    Main Characters 

Yuu Ookido

A first year at Hirin Middle School. She is 12-years-old and very tall for her age. Because of her height a lot of the clubs involving sports want her to join them. The problem is, she does very bad at all sports except running. Her and her childhood friend Kenta usually do kendo together, even though she absolutely hates kendo.

Kenta Sasamori

A 6th grader at Hinawa Elementary School. He is Yuu's childhood friend and cares for Yuu, but doesn't show it. He is very into kendo and makes Yuu do kendo with him, even though she hates it. He is shown to like anime as well.

Renji Itou

A second year at Hirin Middle School.

Nagakura Jin

A second year at Hirin Middle School.

    Hirin Middle School 

Ayumu Mochida

He is a new teacher at Hirin Middle School and the advisor of the newly combined boys' and girls' kendo club. He is a former inter-high best 4, who is proficient in the ascension stance. He loves cactus.

Suzuri Kawakami

A second year at Hirin Middle School. She is a member of the Home Economics and Kendo Clubs. Renji's childhood friend.

Taiga Sasaki

A third year at Hirin Middle School. The captain of the boy's kendo club.

Shunsuke Endou

A third year at Hirin Middle School.

Teruki Arima

A third year at Hirin Middle School.

Tatsumi Miyamoto

A third year at Hirin Middle School. The captain of the girls kendo club. She used to be member of the manga illustration club in her first year, but switched to the girls' kendo club because of her admiration for the captain, Chiba Kirino.

Sariko Kikukawa

A third year at Hirin Middle School.

Mayu Tanizaki

A third year at Hirin Middle School.

Kiyomu Ono

A second year at Hirin Middle School.

Komichi Sugiyama

A second year at Hirin Middle School.

Kiba Nana

A first year at Hirin Middle School. She and Yuu have been friends for awhile, but Yuu didn't notice her when she first saw her. Nana completely changed her look from the last time Yuu saw her, replacing her eye glasses with contacts and styling her hair similarly to idol, Sawamiya Erina. She is into music. She is no longer interested in things that Yuu currently likes, because she believes those are for children.

Kei Endou

A first year at Hirin Middle School. Shunsuke's younger sister. Her brother forbids her to join the kendo club until he retires from the club.

Ayako Sumi

The former adviser to the Hirin Middle School Girl's Kendo Club. She lost her position as adviser when the Girl's Kendo Club and the Boys Kendo Club merged into a single club and a new adviser was appointed. Although she is not a very good kendoka, she cares deeply about the club and its students. She was the adviser of the girl's kendo club when Chiba Kirino attended Hirin Middle School.

Shirou Takenaka

The former advisor to the Hirin Middle School Birl's Kendo Club. He lost his position as advisor when the Boys' Kendo Club and the Girls' Kendo Club merged into a single club and a new adviser was appointed.

Kirino Chiba

An alumnus of Hirin Middle School, former kendo club captain. Currently a second year student at Muroe Highschool. Only appears in flashback.

Sayako Kuwahara

An alumnus of Hirin Middle School. Currently a second year student at Muroe Highschool. Only known by name.

    Yuu and Kenta Relatives 

Yuu's Mother

No name given, work as an instructor at a cooking school.

Yuu's Father

No name given, work as a salaryman.

Kenzou Sasamori

The owner of the Sasamori Dojo. Kenta and the Saimura siblings grandfather.

Kaguya Saimura

One of the Kendo Komachi. A third year student at Shuchou Middle School in Nagasaki, Kyushu (first year student at Yayoikura High School, also in Nagasaki, Kyushu in BBC manga). The current Japan junior high national champion. Refuses to participate in the Banish Academy because she was busy studying for high school entrance exam. Only known by name in the BB manga. She's Kenta cousin.

Yo Saimura

A 6th grader, Kaguya's younger brother and Kenta's cousin. The current Japan elementary national champion.

    Ten'ou Middle School 

Shoutarou Satou

A second year student at Ten'ou Middle School. A member of Kouinryuu Dojo.

Keisuke Tsujimura

A second year student at Ten'ou Middle School. A member of Kouinryuu Dojo.

Ryuuji Yoshida

A third year student at Ten'ou Middle School.

Hajime Baba

A third year student at Ten'ou Middle School. The captain of the kendo club.

Hime Okuzono

A second year student at Ten'ou Middle School. Used to go to the same dojo as Renji and Jin and the reason they got kicked out from that dojo.

Chiru Masago

A second year student at Ten'ou Middle School.

Chika Konuma

A third year student at Ten'ou Middle School.

Kyouko Kawabata

The advisor of Ten'ou kendo club.

    Gen'ei Academy 

Suiren Yaginuma

One of the Kendo Komachi. A third year middle school student at Gen'ei Academy in Kanagawa, Kanto (first year high school student at the same academy in BBC manga).
  • The Fighting Narcissist: A positive one. Somewhat vain and obsessed with her own beauty, yet a genuinely skilled kendoka and a graceful loser. Defeating her is much more likely to convince her that she's still lacking in "beauty" and make her more determined to improve herself.

Sae Nemoto

A third year student at Gen'ei Academy.

Kaneto Ozeki

A second year student at Gen'ei Academy. A member of Kouinryuu Dojo.

    Shirokiji Academy 

Souji Kazami

A third year student at Shirokiji Academy.

Kousei Watanabe

A third year student at Shirokiji Academy.
