Jason Mewes' works provide examples of:

  • Adam Westing:
    • Most of Mewes' characters outside of The View Askewniverse are based on Jay.
    • He and Smith play (for legal reasons, Smith stipulates) unnamed security guards in Season 4, Episode 17 of The Flash, but they are clearly just Jay and Silent Bob.
  • Ascended Fanboy: Being friends with Kevin Smith, he tends to get brought along on a lot of Smith's projects.
    • As an avid comic book fan he has appeared on two episodes of The Flash. Amusingly, the show's writers went ahead and wrote him into the first episode after Kevin entered negotiations to direct because, as Kevin tells it, they assumed Mewes would already be with him. Luckily, he was, and luckily, Jason was a big fan of the show and agreed immediately.
    • He and Smith were both fans of the original Degrassi Junior High and appeared in its Sequel Series Degrassi: The Next Generation.
    • He has also said that he was a fan of He-Man and later appeared in Masters of the Universe: Revelation as Stinkor.
    • He and Smith are both fans of the late Wes Craven. They cameoed as Jay and Silent Bob in Scream 3.
      • Craven had a cameo as himself in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
  • Brick Joke: He and Smith were interviewed in the crowd af an episode of All Elite Wrestling's "Dynamite" to promote Jay and Silent Bob Reboot which features a cameo from then-AEW world champion Chris Jericho. The pair are confronted by a jobber tag team who tell them that Morris Day and the Time sucked.
  • Character Catchphrase: During his childhood, Mewes would punctuate the more risqué of his jokes with "Neh", which meant "I'm kidding, this is just a joke, don't beat me up". With time, "Neh" became "Nootch", then "Snootch", and ultimately led to the creation of the now-famous "Snootch to the Nootch", "Snootchie-Bootchies", and "Snoogans", used by Jason both in-character as Jay and in real life.
  • The Danza: The part of Jay was written specifically for him and based on him. "Jay" is a shortened form of "Jason", which he often went by as a kid.
  • The Ditz: Jay is frequently this. Lester in Zack and Miri Make a Porno is less severe, but still qualifies.
  • Funny Character, Boring Actor: Admits to being this. While his signature character Jay is based on his antics from his teenage years, adult Mewes is more of a shy Shrinking Violet. During his joint interviews with Kevin Smith, he tends to let Kevin do most of the talking.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: He's the Trope Namer! Jay frequently introduces Silent Bob as his "hetero life mate". This is also applicable in Real Life.
  • Motor Mouth: His most famous and frequent credit is that of Jay from The View Askewniverse who loves to talk and rarely shuts up. Since the character is based on him, this tends to come up in many of his roles.
  • One of Us: Shares his love for all things nerdy with Smith. He also streams on Twitch.
  • Recovered Addict: Mewes has struggled with addiction for much of his life (but reports maintaining sobriety since 2010). His status as a recovering addict was incorporated into Jay's character in Clerks II.
  • Stoners Are Funny: Jay and Silent Bob are paragons of the stoner humor genre.
  • Those Two Guys: Jay and Silent Bob on film, and in Real Life.
  • Vulgar Humor: Unsurprisingly, as most of his credits are in Kevin Smith films. He's also fond of this kind of humor in Real Life as shown in many behind the scenes features, or on the Jay and Silent Bob Get Old podcast.
  • Write Who You Know: His character Jay in The View Askewniverse is based on him.
