    Twilight Sparkle
Voiced by: Mewsel

The Bearer of Magic.

  • Acid Reflux Nightmare: Mentioned having had them after a cook off her friends had. She thinks she got Rainbow Dash's.
  • Action Girl: To an even greater degree than in canon: she's more than capable of handling herself in a fight and has had far more of them.
  • And Knowing Is Half the Battle:
    • She does try to prepare herself as much as possible for the encounter in Trixie's mind and in the end she is able to save Trixie.
    • She's also came up with a spell to severely weaken Discord well before finding out he'd return. It comes in very handy.
  • Anti-Magic:
    • Her Failsafe Spell, which while it didn't effect Discord's, is quite useful against many enemies after him.
    • The Anti-Chaos barrier she came up with severely weakens Discord.
  • Ascended Fanboy: She is a big fan of Celestia, and of course is now a Bearer of the Elements along with her friends as Celestia once was. Several future chapters show her becoming an Alicorn herself as in canon.
  • The Atoner: Subverted, her attempt to make up for the spell she cast on the Cutie Mark Crusaders backfires. Realizing she should've simply left well enough alone is a major plot point.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: She is able to understand and learn magic in an incredible rate. This is linked to her Element of Magic, which explicitly gives her Power Copying as an ability.
  • Badass Bookworm: She loves her books and is brilliant, but her toughness speaks for itself.
  • Badass Bureaucrat: Her skills are legendary and she practically runs Ponyville when everybody else has to recover from Discord. Given the ruler of Equestria was also her teacher, it's little surprise.
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: She ends up fighting on in Trixie's mind. Trixie later returns the favor while Twilight is brainwashed by Chrysalis.
  • Big Brother Mentor: A gender-inverted one for Trixie, who she supported and help become a better and stronger person. She also later becomes one to Sunset as in canon, according to potential future chapters.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Also gender-inverted towards Trixie and Spike.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: By Queen Chrysalis during the Wedding Arc. More so than Shining, who was mainly used as a shield generator, while Chrysalis used AJ as a weapon. Eventually freed by Trixie and Cadence.
  • Break the Cutie:
    • Because of Discord, as in canon, however here it's shown from her perspective and just how much his 'game' hurt her.
    • Happens during the Wedding. It's even worse than in canon because Spike and Applejack are brainwashed by Chrysalis and actively make it worse. Applejack spends the entire Arc a brainwashed slave who's fully aware of what she's doing but can't do anything about it, even while forced to hurt her friends. Her brainwashed brother being used in an attempt to kill her also doesn't help.
  • Break Them by Talking: Is forced to do this to Trixie by Queen Chrysalis due to being brainwashed.
  • Buy Them Off: Unintentionally to a degree, but she gives gifts to the CMC as an apology for the Want It Need It Spell... but all she's doing is opening old wounds to ease her guilty conscience.
  • By "No", I Mean "Yes": When she was a filly, Shining asked if she was raising Spike. She said no, Celestia was, then listed off the things that are her responsibility making it clear that, yes, she is.
  • Can't Hold Her Liquor: Apparently, she's quite a lightweight when it comes to drinking. We don't see this because she actually learned from it.
  • Cannot Keep a Secret: Subverted, she takes her promise to Trixie to not reveal anything about her mind very seriously.
  • Care-Bear Stare: She is capable of using the Memory Spell in this fashion, jolting somepony out of sinking into despair by reminding them what's in their life worth fighting for.
  • Composite Character: Is literally the fusion of G1 Twilight and G3 Minty.
  • Continuity Snarl: Invoked Umbra Breeze stuffs her full of every grimdark rumor of her he could find, forming a more or less nonfunctioning mess. This was revenge for Amicitia being a thorn in his side. The CMC save her.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She has these moments. She ends up rubbing off on Spike.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: She was able to do that to Nightmare Moon and Trixie.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Hits this in her battle against Nightmare Whisper due to her Memory Spell backfiring due to Whisper's nature and only once she snaps out of it can she think and fight effective again.
  • Determinator: Twilight did never go down as easy as her opponents thought. It also backfires on Discord big time and in the Dark World it eventually leads her to become a Nightmare and to overpower Discord herself.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Manages to defeat the Came Back Wrong Destruction/Lioncord with some help from Discord.
  • Freudian Slip: Very rarely, she calls Celestia "momjesty."
  • Future Badass: Pretty much every future version of her we've seen. One of which implies she'll eventually defeat Death himself.
  • Genius Bruiser: Is extremely powerful magically, and very good in combat, but also undoubtedly a genius level intellect.
  • Good with Numbers: She can be extremely precise with her magic and organisation skills.
  • The Heroine: The leader of the mane six and undoubtedly a hero.
  • Heroic BSoD: Suffers from one during the battle against Nightmare Whisper, because she cannot bear to see how much Fluttershy is suffering. She breaks out of it by the end, though.
  • The Hero: Is the one responsible for the defeats of Nightmare Moon, Discord, Loneliness and Nightmare Whisper.
  • Indy Ploy: Twilight makes up much of what she has to do in Trixie's mind on the fly but she did try to prepare herself as much as possible before it happened. Future situations often force her into this as well.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: With Princess Celestia.
  • In the Blood: Her family on her mother's side summons soap boxes when lecturing. It's a curse put on them during Discord's reign. Her mother is also a novelist.
  • Journey to the Center of the Mind: Into Trixie's mind to save her from Discord's taint and her own Loneliness.
  • Legacy Character: Is implied to be descended from the G1 Twilight, whose family line also helped Celestia and Luna during Discord's reign. She's at the very least her Reincarnation.
  • Ludicrous Precision: Twilight is able to time events to the point second in her head. She explains that some of the more complicated spells require that kind of mental precision in order to cast.
  • Mr. Exposition: She LOVES giving detailed explanations to others. It apparently runs in her family.
  • My Own Grampa: She was created by the fusion of the G1 Twilight's shadow of existence and G3 Minty's soul. She's also implied to be biologically descended from the G1 Twilight, so she's descended from one of the beings she's a Composite Character of.
  • "No More Holding Back" Speech: Delivers one to Nightmare Whisper upon coming to a realization of the nature of friendship. This realization then allows her to summon the Element of Magic.
  • Official Couple: The Distant Finale shows she and Flash Sentry eventually get together.
  • Pals with Jesus: Is a good friend to Celestia, Luna, and Cadence.
  • Parental Issues: She is worried that her parents fear her power after she turned them into plants once.Ironically, her father was turned into a magicphobic pony by Discord, which wouldn't have happened if he already was afraid of her, confirming it's all in her mind.
  • Power Copying: A specific power of her Element Of Magic, which allows her to copy spells with a great deal of ease. She can copy them exactly as her unique variation.
  • Power Incontinence: She normally has no problem with this…except if she gets drunk. Last time she did, she lost control of her powers and Ponyville had to be reassured that Discord hadn't returned.
  • Retroactive Preparation: Rather than wasting it on nothing, she uses Starswirl's time travel spell to better prepare for the Final Battle in this universe.
  • Sanity Slippage: All the stress caused her a delayed mental breakdown after Discord was defeated. She got better.
  • Sliding Scale of Silliness vs. Seriousness: She has her moments. What does she do after learn about Equestria's sad and dark past? Help Spike reclaim Smarty Pants by acting as the horse for his act. Pinkie Pie would be proud.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!:
    • To Loneliness during their fight.
    • Gets a pretty good one on Discord in the Final Battle by responding to his attempt at claiming the ponies 'need' him for helping them grow by pointing out he just showed them their flaws, they did the rest...then showing him the flaw he's failed to grow one bit from: Dissy and Shady hugging as father and son, causing Discord to have a minor Freak Out.
    • Gets several in during the Final Battle.
  • The Strategist: She is usually the one who comes up with the plans of the group. She came up with a very effective contingency plan for weakening Discord in the case he ever came back.
  • Superpowered Evil Side:
    • In an alternate Dark World, she becomes Nightmare Purgatory.
    • In the current Dark World, we find out that this is actually a "Groundhog Day" Loop caused by Nightmare Eclipse (though the cast refers to her as Nightmare Paradox). Unlike the others, she is a potential future Twilight who wants Twilight to be like her to continue the loop.
  • Took a Level in Badass: She became a much more capable leader over time, and became more combat capable over time.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Nightmare Moon, Discord, Loneliness and Nightmare Whisper did end up underestimating her big time.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Exploited by Chrysalis. She left a 'surprise' curse to trigger if her mind control on Twilight was removed. It leave Twilight's mind completely free... but makes her see and hear Cadence as Chrysalis. So Twilight is not holding back as she tries to obliterate her babysitter.
  • Vision Quest: Is determined to help Trixie with her recovery and in turn develops herself. Trixie later returns the favour when Twilight has a breakdown out of guilt of what she had done to the Cutie Mark Crusaders.

    Applejack

Applejack / Abigail Jacqueline V / Princess Veritas

Voiced by: Robotbutterfly / Lindsey Lloyd

The Bearer of Honesty.

  • Action Girl: She sure is one. Her biggest moment of this is standing up to Nyarlathotrot and managing to hold her own, albeit with a power up from her previous incarnations. After a powerup from fusing with Nightmare Mirror, she beats him.
  • Alone in a Crowd:
    • When the cast is brainwashed by Princess Gaia, she's the only one that can see through it.
    • She also ends up in this position during Rumors, as despite being affected by them, she's still mentally herself and aware of what's happening.
  • And I Must Scream:
    • Implied by Applejack's response to the Interviewer wanting to know more about her time as Chrysalis' slave. Her response is to refuse to talk about it, implying it was traumatic. After being freed, she describes the experience as if she'd been constantly drowning for three days. This is unique as her truth vision kept her sane.
    • Happens again during to Discord's endgame, being completely aware but still forced to behave like the rumors force her to until the CMC save Big Mac and purify her. It's easy to see why her first act after being freed is to challenge Nyarlathotrot and ultimately kick his flank.
  • Artificial Limbs: In the reality Discord's endgame creates, she has one. She naturally loses it when things are fixed.
  • Badass Boast: Gets several against Nyarlathotrot. She backs it up.
Applejack: Ya hurt my friends, my family, my home, and ya made it so Ah couldn't protect my baby sister who's still in buckin' grade school... get lost while ya still can.
  • Badass in Distress:
    • Is brainwashed by Chrysalis for a large portion of the Wedding Arc.
    • Spends most of the Rumors Arc incapacitated by the Rumors and needs to be rescued by the CMC. She kicks Nyarlathotrot's flank once she's freed.
  • Bequeathed Power: Dark World!Nightmare Mirror sacrifices herself to save her from one of Nyarlathotrot's attacks, then fuses her remains with Applejack to give her her power. This results in Applejack ascending to Alicornhood and allows her to defeat Nyarlathotrot. She loses it to recreate Mirror as an innocent baby, but decides to try and become an Alicorn the hard way as a result. According to a Loose Canon story, she'll succeed.
  • Break the Cutie:
    • Because of Discord.
    • Happens again when she spends a lot of the Wedding Arc in an And I Must Scream situation thanks to Chrysalis.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: By Queen Chrysalis, but is eventually freed by Applebloom.
  • Composite Character: She's literally the fusion of G1 and G3 Applejack.
  • The Confidant: Learns a lot of ponies' problems inflicted on them by Discord's Mind Rape by looking into the Truth, but can be trusted to only use them to help them. This is especially true when it comes to Rainbow Dash having faked being Discorded.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Learned to control her truth vision completely after defeating Nightmare Mirror.
  • Deity of Human Origin: Dark World Nightmare Mirror sacrifices herself and gives her her power, transforming her into an Alicorn and allowing her to defeat Nyarlathotrot. She sacrifices the power to resurrect Mirror as an innocent filly, but desires as a result to become an Alicorn the hard way someday. A Loose Canon story has her succeed eventually.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?:
    • As with all her friends, she helped beat Nightmare Moon, Discord, and Nightmare Whisper.
    • Defeated Nightmare Mirror with the help of multiple alternate versions of herself.
    • Fights Nyarlathotrot and does some damage on her own (including punching him repeatedly). But after being given Dark World!Nightmare Mirror's power and becoming Veritas, she ultimately defeats him. By literally bucking him out of the universe.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Gains Living Lie Detector powers early on. During the battle with Nyarlathotrot, Dark World!Nightmare Mirror gives her her power and transforms her into an Alicorn. This power up is only temporary as she gives it up to let Mirror be resurrected as an innocent filly, but she desires to make it permanent with her own hard work someday. According to Loose Canon, she succeeds.
  • For Want Of A Nail: While looking into the Well of Truth, she sees a future where she stayed in Manehattan with Aunt and Uncle Orange, earned her cutie mark and renamed herself Orangejack, became a successful businesspony, got married, and had two foals, a filly named Firebloom and a colt named Orange Chance.
  • Fusion Dance: Power booster version: Dark World Nightmare Mirror sacrifices herself and fuses with her to give her the power to beat Nythy. They split again so Mirror can be resurrected.
  • A Glitch in the Matrix: She is able to realize that she is trapped within an illusion of Princess Gaia. Namely that while there wasn't any deceit in Princess Gaia, there wasn't any truth either, because it was an illusion projection.
  • Hat Damage: Her original hat is destroyed during the battle with Nightmare Whisper, which sadly was a momento of her dead father.
  • Heroic Willpower:
    • While she doesn't broken free or outright defied her, she's so far resisted Chrysalis' attempts to break her spirit and is Fighting from the Inside. Chrysalis' words imply she's doing this out of pure stubbornness and willpower. She holds on long enough to be freed by Applebloom (three days later), all due to sheer force of will.
    • Managed to remain sane and not become a Nightmare despite her truth vision letting her know exactly what's happening during the Rumors Arc while they keep her from doing anything due to what they made her into. The moment she's free she takes on Nythy himself.
  • Hidden Depths: There is much more to her truth vision then it seems at the beginning and it has the danger of turning her into a Nightmare. Thankfully she works through it and avoids it.
  • I Am Your Opponent: Pulls this on Nyarlathotrot to let the CMC and Daring Do get away. That and she has every intent of defeating him after all he's done. She does.
  • It's Personal:
    • Declares Chrysalis forcing her to hurt her friends unforgivable.
    • Nyarlathotrot harming her family and friends made things personal for her. It's also personal on Nyarlathotrot's end, as he hates Applejack for her previous incarnation Saint Sweetheart curing the Whispering Plague (who WAS Nythy) and becoming a legend for it. She's also the one that literally kicks him out of the universe.
  • Legacy Character: Is the descendant of the G1 Applejack, and is apparently the "fifth of the fifth line", presumably meaning she's the fifth Applejack of the fifth family line descended from the original Applejack.
  • Life Isn't Fair: Applejack learns that this is one of the most fundamental, yet painful Truths. It's her realization of this, and her decision not to be afraid of it anymore, that allows Applejack to overcome Discord's taint. It also makes her a good choice for taking on Nyarlathotrot, the God of Tragedy.
  • Living Lie Detector:
    • After looking into the Truth, she gains the ability to see the truth, or through lies, in a person's eyes. If they're lying, this causes them discomfort. While she can see through Princess Gaia's Lotus-Eater Machine, she was fooled by Gaia herself until she saw that there wasn't any truth in her eyes either.
    • Turns out that, had action not been taken, if the Pony POV universe split off from the main timeline (due to something happening in the show that CAN'T work with the fic's canon), she'd have been driven mad and become her Superpowered Evil Side. So she had to go on a journey, team up with five of her alternate reality selves to kick Nightmare Mirror's flank. This act not only stopped her from going insane, but gave her full control over this ability.
  • Megaton Punch: Ends her battle with Nyarlathotrot by using her newly acquired full Alicorn power to buck him so hard the shockwave is felt in Neighpon and his soul is literally sent flying out of the universe.
  • My Own Grampa: She's descended from G1 Applejack, whose Shadow of Existence fused with G3 Applejack to create her.
  • Mind Rape:
    • Her Truth vision can do this just like her potential Superpowered Evil Side Nightmare Mirror but Applejack outright refuses to use it as such due to the fact that refusing to do it is what separates her from Mirror. Unfortunately for Rainbow Dash, she didn't have much choice in the matter under Chrysalis' control, and Applejack states this is one of the things she'll never forgive Chrysalis for, which is a serious thing for a pony to say.
    • Chrysalis and Evil!Sweetie have tried to do this to her and break her spirit, but she managed to hold on via Heroic Willpower until Applebloom can save her.
    • After being freed by Applebloom, the two end up using the Power of Love the Apple Family possesses to supercharge her truth vision and do this to Chrysalis in self defense. How severe is it? It destroys her ability to think the self deception 'my past is dead' and leaves her screaming on the floor for several minutes.
  • Nice Guy: Gender-inverted; she's kind and friendly to pretty much everyone.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: She decides to turn down her truth vision while in Canterlot due to how much of high society relies on the information you keep secret. This causes her to not see through Queen Chrysalis' disguise and allows her to brainwash her.
  • No-Sell:
    • She is able to resist mind control thanks to her Living Lie Detector powers. This works even against Princess Luna/Moonlight. However, due to letting Chrysalis in, she ended up being brainwashed by her. However, Chrysalis implies even then she had difficulty forcing Applejack to lie.
    • Her Element armor protects her from Dragocord's brainwashing flames by keeping her true to herself.
  • Only Sane Man: She is the only one able to resist Princess Gaia's mind control in Everfree and the only one able to see what the Princess really is. The same applies during Discord's endgame.
  • Other Me Annoys Me: In her Butterflies chapter, she meets an alternate version of herself who stayed in Manehattan and became a businesspony known as Orangejack. Applejack is immediately disgusted with her for leaving the farm and seemingly abandoning the Apple family, while Orangejack is equally disdainful of her for seemingly never having accomplished anything by staying on the farm. The sudden appearance of Nightmare Mirror forces them to work together and understand each other better.
  • Physical Goddess:
    • After Dark World!Nightmare Mirror gives her power to her, causing her to undergo Alicornification and become Veritas.
    • Eventually gave up her power in order for the wish that Dark World! Nightmare Mirror returns again. Applejack then vows to work to become an alicorn, given all of its experience was amazing, and that giving the power back was very much painful. It also should be noted that AJ also agreed to this since her powers would not be effective in a world filled with rumors. According to Loose Canon, she eventually succeeds to become one.
  • Reincarnation: Of the G1 and G3 Applejacks. G3 Applejack was also a reformated G2 Sweetheart, meaning she's also her reincarnation as well. This comes in handy when her previous incarnations lend their power to battle Nyarlathotrot.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: Her Living Lie Detector powers came with this. It would've drove her insane and turned her into Nightmare Mirror had measures not been taken. It stays during Discord's end game, making her the only one of the mane six who's aware reality has been changed even though she's affected by it.
  • Servile Snarker: While brainwashed into being Chrysalis' slave, she manages to resist enough to be this to Chrysalis and jab her every chance she gets.
  • Shadow Archetype: The Nightmare Mirrors she runs into are often this to her. Played literally when Dark World Nightmare Mirror literally hides in her shadow.
  • She's Back:
    • After spending three days as Chrysalis' Brainwashed and Crazy victim and being subjected to Mind Rape, she's finally freed by Applebloom and proceeds to supercharge her Truth Vision with the Power of Love between the Apple Family to give Chrysalis a taste of her own medicine, leaving the Changeling Queen laying on the ground and screaming in agony.
    • After being freed from the rumors, she gives Nyarlathotrot a Badass Boast and helps the CMC kill his Black Storm form. She then takes him on by herself to let the CMC continue on, and does a pretty dang good job of it and ends up defeating him.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Nightmare Mirror, but this Applejack never became her at all. The entire point of the sidestory was to stop her from becoming Nightmare Mirror. In fact, Applejack is noteworthy in that she actually fought her Superpowered Evil Side.
  • Team Mom: Kind and generally motherly to the rest of the Mane Six.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Feels this way towards Queen Chrysalis for making her Mind Rape Rainbow Dash and hurt Applebloom by betraying her. It's mentioned that for an Equestrian Pony to say this, they really mean it.
  • Took a Level in Badass: She sure did. She takes another one when Dark World!Nightmare Mirror sacrifices herself to turn her into an Alicorn, allowing her to defeat Nyarlathotrot by literally kicking him out of the universe. Though this one is only temporary and she'll have to earn it back via hard work.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Her hat, which belonged to her father. It's destroyed during the battle with Nightmare Whisper, and she wears a replica made by Rarity.
  • Vision Quest: Has to enter Truth to learn how to control her turth vision and ends up defeating Nightmare Mirror together with five alternate versions of herself.
  • Visions of Another Self: Has these both times she looks into the Truth, seeing numerous alternate versions of herself and her friends.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Gives one to Rainbow Dash in response to the Mysterious Mare-Do-Well incident.

    Pinkamena "Pinkie" Diane Pie
Voiced by: Wollffeey

The Bearer of Laughter.

  • Abusive Parents: Subverted, they do love her and that was not the reason Pinkie ran away.
  • Action Girl: No doubt. Especially after she becomes sane and has better access to her Toon Physics powers.
  • The Ageless: Used to be this in the G3 timeline, as all ponies were effectively immortal. Its safe to assume that she's lost it since then, however.
  • Amnesia Missed a Spot: Begins to recover more and more from her past after her Split-Personality Merge. Including stuff from the erased universe of G3.
  • The Assimilator: Pinkie's Angry Pie personality wanted to devour the other parts of Pinkie's consciousness. Inverted when Surprise!Pinkie absorbs Angry Pie during the Split-Personality Merge.
  • Badass Adorable: Is a cute Genki Girl but no less tough than the rest of the mane six. She's actually one of their heavier hitting members due to her Toon Physics powers.
  • Break the Cutie: Finding out she was Clover's Imaginary Friend brought to life by the world changing spell resulted in this. Thankfully Twilight, Zecora, and Luna are there to help her through it.
  • Berserk Button: Mentioning a certain fanfic tends to be this for her. She overcomes it during the events of the Wedding Arc when, thanks to the brainwashed Twilight, the Changelings start using it against her.
  • Better Than New: After her Split-Personality Merge, Pinkie is able to think more clearly, argue points more intelligently, use her gifts to solve specific problems, utilize her medium awareness more effectively and recall her own past with more clarity.
  • Cassandra Truth: Most of her fourth-wall-breaking asides end up like this to the characters in the story, but they become less frequent as everyone begins to catch on.
  • The Cameo: She keeps showing up as a Funny Background Event at parties in Shining Armor's arc. She outright says she's doing it to invoke this trope.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Even after her Split-Personality Merge. Justified as she is from another world, the G3 one to be exact.
  • Composite Character: Is literally a fusion of her G3 self, G1 Surprise, and a touch of G3 Rarity.
  • Deep Sleep: Goes into one after finally falling asleep after her discording. She performs a Split-Personality Merge while asleep and comes out considerably more sane.
  • Driven to Suicide: Discovering the fact she was Clover's Imaginary Friend given life results in her deciding to just wait in the fake G3 Ponyville in Everfree to die or let the Shadows of her friends drag her to Oblivion. Thankfully Twilight, Zecora, and Luna help her through it and get her back to from the brink.
  • Does Not Understand Sarcasm: At first. She gets better.
  • Enemy Within: Angry Pie, a split personality born from her repressed anger.
  • Fake-Out Fade-Out: More less does this at the end of Clover's chapter. Yes, she managed this trope in a written medium.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: She built her party cannon by herself and she creative enough to make other machines as well. In fact her party cannon patent did earn her a lot of money.
  • Hammerspace: One of her toon powers is to invoke this trope. Normally with her literally patented party canon.
  • Hidden Depths: Well for starters she's literally the G3 Pinkie Pie and everything she's capable of doing is due to the fact she's from a timeline that was erased from existence. Oh and she's only alive because one of her friends performed a Heroic Sacrifice to preserve her right to exist.
  • Imaginary Friend: Pinkie Pie was born out of Clover's loneliness and imagination as originally just an imaginary friend to keep her happy. She was given life when Clover wished that her special someone would always be there for her as the wish spell took effect. Pinkie's present day reaction was sad to say the least.
  • Infinite Supplies: Never seems to run out of party supplies or the various things she produces from Hammerspace. Justified because, as explained in Shining Armor's Arc Part 11, she patented her Party Cannon and they're apparently extremely profitable (airships worldwide seemed to be packed with them) on top of her cartoon powers.
  • Last of Her Kind: According to a very Loose Canon story, she is the last of the G3.5 ponies left unchanged after a Cosmic Retcon needed to save the universe. This is why she's more cartoony than the rest of the universe. Anarchy even refers to her as the last of her specific type of pony, which was his justification for leaving her (mostly) the same (in truth, he just screwed up and did a Retgone to the wrong pony). This stops being Loose Canon as things go on.
  • Let Me Tell You a Story: Makes use of this quite often.
  • Living Relic: Is the only (mortal) pony to have lived in and remember the G3 universe. She has no Fish out of Temporal Water issues because she still has memories of this world as well, but still has quite a few interesting traits because of this.
  • Look What I Can Do Now!: Namely, weaponized Medium Awareness after her Split-Personality Merge.
  • Medium Awareness: Is well aware she's a fictional character, to the point of being able to weaponize it. Revealed to be a side effect of the fact she's literally not supposed to exist and she discovered it shortly after Anarchy spared her life.
  • Memory Gambit: Revealed to have played one at least two stages deep, first by sealing most of her memories into alternate personalities, and even after that was undone, she still kept her the memories of her battle with Luna & Minty's death and rebirth sealed until Celestia undid it.
  • Meaningful Rename: While she still goes by Pinkie Pie, she starts going more by her full name or just Pinkie Diane after her Split-Personality Merge to symbolize she's now ALL of her. Not all the time, however.
  • My Own Grampa: G1 Surprise merged with her during the end of the G3 timeline, but it's also implied Surprise is also her ancestor.
  • Offscreen Teleportation: Now one of the weapons in Pinkie's arsenal. She uses it to defeat Seacord, and implies it comes from knowing where the folds in reality are.
  • One-Winged Angel: A mental version at least. During Pinkie's Battle in the Center of the Mind, Pinkie Pie and Pinkamena merge to become Surprise, a being far more powerful than Angry Pie.
  • Pals with Jesus:
    • Has become rather close to Celestia and Luna. She was also Celesta's G3 incarnation Star Catcher's friend.
    • Turns out her big sister Maud Pie is the mortal incarnation of Entropy.
  • Past-Life Memories: Has her memories of the G3 universe. She's rather disappointed Twilight doesn't have hers.
  • Please Wake Up: When Minty died in the G3 timeline. Honestly one of the most crushing scenes in the fic, and that's saying a lot!
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Post-Cosmic Retcon, she's this with both Marble and Limestone, as the three are now triplets due to them being added in (Pinkie now having six siblings rather than two). She is still the outgoing extrovert to Marble's shy introvert, and she's friendly with everypony and an All-Loving Hero while Limestone is hostile and angry with everypony. Pinkie Pie's Alicorn is also the embodiment of Joy and Nostalgia while Maud is the mortal incarnation of Entropy herself.
  • Rage Against the Author: In Clover's Gaiden Story, she ends up yelling at the author for skipping "Its About Time".
  • Really 700 Years Old: She's been around since gen 3.5. Even older considering its explained the ponies in the universe were immortal and so old they didn't remember how old they were.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: Has this thanks to the fact she's not supposed to exist.
  • Sanity Slippage:
    • Gets hit with this when she realizes the Pony POV Verse has broken its connection with the heart world. In her mind, she felt it'd be the end of the world all over again and it drives her nearly insane. Princess Celestia helps with that.
    • Happens again briefly when she learns she's Clover's Imaginary Friend brought to life.
  • Screw Destiny: Pinkie Pie is pretty much walking proof of this. She's not supposed to even exist, but one of her friends in the G3 universe performed a Heroic Sacrifice and got erased instead. Pinkie then defied what amounts to a goddess to save Minty from the same fate, and succeeds. Sure, Minty dies, but that's better than "erased from existence". Oh, and it's implied her fight with Luna is why ponies can still spontaneously burst into song, as Luna pretty much says that was supposed to be erased but Pinkie and Minty proved it's value to her..
  • Slasher Smile: Angry Pie gives one, but it's made her default expression in the audio adaptation. It's terrifying as it sounds.
  • Sliding Scale of Silliness vs. Seriousness: She brings some much needed humor to the darker moments but she can be serious if it is the time for that.
  • Spanner in the Works: Manages to be this to every villain in the entire show/fic! Back in the G3 universe during its end, she merges the spirit of her dead friend Minty with the spirit of the G1 Twilight, having no idea what would happen. The result? Twilight Sparkle! This may have something to do with the fact she's literally not supposed to even exist in the G4 timeline, making it rather impossible to effectively plan for her.
  • Spider-Sense: After Pinkie's Split-Personality Merge, her Pinkie Sense has manifested less often, but she seems to be able to control it and uses it to help guide Twilight during the battle against Nightmare Whisper and later battles. Notably it can indirectly detect Nightmare Nihilis' attacks, something most things can't.
  • Split Personality: Had five of them. Then performed a Split-Personality Merge and recombined them all into one.
  • Split-Personality Merge: Merges her personalities back together at the end of her Reharmonizing.
  • Superpowered Evil Side:
  • Stepford Smiler: Her primary personality, "Pinkie", was one of these until her Split-Personality Merge.
  • Success Through Insanity: Her Pinkie Pie craziness is generally weaponized and very helpful.
  • Survivor Guilt: Having been wracked with guilt after her friend StarSong sacrificed every trace of her own past and future existence in her defense, this becomes her key motivation throughout the series, causing her to protect anyone else from being erased at all costs.
  • This Cannot Be!: Inverted: her Angry Pie personality screams "NOT IMPOSSIBLE!" when she tries to nuke Pinkie Pie's healed psyche in her mindcape, in the persona of Surprise... it's a total No-Sell since it's Pikie Pie's mind.
  • There Is Another: Princess Celestia eventually reveals she's G3 Star Catcher, or her reincarnation, giving Pinkie at least one other pony who shares her past. Or at lleast is consciously aware of it.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: From time to time after restoring her sanity completely. For example she is able to answer Rainbow Dash's question that has NO answer with a story. To some degree justified, as she's actually hundreds of years old.

    Rainbow Dash
Voiced by: Robotbutterfly / Lindsey Lloyd

The Bearer of Loyalty.

  • Action Girl: As always. Particularly since she has more places to show it and ultimately masters her Sonic Rainboom to a far greater extent than her canon self.
  • Ascended Fangirl: Got to live her dream of leading the Wonderbolts during their attack on the Changeling occupied Canterlot Castle. She's every bit as excited as you'd expect.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: See Mercy Kill. She's nice, but one of the only members of the mane six willing to kill if she has to. But only if she absolutely has to.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Manages to pull this against her own rumors infected self thanks to Scootaloo reaching out to her and breaking through to her.
  • Break the Cutie: Because of Discord, like most, though even more severely than in canon due to Discord telling all of Cloudsdale about the Sadistic Choice then driving them nuts ANYWAY.
  • Broken Bird: Spends the first half the fic pretty much as this thanks to Discord's Sadistic Choice. She recovers.
  • Broken Pedestal:
    • Is terrified of this happening if Cloudsdale finds out how she dealt with Discord's Sadistic Choice, but ultimately overcomes it.
    • Defied when it comes to Spitfire. She doesn't lose any respect for her after their meeting when Spitfire doubts herself, and actually gives her a pep-talk.
  • Composite Character: Is literally a fusion of the G1 Firefly and the G3 Rainbow Dash, at least according to Loose Canon.
  • Cool Big Sis: Towards Scootaloo, even if they're not related. She's been acting this way since chapter 2 where she comforted her. She eventually becomes her legal guardian. She's such this trope that, with enough prodding from Scoots, she manages to become an Enemy Without for her own Rumors self to protect her.
  • Corporal Punishment: Spanks Scootaloo for her recklessness saving Sweetie Belle, noting even if she IS proud of her for her accomplishment, she still has to do her job as a guardian.
  • Deadpan Snarker: From time to time, she can be pretty damn snarky.
  • Determinator:
    • Is willing to go very far for her friends. This is very obvious in the battle against Nightmare Whisper.
    • Once Scootaloo manages to get through to her in the Rumors Rainbow Factory, she forces herself into a new, rumor generated body so she can save her from her Rumors self.
  • Enemy Without: Scootaloo manages to get through to her in the Rainbow Factory rumor and cause her and her rumors self to split in two. Rainbow Dash, wearing the Mysterious Mare-Do-Well suit, fights Factory Rainbow and manages to defeat her with a Meteor Move into the Pegasus Device. Inverted, however, as it was Rainbow who split off from the evil version of her.
  • Flash Sideways: Receives these from Dark World Nightmare Manacle.
  • Forced to Watch: Discord forced her to watch as he drove everypony in Cloudsdale insane right in front of her.
  • Heroic BSoD: Spends the first half of the Reharmonized series in one over how she handled Discord's Sadistic Choice, as well as how she put on a show of being completely brainwashed as an excuse.
  • Heroic Lineage: Turns out she's descended from G1 Firefly. She's also descended from the G1 Rainbow Ponies.
  • Hidden Depths: She is not only a lot smarter then most believe but able to flawlessly deceive if she has to. Rainbow is not proud on that ability but uses it to reveal Fluttercruel's real personality at their party so that they could really befriend her.
  • Irony: Becomes Mare-Do-Well when she and her rumors infected self split in two, despite her obvious feelings about the suit.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Subverted, she gradually becomes less and less this and more knowledgeable about picking her spots. Applejack is shocked to learn she gave the CMC advice on this while she was brainwashed by Chrysalis.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: In the battle against Nightmare Whisper she is not only risking her own life but is also willing to kill Nightmare Whisper if she has to.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Has gained a great deal of mastery of her Sonic Rainboom to the point she's able to do miniature ones. Not only do these let her move fast, they let her hit really hard. Even without that, she's capable of moving really fast and knows martial arts to hit plenty hard, and she's durable enough to survive smashing through a tree.
  • Malicious Slander: As a foal, she spread rumors that Derpy cheated on a test in anger for her own failure. They eventually reconcile.
  • Mercy Kill: Was ready to do this to Fluttershy to stop her from torturing herself further. Thankfully this isn't necessary.
  • No Sympathy for Grudgeholders: Subverted. Derpy forgives her for lying about her cheating on a test when they were foals and they reconcile.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: She is A LOT smarter then she seems at first, but she is still very hotblooded.
  • Reincarnation: Of G3 Rainbow Dash and Firefly's Shadow of Existence. While not outright said, she was a Tales Unicorn named Prism Rush before that.
  • Parental Substitute: To Scootaloo, who she all but adopts. She later literally adopts her.
  • Power of Trust: Being reminded of her promise to protect Scootaloo and Scootaloo trusting her to keep it helps her break free of Factory Dash and save her during the Rumors Arc.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Mare Do Well, a superhero identity created to save endangered ponies neglected by Rainbow Dash's grand standing, kicks Rainbow-Factory!Rainbow Dash in the face during Rumors, saving Scootaloo from her. It's also Rainbow Dash's true heroic personality under the costume, given a separate body by the power of Scootaloo's faith in Rainbow Dash and the Rumors.
  • Show Don T Tell: Unlike others, it's not explicitly said who her pre-Wish Spell incarnation was, but it's shown through various means it was a Tales Unicorn named Prism Rush, meaning she was all three main pony types at some point.
  • Superpowered Evil Side:
    • Narrowly subverted. Her friends manage to calm her down before she can.
    • In an alternate timeline, she has completed her transformation. Meet Nightmare Manacle.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: Turns out to be the descendant of the Rainbow Ponies from G1, and qualifies as one herself with some of their powers. Applejack wisely decides not to inform her of this until her ego is more under control.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: Inverted, she is one of the few ponies who will apply lethal force if she has to, but she really doesn't want to if she can help it.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Gives a speech like this to Spitfire when she's feeling down about the Wonderbolts repeated failings.

    Rarity Belle
Voiced by: Robotbutterfly / Lindsey Lloyd

The Bearer of Generosity, and the older sister of Sweetie Belle.

  • Action Girl: Especially if Sweetie is in danger. She's also a martial artists, following Wing Chun specifically.
  • Amnesia Missed a Spot: A faint recognition that Pinkie was singing her own song to back to her from G3.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: Responds to Discord's tirade about Diamond Tiara being the only family he has he cares about and doesn't judge him with one.
Rarity: "THEN ACT LIKE FAMILY AND HELP HER!"
  • Badass Normal: Lacks any superpowers the other mane six have other than a Healing Factor that kicks in whenever she uses the Element of Generosity, but she has little to no control over it. Despite this, she's still more than capable of keeping up with the others due to her martial arts skill and precision with the magic she does have. She's also the only one of the Mane Six who will never become a true Nightmare.
  • Berserk Button: Do not call her a narwhal.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Is one of the few members of the Mane Six actively willing to kill if she must. And slit Lone Ranger's throat to teach him a lesson, though saves him. She's also a skilled martial artists and quite dangerous in a fight. She exploits this as part of the gambit to defeat Nhilis.
  • Big Sister Mentor: In the process of preparing Diamond's commission, she gradually becomes this for her. She maintains this mindset even while fighting Diamond while she's an insane Nightmare.
  • Blatant Lies: Covers for Diamond Tiara this way. Even brings shades to block direct eye contact with Applejack, which is completely out of the blue.
  • Break the Cutie: Because of Discord, as in canon, only explored to a greater extent. She gradually recovers.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Defied, she accepts her parents having returned home just in time to congratulate Sweetie Belle for getting her cutie mark, knowing it wasn't the time.
  • Cool Big Sis: To Sweetie Belle and Diamond Tiara, even if the latter isn't actually her sister.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Quite often, though she's much less transparent about it than Rainbow.
  • Fusion Dance: Splits apart her soul and merges with each of the Spirits of Dark Magic, both freeing them from Nhilis and completing and tempering them in the process.
  • Gagging on Your Words: Until she conquers her Mind Rape induced fear of gems, she has great difficulty saying the word diamond or other such words.
  • Gemstone Assault: Using her gemstones and telekinesis for attacks is one of her preferred combat methods.
  • Greed: Revealed to be one of her inner demons, as even in this new universe, she still tries to sneak a piece of cake from Pinkie's cake. The balance between it and her Generosity is why a true Nightmare of hers simply does not exist.
  • Healing Factor: Seems to be an ability of her Element Of Generosity when it's activated. Unfortunately, she still can't use this on anypony else...at first.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Performs one in a plan to save Diamond Tiara, transferring her soul into Nhilis and then merging with the Spirits of Dark Magic to both release them and tempering their traits, purifying Nhilis in the process. This has the added benefit of permanently ending Nightmares, as the Spirits were only making them due to the problems this merger solved.
  • Heroic Will Power: One reason she'll never become a true Nightmare in any world. She also performed soul surgery to herself, which is one of the most painful things in existence, without quitting.
  • I Am Not Left Hoofed: She is shockingly effective in battle. And unlike the others she is much more willing to kill if she has to.
  • Incorruptible Pure Pureness: Played With in that it's the balance between her positive and negative traits that make her incorruptible. A true Nightmare of her simply does not exist because she will never go Nightmare due to said balance.
  • Killed Off for Real: The Rarity we know is effectively dead after merging with the Spirits of Dark Magic, and a new Rarity is created from Princess Rarity's Light of Existence in her place.
  • Mama Bear: Do not threaten Sweetie Belle, she will end you! She's also decidedly comes to hate Discord more for what he did to Diamond.
  • The Medic: Subverted, so far her Element of Generosity only healed herself. Then played straight, as she figures out how to do so.
  • Mercy Kill: Was ready to do this to Fluttershy to stop her from torturing herself further. Thankfully it ultimately isn't needed. She tricks Nihilis into thinking she intends to do it to her, but that wasn't her plan.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Has this reaction after coming dangerously close to killing Sweetie Belle in a fit of rage.
  • My Own Grampa: Is both the reincarnation of G2 Melody, and descended from her through her mother.
  • Neat Freak: Certainly. Sweetie Belle's aware of it, and remarks Rarity reacting this way to demon blood being on her carpet proves she's back to normal. Rarity rejects this, saying what proves it is her loving Sweetie Belle.
  • Non P.O.V. Protagonist: Is out of focus for much of the story and only once Mind Games! start does she get more attention again.
  • No-Sell:
    • Her Element armor lets her no sell Dragocord's brainwashing fire breath, due to Generosity beating greed.
    • In every timeline, she is immune to being turned into a true Nightmare. Nightmare Eclipse, who wanted a team of Nightmare-ified versions of all her friends, searched the multiverse for hundreds of millions of years trying to find a version of Rarity she could turn into a true Nightmare, and never succeeded. As detailed on the Fridge Brilliance page, this is because ponies become Nightmares when they give up all but one aspect of themselves, and Rarity's Element of Generosity/Greed/Desire prevents her from losing anything she wants to keep.
  • Parental Substitute: For two foals: both Sweetie Belle (because her parents keep dumping her on Rarity), and Diamond Tiara (which even becomes a VERY important plot point in the fic).
  • People Puppets: Used this on HERSELF to keep moving in the battle against Nightmare Whisper.
  • Promotion to Parent: With Sweetie Belle.
  • Reincarnation: Of Princess Rarity of G3 and by extension Melody of the Tales world. She doesn't actually know it, but it is the state of things.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Subverted: a Nightmare of her simply does not exist, the closest to it being false or incomplete Nightmares. This makes her perfect to go inside Diamond Tiara to free the Spirits of Dark Magic and purify her.
  • Support Party Member: Has traits of one. She's more than capable in a fight, but her Element of Generosity allows her to heal herself or others and after getting the armor for it, she can power up others with it, as she does with Trixie while fighting Dragocord and Applejack against Deercord to finish him off.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: Inverted, she is one of the few ponies who will instinctively resort to lethal force.
  • Tranquil Fury: It is very noticeable in her encounters with Cheerilee and Nightmare Whisper.
  • When All You Have Is a Hammer…: Her telekinesis is her main ability, she gets a lot of mileage out of it.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Thanks to Discord's Mind Rape, she spent a few weeks with a phobia of gems that prevented her from working on her dresses. But she gets over this.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Her grasp of advanced magic might be lacking in comparison to Twilight, but her telekinesis is top-notch.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Gives Nightmare Nhilis one of these speeches in her soul...and then turns and gives Discord one as well.

    Spoiler Character

Rarity Belle II

Rarity's Reincarnation created after her Heroic Sacrifice.

  • Official Couple: The Distant Finale shows her and Spike become this.
  • Reincarnation: Celestia states she can be considered Rarity's, as she was made from her body, another Rarity's Shadow of Existence, and Princess Rarity's Light of Existence removed from Pinkie Pie. This comes in handy, as having some Past-Life Memories allows her to counter Paxphobia's Devil Blade Serpents attack, though said memories are not ones she's consciously aware of.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Defied: those who know what she really is know that she's not a replacement for Rarity, but her own individual, something she herself is aware of. Her personality is also slightly more energetic than before and a bit more physically inclined.
  • Toon Physics: Due to her Light having been inside Pinkie Pie, she inherits a limited version of this.
  • Walking Spoiler: Her entire existence. Even most characters in universe are unaware of it.

    Fluttershy

Fluttershy / Princess Gaia

Voiced by Mewsel

The Bearer of Kindness.

  • Action Girl:
    • Subverted. Unlike the others, Fluttershy is not one for action. She said it herself during the Wedding arc that she's a healer, not a warrior. When she needs to fight, she normally lets Fluttercruel take the steering wheel. Of course, she is living proof that one can kick ass without fighting (see Badass Pacifist).
    • Ironically, the only times she ever was somewhere close to physical was when she was the bad guy. Of note, as Nightmare Whisper she used glass shards shaped like butterflies to attack her friends as well as weaponizing the despair she was carrying, and as "New Fluttershy", she headbutted Twilight after she tried a memory spell. This may be part of the reason why Fluttershy is so intent in being a healer and not a warrior. She does prove capable of combat when she reawakens Gaia's power, but still keeps a focus on non-lethal combat.
  • Afraid of Their Own Strength: This is Fluttershy's situation regarding her leftover power from the Princess Gaia incident, which was indirectly revealed in Mind Games to be do to the fact she's an alicorn now. Her power was limited to her butterfly so that she can be trained to use it properly and responsibly. She is constantly afraid of her new power, as well as using it period, because she knows that she wouldn't stop and would repeat her actions as Nightmare Whisper. The only known usage of her power shown was the scenes with the butterfly giving dreams to those dying without anyone at their side at the hospital, until the finale arc where she awakens it to help combat Discord and Nightmare Diamond.
  • Already Done for You: Fluttershy is already purified when the CMC visit her pocket reality during Rumors. The challenge of the chapter is a duel boss against Truffle and Tootsie.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: According to Word of God, her Alicorn self represents Organic Life and Mercy.
  • Ascended to a Higher Plane of Existence: In the Dark World, she winds up becoming The Queen of Cups. Unfortunately, due to having become one improperly, she burns through her mana reserves extremely quickly.
  • The Atoner:
    • After reverting from Nightmare Whisper. She even outright says there are things she'll never forgive herself for.
    • Deconstructed as well, as she gets so depressed, she nearly allows herself to be raped by some ponies her actions harmed as repentance, only being saved by Coffee Swirl. He manages to convince her she's taking it too far and it won't settle anything. Though this is Loose Canon, the events have been mentioned vaguely.
  • Badass Pacifist:
    • Is a genuine pacifist and doesn't want to harm anyone, but is quite a capable combatant via defensive tactics.
    • Subverted when she was Nightmare Whisper, as she was willing to hurt friends, but most definitely not kill them.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: She kept Nightmare Whispter's Lotus-Eater Machine fog in her purified Alicorn form, but is decidedly a good guy.
  • Be All My Sins Remembered: After her stint as a Big Bad, she outright says she'll let everypony judge her for the right and wrong she did, she knows she deserves it either way. And they have been, some ponies adore her, some hate her, and she's willing to live with it. She manages to gradually earn other's trust back with her good deeds.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: As always and even more so.
  • Break the Cutie: She is the only one Discord fails to do this so but later Fluttercruel accidentally succeeds where her father failed.
  • Can't Hold Her Liquor: Due to rarely drinking, just a sip of anything with salt in it is enough to get her buzzed. Getting completely drunk thanks to Fluttercruel has a hoof in her going insane and turning into Princess Gaia/Nightmare Whisper.
  • Clones Are People, Too: Feels this way about Fluttercruel. She eventually convinces her to feel the same.
  • Composite Character: She's the fusion of Posey (G1) and Zipzee (G3).
  • Deadly Dodging: Utilizes this when trying to confront Chrysailis in the throne room.
  • Death Glare: The Stare.
  • Deity of Human Origin: The Elements of Harmony didn't reverse her transformation in a Nightmare so much as complete her Alicornification, which becoming a Nightmare is an 'incomplete' version of. This makes her the first known Alicorn (though she's not assumed her true Alicorn form yet and seems afraid of the power) to have been born a mortal (instead of going through a period as an Amnesiac God after being one) but became an Alicorn. However, due to how she became one, her mana reserves are far too low to properly sustain her Alicorn form.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: She adopts Fluttercruel after being able to overpower her.
  • Defensive Feint Trap: Griffcord tries to cow her with sand illusions of her bullies mocking her. She seems to fall for it...until she reveals she was faking to lure him in so she could trap him with vines and hit him with his own weapon.
  • Determinator:
    • Surprisingly, Fluttershy is very determined in seeing that citizens of Sunnytown are finally free of their curse despite that Princess Luna, Fluttercruel, Zecora and even Mitta thought it was a hopeless cause.
    • Fluttercruel is actually scared of Fluttershy's determination.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Neither Fluttershy nor Fluttercruel expected Thunderchild to be so receptive towards the fact they are two beings in one body, Fluttershy being Princess Gaia and Fluttercruel technically being Discord's daughter.
  • Dramatic Irony/Internal Reveal:
    • The readers knew before the Mane 5 (and Trixie) that Fluttershy became Nightmare Whisper
    • During the beginnnings of the Wedding arc, Fluttershy isn't sure if her friends are aware that the game the played during Gaia arc was actually real.Rainbow Dash revealed that they did, but decided not to tell Fluttershy about it.
    • It is confirmed in the Finale Arc (and technically the end of Mind Games arc) that Fluttershy became an alicorn after the Elements of Harmony defeated her Nightmare form, though none of friends knows about this. The only exceptions are Pinkie Pie, because, well she's Pinkie (The note she anonymously gave to Fluttershy instructed her to use "Gaia's power" to prevent Golden Tiara/Screwball from getting erased.) Applejack might have putted the pieces together (during her story, AJ's Dreams, her trip through the Truth and stopping her potential nightmare self, AJ was stated to not be surprised that her nightmare was turned into a little alicorn after being purified by the elments of Harmony). Twilight, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash gotten hints throughout about what Fluttershy became, but they did not put the pieces together (Rarity might've been the closest when she and Fluttershy had the talk during "Read it and Cry" chapter, but even then she dismissed the thougt for now.)
    • In the recent chapter, Battle of the Puppeteers, Fluttershy unlocked her true form, revealing it to her friends to defeat one of Discord and Nightmare!Diamond's attacks. But for the audience, it was something that was a long time coming.
  • Dream Weaver: As Princess Gaia/Nightmare Whisper, she gave this to the ponies in her fog to let their greatest dreams come true. And according to Nurse Redheart's "Butterflies" story, it is implied/assumed that Fluttershy does this as a monarch butterfly,(which Fluttercruel refers to as "Our Butterfly") to dying patients who have no loved ones or loved ones who are simply not in the area.
  • Don't Call Me "Sir":
    • Ever since the Pearls story arc, many fans and supporters of Fluttershy continued to call her Princess Gaia or Her Kindesty. Fluttershy hates this since it brings bad memories of her time as the Big Bad. Though it is odd since Fluttershy isn't actually a Princess or even an alicorn Or so the general public thought.
    • Even during the Wedding arc, Fluttershy still hates the name. [[spoiler:Thoughit seems near the end that she's slightly getting used to it, if her comments
  • Foreshadowing: Throughout the series, there was some hints that while Nightmare Whisper is gone for good, Princess Gaia is not.
    • Even after the Pearls arc, Celestia still tends to refer to Fluttershy as Princess Gaia. When she is admonished by Rarity and Rainbow Dash (when Dash untactfully tells her how she would feel if people called Luna Nightmare Moon), Celestia angrily tells them there is a difference between Princess Gaia and Nightmare Whisper.
    • It is revealed in the events before Wedding Arc that Fluttershy had been practicing fighting techniques for pacifists.Guess what happened when the group storms the hall to Queen Chrysalis's throne?
  • Friend to All Living Things: She's Fluttershy, what would you expect? Even as Nightmare Whisper, she was ultimately driven by wanting to make everypony safe and happy rather than any malicious intent, and is noted as one of the only Nightmares or potential Nightmares that outright refused to kill even accidentally.
  • Fallen Hero: As Princess Gaia/Nightmare Whisper. She gets better.
  • Face–Heel Turn: When she becomes Princess Gaia. She gets better.
  • Good Is Not Dumb: She is a lot smarter and tougher then Fluttercruel thinks at the beginning.
  • Good Parents: Tries her hardest to be this to Fluttercruel, and generally succeeds.
  • Grew a Spine: This is what she learns from Fluttercruel and her responsibilities towards her daughter.
  • Heroic BSoD: After reverting from Nightmare Whisper, she refuses to defend herself at all against ponies attacking her for revenge for her actions to the point she almost allowed herself to be raped by several ponies before Coffee Swirl saved her. He manages to break her out of it with a What the Hell, Hero?.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: As both Nightmare Whisper and herself afterwards, Fluttershy was willing to shoulder all the pain and suffering in Equestria so that nopony else had to feel it. Nightmare Whisper admitted that the burden had killed her twice already. Ultimately subverted, as her friends were able to convince Fluttershy that it was better to release suffering back into the world, rather than numbing everypony to it.
  • Instant Fan Club: After Princess Gaia's rule, Fluttershy results in getting a sizable following due to how much it healed many ponies. Her popularity as a fashion model not withstanding.
  • Lotus-Eater Machine: One of her main powers as Princess Gaia. She keeps it after being purified, and uses it to trap Griffoncord, one of Discord's detachments, in a dream world.
  • Magic Eater: Because Fluttershy became an Alicorn by first becoming a Nightmare and then healed by the Elements of Harmony, it left her Alicorn form become a mana guzzler, as she is not yet properly ascended. Thus, she only has her mortal mana pool. When it runs out of magic, she reverts to her mortal form until her mortal mana pool recharges.
  • Mama Bear: As usual, but especially towards her "daughter" Fluttercruel. Subverted later when she becomes so caught up in her "New Fluttershy" persona that she gives her a Hannibal Lecture as well, which she's extremely guilty for afterwards.
  • Marionette Master:
    • In the Gaia arc, Nightmare Whisper used puppets as construction workers for her small park. After her defeat, they stopped, the magic powering them gone. Its unknown exactly as to what happened to these puppets.
    • In the final battle, after unlocking the seal on her (true!) Princess Gaia powers, she uses a technique called "GAIA'S JŌRURI PUPPETS", in which she summons marionettes (with magical puppet strings) based on the likeness of the previous pony generations, who utterly destroy the regenerating statues and shrubbery (and emotion shadows, based on the likeness of Diamond's former self) and then suck them up in a black void inside the puppets. Gaia then sends her puppets back from where they summoned so that Discord cannot reach the statues again.
  • Modest Royalty: Even when she was Nightmare Whisper, she was still humble Fluttershy. After, while she'll still let people see her as Princess Gaia and genuinely is now, even after removing her Power Limiter she prefers being called Fluttershy to Princess Gaia and her personality hasn't changed at all.
  • My God, What Have I Done?:
    • Well more like My God, What Did I Nearly Do? but she has this reaction to realizing that her actions as Nightmare Whisper nearly killed forty-two million unborn foals. Even after she's told she did't, she needs a bit more consoling to recover from it.
    • During New Game Plus story she has this when she her assertiveness training goes to far, the events which was worse than it was in the Heart World.
  • Nature Hero: Like her canon counterpart. More so after unlocking her true power.
  • "No More Holding Back" Speech: In the Wedding Arc Queen's Last Performance chapter, she tells Chrysalis about how she tried to bottle up her anger and assertiveness, only for it to back fire later on.
  • Non P.O.V. Protagonist: Doesn't get any first-person sections until she becomes Nightmare Whisper.
  • Not Quite Back to Normal: AJ's Dream part 1 chapter reveals that Fluttershy still has some of Nightmare Whisper's/Princess Gaia power, even though the Elements cured her. Seeing the story's villain, Applejack's nightmare, become an alicorn as well as many hints in the Pearls/Gaia arc and elsewhere in the series shows that its more than that. She eventually confirms this when she transforms to fight in the Final Battle.
  • Old Shame: In-universe; the chapter Under the Stars part 1, Fluttershy tells the interviewers how embarrassed she is of how she used to take her parent's lessons of politeness and kindness too far.
  • Out of Focus:
    • In a way, as she's about the only character to not really get a first person chapter, but on the other hoof, that makes sense considering personality, and she has gotten tons of focus otherwise.
    • And massive character growth during the Princess Gaia arc…along with an interview in that form.
  • Oxymoronic Being: An Alicorn Sharing a Body with a Demi-Draconequus, the polar opposite on the chaotic/lawful spectrum. Also a benefit, as it makes her blood toxic to the Pain Monsters sealed in Tartarus.
  • Physical Goddess:
    • Became one when she turned into Nightmare Whisper. It's been implied she may somehow still have access to the power even after her defeat, but is afraid to use it. It's later confirmed that the Elements don't revert a Nightmare to pony form, but complete the Alicornification, Fluttershy just instinctively reverts to her normal form as opposed to her Alicorn one.
    • During the final battle with Discord and Nightmare!Diamon Tiara, Fluttershy unlocks the seal on her powers to destroy their endlessly regenerating statues and hedge monsters, and them sucking them into her void, presumably her dimension. This also marks where her friends finally see what she had truly become.
    • The most recent chapter explains further her current situation. The side effects of Fluttershy being healed by the Elements of Harmony after her Nightmarification is that she is now an unborn goddess, in comparison to Fluttercruel who is a baby demigoddess. Her powers are essentially limited by her mortal capacity of magic (or mana pool, as described.). This is due to the fact that she has not been enlightened yet, and thus her alicorn form is essentially a mana guzzler.
  • Power Limiter: After being purified by the Elements and being completed as an Alicorn, her Alicorn power is sealed in her Butterfly, restricting her to normal pegasus level power. She unlocks the limiter during the Final Battle when it becomes apparent she has no other choice.
  • Remember When You Blew Up The Sun: Gets both a good and bad version for being Princess Gaia/Nightmare Whisper. Some remember her for healing them of their Discord-inflicted mental damage, while others hate her for trying to take over the world and brainwashing them.
  • Secret-Keeper: Fluttershy became this trope as a result of absorbing nearly all of Equestria's suffering as Nightmare Whisper, discovering everybody's inner turmoil, worries and tragedies.
  • Shapeshifter Default Form: The Interviewers reveal that the Elements essentially completed her Alicorn transformation, but she instinctively reverted to her mortal form after being defeated, and sealed her power in her Butterfly. This is undone after she unlocks her power again during the Final Battle.
  • Shrinking Violet: Fluttershy definitely starts out like this but slowly becomes more assertive over time.
  • Split-Personality Merge: No, not with Fluttercruel. Flutterrage is a separate personality who Shy kept alienated from her main one since she was a filly. In her section of "Butterflies" she learns to accept she needs anger and they fuse back together.
  • Stay with Me Until I Die: Invoked; it's implied (or assumed) that she takes the form of a monarch butterfly to comfort the sick and dying who don't have anyone to visit them.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Princess Gaia/Nightmare Whisper. At present, the only one to transform into this in the main Pony POV Series timeline. Subverted when she becomes the true Princess Gaia during the final battle, as while her friends fear this is the case she's in complete control.
  • Sharing a Body: With Fluttercruel.
  • Super Mode: In practice, her Alicorn form is more of this, as she lacks the mana pool to make it a permanent transformation and has to switch in and out of it.
  • Tarot Motifs: Queen of Cups, making her the only Alicorn thus far based on the Minor Arcana instead of the Major Arcana.
  • Tears of Joy: Fluttershy cries this when she saw that Celestia was still willing to help her after all she has done as Nightmare Whisper.
  • Troubled Toybreaker: When Fluttershy goes inside her own mind with Fluttercruel, she enters a part of her mind that looks like a Cloudsdale nursery. Its floor is covered in abused toys, including a shredded plush of Discord and a stuffed Rainbow Dash with its head torn off. This room is the prison for Flutterrage, a repressed part of Fluttershy's personality that represents her bottled-up anger, including her angry feelings from when the animals at the Gala ran away from her, and from when Rainbow Dash let her fall off a cloud during the race at flight camp.
  • Two Beings, One Body:
    • While initially simply being two spirits in one body, after some help from Princess Celestia, it becomes more like this. When Fluttershy is in control, there's no different, but when Fluttercruel is in control their body changes to look like what Fluttercruel does in the mental plain.
    • The Finale saga results with Fluttercruel gaining an (baby) body of her own during the Rumors arc. And it's permanent, but more complicated: they still share a body but Fluttercruel can now create avatars for herself to inhabit.
  • Winged Unicorn: Becomes one as Nightmare Whisper, though a monstrous one. She becomes a true Alicorn after being purified, but doesn't physically assume the form until the Final Battle.

    Spike
Voiced by: Lightning

A young dragon, and Twilight Sparkle's No. 1 assistant.

  • Adaptational Badass: Manages to burn a part of the Smooze after the journey through time with the CMC. Being able to survive alongside them likely qualifies as well.
  • Adorably Precocious Child: Only on the outside; his mind is much further developed then his appearance shows. Of course a part of this is the fact that dragons simply age differently than ponies.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: How he beats Dragocord: he asks him what he wants. Dragocord can't answer, and due to being a dragon and Discord's greed, it causes him to shrink down to stallion size. Discord then reabsorbs him before he can let a Freudian Slip out.
  • Big Brother Mentor: He may be a baby dragon, but he acts like this towards the Cutie Mark Crusaders. Ironically, he's actually younger than they are.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Is brainwashed by Queen Chrysalis during the Wedding Arc until freed by the CMC.
  • Character Development:
    • Finally got some after realizing his status as a satellite character and building a friendship with the CMC and Silver Spoon.
    • He's able to control his adult form the second time when Dragocord transforms him into it due to The Power of Friendship.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He must have gotten it from Twilight.
  • Greed: One of his flaws, according to him Rarity was acting as a memory spell that brought him back to his senses. Justified, as he's a dragon and its a racial trait. He manages to control it when Dragocord makes him greed growth by focusing on his desire for his loved ones.
  • Heroic Lineage: Comes from a long line of heroic dragons, the first of which predates Ponykind as a sapient species.
  • Irony: Spike thought he knew what it was like to be treated as a magical fax machine... until brainwashed by Queen Chrysalis, where he is treated as an automaton (or brainwashed Sweetie Belle's dance partner).
  • Jerkass: Is a bit mean towards Trixie when she's staying with Twilight at first. But he gets better as he gets to know her.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: And the jerk part is vanishing further and further.
  • Large Ham: Acts like this from time to time for example when he tried to return Smartypants to Twilight like a Knight in Shining Armor.
  • Legacy Character: According to Word of God, he's the descendant of the G1 Spike. And it's also revealed that the Reincarnation of the G3 one is his ancestor as well. Not only that, every member of his family has essentially been partners with the world's heroes' of that age. Spike the Fifth even fights Discord one on one and managed to outmatch him in physical combat. Twilight telling him about this linage averts the events of "Dragon Quest" by giving him a family line he's proud of (the interviewers plan to give him Peewee anyway). He was unaware of this until Twilight told him. It turns out the original Heathspike was a contemporary of the Moonchick and the chosen bearer of the Rainbow of Darkness until his death fighting Smaug to a Mutual Kill, as well as the original noble dragon.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Has a mild one in reaction to making Silver Spoon break down crying with his What the Hell, Hero?.
  • Out of Focus: The focus of his POV tale is correcting it. He succeeds.
  • The Power of Friendship: The reason Dragocord's attempt to make him go berserk as Spikezilla blows up in his face: the thing Spike wants the most is his friends, so rather than helping him, Spike proceeds to start beating him up.
  • Precocious Crush: On Rarity, seeing as he's actually younger than Applebloom is. Another problem is that as a dragon he ages much slower and Truth showed that Rarity would die from old age while he could still live on for hundreds of years. The only way the two can actually be together would be if Rarity becomes an Alicorn as she did in Dark World.
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: Has learned to do this from Apple Bloom. He complains that it makes his eyes hurt.
  • Straight Man: More often than not is this to others, though learning to relax and have fun like a child should is part of his character development.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: The Dark World finally revealed one: Nightmare Banneret, The Beautiful Fury Of the Generous Green Flames.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Twilight and Rarity but he is still willing to stand up to Twilight if he thinks that it is for her own good.
  • Unwilling Robotization: Done during the Rumors when he's trapped in the Researcher Twilight Rumor. The CMC break him free and return him to normal.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Gives one to Silver Spoon for being too hard on Twilight. Apple Bloom then calls him out for being too hard on her, pointing out two wrongs don't make a right.
  • You Are Not Alone: Invokes this to free Twilight from Discord's endgame.

    Trixie

Trixie Mid-summernight (The One And Only Trixie) / Cobweb

Voiced by: Mewsel

  • Abusive Parents: Subverted, as they clearly love her.
  • Action Girl: Was there ever any doubt? While at first she wasn't nearly as much of one as the Mane Six, she grows into being an equal to them.
  • Alone in a Crowd: How Discord broke her. He made it so, from her perspective, it seemed nopony could even tell she existed. Of note, he did this to "warm up" for breaking Twilight.
  • Anti-Hero: Is much more willing to use underhanded tactics and threats in battle than the rest of the mane six, but isn't any less heroic.
  • Berserk Button: Saying bad things about her family tends to tick her off. As is calling her "half-dirt" (a Fantastic Slur used against unicorns who are part-earth pony).
  • Big Damn Heroes: Comes to Cadence's aid during a fight with a Brainwashed and Crazy Twilight, foiling Chrysalis' attempt to get either Twilight or Cadence to be forced to kill the other.
  • Break the Cutie:
    • Because of Discord, to the point she's still Discorded long after his defeat!
    • Happens again during the Wedding thanks to Chrysalis via a brainwashed Twilight. She snapped out of it when she realized how out of character Twilight acted.
  • The Bus Came Back: Briefly in 'Retcon-Struction Blues', when Twilight visits her. She later reappears in 'Under the Stars' and takes part in the Wedding Arc, then the Final Battle.
  • Care-Bear Stare: During the battle against Princess Gaia/Nightmare Whisper, Twilight's attempt to use the Memory Spell on Whisper backfires and forces her to feel the combined emotional pain and grief that has been absorbed from everypony by Whisper herself. Trixie saves her with the same Memory Spell, reminding her of everything she has that's worth fighting for and saving her from sinking into despair.
  • The Chosen One: She always wanted to be special and set herself apart from her siblings, but never realized that she was an Element of Magic. According to Discord, only one or two unicorns with the potential to become the Element of Magic are ever born in a single generation.
  • Combat Pragmatist: She is not above fighting dirty against her enemies, even after her Heel–Face Turn.
  • Commuting on a Bus: She lives in another town, so she has to go back and forth and isn't present all the time.
  • Condescending Compassion: Does this to herself via a nightmare of Twilight blowing her away at her own game of stage magic then giving her a lecture of this sort.
  • Consummate Liar: If she brings her A-game, she can lie very convincingly. She even managed to fool everyone, including Discord and Nihilis, to implement Rarity's plan to save Diamond Tiara.
    • As seen in the Dark World arc, one of her alternate selves became the Concept of Trickery.
  • Dad the Veteran: Her father's a former royal guard.
  • Deity of Human Origin: In one of the Dark World timelines, Cadance manages to turn her into an Alicorn. She represents the Knight of Wands. In a similar timeline, Alicorn!Trixie even manages to permanently wound Nightmare!Twilight!
  • Deadpan Snarker: Even more than some of her friends.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: She slowly opened up to Twilight and her friends and shows her kinder side.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Discord gave her a Breaking Speech convincing her that her talent of stage magic was worthless and that she would never be anything special no matter how hard she tried, and made her perceive that nopony anywhere even noticed she existed. She broke so hard that even after Discord was defeated and everypony else was restored to sanity, she stayed Discorded and grey. Twilight has to go directly into her mind in order to heal her.
  • Family Theme Naming: Trixie's sisters are named Mixie, Pixie, Nyxie and Lexy. She initially resents her parents for this, as it was another thing that made her feel not unique.
  • Guile Heroine:
    • Her showpony skills come in handy for this, given it lets her use misdirection and lies that the others wouldn't come up with.
    • She realized somepony was trying to get rid of her during the Wedding Arc and assumed a disguise named Cobweb so she could hide while still helping the others until she finally revealed herself to save Twilight.
  • Guest-Star Party Member:
    • This trope describes her role in the story better than Sixth Ranger, since she drops off the radar immediately after the Gaia arc.
    • However, The Bus Came Back for the Wedding Arc, with her returning to take part, even being on the cover, and staying into the Finale Arc.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Makes hers far earlier than she did in canon, as Twilight redeems her shortly after Discord's defeat.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: During the Wedding. She figures out that Twilight's Breaking Lecture was out of character and the only logical explanation was either Twilight was trying to Break Her Heart to Save Her or was being forced to hurt her. She disguises herself as a unicorn named Cobweb and joins up with the others until she had the opening to reveal herself and save Twilight.
  • I Have Your Wife: She uses this tactic against Knight Cheerilee.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Her primary reason for putting up a Hidden Heart of Gold-hiding facade. She wanted to be special, but couldn't excel at anything. Having a lot of siblings didn't help matters. Ironically, this was holding her back, as accepting friendship lets her awaken her Element of Magic properly and grow into a much better and stronger person.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Her response to finding out she's doing a magic show for Princess Gaia's celebration is to grab some sake with salt mixed into it and get very drunk.
  • It's All About Me: She eventually outgrew that phase, but she did only care for herself for a while.
  • Large Ham: She wouldn't be Trixie if she wasn't one of these.
  • Master of Illusion: Trixie's capacity for illusionary magic is pretty impressive. She particularly shows this against Deercord.
  • Master of None: Her Freudian Excuse, and related to her issue of I Just Want to Be Special. Her teacher tries to encourage her that she has a lot of potential, and that most unicorns tend to fail in all else if they excelled in anything else, but she's most upset about being average. She grows out of this mindset.
  • Meaningful Rename: Going from the "Great and Powerful" Trixie to the "One And Only" Trixie.
  • Mega Manning: As an Element Of Magic, she has this just like Twilight does. According to Word of God, her versions are slightly weaker, but also less mana consuming.
  • Miles Gloriosus: The Great and Powerful Trixie. But later on she becomes a very useful ally against Princess Gaia.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Her reaction to realizing her plan to split up and free Celestia and Chrysalis' brainwashed slaves at the same time only served to lead the group into both of Chrysalis' traps.
  • Put on the Bus: Leaves the story shortly after the Gaia Festival, but returns in the Wedding and Finale.
  • Redemption Promotion:
    • Is a lot stronger and more effective as a heroine than a villain. She's also revealed to be an Element Of Magic and manages to awaken and put it to good use.
    • During the Wedding, she manages to fight Twilight to a standstill and actually restrain her long enough for her and Cadence can free her.
    • She's able to fight Nightmare Nihilis well and hard enough to impersonate a super charged Twilight Sparkle. A lot of it was smoke and mirrors, but she did so convincingly enough to fool her and Discord long enough for Rarity's plan to be implemented.
  • Reincarnation: Of G1 Magic Star and G3 Abra-ca-dabra (who was herself a reincarnation of an unknown Tales era foal who's mother was in the mane seven's class and wanted to make friends but never got the guts to approach others). Interestingly enough, she also seems to have the Shadow of the Alicorn Amulet's consciousness in the mix that Magic Star's shadow was wearing at the time.
  • Robe and Wizard Hat: It is all she wears. It's implied her love of these stemmed from Abra-ca-dabra's witch Halloweeen Costume.
  • Shock and Awe: Is partial to electrical attacks in combat. She gets very good and clever with it.
  • Sixth Ranger: Becomes the seventh member of the Mane Six.
  • Spam Attack: Her Element of Magic spell-copying gives her weaker, but much more efficient versions of the spells she copies. As a result, she can spam her spells more rapidly than Twilight or Sunset can.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Initially. Her Element of Magic is also this: her copied spells are weaker, but much more mana-efficient and thus capable to be utilized more frequently and practically.
  • World's Strongest Man: Briefly becomes this when used as the focus to send the potential Elements of Harmony of all of Equestria to the Mane Six to destroy Paxphobia once and for all, explicitly being the most powerful unicorn to ever exist for that brief moment.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: After the Ursa Minor incident, she had become a joke and was laughed and jeered offstage everywhere she tried to perform. Then Discord appeared to her in the form of a talking magic wand and gave her a scroll with magic spells that he promised would dazzle everypony. She performed them beautifully on stage in front of a massive crowd...only for them to be completely indifferent to it, calling it boring and nothing amazing, and then Discord gave her a Breaking Speech telling her to just give up on being a magician because she would never be special.

    Fluttercruel
Voiced by Mewsel

Fluttershy's "daughter" through Discord's actions.

  • Action Girl: Thanks to self defense books and having less restraints then Fluttershy, she is one.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Apparently why she developed a crush on Iron Will, though even after finding out he has a nice side she's still attracted to her. It doesn't go anywhere (he leaves before she can ask him on a date). Could also count as Precocious Crush, considering she's still mentally a foal and only a year old, even if she's fairly intelligent.
  • Ambiguously Human: While the body she shares with Fluttershy is pure pony, it's unclear whether Fluttercruel herself is this or a Pony/Draconequus Hybrid. While she earned a Cutie Mark and looks like a Pony for the most part, she has slightly Hellish Pupils and Cute Little Fangs. Her Dark World self also implies she's technically a Demi Draconequus and possibly inherited some traits from her father. After Rumors, she's basically become a full hybrid.
  • Anti-Hero: She's genuinely good now, but she was also born to be cruelty incarnate and thus is considerably more aggressive and plays way dirtier than her fellow Mane Six. She's literally made from Discord's Cruelty, so this is logical.
  • Archnemesis Dad: With Discord, as she actively hates him despite him technically being her father. She actively refuses his attempts to make her like him.
  • The Atoner: Fights her way back from the afterlife and nearly performs a Heroic Sacrifice out of guilt for causing Fluttershy's Face–Heel Turn in the first place.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Is the one who changes the battle against Nightmare Whisper in favour of the heroes.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: Well, for one, that she likes hamburgers, which most of Ponyville (and ponies in general) considers extremely strange. In addition, she loves extremely bitter foods, which includes having Coffee Swirl make her as bitter coffee as he can.
  • Break the Cutie: In "New Game Plus" when New Fluttershy lets her have a Hannibal Lecture, along with her own guilt over the incident.
  • Break the Haughty: The Princess Gaia Arc pretty much did this. It turned out for the best, given she becomes a far better pony as a result.
  • Brick Joke: She still wants that hamburger. Too bad she ate a veggieburger and Fluttershy ate the hamburger instead.
  • Cain and Abel: She is the Cain to Fluttershy's Abel, at least at first. Though it became the other way around when Fluttershy makes her Face–Heel Turn.
  • Calling Parents by Their Name: Prior to her Heel–Face Turn and character development, she refers to Fluttershy by her name and various insulting nicknames. Once she's turned herself around and come to accept Fluttershy as her mother, she drops this.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Not directly but she doesn't have any higher opinion about her father compared to anybody else. In short: She thinks Discord is a monster. She actually does call him out when they actually meet face to face and mentioned she had the idea of relieving herself on his statue after defeating him to 'show him how she really feels about him'.
  • Can't Hold Her Liquor: Due to Sharing a Body with Fluttershy, she can't drink much without getting drunk.
  • Child by Rape:
    • Discord's Mind Rape is described extremely close to actual rape, and that's how Fluttercruel was "born"...
    • Several chapters imply she's at least partially aware of this, and not very happy about it.
  • Clone Angst: While not a "clone" so to speak, it still causes her a bit of pain that she's a "copy" of Fluttershy. Fluttershy eventually convinces her that Clones Are People, Too.
  • Clones Are People, Too: Eventually comes to believe this, thanks to Fluttershy. Of note, when Luna brings up the possibility Fluttercruel may simply be a Mind Raped Fluttershy and "Fluttershy" is the clone, created by Twilight's Memory Spell, Fluttercruel responds by saying that it doesn't matter, they're both real. Celestia also later confirms that she has her own soul, separate from Fluttershy's, as well.
  • Combat Pragmatist: During a fight with the Changelings, she has no qualms about nailing one with a Groin Attack.
  • Covered with Scars: Following her escaping Oblivion or wherever she was to save her mother when she was Nightmare Whisper, she's covered in scars from the event.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: In-Universe, this is her reason for finding her various Grimdark fanfic inspired dreams funny; they're so outlandish and ridiculous that they become funny...to her. Twilight and Fluttershy both find them disgusting.
  • Cruel to Be Kind: Starts becoming this after her Heel–Face Turn. Is ultimately revealed to pretty much be this incarnate.
  • Cute Bruiser:
    • Despite Sharing a Body with Fluttershy, she's noted as being physically stronger than her (likely because she's less reserved than Fluttershy), and studied self defense books. She also broke one of the interviewers' nose for asking a question she found offensive.
    • Case in point, Roid Rage made Fluttershy, and Fluttercruel, angry with some insensitive comments about the mental patients at the asylum and Fluttershy for being Princess Gaia. Fluttershy held Fluttercruel back to protect him from her!
    • We finally see her fight in the Wedding Arc, and she proves a good fighter.
    • Her becoming a true demigoddess gave her Super-Strength, making her even more this trope.
  • Cute Little Fangs: The illustrations for the audio adaptation depict her with these.
  • Dark Is Not Evil:
    • Fluttershy realized that despite being Discord's "daughter" and spawned from his evil magic (and literally his cruelty at that), that didn't make her evil. She proves this by eventually becoming an Element of Kindness!
    • While not clear, most of her alternate selves have Cruelty as their Special Talent. While that may not be the case (as her Cutie Mark does nothing to suggest it), she does have a natural predisposition towards aggression and cruelty, but thanks to Fluttershy has managed to direct it towards constructive pursuits. She may also be a Demi-Goddess of Cruelty, especially post Rumors, but as her eventually reformed Dark World self shows that can also apply to surgery rather than just harming others.
  • Death Glare: Same as Fluttershy. Even in ghost form. However, she states in "New Game Plus" that she can't do it on demand either.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Started out as a Harmless Villain who Fluttershy defeated and decided to raise as her child.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: She slowly begins to care for Fluttershy and her opinions about Fluttershy's friends improve over time as well.
  • Didn't Think This Through: She tries to make Fluttershy understand the inherent cruelty of nature by showing her multiple examples of wild animals killing each other to survive, then gives her a "The Reason You Suck" Speech detailing why her kindness is not natural, as she helps the weak and injured to survive when nature would otherwise leave them to die. Except Fluttershy refuses to simply accept that suffering is part of nature, and decides that if the world is not fair, she will "make it fair." Which entails becoming a Nightmare and altering reality to make a utopia where nopony has to suffer, because she will take all their suffering into herself.
  • Divine Parentage: Her father is Discord, not that she's happy about it.
  • Escaped from Hell: Fights her way back from oblivion to take part in the final battle with Nightmare Whisper. She's got the scars to prove it too.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Her reaction to Fluttershy transforming into Princess Gaia/Nightmare Whisper.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Even before her Heel–Face Turn she is a lot less nightmarish then her Dark World counterpart.
  • Excrement Statement: States she wanted to relieve herself on Discord's statue if they petrified him in the final battle and is disappointed when she didn't get to.
  • Expy: To Ellen from El Goonish Shive. Both of them began their lives as copies of a main character, both of them initially believed that this origin made them worthless and acted hostile, violent and suicidal as a result. To their surprise however, both of them were excepted by the people they were copied from, who viewed them not as merely clones but as a member of their family, and eventually became a valued member of the cast.
  • The Fashionista: While she's not shown to care much about shopping, she loves modeling for Rarity and considers it her hobby, and wouldn't mind being in a fashion show.
  • Foil: To herself. The Epilogue version of her is a monster of the highest order, which serves to show just how much of one the real Fluttercruel isn't.
  • Girl with Psycho Weapon: In the audio adaptation, the reflected version of Fluttershy's room shown in the mirror with her has a battle ax and she goes to sleep hugging a sheathed sword like a teddy bear. This does not change the fact she looks like Fluttershy and her hugging said sword is strangely adorable.
  • Good Feels Good: She has fun being around her friends and no intentions to ever turn out like her counterpart of the Dark World.
  • Guilt Complex: Begins blaming herself for not only the entire Nightmare Whisper incident, but other problems Fluttershy gets herself into. It isn't until the rest of the mane six help her face her guilt that she gets over it.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Started out as a relatively Harmless Villain before being the Sixth Ranger.
  • Hellish Pupils: Downplayed example. The artist for the audio adaptation gave Fluttercruel slightly more snake-like pupils than Fluttershy to make her look more dangerous. They're not that noticeable, however.
  • Heroic Bastard: For obvious reasons, her parents weren't married when she was created and don't even have the canon Fluttershy and Discord's friendship let alone romantic interest (in fact this version of Discord has a Villainous Crush on Pinkie Pie). Doesn't stop her from being heroic though.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: She nearly does this to save Fluttershy, then Nightmare Whisper, knowing full well that using the Elements Of Harmony would destroy a being created from Disharmony like her. Fluttershy thankfully saves her.
  • Horrifying Hero: Downplayed, having a slightly more menacing appearance and being covered in scars from fighting out of wherever she as inside Nightmare Whisper makes her a bit intimidating, it's primarily being the daughter of Discord that makes her this trope to others. A bit more so after Rumors, where she can manifest her true nature in an Avatar that's got many Draconequus traits. Despite this, she's still heroic and part of the team.
  • Hypocritical Heartwarming: She's the only one who gets to hit Fluttershy where it hurts!
  • It's All My Fault: Blames herself for everything Fluttershy did. Celestia outright says that this is the reason she told only Fluttershy about what Nightmare Whisper's plan nearly caused in regards to all of Equestria's unborn foals, she blames herself for enough already. It isn't until "New Game Plus" that she's convinced to finally let go of this.
  • It's All About Me: She loves getting attention and hates it whenever somepony else is stealing her spotlight. She gets better, but is still somewhat selfish at times.
  • Jekyll & Hyde: The Hyde to Fluttershy's Jekyll. At first at least.
  • Jerkass: At first, before becoming a...
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She acts like a jerk, but after a little reconditioning, she becomes quite kindhearted.
  • Love Redeems: Well, a variation. It's in a large part thanks to Fluttershy's parental love and attention that Fluttercruel undergoes her Heel–Face Turn.
  • Made of Evil: Discord tries to convince her she's this, as he could only have made her from a bit of himself, meaning she's literally made from his cruelty (or rather half of her is). Subverted when Fluttershy points out that if Fluttercruel was really made from Discord's cruelty, it means Discord isn't as irredeemable as he likes to think he is if even his own cruelty incarnate can be redeemed.
  • Meaningful Name: She's a clone of Fluttershy and also cruel. Thus Fluttercruel.
  • Metamorphosis: Consuming a large number of the Rumors parasites to save Fluttershy during the Rumors Arc causes her to go from simply a grayed out Fluttershy with Cute Fangs and Hellish Pupils to her Demi-Draconequus nature becoming much more obvious with a bat wing, a lizard leg, and a lion's paw. This comes with the ability to make an Avatar to act independently of her mother and Super-Strength.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Her reaction when she realizes she triggered Fluttershy's Superpowered Evil Side.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
    • Her attempt to show Fluttershy the crueler parts of nature results in the Princess Gaia arc.
    • Later, she ends up causing this dimension's version of the New Fluttershy incident.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Her dreams are pretty much Grimdark fanfics. She finds them funny thanks to how unlikely they are to actually happen.
  • Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant: Well, for one, Cupcakes (Sergeant Sprinkles) and several other Grimdark stories were her dreams if that's any indication. Yes, dreams, not nightmares, dreams (though she doesn't really want them to happen or think they would, she just seems to genuinely enjoy stories like that). In the audio adaptation, her "world", apparently inside their head, is depicted as something you'd expect to find in a dungeon. She falls asleep hugging a sword (sheathed of course) like it's a doll!
  • Obliviously Evil: Before her Heel–Face Turn. It's pointed out that, while it doesn't excuse her actions (since she had Fluttershy's memories), she genuinely didn't know any better since Discord made her to be cruel. Thankfully, Fluttershy took the time to recondition her.
  • Original Character: Fluttercruel is the daughter of Fluttershy and Discord who was accidentally "born" when Discord tried to brainwash Fluttershy and instead created a being that shared her body.
  • Oxymoronic Being: A Demi-Draconequus, Discord's daughter born from his cruelty no less, but possesses an Element of Harmony, specifically Kindness. The fact she's Sharing a Body with an Alicorn who personifies Kindness and Mercy is likewise this trope, given the two are opposites on the Chaotic/Lawful spectrum of deity.
  • Scars Are Forever: She bears scars from fighting her way out of limbo to save Fluttershy, which appear both in her mental form and when she's in control of their body.
  • Semi-Divine: Is a Demi-Draconequus due to being Discord and Fluttershy's daughter in a way. She becomes a hybrid in every sense after Rumors.
  • Sharing a Body: With Fluttershy. Princess Celestia eventually allows them to switch at will and change how their body looks to match Fluttercruel. After the destruction of the Rumors, she gains the ability to project herself as a hybrid pony/draconequus infant, but still shares a body with Fluttershy most of the time.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: While most of them are Unusual Euphemisms, she cusses quite a bit, though Fluttershy does her best to curb this habit, especially if children are present.
  • Sixth Ranger: A unique case, as only Fluttershy knew she existed before "Pearl Necklace".
  • Super-Strength: Along with her new Avatar, she apparently gained this as a result of what happened during Rumors. Enough to smash through stone despite being a normally weaker Pegasus.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Manages to fight back against Flutterrage in the final confrontation.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She's a Cute Bruiser who reads self-defense books and is anything but a girly girl, but her hobby is modeling dresses for Rarity.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Dark, bitter foods, especially coffee, which does a good job of reflecting her darker, more cynical personality.
  • Two Beings, One Body:
    • While initially just mental, after some help from Celestia, their relationship becomes more like this, as when Fluttercruel takes over their body changes to one more suited to her than Fluttershy's.
    • In order to save Fluttershy from the rumors parasites in the Finale arc, Fluttercruel agrees to Dark World!Nightmare Whispers offer. In this, she had to eat the rumors to gain her own body, albeit that of a half Draconequus baby (her mind is still the same however). It was only possible in this case since she is part Draconequus, and thus it is natural for her to eat rumors. After the Rumors are destroyed, she gains the ability to project herself in her baby form, but is still one with Fluttershy.
