    The Black Label Society

Team as a Whole

  • Musical Theme Naming: Named after the Black Label Society
  • Government Agency of Fiction: 'Black Label Society' is disguised as an agency to sap government money.
  • Creature-Hunter Organization: Technically this, due to the teams intent to track Andromeda down, who seems to be an alien, as a payback for the information leak.
  • Recurring Element: The "designated villain team," once again, performs mostly poorly early on, relying only on the survival of a few key individuals. Time will tell if they go the way of Ultraviolet Underground or manage to rise from the ashes
  • Terrible Trio: In round 2, their number was reduced to only Adam, Scott, and thanks to a revival, Andrew, with the organization they worked for practically in shambles after the disappearance of Ricky and deaths of Varel, Zack, White Rabbit, and very likely Onkivulet. That said, these three are easily the most competent members of the group, and without being held back by Polaris.

Adam Daniels - 「The New Flesh」

  • Blood Magic: Adams Stand, [The New Flesh], can manipulate blood
  • Covered with Scars: Adam did this to himself
  • Feel No Pain: One of Adams 'special skills'
  • In-Series Nickname: Adam sees other humans as bags of blood. Since he is in a team of seven other humans, he refers to them as different 'blood' nicknames.
    • "Andrew" is 'Grey Blood'
    • Varel is 'Slime Vein'
    • Scott is 'Purple Blood'
    • Ricky is 'False Blood'
    • Zack is 'Cherry Blood'
      • Onkivulets and White Rabbits names are unknown

Andrew K. Lennox - 「Sweet Dreams」

  • Eye Motifs: [Sweet Dreams] has multiple eyes in its body, which also grant it a 360 degree vision. This is, however, also a weakness which keeps the movements of the stand imprecise... It takes quite a lot to mentally process all of that information, and damaging many of these eyes at once can prove seriously detrimental.
  • Handicapped Badass: Losing the usage of his legs in his first outing in the tourney wasn't enough to keep him from coming back for more. He seems to have regained some usage of them after round 4, even abandoning his wheelchair after his rematch with Gioia, but extremely shakily. He probably wasn't ready to actually get rid of the thing.
  • Mysterious Past: There's quite a lot he still has to accomplish, and quite a lot he won't discuss.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Can act friendly and cordial to his enemies, but also truly vicious at times as well.
  • The Leader: A much more effective one for the team than Varel ever was.
  • Secret Public Identity: Andrew arranged the eight members of 'Black Label Society' code names through a computer
    • "Andrew" is "Missionary Man"
    • Varel is "This Is the News"
    • Scott is "S-5"
    • Adam is "Doc"
    • Onkivulet is "Pu-239"
    • Zack is "Gnerk Skursson"
    • Ricky is "Spades"
      • The White Rabbits code name is unknown
  • Villain Respect: Though plenty of interpretations of the details are possible, he's definitely acknowledged the Fairy Fellers as worthy adversaries.

Onkivulet - 「Klaatu」

  • Healthcare Motivation: The reason to work for Varel in 'BLS' is due to a high amount of money he promised to her. She suffers from brain damage and needs medication. Ironically, the brain damaged one isn't the fighter who accidentally blew up a plane.

Ricky Nelson - 「Garden Party」

Scott Strange Summers - 「Suicide Solution」

Varel Teves Rot - 「Post American World」

  • Alternate Universe: Big Bad in his first appearance, and an Arch-Enemy to Jojos OC Tournament T 3's Sarah Williams, due to embodying all the tropes that Sarah hated and feared. Here, due to not being in a format where people are forced to humor him, he's much less successful in this universe.
    • Alternate Universes [Post American World] has the ability to cripple people mentally by taking away their most sentimental object/idea/person/thing from their mind through echoing lies that it implants into their head, to a point where they ignore anything that would prove the voices wrong. This allows it to strike to their most vulnerable place: their minds were irreversibly FUCKED by PAW.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: His run as the leader of BLS is disastrous, and in his sole battle he loses fairly handily to Prince Johnny before being killed by his own allies.
  • Blob Monster: His Stand has a slimy physique.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Seriously calls himself a "fucking social disease." In his match, though he planned on betraying him, he happily teamed up with the famously monstrous Haman's portrait. Even if he's not all he's cracked up to be, he knows he's bad news and revels in it.
  • Color Motif: Yellow has psychological meaning to it as the colour of pee, and black is typically associated with evil, which Varel thinks is wrong but he's just playing devil's advocate here, don't get offended. Additionally, Yellow and Black are the color of bees, foreshadowing the lawsuit against the human race that is dealing with him.
  • Destructive Romance: Varels relationship with his ex was not the most healthiest one. His ex is a cannibal from a cult with a God complex, and a healing Stand which could cause tumors to grow upon contact in an alarming speed (additionally, it could track people down by contacting their DNA). She attempted to eat their first born child alive, which prompted Varel to stop her and to send off the child away, while getting rid of anything that could be used to find the child. Few years later, he divorced her.
  • Dystopia: The Stands namesake is a reference to this state of America, and a song from Megadeths 'Dystopia' album.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Varel hates his ex wife, who is a cannibal AND a self proclaimed Goddess, but let's be real, since he still busted her out of imprisonment in the first place, he probably mainly hates her because she's Mexican.
  • Evil Mentor: Varel had a psychotherapy student under his guidance.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: He constantly has these under his eyes.
  • Eye Motifs: Eyes are a prominent insignia on his clothes. In his calling card, in his tie, and in his belt buckle.
  • Government Conspiracy: He is a leader of 'Polaris'. No one knows about this, except few selected individuals, and even fewer particularly care.
  • Musical Theme Naming: Named after Megadeth
  • Nebulous Evil Organisation: Varel has a deep connection to an evil paramilitary organization called 'Polaris', which was formed in 1980's as a military division to research alternatives to nuclear weaponry so that MAD would still be in place, but there would be other ways to gain supremacy over the eastern giants. Their operations were shut down in 2002 due to rising worry from US Government, putting an end to their plans. In 2010, Varel brought the organization back behind everyone's back, recruiting multiple previous patients of his, by utilizing [Post American World] as the front man, keeping his identity as a secret. Their goal is to mass produce technology that can reanimate the dead, until one day they would burn everything down with nuclear holocaust and mold their own society from the ashes
  • Non-Human Head: His Stand has a television monitor as a head
  • Number Two: Varel prefers highly his Stand to be the second in command, as it has always been. Varel himself is also this, but not in the trope sense.
  • Parental Abandonment: Due to his growing, disturbing tendencies when he was young, he ended up being outed by his parents out of paranoia and fear. He would then abandon his own child many years later by sending them away somewhere unknown (to not be eaten by his ex wife)
  • Power Vest: Varel wears two of them on top of each others
  • Punny Name: Trevor Valts > T.V. > Tele Vision
  • Significant Anagram: Varel Teves Rot > Trevor Valts, his Stand's more 'humane' name
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Hot shit he may think he is, it doesn't take long in action before it's shown that he's all talk. His teammates were not amused.
  • Stealth Expert: Due to his psychological experience and his past, Varel knows how to stealth extremely well in theory.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: He is NOT racist at all. His first wife was Mexican.
  • Teleportation: By spreading its purple slime against a surface, the Stand can teleport near the area. At first appearing as a static figure before completely looking like itself.
  • The Leader: Black Label Society's leading figure, a role at which he was so terrible that half of the team was wiped under his leadership before two of the remaining members killed him themselves.
  • The Team Benefactor: One of his few genuine saving graces for the team. With him out, the remaining half of the team had to struggle a bit to find their footing again.

White Rabbit - 「Alice is Dead」

Zack Bernett - 「Get Got」

    Castle Full'a Rascals

Team as a Whole

Andromeda: With all these hotbloods and coolheads running around, this team is an absolute madhouse!

Team Mars in the Urban Uprising ARG. The Castle Full’a Rascals formed under the unwilling leadership of the Stand abomination [Happyman on the Red Planet], who owns the souls of every resident of his teleporting castle La Villa Strangiato. They became involved in Urban Uprising on Happyman’s orders to find new “roommates” with powerful souls, and secretly find a way to escape his grasp.

Bizarrchitecture: La Villa Strangiato is a twisted, Escherian nightmare of an apartment building, built by Mr Nowhere Man’s Stand and bound to Happyman himself.

「Happyman on the Red Planet」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/happyman_6.png
So if you meet me/Have some courtesy/Have some sympathy, and some taste/Use all your well-learned politesse/Or I'll lay your soul to waste (art by Sly-Koopa)

The user-less Stand bound to La Villa Strangiato and the now former owner of the Castle Full’a Rascals’ souls.

  • Deal with the Devil: Happyman can bind people’s souls to him in the form of physical contracts.
  • Faux Affably Evil: While he presents himself as a “businessman”, he’s really a selfish monster who has no qualms with binding unwilling people into eternal servitude and eating anyone who he pleases.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Initially, Happyman appeared as a man with a goatee by the name of Rascall Flatts. However, he soon dropped the act and revealed his true form while dealing with Lomax.
  • Morality Pet: Strangely, Happyman has taken quite a liking to Fadada Land, the Chinese Mitten Crab captured by Lucas Richmond in Round 1.
  • Soul Eating: This is Happyman’s main method of disposing of people, as demonstrated on Maxwell Romano Jr in a show of force after being mocked by the teen one too many times.

A. A. Lomax - 「Lead Belly」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lomaxslykoopa.png

The retired CEO of a private equity firm. He was the first person Happyman approached to gather people to La Villa Strangiato. However, he was tricked by the malevolent Stand and his soul was stolen away as well. He was eliminated from the tournament in a match inspired by [[Video Game/Splatoon Splatoon. To spare himself from Happyman’s wrath after Maxwell Romano Jr’s death, he ordered his Stand to swallow himself for 300 years.]] His Stand, [Lead Belly], takes the form of a giant catfish that can swim through solid objects and swallow objects whole, storing them in its belly in stasis.

  • Dirty Coward: Lomax is explicitly described as a coward, preferring to talk his opponent’s
  • Evil Old Folks: Downplayed. While not quite a villain per se, Lomax is definitely not a good person.
  • Sealed Badass in a Can: After his elimination, he orders Lead Belly to seal him up and not let him out until 300 years have passed.
  • Squishy Wizard: While Lead Belly is a powerful automatic Stand, Lomax himself is extremely frail and not a direct fighter in the slightest.
  • Super-Senses: Lead Belly’s sense of smell, taste and hearing are excellent, allowing it to sense its surroundings even while immersed in a solid object; however, its vision is comparatively poor.
  • Swallowed Whole: Lead Belly’s entire ability is based around swallowing people and objects whole, locking them in stasis until they can be spat up and used again.

Lucas Richmond - 「Turn to Stone」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lucasslykoopa.png

A college student studying chemistry who gained his Stand while studying a strange metal, he entered La Villa Strangiato with his protege Maxwell Romano Jr. He was eliminated from the tournament by Kaito Yuigahama in a deathmatch on the micronation of Sealand. His Stand, [Turn 2 Stone], can absorb kinetic, thermal, electric and light energy from objects with its left side and transfer them to other objects with its right side.

  • An Ice Person: By using his Stand to drain heat energy, Lucas can cause objects to freeze. He used this in Round 1 to make icebergs to block his opponent as well as in Round 3 to freeze the surface of the curling rink to sabotage his opponent’s curling stones.
  • Drunk with Power: Downplayed; as he progressed through the rounds of the tournament, Lucas started to become overconfident, bragging about his own abilities and treating his opponents as inferior.
  • Energy Absorption: A more literal example than most. Lucas doesn’t drain energy in terms of life force
  • Fun with Acronyms: In his first match, Lucas’ strategy is divided into sections entitled Things 2 Study, The 2nd Section, Trying 2 Survive and Time 2 Sizzle.
  • Light 'em Up: Turn 2 Stone can absorb ambient light and release it to temporarily blind his opponents.
  • Science Hero: Lucas’ knowledge of chemistry is invaluable to his fighting style.

Maxwell Romano Jr. - 「Winter Star」

An Italian high school student and volleyball athlete, Maxwell sought out Lucas Richmond to teach him how to use his Stand, entering La Villa Strangiato with him. He was eliminated from the tournament by Captain Killian Keyes in a competition to survive in the Slovakian mountains. Maxwell was devoured by Happyman after getting a bit too defiant for the abomination’s liking. His Stand, [Winter Star], can extend the length and width of any objects up to a length of 5 meters.

  • Decoy Protagonist: Maxwell seemed to be the most straightforward hero out of his team. However, he was eliminated in round 1 and killed off by Happyman.
  • Kid Hero: A 16-year-old high-school student with nominally heroic traits and motivations.

“Mr. Nowhere Man” - 「Nowhere Man」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nowheremanfaye.png

A former company man turned homeless when his employer was bought out, Mr Nowhere Man was tasked by A.A Lomax and Happyman to construct La Villa Strangiato, but was forced into servitude by the latter as a result. He was eliminated from the tournament alongside Rock Starr in a kart racing match on Rainbow Road against Gioia Arancini and Schioppo Fucile. His Stand, also named [Nowhere Man], allows him to build and manipulate architectural constructs, such as buildings, staircases, windows, fences, doors, etc. Each face on the constructs has its own gravitational pull going inwards towards the building; inside the building, gravity is relative to its orientation.

  • Always Someone Better: The main source of his insecurities, stemming from his time in employment. Everywhere he turned, he could see people who were younger, wealthier, more intelligent and more powerful than he was, and it made him a bitter and hollow man.
  • Artificial Limbs: After Uncle Jack rips off Nowhere’s right arm in the aftermath of R1 M29, he replaces it with an artificial arm created by his Stand made of pulleys, pivots and concrete.
  • Butt-Monkey: The tournament is not kind to him. His soul gets bound into eternal servitude by Happyman, he frequently humiliates himself live on broadcast, his teammates all hate him, and he gets his arm ripped off. To top it off, he never actually wins any of his matches; he loses his first match in R1, only entering the next round off of a revive, his R2 match ends in a tie and he loses his R3 match entirely.
  • The Faceless: His Stand’s manifestation creates this effect, covering his entire head with shadow.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Nobody on his team can stand him, leading him to try to make friends with the feral skinwalker Uncle Jack. Predictably, this ends very poorly for him.
  • He-Man Woman Hater: Nowhere has some very…close-minded opinions of women.
”(Olivia Zankov) wasn't just young and beautiful, but a literal model, the disgust and shame in Nowhere's stomach ripples throughout his body, the very foundation of his architectural arm creaking and rumbling under the stress. Women who laugh at and pity men, for their looks or status... Women who laugh at and pity him….”

Pengolo Solventi - 「Hive」 for Multiple Parasites

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hive_4.png
Pictured from top: [Guillotine Scarf], [Electric Feel], [Oyster Cult], [Age of Aquarius] and [Break My Stride]. (art by Faye)

A Red Cross relief worker and the willing host to several parasite Stands. Hive was drawn to La Villa Strangiato in the middle of being investigated/stalked by Tunde O'Santos. He was eliminated from the tournament in R4 M5 by Hadrian Moore in a duel on Easter Island. He wields a total of five parasite Stands, each with a distinct ability. [Electric Feel] causes Hive to generate static electricity at an extremely accelerated rate; by shocking another Stand user or Stand, it transfers to them. [Break My Stride] is a pair of unremovable steel-toed boots; if Hive ever stops moving them for longer than 5 seconds, they will detach themselves from his legs and walk to the nearest person. They will then kick that person, warping Hive’s body to their location and transferring itself to the kicked person. [Guillotine Scarf] is a scarf made of steel wool and barbed wire that expands and contracts based on heat; the colder the surroundings, the tighter it gets until it chokes its user to death. [The Age of Aquarius] causes any wound from Hive's mouth to produce healing water; however, the supply of water comes from his own body, and Hive cannot use it to heal the wounds in his mouth. [Oyster Cult] is a collection of oyster shells along Hive’s arms and back that detach themselves on contact with water. If damaged or pulled off, they will absorb his sodium and potassium to restore themselves.

  • All-Loving Hero: Hive’s defining characteristic; he cares for ‘’everyone’’ on his team, including the less moral characters like Tunde and Nowhere, and he’s constantly working to find ways to escape Happyman’s clutches.
  • Agony of the Feet: Whenever Break My Stride detaches from Hive’s legs, it takes his feet along with it, leaving a pair of bloody stumps at his ankles.
  • Bio-Armor: Oyster Cult’s shells all possess C Durability, allowing Hive to use it as makeshift armour as long as he can replenish his body’s sodium and potassium reserves.
  • Explosion Propulsion: In R4 M5, Hive uses the fuel tanks of a motorboat to launch himself up and over his opponent, protected by Oyster Cult’s shells covering his back.
  • Heal It with Water: Age of Aquarius’ main ability. Drinking the water also transfers the Stand to whoever drank it.
  • Kissof Death: A rare male-on-male example. His finisher for his Deathmatch with Hadrian in R4 M5 was to give him a big sloppy kiss, transferring Age of Aquarius to him, then stab the fragile manifestation of the Stand with an Oyster Cult shell to transfer the damage to Hadrian and RETIRE him instantly.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: His 4 Endurance allows him to withstand the horrific injuries that his parasite Stands put him through without too much issue. In the aftermath of R2 M3, he doesn’t even notice that Break My Stride have detached from his legs until Lucas points out the bloody stumps where his feet used to be.
  • Official Couple: With Marcella Le Blanc of the Eternal Consumption Engine.
  • Shock and Awe: At maximum charge, Electric Feel’s electric shocks have the power of a weak defibrillator, allowing him to briefly stun them.

Rock Starr - 「Abandoned Memory」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rockstarrfaye.jpg

Born without his left arm and abandoned at an orphanage, Rock Starr is a wandering vigilante who entered La Villa Strangiato along with Take Warning. He was eliminated by Gioia Arancini and Schioppo Fucile alongside his teammate Mr Nowhere Man in a Mario Kart race on Rainbow Road. His Stand, [Abandoned Memory], replaces Rock’s left arm and acts as a C Power laser cannon. When Rock defeats an enemy Stand user, Abandoned Memory will copy their Stand and create a new weapon that mimics their abilities.

  • Arm Cannon: Quite literally, since the cannon replaces his entire left arm. The default setting of his Stand allows him to fire volleys of small laser pulses.
  • Charged Attack: His “Mega Buster” setting allows him to charge up a powerful piercing laser shot, with different effects depending on how long he charges for.
  • Expy: Of Mega Man, obviously.
  • Jump Physics: With his Jump ’n’ Shoot Man 5 skill, Rock can replicate the wall jumps and slide tackles that his inspiration can perform.
  • Power Copying: Much like his inspiration, Rock can copy the abilities of his fallen foes. Unlike his inspiration, he also gains their personality, resulting in some unfortunate consequences when he copies more amoral Stand Users like Uncle Jack.

Take Warning - 「Lisztomania」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/takewarningfayeanddollar.png
From a mess to the masses/Lisztomania/Think less but see it grow (art by Faye & Dollar)

Roller rink instructor by day, vigilante by night, the woman known as Take Warning joined the Castle after a chance encounter with fellow Stand-wielding superhero Rock Starr. Some time before R3, she was defeated in battle by the supervillain Morris “The Mollusk” Montague. His Stand, [Villain I Appear], swapped the pair’s minds and killed Take in his body, taking over her identity in the process. He dropped out of the tournament after defeating Prince Johnny in R3 M9. [Lizstomania] allows Take to create chains which can split objects, attached to each other by a length of chain, or fuse them, pulling them together via chain. Take’s body is also composed of the Stand’s chains, allowing her to unravel herself into strands of metal up to 20m in length.

  • Action Girl: Among her team, she’s easily the most experienced in combat (along with Rock Starr).
  • Fragile Speedster: With a maxed-out agility stat but a feeble 2 in endurance, Take often has to use her superior mobility to out-manoeuvre stronger opponents.
  • Hopeless with Tech: Take has absolutely no idea how to operate modern technology. Phones, computers and most things with knobs and buttons are completely foreign concepts to her.
  • Insistent Terminology: She uses rollerBLADES, not rollerSKATES. Get it right!
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: The oldest sister of ‘’fifteen’’ siblings.
  • Rollerblade Good: With a 4 in Rollerblading, Take is a master at using her rollerblades to manoeuvre around the battlefield.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: Her fighting style is explicitly described as non-lethal. Once the Mollusk takes over her body, this trope becomes completely Averted.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: Her character arc, culminating in her death and replacement by the Mollusk, is a Shout-Out to the Superior Spider-Man storyline from Ultimate Marvel.

Tunde Ó Santos - 「Miracle Masterpiece」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tundefaye.png

Tabloid reporter, information broker, Florida Woman. Tunde O’Santos entered La Villa Strangiato along with Pengolo ‘Hive’ Solventi after several unsuccessful attempts to investigate the parasite host. She made it to the finals of the tournament after perfectly tying with Schioppo Fucile in Round 7. However, she lost out to both Schioppo and MIA, coming in third place in the tournament overall. Her Stand, [Miracle Masterpiece], is bound to a notebook filled with an infinite number of pages. When a page is torn from the book, a bird called a Dust Breather (a Hildebrandt’s Starling, specifically). The senses, memories and cognitive processing of these birds are enhanced to a fantastical degree, allowing them to store an extremely large amount of information. Dust Breathers, dead or alive, can be absorbed into the book to transfer their memories and observations into its pages.

BOOGIE was here.

  • Big Bad: Ultimately she's the most persistent threat of T4, rising in threat throughout the story whereas other apparent villains, boss characters included, were defeated, being killed or ducking out. Ultimately, she's eager to invoke this role for herself, even, seeing it as a helpful stepping stone to bringing out the greatness of others.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Tunde really doesn’t seem to care about being good or evil; she’s just in it for the experience. In a letter to Nate Selleck, she explains that she would have happily helped him with his scheme if he wasn’t so boring to her.
  • Crazy Is Cool: Best showcased in her match with Flint Howlett in R3 M11. Over the course of the match, she snorts a bag of cocaine, backstrokes in a geyser lake, rips apart her clothes, uses the Dust Breathers to poop in her opponent’s eyes, blasts off her opponent’s hand and eats it; all while performing an elaborate musical number of Alive from Jekyll and Hyde.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Sketchy tabloid writer to The Dragon for a demonic living stand to The Starscream who caused his undoing, and from there she played a key role in toppling Lyte and usurping its leader as the final villain of the tournament. Not bad at all for someone whose stand body was so physically weak.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: By using the Dust Breather’s information processing abilities, she can calculate the exact paths her bullets can take, allowing her to ricochet them with pinpoint accuracy.
  • Improvised Weapon: In R1 M18, she weaponised her stash of cocaine; by feeding a Dust Breather cocaine, it was able to inject Zack Bernett with a dose of cocaine directly into his bloodstream leading to his death by overdose.
  • Karma Houdini: Her plans with Xplicit are ultimately foiled, and she loses Miracle Masterpiece, but the process was so completely voluntary that she would have even had she won the match. Moreover, she's not really all that cut up about losing, and likely winds up being able to go off on her own anyway.
  • Morality Pet: After the events of R1 M18, Ricky Nelson becomes her assistant and protege, whom she grows surprisingly attached to.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Tunde had committed many crimes, but what ultimately got her on the run from the government, destined to live a life on the lam, was attempting to pry into the secrets of the Lyte corporation who were running the tournament.
  • Really Gets Around: A lot of characters are either attracted to or outright have flings with her, including the likes of Electric Grapevine and Melanzane Arancini.
  • Shadow Archetype: Viewed as such by Gioia, coming to feel that she's a version of herself in terms of passions and pursuit of interesting new horizons who is much less shackled by morality. Fittingly enough, when Tunde gives Miracle Masterpiece to Schioppo after the final battle of T4, it ends up in Gioia's hands.

  • Body Surf: Ambition Z can do this in Independent Mode
  • Cast from Hit Points: See below.
  • Life Drain: Much like Part 4's Highway Star, Claude's stand drains nutrients. Unlike that stand, Ambition Z drains nutrients from the things it cuts with its scythes or the user, if it's separated from him.
  • Sinister Scythe: The arms of Claude's stand are 5 meter long scythes, and he can use them himself when Ambition Z is in suit mode.
  • Stance System: Claude can wear Ambition Z like a suit, draining his nutrients in exchange for increased strength and access to the stand's weapons. He can also turn the stand loose to gather nutrients from outside sources, exchanging power and durability for range.

    The Fairy Fellers

Team as a Whole

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fellers_team_photo.PNG
(art by Skelly-Tan)
Andromeda: Our first team means business and is gunning for first place! Don’t let their name fool you, cross ‘em and you’re bound to lose more than a few teeth!

Team Mercury in the Urban Uprising ARG, the Fairy Fellers formed from two intersecting groups. One was under the leadership of Gioia Arancini in order to find her father, Melanzane Arancini, after he abandoned his home and family to undergo a revenge quest in Mexico, and the other, who had encountered him in his travels, by Ric Hawkes and his associates, who desired to get away from under the thumb of a cartel leader.

  • Destructive Savior: Expect ample amounts of property damage when they have a fight to get into.
  • 11th-Hour Ranger: Late in round 4, Gioia finally recovered her father, Melanzane. The team goes its separate ways in between rounds 4 and 5. He does, at least, accompany Gioia, Schioppo, and Noriko to La Horde Unie and stick around after.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Has consistently been the team with the most remaining characters since round 1, and the team whose color theme is purple.
  • Side Quest: How they viewed the tourney at first. It seemed like too big a coincidence that all of them were suddenly invited to the Urban Uprising at the same time so soon after gathering, so they thought they may as well dedicate some time to looking into it. In time, they found its stakes to be far larger than those they were fighting for before, not to mention in some ways the key to what they were trying to find.
  • Signature Team Transport: Noriko’s bus serves as both the Fellers’ mobile home and main means of transportation. Winds up getting destroyed in R3 M19, but recovered and repaired by Adam Daniels, the entire team then fighting him to get it back.
  • Thrill Seeker: The side of the team which joined through Gioia all share this in common, in contrast with Ric's side actively seeking to get away from a life of crime.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: While none of them were monsters, all become better, more mature, happier people through their experiences together and through the tourney.
  • Two Lines, No Waiting: The dual nature of their team backstory, following the gathering of the criminal and civilian sides of the team which would eventually merge.
  • Villain of Another Story: Their woes are connected through the crimes of vicious Mexican cartel leader Saint Cecilia... Who doesn't really figure into the tournament plot in any particular way.

Connor Pruckette - 「Megalovania」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/connor_small.PNG
dododo do! da da da dadada!! (art by Skelly-Tan)

A retired billiards champion once known as the “Eye of Apollo”. After being attacked by a supposedly unbeaten billiards player, who had actually disposed of the real winners of his matches to keep his record intact, he awakened his Stand and formed a strong bond with them. While on a personal quest for fulfilment, he challenged Gioia and her allies to a friendly game of billiards and helped them fend off an entire bar filled with Stand users when they became hostile, joining the team soon after. He voluntarily left the tournament after his bingo match with Lenoir Kleid, seeking to reunite with his family. His Stand is [Megalovania], a colony-type stand comprising of 9 sentient billiard balls; each ball can retain exactly the same amount of force applied to it and can transfer this force to another object on contact, causing it to fly off at the same velocity.

  • The Ace: He doesn't lose. Ever.
  • Challenge Seeker: His motivation for joining the Fairy Fellers.
  • Cool Old Guy: One of the oldest characters in the tournament at 57 and still a very friendly and jolly man.
  • Faster Than They Look: Despite his advanced age, Connor still possesses a 5 in Agility.
  • Glowing Eyes: His left eye glows a bright blue when he’s sufficiently pissed off or in the process of intimidating someone.
  • I Know Madden Kombat: He fights almost exactly like a billiards player, using Megalovania to pull off trickshots and launch heavy objects at opponents.
  • The Mentor: Won't hesitate to impart wisdom on his fellow Fellers where need be.
  • Retired Badass: Has retired as a professional pool player and settled down, but can still kick ass with the best of them.
  • Shout-Out: His billiards-based fighting style is based off of Venom from Guilty Gear. His glowing eye is also a shout-out to Sans from Undertale.

Gioia Arancini - 「Love Kills」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gioia_small.PNG

A ballet dancer born in a remote town in Sicily, Gioia embarked on a mission to find her father, a world famous ballet dancer-turned-instructor, after he went missing during one of his tours. After meeting several other Stand users on the way, she decided to form a team with them and eventually became embroiled in the Urban Uprising ARG. After killing a clone of MIA created by the Stand-Using Supercomputer HEXSYSTEM in Round 7 (who spared a clone of Gioia), she decided to take a momentary breather from the shock of having killed someone for the first time, eliminating her from the tournament in its semifinal match. Her Stand, [Love Kills] has the ability to turn touched objects into construction paper, with all of the properties associated with it. Objects retain any damage that may have occurred once they revert back from their paperized form. Additionally, paperized objects that are taped together fuse with each other when they return to normal. In the aftermath of the tourney, she received Tunde's Stand 'Miracle Masterpiece' from Schioppo Fucile.

  • A Child Shall Lead Them: Well, co-leader after joining up with Ric, but she's both the youngest of the Fellers, 17 at the tourney's start and turning 18 after the first round, and the one who drives much of their action.
  • Battle Cry: Of course! Hers is a rush of repeated "ARA ARA ARA ARA ARA" with increasing intensity and speed. She considers doing so vitally important.
  • The Cameo: She and 'Miracle Masterpiece' are occasionally briefly referenced in T5, though Gioia herself is deliberately kept extremely out of focus; it's mostly through occasional references and allusions by her friend Violet.
  • Comes Great Responsibility: Believes this deeply about her status as a stand user, thinking that anything short of using her gifts towards punishing those who would abuse its power would make her craven.
  • Dainty Little Ballet Dancers: A complete aversion. She's scrappy as hell.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Although she started out seeming cold, elitist and haughty, she has mellowed out considerably since the start of the tournament, especially after finding her father.
  • Determinator: A defining trait of hers.
  • Dirty Business: How she feels about joining La Horde Uniee with express intent of killing Lyte's higher-ups.
  • Edible Theme Naming: Much like the characters from Vento Aureo, Gioia is also named after an Italian food; specifically, arancini, a type of deep-fried rice ball usually made from the leftovers of risotto. Her father's given name, Melanzane, literally means "eggplant."
  • Expy: A broad one; she's based in part on several canonical JoJo protagonists, having a lot of traits common to them along with many of her own.
  • Hero of Another Story: The summer prior to the Urban Uprising, she and Schioppo were involved in defeating the forces of an evil stand user in their own hometown over the course of a very hectic break. Gioia also found out that her father is very much one of these.
  • Hot-Blooded: Despite how cold she could act in the past, she has always been this, growing much more open about it as time passes.
  • Important Haircut: In her round 2 match against Pao, in order to prevent the Gravity Master from catching it on something, had Nico cut her once-long hair down to chin length at what was another major step for her maturation as a person.
  • Magnetic Hero: Much of the Fairy Fellers' story involves her status as this, getting Schioppo, then Kris, then Connor, then Sofia to follow her before the final one leads to her contact with Ric.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: Upon joining Niyaz, made it extremely clear that she was only doing so out of necessity. She makes a point of even saying that if he attempts to return to his imperialistic ways, she will stand against him.
  • Girly Bruiser: Wears a pink dress and makeup all around, but she's still extremely rough-and-tumble.
  • Good Is Not Soft: A good-natured delinquent, but still one who won't hesitate to rip through anything that stands in her way and beat down opposition. She also ultimately decides it's acceptable to take a person's life it's necessary.
  • Must Have Caffeine: She always carries a travel mug filled with macchiato, which she guzzles daily. Even in her younger years, she could always be found in a local coffee shop, downing cup after cup of coffee no matter the time of day.
  • Official Couple: With Schioppo Fucile, as of the aftermath of R3 M5.
  • Paper Master: Gioia’s ability allows her to turn any object into paper; however, it’s mostly used to rip and tear through objects rather than folding it or manipulating it like most examples of this trope.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: Defied, after some thought on the matter. Some people, she comes to decide, require absolutely decisive measures, compartmentalizing herself as an "executioner" to try and dispassionately dole out justice, and she thinks that lesser measures would simply be irresponsible. Even still, the first time she kills another human, the Hex Clone MIB,, it's devastating enough for her that she suffers a small breakdown, one of the very few times in her very busy life she just breaks to catch her breath. After that, she becomes even more discriminate about who she deems this necessary for.
  • Worthy Opponent: Prone to considering opponents as such. Djimon, Pao, Niyaz, Ami and Yumi, Lennox, Kaito... More or less the only opponent in the tourney she's had who she doesn't respect as a person, but still as an enemy, is Nowhere Man, which, fair enough. She also didn't connect much in this way with Selleck, being more focused then on 1) her horror at her momentary ally, Tunde, and 2) the death of Andrew K. Lennox. The latter, in particular, she'd considered to be her greatest rival by the time of her final match.

Kris P. Bacon - 「Under Pressure」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kris_small.PNG

A traceur and an adrenaline junkie who took to parkour as a way to destress, Kris was saved from falling off a rooftop by the awakening of his Stand. He joined up with Gioia’s crew after tailing them through the city of Chicago and a brief Stand battle with the ballet dancer herself. After being eliminated in Round 1 by Lucas Richmond in a jetski chase, he received a revive in Round 4. However, he was defeated by his teammate, Schioppo Fucile, in a junkyard brawl to prove Schioppo's resolve. His Stand, [Under Pressure], can compress air into its hands, creating temporary vacuums in the air around it, and expel stored air to push objects away.

  • Achilles in His Tent: A comedic variant. After his loss, he purchased a Coffin and would frequently lay in it to get out of being asked to do things.
  • Blithe Spirit: Probably the most free-spirited member of his team, along with Connor. His match with Lucas was played with the character clearly prioritizing having a fun time above everything else, and even during an hour-long deathmatch with the YMCA, he still finds time to have fun and enjoy himself.
  • Blow You Away: Under Pressure’s ability allows it to manipulate gases by compressing or expelling it.
  • The Bus Came Back: After being eliminated in Round 1 by Lucas Richmond, Kris spent three rounds on the sidelines before being brought back into the tournament by Connor’s voluntary retirement.
  • Combat Parkour: Kris uses his parkour skills and Stand to leap around the battlefield, becoming one of the most mobile people in the tournament.
  • Expy: Unintentionally, Kris has had a very similar character arc to Ken Nard from the previous tournament. Both characters were defined by their carefree, jolly nature, both have similar mobility-based Stands, and both were knocked out of the tournament extremely early on. However, while Ken never received his revive and was killed off by his player, Kris successfully managed to re-enter the tournament in R4. This also makes him comparable to Lucil Caravan, a character from Tournament 3 who was also eliminated and brought back much later.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Before Round 4, was portrayed as such. Upon his return, he gained Connor's Glowing Eyes effect.
  • Running Gag: The Judges jokingly stated that Kris was the last on the list of good candidates to revive (although in reality, they felt that he was one of the most deserving characters to be revived). This resulted in numerous jokes from the players about reviving Kris and jokes from the judges about Kris never being revived. This eventually culminated in Kris actually being revived in Round 4.

Noriko Yabuuchi - 「Bus Stop」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/olive_norikosmall.png

A teenage bus driver from Japan, Noriko obtained her Stand after accidentally falling asleep at the wheel and crashing her bus down a hill. The incident was covered up by Ric Hawkes, since the crash had killed his superior and allowed him to take over his position, and she began working in the United States as part of a favour to him. She joined the Fairy Fellers along with Ric, Stefan and Corazon out of gratitude to Ric. She was eliminated from the tournament by Tunde O’Santos in R4 M2 in a battle surrounded by deadly cyanobacteria in Shark Bay, Australia. Her Stand, [Bus Stop] can produce Bubbles and Antibubbles (i.e. a sphere of water surrounded by air) and control them at will.

  • Badass Driver: Thanks to Bus Driver: 5, Noriko can pull off some insane stunts while behind the wheel of her bus. For example, in the lead-up to R3 M13, Noriko used an explosion from Fujisawa Loser to catapult her bus in front of Tom Alcove’s car to cut off a potential escape route. This skill also extends to other vehicles, including the scooters found in the Knife Emporium in R2 M5.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Despite her odd behavior, she's extremely effective in battle.
  • Bubble Gun: Bus Stop’s bubbles pop with C Power, making them roughly equivalent in power to a bullet. Since Bus Stop can create up to 1 cubic metre of bubbles per second, Noriko can easily create a massive amount of powerful bubbles at once.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: She's an eccentric one, for certain.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Through all her abrasiveness, she treats her friends well and very deeply values human life.
  • Making a Splash: Noriko’s can create antibubbles, which can ricochet off of things and move at faster speeds in water.
  • Improbable Age: Noriko was only a teenager when she began her career as a bus driver; however, she was eventually allowed to train under adult supervision. Deconstructed, as her young age combined with the overworking that came from her natural driving ability caused a crash that killed almost everyone on the vehicle.
  • Limited Wardrobe: The biggest aversion on her team. Her outfit changed with every round.
  • Shout-Out: Her initial design was compared to “a rejected member of the Scooby-Doo cast”, and she has the skill Scobby: 3, allowing her to set up ridiculously convoluted traps with materials she can find in the area.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Though always good-hearted, she was very standoffish and disrespectful to even her teammates early on, developing better communication skills as time went on.

Ric Hawks - 「Moving in Stereo」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ric_small.PNG

Working for Mackle & Moore Accounting, an accounting firm in the pocket of the Mexican drug syndicate Saint Cecilia, Ric rose through the ranks of the firm through a combination of charisma, favours and several lucky incidents that worked in his favour. Ric came into contact with a ballet dancer named Melanzane Arancini, who warned him about Mackle & Moore’s increasing status as a liability. When Ric encountered his daughter on the search for him, he decided to help her on her quest as well as take down Saint Cecilia in the process, thus forming the Fairy Fellers. He and Stefan Pilatti were eliminated from the tournament in R2 M17 by Adam Daniels and Scott “Strange” Summers after failing to stop them from escaping a prison in San Diego, California. Ric’s Stand is [Moving in Stereo], a pair of humanoids named Touch and Go that can charge objects with “positive” and “negative” energy. Charged objects become magnetically attracted to each other, with increasing strength the longer the Stand stays in contact with the object.

  • Body Horror: His plan to deal with Adam Daniels’ Bloody Murder was to charge his blood weapons and the floor, then activate the magnetism and rip his blood out of his body.
  • Brick Joke: At the start of his match with North Dakota in Round 1, he shouts that North is going to “eat shit when I’m through with you!” Later in the match, he magnetises North’s head to the bowl of a porta-potty and proceeds to stomp his head into it while cackling “I told you, didn’t I?!”
  • The Leader: Though especially after his elimination, takes a less aggressive approach to this, directing missions broadly and doing investigative legwork.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: With Stefan in R2 M17. Both characters make it clear from the start that they really don’t like each other, but they end up working together quite well anyway.
  • Token Evil Teammate: While not necessarily evil, Ric is one of the more morally grey member of the Fellers, being a former gangster.
  • Wonder Twin Powers: Moving in Stereo requires the use of both Touch and Go in order to work properly.

Schioppo Fucile - 「Fire & Ice」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/schioppo_small.PNG

Schioppo was born and raised in the same Sicilian town as Gioia. Growing up, he became obsessed with Spaghetti Westerns and the gunslingers that he saw as “real men” and strived to become one of them. Unfortunately, he instead became a coward, a bully and a weeaboo; that is, until he met Gioia and the rest of the Fellers. Schioppo managed to make it all the way to the finals, facing off against MIA and his arch-nemesis, Tunde O'Santos; however, after defeating the latter, he barely lost to the former, landing in second place. His Stand is [Fire and Ice] and takes the form of a large rifle. Its bullets can cause the temperature of an object hit by one to either increase or decrease; more bullets shot at the same target increase the rate of this temperature change. Somewhere along the journey, Schioppo discovered that Fire and Ice had an additional feature; a shadowy figure called “Pat” that reassures and advises Schioppo whenever he needs it.

  • Character Development: Schioppo has grown from being a bully and a coward pre-tourney, to a Cowardly Lion in the first two rounds, into a confident and resolute marksman.
  • Cowardly Lion: Despite being terrified and unsure, he was Gioia's only friend to accompany her on her dangerous journey to America, and stuck with the game despite all apprehension. Ultimately, he placed second in the entire tourney, surpassing Gioia in final placement by one round and two places.
  • Eye Scream: Schioppo’s usual opening play is to aim for their opponents’ eyes with hot bullets, heating them until they melt out of their sockets. He can also shoot cold bullets at them to freeze their eyelids shut.
  • Gratuitous Italian: Schioppo tends to pepper his speech with Italian words and phrases.
  • Hero Killer: Has among the highest RETIRE Counts of all player characters in the tournament at 6 (the full list: Little Big Clyde Longbarrel and Thijs Van Leer, Mr Nowhere Man and Rock Starr, Milo Aurel, Vanita Butler, and Kris P. Bacon).
  • Hero of Another Story: The summer prior to the Urban Uprising, she and Schioppo were involved in defeating the forces of an evil stand user in their own hometown over the course of a very hectic break. Gioia also found out that her father is very much one of these.
  • Hero of Another Story: The summer prior to the Urban Uprising, he and Gioia were involved in defeating the forces of an evil stand user in their own hometown over the course of a very hectic break. Schioppo's father was also one of these.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: With Expert In The Field Without a Doubt: 5, Schioopo’s marksmanship skill greatly exceeds any human sharpshooter.
  • Meaningful Name: “Fucile” literally translates to “rifle” in Italian. His entire family has guns as a naming theme, himself included, though he's the only gun user among them.
  • Playing with Fire: Combined with An Ice Person. Fire and Ice’s temperature controlling bullets can heat objects to their flash point as well as cool them to near absolute zero.
  • Repetitive Name: Basically two words for 'Rifle.'
  • Spirit Advisor: “Pat” serves little mechanical purpose, instead acting as a general mentor and advisor for Schioppo during battles.

Sofía Alicia Romero Pérez - 「Lilywhite Lilith」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sofia_small.PNG

Sofia was born into poverty in Iztapalapa, Mexico City, and soon joined one of the many gangs there as a courier in order to survive in the slums. She met Melanzane Arancini, who agreed to help her dismantle the Saint Cecilia organised crime syndicate in Mexico which she had unwillingly grown tied to. She was introduced to Ric Hawkes and the rest of his allies at Mackle & Moore by Melanzane and eventually joined him in forming the Fairy Fellers with Gioia and her team so that she could finally escape a life of crime. She was eliminated from the tournament by Demis Roussous in R4 M7 in a penguin-sledding match in Antarctica. Her Stand, [Lilywhite Lilith], can create portals into a special pocket dimension from any graffiti tag of the same design from the same artist within its range. Each graffiti tag opens to its own unique pocket dimension.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's a sweet and fun-loving artist, but also a deadly sniper with a morally ambiguous edge to her actions.
  • Bilingual Bonus: At the beginning of R3 M2, after noticing the effects of the stage hazard Stand, she makes a remark in untranslated Spanish. In English, what she says roughly translates as:
Sofia: “So that's how it works. An intelligent sniper never teaches others where he is. That is going to be the last mistake of your life, you old crap.”
  • Cool Big Sis: Gioia views her in such a light.
  • Cruel Mercy: Inflicts this upon Ronald Fogerty when she has him at her mercy. Though she spares his life, she breaks his hands so badly he can never again fire a gun.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Easily had it the roughest growing up out of any Feller.
  • Friendly Sniper: She's playful, friendly, protective of her friends and one of the deadliest snipers in the tournament.
  • Portal Picture: Her graffiti tags serve as entrances to their own unique pocket dimension. Taken to its logical extreme in R3 M2; the stage hazard Stand took the form of a full moon hanging low over the battlefield. She used various Stand-created cacti fruit laying around the area to make a makeshift paint, laid a tag on the ground and painted a stand-cactus mural directly onto the moon Stand. The pocket dimension that it created acted as the ultimate vantage point, giving her near-perfect vision of the entire battlefield.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Sofia is one of the nicest people on the team and has the hair colour to match her disposition.

Stefan Pilatti - 「D-Code」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/stefan_small.PNG

Born with a disorder that severely weakened his digestive system, Stefan began tinkering with computers to pass the time, becoming a skilled hacker in the process. While working for Mackle & Moore Accounting, he found that a coworker, Kid Rock, was embezzling a small fortune from the firm. Instead of reporting him, he used a similar scheme to steal millions of dollars from the company. He managed to pin the blame for the stolen funds solely on Kid Rock, allowing him to get off scot-free, and has remained an associate of Ric's despite fearing what might come of his secret being out, knowing it's partially the cause of the company's trouble. He joined the Fairy Fellers along with Ric once he met with Gioia’s team and decided that he wanted out of the life of organised crime. Along with Ric Hawkes, he was eliminated from the tournament in R2 M17 by Adam Daniels and Scott “Strange” Summers after failing to stop them from escaping a prison in San Diego, California. [D-Code] can eat objects and duplicate them into the world, retaining their momentum and original form when they were eaten. If it swallows itself, the user disappears and teleports to any place within the Stand’s 50m range.

  • Combat Pragmatist: To ensure his victory in the shopping mall match against Lennox in R1, Stefan teleports directly towards him and shoots Lennox in the legs. This wound up crippling Lennox completely, rendering him wheelchair-bound for the rest of the tournament. Deconstructed slightly in that he had never fired upon a person before that, and the action greatly affected his psyche, even if he found it easier to do again in round 2.
  • The Cracker: Thanks to his skill with computers and technology, Stefan can hack into almost anything. He’s used this to embezzle money, hack security cameras and walkie-talkies and get people into trouble and out of the way.
  • Desperately Searching For A Purpose In Life: Isn't really sure what he wants to do with himself, and has been seeking direction to little success.
  • Guns Akimbo: Dual-wields two Colt M1911 pistols, although he had never used them on a person before the tournament.
  • Intercom Villainy: Stefan makes full use of the intercoms present in the shopping mall in his R1 match, convincing the shoppers to steal as much as they can to disrupt Lennox’s efforts, as well as in the prison in R2, informing the prisoners to stay inside their cells to avoid their opponents from inciting them to do anything.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Doesn't really stand to gain anything from continuing to stick with his team and provide his services after his elimination. He just likes them.
  • Non-Action Guy: An extremely talented computer expert, working from the backseat suits him well. Even his strategies in fights involves as minimal direct combat against enemies as possible, which he makes a point to try and end as swiftly as he can.
  • Teleport Spam: In R1 M2, his first move was to immediately teleport to the roof in order to evade Lennox, which allowed him to get a head start on stealing the more expensive items in the shops on the upper floors. In R2 M17, he uses his teleportation to jump himself and Ric around the map as needed.
  • Those Two Guys: Despite Ric's leader status and their dubious bond, they have this sort of dynamic relative to the rest of the Fairy Fellers.
  • Troll: In R2 M17, for the purposes of distracting and disorienting Adam and Scott, Stefan constructed this playlist [1]to play over the prison’s loudspeakers on loop at max volume, both to serve as a distraction and just annoy the hell out of their opponents.

Gioia B. "Bioia" Arancini - 「Love Kills」

    Tower of Terra

Team as a Whole

Bhangra Mehndi - 「Tunak Tunak Tun」

Colorado Blue - 「MC Hammer」

Darwin Glermen - 「Metal Man」

Garland - 「Over the Rainbow」

  • Anime Hair: Garland styles his hair into a hi-top fade that appears to be more of a solid object than a hairstyle, taking on the shape of something resembling an uncapped tube of lipstick or a "broken crayon" as another competitor put it.
  • Cowardly Lion: Known to be afraid of some of the other stand users - Electric Grapevine in particular - but he still tries to do the right thing. Usually.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Done deliberately with his own powers to (usually) make his hair and eyes the same color.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: His mighty stand gives him the power to... change the colors of things. Wait, is that it? But opponents have been shocked to find out that that includes blinding his foes, turning himself invisible, creating illusions, and much, much more...
  • Heroic Neutral: Garland would have been content to just take part in the tournament and live his life, but with word of strange deaths and criminal conspiracies making the rounds, he's started to feel a sense of responsibility to do something about it.
  • Last-Name Basis: He's referred to solely by his artistic mononym 99% of the time, including on his own signup sheet where his own first name is omitted entirely.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: He's almost always wearing a bespoke three-piece suit complete with expensive silk tie and Italian leather shoes.

Jinban Zhuge - 「The Wind of Change」

Mars - 「Red is the Rose」

Professor Bernal - 「Around the World」

Robert Chitter - 「Wildflower」

  • Beware the Nice Ones: He's a nice guy, but getting him angry will prove.. problematic.
  • Body Horror: Grows trees out of his body pretty often, looks incredibly unsanitary.
  • Combat Pragmatist: He's got a job to do and he doesn't particularly care how he has to do it.
  • Edible Ammunition: His ability allows him to grow various fruits and vegetables, even exploding ones. All can be eaten.
  • Festering Fungus: After his passing at the hands of [m.A.A.D City], Robbert managed to use the final grains of his ability to grow fungus in his brains, defying his own ability and creating a new consciousness.
  • Green Thumb: Both his abilities are primarily based around controlling plant life.
  • Having a Blast: He can create Apple bombs.
  • Instant Armor: Act 2 of his Stand Ability, [Wildflower], allows him to create armor of tree bark on his body.
  • Punch-Clock Hero: While he's usually a bit more gray on the moral scale, he's been paid by a team of good guys and is thus a bit of a good guy.
  • Strong and Skilled: Has done mercenary work for quite a long time, supplementing his already powerful abilities with physical aptitude.

Youngstown Mysteries and Curiosities Association: Golden Investigation Team; Grand United Division

Team as a Whole

  • Weirdness Magnet: "Cursed" objects and strange creatures tend to just show up near them.
  • Properly Paranoid: For as strange as they are, YMCA members do deal with the actual supernatural regularly.
  • Home Base: An actual bank claimed by the organization as a headquarters and home. Vaguely cursed, of course.
  • Occult Detective: Their job, and reason for being part of the ARG at all.
  • Chaotic Stupid: In order to get closer to the truth, they use some pretty unorthodox, if not absolutely nightmarish tactics. Because, you know, why not?
  • Overly Long Name: Being noted as members of the Youngstown branch of the larger international Mysteries and Curiosities Association isn't good enough. You also need to note that they're the Golden Investigation Team (as the leaders of the branch, of course) and specifically the Grand United Division of this team. Well, okay. Really it's because that's shortened to "YMCA: GIT;GUD."

Baba O' Riley - 「Won't Get Fooled Again」

Flint Howlett - 「Climbatize」

  • Paper Master: His stand ability allows him to turn objects into paper. He tends to use this power to create paper airplanes, and can even turn himself into a paper airplane to get around the place.

Jinsoo Chong - 「Fly Too High」

M.I.A. - 「Angel's Thesis」

  • All-Loving Hero: Has developed into this by the end of the story, starting as a paranoid wreck and ending as the ultimate moral pillar and victor of the tourney.

Milo A. - 「Descendents」

  • Young and in Charge: Leads this branch of the MCA, including his tournament team as well as all the unrelated mystery investigations, having only turned 17 shortly before T4 began. Even before that, he covered for his T3 predecessor's leaderly position in a separate "company" for a couple of months.
  • Gravity Master: Raising and lowering gravity is his stand's ability.
  • Teen Genius: Has a degree in bio-engineering and is an experienced leader, despite a lack in wisdom. And typing skill.
  • Superior Successor: To T3's Damon Aurel. A relative with more experience in stand use, who attended college at an earlier age, and has distinctly better morals? Milo absolutely qualifies.
  • Sophisticated as Hell: Occasionally slips into speaking this way, mixing edgy nonchalance and crudeness with professional and businesslike vocabulary.
  • Third Party Stops Attack: His duel with Antonio Gibson in round one was prevented from becoming fatal for both members by a nearby stand user- Major Tom, from past tournaments.

The Man in the Yellow Suit - 「Everything's Golden」

  • Golden Super Mode: His stand ability lets himself or his allies enter this, maximising the target's physical stats and granting resistance to weapons and stand attacks for a short period of time.

Vanita Butler - 「Kill the Lights」

Victor Pheare - 「Rust in Peace」

    Zenith of the Further Skies

Team as a Whole

  • Cool Ship: Zeniths base of operations is an air-craft carrier named the “SS Olympus”, which was paid for by the richer members of team.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: Several elements of the team are named after Greek Mythology. The SS Olympus is a reference to Mt. Olympus and the “further skies” part of their name is a play on “Father Sky”, which was one of Uranus’s titles.
  • All or Nothing: In round 3, the last two active members of Zenith, Olivia and Killian, decided to partner together for one potentially final match rather than split up to have a higher percentage chance of the group moving on to Round 4.
  • Pride Before a Fall: While the whole point of Zenith to prove that it’s various members are the best of the best at their particular skills, this hasn’t stopped a majority of the groups members to be knocked out of the competition early on.

Annie Bonn - 「Smashing Pumpkins」

  • You Killed My Father: Unlike most members of Zenith, Annie had an ulterior motive for joining the group. She wants to find and get revenge on the criminal organization that killed her father and destroyed their family business.
  • Quality over Quantity: Annie was able to beat Calendar Waters, whose stand ability allows him to split himself into 4 separate people, in the fight between the two. Annie was obviously at a disadvantage numbers-wise, with the fight being a 4v1.
  • Manipulative Bastard: In her second match, Annie tried to manipulate her opponent into letting her win by badly injuring herself to induce his sympathy.

Antonio Gibson - 「My Mother-in-Law is a Scorpion」

Captain Killian Keyes - 「Wayward Son」

  • Charles Atlas Superpower: Years of sailing have given him superhuman levels of strength and endurance. His stand is effectively a repositioning tool for getting his rock-hard body into his opponent's faces.
  • Self-Imposed Challenge: Is known for doing these at the beginning of his matches. These range from being useful counters to his opponents (blindfolding himself against a stand used to create visual tricks) to doing them just because he could (not using his stand during his first match).
  • Strong and Skilled: Has superhuman strength and has mastered Krav Maga, to the point that he successfully wrestled bears.

Carol Mann - 「Porcupine Tree」

Kenta Ryoshi - 「Flamingo」

Kevin "Junior" Jackson V - 「Family Tradition」

North Dakota - 「Rainbow Connection」

  • Animal Motifs: North Dakota is a beekeeper/ CEO of a honey company who always wears his beekeeping suit. His stand also has bee wings and a bee stinger.
  • Rainbow Motif: Aside from his stand literally being called [Rainbow Connection], it’s ability also involves it shooting out a rainbow colored laser beam.
  • Sadist: To put it simply, North is an psychopathic asshole. He commonly tries antagonizing other tournament members, will kill random workers out of pure frustration and even made a weird ASMR snuff video of himself torturing bees. Jesus.

Olivia Zankov - 「Strange Attraction」

  • Rags to Riches: Despite her family having financial difficulties, Olivia has managed to rise up and become very successful as a well known fashion model.
  • Unluckily Lucky: Olivia’s first two matches both ended in ties, a rather strange coincidence. While most people would be happy enough with this, Olivia didn’t take it so well as she felt that she was constantly on the razors edge of failure.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Olivia has been shown to be able to aim the lasers created by her stand with ridiculous precision, once being able to ricochet a laser off of dozens of glass shards while the shards were falling in the air in order to hit her target.
  • Gravity Master: Olivia’s Stand is powered by a mini black hole that it uses to absorb objects into itself. Olivia has also used this ability in a variety of other ways, from manipulating the path of projectiles to allowing her a somewhat awkward form of flight.

    Boss Characters

Alexander Abhez - 「Nature Boy」

An errand boy competing in the Urban Uprising ARG alone. He served as the Boss of R1 M10, competing against Pengolo “Hive” Solventi and Marcella Le Blanc to escape a burning apartment building in Seoul, South Korea with possession of a book containing a tag. He reappeared in the aftermath of R2 M7, saving the life of Annie Bonn after a failed attempt to trick their captor into letting them both live. He formed the team Uncivil Umbra along with Djimon Iskinder Ejigu, the Stand-wielding bird Hunger, and former UU Admins Lauryn Caprese and Keith Moon. They were later joined by Kris P. Bacon, Kaito Yugihama, Demis Roussous, MIA, Flint Howlett, Millie Cialda, Nico Wolfram, Californian attorney general David Sides and railroad tycoon Emmanuel Faeman, with the goal of bringing the higher-ups of Lyte Ltd to justice. His Stand, [Nature Boy], can take the air or water around it and purify it of any hazardous substance, expelling clean air or water in return. By R2 M7, it has evolved into [Nature Boy: ACT 2]. Its ability now allows it to take any object considered “useless”, “broken” or “unwanted” and recycle it to create something new; however, only up to 90% of the material can be recreated, the rest being burnt up as energy. His Stand has evolved even further by the end of R3 M9 into [Nature Boy: ACT 3]; the Stand acts as a clean power generator that can transfer the energy it creates into objects and living organisms, increasing their functional capacities. However, if too much energy is transferred to the object, it will overheat and possibly become damaged.
  • Blow You Away: Once Nature Boy ACT 1 takes in air, it can expel bursts of the purified air with enough force to knock a person over.
  • Combat Medic: Nature Boy ACT 2 is first shown constructing a makeshift IV bag out of the remains of a metal bookshelf, plastic bags and rubber tubing, as well as plugging up Annie Bonn’s stomach wound with a plug made out of a plastic bottle and a rubber ball. Its healing properties are enhanced further with its evolution into ACT 3, as it is able to overclock a person’s body to heal wounds at a much faster rate or recover their stamina more quickly.
  • Defeat Equals Friendship: The special win condition for his boss match was to befriend Alex by saving people from the burning building and not directly attacking him. The players managed to pull this off flawlessly, earning them the first perfect Jojolity score in tournament history.
  • Free-Range Children: Thanks to his parents complete lack of interest in him and the presence of his Stand, Alex is able to travel all over the world without worry.
  • "Get Back Here!" Boss: His boss match consisted solely of him running away from the players and trying to escape from the burning apartment building.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: Purifying air and water doesn’t seem like a very useful ability; however, Alex finds numerous uses for it, allowing himself to breathe safely in the smoky environment of the burning building, boost his speed by launching currents from behind him and extinguish fires by smothering them with smoke.
  • Incorruptible Pure Pureness: Alex has an odd fixation on preserving his innocence, to the point where he covers his ears whenever someone around him starts swearing.
  • Kid Hero: Alex is only 14 years old, yet he already has a powerful Stand and is deeply involved with the investigation of Urban Uprising.
  • Parental Abandonment: His parents are George and Eden Abhez, two hippies who have no idea how to raise him. Even though he still lives with them and is homeschooled by them, they barely do anything to care for him at all.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Alex is very mature for his age and has a surprisingly high capacity for learning despite his upbringing; this makes him a far more cunning opponent than one would expect.

Niyaz Jamilev & Oscar K Computer - 「Gates of Babylon」 & 「The King of Limbs」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/niyaz&oscar.jpg

The primary members of Team Titan, La Horde Aurique. Niyaz, the supposed reincarnation of Genghis Khan, and his court painter Oscar served as the bosses of Match 20 of Round 1, battling Electric Grapevine and Baba O'Reilly outside the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey. They were eliminated from the tournament (but not RETIRED) by Schioppo Fucille and Gioia Arancini in Match 5 of Round 3, and turned to investigating the inner workings of Urban Uprising. After R4 M5, Niyaz and Oscar formed La Horde Unie, consisting of themselves, Electric Grapevine and Mylo Xyloto. They were later joined by Pao de Queijo, Alarm Call, Tunde O'Santos, Gioia Arancini, Schioppo Fucile, Hadrian Moore, Noriko Yabuuchi, Ric Hawkes, Jack Norworth, Andrew Lennox and Take Warning, with the collective goal of the complete destruction of Lyte Ltd and its associates. Niyaz's Stand, [Gates of Babylon], contains a shadowy abyss that can produce minions of varying sizes. Each minion can be "fused" with an object to gain its properties; for example, a battery will electrify the minion, while a finger will give them human hands. Oscar’s Stand, [The King of Limbs], allows Oscar to pull objects out of or put objects into any work of art; this includes any visual creative medium, like paintings, photographs, video games, etc. Objects taken out of art pieces function as they would normally, and Oscar can pull out extremely specific things from artworks, such as being able to separate apple seeds from an apple or the engine from a car.

  • A Child Shall Lead Them: At sixteen years old, quite a lot is on his plate, but he manages it quite well.
  • Affably Evil: Niyaz, while not completely evil, certainly isn't a good person; in fact, Oscar's presence is the only thing stopping him from killing every enemy he comes across. However, he is always polite and respectful to his opponents, even offering Electric Grapevine a position in his team after seeing her strength in their match.
  • Art Initiates Life: Oscar is able to pull real people out from artwork. He did this in Match 20 of Round 1 to pull the Beatles from the Abbey Road album cover and the Mona Lisa from its print, as well as creating minions out of the carvings of an ancient temple in Match 10 of Round 2.
  • Body Horror: In Match 20 of Round 1, Oscar creates the Beatle Beetle; the Volkswagen Beetle from the Abbey Road album cover with the (still technically alive ) heads and limbs of the Beatles attached to the hood and roof. He also takes the skin of off John Lennon's face to make a gas mask.
  • Benevolent Boss: Truly recognizes the value of those who serve under his lead and treats them well, even if he can be harsh, rather than as disposable pawns like Mylo, or superficially treating them lavishly while breaking their souls and overworking them like Nate.
  • Berserk Button: Niyaz despises people who break promises (much like his historical counterpart). Meanwhile, Oscar is physically unable to draw realistic hands and he’s a little touchy about it.
BOSS! I’LL LET YOU FINISH... BUT I HAVE SOME THINGS TO SAY ABOUT HANDS! Hands are the bane of my existence…the blasted things are too complex, too detailed; each one is different! MERDE MERDE MERDE! THE CURVATURE OF THE FINGERS, THE LINES ON THE PALMS, THE KNUCKLES, THE LENGTH OF THE FINGERNAILS, THE POSITIONING OF THE FINGERS!”
  • Character Development: Niyaz has gone from a somewhat coldhearted antagonist, albeit one with his redeeming traits, to a pretty outright Pragmatic Hero, legitimately respected by much of the tourney.
  • Cool Car: Well, "cool” in a sense. Niyaz and Oscar make use of the Beatle Beetle, a Volkswagen Beetle with the Beatle’s limbs and heads fused to the car (George on the back, Paul and Ringo on the roof, John as a hood ornament) along with pieces of rock and helmets to increase its durability, in R1 M20 and R3 M5.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Subjects Mylo Xyloto to one in their impromptu battle on Rapa Nui. Since The King Of Limbs' ability to enter art extends to *all* types of art, he's able to dive into the paint that Mylo has sprayed onto the ground, emerge from a fleck of paint on his shoulder and knock him out with one punch.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Niyaz and Oscar’s first official appearance was as “Mario” and “Luigi” in R1 M3; Oscar’s Stand was the reason why the players were pulled into the game of Tetris. Niyaz himself was behind the apartment building fire in R1 M10 and Oscar was responsible for pulling the players into the Sistine Chapel Ceiling in R1 M15.
  • Famous Ancestor: Niyaz believes that he is the reincarnation of Genghis Khan himself; whether this is true or not is up to interpretation.
  • Flunky Boss: Niyaz prefers to sit back and let his Stand’s minions do the fighting for him; after all, an emperor should never be on the front lines of battle.
  • Fusion Dance: The minions created by Gates of Babylon can be fused with certain objects by inserting them into their bodies, giving them special properties. He uses this ability in R1 M20 to make electrified minions from pieces of car batteries, tank minions from concrete, rock and metal, and a minion that shoots boiling spicy water from a kettle, a radiator, a windshield cleaner jet, capsaicin from peppers, gas tank and water.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After being eliminated from the tournament in R3 M5, they share a genuine laugh at the absurdity of their situation and congratulate their opponents on their victory. Though already somewhat of a Noble Demon before this point, Niyaz seems to be fully dedicated to combating the corrupt higher-ups and uncovering the secrets of the tourney itself rather than his previously imperialist goals.
  • I Know Mortal Kombat: Playing Mario Kart Double Dash in the lead-up to R3 M5 helped Niyaz and Oscar to develop their vehicular teamwork; conveniently, R3 M5 was a Double Dash-style kart race in the actual Rainbow Road track from Mario Kart Wii. They lost the hardest of any group in that match by far.
  • It's All About Me: Niyaz can work in a team, provided that the other team members know he’s in charge. Otherwise, he is extremely self-absorbed and has regular bouts of maniacal self-aggrandisement.
  • Large Ham: Niyaz’s hamminess actually serves a practical purpose. He has an extremely loud voice that allows him to command the minions created by his Stand from very far away; this is useful because the minions can’t actually do anything without a verbal command.
  • Magnetic Hero: Niyaz has drawn a hell of a lot of Stand users to himself as La Horde Uniee's leader.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Early on, as "Mario" and "Luigi."
  • The Perfectionist: Despite constantly touting his art’s greatness, Oscar is actually very insecure about it. Everything else he can draw perfectly; however, his inability to draw hands is the one thing that stops him from achieving perfection, and it infuriates him to no end.
  • Portal Picture: The King of Limbs can pull people into pieces of art if Oscar catches them by surprise, and he can also enter artwork by pulling himself in.
  • Punch a Wall: Oscar punches a hole through drywall in the middle of his rant about hands in R1 M20.
  • Rebel Leader: Niyaz led an actual rebellion in Uzbekistan against the authoritarian Uzbek regime, leading to him becoming a fugitive.
  • Shout-Out: Oscar K Computer’s name is derived from the Radiohead album OK Computer; Niyaz’s connection to Genghis Khan is also inspired by Miike Snow’s song Genghis Khan.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: By the fifth round of the tourney, leads a faction with the intention of killing the higher-ups of Lyte off once and for all so they and their plans can never hurt people again.
  • Wicked Cultured: Niyaz always carries around a copy of Sun Tzu's Art of War and quotes from it regularly. He is also legitimately a genius, able to speak Turkish, Chinese and English fluently and is excellent at administration and battlefield tactics.

Mylo Xyloto - 「M.M.I.X」
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/myloxyloto_6.jpg

A renowned graffiti artist in Detroit and the former leader of the 21 Savages, Mylo first appeared as the Boss character for Match 30 of Round 1 against Colorado Blue and the White Rabbit on the rooftops of Detroit. After a fight with Oscar K Computer ends poorly, he joins his opponent, along with Niyaz Jamilev and Electric Grapevine, to form the Horde United. His Stand, [M.M.I.X.], is bound to any can of spray paint that he touches; its ability is to alter the “elevation” of surfaces with his spray paint on them, allowing him to create pillars, bridges and spikes from them at will.

  • Art Attacker: M.M.I.X. allows him to weaponise any graffiti tags that he creates within a 20m radius, extending them to smash into people at A Speed.
  • Cool Car: Hijacks a car in R1 M30 and uses M.M.I.X. to turn it into a spiked, armoured behemoth dubbed the UFO (or "Understand? Fuck Off!").
  • Death by Origin Story: His mother, Violet, was killed while protecting him from an angry businessman who caught Mylo stealing his wallet.
  • Determinator: No matter how many times he's beaten down, he always gets back up. This is partly why he managed to survive on the streets of Detroit by himself for so long (the other part being his Stand).
  • Establishing Character Moment: He is introduced in Match 30 berating his fellow gang members for failing to win any tags in the ARG, using his Stand to smash a disrespectful gang member in the face, and laughing at the members of his crew who were defeated by Colorado Blue, an actual bull.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Mylo is disgusted by the sale of the street drug XPLICIT, especially after it starts being sold in his home turf.
  • Fragile Speedster: Mylo has almost no strength and only average durability; he has to rely on his speed and manoeuvrability to stay alive.
  • Logical Weakness: If Mylo doesn't have access to any spray paint cans or graffiti tags within a 20m radius, his Stand can't activate and he's essentially defenceless.
  • Offscreen Momentof Awesome: Match 10 of Round 2 took place in the background of a fight between Mylo and fellow artist Oscar K. Computer. Mylo managed to fend off his opponent's army of constructs created from the carvings of the temple he was in long enough to find the tag.
  • Red Baron: Took on the moniker of Major Minus as a way of keeping himself anonymous as a graffiti artist.
  • Rollerblade Good: Rollerblades that flip out of his shoes are Mylo's main form of transportation. Being able to create platforms and surfaces to skate on out of anything amplifies his already-stellar rollerblading skills.
  • The Social Darwinist: Mylo believes that anybody who’s not strong enough to defend what’s theirs doesn’t deserve to have it. This is the main reason why he ends up not helping the 21 Savages against [m.A.A.d City].
"Fuck you!! I'm not helping anybody who's too fucking wimpy to get a little roughed up. Usually I wouldn't pass up a good fight, but no way in hell I'd let them get off easy after all that. Not a chance."
  • Shout-Out: To the Coldplay concept album Mylo Xyloto. His name, his Stand, his title of Major Minus, even the name of the souped-up car he uses in his debut match (UFO) are all named after songs from the album.
  • Spell My Name With An S: The "Y" in his first name causes some confusion in R2 M10:
Milo Aurel: "My name is Milo! He spells Mylo with a ‘y’ and I spell it with an ‘i’, like a normal person."
  • Tattooed Crook: He has several; "Hurts Like Heaven" across his forehead, "M.M.I.X." across his chest and (Knuckle Tattoos) spelling out "MAJOR" and a minus symbol.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Mylo's signature outfit lacks a shirt, with only bandoliers of spray paint cans covering his bare chest. Downplayed, since Mylo isn't as muscular or well-defined as most examples of this trope.

Mr Yes - 「The Who」 & 「Heart of the Sunrise」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mryes_0.png
The mysterious leader of the organization known as Who’s Next. He was the Boss of Round 2 Match 9, fighting against Tunde O’Santos and Eugene “Buggy” Baxter in the Saqqara Pyramid Complex in Cairo, Egypt. Mr Yes has access to two Stands, [Heart of the Sunrise] and [The Who]. [Heart of the Sunrise] is bound to an old-fashioned oil lamp in the shape of a globe; it can emit a cone of light with seven settings based on the electromagnetic spectrum (Radio, Microwave, Infrared, Visible, Ultraviolet, X-Ray and Gamma). [The Who] is an extremely powerful close-range Stand boasting high stats in Power, Speed and Durability. Its ability is Won’t Get Fooled Again; it can switch the user’s soul with a single target within 2 m of the user, killing its user’s old body and transferring itself to the user’s new body.

  • Ambiguous Gender: Seems to simply tend towards presenting as the gender of whoever's body they'd last stolen.
  • Artifact of Power: Heart of the Sunrise is a Stand that can pass from user to user, and Tunde and Buggy actually manage to steal it from Mr. Yes during the course of their match.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Thanks to the knowledge he’s gained from being in power for hundreds of years, he can very easily predict the character traits and possible actions of his enemies.
  • Badass Boast: Before his battle with Tunde and Buggy, Mr. Yes had this to say:
Mr Yes: "Who's Next has existed for centuries and will live on for longer than either of you can possibly imagine. The weight of an empire is on my shoulders, a lineage that has spanned the Western World, a history I inherited when I threw down an unworthy ruler all those years ago. As the leader of Who’s Next and wielder of 「The Who」, that history is my burden as well as my blessing. And you shall be crushed by it."
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: A navy blue one entirely covered with the word “YES”.
  • The Blank: The Who's face is a featureless black hole. While this prevents the Stand from being able to perceive anything by itself, it allows Mr Yes to stuff Heart of the Sunrise inside of it to keep it from being stolen, as well as have a place for his head to go when he uses The Who as protective armour.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: A major threatening force with his hands in the first few rounds of the tourney who ultimately decided it wasn't worth the trouble, retreating into the shadows of the underworld once again.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: His bio states that he went from a teen who joined Who’s Next in the eighties, to one of the head of one of the group’s four Quadrophenias, to the leader of the whole organisation after a coup in 2015. What actually happened was the original owner of the Who killed Mr Yes and took over his body, presumably sometime before joining Who's Next, and used his vast experience to quickly rise through the ranks of the organization.]]
  • Grand Theft Me: The Who’s true ability lets Mr. Yes pull this off to escape the players in Round 2 Match 9 by hijacking the body of Adele Fleming, fellow member of Who’s Next. By that point, the players are too exhausted from their battle to pursue him, allowing him to escape scot-free.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: A mysterious evil mastermind who has ruled Who's Next from the shadows for literal ages, and perhaps the most disconnected antagonist to ever briefly be relevant to the tourney.
  • Karma Houdini: He was resoundingly defeated and had Heart of the Sunrise stolen, yes, but in a newer, stronger body than ever, he's simply returned to the shadows to live as he always has...
  • Killed Off for Real: Well, kind of. The body of Mr Yes is killed in the aftermath of Round 2 Match 9 by The Who's ability; however, his soul still lives on in Adele Fleming's body.
  • Light 'em Up: Heart of the Sunrise is a unique variation of this trope, as it allows Mr. Yes to manipulate every form of light in the electromagnetic spectrum. The full list is as follows:
    • Radio: Lets user listen to any radio transmissions from within the cone.
    • Microwave: Boils water molecules in the cone at the rate of a microwave oven.
    • Infrared: Gives user infrared vision superimposed over their regular vision.
    • Visible: Basically a very high-powered flashlight.
    • Ultraviolet: Burns skin and eye cells exposed to the cone for an extended period of time.
    • X-Ray: Grants user X-Ray Vision of any area within the cone.
    • Gamma: It’s a cone of gamma radiation, with all of the harmful effects associated with it.
  • Lightning Bruiser: The Who. It's fast, powerful and insanely durable; itss only real weaknesses are a lack of range and not having its own senses due to a lack of facial features.
  • Lone Wolf Boss: Though other bosses also start off as the heads of their own distinct factions, he is the only one who never once aligns himself with another group.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: Downplayed. With all of his bones shattered by The Who coupled with the injuries the players have given him, he’s still able to give a lengthy exposition dump to them after they spare him. Also Justified, since it bought him enough time for Adele Fleming to arrive so that he could swap his soul with her and survive the match.
  • Power Incontinence: The Eminence Front technique, where Mr. Yes summons the body of The Who around himself as a suit of armour. Although it gives Mr Yes almost complete protection from harm thanks to The Who’s A DUR stat, since Mr. Yes’ body is so frail, the simple act of moving around causes his bones to snap under the A POW A SPD stress.
  • The Power of the Sun: The Visible setting of Heart of the Sunrise resembles the colours of a sunrise and effectively functions as intense sunlight.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Thanks to The Who’s soul swapping ability, Mr. Yes (or rather, the person inhabiting the body of Mr Yes) has been able to stay in a position of power in Who’s Next for 830 years.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Mr Yes has very little physical strength, moves very slowly and could be blown over by a stiff breeze. However, his power comes from his intellect and his ability to use his Stands in tandem with each other to devastating effect.
  • Xanatos Gambit: The outcome of Round 2 Match 9 was a win for him in every way. If he beat the players, he would have eliminated two potential threats to Who's Next and taken Tunde's body and stand for himself; if he didn't, he still would have been able to get a new, more physically capable body from Adele Fleming.

Pao de Queijo - 「Tribe Called Quest」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/paodequeijo.png
The leader of the Latin-American Gang XI Ith Street. Pao fought Gioia Arancini and Nico Wolfram as the Boss of R2 M19 in the villa that acted as the gang’s base somewhere outside Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her Stand, [Tribe Called Quest], can turn the world within its range of 20m into a High-Gravity Zone; the gravity in this zone increases from double Earth’s gravity at a rough rate of 1G per 45 seconds, affecting everything in range including Pao herself. It can also change the direction of gravity within 2 metres of its physical form.
  • Anti-Hero: Despite her brutality and less-than-legal methods, Pao has genuinely noble intentions; she formed XI Ith Street as a way to fight back against the corruption that she saw in the Brazilian slums she grew up in.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Her near-mythical reputation with the local law enforcement caused all kinda of outcasts and rebels to flock to her leadership.
  • Benevolent Boss: Gave all of her men a surprise day off so they could spend time with their families on a holiday. Mind you, this was also so that she could bait members of the Black Beetles to the now-empty headquarters and beat the absolute shit out of them. The way in which she treats the people in her care well was one of the reasons Gioia opted to spare her life.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: Her maxed out stats in all of her physicals? All a result of intense training using her Stand.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Inflicts one on the man who framed her for murder once she breaks out of prison. His body is found so mangled and crushed it looked as if he had been run over by a truck.
  • The Dreaded: When she escaped from prison, the guards that tried to stop her were all completely rooted to the spot; they couldn't even raise their guns. This was actually the effect of her Stand's ability, but the guards believed that they were all literally paralysed with fear.
  • Gravity Master: A unique example since she can only manipulate gravity by increasing it and/or redirecting it.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: Pao's plan to deal with Gioia was to grab her Stand by the ankles and beat her with her own Stand.
  • The Social Darwinist: Of a slightly different flavour than Mylo. She believes that Power, the ability to enact change on the world, is the only thing that matters; without it, ideals are completely useless.
  • Tranquil Fury: When Nico first meets Pao, he immediately notices that despite her somewhat calm exterior, she is absolutely furious.
"Emanating from her body, too, Nico felt a tidal wave of anger… Kept just barely beneath the surface. Not hidden... Contained, would be the better term."

Mr Ouija - 「Grey Album」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/greyalbum_min.png
The last line of defence for the vault belonging to the Black Beetles, fought by Demis Roussos and Hadrian Moore in R3 M6 in the organization’s innermost sanctum. [Grey Album] is the Stand of the deceased Mr. Ouija that has become automatic in the wake of its user’s death. Its main ability is to create and gift special rings to people. The two rings used in its boss match were the Rings of Domain, which signified a gang member’s high rank, and the Rings of Judgement. Grey Album can teleport to any Rings of Judgement in the area and sense the location of all rings of this type within range.
  • Clear My Name: Ouija was tried and wrongfully convicted for the murder of one of his friends because the cops needed someone to charge for the crime.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Every single one of Grey Album’s actions in its match was planned in advance by Mr Ouija before his death, even up to the types of attacks it could use.
  • Noble Demon: Mr Ouija and the Black Beetles as a whole have a strict code of only committing crimes for the right reasons and not harming innocents in the process.
  • Perpetual-Motion Monster: Being a Stand, Grey Album doesn’t have any of the drawbacks of a normal security guard.
  • Posthumous Character: Mr Ouija died long before the events of the tournament; however, his legacy (and his Stand) live on.
  • Ring of Power: Capable of granting these to other people. Only two are important for its match, but there are theoretically many more different types of rings it can create.
  • Sliding Scale of Robot Intelligence: Although Grey Album isn’t actually a robot, its intelligence is comparable to one; it takes orders based on a set of priority queues much like an actual artificial intelligence, and its processing power is explicitly compared to that of a supercomputer.
  • Teleport Spam: Throughout its fight, Grey Album constantly teleports between the Rings of Judgement placed around the arena, both to increase its mobility and clear its body of any gunk that might obscure its vision.
  • Truth Serum: One of the rings that it can create forces its bearers to tell the truth. Mr Ouija used this while he was behind bars to find other innocent men and break them out.

Tom Alcove - 「Money Trees」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tomalcove_min.png
The CFO (Chief Financial Officer) of Lyte Ltd. He served as the Boss of Round 3 Match 13, battling Kaito Yugihama and Noriko Yabuuchi on a beach-side highway in California. He was also one half of the boss team in R5 M1 alongside Pete Bennett, fighting Kaito Yugihama and Kris P. Bacon in the parking garage of Wilkinson Pharmaceuticals. His Stand, [Money Trees], is bound to a pen that Tom carries at all times; it can also shift into a humanoid form at will. Its primary ability is to create a magnetic field around metal objects that Tom points at with his pen’s laser pointer, or in a boundary created when Tom draws a loop with the pointer. He can click the pen to freely change the orientation of any object or field within 20m, as well as turn the magnetism of the object/field on, off and null (unable to be affected by the magnetism). In its humanoid form, [Money Trees] can create a special metal known as Money, similar to silver, which it can reshape, telekinetically move and define its magnetic field.
  • Action Dad: A proud father of one and an extremely capable Stand user.
  • Badass Bookworm: His desk job at Section 80 and Lyte Ltd haven’t dampened his combat abilities at all. In fact, it's actually improved it, as seen in his Office Acrobatics skill.
  • Badass Boast: Would have delivered one to the players in his boss match had he beaten them:
"「Risk」 is my job, my life, and I’m easily able to spot approaching 「risk」 in the distance...You brats, however, are different from that approaching threat. You presented no 「risk」 at all.”
  • Co-Dragons: One of the higher-ups of Lyte alongside Riko and Poplar.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Had this reaction to Pete's incredibly sexist joke in R5 M1.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Despite his cold and detached attitude towards his co-workers, he’s actually a polite, kind man who loves his son with all of his heart.
  • Expy: In combat, he was explicitly based on Vergil from Devil May Cry.
  • Fragile Speedster: His Stand possesses both incredible speed and very low durability in both forms.
  • Magnetism Manipulation: His Stand allows him to create and manipulate magnetic fields around objects.
  • Magnetic Weapons: By bending magnetised Money discs into a cylinder and placing a Money spike inside, Tom can fire what is essentially an improvised railgun with a click of his pen.
  • Married to the Job: Potentially the reason why his marriage fell apart. However, now that he has sole custody of his son, he actively tries to Defy this trope by devoting himself to his son on his days off.
  • Morph Weapon: Money Trees can shift its appearance from a pen to a humanoid figure, with different abilities associated with each form.
  • Orbiting Particle Shield: At the start of his match with Kaito and Noriko, he creates an orbiting barrier of swords made out of Money to block their attacks and turn himself into a human blender.
  • "Reason You Suck" Speech: Delivers one to Pete Bennett right before being ambushed by Kaito and Kris in R5 M1.
Tom: "The differences between you and me, Peter, are that I didn’t divorce my wife and dump all the responsibility of child-rearing onto her, because I decided it was too boring for me, and because I found gambling and going to strip clubs and being a deadbeat and throwing wasteful parties and being excessive to be much more interesting... And another thing. Selleck might be too optimistic, naive, and bloody stupid to not realize you’re desperate for the chance to become one of his elite, but I’m not...How’s his shoe leather taste, you bootlicker?!"
  • Shock and Awe: By rapidly rotating the magnetic fields created by Money Trees around objects with a click of his pen, Tom can use Faraday’s Law of Induction to induce electricity of at least C Power into any metal that he magnetises.
  • Swiss-Army Weapon: Money Trees can manipulate magnetic fields, as well as produce and telekinetically reshape a special metal; it's also a high-quality ballpoint pen that contains endless supplies of blue, red and black ink.

Poplar Street - 「Alarm Call」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/poplarstreet.png
Check your heartbeat against mine/But there's no trace of it this time (User art by Diminium, Stand art by Noodle) Click here to see Alarm Call
The former CEO of Genescan Ltd, now personal head of security for Nate Selleck and the origin of the tech behind Urban Uprising. Poplar served as the Boss of R4 M8, blackmailing Flint Howlett and Fighter Jet into killing him in a form of assisted suicide. His Stand, [Alarm Call], has a personality separate from its user and takes the form of a metallic three-headed hound which can split up into three separate robot dogs. The three dogs, named Unit 01, Unit 02 and Unit 03, have their own unique abilities and personalities; Unit 01 can heat up parts of their body and spit fire from its mouth, Unit 02 can electrify its head, limbs and tail, and Unit 03 can cool its body to extremely low temperatures. [Alarm Call] can also create and control a number of “Bugs”, sophisticated audio and visual information trackers which can cloak themselves if they remain stationary for long enough. The bugs can also create a sticky, sickeningly sweet-smelling pink liquid called “Dog Blood”; this substance is highly flammable, extremely electrically conductive and creates a wall of dry ice if it gets below a certain temperature.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Poplar’s accident resulted in him losing all four of his limbs, along with his left eye.
  • Death Seeker: Ever since his accident, he grew increasingly despondent over his inability to stop Nate’s plans. He eventually decided to offer himself as a test for Flint and Fighter. If they could kill him, they would prove that they could stand a chance against Nate and the rest of Lyte Ltd.
  • Fire, Ice, Lightning: Can be seen in the three abilities of Alarm Call’s units as well as the three properties of Dog Blood.
  • Freudian Trio: Unit 01 is the Id; loud, boastful and aggressive. Unit 02 is the Superego; a quiet schemer and the Stand’s main planner. Unit 03 is the Ego; detail-oriented and keeps the rest of the units on track.
  • Gilded Cage: The mansion that Poplar lives in was repurposed from Nate’s own mansion estate for the sole purpose of housing him. It’s obvious that Nate didn’t put much thought into the renovation; for example, all of his personal items, like his nerd paraphernalia, are still there, and Poplar has to cross through four other rooms if he wants to get to the main living space from his room.
  • Ignored Enamored Underling: Poplar had a years-long unrequited crush on Nate, possibly since he met him in college. This was one of the reasons he supported Nate for so long, even after Nate became oblivious to the consequences of his actions.
  • Invisibility Cloak: The Bugs are able to become completely invisible if they remain still for long enough.
  • Shout-Out: The design of Alarm Call was based off of Bladewolf's design from Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, right down to the chainsaw tail.
  • Unwitting Test Subject: While recovering from the accident that caused him to lose his limbs, a frantic Nate entered his room and forced a powder down his throat. Poplar unknowingly became the first ever human trial of the Stand drug XPLICIT, which gave him Alarm Call.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Water denatures Dog Blood into a harmless, edible substance called Pork Soda.

Pete Bennett - 「Pure Gold」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/peterbennett.png
It was getting tattoos, smoking cigarettes/It was Zig Zag papers, time to build a spliff/It was getting digits, kinda hit and miss/It was happiness, lies and kids, come on (art by u/Skelly-tan)

The CEO of Wilkinson Pharmaceuticals and one of the main supporters of Lyte’s scheme. He, along with Tom Alcove, acts as the boss of R5 M1, taking on Kaito Yugihama and Kris P. Bacon in the parking garage of his company’s headquarters. His Stand, [Pure Gold], wields mace-like weapons that double as powerful explosives, which can completely disintegrate any metal. Metal destroyed by the explosions can be used as material for a durable glass/plastic-like barrier.

  • Bald of Evil: One of the most amoral members of the cast of villains and, incidentally, the one with the least amount of hair.
  • Cigar Chomper: Always carries a pack of cigars with him (Cuban, obviously).
  • Foil: To Tom Alcove. On the outside, Tom is introverted, cold and callous, but loves his wife and his son deeply in secret. Pete, meanwhile, is outwardly friendly, cheerful and generous, yet is actually ruthless and bigoted behind closed doors.
  • Hate Sink: Pete was deliberately conceptualised as simply being an awful person without any of the complexity of the other boss characters.
  • Having a Blast: Pure Gold’s ability is based around causing B-Power explosions.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: He makes some very misogynistic jokes in the lead-up to R5 M1.
Pete: “Hey, I got a joke for ya. What do you call a woman who’s lost 95% of her intelligence? ...DIVORCED!”
  • Villain Team-Up: With Tom Alcove in his boss match; given Tom’s intense dislike of Pete, this is far more one-sided than Pete would have hoped.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Makes large and very public donations to charities, and stabs his business partners in the back on the regular.

Nate Selleck - 「MK Ultra」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nateselleckmk.png

CEO of Lyte Ltd, Governor of California and the creator of the Urban Uprising ARG. He served as the Boss of R5 M2, racing against Gioia Arancini and Tunde O'Santos to reach the server room on the top floor of Lyte HQ. [MK Ultra] can create holographic Panels which can store one “Property” and one “Method” of any object they enter in their own “Server”; “Properties” are the basic physical properties of objects (eg temperature, flexibility, weight, colour), and “Methods” are the primary functions of the objects (eg the “method” of a matchstick would be to catch fire when struck against something). If a blank Panel enters an object, the object will become a “Client” that can share the stored “Properties” and “Methods” of any given “Server”. Panels can also have simple “If/Then” statements programmed into them.

  • Action Politician: While he isn’t as physically capable as other instances of this trope, he’s still a decent fighter with an extremely versatile Stand.
  • Affably Evil: Nate is passionate, optimistic, charismatic and dedicated; he is also incredibly arrogant and dangerously stubborn.
  • Bait-and-Switch: In R5 M2, he is introduced standing in a dark corner, grinning and monologuing to himself about his hard work finally coming to fruition. Suddenly, a figure emerges from the shadows and he is struck by immense pain…only to reveal that he was standing in his kitchen over a plate of French Toast, and he was just surprised by his wife turning the lights on without telling him.
  • Big Bad: Plays this role for the first five rounds of Tournament 4, being personally responsible for the development and sale of XPLICIT and the deaths of hundreds as a result.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Ultimately, when fought, his plans unraveled quickly, having his attempt to spread Xplicit to the world stopped by Gioia and Tunde, then himself being killed afterwards by Hadrian with assistance from Demis.
  • Expy: Described as a mix between Todd Howard and Elon Musk.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Genuinely adores both his wife, Maria, and his two children.
  • Evil Plan: He developed a very detailed one in order to achieve his goals, the details of which are given below. (spoilered, obviously)

    • With the help of Wilkinson Pharmaceuticals and Maui Jim’s Stand ability, Nate mass-produced a drug which could give normal people the power to see Stands, as well as give a temporary boost to the abilities of Stand users that took it.
    • He then distributed this drug, given the street name of XPLICIT, onto the streets through criminal organisations like XI Ith Street, the Black Beetles and Who’s Next. This allowed him to use the people who took XPLICIT as unwilling test subjects, allowing him to further refine the drug into having no adverse side effects.
    • Once he obtained this refined XPLICIT, he would use his own Stand to copy its Stand-giving Method and embed it into a raincloud that could cover the entirety of California, causing its rainwater to give everyone it comes into contact with a Stand.
  • Meaningful Name: Nate Selleck = Natural Selection, tying into his belief in harnessing the power of Stands to bring about a new stage of evolution in humanity.
  • Mundane Utility: Nate programmed MK Ultra with a level of artificial intelligence and turned it into his personal AI Assistant.
  • Not Quite Flight: By copying the Method of a fire extinguisher with a Panel and embedding it into himself along with the weight of his lightest piece of clothing, Nate could use the sprayed extinguisher foam to propel himself forward in a technique dubbed “ultra.Rise()”.
  • Obliviously Evil: Thanks to his spoiled upbringing, he is completely ignorant of the consequences his mistakes has on other people, no matter how hurtful they are.
  • Utopia Justifies the Means: Nate honestly believes that by making everyone into Stand users, he will bring about a new golden age in human history. He doesn’t seem to know or even care about the hundreds of people that have died thanks to the refining process of XPLICIT.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: If he thinks that what he’s doing is beneficial to others, it becomes completely impossible to stop him from seeing it through.

Riko Pipopapo - 「Gossip Sea」

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/riko_george.png
Bashing someone’s not enough to make them flee/But if we keep the hate up, then they’ll be like “R.I.P.”/That twisted sense of 'justice’ which we defend is enough/To drive people to their end! (art by Boy George)

The Senior Social Media Manager of Lyte Ltd and the head Administrator of Urban Uprising, under the assumed identity of Andromeda. She battled Schioppo Fucile and MIA in a deserted Universal Studios in R5 M3. Her Stand, [Gossip Sea] (or Jesse, for short), allows Riko to “Push” anything into another object or into itself, forcing it underneath the surface of the object, where they will duplicate themselves at up to A Speed. Deactivating this ability causes the Pushed object and any of its duplicates to “Pop” out of the object they are stored in, shooting them out in every direction.

  • Anti-Villain: She’s really not a bad person; however, her allegiance to Lyte and Nate Selleck makes her an antagonist by default.
  • Bears Are Bad News: Gossip Sea takes the form of a bipedal, purple-furred bear who will fiercely and violently protect Riko from danger.
  • Berserk Button: Upon seeing MIA, the woman personally responsible for the brutal death of one of her co-workers, she flies into a panic-induced rage, kicking off the events of R5 M3.
  • Character Development: Initially, Riko was conceptualised as apathetic, selfish, and manipulative, who could easily flip between identities to suit her whims. However, after the traumatic events of R1 M20, dubbed the Istanbul Massacre, Riko became a much more sympathetic character, who suffered tremendously under the weight of managing Urban Uprising almost entirely by herself, as well as her general issues with anxiety and her own identity. A year after the end of the tournament, her mental health has significantly improved and she's grown as a person as well.
  • Fatal Flaw: Her tendency to jump to conclusions and lash out at perceived threats have caused her no end of grief.
  • Improvised Weapon: Riko turns several mundane objects from around Universal Studios into weapons in her match with Schioppo and MIA: trash, trash cans, coffee, Vape clouds, the air itself, lighter fluid, styrofoam, jelly beans, and even her Stand's own fingernail.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Gossip Sea is both incredibly fast and incredibly strong,
  • Meaningful Name: Riko takes her last name from Poppy Pipopapo from Kamen Rider Ex-Aid. Much like Riko’s role as Andromeda, Poppy is the mascot of the main villain’s ARG.
