For tropes pertaining to Future Knight, see the Basic Unique Heroes page.
For tropes regarding their more sinister and jaded counterpart, see the Demon World page.

  • Action Girl: The female Knight.
  • Artificial Human: Not confirmed, but there are a few moments that hint at the Knight being this trope. Notable ones include the apparition of Camilla talking to Lili in regards to their status in World 11, and the child Knight's side quest in the Slayers collab story showing they were Raised in a Lab.
  • Butt-Monkey: The Knight tends to be the butt of many jokes and target of most of the slapstick humor in the game.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: Played for Laughs. Several times, the Knight has the option to shamelessly flirt or suggest a romantic relationship in dialogue. This is just for flavor, of course, but it gets downright hilarious when you keep insisting that the Knight is the ex-lover of Beth or keep declaring your intent to marry Priscilla (even to the girl's father's face, no less).
  • The Chosen One: The Knight is the first of the 13 Champions to be found. Even among the Champions, the Knight is particularly special as they're the intended wielder of the Champion's Sword itself and the only one able to draw it from its resting place. Even without using the sword, their innate connection to it grants them some access to its powers.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: No matter where they are or how seemingly irrelevant the problem is, the Knight will almost always get involved in solving whatever ails the populace.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Despite being a knight and generally heroic, they don't have near enough honor to be above using underhanded tactics like beating unprepared enemies senseless or shooting down fleeing opponents.
  • Connected All Along: World 11 reveals that the Knight has been with the Princess since she was a baby.
  • Cool Big Sis: The Knight acts more like a substitute elder sibling to the Little Princess than a vassal.
  • Crossdressing Voices: The male knight is voiced by a female voice actor (Yuu Kobayashi) in the Global version's Japanese voice pack. Averted in the actual Japanese release of the game where she gets replaced by Yuki Ono.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: The Knight is usually portrayed as dim and carefree in-story, but shows incredible aptitude for combat and can adapt to all the bizarre situations they find themselves in easily. They can also be surprisingly devious when they put their mind to it. The Other Knight, a version of them from a previous timeline, displays that the Knight has the potential to be a dangerously competent schemer with the right motivation.
  • De-power: They lost the bulk of their power before the plot even began without their knowledge. This reduces them from starting their journey as a superhuman able to easily kill the Dark Magician to a basic recruit barely a match for some of the weakest troops in the Invader army. They are implied to be slowly regaining their power as they find the 12 Champions.
  • The Dreaded: The Knight's actions are not lost on the Invaders, who slowly begin to focus their effort on killing the Knight they realize the threat the Knight presents. At one point, they expend a massive amount of resources to banish the Knight elsewhere in space-time just to avoid the risk of fighting the Knight directly. When the Knight gets deposited 10 years into the future, their actions cause so much damage to the Invaders that the Dark Magician pulls out all the stops just to have a chance to kill them.
  • Ensign Newbie: They become the de-facto head of what remains of the Guardians after the prologue despite only being formally inducted into the ranks in the same scene. Three surviving senior Guardians are eventually recovered, but they decide to let their junior member continue spearheading the anti-Invader efforts.
  • Fantasy Keepsake: In 15-18, even though all of the clones were Just A Dream, the colored helmets of all seven Knight clones are seen on the ground near where the cloning device was after they wake up.
  • Foreshadowing: Several times throughout the game, characters who are more mystically aware note that something about the Knight is very strange on a fundamental level. During the events of Folktale, one of the Underworld's Grim Reapers, Yuna, was so unnerved by the Knight's presence that she panicked and fled saying she has no idea what they are.
  • Game-Favored Gender: The game's promotional material heavily features the female Knight, she is the character in the game's opening video, and the Alternate Timeline Knight is explicitly female. The male Knight still gets quite a bit of screen time in the side stories, their Super Costume features the male Knight, and the Other Knight is portrayed as male in World 13's promo art.
  • Gatling Good (for the enemy team): Enemy Knights in areas such as Kamazone and Orbital Lift occasionally come with gatling guns that have a rather infuriating tendency to shred through targets in a single clip. This is the same gatling gun that is a simple unique-tier weapon in player's hands and thus is unlikely to be used.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: They're the main hero of the story with notable blonde hair.
  • Hard Work Hardly Works: In less than a year after being inducted into the Guardians, the Knight grows to surpass their far more experienced superiors and defeat monsters who have been active for centuries. This rapid growth in strength is explicitly noted to be abnormal by characters in-story and left some of their most powerful opponents deeply unnerved when facing what should be a fairly normal person. The Other Knight showed that they were never an ordinary person. If anything, their growth in power has been severely stunted.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: A name that can't be changed once you've chosen it. Averted in later updates with the game allowing you to change your name in exchange for (paid) premium currency.
  • Helmets Are Hardly Heroic: Downplayed, but they are the only Kanterbury Guardian that doesn't have their visor down.
  • The Hero: The main character of the story.
  • Heroic Mime: The Knight communicates almost entirely through pantomime outside of the occasional multiple-choice text box. This stays true even when they're relegated to NPC status as seen in the When You Wish Upon a Star short story. As shown in the Slayers NEXT collab story, they've always been this way ever since they were a child. Averted in the Japanese 4-koma webcomic, where the female Knight is shown to be capable of speaking, and with their alternate self from an earlier timeline.
  • Hope Bringer: Thanks to leading the only resistance force to the Invaders that has a meaningful impact on their operations, the Knight slowly becomes this to the populace. The Invader leadership take notice of this and decided to get rid of them directly, leading to the events of the Unrecorded World.
    • They play this part in the Unrecorded World more blatantly. In roughly a month after returning, they turn the hopeless situation around completely and crush the Invader leadership that were on the cusp of total victory.
  • I See Dead People: The Knight is innately sensitive to spiritual beings and can interact with them at times.
  • Idiot Hero: Characters often say the Knight is dumb and they're shown as very easily distracted on their missions, even sometimes forgetting they're in danger entirely. Though they can be much more competent than they seem when the situation calls for it.
  • Instant Expert: The Knight has an uncanny ability quickly learn any skill needed in their adventures. From manipulating technology, to martial arts, to outright magic, they'll figure out whatever they need in a short time.
  • Made of Iron: They can shrug off hits that would kill a normal person. Which is very helpful as they tend to take as much abuse for comedy as they do in battle.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: The only weapon classes that the Knight can't use are the magic-related Staff and Basket weapons. All physical weapons (outside of Gauntlets) are fair game.
  • Magnetic Hero: They usually manage to earn the respect of at least one character in every story chapter and have that person join them in their quest.
  • Morph Weapon: Their Exclusive weapon, Libera, is capable of shape-shifting. Its current forms are a one-handed sword and a bow. Although the player cannot voluntarily transform the weapon in gameplay, this is an actual ability the Knight possesses as seen when the Other Guardian does it in World 13 and then again in World 14 when our Knight does it themselves fighting Demon God Belial. The transformation method? Why, call down lightning to strike the weapon, naturally.
    • World 18 one-ups this during the battle with Kaden: now wielding a powered up Champion's Sword, they can morph the legendary blade into an equally legendary bow at will!
  • No-Respect Guy: Despite their accomplishments, the Knight almost never gets any recognition for their efforts. Usually only their closest friends offer any real respect while most others refuse to believe they aren't just a goofy nobody. Averted in After World Inc. where the staggering amount of soul energy their good deeds in life produced (more than enough to max out the soul energy meter) made the Knight an instant celebrity to the souls there. Said respect is immediately lost when they’re scammed into massive karmic debt the day after arriving.
    • This reaches the point that the Knight is consistently insulted as being "dumb-faced" by nearly every person they meet, but once the Knight shows their competence and takes to problem-solving, they quickly become respected by those around them.
  • The Pollyanna: Nothing seems to dampen their spirits for long.
  • Power-Up Letdown: There's a vending machine in Heavenhold that gives you a free Libera. The problem is that the point cost is so high that it can take months before you can claim itnote  by which point you have likely phased the Knight out of most parties entirely and have obtained a first copy of Libera from elsewhere.
  • Power Limiter: The Knight is much weaker than they should be. For unknown reasons, most of the power they would normally have is held dormant in the Little Princess. To put their weakness into perspective: flashbacks from the perspective of their Other Knight counterpart from a timeline without the Little Princess show them starting their adventure at the equivalent of level 83 and casually summoning Libera's lighting unarmed.
  • Purely Aesthetic Gender: Gender doesn't affect the gameplay. Notably, in the Succubus sub-quest, the succubi refer to your character as a Mister even though you're playing with the female Knight. A later update even gives players the option to change the Knight's gender at any time, two years after the game came out. The alternate version of the Knight first seen in World 12 is the opposite gender of the one you've chosen.
  • Raised in a Lab: The Slayer's NEXT story shows that the Knight spent their childhood in a lab beneath Kanterbury's capital city, raised by the scientists studying them for unknown reasons. They were seemingly only allowed to freely leave it by their early adulthood to join the Guardians.
  • Sadistic Choice: In World 16, they are faced with the decision to either Mercy Kill Camilla to prevent Lili from possessing her, or spare her, which would instead allow Lili to kill the Little Princess.
  • Shock and Awe: Libera's weapon skill blasts nearby enemies with lightning.
  • Smarter Than You Look: They're usually treated as dim at best, but occasionally show that they're much craftier and have more intellectual ability than they let on.
  • Spanner in the Works: The Knight has an uncanny ability to be this in practically every scheme ever. Even when they fall victim to someone's plot, they eventually find a way to turn it around and ruin all of those plots until the latest antagonist has no other choice but to face off directly with the Knight. The Knight has even been shown to be somehow resistant to time loops, as unlike almost everyone else in Demonshire, they perfectly remembered every time loop they experienced. Needless to say, their presence causes the loop to start diverging very fast every time.
  • Stepford Smiler: World 16 reveals that the Knight is a lot less confident and more aware of the sheer weight of their responsibilities than they seem. The words of Camilla and their other self hit them particularly hard as they hit their greatest fear: that they aren't qualified to be the one to save the world.
  • 13 Is Unlucky: The Knight represents the 13th Champion who has always suffered a dark fate and apparently has other ominous connotations that set them apart from the other twelve.
  • To Hell and Back: In the After World Inc. side story, they end up in the After World after choking on a bell pepper and dying from it. Turns out the afterlife has become a vacation spot for the dead, and that they spend how much their good deeds amounted to for their own amusement before they're reincarnated as a new person. Of course, being someone with a bigger destiny than getting sent back to the cycle of reincarnation too early, they eventually opt to return to the living. With the help of some familiar but dead friends of course.
  • Undignified Death: In After World Inc.. The Guardian Knight famously known for being able to push back the Invaders, giving hope to the masses, and being capable of dancing with the strongest of foes, gets done in by a green bell pepper they ate for the picky Little Princess.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Kanterbury as a whole and the Little Princess in particular. The Knight always jumps to her defense whenever she is challenged.
  • Walking Armory: The Knight is able to equip four different weapon typesnote , although the exclusive weapon the Knight gets favors Knightly Sword and Shield.
  • Wall Crawl: Does this is 13-7, climbing the vertical glass walls of Lilith Tower to reach the top floor.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Being the hero of the story sucks when you're weak to Dark, a rather common element amongst the main enemy force.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: In World 17, a Side Quest has them act in place of Lilith in an obvious Saul Propaganda Piece. Even if they are male, this is never treated as bad or unbecoming. Incidentally, this is also the sidequest were you get said costume.
  • You Are in Command Now: The Knight was a fresh Guardian recruit that had just graduated from basic training when the Invaders arrived. They were left to lead the effort to re-take Kanterbury and the world from the Invader threat as everyone who outranked them or was otherwise more qualified was either scattered, deserted, or killed in the first attack.

    The Little Princess
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/princess_gt.png
"I believe in my Guardian."
The Princess of the Kanterbury Kingdom and Queen Camilla's younger sister. She becomes the Knight's adventure companion after the fall of Kanterbury, as the Knight begins their quest to seek the 12 Champions, reclaim the kingdom, and save the world. As the quest goes on though, it seems as though there is more to her existence than meets the eye.
Species: Human
Age: 10
Voiced by: Rie Kugimiya (Japanese), Giselle Fernandez (English), Jung Hyewon (Korean)

For tropes pertaining to Future Princess, see the Light Unique Heroes page.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: The end of Chapter 11 shows that the other children of Heavenhold tend to either ignore her or bully her when they think the Knight isn't around.
  • Big Sister Worship: Camilla is her main role model in life. The only one who comes close to being as important or respected to her is the Knight. This causes her no end of grief when the two come into conflict in World 16.
  • A Birthday, Not a Break: A lighter example. In the Slayers collab story, it's revealed that on her first birthday, an earthquake suddenly struck Kanterbury. At around the same time, Lina and her party suddenly found themselves in Kanterbury Forest, unaware that they brought the Mazoku with them too.
  • A Day in the Limelight: World 6 Nightmare is played entirely as the Princess after she gets hit with a Forced Transformation and is shrunk. She's also the focus character of World 10 Nightmare, although it's actually Future Princess's story and how she became the way she is.
  • Authority in Name Only: As a princess, she technically outranks almost everyone else in Heavenhold. In practice, the Knight, Lorraine, and eventually Eva call most of the shots as the Little Princess is too young to handle the responsibility of her title let alone manage a war.
  • Break the Cutie: Finally reaches her breaking point at the end of World 16, as Camilla commits suicide in order to stop Lili from using her body to perpetuate the prophetic cycle, right in front of her eyes. She broke so badly that her despair somehow also broke the Champion's Sword itself, seemingly transferring its ownership, and the controls to Heavenhold by proxy, to her instead of the Knight, its rightful owner.
  • Cheerful Child: She's usually running around on Heavenhold playing and trying to keep everyone's spirits up.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Whenever she goes off on her trips, at least one character fawns over her cuteness.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Is this when it comes to bell peppers, which is what kicks off the events of both World 6 Nightmare and the After World Inc. side story.
  • Emotional Powers: So far, her hidden magic has only revealed itself when she's placed in situations that invoke extreme emotion, particularly when she sees that her friends and/or family are in danger.
  • Everyone's Baby Sister: The main heroes of Heavenhold all treat her like family and she returns the sentiment.
  • Expy: A female child character being taken care of by the main character? Beloved by everyone that knows her? Has dormant power sleeping inside her? Her mysterious identity is a focus point of the story? Voiced by Rie Kugimiya? Sure we're not talking about KeA?
  • Extremely Protective Child: She's a little girl with no notable combat skills or training, but is more than willing to put her life on the line to help protect her loved ones despite it all. She's especially protective of the Knight, as she considers them the closest thing to family she has left.
  • Friend to All Living Things: She bonds with animals easily. The normally surly White Beast will attack the Knight at the slightest provocation, but immediately became tame for her.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: She joins the Knight in their battle against the Other Knight during the climax of World 13, and she accompanies the Knight into battle again during their infiltration of an Invader battleship in World 15. Her "fighting prowess" is what you would expect from an untrained 10-year-old princess fighting using an autographed baseball bat, which is why she mostly sticks to supporting the Knight in battle by healing them with gems.
  • Hero-Worshipper: She looks up to the Knight and never loses faith in them.
  • Heroic Suicide: Attempted near the conclusion of World 18: Upon realizing that she is acts as a Power Limiter for the Knight as alluded to in the above subsection, she had decided to sacrifice herself, pooling her power in the Champion's Sword and transferring it to the Knight, revitalizing them and giving them the power to defeat the Plague Doctor. Fortunately, after his defeat, the Plague Doctor found that the only way he could achieve his goals now was to help the Knight reverse her fate using what was left of his ability.
  • Immune to Fate: The universe has repeated events countless times before, with all other characters having a "role" set out for them in the order of events. The Little Princess, however, is an anomaly in the intended order with no "role" to fill. This allows her to act of her own volition, as she basically threw the usual "plot" off the rails just by existing.
  • Incorruptible Pure Pureness: She's seen a lot more war and death than any child should, but never lost her innocence and kindness. This helps to endear her to the various heroes a motivates them to fight harder.
  • Leitmotif: Little Princess. A variation of the same theme plays during the early parts of World 12 and World 11 Nightmare.
  • Lotus-Eater Machine: Her screentime in World 17 involves this. She unwittingly subjects herself into one due to the Break the Cutie moment in World 16 where she sees her sister die before her very eyes. She broke so badly she unknowingly managed to usurp control of the Champion's Sword from the Knight, giving her authority over Heavenhold. After the Knight gets thrown back to the Demon World, Heavenhold teleports out of the realm and creates a simulation of a peaceful Kanterbury where the Princess lives a "normal" life with her sister, with the former never realizing it was all fake until her regaining her memories with the Knight due to glitches in the system help her snap back to reality and gain access to the floating castle's Humongous Mecha mode, just in time for the gargantuan battle with the newly-formed Labose monster.
  • Modest Royalty: She's a royal and the Knight is technically just her servant, but she prefers to act and be treated like an ordinary young girl. She happily interacts with commoners as equals and barely acknowledges her status as royalty. She especially looks up to the Knight, seeing them as an elder sibling rather than a vassal.
  • Morality Pet: She acts as one to the Knight. While the Knight is naturally inclined to heroism, much of their motivation for persevering throughout the trials and humiliations of their journey stems from their desire to protect the Little Princess and keep her happy. Flashbacks to the Other Knight's past show show that the Knight would have been much more arrogant and self-centered without the Little Princess around to keep them grounded.
  • No Name Given: Only referred to as the Princess. The only times she mentions her name is met with the screen blacking out for the brief time period she says her name.
  • Paradox Person: Several characters who are more aware of the world's true nature, namely the Savior and the Other Knight, have commented that the Little Princess is a complete anomaly. According to them, she has never existed in any of the myriad iterations of the universe prior to this loop and shouldn't be around in this one at all. Her mere presence is unwittingly throwing off the intended "story", setting events on an unknowably trajectory for the first time in a very long while. Her unique nature has made the Little Princess an object of great interest to the Savior who sees her as his best chance to finally escape the destiny that he's been chained to for so long.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: As shown in the game's prologue where she manages to chain the monster that defeated the Knight, Eva, and Camilla, all by her own powers. Then near the ending of World 13, she unconsciously manages to reverse the effects of a bio-weapon that would have surely killed almost everyone in Lilith Tower (including the Knight, Other Knight, Beth, and Lilith) using her powers. She loses her memories of the events of World 12-13 afterwards though. Subverted in World 10 Nightmare and the final boss fight of World 13: A 10-year-old trying to beat up Invaders with a battleball bat is about as effective as one would expect, but she does provide decent battle support to the Knight by healing them with gems and distracting casters. During Phase 1 of the World 13 final boss until she gets incapacitated, with the Other Knight throwing her towards a wall when she tried to sneak attack them, knocking her out for the duration of the fight.
  • Power Limiter: She is one to the Knight, as implied in World 11 Nightmare by the Savior. Her existence somehow limits the Knight's affinity with the Champion's Sword, preventing them from growing as strong as they should have been (shown by the Other Knight's abilities). She unknowingly contains most of this lost power within herself, but can only use any of it as an unconscious defense mechanism.
  • Power-Strain Blackout: Whenever she taps in to her hidden magical power, she loses consciousness immediately after. When she wakes up, she has no memory of what she did during the outburst. Her future counterpart seems to have learned how to harness at least some of her innate magic without this risk, implying that the current Little Princess could eventually learn to do the same.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: She does far more to help the war effort than a princess, let alone one who is still an untrained little girl, could be expected to. She isn't much use in combat, but she's constantly finding Star Pieces in the various worlds and currency to give the Knight in Heavenhold. On the occasions she tags along, she does her very best to help the Knight.
  • Spanner in the Works: Several times over. Her existence weakened the Knight's connection with the Champion's Sword and forced the timeline off track which has led to countless other iterations of the world ending in disaster. Her alternate future self was the only reason the weakened Knight survived the initial Invader attack. Later, her intervention and unconscious use of her powers was the only thing that saved the lives of the Knight, Beth, Erina, and Lilith when the Other Knight unleashed a biological weapon on them.
  • Stepford Smiler: Despite her generally cheery disposition, it's occasionally shown that she holds back a lot of her sorrow from losing her home and sister.
  • Token Mini-Moe: Currently the only Everyone's Baby Sister type among the main character group. The Champions and other main heroes aside from the White Beast are all adults.
  • Undying Loyalty: No matter what, she always has faith in her guardian, the Knight.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: The Princess occasionally shows that she's far more capable and understanding than a child her age would be expected to be.
  • Wrench Wench: She took lessons from Sohee and Marianne to get a handle on advanced technology as a way to help the Knight on their adventures.

    Queen Camilla (SPOILER WARNING)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/camilla_5.png
"I know it must be scary for you. But we have to keep our people safe. Just like our honorable ancestors did."
SPOILER FOR WORLD 15 AND BEYOND
The Queen of the Kanterbury Kingdom and elder sister of the Little Princess.
Species: Human
Voiced by: Yume Maihara (Japanese), Laura Stahl (English)

For tropes pertaining to what she became after defecting to the Invaders, see Dark Unique Heroes page.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Her younger sister calls her Cammie.
  • Beneath the Mask: Her bio reveals that beneath her image as a warm-hearted queen is a tired, cynical woman resentful of the weight placed on her at far too young of an age.
  • Evil Costume Switch: She trades out her fancy pink dress for a skin-tight, revealing suit when she is revealed as the Invaders' 1st Corps Commander at the end of Chapter 15.
  • Foreshadowing: In regards to her Face–Heel Turn, visiting the 1st Corps Commander's Room before fighting Jerry Little Volt counts as this, as players may be able to surmise the Commander's true identity early from reading the documents left inside and from obtaining a silver heart-shaped locket... with a photo of the Little Princess with "someone else" inside.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: She's willing to go to dark places to do what she feels is her duty. She was the one who ordered the Knight to be confined to a lab in their childhood to study them for any sign of the powers the prophecy stated they should have. By the time of the story, she fully descended into these tendencies and willingly aided the Invaders for the chance to use their power to save the world.
  • Practically Different Generations: While her age is never specified, the Slayers crossover event shows a younger Camilla in her ruling as queen in her mid-to-late-teens at the time of the Little Princess' first birthday.
  • Promotion to Parent: She acted more like a mother than an older sister to the Little Princess thanks to the large age gap between the two. The sisters' parents are never mentioned in the story but are presumed to have died at some point during the Little Princess's infancy: Camilla was already queen by the time of her sister's first birthday.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Diary entries found in her room in the Invader Queenship suggest that Queen Camilla may be way older than she seemed to appear, given that the first entry was noted to be written in A.H. 281, around 221 years before the events of the game.
  • Secret-Keeper: She could hold the answers to both the Knight's and the Little Princess's true nature and destinies judging from visions shown in both the normal and Nightmare stories of World 11, but she was Put on a Bus for a whole season until her Face–Heel Turn reveal at the end of World 15.
  • Suddenly Voiced: As a result of the Japanese version adding partial voice acting for the Prologue and Chapter 1. In the Global and Korean versions pre-JP launch, she was never given a voice. When she was released as the 1st Corps Commander as a playable character, she is finally voiced in the Global and Korean versions.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: She joined forces with the Invaders and attacked the Demon World to save her little sister and stop the loop of the world by the prophecy, it's just the way she does this happens to include brainwashing the Champions, killing the Knight and taking their place as hero. When the Knight proves to be too much for her, she performs an Heroic Sacrifice by taking herself out with Queen Lili, breaking the prophecy... And the Little Princess in the process.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: For most of the game, her fate after the prologue is left unknown. The ending of World 15 would later reveal her to be the Invaders' 1st Corps Commander. In World 16, It turns out that she joined the Invaders for her own volition to prevent the prophecy from coming true.
  • Young and in Charge: She is a young woman now, but has ruled Kanterbury since her mid-teens.

    Knight Captain Eva
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/evagl.png
Glory to Kanterbury!
JP artwork
The 19th captain of the Kanterbury guardians. Born weak but talented in magic, she chose to become a guardian, defying everyone's expectations of her becoming a wizard. She completely transformed the guardians into the strictly merit-based hierarchy where anyone, whether he/she is a noble or a peasant, can rise to higher ranks.
Rarity: 2-star
Species: Human
Age: 29
Height and weight: 171cm/54kg
Element: Light
Role: Ranged
Exclusive Weapon: Justice
Voiced by: Ryōka Yuzuki (Japanese), Alex Ryan (English), Eugene Yang (Korean)
Illustrator: Wonchun Choi (GL/KR), イコモチ (JP)

For tropes pertaining to Idol Captain Eva, see the Basic Unique Heroes page.

  • Action Girl: Being frail and unsuited for the frontlines never stopped Eva from rising through the ranks to where she is now. She can even fight enemies while in her idol get-up.
  • Amnesiac Hero: After her separation from the Knight and Little Princess, she lost her memories and was taken in by a group of cultists of Desert Kingdom. A subquest is dedicated to the Knight getting her memories back and taking her away from the cult.
  • Determinator: She overcame lifelong physical weakness and not only became the captain of the Guardians but turned them into honorable knights all through raw effort and a stubborn refusal to give up.
  • The Dreaded: Invaders that face her in the story break down in sheer terror after seeing her power in action.
  • Given Name Reveal: Her full name is only given once at the "credits roll" that appear at the end of Prologue: Eva Dealsalot. All the characters in the story only refer to Eva by her first name, or by her Captain title.
  • Hotblooded: The Slayers NEXT event showed that Eva was quick to attack any assumed threat to Kanterbury and outright reckless in challenging opponents when she was a rookie Guardian. She apparently grew out of it, becoming more cautious and patient with age and experience, by the point where the story began.
  • Internal Reformist: She rose through the ranks of the formerly corrupt and elitist Guardians to reform them into an honest, efficient fighting force that allows anyone to climb the ranks through merit alone, regardless of societal station.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: In both attitude and appearance. However, instead of the standard sword, her weapon of choice is a mage's staff, which alludes to her high affinity for magic.
  • Mentor Archetype: She was the Knight's instructor in the prologue, but didn't have the opportunity to teach much before the invasion. She gets back to instructing the Knight during exploration missions. She also served as the Princess' combat instructor during the time skip to Chapter 10.
  • Mighty Glacier: Eva can do some damage to opponents, but can't move or even turn while attacking. Her lack of mobility combined with her innate squishiness means she's best used as a living turret in the far back or she will be overwhelmed quickly.
  • A Mother to Her Men: She will go to extremes to help her subordinates and Kanterbury as a whole. Even going so far as to "disguise" herself and become a pop idol just to lift their spirits up in dark times.
  • Not So Above It All: Eva comes off as a mature, powerful, and wise leader, but the "reasoning" she took in designing her "secret identity" and occasional insistence on singing orders proves she isn't beyond a little silliness at times.
  • Number Two: She was Queen Camilla's closest friend and confidant.
  • Parental Substitute: She acts as a teacher and protector for the Little Princess when she is able. She often goes out of her way to watch over her as much as her duties allow. She even cooks for the Little Princess during holidays and plays with her when young girl when she gets lonely. Her alternate counterpart was the one who taught Future Princess how to fight in the Unrecorded World.
  • Quickly-Demoted Leader: She was the leader of the Guardians in the beginning before events of the prologue saw the organization effectively dissolve. Even after rejoining, she defers to the Knight instead of trying to establish her authority outside of exploration missions.
  • Sacrificial Lion: Is killed off by an Invader attack around nine years into world 10's Time Skip.
  • Squishy Wizard: She was born lacking physically, but had notable affinity for magic. Even after a lifetime of training, she's still relatively frail without her spells.
  • Storm of Blades: Her attacks are similar to the Gate of Babylon.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She is a tough, no-nonsense commander and warrior, but she loves singing and entertaining others. She combines both and wears a pink and white dress while singing pop songs in her Idol Captain guise, albeit with some embarrassment. She's also shown to be a good cook in an animated side story.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Kanterbury as a whole and the Royal family in particular. She had a close personal friendship with Queen Camilla before she went missing.

    Linda the Senior Guardian
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/linda_86.png
A senior member of the Guardians and one of the first characters you meet in the story. The daughter of a hunter, she is a strict mentor but has a secret, kind side and doesn't hesitate to help her juniors when they are in need.
Rarity: 1-star
Species: Human
Age: 28
Height and weight: 167cm/50kg
Element: Basic
Role: Ranged

  • Human Resources: In the Unrecorded World, this is what happens to her as for some reason or another. She ends up being the power source behind the Beta Weapon's invulnerability shield. To actually have a shot at beating it, you have to find the tube she is in and put her out of her misery... by giving her Bob's Ring from an earlier stage, and allowing her to finally die in peace.
  • Mauve Shirt: She's only a one-star adventurer and isn't said to be especially skilled by Guardian standards, but is one of the only rank-and-file Guardians to survive the initial invasion and last to the story. She remains mostly irrelevant to the plot and rarely gets to interact with other characters besides Bob.
  • The Mentor: Linda likes to take younger rookie Guardians under her wing to help them adjust to their duties faster. She did this even as a rookie herself with trainees like Bob.
  • Official Couple: She and Bob are confirmed to have been in a relationship in the Unrecorded World. How much this extends to the current timeline is left ambiguous. The Slayers NEXT event shows the two have shared a mutual attraction to each other for over a decade by the time the story began.
  • Those Two Guys: She and Bob survived the fall of Kanterbury together. They go on to have very minor roles in the following events while rarely being apart from each other.
  • Tsundere: She acts tough and no-nonsense, but secretly puts little boxes of cookies in the lockers of every single Guardians member. She denies it when asked.

    Guardian Member Bob
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bob_93.png
A member of the Guardians and one of the first characters you meet in the story. Being a person who is scared easily, he trained himself hard in hopes of becoming a strong and brave knight.
Rarity: 1-star
Species: Human
Age: 26
Height and weight: 170cm/65kg
Element: Basic
Role: Ranged

  • Character Death: He's the corpse you see in the endless hall in Unrecorded World 11-2. Retrieving his ring from his body allows you to help Linda pass on in the following stage 11-5.
  • The Generic Guy: Bob is remarkable for being unremarkable. He's a standard Guardian with few notable accomplishments who only survived the invasion of Kanterbury thanks to the Knight and Linda protecting him. He doesn't display much of a distinct personality beyond being a Nice Guy dedicated to his duty and being infatuated with Linda.
  • Mauve Shirt: He's only a one-star adventurer and isn't noted as anything special as Guardian, but is one of the only rank-and-file Guardians to survive the initial invasion and last to the story. He remains mostly irrelevant to the plot and rarely gets to interact with the other characters besides Linda.
  • Memetic Badass: A minor one, born after someone managed to beat the final boss of world 10 with a level 1 Bob.note
  • Official Couple: He and Linda are confirmed to have been romantically involved in the Unrecorded World. How much this extends to the current timeline is left ambiguous. The Slayers NEXT event shows that the two have shared a mutual attraction to each other for over a decade by the time of the story. The main reason he joined the Guardians in the first place was to be close to Linda who he already has a crush on at the time.
  • Those Two Guys: He and Linda survived the fall of Kanterbury together. They go on to have very minor roles in the following events while rarely being apart from each other.

Kanterbury Forest

    Innkeeper Loraine
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lorainegl.png
No need to get so edgy. We already killed each other once, didn't we?
JP artwork
The owner of the Kanterbury Inn, which is well-known among adventurers for its high-quality services. Though she will always greet you with a smile full of kindness, hidden beneath is a hint of darkness and a girl shrouded in mystery.
Rarity: 2-star
Species: ?
Age: ?
Height and weight: 165cm/56kg
Element: Basic
Role: Support
Exclusive Weapon: Emma
Voiced by: Kana Ueda (Japanese), Larissa Gallagher (English), Gwak Gyu-mi (Korean)
Illustrator: Wonchun Choi (GL/KR), famy (JP)

For tropes pertaining to Summer Innkeeper Loraine, see the Basic Unique Heroes page.

  • All There in the Manual: Her origins as "Labose" is only talked about extensively in the lore rooms of the Orbital Lift mode of the game. As of World 14, there has been no mention of "Labose" in the main story outside of World 11.
    • Of course, as of World 17, she explicitly states that she is an Artificial Human created by none other than the hero Kaden himself.
  • Ambiguously Evil: She has a very sinister streak shown throughout the game despite acting as the main helper of the Knight and Little Princess. Kanterbury Forest (Nightmare) shows this very well.
  • Artificial Human: After the first Chapter, Loraine barely pretends to be a real human. She's basically a fragment of the man-made bacteria Labose that has gained sentience, and was created by Kaden, by her own admission.
  • But Thou Must!: At the end of chapter 1, you're given the option of having Loraine join you or kicking her out. Picking the second option kicks her off Heavenhold entirely... and then a fresh Loraine clone pops out of the inn and offers the same choice until the player accepts her offer. She pulls the same stunt in world 11.
  • Canon Immigrant: Subverted. There was a woman named "Loraine", who had the same face and worked as an innkeeper 500 years ago during the events of Dungeon Link, but the Loraine that Guardian Tales players are accustomed to, or more appropriately the sentient piece of Labose bacteria that took on DL!Loraine's form for unknown reasons, only awakened within the last century or so.
  • Creepy Doll: Her exclusive weapon is a doll named "Emma" that changes the target of her heal to the lowest HP ally while damaging enemies in the healing circle.
  • Expendable Clone: Even if she dies, her memories just get transferred to one of her other "clones." She exploits this in the Unrecorded World to buy Future Princess and the Knight time finish the fight with Beth. She entices Invaders to attack her, then detonates her current body to kill the attackers before repeating the cycle with a fresh clone. While she is as casual about the deaths as ever, the Invader Commander rightly guesses that she can't keep this process up forever and could be overwhelmed eventually without help.
  • Expy: Possibly one of Goddess Venus, being some sort of plant-based being that came about as the result of an experiment and can resurrect itself through its own buds/flowers.
  • Eyepatch After Time Skip: In World 11, the most noticeable change in her overall appearance was the presence of a large, black eyepatch on her right eye. Though, this was present on a recently created clone, so it's probably for aesthetics beyond anything else.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Except for when she attempts to squish the player in world 6 and her summer version, her eyes are like this.
  • Hidden Buxom: Her Summer alternate in the When You Wish Upon a Star event reveals that she's much bustier than she appears in her usual modest dresses.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite mostly coming off as a mysterious and somewhat sinister presence, Loraine occasionally shows that she has a more "human" side. She has an interest in modeling and rarely displays that she genuinely cares for the Knight and Little Princess.
  • Humanoid Abomination: She certainly looks human, but she's actually a hivemind of shadow clones lead by a nominate clone produced by a large pink flower. And then she reveals in World 11 that she is actually a humanoid manifestation of Labose.
  • I Am a Humanitarian: Loraine's clones have a tendency to try to chew up anything they attack. ESPECIALLY Invaders. It's implied that this is a continuation of the desire to finish consuming the Invaders as Labose has been trying to do for a very long time.
  • The Medic: She can heal your team, being the first support unit you are required to get.
    • Healer Signs On Early: Barring luck in the gatcha, she is the only healer the player will have access to for a while.
  • Losing Your Head: She spends about half of world 11 as talking severed head, apparently thanks to a botched suicide. She's pretty much the main puzzle-solving tool for two stages in this state.
  • Manipulative Bastard: She's helping the Knight and Little Princess in their war and wants to eliminate the Invaders as much as they do, but clearly has her own motivations that do not necessarily align with theirs. She only tells the heroes as much information as necessary for them to continue being useful to her plans.
  • Me's a Crowd: Loraine is only one of innumerable clones produced by the Labose plants. If she is killed, another clone with all her memories will be produced to take her place in seconds, not even caring about her previous "death". Interestingly, only a single sentient "Loraine" seems to exist at any given time. All others are shadowy creatures that are either passive to the point of being catatonic or feral monsters that try to devour anything around them besides other clones.
  • Mysterious Backer: She is the one who brings the Knight and Princess to the Champion's Sword and Heavenhold, making their battle with the Invaders at all feasible, but clearly knows far more than she lets on.
  • Parental Substitute: She acts as the Little Princess' primary caretaker and disciplinarian, despite claiming to hate "playing family".
  • Pet the Dog: Loraine rarely does anything truly benevolent, but her actions in the Unrecorded World show that she really has come to care for the Princess and the Knight beyond their utility to her schemes. She would never admit to it, though.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Her summer alternate reveals that her eyes are bright red with vertically slit pupils, fitting her sinister personality.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Loraine as we know her gained sentience roughly 100 years before the start of the story.
  • Respawn Point: Her profile states that even if she dies in front of your eyes, she'll be ready to greet you back at the inn. There's a flower on the ceiling that spits out a dark blob that reforms into a new Loraine as needed. World 1 Nightmare shows that more flowers exist, and can evidently produce an ARMY of clones, but only one sentient "Loraine" at any given time.
  • Resurrective Immortality: It's seemingly impossible to actually keep Loraine dead. Failing to find a secret area in world 11 seemingly leads to her actually dying...right before she simply turns into a sprout.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Is it "Loraine" or "Lorraine"?
  • The Tape Knew You Would Say That: Inexplicably, at the end of 16-15, in a notebook left for the winner of the 'Clone Contest Venue' to read, Lorraine (the presumptuous writer) somehow knew that the Knight would not only drop into the contest but win, and directly addressed them through the notebook.
  • Token Evil Teammate: She is one of the main characters and does seem to have some level of genuine affection for the Knight and Little Princess, but barely even tries to hide her more sinister nature from the others.
  • The Virus: More accurately, The Bacteria. She's a sentient fragment of the man-made bacteria that's been chasing the Invaders across the stars to devour them.
  • Wham Line: Drops one near the end of world 11: "You people don't yet have the word to define us... But the Invaders call us... Labose."

    White Beast
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/whitebeastgl.png
A white-furred wolf the Knight saves from a pair of men. Although it is distrustful of the Knight at first, it soon becomes a loyal companion.
Rarity: 2-star
Species: Wolf
Age: 3
Height and weight: 76cm/70kg
Element: Water
Role: Warrior
Exclusive Weapon: Fenrir
Illustrator: Wonchun Choi (GL/KR), 北風 (JP)

For tropes regarding its werewolf form "White Snow", see the Water Unique Heroes page.

  • Absurdly Sharp Claws: He can be equipped with various Claw weapons.
  • Amplified Animal Aptitude: He's much smarter than a normal wolf. He seems to fully understand anything said to him, can patronize any establishment on Heavenhold, and can even lead a squad to complete missions like any of the humanoid characters. He was also somehow able to communicate a specific wish to Bari.
  • Androcles' Lion: The Knight recruits him by saving him from traps. Played With by it taking multiple attempts before the beast warms up to them enough to stop trying to comically attack them afterwards.
  • Babies Ever After: He starts a family with another white wolf after Beth's defeat in the Unrecorded World, as seen in World 11 Nightmare.
  • Dub Name Change: His proper name in the original English/Korean script is "Marshmallow", as revealed in World 10. To keep the Fluffy the Terrible theming, the Japanese script opts for "シロちゃん" instead, with "シロ" meaning "white".
  • Fluffy the Terrible: In Chapter 10 it's revealed that he was given the name "Marshmallow" by the Princess despite being an intimidating horned wolf bigger than a small house. Future Princess says that it's hard for her to stop thinking of him the same small pup he was when she met him.
  • Future Badass: You get to see the White Beast fully grown in World 10. And oh boy, has it grown.
  • Gigantic Adults, Tiny Babies: The White Beast doesn't seem that large by wolf standards, but his playable version is only a pup. As the Unrecorded World shows, his species grows to at least ten times his current size by adulthood.
  • Loyal Animal Companion: It's loyal to the Knight, albeit with occasional aggression if they get too friendly, but completely devoted to the Little Princess.
  • No Name Given: The White Beast is never given a proper name until world 10 where it is revealed to be named Marshmallow .
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: He's a capable warrior despite only being a wolf pup.
  • Team Pet: Pretty much acts as one for the playable cast.
  • Starter Mon: The first character to join the party permanently after the Knight.
  • The Voiceless: The only 2-star or above hero in the base roster to have no voiced or written lines or noises at all.

    Leaf Fairy Aoba
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aobagl.png
I've done my part, can I rest now?
JP artwork
A leaf fairy that protects flowers of Kanterbury forest. She would be the greatest leaf fairy of her generation - if she was not a natural-born slacker. Instead of taking care of flowers all day, she spends time taking naps and reading comic books from the human world.
Rarity: 2-star
Species: Fairy
Age: 99
Height and weight: 155cm/45kg
Element: Earth
Role: Support
Exclusive Weapon: Oberon
Voiced by: Aiko Yamada (Japanese), Nicole Gose (English), Yoon Eun-seo (Korean)
Illustrator: Wonchun Choi (GL/KR)

  • Brilliant, but Lazy: She's incredibly skilled in caring for plants and engineering. Half an hour of her touch does more wonder to flowers than hours of work from any other fairy, but because she's "efficient", she invented magical sprinklers and automated her entire job just to have more time to laze around.
  • Healing Shiv: She fires healing arrows at allies.
  • Heroism Incentive: She only joins the Knight if they bring her rare comic books under the assumption she could find more during their travels.
  • Heroic Neutral: She's on the heroes' side, but makes no secret that she'd rather kick back and read comics all day than protect the world from the Invaders. She only becomes fully invested in the Unrecorded World. Even then, she takes the first opportunity to shirk work after the main threat is ended.
  • Laborious Laziness: Aoba puts more effort into avoiding work than she ever does for her jobs. She invented and installed entirely new technology just so that she wouldn't have to do a job that her skills let her complete in a fraction of time any other fairy would take.
  • Lazy Bum: She can barely be bothered to wake up under her own power most days.
  • Odd Friendship: Aoba is on good terms with the exercise-obsessed fellow oddball fairy Scintilla. Scintilla is one of very few people who can convince Aoba to do work, even if she has to bribe Aoba to do it.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The Unrecorded World is so messed up that she works herself to the bone to try to fix as many of its problems as she can.
  • Overworked Sleep: A stage in world 10 has her being stuck trying to sort out the multitude of problems going on throughout the level. Fully clearing the rest of the stage lets her take a break... where she falls asleep to the relief of everyone else.
  • Professional Slacker: She proudly calls herself one. While she does have a job, she goes out of her way to avoid putting in any effort whatsoever while still technically doing it.
  • Really 700 Years Old: She's barely an adult by fairy standards, but is about a century old by the time she joins.
  • Stop Poking Me!: A Running Gag with Aoba is that you have to speak with her multiple times to get her to acknowledge you.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: She's a healer that can't heal herself with her basic healing ability, relying entirely on a 20% chance from her exclusive weapon (if you even have it), her chain skill, and her 5* passivenote  for self-healing.

    Vampire Girl Karina
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/karinagl.png
Your blood is mine. Don't forget that.
JP artwork
A vampire girl who disguises herself as a lost girl in Kanterbury Forest and drains a little blood from unsuspecting adventurers.
Rarity: 2-star
Species: Vampire
Age: 116
Height and weight: 167cm/48kg
Element: Dark
Role: Support
Exclusive Weapon: Crescent Moon
Voiced by: Hina Aihara (Japanese, former), Mai Fuchigami (Japanese, current), Stephanie Sheh (English), Lee Da-eun (Korean)
Illustrator: Wonchun Choi (GL/KR), イコモチ (JP)

  • A Day in the Limelight: She gets an Heavenhold Novel story describing her past and the process of her gaining her ascended form.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Well, little sister, but she's willing to put everything on the line to protect her sister.
  • Brick Joke: Threatens to drink the Knight's blood at some point. It takes until World 10 for this to come back up.
  • Combat Medic: Her healing is completely tied to how much damage she does.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: She's a vampire that loves to trick people and drain blood, but is mischevious rather than malicious. She never causes serious harm to her targets and treats it more like a prank than anything. Her Heavenhold Novel story displays her in a much more altruistic light, especially in regards to her family. In the Unrecorded World, she becomes downright heroic in protecting survivors.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: She joins the party after the Knight outsmarts her usual hunting tricks and defeats her when she attacks in retaliation.
  • Defensive Feint Trap: Once you defeat her in combat, she runs off only to dive at you one last time where you initially met. Once you deal with that, she joins the party.
  • Femme Fatale: She loves to use her looks and feminine wiles to lure her targets into lowering their guard.
  • Heroic Second Wind: Her special ability causes her to instantly recover to 40% HP if she hits zero, which can happen every 60 seconds.
  • Life Drain: She heals the party by damaging enemies and provides more healing when enemies die.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Her ascended form has noticeable enhancements to her figure and an outfit that amounts to nothing but fancy lingerie.
  • Not Quite Dead: In World 10, she has apparently died from using too much power helping out the survivors, complete with casket and people paying respects. Walk up to the casket and face away, however...
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: After the Knight outsmarted and defeated her in Kanterbury Forest, she developed something of an obsession with succeeding in sucking their blood. Part of why she joined is so that she could ensure that nobody would kill the Knight before she succeeded in draining them. Partially out of wounded pride, but mostly because the Knight's blood is just that tasty.
  • Really 700 Years Old: She's over a century old, but is physically and mentally barely an adult by vampire standards.
  • Rebellious Princess: She's the heir of an aristocratic vampire family, but ran off twice. The first time was to remove herself from the running so her adopted sister would have her chance to take the position. The second time was just to avoid having to deal with administrative duties.
  • Red Herring: Her Plague Doctor costume might have been intended as this, as it has led many people into theorizing that she is the aforementioned Walking Spoiler. She's not.
  • Resurrective Immortality: She gains the ability to revive upon "death" when evolved to five-star rank. World 10 shows that this isn't just a gameplay mechanic.
  • Sibling Team: Following her ascension, she can temporarily summon her sister to as a separate character to fight alongside her.
  • Took a Level in Badass: She gained her ascended form by claiming the power of her ancestors in a ritual to save her sister.
  • Weakened by the Light: You thwart her plans by leading her into a beam of sunlight where she proceeds to go into the Defeat Means Explosion boss death animation... before getting back up and fighting you out of annoyance. Oddly, this weakness never comes up again as she and all other vampires in the game are shown being in direct sunlight with little to no negative effects later.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Karina's favorite hunting method before joining was to act like a helpless lost girl and beg passing travelers to "guide her to safety". Once the would-be rescuer is lulled into a false sense of security, she would jump them, drink some of their blood, and leave them unconscious. By the time her "hero" wakes up, she's had her fun and is long gone.

    Red Hood Elvira
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elviragl.png
I always tell the truth. Even when I lie.
JP artwork
Ascended artwork
Granddaughter of Great Grandma, leader of the notorious crime syndicate, Reservoir Snakes, Elvira was formerly one of its most notable assassin rising stars. With her skills, familial ties, and love of callous cruelty, she was practically guaranteed to eventually lead the gang. That is until she was defeated in battle with the Knight and subsequently exiled. Marked for death by her former organization, Elvira forcibly joined the heroes of Heavenhold for protection. After falling from Heavenhold while it was being shot down by Invader forces, she met her grandmother's former partner Rosetta and was taken under her wing. With her new mentor's training, she ascended to a new level and was gifted a variant of her Elvirabium mech to become more potent than ever.
Rarity: 2-star (can be ascended)
Species: Half-Elf
Age: 21
Height and weight: 158cm/47kg
Element: Fire
Role: Ranged
Exclusive Weapon: Trouble Maker

  • A Day in the Limelight: Gets the chance to shine post-World 1 with her ascension-related Short Story.
  • Arch-Enemy: She and Arabelle are bitter rivals.
  • Assassin Outclassin': Her short story begins with her evading a squad of Reservoir Snakes assassins sent after her. While she holds her own then, it's only after she completed her training with Rosetta that she truly outclassed them all.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: She's extremely childish and self-centered, but gets easily offended when someone calls her "kid".
  • Character Development: She becomes less hostile and openly admits that she feels at home on Heavenhold in her short story.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Reservoir Snakes was founded by her grandmother after they survived a wolf attack.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: She forces her way onto the team after she fails to assassinate the Knight. Not out of any friendship or shared cause, but to have a place to hide from Reservoir Snakes' punishments for failure. It wasn't until much later that she gained any sense of camaraderie with the Knight.
  • Elite Tweak: When fully maxed out, she gains large damage bonuses against lower-levelled enemies, has a team buff that is nearly as powerful as a similar buff on a Unique hero, and can stun some bosses in one skill. Because of this, she's commonly used to fill out ranged teams in Guild Raids, especially to quickly sweep out the early rounds where her passive is still at high power.
  • Humongous Mecha: Her killing machine Elvirabium, which she uses as an enemy in Guild Conquests. She was given a miniaturized version of it as part of her Ascension.
  • Leitmotif: The Red Hood. A faster version is played when she's fought in the Guild Conquest mode.
  • Little Red Fighting Hood: She's basically Little Red Riding Hood as a member of the mafia.
  • Mafia Princess: Formerly. She's the granddaughter of Great Grandma, the leader of Reservoir Snakes, but was cast out and marked for execution after she lost to the Knight in Kanterbury Forest.
  • Metaphorically True: Her description of the origin of Reservoir Snakes was retroactively made this. The "Wolf's Belly" that her grandma escaped from was the name of a facility that trained kidnapped children as assassins.
  • Older Than They Look: She's 21 years old, but, thanks to her elf blood, is physically and psychologically barely more than a child. Her ascended art makes her look closer to her age.
  • Redeeming Replacement: Rosetta tries to task her with succeeding Great Grandma and changing Reservoir Snakes into a the benevolent organization it was originally meant to be. Elvira says she doesn't want to return to the gang, but doesn't reject the idea entirely.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: According to Rosetta, someone who would know, she's near-identical to the way her grandma Olivia at her age.
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: She launches apple-shaped bombs as her primary attack method.
  • Time to Unlock More True Potential: Following her getting an Ascension, she also gets a new Short Story about her getting spec'd out, sometime during the Knight's disappearance in-between the events of Rah Empire and Unrecorded World. As an ascended unit, she lets down her hood, gets a new dress, obtains cybernetic gear for her legs, and has a mini version of her Elvirabium strapped to her back.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Originally, she only on the heroes' side because she needed their protection from the rest of her gang. She would have happily betrayed them all if Reservoir Snakes would have taken her back. Later on she mellowed out and came to see being with them as her real home.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: In her ascension story, she's notably less hostile to others, reveals that she has no intention to return to her gang, and outright says that she considers Heavenhold the place she belongs. She's still selfish and aggressive, but nowhere near as vicious as she once was.
  • You Have Failed Me: Reservoir Snakes does not tolerate failure. When the player defeats her, Elvira was effectively exiled from the gang and marked for execution. She forced herself on the Knight's team to ensure she got protection from her former comrades.

  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Despite spending the entirety of the story with a laser cannon after the Blacksmith breaks the Master Blade, the playable Hyper is still a sword-wielding Warrior unit with no option to equip guns.
