Perhaps the signature trope of Not Always Right and its sister sites are customers, workers, teachers, etc. who, for whatever reason, are just plain jerks or otherwise behave badly and/or treat others poorly. It's gotten to the point where the site has a "Jerk" tag dedicated to this trope – one that has more than twelve thousand stories as of April 2024. While many are simply garden variety (eg, said customer is having a bad day), some stories are particularly egregious:


Not Always Right

  • This customer decides the submitter—faking a smile due to a migraine—looks too happy, and shines a flashlight in their eyes.
  • This dad at a Harry Potter book launch refuses to accept that his daughter was sorted into Ravenclaw, even though she wanted to be sorted into Ravenclaw.
  • Minor example here. A customer is asked to please not steal from the tip jar. His reply? "Too late. It's happening."
  • And another — an employee asks a customer to help make change for a hundred dollar bill; the customer agrees, then rips the bill in half.note 
  • This customer, too. More than twenty items in the 20-or-less items lane? Yep. Mouthing off people who try to make their kids behave? Yep. Encouraging the kid when he throws a heavy object at the cashier's face, causing them injury, and further saying they don't deserve to be treated with respect? Oh yeah. The worst part is, they got away before anyone could arrest their asses. One can only hope karma will bite hard later.
  • This mother's response to her son almost ramming a heavy cart into a worker? "Don’t worry sweetie. You’ll get him next time!" You heard that right — she's out to deliberately injure decent people.
  • This mother drags her sick kid to a coffee shop and keeps him there despite the kid's and other customers' protests, to the point where the kid throws up in the middle of the store. She gets a free coffee, and before leaving has the gall to say "See you tomorrow!" She's willing to repeatedly demean and traumatize her kid for a fucking drink. You can't get much more rotten than that.
  • This man throws some roaches at a pool employee to freak them out. Worse yet, he implies that he's going to try to scare them even more, which drives them to quit their job.
  • This asshole asks where the canned food is, but despite getting a response, refuses to do anything until the worker actually walks over to the aisle and looks themselves. After they go through that, the jackass doesn't even thank them and says “Fuck you, retard!” instead. He seems to believe two things — that workers are all incompetent even if they've worked there for a while, and they don't deserve to be treated with respect.
  • This husband and wife literally walk around the local grocery store just to insult the people they encounter.
  • These two guys here qualify because they're trying to frame innocent people, but the wheelchair-bound person especially so. Deliberately taking advantage of other people's courtesy is quite low.
  • How does this asshole thank a fast food worker for keeping her health in mind? Throw her meal at the worker, causing major harm to their face. She just then walks out without any regard to the worker's well-being. Presumably, everyone else there was so stunned by her monstrous behavior that they didn't stop her either.
  • Go read those labels for me! What, I can read them myself? No way! Clearly, you're lazy and don't have enough to do between your regular duties so I'm going to be an asshole about it!
  • This customer takes a phone from a worker's hands and tries to "fix" it, despite having no idea what he's doing. In the end, he smashes the phone on the ground and just walks out, saying that the thing is broken beyond repair.
  • This customer decides that a man using an electric scooter isn't crippled, even though he is crippled, and throws him off the scooter. When the manager comes and throws her out, she claims that this was unjust, vandalizes the store, and later files a complaint! Luckily, neither the manager nor the man ever saw her in the store again.
  • This criminal, upon realizing that he returned a rental truck too late and would be charged extra, tried to take the keys back. He attacked the worker and swiped the keys right out of their hand, cutting it. The police were called, but the worst part was that they wouldn't press charges because the criminal wasn't trying to hurt the worker — he was just trying to get the keys. Yes, he didn't mean to smash his shoulder into a worker and slice their hand open, he just wanted the keys. The keys he was supposed to return. To sum it up, he assaulted another person, tried to steal a company's property, and thanks to some corrupt cops, got away with it. One can only hope karma bites him hard later.
  • This old curmudgeon is blatant about taking advantage of a coffee pot from a cafe. He manages to down an entire urn (enough for thirty cups) and afterwards has the gall to complain that it's empty and demand it be refilled for him!
  • This man is so blatantly racist, he refused to even speak to anyone not white. Too bad the employee he did decide to flag down was half Native American, who quickly ejected the man off the premises.
  • This guy starts with Insane Troll Logic and escalates every time he's caught in a lie. When he calls the police and the operator refuses to talk to take his call because he's not part of the library staff, he makes up a bomb threat.
  • This asshole, after having her lie exposed, harms a ten-year-old girl in a fast-food restaurant, traumatizing the girl so much that she never returns to the restaurant. You can't stoop much lower than this.
  • This group of mothers who freeload at a restaurant and care not one bit that their daughters are making a mess of the place.
  • In this story, the submitter is given too much change, and upon returning it is thanked by the cashier, who tells him that she could have lost her job over it. The customer behind the submitter, despite clearly hearing all of this, immediately asks the submitter to give the extra money to him instead since he "actually works for his money" or some other self-centered reasoning like that.
  • This customer kicks an employee who doesn't respond to her immediately (the employee has both hearing loss and vision problems on their right side, and the customer was whispering their request), and then tries to claim that the employee kicked her instead. It all falls apart when the submitter speaks up for the coworker; the asshole customer is thrown out, corporate hangs up on her when she calls to complain, and then when she for some reason calls the cops on the store, they review the security footage and nearly arrest her.
  • This asshole acts extremely discourteous to a nine-months pregnant woman, butting past her to get into a bathroom she was just about to use, reasoning that some other bathrooms were not too far for her to walk to.
  • The beginning of this one could practically count as a heartwarming moment when the customer at a drive-thru chooses to leave a blank check to cover the bill of whoever came next. Unfortunately, the beneficiary turns it into a Moment of Jerkass when, upon learning this, he orders a ton of food and gift cards, to the tune of well over $100.
  • This doctor, who continuously reminds everyone that she's a doctor and is above everyone else, forces her way into a scholarship fund dinner despite being late for reservations, has the gall to demand a discount, is rude and egotistical in person, and doesn't even bother donating to the scholarship fund for which the dinner was raising money.
  • This customer brings 20 items into a 12-item-limit express lane, and when admonished and told to use the regular checkout next time, bluntly refuses, saying "express is faster".
  • This guy cuts his way past a deli line and fully states his intentions to steal a sandwich meant for someone else.
  • This gentleman sees the submitter sweeping outside the restaurant and proceeds to dump his entire ashtray on the ground.
  • This honeymoon couple got one upgrade to first class and want to sit next to each other, so they assume the submitter will gladly give up their first class seat to sit in an economy class seat. When the submitter refuses, they demand he be kind to them, since they are on their honeymoon. The flight attendant tells them to either both go back to their economy class seats or leave the plane because they harassed another passenger. They choose to go back to their economy seats and the flight attendant mentions that their account has been flagged to not give them free upgrades anymore because of their behavior.
  • This rotten man claims that a server lied to him about a coupon and as such wants his donation refunded. This request shocked everybody because the donation was for childhood cancer! The manager is even a breast cancer survivor herself. You really are on a different level if you're asking to refund a donation to childhood cancer.
  • This woman is mad that her daughter was "injured" by broken glass under a table (that the child shouldn't have been under in the first place). The injuries are very minor (a few cuts) and the mother goes completely ballistic and proceeds to grab several packs of jam and begin smearing them into the table and the chairs just to prove a point.
  • A woman walks into a children's clothing shop just to shout down and belittle an already frazzled employee while pretending she's a customer. Fortunately, an older woman whom the employee had just helped puts the other woman in her place and calls her out on trying to ruin the employee's day for no reason.
  • This group of women raise a complete fuss over two bottles of cheap French wine.
  • This woman gets mad that she can't use the bathroom so she proceeds to shit her pants just to make a point. She could be saying that just as a threat, but who's to say she didn't?
  • This guest at a major Orlando theme park believes the park's parent company owns the entire state, and demands they fire a worker at some restaurant outside the park, claiming she is owed a superior level of service because she spent a lot of money at the park. As the customer service rep tries to explain to her, that doesn't change the fact that they don't own the restaurant and have no authority to fire its employees, but she just gets increasingly belligerent and verbally abusive, accusing the rep of being the restaurant worker's "trash girlfriend". After the rep has had enough and hangs up, she calls them back at least twice, demanding that both the restaurant worker and rep be fired.
  • This man crashes into a woman’s (who is the submitter’s friend) parked car in the employee parking lot. He immediately goes off on the woman, in spite of his car being in the middle of the road, and her car being otherwise properly parked, and later yells at a cashier on her first day for ten minutes for asking if he had a loyalty card. It turns out that he’s blind in one eye and has very bad vision in the other, so he’s essentially blind (since he refuses to wear any corrective lenses), which has caused him to get in several accidents, which is found out because the friend is an optician and the man needs an optician to sign off that he’s safe to drive again. The friend refuses to sign off, and instead calls the police. When the police find the man, he tries to drive away and slams into the barrier to the point of causing damage to the barrier, causing him to be arrested for reckless driving, driving without due care and attention, and driving while banned, while the store takes him to court for the barrier. The friend had an uninsured driver clause, as the man’s insurance was invalid due to his being banned from driving.
  • These customers, with the aid of an inattentive worker on the phone, cancel someone else's reservation at a restaurant that they've already spent all day in just so they don't have to go somewhere else for dinner.
  • This douchebag overhears a conversation between a cashier and a regular customer about the cashier's mother, who fell and had to go to the hospital, and when he goes up to the checkout he spitefully shouts at her that he does not give one crap about her and her mother and she needs to focus on checking him out. The cashier checks him out and then immediately quits.
  • This nutbar, peeved that he's getting too many fake emails purporting to be from a certain company, decides to repeatedly call the company just to waste their time.
  • This guy takes Unsatisfiable Customer to a whole new level. He yells at the submitter for having to pick his own seat, for the price of a ticket, for the price of food, for having to put butter and salt on his popcorn, and for not having to pour his own soda, and for good measure, yells at the ticket-taker for asking to see his ticket. Sadly, theatre policy won't let the staff throw his ass out.
    I genuinely think he was just in a bad mood and wanted to be a jerk to feel better. He got mad about literally every step of the movie-going process.
  • This woman tries to swipe a woman's meds at the pharmacist by claiming to be the submitter, then when that fails, swipes the submitter's bag with the meds in them, then she stops to insult the submitter for being on antidepressants before emptying out the submitter's bag, picking up her actual meds, then running out with a smile on her face. The CCTV footage is given to the police, but the submitter never finds out if karma comes for her or not.
  • This mother lets her children trash the submitter's face-painting stand, then notices that her son has drunk half of the submitter's water – the only thing the submitter has to drink. Her response? Give a sarcastic “It’s yours? Too bad," then leave with her kids, who throw out the rest of the drink.
  • This dad brings his kids into the pet store on a regular basis, and each time, the kids are out of control, his behaviour is even worse, and they seldom buy anything to boot. On this time alone, he hits on the submitter, makes a number of ableist slurs (while claiming his son has "super autism" so he can get preferential treatment). Then when the submitter's climbing a ladder to fetch something for him, he shakes the ladder to try and make her fall off and laughs all the while. Thankfully, the manager backs her up and bans him and his kids, so they leave (with the dad knocking over some displays as he goes for good measure). He then complains to corporate, but after the manager shows them the video footage of the ladder incident as well as statements from employees outlining his and his family's bad behaviour in the past, his ban is extended chainwide.
  • This customer sees the submitter in pain and assumes she's a druggie, and gives them a string of insults before assaulting them and leaving. Even worse is that submitter remarks that it's been a month and the attacker hasn't been found.
  • This father, upon being told by the submitter that a frozen drink machine is broken, tells his two children to “Throw things at her until the machine is fixed.” Thankfully, before they get the chance, the submitter's physically imposing manager steps in and intimidates them off.
  • This customer deliberately makes a fuss over a tiny hole in a bag of sugar and insists on a member of staff getting her a new one because she “wanted to show them what a white ghetto b*** is.” Thankfully, this behaviour did not rub off on her daughter, who offered to get a new bag herself and later apologized to the cashier.
  • This customer regularly goes out of her way to insult and body-shame other customers (including her own husband).
  • This customer calls the submitter around their lunch break and deliberately wastes their time so that by the time the call concludes, their food is cold.
  • This abusive caretaker constantly belittles and insults the child under her care, and for good measure insults the submitter when she thinks they were "talking s*** about me" behind her back (the submitter had lowered her voice to try and calm the kid down). She gets herself arrested for striking the child.

Not Always Working:

  • This racist receptionist deliberately misinterprets the submitter's first name and refuses to take her surname, resulting in her missing an optometrist appointment, and, when confronted over it, blames her for having a weird name. The submitter's mother has to change doctors because of that receptionist.
    Receptionist: Well, too bad, you’ll have to wait. Now either go sit down with your ugly four-eyed daughter or take your [racial slur] selves home and make another appointment!
  • This boss blasts the submitter with an ableist rant for not wrapping a breakfast wrap to her satisfaction. Fortunately, she ends up fired because a customer is friends with the district manager and immediately reports her.
    Boss: How the f*** do you think this is wrapped correctly? Are you an idiot? Are you slooooooow or something? Hurr dee durr, I’m too stupid to wrap a f***ing breakfast sandwich!
  • This retail assistant manager acts like a jerk to pregnant people, forcing them to do work meant for other people and calling them the wrong name, for seemingly no reason. Unfortunately for the assistant manager, that behavior results in her getting chewed out by the store manager, and eventually transferred to another store when she continues harassing other pregnant employees despite his warning.
  • This credit card agency worker ignored a clerk's inquiry: "I heard you the first time, but that just went over my head so I ignored it. There’s nothing I can help you with here. Have a nice day."
  • This person at a truck reservation company refuses to reserve a truck for a customer and demands that they do it online themselves: "Uh, well, then I’d have to take down ALL of your information. I’m kinda busy, so... please visit our website and reserve the truck there. I don’t have time to help you."
  • A new manager at a company harasses an autistic employee because he cannot talk. One day she orders him to answer the phone despite him being mute. When the mute worker presses buttons repeatedly and hangs up instead of talking, the manager screams at him and fires him on the spot for insubordination. Fortunately, Laser-Guided Karma kicks in very quickly - the mute worker was actually talking in Morse Code with his brother, the CEO. Upon learning about what happened, the CEO promptly scolds the manager for her actions and fires her instead.
  • This nurse refused to give the migraine-suffering submitter (who was unable to take NSAIDs due to adverse reactions) the opiate shot for which she'd already made an appointment, tried to lie to her after the doctor said she could have the shot to get her to leave, accused her of being a drug addict, and threw the medication that had been prepared for her away. Fortunately a second nurse intervened and got the patient her medication. It turns out the bad nurse was married to one of the doctors at the same clinic, and was already on thin ice for her conduct; after the patient called to complain, both the nurse and her husband were fired.
  • The employees at this eye care facility are determined to blame the submitter for the fact that they have no record of their appointment, and even suggest that the submitter is in the wrong office. Eventually they determine that the submitter was supposed to have come in the previous day... except that the submitter made their appointment that morning. When they learn that the submitter spoke with a fifth employee who is not currently present, they realize that the mistake was his — but don't apologize for having been excessively rude.
  • This restaurant employee seems to not care one whit about hairs in a customer's sandwich, which is a clear health violation, and actually chastises the customer for complaining about it. Luckily, the manager straightens the situation out.
  • The customer who dealt with these pizza place workers isn't as lucky. Not only are the employees lazy and assholes, so is the manager, and he thinks the employees are the best he's ever had! The customer does get her payback, though, when the pizza place closes down and the former employees attempt to get a job where the customer works.
  • This employee wears their LGBT bigotry on their sleeve like it's some badge of honor. The manager, thankfully, has no tolerance for that crap, and fires them within the week.
  • This cashier acts like a jerk to the submitter, who's on the WIC (Women, Infants and Children) program, by refusing to help her separate which food items are permissible under WIC and forces her to do it herself while blaming her for making his work hard. When he purposely damages her eggs and tells her to get a new carton herself, his coworker, the bagger, has enough; he calls their manager, who is angry about his behavior and makes sure the cashier does his work properly under his watch. And the submitter's baby daughter gives a satisfying "The Reason You Suck" Speech on his bad behavior.
  • This Assistant Division Officer acts like an asshole to a sailor who is about to get married later that afternoon. The officer gives the sailor a list of tasks that will make him late for his wedding because he didn't like that the sailor and his fiancée were not getting married at a church but rather at city hall by a Justice of Peace, and proceeds to insult them by calling them sinners for ruining the sanctity of marriage. Despite the officer's talk about marriage, it is later revealed the officer was a Hypocrite when his wife discovered he was having an affair with a Rear Admiral's daughter!
  • This nurse thinks it's real cute that the submitter is acting like her disabled friend (the actual patient) is a real person with real feelings. Luckily, the doctor was right there, and gave the nurse a reality check (and a suspension).
  • These nurses, seeing an unconscious, bleeding man and his daughter breaking her leg trying to carry him into the hospital, refuse to help because they automatically assume the man is a drunk and the daughter is a druggie.
  • This cashier immediately calls for security just from seeing a Japanese person approaching the counter, automatically assuming she's going to steal something and calling her a "ching-chong" while the guard searches her bag. When it unsurprisingly turns out she made shit up, rather than apologize as the guard suggests, she shouts, "As if! I'm going on break!" The next time the submitter went there, that cashier was long gone.
  • This doctor acts holier-than-thou about a patient coming in hours after they notice symptoms (since they were at work and couldn't come in earlier), and then for good measure insults them for an unrelated condition they've had since birth. The patient outright refuses to let that doctor touch them after that point; fortunately, since this is far from the first time that doctor had been an asshole to patients, he's fired almost immediately.
  • This waiter, during slow moments where he's the only one working, decides to go up to perfectly-behaved customers and go completely berserk at them for no reason at all — and then, since he's the only waiter who saw what happened, make up false (and completely ridiculous) complaints from them and blame them for the results of his rampage; it's revealed he's gotten at least five other families thrown out and two families banned from the restaurant by pulling this stunt. Fortunately, the restaurant has security cameras, and once the boss checks the footage, he promptly fires the waiter without a word, and then compensates the submitter's meal.
  • This service rep of a bank refuses to believe that a charge is wrong, and shrugs it off by saying "Our system doesn't make mistakes", no matter how much proof the submitter gives that it's an error on their part. It escalates to the rep insulting her over it, and then for good measure accusing her of being a scammer when she asks for the rep's name to file a complaint; unsurprisingly, as the submitter discovers when filing the complaint, the asshole was fired the instant she ended the call.
  • These cooks thought it was funny to shut a claustrophobic high-functioning autistic worker in a walk-in freezer, causing the worker to almost have a full blown panic attack. Unfortunately, even though the submitter scolded the cooks, their manager agreed with them, thinking it was just a harmless prank. The worker quit that job immediately, and the submitter followed suit two months later.
    • This cook likewise thought it was funny to lock a pair of coworkers, one of them nine months pregnant, in a walk-in freezer - and then he forgot about them for twenty minutes because of a sudden rush of customers. And, again unfortunately, the manager actually writes the pregnant worker up for going back there in the first place.
  • These night shift workers at a retirement home refused to do extra work beyond their normal shift when the morning shift was delayed by a snowstorm, resulting in numerous residents being left to wait for assistance for more than an hour.
  • This manager refuses to compensate a customer for chicken sandwiches which made the customer ill, lying about store policy both at the time of purchase and at the time of the refund attempt.
  • This coworker is noted to always be in a bad mood, and is invariably insensitive or even insulting to her fellow staff. This encounter, she knocks a load of watches the submitter had just taken out of a draw over and some even back in. Her only response to what she just did is "I’m such a b***! Ha!", which the submitter doesn't dispute.
  • This employee makes the assumption that a person is thin because they're anorexic (they're actually recovering from the flu). Even if they were right about it, calling them an "anorexic freak" to their face and trying to ring them up for a large regular soda and a cheeseburger against their request is not the way to handle such a situation.
  • This boss proudly displays her racism against a black delivery man like a billboard on a highway, calling the delivery company seemingly every day to complain about even the tiniest of mistakes made by the delivery man. The author eventually has enough of her bullshit and quits a week later, only to run into the same delivery man at her new job. The author then reveals the truth about her ex-boss, which ultimately ends up saving the delivery man's job as his manager was with him at the time; turns out, because one white supremacist complained about him so often for nonsensical reasons, one valid complaint was enough to threaten his job. Now knowing all complaints except one were racially motivated, the delivery company cuts the ex-boss's contract as a result of her hostility towards the delivery man.
  • This waitress first insists that the customer cannot order a certain dish without mushrooms. Then when the submitter orders a dish that doesn't come with mushrooms, the waitress intentionally screws it up by putting down extra extra mushrooms on the ticket, and proceeds to dismiss it as an accident. Fortunately, the manager sees through her lies and comps the submitter's meal, and the waitress is fired shortly after.
  • This coworker and manager do not like the submitter, and do whatever they can to get her fired, to no avail. When the coworker wishes to go to a music festival, she demands the submitter swap vacation time with her (after the manager tells her that if the submitter refuses, the manager will swap them anyway). The submitter refuses to do so, stating that the store manager had already approved a ten day vacation across the country three months prior. Therefore, the submitter verifies the schedule twice, once immediately before the conversation and once on her last day before vacation, and gets a supporting statement from a different coworker. As such, when the submitter is called into the store manager’s office, she is easily able to prove that the errant manager swapped the coworker with the submitter without the submitter’s permission after the submitter left. The proof, previous problems, and supporting testimony get both the coworker and manager fired.
  • This racist waiter, rather than give a black customer what he ordered, a lemonade and a cheeseburger, instead told the chef to make the customer sweet tea and fried chicken, a stereotypical Southern Black dish.
  • This vendor of homemade bath products at a street market runs off the submitter from his stand just because they happen to work at a store that sells products he clearly believes to be inferior to his own.
  • This sandwich shop worker is rude to the submitter and tries to screw up his order for the implied reason that she doesn't find him attractive. (She had no problem helping out (and flirting with) a construction worker ahead of the submitter.)
  • This boss fires the submitter for the sole reason that they were having a bad day and needed to take it out on someone. Unsurprisingly, the union isn't happy, and the submitter eventually gets her job back... while later, the manager loses theirs for using the company credit card for personal reasons.
  • This amusement park worker not only ignores the submitter when they tell them not to let anybody ride in a particular part of the ride they're supervising because somebody defecated on the seats and they weren't able to finish cleaning, but they then immediately go on break after breaking the news that somebody has now vomited in it too.
  • This store owner claims they're going on a ten minute lunch break, but ends up abandoning the submitter (on their first day) for hours to have sex. Then, after the submitter calls for assistance with processing a credit card refund, she takes another hour to get there and when she does blames the submitter for being an idiot. The (fortunately understanding) customer immediately offers the submitter another job, which they take on the spot.
  • This boss follows a heavily pregnant, female employee to an antenatal appointment regarding a possible complication with her pregnancy, tries to force her to continue taking notes for him in the doctor's office until he's chased out by the receptionist, and then files a grievance against the pregnant employee for leaving work without his permission. The head of HR, herself a mother, throws him out on his ass and gives the employee a promotion.
  • This agent for a bank's travel agency keeps insisting there is a $25 fee for cancelling a flight in favor of a cheaper one, even though the submitter has an email saying that cancellation is free, and the travel agency's website itself also says cancellation is free. When the submitter demands to speak to speak to a manager, the agent instead insults her and hangs up. Luckily, a second agent is able to get the manager, who gives the submitter a full refund, and then disciplines the first agent for his behavior.
  • Here we have a case of the OP being a Jerkass, and seemingly proud of it — taking out their frustration over a job they don't like by endlessly hassling an innocent Samsung training rep and mocking him for not understanding Korean, despite working for a Korean company. (Samsung is, of course, a global corporation, and doesn't require all its employees to speak the language of its head office.) The commenters unanimously lay into the poster over it, with some even questioning whether their subsequent departure from the company was by choice.
  • This salesman at an auto dealership repeatedly ignores the submitter when they are trying to get his attention about a brand new pickup. When he finally gets up, he snidely dismisses the 29-year-old submitter as a teenager and insists that they cannot take the truck for a test drive without going through the financing first. The unamused submitter turns around, buys a higher-end truck from a competitor in the next town over, and returns to the local dealer to report the rude salesman. To add insult to injury, the truck at the first dealership the submitter was originally looking at breaks down a few days later.
  • This door attendant absolutely refuses to let other employees inside the building without waiting in line to enter. The submitter ends up late for her shift due to the long line, and when her boss calls, she tells him what happened, and he gives her permission to bypass the line. The attendant still refuses to let her pass, insisting that she needs his permission (not her boss') to enter, while the boss is behind him. This gets him immediately written up and sent home, and then fired the next day when he pulls the same stunt again on the district manager.
  • The coworker in this story believes that all of the patients at the doctor's office they work at are too 'demented' to remember their birthdays, let alone doctor's appointments, so she just schedules them without consulting the patients first, and if the patient misses their appointment, she considers that a 'win' because then they get charged a late fee. The unamused doctor promptly fires the coworker upon discovering her scheme.
  • In this story, the submitter, a new hire at a restaurant, comes to the front of the restaurant to find all the new waitresses whom they have just started working alongside mocking a deaf and blind woman who is wandering around in confusion outside. Fortunately, once alerted to what's going on, the submitter, their sister, and several regular customers rush to the woman's help (it turned out the woman was waiting for the waitress who had been training the submitter and the other new hires, but didn't know said waitress was out to have her baby, hence her confusion). The incident pisses off the submitter so much that they cannot bring themselves to keep working there.
  • The lady who runs this bakery cannot be bothered to train her new employees, so she just tells them to 'figure it out' and explodes when the results inevitably aren't exactly what she pictured in her head. Laser-Guided Karma strikes: a couple of months after the submitter's time there the owner's non-business practices force her to file for bankruptcy, her husband files for divorce, and her soon-to-be ex-father-in-law slams the door in her face when she asks for money to help with the divorce.
  • This A/C repairman, on being told that the submitter's cat is old and arthritic, remarks that his father had a remedy for that sort of thing, then makes a "shooting" gesture at the cat. The submitter promptly shows him the door.
  • This jewelry store owner and his wife take advantage of a customer's poor understanding of English to cut a necklace when they didn't ask for it so they can pressure the customer into buying it. When the customer refuses, they bodily throw her out of the store. The submitter – another customer – consoled the customer, but to her regret, she didn't call the police on the owner and his wife.
  • This pig of an apartment maintenance guy calls one tenant a "fata**" (even though she's not fat), then tells her that the only way he'll repair her light fixture is if she gets rid of her cat because he's mildly allergic. Then when the tenant tells him that if he won't cooperate, she'll fix it herself, he says “Women can’t do electrician stuff!”, then when asked to get out of her way so she can move a couch, he takes a swing at her and promptly gets his ass handed to him on a platter. He would later be fired and arrested after feeling up another female tenant.
  • This new hire, knowing that the submitter is colorblind and has trouble differentiating certain colors from each other, pranks the submitter by changing the color settings on their computer while they're away from it to colors that the submitter will have trouble making out. He then laughs as the submitter cries and goes into a panic attack because they can't read anything on the screen to be able to fix it and thus cannot do their job. The submitter does not know what happened next as their boss sends them home so the submitter will have time to calm back down, but when the submitter gets back to their workplace later, the new hire is pointedly nowhere to be found.
  • This new hire blows off work and makes a huge mess in the process. Normally, this could just be chalked up to laziness, but…
    New Guy: “If I want to take a lunch I will, and if I want to leave early I will do that, too.”
    Submitter: “You lost people money and you screwed me out of a lunch and early finish. I had people shouting at me for your mistake.”
    New Guy: “Sheesh, I don’t care ‘bout that.”
  • Speaking of laziness, this stadium employee blows off concerns about a group of unruly kids and does nothing, saying that there are no empty seats he can move the submitter to (the stadium is only half full). Then he obnoxiously says that "you didn't say please" and tells the submitter the kids are "not my f*** problem," and refuses to even get a manager. Thankfully, the submitter got a full refund, and was informed that the employee was fired after multiple complaints about him.
  • This manager overworks one of his workers, then when he sees a dollar bill that said worker had stuck in a Vengeful Vending Machine, he decides "Hey, free money!" then says "Finders Keepers!" and laughs when the submitter objects.

Not Always Related:

  • This family, bar the submitter, expect the submitter's sick mother to pick up a Christmas tree. Oh, and it's snowing, so it isn't safe for a healthy person, never mind a sick person, to be driving.
    Submitter: I told everyone. Mom is sick and it's horrible outside. We aren't far from the house. Let's turn back.
    Grandmother: No one cares what you said.
    Submitter: So, no one cares that I am concerned about the wellbeing and safety of the family?
  • A mother baffled by her kid's love for retro-gaming and why they still keep their old consoles and games around when there are new consoles and games to get eventually crosses the line completely by attempting to throw away the, in her words, "old garbage" (while the submitter was able to save their NES and NES games, it was too late to save their Sega Master System and games by the time they found out those were missing, too) and acts dismissive at best, completely belligerent at worst when the furious submitter calls her out on it. Fortunately, she mellows out over the years and comes to regret treating her kid and their belongings so harshly, later even getting the submitter a new Master System to replace the one she callously threw away as an apology for her behavior.
  • The submitter and her boyfriend invited the boyfriend's parents to an Indian restaurant to try the food as they like the food. Unfortunately, the parents, who are from a rural area and only eat western food, don't like the food with the boyfriend's mother complaining loudly that all the Indian food is wrong or disgusting, even accusing the restaurant of serving them chicken butt when it's actually chicken thighs.
  • This father, named the new "king" of the Jerk tag. Yelling at a senile old woman and accusing her of being a scammer (and roping his child into doing the same) would be bad enough, but the details make it worse: the father learns from his wife that the woman (who is Chinese) is of an age to have lived through World War II, so he yells at her in Japanese (which, as the poster and several commenters note, may have triggered PTSD in the old woman if she survived Japanese Occupation, including some "gems" like the Nanjing Massacre)
  • This step-aunt, rather than take the submitter to MGM Studios to ride the Tower of Terror as requested, instead takes them to Epcot so she can get drunk. She won't even let the submitter buy any food or drink, because that would mean they'd need to use the bathroom, and take up valuable drinking time. When the submitter's parents find out they're furious, the stepfather even more so when the aunt admits that she never planned on taking the submitter to MGM, and that she thought he would take her side because of their blood relation.
  • This dad knows his new wife was previously in an abusive relationship wherein her ex-husband would yell at and bully her over every little thing. So what does he do? He deliberately scares the daylights out of her while she's in the front seat of a car ride at an amusement park by loudly berating her for her "driving", causing her to have an anxiety attack while he thinks it's the funniest thing in the world. The submitter (his biological child) glares at him in disapproval, but sadly it doesn't do any good.
  • This submitter's parents seem to be this and proud of it, with the only thing keeping them from (seemingly deliberately) wreaking havoc in the UK town they are vacationing at being not being fluent English speakers (and the embarrassed submitter refusing to let them manipulate her into doing it for them). The father even openly admits to believing that it's acceptable to bully and take advantage of other people over their mistakes to make them owe the family favours after a waitress accidentally gives him the wrong beer at a restaurant.
  • This fickle sibling adopts a white cat, then decides they want a black cat instead. However, the submitter adopts the cat instead. The sibling then claims that the cat was overly aggressive and tries to get the submitter to get rid of it, lying about previous attacks and saying that the cat should be put down. What the sibling was trying to get out of the affair is never made clear.
  • This aunt is known to be rude and entitled, but after a fire (and some guilt-tripping from their mother), the submitter (reluctantly) lets her and her three dogs stay in their house. First, the aunt smashes the submitter's TV for being too loud when the submitter had turned it down as low as it could go while still being audible. But the real dealbreaker was when the submitter discovered that their aunt was trying to sell their dog from under their nose because she figured four dogs was too many, and the submitter's dog – the biggest – had to go, seemingly forgetting that the aunt and her dogs were the submitter's guests. She even has the nerve to call the submitter "selfish" for not getting rid of the dog themselves. The submitter promptly shows her the door instead.
  • Speaking of animals, this brother-in-law, punches a puppy in the face when the puppy – not knowing any better – jumped up at him. He claims this is how you're supposed to get animals under control, and it's soon shown this is how he tries to get people under control too, as the submitter points out (to the brother-in-law's fiancée's chagrin) that he has a history of domestic abuse. After he gets thrown out, he tells the submitter's husband that she owes him an apology and to “Control that b*** or someone else will.” Hopefully the guy's engagement didn't last, as the submitter implied that if he had kids, he would have beaten them too!
  • This aunt's husband has a sick sense of humour. He openly threatens to "prank" the submitter's father by getting him drunk the night before his wedding, then buying him a one-way ticket to Hawaii, stranding him there with no money to come home to his wedding and stranding the submitter's mother at the altar. Thankfully, the submitter's aunt stops him from putting this plan into action.

Not Always Learning

  • Many stories tagged with "bully", naturally, fall under this.
  • This teacher calls for a parent-teacher conference just to insult a completely different former student.
  • This teacher gives a student detention for being a few seconds late, which would be bad enough by itself — but it's made worse by the fact that the student's little brother had died the night before and the student had been up all night. Fortunately another teacher and a counselor intervened, and when that failed the principal intervened personally.
    • While it's no excuse for the teacher's actions, perhaps the teacher had to deal with a few students like this in the past, and thought this student was pulling a similar stunt.
  • This student outlines their plan for if they ran the world — round up all the "retards and gays" in special camps where they would be shot down daily. Add in Holocaust denial and self-serving hypocrisy (teen mothers "didn't do anything wrong" because his/her sister is one, but the groups s/he hates were "cursed by God" so it's okay) for the perfect trifecta of asshole.
  • This teacher, after complimenting a student on their The Once and Future King project (calligraphy on a parchment scroll, having learned calligraphy just for this), gives them a B- because the lines weren't completely straight. For comparison, another student who just did the project on notebook paper and mistook a pair of kings for each other got a higher grade — when this is pointed out, the teacher tells the student "if you're going to do something, do it right!"
  • This teacher is apparently giving her students' Father's Day artwork to the wrong people — even going so far as to sign the wrong names onto them — just for the sake of being an asshole.
  • These girls do next to no work for a presentation, forcing the submitter to do it all — and then they try to tell the teacher they were the hard-workers and the submitter was the lazy one.
  • This teacher deliberately fails a first-grade student, even though all their answers were correct. Turns out it's because the student is one of the only Caucasian people in a class made up predominately of Hispanics, as evidenced by the teacher saying to her face that "I don't care how blond or blue-eyed you are, you will fail my class."
  • This algebra teacher mocks and treats the submitter like she's stupid due to the latter being a quiet person and not very good in math. When the submitter asks the teacher for help, he refuses and says she should figure it out for herself. When the student gets hospitalized for a week, causing her to miss her midterms, the teacher refuses to let her take her exam and gives her a zero, claiming the submitter faked being sick so she could had time to study in spite of the fact the whole school was informed and proof was given. The submitter's father complains to the principal about what the teacher did, which causes the principal to order the teacher to allow the submitter to take her midterm exam in a quiet classroom. Instead, the teacher tries to fail the submitter again by not allowing her to take her exam in a quiet classroom, but in a noisy classroom to distract her so that she will fail the exam and coldly tells her she deserves it for "skipping" the midterms. Thankfully, the principal has had enough with the jerkass teacher and makes sure the midterm he sabotaged would not be included in the submitter's final score. The submitter got a new teacher who was more willing to help with her math problems, and the jerkass teacher was written up and later fired because other students and parents reported he did the same thing to them.
  • This teacher acts like a jerk to a young boy because she doesn't believe he doesn't have a computer to type in his essays and accuses him of being a liar. And when his mother tells the teacher it's actually true, the teacher calls her a bad parent and demands that she buy a computer, not caring that the mother is poor and computers are too expensive (as this took place during the 1990s).
  • This substitute teacher with a reputation for being bossy and insufferable refuses to believe that a student (one of the smartest students in class) finished his test in fifteen minutes (saying this without even looking at his paper to check) and forces the student to go back to his desk to "finish". When the student begins writing in his journal to pass the rest of the hour-and-a-half away, the substitute storms over, snatches the journal away, slaps the student when he protests and reaches to take the journal back, and then smugly begins destroying the journal right in front of him. The student punches the substitute out in retaliation, and the teacher brings the administrator into the classroom in an attempt to get the student expelled. However, the other students speak up in the first student's defense and explain that the substitute instigated the incident, and one student reveals that they recorded the incident on their phone (to the substitute's horror). The substitute teacher was subsequently fired and got her teaching license revoked.
  • This science teacher has been treating the OP poorly all year, ignoring her at best and implying she's an idiot at worst. It turns out that because she was homeschooled, he assumes her parents must have been a couple of fundies who raised her to believe in creationism. When informed they were an atheist and a pagan, and only homeschooled her because they traveled a lot, the teacher simply refuses to believe it, and throws the OP out of the classroom, along with a friend who spoke up for her. He does get put right after a meeting with the principal and her parents and leaves her alone, but there's no mention of an apology.
  • This professor apparently prides himself on the fact that, supposedly, nobody ever gets more than 80% in his testsnote , due to his incredibly petty grading policy which requires each answer to be worded exactly as his answer list specifies. So when one of the students scores 98% despite this, the professor immediately decides they must have cheated and gives them a 0. This ends up getting the professor in trouble with the department's dean, who forces the professor to be more lenient (or possibly actually takes over grading the class); at the end of the semester the professor takes an "indefinite sabbatical" which was evidently permanent, as he hasn't been back in five years.
  • This teacher constantly assigns the class large amounts of homework on stuff they haven't even learned yet, as well as huge monthly projects and plays they are required to perform in, and doesn't care that the OP has special needs and is only supposed to do a certain amount per night. It all comes to a head on the last day of the summer term, when she issues four assignments — of course on material they haven't learned and, worse, without textbooks to help them — and informs the class that they have to hand it in personally on the first day of the new grade or they will fail — which will be impossible for half the class, as the school is located on a USAF base in England, and their parents will have been transferred out of the country by then. She still doesn't care. Thankfully, the OP's mom and ten other parents all report the teacher to the principal; the assignments are cancelled, the teacher is fired, and the principal personally apologises to the OP for what the teacher put them through.
  • In this story, the poster, a student, has been off for two weeks with adult chicken pox, and all their professors understand the situation and are willing to help them catch up — except for their linguistics professor, whose response to the situation is a condescending "Oh, what a pity." He insists that they take the test that is set for that day the following day, but then lies about what they need to study for it; after all, the student would have learned the necessary material if they had attended class. They couldn't because they were off sick? Oh, what a pity. The student, unsurprisingly, fails the test, and, knowing they will probably fail the class as a result, drops it. Oh, what a pity. Fortunately, they do eventually retake it with a more conscientious professor, though the jerkass professor receives no consequences for his uncaring attitude or unwillingness to do his job properly.
  • This teacher believes that "pretty little blonde girls" shouldn't wear glasses and stole a very nearsighted child's glasses from her face causing her to cry. During a meeting with the principal and the kid's father, the vice principal defends the teacher. No wonder OP and her siblings baked a cake to celebrate when the teacher was fired later!
  • This mother is insistent that both of her children are treated equally. On its own, not so bad, except she's using this to try and get her third-grade daughter onto a zoo field trip with her fifth-grade brother, which the school refuses to allow (unless the mother herself comes along as a chaperone, which she rejects vehemently). Two years pass, and the daughter is old enough... but it's also 2020, and the zoo is closed because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Undeterred, the mother decides it's the school's fault the trip isn't going ahead and calls up the submitter to protest again. Since she called the submitter's home phone, after hours, and they're a week away from retirement anyway, they give her a "Reason You Suck" Speech and slam the phone down.
  • This teacher unfairly singles out the submitter, and on one occasion tries to loudly call them to her desk, not caring that the position of another student and his chair is preventing the submitter from getting up. When the submitter points this out, the teacher condescendingly tells the other student to move, calling the submitter fat along the way. Later, after the submitter's father passes away, the teacher outright tells her “Don’t expect me to feel sorry for you just because your dad died!”

Not Always Friendly

  • This girl suggests that her boyfriend should let his friend kill herself over her parents' divorce, because she personally does not get why it's such a big deal and as such is assuming said friend is an attention whore. Her boyfriend is not at all amused, and dumps her on the spot.
  • This whole family thinks it's "rude" that the only thing their friend could afford to give them for Christmas was a huge basket of sweets, handmade and from scratch. The fact that they have never once given that friend a gift in return, though, even after telling him of the many, many expensive things they got themselves? Nah, that's okay. As a bonus, they demand the sweets back when the submitter takes them away after being told that it's "rude" for him to be giving them sweets in the first place.
  • This woman sees the poster getting in their car and quickly goes out of her way to block him in by putting her shopping cart behind his car (maybe so she could pull out first, maybe just for the hell of it). The submitter's response was to get out, push the cart behind her car, and flip it over. As he drove off, he looked back and saw she wasn't strong enough to move it by herself.
  • The submitter here is rooming with three very immature and obnoxious men. One night, they continually keep him up, mock him when he complains, and as a "joke" remove the door to his room because the submitter wouldn't close a cabinet that was repeatedly noted to have faulty hinges and as such unable to close. Needless to say, the housemates' reasoning of "we thought you'd find it funny" and "it annoyed us" does not calm down the submitter at all.
  • This friend's husband thinks the submitter's baby's name, Cassandra, is a stupid, made-up name, and ironically enough refuses to believe it's a name that's been around for thousands of years. And then he has to gall to claim he knows the Trojan Wars, yet doesn't know who Prince Paris of Troy is, assuming they're talking about the French city of the same name.
  • This old woman acts like a stuck-up jerk to the submitter for absolutely no reason, even though the submitter did nothing at all but politely offer to let her take the last seat on the tram despite their hip problems. The woman even continues to yell at the submitter once they themselves are able to take a seat and calls them a "rude little b***" as she leaves the vehicle.
  • This story is like a weird inversion of the last one, with a tram passenger getting mad at the submitter for standing up, believing they've mistaken her for pregnant and are trying to offer her their seat, which she takes as an insult. She refuses to listen when the submitter explains they were getting up because they're about to get off, then attempts to grab them, losing her balance in the process. She then stands in front of the seat, blocking other people from sitting in it, and glares at the submitter until they get off.
  • This woman offers to help the submitter look after their wife (who has just had a major surgery and an infection and currently has trouble moving around) while they're away at work. However, it soon becomes obvious that the woman has no actual intention of helping and just wants an excuse to mooch off someone else for a while, doing nothing but sitting around watching TV, "forgetting" to give the submitter's wife her medication and antibiotics, thereby causing the wife to be miserable until her spouse comes home, and pestering the submitter into caring for her needs instead of those of their ill, bedridden wife. Then when the submitter's wife ends up having to have another surgery a few years later, the woman has the gall to invite herself over to "help" again. Unsurprisingly, the submitter bluntly turns her down.
  • This Game Master turns a normal tabletop game all about himself when he rejects all the other players' characters and forces them to change it to make them look pathetic, like forcing a male player to turn his famous female model character into a homeless male nerd, since the G.M. didn't want them to play characters opposite of their gender; yet the G.M. makes a Mary Sue character for himself. The G.M. is also bigoted against LGBT people, since he constantly refers the submitter as "her" despite the submitter and the other players repeatedly pointing out that the submitter is an intersex male with feminine looks and voice, and the reason he forced the submitter to change his character to woman since "she's not a guy". The final straw comes when the G.M. cheats and tries to force the submitter's character to have sex with the G.M.'s character, despite the submitter's objections (both because it's out of character for his character to have sex with a stranger and also because the submitter's wife is playing with them as well, making the whole thing inappropriate). The submitter and his wife leave the game after that, with the rest following suit after they discover the G.M. was sending inappropriate pictures to the only lesbian in the group. Finally, the submitter blocks the G.M.'s number after the latter sends inappropriate texts to him, still not understanding that he's not a woman and is married.
  • This story has an entire family of Jerkasses, up to and unfortunately including the five children, the oldest of which is only eight. Parents too concerned with having money to buy drugs to ensure the house is habitable and letting trash pile up in the front yard until it's over six feet tall, and children who outright attack an ice cream vendor while swearing like sailors when the vendor won't give them free popsicles (because their parents spent all the money on drugs). When the police are called over this incident, meth is found in the home, and the father is subdued and arrested when he attacks the attending cops. No word on what happened to the family after that other than the house needing months before it was habitable again.
  • This woman intentionally honks her horn at the submitter while they're in the middle of loading their groceries to take their spot, even though there are plenty of other (better) parking spots around the store she could park in. She ends up being all bark and no bite, however, as she flees the moment she mistakenly thinks the submitter is acting aggressive right back at her.
  • This neighborhood racist scrawls the N-word onto the snow-covered windscreen of a black man who recently moved in, and is stated to have successfully forced another black family out of the area thanks to some apathetic cops. Fortunately (and amusingly) he already has Laser-Guided Karma coming for him in the form of some of the neighborhood's kids, who are going out of their way not only to clean the aforementioned windscreen before the man can wake up and see it but also to make the racist's life hell.
  • This woman tries to steal the submitter's Nintendo Switch for her son while on a flight, and makes a ruckus when the submitter attempts to get it back. It then gets worse in stages - first, it's revealed that she somehow got a pair of scissors onto the plane, which gets her detained for carrying a weapon. Then, after landing and her removal, it emerges that the woman was in fact in the process of kidnapping her own child, who she only had joint custody of and was not allowed to take on vacation.
  • Performer #1 in this story is a transphobe who repeatedly – and pointedly – refers to the submitter by his deadname. But what really qualifies him as this is that when the costume designer – who has a severe stammer due to speech aphasia (and possibly anxiety) – tries to correct him, he not only shoots her down, but mocks her stammer before laughing at her and telling her to "spit it out, woman." Fortunately, the production director sees this and kicks him off the show.
  • This driver nearly runs down a little kid, and when he notices that the kid is wearing a hat for a certain sports team jokes that as a fan of another, local team, he should have run him down, before motoring off.
