- "We are moved to tears by the size of this thing." ExplanationIf you make an especially large Katamari, the King will commend you for your *ahem* "hard" work.
- Killer Instinct:
- Konami:
- Konmai Quality ExplanationA term used for instances of blatant bugs or other errors in Konami games. Often used for Konami's BEMANI games, since the typo originated there.
- #FucKonami ExplanationAfter the departure of Hideo Kojima from Konami as well as the nixing of Silent Hills, fans have jokingly stated that Konami's business strategies for 2015 amount to "fuck our biggest IPs and most of all, fuck you."
- Konami doesn't make games anymore. ExplanationDue to the above actions of Konami, longtime fans are concerned that Konami no longer produces video games. They still do, including Quiz Magic Academy and the aforementioned BEMANI games, but because those and Konami's other active titles are Asia-only arcade games, Western (especially American or people from countries when arcades are a dying breed) fans either ignore them or don't know that they exist.
- Klonoa:

- Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords:
- Apathy is death. ExplanationThe infamous neutral option ("I'll just stand back and watch") in the Kreia-vs.-party confrontation in the Korriban tomb. Kreia scolds you, followed by she (and several party members) reciting the line, and then the entire party attacking you.
- You will not erode Sion's will. [You have eroded Sion's will.] ExplanationThe final confrontation with Darth Sion requires you to make him doubt himself and the power of the dark side, since his connection to it makes him effectively immortal. Through some unfortunate word choice, he will call you out on this and claim you're wasting your breath the first time you try, right before the game tells you with very nearly the exact same wording that you actually did make some headway.
- L.A. Noire. For a game with so much dialogue, it's no surprise that something would mutate sooner or later:
- "Yeah, let's change the subject, YOU GOY MOTHERFUCKER! How about baseball?!" ExplanationThis is uttered by the main suspect in your very first interrogation, a tutorial. So prepare to hear this a lot.
- "You disappoint me, Phelps. *Beat* GET BACK IN THERE AND RAISE SOME LUMPS BOY! I need a confession!" ExplanationDa Chief contributing to the But Thou Must!-factor of the aforementioned tutorial.

- Also the Narmworthy "King of Limboooo!" ExplanationThe song that plays if you make it to the end.
- LittleBigPlanet:
- Swoop is OP ExplanationDuring the E3 2014 stage demo for this game, the players had trouble getting past certain parts. This occasionally led to the person playing Swoop flying in, picking them up, and flying the other character up to where they needed to be. This led to fear that Swoop would become a Game-Breaker by being able to bypass obstacles, and thusly this meme was created.
- "Did you know you can scamper up walls?", "Aw nuts, a plot twist!" "The elevator ain't gonna move until we refill the cup with milkshake." "This music's pretty catchy, huh?" explanations To anyone whose played the game, a lot of what Marlon Random says is a meme. These are some of the highlights. This explains it pretty well. (And yes, that is an edited version of a story level.)
- Love Live! School idol festival:
- I finished this song with all Perfects and I still got a C, fuck this shit. ExplanationRhythm Game veterans are often shocked when they try School Idol Festival, manage to get all Perfects on a song, yet still get an awful score because of the game's "better idols = better score" scoring system, as a way of encouraging players to dump money into Love Gems so they can have more opportunities to get Super Rare and Ultra Rare idols and have more LP to have more chances to level up said idols for better stats. This is on contrast to many other rhythm games, where a perfect run is rewarded accordingly (unless the player uses assistance mods); in fact, LLSIF doesn't even recognize all-Perfect runs.
- 1 Good ExplanationA major source of frustration is getting a combo-breaking judgement, the highest of those being a Good. Since each song has rewards based on score, max combo, and play count, and the highest combo rewards are only available with a full combo, even one combo break is enough to deprive the player out of the best rewards.
- #LoveLiveWins ExplanationIn May of 2015, an article reported on the removal of references to lesbian relationships and the switching of the Featureless Protagonist's implied gender from female to male. After much protesting from fans, KLab rewrote the Bowdlerised lines to put the references back in and switch the protagonist back to a female protagonist and patched in the revised script on June 30, 2015. The hashtag is a reference to #LoveWins, a trending tag that was used less than a week ago after the Supreme Court of the United States made a landmark decision that permitted the licensing of same-sex marriages in all 50 states.

At times, developers Demiurge alluded to it (once the clue was "Infinite Kaleidoscope Of Lights", which fits Dazzler's powers... but the answer was actually in the initials). And then Dazzler actually joined the game, and actually helpful for those players who joked about her for years.

Oh and trust us, they're hard.
- Futa NepgearExplanationAfter the Bad Ending of Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2 featured Nepgear killing the other CPUs with an evil sword, it became a running gag in the fandom to depict Nepgear with a futanari (hermaphrodite) penis, sometimes flat-out referring to it as "Gehaburn" (the name of the evil sword.

- This game's Hunter, Ochette, also being a Pokémon Trainer due to her capturing monsters she defeats and using them as companions. This time, you even get to choose a starter!
- "KONO HARVEY DA!"ExplanationHarvey's JP voice actor is Takehito Koyasu, who is famous for voicing Dio Brando and voices Harvey just as hammily as he did with Dio. Harvey's also just as cruel and petty to Osvald as Dio was to Jonathan Joestar. Harvey even poses like Dio does during his boss fight.
- "THESE HANDS!"ExplanationOne of Castti's battle quotes when she boosts to 4BP, which a lot of people took a shine to due to its similarity to the "catch these hands" slang.
- Purple chests.ExplanationWhen it was discovered that, unlike the original game, there are no chests that the player can't open unless they have the Thief character in their active party, it didn't take long for people to start joking about how there are purple chests in the game, referencing how Throné dresses in purple and has large breasts.
- Agnea has the most "talent".ExplanationIn the Japanese version of Agnea's Prologue, Pala suggests that Agnea make use of her "peaches" to round up some people to help at the festival, obviously referring to Agnea's breasts. This, however, was changed in the English dub to Pala speaking of Agnea's "talents". This quickly drew parallels with DiC's English dub of the Sailor Moon anime, where Makoto saying she had the largest breasts in the Japanese version was dubbed in English to her having the most "talent".
- Osvald’s Breasts. Explanation MANY times throughout his story, Osvald will mention the “fire in his breast”.

- PAYDAY 2:
- Don't act dumb. ExplanationUttered in a completely deadpan tone by Houston as one of his 'trying to get a cop to surrender/intimidating a civilian' quotes. - PAYDAY 3:
- Infinite double barrel shotgun ExplanationPeople have noticed in the first trailer that in a clip, a player fires a double barrel shotgun three times, which some theorizing it might be due to a unknown skill. Once this trend continued into dev diaries, people joked that this would be a Running Gag for pre-release footage, such as the shotgun firing more than three times. This behavior would be explained when the Closed Beta launched, as the Ammo Funnel skill causes any ammo that is picked up to be automatically loaded into the weapon first, with anything in excess then going to reserves as usual.
- Smug Joy ExplanationOn the day of Joy and Pearl's reveal, Plaion tweeted about their inclusion, which included a image of Joy inexplicably having a shit eating grin on her face on her unmasked image. People took a liking towards this expression, to the point of some finding her more endearing as a result. Of course, this led to some memes about her smug grin.
- Stealing Starbreeze's serversExplanationAfter the game was released, the game was plagued with server problems where barely anybody can matchmake into a lobby, if at all. These problems persisted for days after launch, resulting in various memes about the matchmaking system and how the Payday gang broke in and stole Starbreeze's servers.

This particular line follows stage 2.
- Pepsi for pizza!note After stage 3.

ExplanationHalfway through the story, the narrator berates you (again) for making Jane do "sick" things, such as agreeing to her perverted boss' proposal, in order to proceed. While he's talking down to you, he puts on a chicken suit, and the picture is flipped upside down. The Angry Video Game Nerd's reaction to this turn of events is priceless.
- "Do girls actually like guys who are really aggressive?ExplanationOne of the first options you're presented with is whether or not John (the titular "plumber") should make the first move on Jane. The one that tells him to "wait" has a voice clip saying this.

- HOT DOOGLE DOOGLE HOOOOOT ExplanationThe main chorus of 1Tym's Hot has spawned a truly impressive variety of mishearings.
- I will make you understand! ExplanationA prominent voice clip used in Final Audition and its many, many, many, many, many, MANY remixes.

- Rambo:
- "I feel safer in prison."ExplanationOne of the choices during the opening cutscene of the NES game. This leads to:

- Real-Time Strategy genre:
- "Im in your base killing your d00ds!" ExplanationOriginated in on-line multiplayer RTS games such as Command & Conquer and StarCraft, probably when a player retorted with the line while a newbie was scouting to the exclusion of managing his base, and asked where his opponent was. Often used for LOLCats to be in your something doing something.
- Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale:

Lampshaded by John when Dutch assures him in the meeting in I: "You always got a plan."

- RosenkreuzStilette:
- "Traitorous dog! Your life ends here!" ExplanationGrolla's Pre Ass Kicking One Liner to Spiritia before the former's boss battle.
- STUN Runner
- コインいっこ いれる ExplanationA poor attempt to localize the phrase "INSERT COIN" into Japanese. What's ironic is that the phrase could have just been left in English and it would still make sense to Japanese players, since most Japanese arcade games have it as Gratuitous English, and most of the English text in this particular game wasn't even translated.
- Scribblenauts:
- I FUCKING TRAVELLED THROUGH TIME AND JUMPED ON A DINOSAUR AND USED IT TO KILL MOTHERFUCKING ROBOT ZOMBIES. ExplanationPart of a Neogaf post from someone who had played a demo of the game at E3, which ended up being noticed by the developers.

- Atlus Hard ExplanationAtlus's games, especially the Megami Tensei games, are so infamously difficult that, among other things, That One Boss. Atlus became the first That One Boss subpage that isn't a genre page.
- "We get off on your tears." ExplanationAram Jabbari, formerly of Atlus USA, said this about the company while talking about Demon's Souls. It's currently the page quote for both Atlus's Creator and That One Boss page.
- Rated M for Mara. ExplanationMara is, to put it bluntly, a giant green penis with tentacles in a golden, spiked chariot. When the Devil Survivor games omitted it, they got away with T ratings. When other games lighter than it included Mara, they got M ratings. Many fans suspect that Mara is the main reason for the ratings difference.
- Use buffs, retard. ExplanationA common notion that players of other JRPGs carry is that buff and debuff skills are all Useless Useful Spells. The series averts this hard, where buffs and debuffs can determine whether you barely survive an attack or suffer a Total Party Kill. This is one of the first pieces of advice to be given to anyone inexperienced with SMT.
- Megami Tensei Wiki, the biggest English-language fan wiki for the SMT (and Persona) games, has been a Running Gag among the fandom as an example of how not to document a large franchise for wiki purposes.ExplanationIt being hosted on FANDOM which since the 2010s has been criticized for becoming an ad-infested, user-unfriendly wikifarm, is just scratching the surface. Going deeper reveals content rife with inaccurate info or copy-pasted from fan guides without credit (like the damage formulas). The userbase is not any better, with one admin always insisting the wrong info is correct despite other users' attempts to fix them. Not to mention that some articles fail to explain some topics properly due to missing information. The wiki is so bad that even the Japanese can not trust it.
- Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne:
- "Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry Series." ExplanationWhile the Japanese and American versions of the game were close-ups on the Demi-Fiend, the European cover zooms out from the character to show Dante on the background and to put this very message on the cover, in one quite blatant example of Wolverine Publicity. The message became an exploitable and was plastered on almost every fake videogame cover under the sun.
- Matador / "I swear, by my sword and capote, that I will once again prove victorious!" ExplanationMatador is fought early on and is regarded as the poster child for Atlus Wake Up Call Bosses, due to the battle requiring specific strategies (more specifically, manipulation of hit/evade rates) in order for victory to be achieved. The accompanying quote is his Pre Ass Kicking One Liner and is not to be taken lightly.
- Mot's Drama. ExplanationWhether by bug or bad design, Mot has a peculiar attack pattern in which he can use any move whenever. One of these moves is Beast Eye, which sacrifices one turn for two half turns. (Yes, there is a difference.) If Mot has a half turn, Beast Eye will sacrifice a half turn for two half turns instead. His other moves are Makakaja (magic buff) and Megidolaon (High Almighty damage). Mot's Drama is the most common name for the rare occasion when Mot decides to spam Beast Eye and Makakaja before spamming Megidolaon, wiping out your party.
- ONE MORE GOD REJECTED ExplanationPart of the lyrics of one of the battle themes. Any mention of Nocturne is bound to get this response.
- Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne would NEVER take advantage of our innate gullibility! ExplanationA line spoken from a weird ad for the X Play Awards, which became notorious partially because seeing an elderly couple talking about SMT is inherently funny but also because said statement is... inaccurate, to say the least.
- Shin Megami Tensei IV:
- The Dark Souls of Persona ExplanationPlayers accustomed to Persona 3 and 4 were in for a shock when they tried SMTIV, to the point of making this analogy. Though, this reputation doesn't hold up amongst veterans of the mainline SMT games, who find IV easy more than anything.
- Oh, a Hunter. ExplanationThe Black Market dealers talk in a very annoyed tone to the point where it becomes hilarious. This is their intro line under normal circumstances and is the most popular line from them.
- Photoshopping either Walter's funny background facial expressions or Jonathan's hair onto other characters.
- "Behold my demons!" God DAMN it Walter. ExplanationThe game's first major difficulty spike is the boss Minotaur, who is immune to fire. Since SMT 4's press-turn system gives huge bonuses to a demon whenever they nullify an attack (the 'Smirk" buff), it's best to avoid hitting bosses with such attacks. Except you have to fight Minotaur with a guest party member, randomly chosen from the three characters following you. One of Walter's spells is Agi, the fire spell, meaning a player have Minotaur on the ropes, only to have Walter jump in at the end of your turn to "help", grant Minotaur a buff, then die to one of the boss's attacks.
- EAT A ZIO!!! ExplanationFrom Sirlionhart's walkthrough. Let's just say that he was... particularly gleeful when he discovered David's weakness.
- Merkabah hates manga Explanation Near the beginning of the game, Isabeau discovers The Rose of Versailles and quickly becomes a fan. This is one of the earliest hints that the high fantasy setting of the first few hours is actually built above a post-apocalyptic Tokyo, but after the initial reveal her interest in the manga becomes a running gag. If you get the law ending, you'll have a boss fight against Isabeau, with Merkabah's reasoning for why she has to die being out-of-context gold.
- Shin Megami Tensei V:
- "The God you worshipped is dead." ExplanationThe very first line of the July 2020 mini direct trailer, uttered by none other than Lucifer. Needless to say, it made an impression. It's also used by SMT fans to mock non-fans who were disappointed by the mini-direct.
- "Oh, you want some? WELL DO YA?!" ExplanationWhile the game has plenty of assist demons that help you find items hidden in the map, Amanozako in specific became the most infamous one due to her voice and her presence in the game's story, with this line in specific being by far the most notable one due to how unsuitably aggresive she sounds while saying it.
- The protagonist's hair have become a source of COVID-19 Pandemic jokes, as its extremely uneven cut makes it look like he screwed up cutting his own hair, which is something a lot of people had to do during the quarantine.
- Young Man...ExplanationAogami's tendency to begin every conversation with the protagonist by addressing him as "Young Man". Spawned many posts on social media imagining Aogami saying various things to the protagonist.
- Skullgirls:
- Republican Double. ExplanationWhen the voice-acting cast got their hands on the game, they started doing over-the-top impressions of their own characters as they played. This eventually lead to one of the (male) cast members playing as Double, the resident Eldritch Abomination, while doing a Fat Albert impression that became known, thanks to the red palette of the Double they were playing as, as Republican Double. This appeared in several of their other playthrough videos and is now apparently going to be a downloadable DLC voice pack.
- EKG Flatiner in the air. ExplanationIn the cast playthroughs, Valentine's voice actor Laura Post would mainly use her EKG Flatliner as a Blockbuster attack - and almost every time she used it, she went straight over their heads and missed (except for the time she caught the very edge of Peacock's hat, which was awesome).
- "Where the hell are my Egrets?!" ExplanationParasoul's voice actor, Erin Fitzgerald, freaking out as she tries to do her character's moves that involve her Egret troops attacking and protecting her. Not always successfully.
- "TAKE THE GODDAMNED SHOT!" ExplanationSame as above only a more-damaging attack, so much more tension.
- "Click dat bitch." ExplanationIn Christine (Filia's voice actor)'s 20-minute attempt to defeat Marie, after about the fourth try she gets the advice from her fellow VAs to 'click all the buttons', which leads to the above line.
- Rich Brown's ridiculously smooth voice acting is starting to become a meme in and of itself.
- When's Annie? ExplanationIn the two votes on who the next DLC character should be Annie came very close to being selected twice, and was outvoted each time (by Eliza and Beowulf). Given that the character is very popular among the fanbase already, questions of when she would be added into the game became a memetic comment on various updates and forum posts for the game.
- Beep boop meow. ExplanationCatchphrase of the catgirl Ms. Fortune's robotic double, Robo-Fortune (who started life as a community joke herself and is now playable.
- Given the game's Improbably Female Cast, the concept of the Skullgirls Dating Sim has become a meme even among the developers.
- Sly 2: Band of Thieves:
- Dimitri's suit is greasy sweet. ExplanationDimitri Lousetau is a marine iguana with a strange fashion sense and bizarre lingo. "Greasy sweet" is his catchphrase.
- Spyro the Dragon:
- "Be on the lookout for attack frogs! They're cold blooded killers!"Explanation Said by Roscoe in Misty Bog. Be warned. They really are cold blooded killers!
- Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!:
- "Trouble with the trolley, eh?"Explanation What the gull in Breeze Harbor says when you crash the trolley in the gathering gears mini-game. You will be hearing this line a lot.
- S.T.A.L.K.E.R.:
- "Cheeki breeki!"ExplanationOne of the battle quotes used by "bandit" enemies. The full quote is "A nu, cheeki breeki i v damke!" ("А ну, чики-брики и в дамки!"). It refers to the act of "kinging" a piece in checkers, and in-game is used as a heavily slangy way to say "Quickly, flank him!/Quickly, get him!", etc. Since "cheeki breeki" is an Inherently Funny Word, this caught on with both Russian and non-Russian gamers and is now seen not only as emblematic of the game series, but of Russian "gopnik" culture in general.
- "Get out of here, Stalker!"ExplanationA line by a random NPC in the first game, which is bugged so that he repeats it nearly constantly while the player is in the room
- "I said come in! Don't stand there!"ExplanationAnother bugged line, said by a man at the entrance to the Bar, who constantly repeats it while the player is in front of him.
- "Such is life in the Zone" ExplanationAnother game quote, often used in response to the game's difficulty, or to its notoriously buggy state causing glitches.
- The "Bandit Radio" song that plays in Clear Sky.ExplanationThe song is notable just for how completely out-of-place its upbeat, cheery tune sounds in the bleak and depressing environment of the Zone. It frequently gets combined with "Cheeki breeki" when people make fun of the games' sillier aspects.
- "Blowout soon, fellow Stalker!" "Really, when?" "NOW!"ExplanationA humorous quote from a comic◊ depicting an NPC warning the player about an imminent blowout (an extremely dangerous random event), but only delivering the warning seconds before the blowout happens.
- "You see, Ivan...◊"ExplanationOne glitch in the game has NPC's occasionally holding their guns wrong. This is most obvious when they hold a pistol as though it is a rifle. Someone took a picture of this and captioned it in broken English as though the stalker is advising a man named "Ivan" on shooting technique. It quickly snowcloned from there.
- Star Control II:
- "Hold! What you are doing is wrong! Why do you do this thing?" ExplanationThe famous words spoken by the Mael-Num to the newly-genocidal Black Ur-Quan just as they were embarking on their "Eternal Doctrine" (read: genocide). The words piqued their conscience just long enough for their slightly-less genocidal brothers to stop them (though actually this is ancient history by the time the player gets involved). Y'see, the green Ur-Quan weren't that much better than the black Ur-Quan. Now used as a gamer's in-joke to call out any idea for being too outrageous for consideration.
- The *fat words* Orz *spits* are most *squishy* and make *campers* *enjoy the sauce*! ExplanationOrz speech is very entertaining to both write and read.
- "Don't you mean you want to talk about FLOWERS?" ExplanationA line from the mind-controlling Dnyarri, who does not want to talk about its psychic powers, and mind tricks the player into talking about flowers instead.
- PRIORITY OVERRIDE! NEW BEHAVIOR DICTATED! MUST BREAK TARGET INTO COMPONENT MATERIALS! ExplanationThe last line always spoken by a Slylandro Probe before they attack, usually interrupting something it was saying before.
- Stellaris:
- MUGANI? HAK HAK HAK!ExplanationA quote from the indecipherable language of the Prethoryn Scourge if you try to communicate with them. The latter part is specifically an Evil Laugh.
- "Jeff" ExplanationOne particularly ugly Necroid alien portrait was used for a premade species named the "Jeferians". The combination of ugliness and the odd name "Jeferians" lead the community to nickname the portrait and any species using it as "Jeff". Jeff is often used to represent any terrible or unpleasant civilization in the game.
- WHAT WAS, SHALL BE! WHAT SHALL BE, WAS!ExplanationA quote from an Eldritch Abomination that can spawn as part of an event chain. The player has a choice whether to submit to it or not (submitting does not end the game, but grants bonuses of... dubious value).
- Bubbles the Space AmoebaExplanationOne semi-frequent event in the game has a lost baby space amoeba start following your fleet around. If you don't drive it off or kill it for science, it becomes a controllable unit, which you get to name like a pet. "Bubbles" is just one of the options, but is usually considered the funniest.
- Sci-Fi War Crimes SimulatorExplanationStellaris provides a staggering number of options for being terrible, ranging from playing as a hive mind that wants to eat everyone, to blowing up inhabited planets with what is essentially the Death Star, to building a slaver empire, to using other intelligent beings as food, and so on...
- Subway Surfers:
- "You unlocked Clown Outfit"ExplanationThe character Frank has an alternate costume that makes him wear a clown mask. The screen displayed when unlocking this costume is used similarly to "You are not a clown. You are the entire circus.", to tell people that they made a clown (fool) of themselves.
- Sunset Riders:
- Marry me with my money... ExplanationYet another arcade mishearing: the first boss, having been defeated, is actually saying 'Bury me with my money'.
- Temtem
- "She/Her" "He/His" "They/Them" ExplanationThe option to have your character linked to gender-neutral pronouns, and select pronouns separately from your characters body type, was enough for a few players less receptive to this idea to give Temtem negative reviews. This lead to those who agreed with the inclusion of non-binary and trans-affirming pronouns joking about the bad reviews en masse.
- Joking that temtem is, in fact, Digimon/Yu-Gi-Oh!/Yo Kai Watch/Monster Rancher/Duel Masters/(insert Mons Series here)
- Platypet, a platypus-like Temtem, quite predictably drew plenty of comparisons and references to Perry the Platypus.
- Crystal Skates Crystal Skates Crystal Skates ExplanationAs of the early access release, players lose the Crystal Skates item that leads to several useful areas and items as part of the story, and then the available story content ends before you get them back. The amount of players asking for it eventually lead to the devs telling players that a Tateru dies each time they ask. Cue players spamming it repeatedly.
- Tetris:
- I am the man who arranges the blocks... ExplanationA video about the complete history of the Soviet Union sung to the melody of Tetris quickly spread across the internet. The line would constantly reappear throughout the song, and now you can usually expect to find it several times in the comments for any video related to Tetris or Korobeiniki.
- It should be called T-Spin, not Tetris. ExplanationModern Tetris games award a "T-Spin" bonus for maneuvering the T piece into a tight position and clearing a line with it. Some games award a bonus for accomplishing the Difficult, but Awesome T-Spin triple line clear, with the bonus being higher than that of a Tetris. Whether this is a fair reward or going against the spirit of the Tetris franchise is a hot topic.
- And from Tetris: The Grand Master:
- Japan Tetris Finals ExplanationTetris: The Absolute - The Grand Master 2 PLUS is best known for its T.A. Death mode, in which the game begins with pieces dropping instantly. A mirror of the infamous video, titled "Japan Tetris Finals", can be found here.
- Invisible Tetris ExplanationTetris: The Grand Master 3 is best known for having a section during the credits in which the game continues, but with pieces turning invisible as they lock down. Certain conditions must be met (one being to reach level 999 (levels are counted differently in TGM, being based on pieces dropped + lines cleared), and unlocking and performing well enough in the "invisible roll" is required to achieve the highest ranks. The video can be found here.
- Ready, go! ExplanationThe game has a distinct robot voice that speaks this at the start of every game.
- EXCELLENT — but...let's go better next time ExplanationTetris: The Grand Master 3 treats failing to reach level 500 of Master mode and levels 500 or 1000 of Shirase mode under hidden time requirements as a Nonstandard Game Over, and flashes this Gratuitous English message.
- REGRET!! ExplanationIn TGM 3, failing to complete a section in Master mode fast enough results in this message, as well as a grade penalty and a Scare Chord.
- DANGER — The hardest puzzle game; not for beginners ExplanationDuring the TGM 2015 location test, a sign was hung above the cabinet with this text.
- TAISHO x ALICE
- Hiragana Alice and Katakana AliceExplanationThe first part of Taisho x Alice received an infamously bad English translation which, among other things, includes this gem: "Fine, I'll be Katakana (Alice). And you'll be Hiragana Alice (Alisu)." Otome game fandom took this and ran with it (and "Katakana Alice" is still occasionally used as a Fan Nickname for the character who says it).
- Time Crisis:
- Wild Dog's death or lack thereof ExplanationWild Dog, The Dragon of the first two games' Big Bads, is notorious for appearing to blow himself up in one game, only to appear in the next and repeat the process. The series currently spans five main installments, which Wild Dog has appeared in every single one of. Every time a new Time Crisis game comes out, one of the first questions fans tend to ask is something along the lines of "Does Wild Dog finally die?
- Transformice:
- ANVIL GOD! ExplanationWith clever use of rotating anchors and anvils, players discovered a method of creating a wild amalgam of anvils that easily tossed nearby mice around. This was later incorporated into an official level.
- This bridge looks legit. ExplanationMany levels require shamans to create bridges to the cheese. Between weak architectural design, an imperfect physics engine and good old-fashioned trolling, they can't always be expected to work. The meme can be used both straight and sarcastically.
- FUCKING WALLJUMPERS ExplanationA glitch in the game allows mice to jump repeatedly from most walls to gain height with enough skill and timing. The developers decided to leave it in. Still, it becomes almost certain that experts will get to the cheese first, and some players are bitter.
- Gleany? WTF is a Gleany? ExplanationAn unlockable adjective. Almost no one seems to know the definition.
- Treasure Master
- "Nothing in life matters!" (thumbs-up)ExplanationA popular image about nihilism compares the stereotypical depressed Straw Nihilist with the cool, Totally Radical boy on the game's cover representing reality. It's possible the meme creator picked this particular image because it oozes 90's hedonism.
- Triangle Strategy:
- The Saltiron War.ExplanationThe rather on-the-nose name of the last main war in the game's setting became popular as a joke aimed at flame wars, presumably due to the salt part, especially on sites like twitter.
- Since Square Enix worked on both Triangle Strategy and Octopath Traveler, people started joking about other possible game titles that were based on some kind of shape.
- Undecided Anna.ExplanationThe game's voting system usually has two or three characters supporting each of the possible choices, with one character being "undecided." This is to help the player get the outcome they want, since the "undecided" voter is generally easier to convince the way you want them to go. However, since Anna is put in the "undecided" section the most often, players like to joke about how she can't ever make up her mind unless Serenoa tells her what to do.
- Trio the Punch
- LUCKY! CHA CHA CHA!ExplanationLand on a number that actually gives you something in the bonus stage
- WHAT?ExplanationIn the final stage, do what you you wouldn't think to do and strike a passing bird...
- CRUETYExplanationA dog...
- YEAH?ExplanationA butterfly...
- YOU FIGURED IT OUTExplanationAnd finally a pigeon, ending this very absurd game.
- Untitled Goose Game
- "Peace was never an option." explanationThis quote is often paired with images of the goose holding a knife, perched on an axe, or other images pertaining to the goose's violent nature.
- WACCA: Missless!ExplanationCompleting a track with no misses results in a Full Combo mark, as is typical of Rhythm Games. However, clearing the track with 1-5 misses awards a Missless! mark, despite the fact that the player obviously missed a few times. Players on both sides of the Pacific struggle to understand what the game means by this, whether as some sort of Anti-Frustration Feature or Sarcasm Mode. It may be Engrish and was intended as Miss Less.
- Warframe
- The Witness: Jonathan Blow's piss jar.ExplanationDuring the Golden Ending, a jar of what appears to be urine can be seen briefly on the floor, something YouTube commenters are quick to point out.
- The World Ends with You:
- So zetta slow!explanationOne of many math-related catchphrases of Mad Mathematician Sho Minamimoto. Used in a similar manner as Slowpoke to mock someone for posting about an old topic.
- He's also used similarly to Ultros to tell some Incredibly Lame Pun, but math related.
- Joshua and his Super Jesus Beam. Joshua is a form of the name Jesus, after all. (Yoshua and Yeshua have the same root name.)
- Come get some Hot Stuff. ExplanationMick learns how to market pins using outdated slang in horribly right ways.
- Shiki's "Pants. Off. Now." and Beat's "IM DIGGIN' IT!" are popular among fans.
- Tin Pin. SLAM ON!
- Must... resist... emo urges! Explanation"Another Day" presents us with a considerably more upbeat Neku, whose love of Tin Pin Slammer prevents him from being the antisocial jerk he is at the beginning of the main game.
- There's a party in my mouth! ExplanationBeat's often considered ridiculous line for when given his favorite food.
- Shut up and walk, dear. <3 ExplanationAnd "Another Day" somehow manages to make Joshua even more suspect than before.
- I need more candy canes. ExplanationThe main theme "Twister" has notable Word Salad Lyrics. This line is emphasized by the instruments cutting out briefly and makes less sense than most.
- Worms: Oy! Nutta! ExplanationOne of the lines from the titular Worms.
- Xenoblade Chronicles 1:
- "I'm really feeling it!" ExplanationShulk says this a lot during combat.
- "Now it's Reyn time!" ExplanationReyn says this so much in combat that it might as well always be Reyn time.
- "Now it's Shulk time!" ExplanationShulk's up-taunt in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS.
- "Heropon Riki bestest!" ExplanationAn infamous quote from a nopon NPC in a cutscene made famous by several YTPs. Also used to describe Riki's status as a Memetic Badass (at least in gameplay) and a heropon.
- Xenogears:
- X-Universe memes are mostly limited to the games' forums. Nevertheless:
- Profitsss. ExplanationThe word the Teladi are obsessed with, and say using Sssssnake Talk.
- Praying to GoD. Explanation"GoD" is the name given to the games' economics management engine, which among other things deletes underperforming NPC space stations. Closely related to Random Number God in effect.
- Briefly, a picture of Bernd Lehahn, one of the developers, at his computer, posted during the announcement of X: Rebirth. The image on his computer screen started getting Photoshopped into all sorts of things ("this is what Bernd is really looking at"), including a picture of Bernd at his computer. This became a Discredited Meme after the people with Photoshop basically ran out of ideas.
- The idea that the autopilot is a gerbil. ExplanationStarted as a rant by ApricotSlice and took on a life of its own after some Deadpan Snarking by Kitch.
- Zero Escape Series:
- "This is a doomed timeline." (Or variations of that sentence.) ExplanationThe series' plot involves travelling to many alternate universes in order to create an 'optimal' timeline where the protagonists are able to accomplish their goals. (Usually, these other universes are ill-fated.) When the third game was put on hiatus, many fans declared that this meant ours was a useless timeline, and expressed their desire to leave for a better one.
- The Funyarinpa, Ladders, and Science Boy. ExplanationSome of Junpei's dialogue options in the first game are rather... odd. They're frequently quoted for being so memorable and wacky, even in context.
- "My motives are complex."ExplanationAt one point near the end of Zero Time Dilemma, the main characters ask the Big Bad about the reason behind his big plan, which is incredibly complex and involves time travel and several versions of several characters dying in other timelines. His answer is that his motives are "complex", which fans love mock because 1) it sounds like a Writer Cop Out, and 2) makes it look like not even he knows what's going on.
- Zero Wing's "Blind Idiot" Translation opening is one colossal meme by itself, spawning edits, remixes and variations by the thousands, along with creating a host of lesser memes, though it long ago became a Discredited Meme. Even on this very wiki it is the Trope Namer or redirect for five tropes (War Was Beginning, Somebody Set Up Us the Bomb, All Your Base Are Belong to Us, You Have No Chance to Survive [which also has You Are On The Way To Destruction as a redirect], For Great Justice).
- Zombies Ate My Neighbors:
