Useful Tips:

  • Make sure that the example makes sense to both people who don't know the work AND don't know the trope.
    • Wrong: The Mentor: Kevin is this to Bob in the first episode.
    • Right: The Mentor: Kevin takes Bob under his wing in the first episode and teaches him the ropes of being a were-chinchilla.
  • Never just put the trope title and leave it at that.
    • Wrong: Badass Adorable
    • Right: Badass Adorable: Xavier, the group's cute little mascot, defeats three raging elephants with both hands tied behind his back using only an uncooked spaghetti noodle.
  • When is normally far less important than How.
    • Wrong: Big Bad: Of the first season.
    • Right: Big Bad: The heroes have to defeat the Mushroom Man lest the entirety of Candy Land's caramel supply be turned into fungus.
  • A character name is not an explanation.

So this is under Marvel Universe:

Mind you, the first half is absolutely true. But I haven't seen any remotely positive memes about him. Everyone who knows of him that I know of views him as an utterly loathesome plot device and over hyped Mary Sue who still sits on the sidelines for no real reason, and has the personality of wet cardboard. He exists for no other reason than to make Peter/MJ not happen, especially in their eyes.

I found this on DramaticIrony.Live Action TV:

  • Fans of Are You Afraid of the Dark? consider "The Dead Man's Float" the scariest episode of the series, but the Midnight Society don't think the story is good enough for Tucker's friend Stig to join.

This strikes me more as just Irony. Should I move the example there?

Also found this on Characters.Trails Series Rean Schwarzer (bolded)

  • Blue Blood: Rean is a member of Erebonia's ruling aristocracy by adoption, though not one of the great houses. Cold Steel II confirms that he's a commoner by birth though his biological father was also elevated to the nobility a year after Rean's adoption. Said dad also wants to get rid of the nobility. Then Cold Steel IV reveals that his father Osborne was not only also adopted into nobility by the Schwarzers, but is also the reincarnation of the former emperor Dreichels the Lionheart.

The bolded portion doesn't make sense for me. Just because your the son of someone who was the reincarnation of someone of much higher standing doesn't your biologically related to that previous incarnations family.

Not sure if this is the right place, but anyway . . .

A troper by the username IfWishesAreDreams has deleted the following entry (which I originally wrote) on the Fan Works sub-page for Creator Backlash:

  • SaoirseParisa turned against her Pretty Cure fanfic Twilight Pretty Cure due to the backlash she received over her handling of issues such as rape, victim-blaming and disability. Eventually, the controversy led to her abandoning the story, as well as effectively quitting the Pretty Cure fandom, and she later deleted all but the first chapter. Her feelings about the story are summed up in her fanfiction.net profile:
I consider this the fan fic I most regret writing, but I admit it's not the worst thing I've written. A bad yaoi story I wrote in high school was WAAAAAAAAAAY worse, along with my super bad Super Robot Monkey Team fan fics from seventh grade.

The edit reason was that "If the creator deleted the work save for only the first chapter, it's more a case of Bury Your Art." However, Creator Backlash is a common cause of Bury Your Art and there's nothing that says a work can't be listed under both tropes. So, in a nutshell, was this a wrongful deletion, in which case the entry should be reinstated? Or was the deletion correct and, if so, would it be OK to recreate the entry (or create a new entry for the work) under Bury Your Art? I notice IfWishesWereDreams didn't do that, so I'm wondering if there should be a rule that if you delete an entry for being listed under the wrong trope, you move it to the correct trope. But that's a discussion to be had elsewhere.

So, what's the verdict? Does a work which was wholly or partly deleted by its creator due to them turning against it go under Bury Your Art or Creator Backlash, or can it go under both?

On YMMV.Spider Man Across The Spider Verse:

  • Crack Pairing:
    • Miguel has also been paired with Peter B., typically in a polyamorous relationship that includes Mary Jane, and Gwen of all characters.
    • Miles Morales and Peni Parker has been around for a while but a few new pieces of fanart were enough to make it explode in popularity. Gwen betraying Miles, and some backlash to Gwen's character have also added fuel to the shipping.

Are these really crack ships? (Other than the foursome.) In the case of both Miguel/Peter and Miles/Peni, they're on friendly terms in canon and about the same age. Uncommon, sure, but I feel like a crack pairing has to be more out-there than that.

Bumping a questionable Crush Blush example in OMORI – Main Group from a few months ago that I'm still unsure of what to do with: I think there is some merit to retooling it into an Implied Love Interest example, but there may also be an argument for removing it outright. Thoughts appreciated.

[up]I feel it counts since she does blush due to having a crush on him and Crush Blush doesn't seem to require the character blushing to be confirmed to be in a relationship, at least from what I can pick up. Regardless if it's valid or not, I do feel she counts as an Implied Love Interest.

Does something count as Precision F-Strike if the character usually doesn't swear but says "damn"? If it helps, the line is "Give me that damn parachute".

Ten characters in the MCU currently have the World's Best Warrior trope listed on their pages, with a Wall of Text to explain why this particular character is better than the rest. All of them are from the same "world" and all got defeated at least once. My instinct is to remove all of these, at least on the grounds that Examples Are Not Arguable, and it is very much arguable who of them is "the best one". Opinions?

    Examples from character pages
  • Bucky Barnes: As the Winter Soldier, he was HYDRA's deadliest fighter, and with Steve retired as Captain America and elderly, he is the most skilled and experienced warrior active in the world among humans. He is capable of taking down entire squads of trained soldiers and numerous alien goons of Thanos's, easily defeats Black Widow and Falcon, puts up an incredible fight against Captain America, and while helping Steve beat Iron Man, comes close to besting the latter by himself. He is able to handle himself against Black Panther, though he ends up losing due to holding back and being unwilling to kill him. In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, he defeats other humans who took the Super Soldier Serum; he ultimately curb-stomps Flag Smashers and with help from Sam takes down the new Captain America, John Walker, who is one of the best fighters in the U.S. with 3 Medals of Honor.
  • Ying Li: Possibly. Her husband is a contender for this on Earth, being a centuries-old warlord and conqueror with immeasurable experience and skill... and yet she beat him the first time they met. Shang-Chi later admits that the only person he's ever known to be able to beat his father in a straight fight was her.
  • The Ancient One: She was definitely this among the Masters of the Mystic Arts, being that she is the Sorcerer Supreme and has decades of fighting experience over any other Masters. Even the arrogant Kaecillus and the Zealots feared her to where they would only fight her after acquiring power from Dormammu and chose running away as the first option when she cornered them and only fought her when she had them trapped, during which she took out more than half of them by herself without breaking a sweat. Even after they have acquired the power boost they wanted to use to kill her and destroy the Masters of the Mystic Arts, she still stomps them with ease in a three-on-one fight and it's only due to Kaecillus catching her by surprise and sacrificing his own follower that he was able to kill her. Her death left the Sorcerer Supreme position vacant with no one able to take over yet and it was explicitly stated that having been the one who repelled most interdimensional threats, Earth has grown more vulnerable with her death.
  • Steve Rogers: Captain America is generally the best hand-to-hand physical combatant of all superhumans, the most experienced and versatile. He is world-widely acknowledged as the greatest soldier in human history, including by Nick Fury himself. He has beaten scores of Red Skull's HYDRA with their super-weapons, the Chitauri, S.H.I.E.L.D.-HYDRA, and Ultron Robots with ease despite all of them being highly dangerous invasions and apart from the millennium old Thor, who is likewise the most skilled warrior among the godly Asgardians, Steve is the most skilled of the Avengers. Indeed, his fighting skills even lets him beat Winter Soldier, who is his best-friend corrupted by HYDRA and has the same superhuman powers as him along with having decades of fighting experience, and when fighting against Tony Stark's faction in the Civil War, he overwhelms Black Panther, who is regarded as the best warrior in the extremely powerful but isolated nation of Wakanda with superhuman physical prowess comparable to his own, even when he was working with War Machine, and easily beats a rookie Spider-Man, and with Bucky's help was able to defeat Iron Man in combat. His skill also shows itself as he is the only normal superhuman who fights Thanos himself and not only survives but actually manages to hold his ground against the Mad Titan.
Steve: Those hostages could have died, Nick.
Nick Fury: I sent the greatest soldier in history to make sure that didn't happen.
  • Thanos: Thanos is the greatest warrior in the MCU. His immense physical power is further supported by his combat experience, cunning, and pragmatism. On top of that, he shows more proficiency with Infinity Stones than any character before him and pulls off moves that the heroes can never predict. In Infinity War, he tends to fight others directly before using the Gauntlet and easily defeats anyone he faces. In Endgame, relying only on his blade, his 2014 self is able to surpass the skill of Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor together. Thanos then defeats the more powerful Captain Marvel by being more skilled and smarter than her, and knocks out Thor and Rogers who try to use Stormbreaker to kill him while he is unarmed. It's only due to his arrogance that Tony outsmarts him and uses the Infinity Stones to kill him.
  • Thor Odinson: Thor is the greatest warrior among the god-like Asgardians after Odin has retired and is one of the best warriors in the universe, with centuries of training and combat experience. He is the best fighter among the Avengers and can handle the stronger Hulk with superior combat prowess. In both Avengers and Age of Ultron he is unfazed by the fighting and takes down the most amount of enemies, with only Ultron's vibranium form giving him some pause in an inconclusive fight. He also handily overpowers Iron Man and Captain America while severely holding back, defeats Loki, stalemates the Hulk (again, while holding back), and takes part in the team attack that cripples Vibranium Ultron. In his debut appearance he wrecks an entire army of Frost Giants, defeats the Destroyer, who Sif and the Warriors Three can't beat together, and wipes the floor with Loki while holding back as he doesn't want to kill him. In The Dark World he takes out a Kronan brute that the collective armies of both sides feared, one-shots Malekith who had previously shown himself capable of taking down multiple elite Asgardian warriors in seconds with just a knife, and even defeats Malekith after he tries to enhance himself with the Aether. In Ragnarok, Thor is weaker than Hela, but is able to hold her own against her for a sustained battle and inflict what would've been a lethal wound if not for her regeneration, and is in good enough shape afterwards to kill her remaining army more or less singlehandedly. Keep in mind that Hela literally killed the entire army of Asgard alone in about a minute. Then in Infinity War, while he loses to Thanos and the Black Order off-screen, once he gets his hands back on a proper Uru weapon he's ale to defeat the physically superior Mad Titan in practically a Single-Stroke Battle - after killing his remaining army. Even after getting out of shape and not fighting for 5 years, in Endgame, he is able to fight Thanos better than most of his fellow heroes and came very close to killing him.
  • Dora Milaje in general: They may be the most elite unenhanced fighting force on Earth. Best shown in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, when they easily curb-stomp Sam, Bucky and John Walker, respectively an Avenger, a super soldier and the US army's best serviceman. Before that, they nearly successfully subdue Erik - a Black Panther in full gear and were only defeated by his suit's new power that they weren't prepared for.
  • Okoye: She is stated at several points to be the finest warrior in Wakanda in terms of skill, while T'Challa is more like World's Strongest Man due to the Heart-Shaped Herb superpowers.
  • Shang-Chi: Was trained by his father, who is considered to be a great warrior king and leader of the Ten Rings with thousands of years of combat experience to supplement the supernatural powers of the Ten Rings, to be a master martial artist since a young age. Even after a decade of no longer being an assassin, he can still easily defeat several trained members of the Ten Rings. While it's ambiguous who would have won their final fight after Shang-Chi matures his fighting skill and masters the fighting style of Ta Lo, as Wenwu was holding back and Shang-Chi ended up willingly throwing the fight in a standstill after taking the Rings and seeing his father still ready to fight. After Wenwu gives his life to save his son, and him now wielding the Ten Rings, Shang-Chi has a strong claim to the title of the most skilled warrior on Earth.
Wenwu: I trained you so the most dangerous people in the world couldn't kill you.
  • Xu Wenwu: He is perhaps this on Earth, exceeding even Captain America, Black Panther, and Winter Soldier, with thousands of years of combat experience to supplement the supernatural powers of the Ten Rings, being considered to be a great warrior king and leader of the Ten Rings. He trained his son, Shang-Chi, to become someone who's more or less on Captain America's level and when they fight, he easily handles his son while clearly holding back the entire time. He's only killed by the Dweller-in-Darkness due to a surprise attack and saving his son first-hand.
Example from the main trope page, "Film"
  • The Marvel Cinematic Universe, composed of many worlds and organizations as it is, has many candidates for the title of the best fighter.
    • Thor is the greatest warrior among the god-like Asgardians after Odin has retired and probably the best warrior in the universe, with millennium of training and combat experience paired with tremendous power. In both physical strength and destructive capacity he's very close to the top of his universe, and earns his title as World's Best Warrior due to the few who surpass him in one area (e.g. Hulk has more raw strength, Scarlet Witch has potentially more powerful and destructive magic) being dwarfed by him in another (e.g. Hulk can't fly, shoot energy blasts, or fight with better instincts than a half-mad gorilla, and Scarlet Witch is a pure Squishy Wizard to Thor's Lightning Bruiser Magic Knight). He quickly establishes himself as the best fighter among the Avengers, twice handling the stronger Hulk with superior combat prowess and versatility while himself holding back. He's usually unfazed by the big fighting he and his friends get into and takes down the most amount of enemies. In his first film he defeats the Destroyer in seconds, who Sif and the Warriors Three (the greatest warriors in Asgard outside of the royal family) can't beat together, and curb-stomps his brother Loki (a powerful fighter in his own right) when he stops holding back. In his second film he one-shots Malekith, the leader of the Dark Elves, cleaves through half their army, and even defeats Malekith after he boosts himself with an Infinity Stone (however he loses to the much stronger Kurse in a straight fight, though this is partly because he had an ill-suited weapon for the task; Loki does better with a spear than he does with Mjolnir). Thor: Ragnarok at first furthers his reputation by having him defeat the legendary Surtur with ease in his base form. However it then reveals Hela, his older sister who has beaten and killed entire armies of Einhejar and Valkyrie with Odin as the only Asgardian better than her, also exceeds him in both skill and power, but even against her he still put up a strong fight (while everyone else is instantly killed or incapacitated) and with both Odin and Hela dead his title as the greatest Asgardian warrior is currently unchallenged. He accomplishes his greatest feat in Avengers: Infinity War when he shows up on Earth and kills much of Thanos's army by himself, and curb-stomps the Mad Titan (who is physically much stronger than him) in seconds by sticking an uru axe through his chest, though this was only achieved when he caught Thanos by surprise. Even after getting out of shape and not fighting for five years, in Avengers: Endgame, he is able to fight Thanos better than most of his fellow heroes, putting up a decent fight on his own even if he can't replicate his previous performance. After he returns to shape, his fourth film has him single-handedly defeat, with hardly any usage of his godly electrical powers, an entire army that the Guardians of the Galaxy were losing to, and during his fights with Gorr the God Butcher, Thor proves more than a match for him, whereas many gods were killed, Sif got curb-stomped and lost an arm, and even Valkyrie and Jane with Mjolnir giving her his powers struggling against him, forcing him to back off in their first fight, being the only one out of himself, Valkyrie, and Jane AKA Mighty Thor who is able to land solid hits on him directly, and even with a weapon he is ill-suited with, he still goes toe-to-toe with the God Butcher.
    • Another contender is the Mad Titan Thanos himself. Not only infamous and feared for his overwhelmingly superior physical power, Thanos also has millennia of training and combat experience fighting and conquering and killing off half of many species in the universe that grants him terrifying fighting skills, pragmatism and cunning that supplements his strength. In Infinity War, despite having the Infinity Gauntlet, the Mad Titan tends to fight others directly before using the Gauntlet and easily defeats anyone he faces with pure skill and power and whenever he uses the Infinity Gauntlet, he uses the Stones with skill beyond any other user to pull off attacks the heroes can never predict. His best feat is probably crushing both Thor and Hulk in under a minute in the opening scene, though that's partly because Thor didn't have a weapon at the time (having lost Mjolnir and having not yet acquired his axe, Stormbreaker). In Endgame, relying only on his own blade, his 2014 self surpasses the skill of Iron Man, Captain America, and an out of shape Thor together and even disarmed, he takes Thor and Rogers down when they were using Stormbreaker to try and kill him and even defeat the more powerful Captain Marvel by being more skilled and smarter than her. It's only due to his arrogance that Tony outsmarts him and uses the Infinity Stones to kill him. Overall, who takes the title between him and Thor depends on their equipment at the time of the match. They've had four encounters in total, note  each won two of them.
    • The Sorcerer Supreme of the Masters of the Mystic Arts, an ancient organization of sorcerers dedicated to protecting Earth from the dangers of other worlds, is generally considered to be the most skilled sorcerer and fighter among them. True enough, the last holder of the title, the Ancient One, is a 700 years old immortal sorcerer who can deliver a Curb-Stomp Battle to an entire group of dangerous former members of the organization and was feared by the group to where they opted to run away at first rather than engage her. Even after the Zealots had also gained the same dark power that she was using to survive for as long as she did, she still manages to trash them around with ease and only loses due to a surprising sneak attack that also took out one of the Zealots that she was moments from killing. Currently, however, the Sorcerer Supreme in charge, Wong, isn't actually the best sorcerer, although he's still among the best. The title belongs to Doctor Strange, who by the Infinity War had grew so skilled that he was able to not only put up a decent fight against Thanos in a Wizard Duel while the Mad Titan used four Infinity Stone, but actually even fight him in close-range better than a fellow hero who should be much more experienced than him. By the time Multiverse of Madness arrives, he is capable of putting up a better fight against Scarlet Witch than almost anyone because he is just that skilled, and an alternate version of Karl Mordo, the main universe counterpart being an extremely skilled sorcerer as well, can't even land a single hit on him in a physical fight while Strange was handcuffed. He is also able to defeat an alternate variant of him who is already a Sorcerer Supreme and has the Darkhold, disarming him successfully and then keeping pace with him before finally ending their duel. Actually, according to the Illuminati, Doctor Strange in any universe has the skill needed to be the best sorcerer and among the greatest threats the universes will ever know.
    • As for regular, non mystical, non supernatural humans, the title of the best warrior on Earth was held initially by Steve Rogers AKA Captain America, specifically stated to be the greatest soldier in history and the leader of the Avengers, being the second best fighter in the Avengers in terms of pure skill apart from naturally Thor, who as a Physical God with decades of fighting experience long before Steve was born cannot possibly be compared to anyone of Earthly origin. He's of course a Super-Soldier, but despite the fact it doesn't mean much in a world where beings of not only god-level physical prowess, which is beyond what any human serum or earthly boost could compare to, but also incredulous supernatural powers, through sheer skill, he's defeated not only entire groups of Unskilled, but Strong superhuman enemies, came out on top against other superhumans who ARE Strong and Skilled by his standards, but has even stood up to and beaten those who either have numerous advantages over him or are straight up far more powerful than him, note  With him retired, Bucky Barnes takes the title as the only other remaining Super-Soldier with extensive combat training as well as great fighting skills. In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, he is heads and shoulders above Sam Wilson, the one who was chosen to be Steve's successor, training him to be the next Captain America, and only loses a fight with the opposing super soldiers, Flag Smashers, due to being unaware of their powers, proceeding to deliver Curb Stomp Battles like pamphlets upon them anytime he fights them afterwards. Even while holding back and not trying to kill, he puts up a serious fight against John Walker after he's taken the serum and also has the shield, while unarmed and having none of the weapons he could use against Steve before, and once that is taken away, despite being more battered than him, the fight ends in a matter of seconds as Bucky casually manhandles him and throws him at Sam.
    • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings introduces another of Earth's contenders; the villainous example of Xu Wenwu. He was a peerless warrior with centuries of experience in combat, conquest and leadership who demonstrated a level of skill, precision and versatility that rivals, if not surpasses the likes of Black Panther, Captain America, Black Widow and Daredevil. Wenwu is the one who discovered and utilized the Ten Rings, a powerful artifact of unknown origin and his skill was so great it was made a legend in modern times, with even his wife Ying Li noting that he was unstoppable in his prime. His first scene establishes him as a One-Man Army who slaughtered the Saljuk army by himself and seize their headquarters for his own. He remained the unquestioned leader of the Ten Rings, decimating forces all across the globe until he practically ruled Earth from the shadows, remaining undetected and unopposed for over a thousand years. The Ten Rings are considered some of the deadliest fighters on Earth, on par with the Black Widows... and they all learned everything they know from him. The movie makes it clear time and again that as talented and well-trained Shang-Chi and Xialing are, they are no match for him. He effortlessly defeats his own son (who himself is a contender for this) in a straight duel and is clearly holding back out of a desire not to hurt him and he casually shrugs at the sight of Ta Lo villagers (ancient and powerful warriors from another dimension with unique supernatural abilities) ready to attack him. Shang-Chi himself has stated the only person to have ever beaten him in a fight was Ying Li herself, and she's from the aforementioned Ta Lo, meaning no one in all of Earth has ever been able to defeat him. It's quite telling that the Iron Gang, one of his oldest and most bitter enemies, waited until he was gone to attack his home, as they likely knew they would have been dead in seconds otherwise. Considering the absolutely brutal Curb-Stomp Battle he delivered to the men he sought out after they killed his wife they were right to be cautious.

^^^ The thing is it isn't confirmed that Aubrey had a crush on Sunny at any point: only the inverse with Sunny crushing on Aubrey. There are also several other instances in the game where Aubrey similarly blushes that don't relate to Sunny specifically. I feel as though the ambiguity of it makes the example more appropriate for an Implied Love Interest entry rather than Crush Blush, but I wanted to get additional thoughts on whether Implied Love Interest was valid in this case.

Leaning on the Fourth Wall seems all right to me (though the second one could potentially fit Genre Savvy or Meta Guy more — don't know the work so can't say more than that), any specific reasons why you're unsure?

Watched a certain film earlier, and thought of a trope, but... would it actually fit:

  • The Shaggy Dog (Adaptational Mundanity): In the original film's continuity, the dog transformations are the product of magic, triggered by the Borgia Ring and the incantation on it (causing Wilby to temporarily be fused with a large sheepdog and take on its form). In the 2006 remake, the transformation comes from science — when the DNA of the dog Khyi Yang Po (AKA Shaggy) enters the bloodstream of Dave Douglas via "Shaggy" biting him, it triggers Dave's transformation into an identical dog.

Until next time...

Elimination Houdini seems to be for characters who routinely escape elimination, but EliminationHoudini.Total Drama breaks it up into multiple episodes, and it really reads more like a list of characters who didn't go home in one particular episode despite doing poorly in a challenge. Like, one example is Leonard not being voted out in episode one of the season, but he was eliminated in the very next episode.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.
