openTime to Break Up Millennium Trilogy? Literature
I was looking over the The Millennium Trilogy pages recently, and it's rather hard to navigate because there's not a lot of distinction made between the books, the Swedish movies, and the American movies. I was wondering if perhaps we should separate them; the Swedish movies will remain as Millennium Trilogy, tropes and moments pertaining to the books could be moved to Lizbeth Salander (as the book series is no longer a trilogy, anyway) and the tropes pertaining to the American movies could be moved to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and The Girl in the Spider's Web, respectively. Does this make any sense?
EDIT: I see there is already a film page for Spider's Web.

Do i need permission to change a trope description if it's factual wrong?
openRedirect Term = Alternate Trope Title?
Lately, Asoktenchea has been doing pretty heavy-handed edits in regards to alternate spelling on tropes with the following reason:
However, the examples they changed aren't potholes, but actual alternate spellings (usually gender related) that redirect to the proper trope anyway. Is this kosher?
openOfficial song preview vs. Auto-generated full song Web Original
On AwesomeMusic.Hololive, I added several songs with pertinent links to their full versions, which were auto-generated by Youtube's algorithm, practically making them official since it's provided by Cover Corp to Youtube. However, endwaar changed them to the official hololive Youtube account's sneak-peek versions, one of which they already reverted once before. I am awaiting a response from endwaar over the lack of edit reason, which may or may not come given their sporadic editing pattern.
Is there a ruling on this? I fear that endwaar and I have inadvertently engaged in a wordless Edit War on those Youtube links. Their willingness to straight up ignore my 5+ notifiers and keep on editing as if nothing happened also has me concerned.

Edited by MichaelKatsuroopen Ron the Death Eater quotes
I was adding a quote to the quotes page for Ron the Death Eater, and I was a bit puzzled to see quotes that weren't discussions about the trope (whether in-universe or out), since this trope is one where you need to know about the source material in order for you to understand it. I think that these examples should be cut (under the headings "Ron in fanfiction" and "No one gets out alive (Other characters in fanfiction)"), since they don't make much sense if you don't know the source material.
openUpload a video
How do I upload a video in TV Tropes? And how do I assign it a trope? And how do I make it clear it belongs to a cartoon/anime/videogame/movie, etc...?
Edited by QuagsireLoveropenWhy do we have this character sheet? Videogame
I've noticed that we have a page called Pokémon Glitches and I'm wondering why we even have it.
- I can't think of any other franchises that list glitches (unintentional ones, not ones who are glitches in the narrative) as characters.
- The sections for the more popular glitchesnote Missingno. and 'M have descriptions and examples that veer into Walkthrough Mode.
- Several examples, especially for the less well-known glitches, are ZCEs or shoehorns.
What should be done about it?

Edited by rmctagg09openMore thing from Unbuilt trope, almost 40 years too late Anime
This is on UnbuiltTrope.Anime And Manga
- Mushoku Tensei. The first volume was published in 2012, just before the massive explosion of the Isekai genre. Many view the series as one of those that served as a Trope Codifier for many of the tropes in said genre. However, the series either Deconstructs or at least Justifies many of the common tropes in the genre.
- To start with, the main character is, much like many Isekai protagonists, both a Hikikomori and a NEET. However, unlike many other works, the Light Novel actually addresses that this lifestyle is both unhealthy and fairly tragic. The main character (before his reincarnation) is an overweight loser who is considered to be the Black Sheep of his family. He's spent his entire adult life sponging off of his family and when his parents die, his disgusting habits, combined with the fact that he didn't attend their funeral, prompt his remaining family members to kick him out of the house and essentially disown him. On top of that, the Light Novel addresses the fact that many who live this lifestyle have serious underlying psychological issues, and those issues carry over with him into the next world. None of this is Played for Laughs, by the way.
- The Main Character's perverted antics are also shown in a much different light. His obsession with sex is shown to be the result of his constant exposure to hentai and other pornographic material warping how he perceives women and sex, and it's also shown to make many of the female characters he interacts with deeply uncomfortable, even afraid to be around him. In fact, growing out of his attitudes and tendencies is a major part of his Character Development.
- In a similar vein to the above, the series is, like many Isekai works, set in a pseudo-Medieval European setting. A lot of works in such settings either tend to downplay or outright ignore the way that women were treated (or exploit it for Fetish Fuel), with even powerful women being little more than political bargaining chips who had very little autonomy in many regards to their own lives. In addition to that, many of the powerful men are very corrupt and often do at-best morally-dubious things. The Rudeus's new father is, while not without his redeeming qualities, still a philandering rapist who cheated on his pregnant wife with one of his former victims. His Uncle Phillip is a sceemer who offers to allow the 10-year-old main character to have sex with his 12-year-old daughter in exchange for the former's support in a coup he's planning, and his grandfather Sauros (and Phillip as well) both enjoy having at-best extremely-dubiously-consensual sex with their beastgirl servants/slaves. And keep in mind, these are the "good" members of the family. The higher-ranking ones who actually hold power are even worse than they are. And the series does not shy away from showing the psychological impact that living in this sort of society has on women.
- The Light Novel also justifies the protagonist being a prodigy-level genius with regards to magic. Because he didn't keep his old body when he started over in the new world and was reborn into the body of an infant with all his knowledge and memories intact from his previous life. Due to this, he has the intelligence of a fully-grown adult with the learning capacity and neuroplasticity of a child, granting him a massive advantage over other children. And even then, he still has to put in a lot of work in order to excel the way that he does.
The problem is Trapped in Another World anime is around for much longer. Examples include Aura Battler Dunbine (1983), Mashin Hero Wataru Series (1988), Mado King Granzort (1989), NG Knight Lamune & 40 (1990), Magic Knight Rayearth (1993), El-Hazard: The Magnificent World (1995), and The Vision of Escaflowne (1996)
(and personally, I suspect that its root can be traced back to Ultima II)
So the trope is already solidified before 2000 and the claim that a light novel from 2012 unbuilt it is just ridiculous.

Edited by WalkinshadowsopenJHD's impatience
I've avoided an ATT report because this has been largely restricted to the fora, but nothing has really happened after two hollers, so I figured it's worth another report.
JHD has a habit of impatience in the Projects fora, which results in them either berating people for not focusing on what he considers important (without taking any initiative himself) or taking unilateral action despite a lack of consensus. Some examples:
- In the So Bad It's Horrible cleanup, they kept asking if we should remove some listicles from Horrible.Other and the Music subpages. The discussion didn't reach consensus, but when their attempt to revive it was overlooked, they just removed the lists unilaterally instead of just reviving the discussion. (They did eventually make a spinoff thread to properly discuss the issue.)
- In the Deader Than Disco TRS, they got snappy about not receiving constant updates on how many wicks were left, despite that being visible from the Related tab. Note that they weren't really doing much wick cleaning themself.
- They've had a history of impatience in the Wick Check Project especially. Their early posts in the thread were first a lot of double-posting about their progress doing a Deader Than Disco wick check, and once they decided they weren't good at doing wick checks, they got fairly pushy about us doing that wick check (they've admitted that changing that trope was the main reason they joined the site). Then after deciding they didn't have time to work on the Ho Yay wick check (which is fair enough), they were still ignorant about exactly how to fix the trope despite previous failed TRS threads, which again, is fair, as they can't solve everything. But they seem very reluctant to even try. And now today they just tried to cutlist the newer Ho Yay wick check because "It's dead, and will never go anywhere" despite nobody else giving up on the effort and people working on numerous other threads at the same time. Once again, they just decided to make a decision based on their own feelings about a situation rather than actually discuss an issue properly.
He was brought up earlier for his somewhat judgmental ATT questions, but I didn't think it was that big of an issue because he seemed to be listening. But he's still continuing to be disruptive, even after multiple warnings to stop this hasty behavior. Their role in the projects is less contributing to the effort and more yelling at other tropers to contribute because they gave up on trying to help, despite the fact that these are collaborative efforts and we've given him many tips on how to contribute.

Edited by WhirlRXopenCan The Scrappy be considered "Memetic Mutation"?
On Memes.Genshin Impact, there are two examples which appear to be really crossing the line between The Scrappy and Memetic Mutation.
- Fuck Reckless Pallad! Explanation (spoilers for the final act of the Dragonspine Event!) The NPC Reckless Pallad had been infamous among the playerbase for the random world quests where he keeps getting attacked by low level Hilichurls and slimes. At the end of "The Chalk Prince and the Dragon", he goes after the floating Festering Desire Sword, mistaking the energy flowing in it as fire, trying to reach it just to get some relief off the sheer cold weather of Dragonspine instead of following after Sucrose to a safer area, ignoring Albedo's warnings in the process. On top of pushing Sucrose and the Traveler down, he causes Festering Desire to fall, with the overflowing energy in the sword awakening the Resurgent Cryo Regisvine, who quickly grew infamous for being That One Boss with That One Attack. The sheer What An Idiot reaction and fury on him from the playerbase was so large that many memes about letting Pallad get beaten up by the Hilichurls and slimes going after him in the random World quest grew abound, even to the point that there's an entire subreddit dedicated to hating him!
- Fuck Albert! Explanation Albert is an NPC who hangs around the Mondstadt church and stalks Barbara, and one of the commissions involved making him leave. Hate for him skyrocketed in the Windblume Festival event as Albert decides to get Barbara's attention by sending her a letter, stating that the most precious thing to her has been buried out in the wilderness. This causes Barbara to have a panic attack, believing that Jean is in danger. When we arrive at the location, we simply find a buried gift for Barbara. Albert's behaviour has disgusted many players, most even saying that he is worse than Pallad.
- Albert is WORSE than Reckless Pallad
For context for those of you who haven't played Genshin Impact, both Reckless Pallad and Albert are the most infamous NPCs in the entire game for reasons their notes explain, and the Genshin fandom really hates their guts. The thing is, can really hated characters enough to be considered Scrappies be also considered "memes"? It's not like the fandom hates them ironically for humor value, they really hate them unironically and want to see them suffer. This to me seems like misuse.
openConcern over Winnie the Pooh's Home Run Derby Videogame
While helping with the That One Boss and That One Level cleanup, I came across some questionable examples on Winnie the Pooh's Home Run Derby, and in the process I've found myself concerned about the page and its subpages in general.
I had no doubt the reason the game even had a page was because of the general Surprise Difficulty reaction it gets, but the memes of how hard it is - and the demonization the pitchers got as a result - have bled into all but one subpage, even though difficulty aside, it's a simple Winnie the Pooh game with no plot.
My main concern is how I should deal with this. Like I said, the issues are quite prominent, but I'm worried about if the pages aren't big enough to warrant a thread on Projects: Short Term, and what I should do instead if they aren't.
Edited by BrashBusteropenIs this Developer's Foresight?
I found this added to the Developer's Foresight page tonight:
- A meta one for The Karate Kid: William Zabka came up with a loose backstory for Johnny Lawrence, in order to better "get the feel" for playing the character. He envisioned Johnny as having no father, and that Johnny's karate sensei John Kreese was the closest thing to a father figure he had in his life. This stuff would all pay off 34 years afterwards, when Cobra Kai was released and made most of Zabka's headcanon official canon.
Can anyone explain how this is Developer's Foresight? I can't.
RavenRox has been going around adding quotes by Thomas Sowell on various Quotes pages - this behavior seems awfully similar to banned troper bobby4ize, to the point where some of the quotes added by Raven Rox were previously added by bobby4ize. I think they might be a sock.
