Status: Ongoing

The Dark Queen is a K fan work created by Archdemon Slayer, found on Fanfiction, Archive Of Our Own, Wattpad, and Quotev. It contains references to Nasuverse terms and it sometimes refers to Fate/stay night, a Kinoko Nasu visual novel.

This follows Akiko Hashimoto, a woman originally from Fuyuki who joins HOMRA in order to be somewhere she feels that she belongs to and that it'll hopefully break the fact she doesn't feel confident enough to just chat with someone. While she may appear harmless at first glance, she is in fact a second-rate mage who's not afraid to get violent when needed.

Her HOMRA insignia is located on the back of her left upper arm, just above her elbow.

Other fics with Akiko Hashimoto:

Tropes that apply

  • Abusive Dad: After Mikoto's mother died, his father took to drinking and beating his son several times a week.
  • Action Girl: Akiko. When in HOMRA, she gets involved in the fighting, taking the front lines.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Tatara refers to Mikoto as 'King'.
  • Anti-Magic: Akiko's partially-awakened Origin grants her C-rank Magic Resistancenote , one of the reasons the Mage's Association took an interest in her.
  • Animal Motifs:
    • Tatara was the first to call Mikoto a lion. This got picked up by Izumo.
    • Izumo said Akiko is a lioness, but as a joke. When she was threatening someone, the comparison was changed to wolf.
  • The Bartender: Izumo is the owner of the bar that serves as the base for HOMRA.
  • Big Eater:
    • Rikio is able to put down a lot of food. There have been comments about how much he eats and he even emptied a fridge of Homra once.
    • Do not put sweets in front of Akiko and expect them to still be there. Izumo learns this after Akiko shovels down a ton of chocolate in an hour.
  • Bullet Dodges You: Bullets are unable to hit Mikoto due to his aura. They either instantly melt if they get too close or he can launch them right back at the shooter.
  • The Cameo: Lancer from Fate/stay night shows up in Akiko's flashback.
  • Cool Shades: Izumo wears a tinted pair of shades, including in the bar.
  • Conveniently an Orphan:
    • Not only did Akiko's parents die in the fire in Fuyuki, but she has no living relatives.
    • Mikoto's mother was shot dead and his father committed suicide.
  • Dashingly Dapper Derby: Masaomi commonly wears a derby hat.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Izumo snarks mostly at Mikoto and sometimes at Akiko.
  • Deflector Shield: Mikoto is able to create a shield of his aura to protect his Clansmen from attacks, whether they be from the enemy or even himself.
  • Elemental Hair Colors: Mikoto has red hair and wields fire.
  • Elemental Powers: Akiko uses magecraft of different elements such as fire, lightning, and earth.
  • Everyone Can See It: Everyone in HOMRA, including members who just joined, peg Akiko and Mikoto as a dating couple or they at least have feelings for each other. This invites a lot of annoyed, and sometimes hostile, reactions from the two.
  • Faction Motto: Tatara says that because HOMRA's getting more well-known they should come up with a motto. He suggests "No Blood. No Bone. No Ash." It is written on one of the bar's signs, which is where the idea came from. It's decided that would be HOMRA's motto. It's also suggested it will be their Battle Cry in order to fire up their fighters. Akiko shouts it for the first time when they launch a surprise attack on a group of drug dealers.
  • Familiar: Akiko uses a pigeon for tracking and being a member of HOMRA allows her to instantly create fire wolves for attacking.
  • Fantastically Indifferent: Mikoto displays no reaction to seeing Akiko perform inhuman feats.
  • Fiery Redhead: Mikoto is a redhead that you don't want to piss off. He says he'll turn to ash those who annoy him too much.
  • First-Name Basis: Mikoto insists on being called by his given name instead of Suoh. Everyone else in HOMRA refers to each other by their surnames.
  • Flower Motifs: Akiko is compared to a white rose bearing its thorns.
  • Forgotten Birthday: Inverted. While discussing Mikoto's upcoming 19th birthday, Tatara reveals that Mikoto doesn't really care about his birthday and has even forgotten it before.
  • Friendless Background: Akiko is socially awkward only with trying to work up the courage to have a simple chat with someone. Her inability to do so results in her being alone throughout school.
  • From Dress to Dressing: Mikoto tears away some of his shirt to bandage Akiko's wound. This leads Izumo to later question the guy if he has feelings for her.
  • Gamer Chick: While this trait has yet to be show in the story, a flashback for Akiko states that she enjoys video games.
  • Geas: Akiko has a geas put on her by the Mage's Association that forces her to carry out any job they send her. If she doesn't, the geas kills her.
  • Good Cop/Bad Cop: This routine is played when HOMRA is interrogating someone. Tatara is usually the Good Cop, but Izumo fills this role if Tatara isn't currently with them. Akiko plays Bad Cop, taking her aggression up several notches. She threatens one person being interrogated that she'll rip out his heart if he doesn't talk. She's apparently ripped out someone's heart before.
  • Gratuitous German: Incantations for magecraft are said in German.
  • Grin of Audacity: Akiko sports one as she's kicking the three thugs' asses.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Akiko was never able to make friends, making it something she wants more than anything.
  • I Was Beaten by a Girl: Akiko beats Yō while sparring in martial arts. Masaomi makes sure to tease Yō about this.
  • Intimate Marks: Rikio revealed that his HOMRA mark is on his buttcheek, which is why he can't display it.
  • Kung-Fu Wizard:
    • A flashback says that Akiko has high-quality magic circuits. Along with this, she can infuse mana into her strikes to strengthen them.
    • Mikoto uses no weapons, only hand-to-hand combat. He uses his red aura to augment his strikes.
  • Mystical White Hair: Akikio, the Red Clan's only trained mage, has silver-white hair.
  • Nice Guy: Tatara doesn't fight, doesn't get mad at people, and tries to resolve conflicts without violence.
  • Non-Action Guy: Tatara is the only member of HOMRA who doesn't fight. He mainly uses his powers for fine work, such as busting the lock to a room where captives are being held.
  • Official Couple: Akiko and Mikoto are the only pairing listed in this fanwork. The title even gives away the fact the two will get married.
  • Offhand Backhand: Someone tries to sneak up behind Mikoto and stab him while he and the rest of HOMRA are fighting. Mikoto's response? Backfist the person in the face, sending him into the wall.
  • One of the Boys: Akiko is the only female member of the Red Clan so far and seems to be perfectly fine with hanging around a bunch of dudes.
  • Our Mages Are Different: While magic circuits, needed to perform magecraft AKA thaumaturgy, are normally hereditary and becomes stronger with each generation, kings, clansmen, and Strains have acquired them without the circuits being passed down through their family.
  • Past Experience Nightmare: Akiko has a nightmare about the result of the Fourth Holy Grail War in 1994 that she experienced herself. But this time, Shizume is burned instead of New City in Fuyuki.
  • Piggyback Cute: Mikoto has Akiko ride piggyback on him after she hurts her ankle.
  • Playing with Fire: Anyone who's accepted into HOMRA gains access to attacks utilizing fire.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: Kings are giant threats due to the immense power they have. This induced an Oh, Crap! reaction first from the mages who recognized Mikoto, and then from the others when they were told his magecraft can reach Age of the Gods strength.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Akiko is the red, easy to get worked up, while Mikoto is the blue, tends not to display emotions. In high school, he qualified to be the red since he had a short fuse and tended to beat people, including Tatara and Izumo, up.
  • Schmuck Bait: Akiko smiles sweetly at the men pointing a gun at her. This should've been a warning to them to back off. When they don't, she kicks their asses.
  • Shipper on Deck: Izumo pegs Akiko and Mikoto as a couple due to the fact Akiko's attitude sometimes resembles Mikoto's, especially from his days in high school. This gets Lampshaded by Akiko.
    Akiko: Are you shipping us?!
  • Shout-Out: Akiko says "Who's there?!" when she's at the park and notices Mikoto. This was said by Lancer from Fate/stay night when he sensed Shirou. Lancer was made Akiko's Servant in fanfics such as Fate x stay night: Future Sight, acting as a reference to this fact.
  • Signature Scent: Mages are typically able to be identified due to having the smell of blood on them.
  • Sleep Cute: Akiko is sitting next to Mikoto. The heat from the sun causes her to go to sleep...right on Mikoto's shoulder. Izumo sees this and uses it as teasing ammunition.
  • Smoking Is Cool:
    • Izumo, a smoker, has shown to be a badass in battle. He's able to use his cigarette or lighter to create fireballs.
    • A member of the Red Clan, Yō Chitose, has been a smoker since he was 16.
  • The Stoic: Mikoto typically displays little or no emotion. When he gets teased, however, he'll give the offender a Death Glare.
  • Super-Empowering: Mikoto grants anyone who passes the test to join HOMRA a piece of his power.
  • Super-Toughness: Akiko can use mana to increase her body's durability, to the point where bullets can't injure her. Apparently, at least a rocket launcher must be used to make a bruise on her.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: Mikoto, the Red King, has amber-gold eyes. These also aid in him looking like a lion and, combined with his red hair and the fact he uses fire, it gives him an Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance.
  • Sword of Damocles: A literal giant sword hangs in the air above each king when they activate their Sanctum. It falls if the king it belongs to goes over their limit, resulting in the death of that king. It's even called "Sword of Damocles".
  • Tap on the Head: Akiko knocks out the three men who attack her with a blow to each of their heads. This was to induce short-term memory loss in them.
  • The Tease: Izumo keeps trying to get Akiko and Mikoto to hook up, sometimes suggesting to them to engage in intimate activities, such as having sex.
  • True Companions: The members of HOMRA take their bonds with each other very seriously. They treat those in the Clan like family. If you dare hurt a member, the others will hunt you down and make you pay.
  • Tsundere:
    • Akiko can get hostile to the others in an effort to hide the fact she has feelings for Mikoto when she gets teased about it, often telling them to shut up and even punching Masaomi out cold for the aforementioned reason. She calls Mikoto an idiot while trying to conceal the fact she's blushing while he's carrying her on his back. Also during this time, Mikoto asks if he makes her feel safe since she's holding his shoulders tightly and she, blushing really hard now, tries to change the subject without answering the question. Months later, when she asks Mikoto if he wants to stay in the room that she's doing martial arts training in, she immediately tells him to forget what she just said and she becomes angry at herself, venting on a standing target. Also, she would apparently scold the others if they return all scratched up. But she would be treating the injuries at the same time.
    • Mikoto shows shades of this, especially when Izumo teases him about the feelings for Akiko that he's trying to hide, typically with the excuse that Mikoto gives that he takes care of her only because she's his clansman. Normally, Mikoto keeps his emotions in check, with the exception of when he was a high school student. He had a short fuse then. But when Izumo teases him about Akiko, he sometimes just snaps at the guy. As a bonus, Izumo outright calls him a tsundere, but behind the king's back.
  • Wouldn't Hit a Girl: Mikoto says that he's not a fan of beating up women. But he also says he will if they attempt to fight him. This gets Subverted when Mikoto punches Akiko. It was because he was having a flashback of his mother's death and ended up punching her to prevent her from killing a mother.
