Go To

The other ranged class of Chain Chronicle, the Wizards represent the magic-users of the setting. The class features the largest variance of specials of any class, and while there many fit the Nuker role in a party (through area-of-effect spells), there are others that instead focus on party-wide buffs or other esoteric effects.

A subset of the Wizards are the Rune Fencers. They are the Magic Knight of the setting, and while they still retain their ranged attacks, they are also equally comfortable in melee, and don't suffer the Attack loss regular wizards experience in close combat.

Go here to go back to the main character index of Chain Chronicle.

Tropes common to Wizards:

  • Area of Effect: A great many Wizard specials are like this, and unlike Archers, they don't have a random selection of targets.
  • Glass Cannon: Much more than Archers. Many wizards can absolutely devastate an opposing team with their Area-of-Effect attacks (see Aludra and Cheery as prime examples of this)... But the moment they get engaged in melee they're sitting ducks due to their low HP and all-around sucky defense.
  • Magic Wand: Their weapons are wands. Runefencers however use the same weapons that Soldiers or Knights use.
  • Squishy Wizard: Any non-Runefencer is this. Not helped by their already low-HP pool.

    One Star Arcana Wizards

Cardea

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chainchronicle_cardea_icon3.png
The Hole-Digging Mage.
A wizard with an obsession with digging holes.
  • Informed Attribute: The in-game description says that Cardea is an expert in Earth Magic, but we don't actually see her use Earth Magic during her Arcana quest, or later on in the Academy Festival side-story.
  • The Medic: Unusual for a wizard, her special heals the party instead of dealing damage to enemies.
  • Trap Master: Specifically pitfalls. Her Arcana quest deals with a whole forested area filled by traps she did when she was still in training, as the Hero and his friends soon discover to their horror.

Charno

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chainchronicle_charno_icon.png
The Fraidy-Cat Student

A Sage Tower student who had to stop her studies because she ran out of money to pay for her tuition, she joined the Volunteer Army for the salary it gives. Unfortunately she's not really prepared for what enlisting entails, meaning putting herself in harms way, which means she spends most of her time running scared during battles.

  • Barrier Maiden: Her special creates a barrier that negate's one attack's worth of damage.
  • Cowardly Lion: Charno's first instinct will always always be to run away screaming, but when her friends are in trouble, she'll step up to help, if only to get out of that battle.
  • Only in It for the Money: If not for the hazard pay, Charno would probably be happier doing something less dangerous.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Prone to this.
  • Training from Hell: In a truly out there moment, the Hero decides that hard training is the answer to Charno's battlefield anxiety. What kind of training you might ask? 100 push-ups, 1000 swordswings, and when a monster attack interrupts the training session, decides to handcuff her to stop her from running away.

Gebeltz

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chainchronicle_gebeltz_icon.png
The Scary-Looking Magic Caster

A member of the Magic Guild, Gebelz is a gentle man who often intimidates people because of his scary-looking face.

  • Berserk Button: Damage his beloved fruit trees, and there'll be hell to pay, as a few monsters found out.
Gebeltz: (upon seeing his orchard ransacked): FILTHY SCUM! I'LL CRUSH YOU WITH MY BARE HANDS!
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: See the entry above.
  • Face of a Thug: Has a downright intimidating face, which becomes a bit of a Running Gag during the Academy Festival where he scares the audience in Lizerotte's magical girl play more than the summoned monsters ever did.
    • Febrya and Charno freak out when they end up running into him, thinking he's one of the haunted house's attractions.
  • Informed Attribute: His profile says that he's more of a thinker than a front-line spellcaster, but in all the quests he's been involved in, Gebeltz has always rushing headlong into fights like a berserker.
  • Status Buff: Gebeltz's special reduces the damage taken of one random member of the party for the duration of the battle.

Kristian

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chainchronicle_kristian_icon.png
The Pranking Prodigy

A young yet talented student of the Sage Tower Academy, who has a love of pranks.

  • Friendless Background: Implied. Oddly enough, unlike the usual case, Kristian's pranking came about because he made friends in the Volunteer Army.
  • Forced Transformation: One of Kristian's preferred methods for pranking is transformation magic. See how she turns Pirika in a pig during his Arcana quest.
  • Status Effects: His Arcana quest has him essentially running around pranking people via Debuffs: hitting Pirika with polymorph, the Hero with Silence, and the monsters with a case of bad diarrhea.

Mina

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chainchronicle_mina_icon.png
The Shy Sorceress.

A shy student of the Sage Tower Academy, who nevertheless enlists with the Volunteer Army because she wants to help other people.

  • Hidden Depths: Though not reflected in any of her in-game abilities, Mina has some knowledge about herbal remedies. This is because her parents run a pharmacy back home, and she herself wants to start her own practice someday.
  • Shrinking Violet: Most of her Arcana quest deals with her building up the confidence to talk to Pirika. Really.

    Two Star Arcana Wizards

Hakim

A musician from the Lake of Sand, and the younger brother of Hassan.

  • Covert Pervert: Hakim has quite a thing for the ladies apparently, much to his older brother's dismay.
  • Hidden Depths: The Death and Rebirth Suite chain story reveals quite a bit about Hakim, through the interactions he has with his brother, Hassan. For example, he can apparently sing even better than Hassan, but because of the latter's wheedling, focuses on his trumpet instead.

    Four Star Arcana Wizards

Abby

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chainchronicle_abbyb.png
The Stylish Beastmaster.

A performer from the Youbee Circus, Abby is the caretaker of the show animals of the circus. She's also Toby's older sister. Oh, and did we mention that she likes Kain?

  • All Love Is Unrequited: She falls hard for Kain when he helps rescue her tiger from monsters. Too bad Kain is Oblivious to Love.
    • She also had a one-sided crush on Trystan too, before she latched onto Kain.
  • The Beastmaster: In-story only. Abby is basically in charge of training and taking care of the circus' show animals, which includes the grown tiger that's shown in her character art.
  • Commonality Connection: She and Filiana bond over having to be older sisters to younger siblings with very strong personalities.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Starts to follow Kain around secretly during her second Arcana quest.
  • Status Effects: In an unusual example, Abby herself does not cause Blind, but she does increased damage to enemies suffering from Blind status, and lowers their movement speed to boot.
  • Status Buff: She gains a bonus to Attack and Defense if there are any Knights or other Wizards in the party.

Airi

A witch doctor practicing in the Nine Territories. She claims that she is reincarnation of the legendary magic king, that she has a magic eye, and that a black dragon is sealed within her right arm. She joins the group, seeking even more magical power.
  • Cuteness Proximity: She gets distracted by a kitten in her first character quest during a tangent about her powers.
  • Large Ham: It comes hand in hand with her delusions.
  • Overly Long Gag: Her abilities' flavor texts are absurdly long, even longer than most five stars.
  • Status Effects: She inflicts poison with her specials.

    Five Star Arcana Wizards

Claudia

Magic Academy student council president Filiana's little sister. From a young age, she respected her older sister and worked hard to be as good as she was. Fiercely protective, she won't forgive those who bruise her sister's pride. She is possibly even more magically powerful than Filiana, but she holds back, not wanting to surpass her beloved sister.

  • Big Sister Worship: She and her sister dote on each other so much to the point that other characters believe it's not just sibling love.
  • Incest Subtext: Her quests both involve her thinking about her sister, and the first one is called "My Dearest..." The two sisters compliment each other after battle way too much as well.
  • Little Sister Instinct: She hides her power to make Filiana seem stronger, but when someone insults her sister she gets very violent.
  • My Sister Is Off-Limits: If the Hero hits on her sister when she's around, she's not going to be happy about it.
  • Overly Long Gag: When the two sisters start complimenting each other, it takes a while for them to stop.
  • Satellite Character: Her character quests demonstrate her love for her older sister as practically her only characteristic.
  • Shared Family Quirks: They both tend to dote on each other a lot.
  • Sibling Team: She works together with her sister almost all of the time.
  • So Proud of You: When she demonstrated her true power in front of her sister, this is what her sister has to say.
  • Willfully Weak: She does this to make her sister seem more powerful than her.
  • Yandere: Implied to be one for her sister.

Inami

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/inami.jpg
A trickster who lives in the forests of Soul Island, doing as she pleases. Bearer of the blessing of the Nine-Tailed Fox, legendary beast of the Nine Territories, she uses the considerable power for pranking. Usually an innocent girl, when angry, she turns icily serious.

Inami is only obtainable in Ring Recruit.

  • Awesome, but Impractical: Her skill damages everyone in her line with decent damage. The catch is, it came with a six seconds casting time (shortened to five seconds after completing her second quest) when everybody else has one or two seconds. In that time, other AoE mages can deal more damage much more faster even if they can't cast their skills in rapid succession. Her abilities also benefits only herself, making her a poor support choice.
    • On the upside however, her skill only cost one Mana despite being a 5-star wizard, which usually costs 2 or 3 mana for their skill. As a result, while she can't spam it in rapid succession, she can cast her skill twice or thrice as much as anybody else, especially if don't have any wizards that can generate more wizard mana.
  • Break the Cutie: She just can't catch a break. From seeing her mother die in the hands of thugs to protect Inami, to villagers she helped fearing her power (thus keeping their distance away from her), she really had it rough.
  • Expy: A living seal for a nine-tailed fox who use her powers to prank other people yet longs for friends? Has parents who died defending her? Has a dark side when her powers went out of control? Has a signature skill that takes time to prepare? Yep, she has similarities to the early Naruto Uzumaki.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: A goal made very difficult if the people she wanted to befriend became scared of her instead. Because of this, she really liked her time on Volunteer Army and eventually befriended Princess Tsuru.
  • Parental Abandonment: Her mother was killed by thugs, and her father presumably died before the event.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Has a dark personality that surfaced when her powers went out of control.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Almost went into one when she met her mother's assailants.
  • Virgin in a White Dress: Her looks really draws out her innocence, complete with a Mystical White Hair.

Hati

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chainchronicle_hatib.png
The Fragment of Truth.

Before Hatifas fully succumbed to her despair and became a demon, she took out the remaining reason and good conscience she had left, and used it to create someone she hoped would be able to stop her when she finally lost control: Hati. With the help of the Volunteer Army, Hati succeeds in bringing Hatifas back to her senses. She's stuck around since then, eager to share her, ahem, wellspring of knowledge to the uneducated masses in the Volunteers.

  • Bratty Half-Pint: Because of her pride, intelligence, and the fact that she has a body of pre-adolescent little girl, Hati comes off as this. Pirika even outright says that she's full of herself at one point.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: While Hati knows a lot thanks to being created from a bit of Hatifas, she doesn't know everything, a fact Pirika uses to quickly put her off-balance.
  • Literal Split Personality: One that was created on purpose by Hatifas.
  • Meaningful Name: "Hati" means heart in Malay and Indonesian.
  • Permanently Missable Content: She was only recruitable as part of the demon raid that involved Hatifas
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: With Pirika, who just loves rubbing in the fact that Hati doesn't actually know everything.
  • Status Buff: Hati's first skill adds bonus damage when she attacks in melee.

Hatifas

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hatifas.jpg
A woman with a blackened heart who was once revered as the great sage of a different kingdom in the continent. She became a demon after the Black Army destroyed the kingdom, an event that eventually swallows her with the need to know the secret to world's end.

The main enemy of the Hatifas demon raid, every player who reached at least the 50th raid will gain her as an ally.

  • The Atoner: In the post-event quest, she tried to make amends to the victims of her raid by indirectly offering them monetary aid. For this purpose, she unearthed a rich ore mine with the help of Patricia.
  • Chained by Fashion: It's subtle, but chains are a part of her attire.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: As with all demons, you gained a free copy of her after the completion of the 50th raid.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: To use her skill effectively, you're required to sit down, wait, and actually aim it, unlike most area attacks (since her skill actually has minimum range while others can be fired at point-blank). If you can do that (while manipulating multiple enemies to occupy one square using your Knights), you're rewarded with a skill that has 11x damage multiplier. And with her ability, you could mix in some other skills from a mage team due to her being able to get more mana, making her skill much more deadlier.
  • Enemy Without: More like an Ally Without since Hati is on your side; she created Hati with the last sliver of her sanity and hope. When Hatifas was finally driven insane, Hati swears to stop her, offering her service to the Volunteer Army in-story.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: On the receiving end on this; Hati never loses faith in her, and constantly tries to knock some sense into her. She succeeded in the Hatifas recruitment scene.
  • Magikarp Power: Her stats without any Limit Break is very awful for a 5-star wizard. To elaborate, her stats at LVL 60 is 4780 Attack and 3440 HP. The average 4-star wizard can reach those stats at LVL 50. When she at least reach LB 3 or even maximum Limit Break, her stats became quite excellent. With a great weapon, she could became a great addition to a Wizard team, even more so with both of her abilities unlocked.
  • Restored My Faith in Humanity: Part of the reason she became a demon is because of her despair seeing the Black Army destroyed her kingdom. After Hati beat some sense into her and seeing how the Volunteer Army kept on repelling her attacks one after another, she's finally convinced that humanity can defeat the Black Army after all.
  • Stripperriffic: Take a good look at her clothing. Those are scrolls, and it certainly doesn't cover much.

Liam

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/liam.jpg
A methodical man entrusted with a powerful magic tome by his late father, his magic potential is immensely high as long as he keep that tome nearby. However, the immense power of the tome has put him in danger, since everyone (including monsters) wants it for their own needs.

A Global exclusive character, only available in the Fortune Festivities event (so far).

  • Audio Erotica: If this thread is of any indication, some players found his voice to be quite sexy.
  • Child Prodigy: Liam wrote many magic theories in his childhood, all of it written in his childhood notebook.
  • Doing Research: Pretty much his favorite pastime. When he joined you at the end of his first quest, he immediately asked to be introduced to your 'science officer', presumably to contribute in ways comfortable to him. It's probably for the best that he doesn't meet Melchior in his story.
  • Memento MacGuffin: His spell tome is a gift from his late father. The most notable thing about it is that while it give him immense power, not even Liam himself have read the contents of the book. Unfortunately for him, the rumors circulating around the tome has gathered a lot of bounty for it. It's just an ordinary blank book, and it only functions to make Liam more confident in his skills.
    • The spell tome in question function by enhancing his magic power, and he said that he wouldn't be able to fight well without it. Actually, his father pulled a fast one on him, and he's okay without it.
  • Security Blanket: His magic tome. He absolutely flips whenever his spell tome is not in his immediate presence. It's honestly funny seeing him flip at the beginning of his third quest, only to calm down in the next line after realizing that the tome is still on his possession.
  • Status Effects: His specialty is slowing enemies. To elaborate, his skill inflicts slow and (after completing all of his quest) his normal attacks has 50% chance to inflict slow. And he has one more ability that deals more damage to slowed down enemies.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: The spell tome that his father entrusted was nothing more than an empty book boasted as an all-powerful tome to spark his confidence. Realizing this made Liam able to fight better without his tome nearby at the end of his story (with a little prodding from Pirika).

Schule

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/schule.png
Magical Sweets Warrior
An enchanted warrior with the ability to convert nutrients into magic power. With her love of sweets, however, she typically chooses sweets to power her magic and is always carrying bags of candy.
  • Cast from Calories: She was enhanced in a way that allows her to turn nutrients into power. While this ability implies any food, she turns to sweets as her go-to.
  • Magic Knight: Is classified as a Rune Fencer, and additionally inflicts boosted melee damage based off her ranged damage.
  • Sweet Tooth: Schule loves sweets, and is always seen with a bag of them. Her art even has her eating a chocolate bar.
