Trivia / Masters of the Universe: Revelation

Go To

  • Amateur Cast: The Japanese dub uses mainly either newcomers, particularly for He-Man and a few others, or voice actors who normally dub foreign media or minor roles elsewhere. That doesn't stop them from doing their best effort, however.
  • Approval of God:
    • If Alan Oppenheimer's participation means anything, he clearly approves of the show.
    • Melendy Britt, the original voice of She-Ra and other characters from her show, seems to have approved of the continuation on her Facebook, calling it the "loving force" of the "original fans".
  • Celebrity Voice Actor: The voice cast is largely comprised of popular actors in geek media, including DC Comics and Game of Thrones. Additionally, Alan Oppenheimer returns.
  • Dear Negative Reader: Kevin Smith has responded to people tweeting directly to him about him shifting the show's focus from He-Man to Teela, stating that the character would have a big role but not to the exclusion of He-Man, while also calling out tweets being rude towards him or calling the show "woke".
  • Exiled from Continuity: How is Adora/She-Ra doing? What's going on over in Etheria now that magic is fading away? Well… since He-Man and She-Ra's licenses are currently owned by different companies (Netflix licensed He-Man and Dreamworks has the adaption rights to She-Ra), we probably won't get an answer anytime soon. Specially after Amazon Prime announced a live-action adaptation of She-Ra. Though it isn't actually the case, given parts of the sequel series including its stinger.
  • Full Circle Portraying: Diedrich Bader, who first voiced Batman in Batman: The Brave and the Bold and whose main role in this series was King Randor, is the first Batman actor to also voice voiced Trap Jaw, which he also did in this series. The second voice actor of the Dark Knight to voice Trap Jaw would be Roger Craig Smith (who first voiced Bruce Wayne in Batman: Arkham Series prequel games) in He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (2021).
  • Lying Creator: Kevin Smith constantly denied rumors that the show would actually be about Teela instead of series protagonist He-Man/Prince Adam, even going so far as to denounce Youtubers ClownfishTV when one of their insiders leaked plot details about the show. The first episode ends with Adam sacrificing himself to prevent the destruction of the universe. From there, Teela serves as the lead character, with the following four episodes revolving around Adam's “death”, which has caused magic to slowly dissipate in Eternia, as well as Teela's own feelings about being Locked Out of the Loop. The "lying" aspect is somewhat lessened by the second half of the series, however, with Adam coming back in a Deuteragonist role, though Teela's character arc is still given a significant focus.
  • Marth Debuted in "Smash Bros.": The Japanese dub offers an interesting case: While not the first production of the Masters of the Universe franchise to be dubbed in that language, this is the first dubbed animated work featuring He-Man. This could cause some problems for Japanese viewers, since the series is a sequel from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983), and some plot point requires had watched that series beforehand.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Due to the original surviving cast members being too old to fully reprise their roles, all of the characters were recast.
    • Melissa Benoist is set to replace Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela for the follow-up series Masters of the Universe: Revolution.
    • The Latin American Spanish dub also does this, with the additional caveat that, unlike other works from the Masters of the Universe franchise, who were dubbed in Mexico, this one was dubbed in Colombia, though this is not the first time Colombian voice actors dubbed an animated production featuring He-Man.
    • A case within the new series in the Brazilian dub: King Randor was dubbed by Leonardo José in the part 1, but replaced by Jorge Vasconcellos in Part 2, due to to the former treating against lung cancer (and eventually dying of that in November, 2021).
  • Playing Against Type:
  • Production Posse:
  • Promoted Fanboy:
    • Most of the crew were fans of the original show growing up. Kevin Smith has said he wasn't that into the franchise, but because it was the main show that was always there back in his childhood, he has watched every episode of the series and is very familiar with the lore.
    • Composer Bear McCreary, by his own admission, is a lifelong fan of the original show. So the chance to work on a continuation was a dream come true for him.
  • Real-Life Relative:
  • Remake Cameo: Alan Oppenheimer, the voice of Skeletor and other characters from the original, is now the voice for Moss-Man.
    • The Italian dub has three of them: Laura Boccanera (first voice of Teela in the original series) as Sorceress, Mario Cordova (second voice of He-Man in the original series) as King Randor and Ivo De Palma (voice of He-Man in The New Adventures of He-Man) as Scare Glow.
    • The Brazilian Portuguese dub has Isaac Bardavid (Skeletor in the original series) as Scare Glow and Fátima Mourão (She-Ra in the first dub of the Filmation's show) as Queen Marlena.
    • Live action Evil-Lyn actress Meg Foster will voice Motherboard in the second season.
  • Role Reprise: In the Italian dub, Cinzia De Carolis reprises her role as Evil-Lyn from the first season of the original series.
    • In the Brazilian Portuguese dub, Mário Jorge Andrade reprises his role as Orko, and Flávio Colatrello (who had retired from dubbing) reprises his role as Tri-Klops. Mário Jorge is the only voice actor to have voiced his character in all three He-Man series.
      • Played with in regards to Guilherme Lopes as Skeletor: he'd already voiced the character in the second dub for the She-Ra movie, but Isaac Bardavid was the official voice for the character in most incarnations, and didn't reprise it due to his old age.
  • Sequel Gap: The show was released in 2021, 36 years after the end of the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe in 1985.
  • So My Kids Can Watch: In the second aftershow, Lena Headey states this was her motivation for joining the show.
  • Spoiled by the Merchandise: The "Masterverse" line of toys based on the series spoiled the presence of numerous characters and their updated designs, most notably Skelegod, a Skeletor empowered by the Power of Grayskull.
  • Typecasting:
    • Lena Headey plays a complicated villainess in a fantasy setting who is in the shadow of a more powerful male, and plots to seize power for herself? Evil-Lyn in this version is remarkably similar to Cersei Lannister.
    • Sarah Michelle Gellar's typecasting as Action Girls serves her well for voicing Teela.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The initial pitch was for Adam to simply lose the ability to become He-Man, causing him to join Teela on the quest to bring magic back. The second half of the season ends up exploring this pitch.
    • The character Ileena was initially intended to appear in the show, and be voiced by Kevin Smith's daughter, but she was ultimately cut.
  • Working Title: End of the Universe.
