve view of the world, and, naturally, sporting a pair of wide blue eyes. As Sansa's innocence has been slowly destroyed by circumstance with she and her family suffering one cruelty and betrayal after another, during Season 4 her gaze appropriately hardened in kind into Icy Blue Eyes.
  • Glee: Chris Colfer is sometimes blue-eyed, sometimes green, sometimes grey, depending on the lighting. Just look at his eyes when he's with his father in any scene, they're likely to be of the wide and innocent type. Judging by his intentional lash-fluttering when Finn tells Puck to stop pushing Kurt into lockers, the character appears to be aware of this trope.
  • Horatio Hornblower: Archie Kennedy of this mini-series has the "innocent and sweet" variety. Quite appropriate for a broken Cutie and a character who is the heart and soul of the series.
  • JAG: The Tall, Dark, and Handsome Hero Harmon Rabb, Jr. has a heroic variety of Innocent Blue Eyes.
  • Law & Order: UK: DS Matt Devlin (also played by Jamie Bamber) also has the "heroic" type of blue eyes. He's a Fair Cop who looks like an angel but can be pretty tough, and he has successfully lead many suspects to underestimate him. They're such an important character trait that they're the last thing we see of him in his final episode.
  • LazyTown: Sportacus has very blue eyes, and a very optimistic and almost childlike enthusiasm for being active.
  • Legion: When David Haller is in an especially good mood, his baby blues reflect his endearing boyishness, and they mainly appear when he's around his girlfriend Sydney Barrett or his sister Amy. They're also prominent during his pre-schizophrenic youth.
  • The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: As a Harfoot, Nori is not privy to the goings on outside of her tribe and she has wide, bright blue eyes.
  • Motherland: Fort Salem: Scylla has very striking, expressive blue eyes, making her look more naive and innocent than she really is. This probably helped in her infiltration work.
  • Queen Anne in The Musketeers has them and is probably the gentlest and most idealistic character.
  • Revolution: Charlie Matheson sports a pair of blue eyes representing her youth, naivete, inexperience, and purity of soul. Emma in "Home" has "purity of soul" blue eyes, with a little green mixed into them.
  • Jess in New Girl is known for her "giant" blue eyes. She fits the trope perfectly, as she always anticipates the good in people, loves caring for others and has a playful naivety about the dangers of the world around her.
  • Spartacus: Blood and Sand: Special attention is drawn to Spartacus's blue eyes that fill up with Manly Tears in an early scene where he talks of his love for his recently kidnapped wife Sura.
  • Stargate SG-1: Majorly Awesome Samantha Carter has a vibrant pair of baby blues. They fit her personality quite well.
  • Star Trek: The Original Series: Doctor McCoy has DeForest Kelley's bright, shining baby blues. He's probably the kindest, most compassionate character of the entire Trek franchise.
  • Tin Man: DG has big blue eyes of the "innocent" type, fittingly as the innocent young woman of the group. In a Darker and Edgier retelling of The Wizard of Oz, where her companions are given tragic backstories and characterizations, she is relatively the same as Dorothy; the All-Loving Hero who unites people to accomplish good for her.
  • Warehouse 13: Steve Jinks, who is introduced to the show in season 3, is the only main character with blue eyes. He fits both the naiveté and purity of heart aspects of the trope, as he is initially a Naïve Newcomer, as well as a dorkily cute Nice Guy. Adding to the symbolism, his Living Lie Detector ability relies on eye contact.
  • White Collar: Matt Bomer's ability to invoke this with his absolutely stunning baby blues is part of the reason he was so convincing as infamous conman Neal Caffrey (also, they probably had a little to do with how Caffrey became so Famed In-Story in the first place.) Also, despite being conman, Neal is, against all expectations, pretty firmly a Nice Guy, so it works on two levels.
  • The White Queen: In the early episodes, the young Anne Neville's baby blue irises mirror her wide-eyed naïvety.

    Music 
  • The Velvet Underground's "Pale Blue Eyes" from The Velvet Underground is a subversion. The mellow and soothing music leads one to think that this trope is in play, and from the lyrics you can tell that the narrator wants to believe this—but he can't, because the relationship can't last, because she's cheating on her husband with him.
  • Elton John's "Blue Eyes" is a song about a person referred to as "baby" who has such a pair of blue eyes, compared to a deep blue sea and a clear blue day.
    "Blue eyes laughing in the sun/Laughing in the rain/Baby's got blue eyes/And I am home again"
  • Plumb's "In My Arms" mentions the person the protagonist (who depending on who you ask is either God or a mother) is talking about has blue eyes.

  • Restless Heart's "The Bluest Eyes in Texas," in which the singer is haunted by the eyes of the girl he abandoned to travel the country.

  • No matter what her doll is or what character she "plays" in a Direct to Video film, Barbie always has blue eyes even when her hair is brown instead of its normal blonde. The main thing that has been consistent about her personality throughout the decades is how she is a selfless, sweet young woman. Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse exaggerates this to make her a Parody Sue.

    Video Games 
  • BioShock:
    • Elizabeth, from Bioshock Infinite, has quite large and distinct blue eyes - which well-reflects her naive, good-hearted nature throughout the game, contrasting with gruff, cynical Booker. Considering the range of emotions she needs to exhibit, it is one of the most important aspects of her design, and her baby self is instantly recognisable by her huge eyes, even in a scene which is Deliberately Monochrome. In Burial at Sea, her character has developed into a cynical Femme Fatale and to reflect this, her wide and child-like eyes are replaced by a glare that can probably kill at thirty paces.
    • Eleanor, from BioShock 2, obviously has them as well, and is daddy's little girl, working to protect the Little Sisters and rejecting her mother's cynical cult philosophy - provided you don't harvest any Little Sisters.
  • In Dragon Ball Fighter Z, Android 21 has blue eyes and acts as a Nice Girlnote . She even retains them in the good version of her true form, unlike her evil half who has Black Eyes of Crazy.
  • Final Fantasy:
    • Final Fantasy X: Tidus has blue eyes, and happens to be new to combat and new to Spira, playing more towards the 'naivete' aspect of the trope. Yuna's left eye is blue; she happens to be an All-Loving Hero, playing more into the 'pure of soul' aspect of the trope. This is most obvious when contrasted with the down to earth, cynical characters of Auron and Lulu, who both possess brown eyes.
  • Fire Emblem:
    • The bishop Lucius of Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade has soft, shining blue eyes, and is an extremely gentle and kind Nice Guy. His kindness is enough that he immediately forgives Renault, the man responsible for killing his father and getting him sent to an Orphanage of Fear during the course of the game, and he also manages to convince his bitter, angry friend Raven to give up his destructive plans of revenge. This may overlap with Heavenly Blue, as he wears a long, pale blue robe matching the color of his eyes.
  • Pit from Kid Icarus: Uprising has big blue eyes that somehow reflect his sweet, innocent, and kind-hearted nature. He is, appropriately, a cute angel and the main protagonist of the story.
  • The Kingdom Hearts series features lots of characters with unique eye colors (blue, green, purple, yellow). Following the Final Fantasy series, the blue ones, though, tend to be possessed by the good guys:
    • Sora is the epitome of this trope, being a Naïve Newcomer and Idiot Hero who has no clear aspiration before the journey and no idea that the world he lives in is very small, only to be thrust into a much, much larger world. He's also an All-Loving Hero, willing to befriend everyone, only using his keyblade expertise to defeat those bad heartless (which the series later reveals only purifies them; Nobody Can Die in this universe), and to perform a (brief) Heroic Sacrifice. Further into the series reveals that he's literally going to play the messiah role, as he's destined to free those people suffering because of the Big Bad's doing.
      • His nobody, Roxas, who inherits his blue eyes, is a bit looser in the naïve part as he's a quite Troubled, but Cute and is not an Idiot Hero like Sora is. His doppelgänger, Ventus, on the other hand, plays this as straight as Sora, down to the Idiot Hero part, and probably even more when you take into account that his darkness is separated, making him like a male Princess of Heart.
    • Then there's Kairi. Her blue eyes are darker and are a bit purplish, but otherwise, she fits this trope, considering that, as a Princess of Heart, she is a literal Purity Personified.
      • Kairi's first doppelganger, Naminé, combines this with Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold. Her bad actions are only because she's Just Following Orders, and unlike the tomboyish Kairi, Naminé is a straight-up Yamato Nadeshiko. Kairi's second doppelganger, Xion, too, especially when you take into account that she's the first person sane enough to realize that the Organization XIII's plan is definitely not just.
    • Ventus' fellow protagonists in Birth By Sleep, Terra and Aqua, both have blue eyes in the same shade as his, but they may actually subvert this trope, since, aside from their heroism, they're quite experienced, no-nonsense young adults. In addition, the former is an easily swayed Green-Eyed Monster who eventually fuses to become Xehanort.
  • Kirby: Kirby is a pink puffball creature. He has Blue Bead Eyes that add to his innocent and naïve nature.
  • The Legend of Zelda:
  • In Lightning Legend: Daigo no Daibouken, Cheerful Child Yuki Shirogane has this type of blue eyes. It's even pointed out in her in-game character profile, as the "distinctive features" part of it mentions: "Long hair; Big round eyes".
  • Liara T'Soni from Mass Effect has bright, innocent blue eyes, matching both her personality and her skin color. Liara's eyes make for an interesting commentary on her alignment throughout the series. In the first game, she had the innocent blue variety, in stark contrast to her mother's darker, more piercing shade. In the second game, Liara's eyes become a darker but no less vibrant shade of blue, reflecting her hardening nature as she becomes more ruthless and vicious while hunting the Shadow Broker. It is most noticeable in the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC, where her face is visible without being lit by multiple orange holographic displays. However, if you carried a relationship over from the first game and re-established that relationship after the mission, she's back to the same baby blue she had before - perhaps reflecting your influencing her back to her old, optimistic worldview.
  • The heroic and happy Pac-Man has been given a dark blue, almost purple-ish blue, in his redesign. Oddly Street Fighter X Tekken gives him something more along the lines of Creepy Blue Eyes.
  • Lip from Panel de Pon has big cute blue eyes, befitting her roles as both the main character and one of the younger fairies.
  • Several Pokémon protagonists, such as May and Hilda, have these to indicate youthfulness.
  • In Potion Permit, everyone in the Farmhouse family except for Garret has light blue eyes, showing how kind and open they are to the Chemist. Garret, on the other hand, has Icy Blue Eyes because he's distrusting of the doctor.
  • Puyo Puyo:
    • Lidelle is a blue-eyed demihuman who is a Friend to All Living Things, but ridiculously shy towards most others. She is still one of the nicest characters in the series, even showing a big-brother affection for Satan of all people when she discovers he has horns like hers (she's ashamed of having horns, so this comes as a pleasant surprise to her).
    • Ess from Puyo Puyo Tetris subverts this as while she has blue eyes and does look innocent, she is actually a massive Jerkass.
    • There's also Marle from Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, the Will of the Worlds who also happens to be a total sweetheart who loves to have fun. Her eyes have more of an amethyst shade to them though.
  • Kiel from Rune Factory 4 has eyes that straddle the line between blue and grey, but a personality that's all Nice Guy. He's also a Ditzy Genius and rather naive, playing to both sides of this trope.
  • Silent Hill examples:
    • In the first game, everyone except three (Cheryl, Kaufmann, and Jodie, who all have brown eyes) have blue eyes, but only the protagonist Harry fits this trope: a kind and naïve man who will risk anything to save his kidnapped daughter.
    • In Silent Hill 2, Laura, the youngest character in the cast, has blue eyes. Though she sometimes steers into the Bratty Half-Pint territory, she is possibly the only innocent character in the game, considering James' actions. It's implied that due to this innocence, Laura sees Silent Hill the way it should be: a nice resort town, not the foggy and/or hellish world the others do. Plus, she is the only character in the game who will survive unharmed to the very end regardless of what ending you get.
  • Red, the Idiot Hero of Solatorobo. Director Frasier from the orphanage in Basset comments how Red's eyes tell her he's a good person.
  • Sonic the Hedgehog series:
  • Super Mario Bros. franchise:
    • Both Mario and Luigi have oval sky blue eyes, the former for being The Hero and the latter for his cowardly and shy nature.
    • The sweet-natured Princess Peach also has these for being The Heart of the Mushroom Kingdom, as does the tomboyish and fun-loving Princess Daisy of Sarasaland.
    • The space princess Rosalina has pale blue-green eyes which represent her space travels and her role as the mother of the cosmos.
  • Tales of Vesperia: Flynn Scifo has Innocent Blue Eyes to match his golden hair. He is, appropriately, a Knight in Shining Armor.
  • Thrall from Warcraft has blue eyes that are actually both "baby blue" and piercing. That is, the colour looks both innocent and quite striking on an orc. Given his personality, that is probably exactly the intended effect. It also stands out, considering many orcs have red eyes as a result of the demon blood they drank (Thrall's parents didn't).

  • Jordan of Agents of the Realm has bright blue eyes and is extremely trusting. She also doesn't know that she works for the villain.
  • Chihiro from Every Button Hurts the Other Guy, although in her case the trope may be being played with; she mostly fits the role of the wide-eyed and well-intentioned young girl, but her crush on Shota borders on the perverse.
  • The Noordegraaf Files has Theo, the protaganist. He's a Nice Guy with pale blue eyes. He's also very naive and is liable to see good in people that isn't actually there.
  • Pixie and Brutus: Pixie's sclera are colored a light blue. This enhances her endearing appearance and underlines her friendly, innocent personality.
  • Princess Princess (2012): Sadie has blue eyes, and is quite the pure, shy girl starting out.
  • Tove features the title character whose eyes are often a shining blue, made more prominent by the fact that her eyes are usually the only ones drawn in color and are the only ones with pupils. They're most likely of the "inexperienced" flavor, as she is a teenage girl who is The Chosen One destined to save the world.
  • Wet Sand: Jo has bright sea green eyes, representing his youth and bright innocence that his love interest Ian craves.
  • Kayla of Zoophobia. Her pastel blue eyes represent her Incorruptible Pure Pureness.

  • Echo Chamber: Gaelyn matches her blue hair, with a gorgeous set of warm blue eyes. And as usual for the series, she gets a series of close-ups that show them off to the most.
  • Eieon from Shadows of the Past is said to have pure blue eyes that complement his pacifism. This work is a machinima so the eyes were not shown.

    Western Animation 
  • Blaze and the Monster Machines: Both Blaze and Gabby have blue eyes. Blaze is the heroic monster truck who loves adventure, while Gabby is the feisty mechanic who can fix anything.
  • Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers has Gadget Hackwrench, who has pale blue eyes is very sweet and innocent, to the point of naivete.
  • Danny Fenton from Danny Phantom is the heroic, usually nice Kid Hero protagonist of the series. His Danny Phantom ghost form, however, has neon green eyes.
  • Timmy Turner of The Fairly OddParents!. His eyes represent his youth, he's ten years old, and arguably his innocence. He is also arguably the hero of the series, albeit a Designated Hero many times.
  • The Dragon Prince: As the most pure hearted and kind of the main cast, Prince, later King, Ezran fittingly has blue eyes.
  • Goofy is a Kindhearted Simpleton who is drawn with blue eyes in certain appearances, such as in Knight for a Day, Two Gun Goofy, How to Sleep, and certain episodes of Goof Troop.
  • Jem:
    • Jerrica and her sister Kimber both have blue eyes. Jerrica is the Nice Guy protagonist of the series while Kimber is the youngest main character. Both are a part of a band whose songs are almost all about friendship, romance, and charity.
    • Stormer is a member of The Misfits and thus she is an antagonist, but she is consistently the Token Good Teammate of the band. She doesn't do mean things unless she's doing it alongside the others, and even then she draws the line at certain things. Stormer is the only Misfit on good terms with a Hologram (Kimber).
  • Kaeloo:
    • Quack Quack, the youngest and possibly most innocent of the show's four main characters, is also the only one with blue eyes. The remaining three main characters, all of whom have jerkass tendencies to varying degrees, have red ones instead.
    • Of Stumpy's seven younger sisters, Ardoise, Nombril, Lavanade, and Violasse, who are all relatively sweet and innocent, have blue eyes. Poucave, who is morally gray, and Cramoisie, who is an outright bully, have red and green eyes respectively.
  • Charlotte from Making Fiends is an odd example: every human character is completely one color, and she is baby blue. This trope could be why, rather than using pink or yellow or something more "fitting" for her personality. She fits the character type, being innocent, childish, naive and optimistic. It causes her to contrast with Vendetta, who is completely moss-green, filling in for the negative Green eyes.
  • My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic: Two prominent examples:
    • Pinkie Pie has bright blue eyes, and is childish, optimistic, and considers it her purpose in life to make others happy.
    • Fluttershy is also blue-eyed and is innocent, kind and a Friend to All Living Things. Though hers have a slight green hue which relates to her connection with nature.
    • Princess Flurry Heart, the infant daughter of Shining Armor and Princess Cadance, also has very bright, blue eyes like her father.
  • Phantom Investigators: Daemona and Casey both have blue eyes. Daemona is the heroic, optimistic, and kindhearted leader of the gang, while Casey is very innocent and sweet.
  • PJ Masks: The team leader and hero Catboy got these big blue heroic eyes standing for his heroism◊ and true blue kindness plus kitty cuteness◊.
  • Bubbles from The Powerpuff Girls. Her blue eyes represent her youth and her sweetness. Her element is sugar and she is known for being bubbly, kind and the cutest of the trio.
  • The titular character of Rainbow Brite has blue eyes. She was originally a Heart Warming Orphan and later became the savior of Rainbow Land and is now The Leader of the Color Kids.
  • Ready Jet Go!: Sean has cotton-candy blue eyes. He's dorky, a bit shy yet virtuous. However, animation inconsistencies can make them look green or grey.
  • While Recess uses a standard black eyes style, Word of God says that T.J. has blue eyes. He's nine years old and very youthful, has an innocence about him, and is also The Hero of the show.
  • Rugrats uses Black Dot Pupils, however, the pilot featured a close-up of Tommy's eye and revealed it to be blue. He is the confident, cheerful protagonist and is very innocent (Tommy is a baby after all).
  • Princess Sofia from Sofia the First, which matches her Princess Classic status. She is innocent (to the point of being naive) friendly to animals and people alike, rarely thinks bad of someone (if she does, it is downplayed and justified), and she is also very modest, humble and carefree.
  • Speed Buggy: The titular character has blue eyes and is quite possibly the nicest talking car you will ever meet.
  • SpongeBob SquarePants. He has an innocence about him. He is, also, the hero of the series, or at least, he is so in the movie.
  • Star Wars Rebels: Ezra Bridger has enormous, deep blue eyes. Mess with his friends though, and they can quickly become Icy Blue Eyes.
  • Super Why!: The male Super Readers, Whyatt/Super Why, Pig/Alpha Pig and Woofster, all have blue eyes (though Pig's eyes are slightly teal-ish). Whyatt is brainy, kind and heroic, Pig is vulnerable but brave and smart, and Woofster is playful.
  • Total Drama: Lindsay, the Dumb Blonde who has blue eyes and lacks a genuine malicious backbone on her, being that she's very sweet and good-natured, even to her enemies.
  • Most Autobots in Transformers have blue eyes so that viewers can easily identify them as the good guys.

     Other 
  • In Finnish, "blue-eyed" ("sinisilmäinen") is used as an expression to refer to naivety.
