Relevant Characters

     Iris (SPOILER WARNING)
The late wife of Count Claude. Her death is what shaped him into what he is today. It is widely rumored that her own husband had a hand in it.
  • Demonic Possession: As a pure-blooded Demon descended from Belial, she possesses powerful mana, making her a perfect vessel candidate for him. In fact, she was almost completely taken over by Belial before her suicide.
  • Driven to Suicide: Iris was not murdered by Claude or a proxy sent by him. She threw herself off the top of the Pyramid to kill herself before she was completely taken over by Belial, both to stop Belial's revival as well as to protect the secret that her bloodline was descended from the Demon God, which would lead to her daughter being in mortal peril as the inheritor of her blood. There's also an implication that Iris crossed the Despair Event Horizon after having to endure so many failed treatments in isolation.
  • Good Parents: Every time she is shown in a flashback with Priscilla, there is no question that she was a kind and loving mother.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold
  • Til Murder Do Us Part: Subverted. A lot of Demonshire NPCs speculate that Claude only took her as a Trophy Wife to consolidate power for himself by making their union an icon for the mixed race citizenship of Demonshire, and then murdered her when she was no longer useful due to secretly harboring a hatred for Demons. In reality, their marriage was happy and loving but eventually ruined by the presence of Demon God Belial.
  • The Lost Lenore: Is this for Claude. She jumped off the pyramid maintaining the artificial sun after believing that it's too late for her to be rid of Belial's advent. This event changed him forever, becoming an overprotective but aloof and misunderstood parent to Priscilla, especially after she began showing symptoms of Belial's advent herself not long after Iris' suicide. In his own words, Claude "lost his sun" when she died.
  • Walking Spoiler: You cannot talk about Iris' true place in the Demonshire arc without really touching on how she was possessed by Belial, whose presence is kept a secret for most of the arc, or that she wasn't murdered, but actually killed herself.

    The Lingering Grudge (SPOILER WARNING)
The demon god known as Belial had been previously defeated by Kaden and his companions and sealed away. It has been getting around this by possessing various demons to revive itself, but so far to no avail. Unfortunately for you, the latest vessel it has chosen was Priscilla...
  • Bloody Murder: Due to possessing the body of Priscilla for his battle, he also uses some blood spells.
  • Canon Immigrant: He's an antagonist from the game Dungeon Link, taking place in the same world as Guardian Tales but 500 years prior. He was defeated by the heroes of that game, but as shown in Guardian Tales, managed to avoid being killed off for good on account of a Demon God being able to revive themselves through Demonic Possession.
  • Casting a Shadow: Most of his attacks involve dark magic, such as throwing orbs of dark magic or chains.
  • Demonic Possession: Has done this many times in the past, with the latest being Priscilla and her mother Iris.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: The three Demon Gods captured by Lilith absolutely despise Belial. Just being compared to him is enough to set them off.
  • Hidden Villain: Spent most of Chapter 14 pretending to be Priscillia, only dropping the act when the time loop was compromised.
  • Physical God: Unlike his three contemporaries, Belial managed to escape Lilith, allowing him to retain his original powers. Even without fully reviving, he was powerful enough to flood Demonshire with endless waves of Grudges and easily withstand a blast powerful enough to level the area.
  • One-Winged Angel: Twice! As his participation in the plot is due to possessing Priscilla's body, he transforms her body to use more of his powers. In his initial combat form, he causes her body to sprout four wings, grow a second horn and enlarges both of them, her skin gains a deathly pallor and her eyes gain red sclera. For his final battle form, he enhances these traits on top of turning her into a giant.
  • Sealed Evil in a Duel: Belial's ultimate fate in Guardian Tales is to be sealed in another dimension with Claude, until Claude can somehow find a way to suppress Belial forever. This was done by Claude specifically to prevent Belial from ruining any more lives, especially that of his daughter Priscilla, as killing Belial's physical body will simply lead to Belial finding another vessel in time, which would most likely take place through his own progeny.
  • True Final Boss: Of World 14.
  • Walking Spoiler: Naturally, you cannot talk about the true villain of an arc, who has kept himself beneath suspicion from the player for most of it, without spoiling his very presence.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Demon God Belial is defeated in the present through the cooperation of the Knight and Claude, whereas the Hero Kaden required a full party to take him down in Dungeon Link, other legendary and famous figures included in his retinue. That said, Belial as he appears in Guardian Tales wasn't at peak condition and was defeated before he could complete his plan to regain his full power. Even so, it doesn't take away from the fact that just two people took down a Demon God.
