"Live as if you were to die tomorrow, learn as if you were to live forever."

Touta is a 14-year-old boy and the protagonist of UQ Holder!, as well as current seventh-placed member of the Numbers. Two years ago, his parents supposedly died in a car accident. At the start of the series, he is being taught by the mysterious Yukihime, who turns out to be the legendary vampire Evangeline. After being attacked by a bounty hunter, Touta is forced to drink her blood in order to save his friends and becomes an immortal. The pair state their basic and conflicting impressions of immortality and then set out on an adventure. He views immortality as a blessing.

    # - D
  • Accidental Pervert: As the protagonist of a Ken Akamatsu manga, Touta is bound to end up in erotic situations unintentionally, like when he's swimming at a lake and his head bumps into Kuroumaru's bare butt. The frequency of this type of accidents increases a lot after he gets his own Unwanted Harem.
  • The Ace: He's amazing at pretty much anything he tries without requiring even half the effort it takes others.
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: He likes to pat Kitty's and Kirie's heads as a sign of affection and comfort. In chapter 173, he subconsciously grows extra arms, all to give head pats to Kuroumaru, Kirie, and Karin who were in the middle of making out with him as he slept.
  • Age-Gap Romance: Like with Negi, all of Touta's potential love interests are quite a bit older than him chronologically, two of them being centuries older than him. Although, Touta's case is downplayed because he has the body and mind of a teenager while being 4-5 years old.
  • All-Loving Hero: He feels universal love for every single person in the world and tries to see the best in people, even his enemies.
  • Almighty Janitor: Touta is at the lowest ranks of UQ Holder, being made work as a floor cleaner and a waiter with a very bad salary. However, he possesses Magia Erebea and Magic Cancel, making him one of the most powerful members of the organization.
  • Amazon Chaser: He calls Kuroumaru the "best of all" because Kuroumaru is cute and strong. Even before he realized his feelings, Touta already admired Kuroumaru's prowess with swords. After Kuroumaru gets even stronger during the 45-year Time Skip, Touta witnesses Kuroumaru skillfully fending off an entire horde of demons and quietly admires Kuroumaru's strength and beauty.
  • Ambiguously Bi: While Touta has a known interest in the female form, he also offers to make Pactios with Santa and Ikkuu, despite being male. He sees no difference between kissing men and women.
  • Amnesiac Hero: Touta has no memories from before his "car accident". He suffers amnesia again for some months after he fuses with a World Tree and returns 43 years later.
  • Anti-Magic: Like Asuna before him, he has the ability to nullify magic.
  • Artificial Family Member: Everyone calls him Negi Springfield's grandson, but Touta is actually some sort of clone made from his DNA. He also has genetic material from Asuna, making her his grandmother.
  • Artificial Human: He's a homunculus/clone made from a mixture of Negi Springfield and Asuna Kagurazaka's DNA, created mere years before the story begins.
  • Asleep for Days: While recovering from his forced travel to the past to meet Kitty, Touta slept for five days straight.
  • Awesomeness-Induced Amnesia: At the start of the Time Skip arc, Touta lost his memory and when he starts to remember, he can only recall until the moment where the Space Elevator was bombed and UQ Holder was attacked by Ba'al's forces. Touta believes he failed at protecting anything until he's found by the other Numbers who reveal Touta had actually saved the Earth by transforming himself into a giant World Tree that's holding the destroyed elevator in orbit. It then took him 43 years to separate himself from the World Tree and fall into Earth. Since he forgot all that, Touta can only feel confused by his friends praising him as a big hero.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: He's the youngest character in the story at about 4-5 years old, and many members of UQ Holder outstrip his age by hundreds and sometimes thousands of years. Because he has yet to experience the negative impacts of immortality, he's usually quite cheery compared to the older members of the story.
  • Badass Longcoat: He dons a black long coat for his new clothes in the Time Skip arc.
  • Bait-and-Switch Sentiment:
    • When Kuroumaru finally works up the courage to tell Touta they like him, Touta immediately says he likes Kuroumaru too... just like he likes the rest of his friends. Kuroumaru can't believe how clueless Touta is. Touta does finally get what Kuroumaru meant when he finds out Kuroumaru has No Biological Sex.
    • Under the effect of a truth potion, Touta declares his love and admiration for everybody at UQ Holder. Unfortunately for his love interests, he first does this by going up to them individually and saying "I love you!" Except for Mizore.
  • Bash Brothers: Mostly subverted. Touta calls Kuroumaru his partner and best friend, but they rarely fight as a team in the big fights because only Touta has the power to go up against the major foes while Kuroumaru is either fighting a secondary enemy or getting defeated early.
  • Bathing Beauty: A male example. He's seen taking plenty of baths throughout the series.
  • Batman Can Breathe in Space: His immortality allows him to survive in space without a spacesuit.
  • Befriending the Enemy: Like Negi did with Fate, Touta ends his fight with Nikitis by asking him to become his friend.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He's an easygoing All-Loving Hero, but he can go into a violent rage if one of his comrades is hurt, especially if it's Yukihime, Kirie, or Kuroumaru.
  • Big Man on Campus: Briefly during the Investigation Arc. After Touta beats an elite student in a duel, the news spreads quickly across the Academy city and he ends up being known throughout the campus.
  • Birds of a Feather: With Kuroumaru. Their personalities and behaviors are based on Opposites Attract, but what attracted Touta to Kuroumaru the most was that he saw that Kuroumaru was another young immortal who had no set path in life and was looking for a place to belong like him. When he hears Kuroumaru's older brother told Kuroumaru to travel to space, Touta is happy that he can share his dream with Kuroumaru and promises Kuroumaru they'll take a trip to space after the matter with the Lifemaker is finally solved.
  • Blood Magic: Touta's blood functions like solid magic. Later in the manga, he can freely control it to spawn a new body and clones of himself.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: He tends to come off as bratty because of his cocky and impulsive personality, and many have acknowledged he seriously needs to learn some discipline.
  • Brought Down to Badass: Despite having his power set greatly reduced to what it was in the beginning of the series and a missing right arm, he manages to hold his own against Demon Baron, Agali Arept, thanks to sheer grit and prior battle experiences with Kaito and Kuroumaru.
Agali Arept: Your magical power and the force of your existence have grown so weak, they are nothing to what they were before. And yet your skills appear to have grown sharper.
  • Butt-Monkey: He's frequently subjected to serious abuse and humiliation from his allies and love interests more than from his enemies.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: He passes out from a little sip of alcohol, to Kirie's disbelief.
  • The Champion: He eventually gets the resolve to defeat the Life-Maker and save the world for Yukihime's sake. He admits he doesn't have any interest in being a hero; he just wants to create a world where Yukihime can be happy. This is until Yukihime finally makes Touta see that he should live and fight for his own happiness instead of hers. After that, Touta decides he'll save the world to protect all of his allies and loved ones.
  • Chaste Hero: Having been raised by a Shameless Fanservice Girl who never bothered to tell him where babies come from, Touta starts off very oblivious to sexuality and romance. The sight of naked women gets very little reaction from him for a long time. He also fails to notice others' romantic feelings for him and keeps saying he likes everyone the same, causing him to not get there might be more than eternal friendship between him and Kuroumaru. Touta slowly grows out of it as he starts getting flustered around naked women and eventually becomes aware that he has a crush on Kuroumaru enough as to ask his friend out on a date. This is finally subverted after Touta enters a sexual relationship with Kuroumaru, Karin, and Kirie.
  • Chick Magnet: Much like Negi, he's pretty much irresistible to women (of his own apparent age, of course). It's probably genetic.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Touta has a typical habit of jumping in to help complete strangers he sees in trouble. Gengorou points this out and warns Touta that if he keeps going out of his way to solve every problem for other people, he will only exhaust himself.
  • Clone Angst: Subverted. He shows shades of this after Cutlass reveals he's an inferior clone of Negi, fearing this makes him less than a normal person. He also begins to worry that Yukihime might have only used him as a Replacement Goldfish for Negi. However, Touta's clone angst practically disappears after he starts his training with Dana. By the time Yukihime tries to address it again, Touta has already forgotten about the whole deal.
  • Clone Degeneration: He is an imperfect son created from Negi's and Asuna's DNA, resulting in him not being able to use magic conventionally due to the unnatural mix of Light (Magic Cancel) and Dark (Magia Erebea) magic within his body, aside from having distinct features from his parents like eye, skin or hair colour.
  • Clones Are People, Too: He was created as Negi's clone, but Touta is nothing like him and has his own personality. Those who know Touta is a clone of Negi don't treat him any different from a normal person. Only villains like Fate and the Life-Maker's faction think of Touta as a tool for their plans.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: As to be expected from a clone of Negi, Touta is generally oblivious to the affections of the girls around him, despite the fact that everyone else can see it. He only knows about Mizore because she doesn't hide her desire for him at all (Much like how her grandmother Ayaka does towards Negi.)
  • Combo Platter Powers: His main superpowers are high-class Immortality with powerful Healing Factor, Super-Strength, Super-Speed, Energy Absorption through Magia Erebea, and Anti-Magic through Magic Cancel. Later on, he masters advanced blood manipulation that allows generating Instant Armor and Self-Duplication, as well as developing his demonic traits to grow extra arms at will.
  • Commonality Connection: He bonds with Karin over their shared circumstances. Both are staunchly devoted to Yukihime, and have a one sided attraction towards the girl she used to be, rather than who she is now. Both are separated from Yukihime via being sealed into a World Tree. When they reunite after the time skip, both talk about coming to accept their own insignificance and failings.
  • The Confidant: When he reunites with Kuroumaru after 45 years, Kuroumaru confides in Touta all the sadness repressed for so long as a result of fighting constantly for decades and losing many of their companions to their enemies on the way. Touta comforts Kuroumaru, apologizes for leaving her to handle everything on her own for years, and promises her she can go to him for emotional support from now on.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: A complete 180 in regards to Negi - he's a teenager who's very self-confident, and has none of the anxiety that plagued 10-year-old Negi's growth. He's also more of a straight-fighter wielding a magic sword instead of a magic staff. In this respect, he's much more like his great-grandfather Nagi than Negi.
Ayaka: My, my, my. You look nothing like Negi-sensei. Your hair, your skin... You seem like a mischief-maker, without a care in the world. His opposite in every way.
  • Cool Big Bro: After befriending Santa, the little boy looks up to Touta as a cool big brother figure. He's also one to the orphans put under the care of UQ Holder.
  • Country Mouse: He spent the two years of his life he can remember in a small backwater town in the far countryside. Before his arrival to the capital, he had no contact with the city or any modern Magitek technology.
  • Covert Pervert: Touta is generally clueless about sexual attraction, but there are moments that imply he isn't so innocent. For example, he praises Karin's big breasts and calls getting wrestled by Karin a reward because he can feel up her boobs and thighs. As soon as he becomes sexually active with the female Numbers, the number of times he bangs them, especially Kuroumaru, in short amounts of time indicates he has a much higher libido than what his dense behavior towards women would make others think.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: After seeing his long missing grandfather hugging a naked Yukihime, Touta's first line to Negi is "Hey gramps. Don't get all touchy-feely with my woman."
  • Crippling Overspecialization: He was born with two very unique abilities, light-based Anti-Magic and dark-based Energy Absorption, which are so powerful and diametrically opposed that any other magic just explodes when he tries to use it. His training with Dana gives a way to walk around this by having Touta learn a Spin Attack that separates the opposing magics inside his body and gives him full access to Magia Erebea.
  • Curtains Match the Window: His hair and eyes are dark brown.
  • Cute Little Fangs: He has sharp fangs as part of being a vampire, yet they only look cute on him.
  • Daywalking Vampire: Having been turned by a True Ancestor vampire that lacks all vampiric weaknesses, sunlight never bothers Touta.
  • Dead Guy Junior: His surrogate mother named him after Touko Kuzunoha, who was Setsuna's Shinmeiryuu instructor at Mahora Academy.
  • Declaration of Protection: He promises Kirie he will always stay by her side to protect her from any harm.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: All he wants is to find a dream of his own, unfortunately every time he thinks he has found a goal it's either easy to achieve or already done.
  • Determinator: If Touta is set on something, he won't even hesitate to break the space-time continuum to make it.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: Touta has quite some trouble fighting a mind-controlled Kuroumaru, making him think Kuroumaru was going easy on him when they were sparring. He feels insulted at the thought that Kuroumaru felt sorry for him and makes his partner swear to not go easy on him again.
  • Draconic Humanoid: The power of Black of Venus turns him into a tailed humanoid with large horns and covered in a scale-like armor.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point: When Dana lets Touta see the darkest point of Yukihime's past, Touta becomes convinced that Yukihime is still at the depths of despair even in his present. From that point on, Touta makes it his main goal to defeat the Lifemaker so Yukihime can become happy. What Touta doesn't get is that Yukihime already learned to enjoy her life again thanks to her time with 3-A. In Chapter 168, seeing Yukihime smile happily as she reminisces her old friends makes Touta understand that he was wrong about Yukihime still being unhappy and just didn't want to realize it because he was afraid he wasn't needed for her happiness.
  • Dream-Crushing Handicap: Played for Laughs. In the second chapter, Touta states one of his dreams is singing back-up for one of his hometown friends at the Neo Olympics. One of the few things he doesn't like about being an immortal stuck in the body of a 12-year-old is that he won't complete puberty and gain a deep, manly voice (kind of important when you want to be a singer in the vein of Louis Armstrong).
  • Dream Walker: Touta unintentionally peeks into Kitty's Flashback Nightmare by touching her head when she's asleep, somehow. She's quite a bit angry with him afterwards.
  • Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: His eyes, usually shown as big black dots with highlights to illustrate his innocence, in times of sadness, become either fully black or hollow circles with dull irises. By the time of the 45 year Time Skip, the latter became his default look, complete with Exhausted Eye Bags which shows the heavy toll of believing all his friends are dead is taking on his psyche. Upon seeing several of the Numbers and especially Kuroumaru, alive again, his eyes return to their usual shape.

    E - K
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: The opening spreads of chapter 1 showed him in a pinstriped hoodie and many pocketed pants with suspenders. The former of which he never wore at all in the manga proper, the latter he only wore once in the chapter.
  • Easily Impressed: Because he lived most of his life in the backwater countryside, he's amazed by about anything new he encounters, especially if it involves magic or techniques like Ki Manipulation. He's also prone to admire people with talents and passions because he doesn't have that himself.
  • Elemental Hair Composition: Like with Negi, using Magia Erebea's spell absorption turns Touta's Shonen Hair into lightning.
  • Elemental Shapeshifter: By drawing all the power of the solar system with his gate to Venus, Touta can transform into a black mass covered in lightning.
  • Emergency Transformation: In the first chapter/episode, a bounty hunter tries to kill Touta by cutting off his arm and stabbing him through the chest. His only means of survival is to drink Yukihime's blood to make himself immortal.
  • Endearingly Dorky: Part of why he's such a Magnetic Hero is his happy go lucky, optimistic sincerity. This, as well as his kindness, are what his friends and admirers find endearing about him.
  • Energy Absorption: He has access to Magia Erebea's spell absorption, but unlike Negi, Touta can't cast his own spells to activate it; he has to absorb someone else's spells.
  • Entitled to Have You: In a sense, towards Yukihime. It's not really that Touta feels like he's entitled to have Yukihime's love as much as he feels entitled to be the only one who can make her happy just because he witnessed firsthand how sad her past is. In Chapter 168, Touta has a breakdown at the realization that Yukihime was already given happiness by Negi and 3-A, becoming afraid that he isn't needed for her happiness. Yukihime comforts Touta and tells him he does matter to her, but he should choose the one he wants to be with out of true love instead of misconceived entitlement.
  • Eternal Love: Touta gains the affections of all the female Numbers who are ageless immortals like him. He takes Kuroumaru and Karin as his lovers and has sex with them, after they reunite 45 years later. The final chapter shows they're still together even after 12 thousand years have passed. He even manages to get together with Yukihime in the end.
  • Excellent Judge of Character: Despite being an Idiot Hero, Touta has a spot-on judge of character. Kuroumaru thinks Touta is gullible for easily trusting suspicious strangers like Jinbei, Santa, and Nikitis, but the people Touta choose to befriend always turn out to be good guys.
  • Extremely Protective Child: He won't forgive anyone who harms his adoptive mother Yukihime. He accepts to become immortal to beat the hell out of the man who had just sliced Yukihime into pieces before his eyes. Just insulting Yukihime is enough for Touta to try and fight the second-strongest mage in the universe, despite knowing he has no chance. His main motivation for defeating the Lifemaker is giving Yukihime some closure for the tragedies the Lifemaker caused in her past so Yukihime can finally be free to move on and be happy.
  • Eyepatch of Power: He gains one over his right eye during the Tournament Arc while he's still healing from the injuries Cutlass inflicted on him. His eye is soon healed by Dana.
  • Failure Knight: For 2 years, he wanders the Earth, helping those he can, all with the guilt of failing to protect his friends at the Space Elevator in his heart. It's later revealed to him, that he did save them with a Heroic Sacrifice. He still wishes he could've been there for them during that time.
  • Father, I Want to Marry My Brother: Yukihime is his adopted mother and Touta outright asks her to marry him after getting a crush on her past self. However, it's implied that was his innocent way of making sure Yukihime can be happy since he got worried about her when he saw the darkest parts of her past. Since Touta is actually four years old, it would make sense he views marriage like a little kid would.
  • First Friend: To Kuroumaru, who grew up in an isolated environment at the immortal hunter clan, and Santa, who was shunned and bullied at school, Touta is their first friend ever. Because of Time Travel, he also befriended Yukihime before she even met anyone in 3-A and Karin.
  • First Love: Thanks to some time travel shenanigans, he actually won Yukihime's heart before Nagi did.
  • Flash Step: He learned the basics ofQuick Move from Yukihime. He gets a more detailed lesson from the martial artist, Kaito.
  • Forgot the Call: 43 years in the future, Touta falls from the sky and lands on Nigeria, Africa. Having lost all of his memories again, Touta takes up a job as a construction worker under the name of Toyota. It takes him a few months to start remembering he's an immortal who was supposed to go to the battle to save the universe from the Lifemaker until Ba'al and his demon forces obstructed UQ Holder's way and bombed the Space Elevator.
  • Freaky Is Cool: What some people may think to be shameful about themselves (Kuroumaru's lack of gender), he thinks is awesome.
  • A Friend in Need: Whenever he gets asked for help by his friends or sees them in any sort of distress, he'll drop whatever he was doing beforehand to offer his assistance.
  • Friend to All Children: As Karin notes, his cheerful nature allows him to get along very well with kids.
  • Friendly Neighborhood Vampire: Touta counts as a vampire because he drank Yukihime's blood, but he's so friendly that even the immortal hunter Kuroumaru didn't like having to fight him.
  • From a Single Cell: His body can regenerate from complete destruction in the matter of seconds. Later on, he manages to consciously spawn and split into clones of himself through his own spilled blood.
  • Genre Savvy: It varies, but he's actually pretty savvy towards a lot of the conventions of Shōnen series. When Dana gives him what seems like a pointless training exercise involving hula hoops and balancing balls, he immediately deduces that this is one of those exercises that's supposed to look pointless and stupid, but really has some hidden special purpose. Dana is actually annoyed that he realized it so quickly. He also seems to have read some harem manga: at one point, he receives a love confession during a heated moment in a battle. When the confessor tries to take it back (by claiming she was just stalling for time), he immediately deduces that the take-back is a lie.
  • Giftedly Bad: For singing, apparently. Trying to sing What A Wonderful World with an early teenage voice isn't the best of ideas.
  • Good Thing You Can Heal: He adapts his fighting style to his Healing Factor quite quickly, allowing himself to take hits that would cripple or kill a mortal in order to create openings he can use.
  • Happily Adopted: While he and Yukihime are shown to have butted heads when they first started living together about two years before the story starts, by the time the story begins, though they still butt heads occasionally, Touta considers Yukihime to be the only family he has.
  • Heal It with Blood: After Kiroumaru inflicts a Wound That Will Not Heal on Kuroumaru's chest that almost cuts Kuroumaru in two, Touta transfuses his blood into Kuroumaru and uses his blood manipulation to put Kuroumaru back together by making his blood circulate inside Kuroumaru with his Revolution.
  • Heal the Cutie: In the 45-year timeskip arc, the guilt of outliving his human friends, outlasting the other Numbers, failing them all, breaks him to the core. After 2 years of wandering with self-loathing as well as Survivor Guilt, Touta is lured into a trap by demons who rub salt on his wounds. The revealed to be still alive, Numbers arrive to his rescue, the sight of them and especially Kuroumaru, brings life back to his eyes. His state further improves when he learns the other Numbers can be rescued. Meeting his still living human friends and watching a recording of his friends thanking him for saving them, renews his confidence. A mutual Love Confession with Kuroumaru and the subsequent consummation, completes the healing.
  • Healing Factor: He can reattach severed limbs or, if the limbs are destroyed outright, regrow them. If a limb is severed and kept away from him without being destroyed, he'll have to go without it, although he later can force the limbs to regrow with no need to recover the missing body part. Vampiric immortality is such that pretty much no wound will kill you and can be regenerated from, but only if the magical flow between limb and body is severed via destruction.
  • The Hero: Touta is a good-natured boy with a heroic character that drives him to help people and fight evil villains.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: He uses a Gravity Sword alongside with his skill in martial arts to fight.
  • Heroic Lineage: His great-grandfather was the hero Nagi Springfield, his great-grandmother was Princess Arika of Ostia, his grandfather was Negi Springfield and his grandmother was Princess Asuna.
  • Heroic Resolve: Touta is being attacked by the Demon Baron Agali Arept who claims that all of the other Numbers have been eliminated and uses Touta's Pactio cards as proof. Touta starts to fall into despair at the thought that all of his friends are really gone and Agali uses the chance to try killing Touta. But since Agali told Touta that Yukihime is holding back the Lifemaker at Pluto, he realizes he can still save her and regains the will to fight.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: After the Time Skip late in the manga, Touta learns that he was missing for 43 years because he turned himself into a giant World Tree as an act of sacrifice to hold the bombed Space Elevator in orbit and save Earth from a global disaster.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: While he's usually cheerful and many praise his countless talents, his "Well Done, Son" Guy complex for Yukihime causes Touta to call himself pathetic and a loser whenever he thinks Yukihime doesn't need him. He also beats himself up over not being able to prevent Kuroumaru from being taken away by the immortal hunters and turned into a divine sword, exclaiming that he's a joke for boasting about saving the world when he can't even save his most precious partner. Even after he learns that he saved the Earth through a Heroic Sacrifice before the Time Skip, he doesn't really believe he could do something that amazing since his amnesia made him think he failed to save the other Numbers for two years.
  • His Quirk Lives On: His new outfit in the Time Skip arc has features which appear to be made in tribute to his, assumed deceased, friends. A long coat like Kuroumaru, hoodie like Santa, boots like Kirie's, and sword slung on his back like Karin. None of them turn out to really be dead, though.
  • Hope Bringer: Touta inspires other immortals to try harder to do good and enjoy life instead of just moping about how much immortality sucks. How he was the one who motivated a young Yukihime to stop wanting to die is the most notable example. Gengorou also points out UQ Holder wasn't the type of organization to care about preventing a big terrorist attack that would kill millions until Touta came along and changed its members' points of view.
  • Human Popsicle: A variation. In the Time Skip arc, Touta spent 43 years trapped inside a World Tree as a result of growing the seed Nikitis planted inside him in order to stop the Space Elevator from falling on Earth.
  • Humble Goal:
    • In the first chapter, his only goal is to leave the village and reach the Space Elevator. In the second chapter, Yukihime is surprised that he no longer has any desire to learn martial arts, since the only reason he was learning in the first place was to earn the right to leave the village. The anime adds its own twist on this by showing that Touta is also doing this because of the words of his visions of Negi (who he doesn't recognize yet at this point).
    • His ultimate goal, as it turns out, is to play backup singer for an unnamed friend in a concert at the top of the elevator. Not the humblest of goals, perhaps, but Yukihime (who is used to epic, sprawling goals involving the fates of entire worlds) certainly finds it a bit pedestrian.
  • Hunk: In contrast to Negi who is a cute little boy and a Bishōnen in his older form, Touta is drawn as a handsome and muscular guy, especially when turned into a young man by aging pills or Black of Venus.
  • Hybrid Monster: He's an artificially created demon made from Negi's DNA that stopped being human long ago as a result of Magia Erebea. He then drinks Yukihime's blood, making Touta a vampire too.
  • Hypocritical Humor: He rejects Mizore when she demands him to become her husband out of the blue, only to be reminded by Kuroumaru about his own abrupt marriage proposal to Yukihime.
  • I Am What I Am: Touta is completely fine with being a freaky immortal monster, especially if it gives him the power he needs to protect those he cares about.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Since he lacks ambition and dreams, he wants to do something huge and become someone important, although he doesn't know how.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: He's enthusiastic to make as many friends as possible. He forces Kuroumaru to become his friend after losing their fight and then he decides to become friends with everyone of UQ Holder despite not knowing anything about them.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Fashionable: He openly wishes Kuroumaru would wear cute dresses all the time. When taking Kuroumaru out on a date, Touta has Kuroumaru dolled up to admire how cute Kuroumaru looks.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Regardless of his own feelings for Yukihime's past self, Touta doesn't really mind that Yukihime is in love with other men since all he cares about is that she can be happy.
  • Identical Grandson: Zigzagged, his colour of skin, eyes and hair are different from those of his grandfather as part of his origin as an imperfect clone and this difference is often noted, however, it is always said that he really is Negi's grandson and he looks a lot like his grandfather did once he uses Magia Erebea's power of absorption, this is specially noted in Chapter 133 when the two fight using Magia Erebea.
  • Identity Amnesia: At the start of the 45-year Time Skip, Touta has lost all memories of who he is. He spends some months living as "Toyota" at Africa, only starting to remember his past months later.
  • Idiot Hair: Not really noticeable due to his dark Shonen Hair, but he has an ahoge similar to Negi's. Because Touta is an Idiot Hero unlike his grandfather, it suits him better.
  • Idiot Hero: In contrast to Negi who was known for being smart, Touta is a reckless idiot who charges into everything without thinking. His plan for everything he does, including joining UQ Holder and reaching the top of the Space Elevator, is "getting there and figure out what to do later". It's pointed out his idiocy would have probably gotten him killed if he wasn't immortal. A lot of this is a result of Yukihime raising him at the country and keeping him ignorant about many things.
  • Ignore the Fanservice: He's pretty much immune to Yukihime's body after years of living with her, and when Karin gets her clothes torn off in Chapter 13, he does not comment on it at all. It gets subverted in later chapters as he starts blushing when he sees girls naked. Yukihime is pleased that Touta is becoming aware of sexuality and now reacts to her naked adult body as a teenage boy should.
  • Immortality: He hasn't aged in two years and can survive quite a bit of abuse now, including regrowing both arms and surviving decapitation. However, even his immortality can be overpowered through weapons made to nullify the magic behind it or high-level spells.
  • Immortality Inducer: Touta's immortality draws upon the entire solar system for power. This is one of the big problems with Fate's plan to replicate Touta's immortality and share it with the rest of humanity. It's not such a big deal when it's only powering one person's immortality, but if it's given to twelve billion people... Touta estimates that doing so would lead to the death of the solar system in two hundred years.
  • Immortal Procreation Clause: Perhaps. He has sex numerous times with Kuroumaru, Karin and Kirie yet none are ever shown having children. While it can be inferred that the immortality of the former two might be a factor, Kirie was a normal girl at the time.
  • Inspirational Martyr: Although he has no memories of it, he inspired all of his allies to keep fighting for 45 years with his choice to sacrifice himself by turning into a World Tree to hold the destroyed Space Elevator in orbit.
  • Instant Armor: Thanks to Nikitis teaching him how to regenerate clothing, Touta can summon a set of full armor that makes him look like a demon or a draconic humanoid with big horns.
  • Instant Expert: In terms of Ki use, Touta is capable of learning any move in a very short amount of time, sometimes just by observing the skill in use.
  • Jumped at the Call: He was excited to leave his village with Yukihime because he already wanted to go to the capital and reach the Space Elevator anyway. A while later, he jumps at the chance of joining UQ Holder just because he wanted more immortal friends.
  • Keet: Very confident and happy-go-lucky.
  • Kid Hero: Touta is physically twelve and really only four years old. He's also The Hero.
  • Kiddie Kid: Touta is supposed to be fourteen, but others comment on how he behaves and thinks like a very young child. This is justified with the reveal that Touta's actual age is four.
  • Knight Errant: Once he returns to Earth after 43 years and recovers his memory, Touta wanders from place to place all alone while helping people in trouble as much as he can until the Numbers find him.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: After Touta reunites with the Numbers in the Time Skip arc, he regains his confidence and optimism, while taking the harsh lessons of his solitary wanderings to heart.

    L - Q
  • Ladykiller in Love: As he slowly gets over his Oblivious to Love issue, he becomes the one who most openly embraces the Springfield's Chick Magnet nature and kinda accepts the perks of having a harem. He even goes along with the polyamorous agreement Kuroumaru, Karin and Kirie made, accepting to have sex with the three of them. Despite that, the one who has the strongest hold on his heart is Kuroumaru as proven when Kuroumaru reveals Touta banged her the most times even though he spent roughly equal time banging Karin and Kirie.
  • Large Ham: Downplayed. Due to Dana's training, he has taken it upon himself to strike Jojoesque poses whenever he regenerates.
  • Literal Split Personality: So that he can compete in the speeder race with his Unwanted Harem, Honoka uses a spell to split Touta into three with each being made of an aspect of his personality (one is cocky, one is carefree, one is gloomy).
  • Living Emotional Crutch:
    • Being by Touta's side and protecting him becomes Kuroumaru's reason for living after being banished from the immortal hunter clan. Even when they're separated for 45 years and several of their companions are taken out by enemies, Kuroumaru could only keep going because she believed Touta would eventually return to her.
    • He was retroactively this to Yukihime/Kitty due to Time Travel shenanigans. Kitty only thought about wanting to die until Touta told her a good future was ahead of her. It's also implied that she tried to carry on no matter how hard things got because she hoped to see Touta again.
    • He becomes one to Karin once they reunite after the Time Skip. His presence helped Karin, who had long passed the Despair Event Horizon from prolonged isolation, to recover.
  • Living Forever Is Awesome: In contrast to Yukihime, he thinks the whole "survive being chopped into a dozen chunks" thing is kinda cool. Though he hasn't lived long enough to grow tired of it.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Yukihime has kept him in the dark about a lot of things involving his origins. Touta is also the only one in UQ Holder who doesn't know Kuroumaru has No Biological Sex and can become a girl later on. He finally finds out when Kuroumaru lets him see their naked body in Chapter 151.
  • Losing Your Head: Kuroumaru decapitates him, assuming that a vampire won't be able to survive that. He gets it back quickly, no worry.
  • Love at First Punch: His first meeting with Kuroumaru has Touta groping a naked Kuroumaru's butt and calling them a girl. In response, Kuroumaru tries to attack Touta with ki blasts from their sword and punches him in the face. Soon after that, they have a fight where Kuroumaru cuts off Touta's head and Touta beats Kuroumaru up so he can force Kuroumaru to become his friend. Kuroumaru harbors painfully obvious feelings for Touta that he's oblivious of until Kuroumaru's Love Confession finally gets through. After that, Touta starts to reciprocate.
  • Love Revelation Epiphany:
    • He starts showing romantic interest in Kuroumaru only after he finally understands that Kuroumaru telling him "I like you" wasn't a declaration between male best buddies, but a (soon-to-be) girl confessing to the boy she has a crush on.
    • When Karin confesses to Touta, that she's in love with him. He's flabbergasted at first, given their rocky history. After giving it some thought and sees Karin's sincerity, he readily reciprocates, happy to have her as a lover.
  • Loving a Shadow: During his training under Dana, Touta runs into and becomes infatuated with a version of Yukihime from the early days of her immortality. When he meets present-day!Yukihime again, Touta declares he wants to marry her. There are many indications that Touta's attraction to Yukihime centers around who she used to be, not the person she is now. Touta himself eventually admits this by telling Kirie he can't let go of Yukihime as long as he thinks her past self might still exist within her. Once Yukihime finally makes it clear to Touta that she's no longer the Kitty he met at Dana's castle, Touta accepts her answer and thanks her.
  • Lucky Seven: He's ranked 7th of the Numbers and he's sure blessed with luck, getting immortality and two of the most powerful abilities in the setting all thanks to his genes.
  • MacGuffin Super-Person:
    • Fate is after Touta, claiming he's the key for his plan to save Negi because he wants to use Touta's successful immortalization results to make every person in the world immortal by scientific means.
    • Being the possessor of the White of Mars makes him the cornerstone of the Big Bad's plan, which is why the Life-Maker's faction wants to capture him.
  • Magnetic Hero: He easily befriends anyone he comes across by being his goofy self or beating them up to then force them to sign a friendship contract. Over time, he starts to only draw other kind of attention from females.
  • Male Frontal Nudity: He arrives in the nude to rescue Karin in chapter 182. His member is clearly outlined in the first panel he appears in.
  • Marked Change: Like Negi, Touta gets dark tattoo marks on his arms when using Magia Erebea.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: While he only meets one in Cutlass, her identity as "Experiment Number 17" shows that he has at least 16 other siblings, and likely a great deal more since there were numerous failed experiments on cloning Negi and Asuna.
  • Master of the Mixed Message: While Yukihime is his top priority, Touta admits to liking all the girls of his Unwanted Harem and many of his actions make his actual feelings come off as unclear.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: After the Time Skip, he finds out Kirie is no longer immortal and she'll be inevitably outlived by him after she grows old. Despite this, Touta, undeterred, affirms his promise to Kirie that he'll love her for the rest of her life, and spends a week as her boyfriend before going to the final battle. In the final chapter, even after 12 thousand years after she passed away, Touta still cares for her.
  • Messianic Archetype: Touta has some traits of this, being the grandson of a god-like figure, immortal, and created with the specific purpose to defeat the ultimate evil mage. He even is friends with his world's version of Judas and tries convincing her that she isn't an irredeemable sinner. After the 45-year Time Skip, Touta becomes a full-blown Messianic figure who inspired his allies with his grand sacrifice to save the Earth from a catastrophe and eventually returned from the heavens to bring back his fallen friends with his miraculous powers. In Karin's case, he arrives to save her from a literally hellish fate.
  • Misery Trigger: Normally, Touta is happy-go-lucky to a fault. The one thing that can instantly get him in a gloomy mood is his adoptive mother Yukihime saying she doesn't need him or Touta finding proof that Yukihime can be happy without him in her life.
  • Missing Reflection: Touta lacks a reflection due to being a vampire. It's what tipped off Kuroumaru about his true nature.
  • Mix-and-Match Man: Touta is an Artificial Human who was created from the combined the genetic material of Negi Springfield and Asuna Kagurazaka, thus he has both Negi's Magia Erebea and Asuna's Magic Cancel that are needed to destroy the Life-Maker. This is exaggerated in the anime-original ending which had Touta turn out to be created using the DNA of all of 3-A including, somehow, the Robot Girl Chachamaru and the Cute Ghost Girl Sayo... The characters admit this is absurd.
  • Momma's Boy: He considers Yukihime his only family and gets easily protective of her whenever someone hurts her or speaks ill of her. People accuse him of having an Oedipus complex, but Touta insists it's a familial thing... Until he develops a crush on a teenage Yukihime.
  • Monster/Slayer Romance: Touta is an immortal demon/vampire who eventually falls in love with Kuroumaru, a former immortal hunter who tried to exterminate him when they first met. They become lovers after Kuroumaru gains the power of an immortal-slaying sword.
  • Mr. Fanservice: He's one of the most good-looking guys in the series and is shown shirtless or completely naked every few chapters.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: One of the many abilities he gains later on is growing extra arms in battle at will.
  • Mundane Utility: His ability to quickly master things gives him excellent culinary skill and great work efficiency at the inn he works. After the timeskip, that also includes sexual prowess.
  • My Greatest Failure: Subverted. Touta crashes into Earth after being missing for 43 years and is made believe by the bad guys that all his allies are dead because he wasn't there to help them, making Touta depressed at the thought that he couldn't protect anyone he cared about. Then, the surviving Numbers find him and reveal Touta just forgot that he sacrificed himself to save the Earth from the collapse of the Space Elevator. He still regrets that he couldn't be there for his friends while they were fighting their enemies for 45 years, especially when he sees how broken up Kuroumaru is about it.
  • Naïve Newcomer: He leaves his village at the country in the first chapter and decides to join UQ Holder a few chapters later. Special mention to Touta not even knowing what the organization is about when he got in.
  • Nerf: Right after Touta masters Magia Erebea and Magic Cancel, the two abilities needed to take out the Lifemaker, the plot undergoes a big Time Skip where Touta awakens 43 years in the future. Then, Touta finds that almost all of his powers and skills have been reset to back to how they were before the trainings he went through. It takes him two years to relearn how to separate and use the magics inside him all over again, but his power level is still far from where he was before the Time Skip. It's explained that this happened because Touta used up a big amount of the solar system's energy empowering him to create a World Tree large enough to hold up the bombed Space Elevator.
  • Nice Guy: While brash and impulsive, Touta at his core is a kindhearted and friendly boy who will help anyone in trouble. He's quite similar to Negi in that. It's also the reason why he has so many girls falling for him.
  • No Guy Wants to Be Chased: Out of his Unwanted Harem, the only girl Touta feels absolutely no attraction to is the extremely aggressive Mizore who directly orders him to marry her right from their first meeting and constantly makes shameless advances at him. In the end, Touta decides he wants to date Kuroumaru, the most timid and romantically passive of his love interests.
  • No-Sell: An immortal hunter places a cross-shaped seal on Touta's body to immobilize him since vampires are supposed to be weak to holy symbols. It does appear to work for a moment, but then Touta's Magia Erebea activates and he's suddenly free to move around despite the cross on his body.
  • Not Growing Up Sucks: His major concern regarding immortality is that he won't grow up, his voice won't deepen, he will never be bald, never get fat and never get wrinkles. To Yukihime's bafflement, who fails to see what's wrong with the last three.
  • Not Quite Flight: He later gains the ability to create floating wheels made of his own blood and attaches them to his feet so he can fly through the sky.
  • The Nudifier: After his training with Dana, Touta's Revolution can blow girls' clothes off, much to Karin's and the Konoe twins' embarrassment.
  • Oblivious to Love: Like Negi before him, there's no way Touta can notice the crushes of the girls around him unless they outright confess to him.
  • Oblivious Transformation: In Chapter 171, Touta's new Super Mode transforms him into a taller, dark-skinned, and more muscular version of himself. When Kuroumaru fails to recognize him, turns out Touta didn't even notice the drastic change in his appearance.
  • Older Than He Looks: After the big Time Skip at the start of the last arcs, Touta is around 50 years old while still looking like a 12-year-old.
  • One-Man Army: With an advanced control over his Magia Erebea, Touta can single-handedly take down entire troops with very little to no effort.
  • One of the Kids: Karin deduces Touta can get along so perfectly with children because he has the mental age of a preschooler. She's right in more than one sense.
  • Only I Can Kill Him: Being possessor of both Magia Erebea and Magic Cancel makes Touta the only one in the universe who can permanently destroy the Lifemaker as the combination of both powers is needed to eliminate the godlike mage's soul before it can Body Surf. Before Touta was born, Negi tried taking out the Lifemaker two times and failed miserably due to lacking Asuna's Magic Cancel.
  • Opposites Attract: Touta is happy-go-lucky, cheeky and rash, while his partner Kuroumaru is demure, self-deprecating and prone to overthinking. In the last stages of the manga, Touta chooses Kuroumaru as the one he likes the most and wants to date.
  • Our Demons Are Different: Initially assumed to be a human-turned-vampire by Yukihime's blood, Touta is in fact an artificially created Magia Erebea demon that was cloned from Negi's DNA and made immortal through some unspecified Magitek means.
  • Our Phlebotinum Child: He's effectively Negi and Asuna's child due to being made from their DNA.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: He was turned into a vampire by Yukihime, whose vampirism is an imitation of the real High Daylight Walkers. He has sharp fangs and Missing Reflection, and he can make other people into his vampire followers by biting them and sucking their blood, as seen when he does it with Kuroumaru in Chapter 170. Still, Touta doesn't have any typical vampire traits since sunlight doesn't bother him and he never gets cravings for blood, which Touta himself notes as weird.
  • Parental Incest: Yukihime is the only parental figure he's ever had and from early on, people suspect his attachment to her isn't a purely familial thing. Touta vehemently denies it... only to ask Yukihime to marry him many chapters later. This is, however, Played With since it's less that Touta is in love with Yukihime for being his adoptive mother and more that he's pining after the younger version of her he met at Dana's castle. Before knowing Kitty, the only time he got flustered over Yukihime was when he saw her in her child form.
  • Peerless Love Interest: To Kuroumaru. Touta is kind-hearted, friendly, good-looking, ridiculously gifted enough to master high-level techniques in short time, immensely popular, and descended from the most famous heroes in their world. Compared to all that, Kuroumaru feels like a worthless nobody. Kuroumaru describes Touta as "too radiant to look at" and is ashamed of even having a crush on Touta because wishing love from someone so out of your league is disgraceful, so Kuroumaru focuses on protecting Touta while refusing to pursue him romantically.
  • Pinball Protagonist: Particularly in the early parts of the manga, Touta is kept completely in the dark by Yukihime about anything going on and has no personal interest in fighting nor a set goal besides climbing the Space Elevator one day. In every arc, Touta is essentially reacting to situations he's dropped into, like being sent in missions by UQ Holder, dealing with people trying to kidnap him and getting trained by someone who just happens to want to make him stronger. He does eventually want to save the world from the Mage of the Beginning, but only after circumstances forced him to see how much trouble Ialda has caused for the Negima characters, especially Yukihime, and he never confronts Ialda directly unless she comes after him.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: After he manages to retrieve Kuroumaru from the immortal hunters and snap Kuroumaru out of a brief fall into insanity, Touta makes Kuroumaru promise him to never leave him behind without considering his feelings ever again.
  • Power Copying: He can learn any technique and skill he sees once, and master it in no time. Lampshaded by Nikitis, who thinks it's fitting for a clone to only know how to get abilities by imitating what others do.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: Magia Erebea can change Touta's hair color from nearly black to white, much like it did for Negi.
  • Power Gives You Wings: He sprouts a pair of wing-like protrusions when using Magia Erebea.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: Like Negi, at times where Touta uses Magia Erebea, his hair becomes longer than his body and it also turns into energy/lightning about halfway down.
  • Protectorate: Kuroumaru prioritizes protecting Touta over dating him.

    R - Z
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The energetic, boastful and extroverted Red Oni to Kuroumaru's passive, insecure and introverted Blue Oni.
  • Roaring Rampage of Rescue: After he sees Kuroumaru being taken away by the immortal hunters, Touta flies all across a continent in Inverse Mars until he arrives at Kuroumaru's home country Tougen. He then proceeds to utterly crush anyone who gets in his way to take his partner back.
  • The Runaway: He runs away from UQ Holder headquarters after he's denied permission to enter the Mahora Tournament. He still manages to get involved in the preliminaries. After his training with Dana is over, Touta returns to the headquarters so he can propose to Yukihime.
  • Same Surname Means Related: He has the same family name as Konoka Konoe, but whether he's a relative of hers remains unclear for quite some time. The Konoe twins do call him their brother, though. According to Yukihime's flashback, a descendant of Konoka acted as his surrogate mother.
  • School Uniforms are the New Black: He rarely wears anything but the school uniform from his village and can't put on other clothes without feeling uncomfortable.
  • Self-Duplication: After training with Nikitis, Touta becomes able to create clones of himself through his blood. The clones are all made from a portion of Touta's power, so the more clones he makes, the weaker they all become.
  • Sex God: If Kuroumaru's blissful state in the afterglow of Their First Time, Karin's arousal while in the throes of pleasure, and certain comments by Kirie are to go by, he's apparently an excellent lay. Also counts for Vampires Are Sex Gods since Yukihime shared some of her vampirism with him.
  • Sexier Alter Ego:
    • When he takes aging pills for his date with Yukihime, Kuroumaru gets a nosebleed from merely seeing Touta's hot older form and asks Kirie to save a recording of the aged up Touta.
    • In Chapter 171, Touta gains a new Super Mode that transforms him into a hunky, shirtless dark-skinned blond young man. Kuroumaru can't help to comment on how handsome Touta looks in his new form.
  • Sexual Karma: Touta being a kindhearted boy is what makes every cute girl who meets him want to join his Unwanted Harem. In the 45 years later arc, Touta continues doing good and refuses to going the bad guys' side even when he's in a state of depression because of thinking he lost everything. This earns him a reunion shortly followed by sex with the surviving members of his harem, starting with his Living Emotional Crutch Kuroumaru.
  • Shameless Fanservice Guy: Touta has zero problems with being naked in general. For instance, he gets blasted naked by a Bolt of Divine Retribution while forming a Pactio with Karin and then acts like it was nothing to be embarrassed about.
  • Shared Family Quirks: Many believe his charm with women is genetic. Though nowhere near Negi (who had at least 20 girls fall for him) and Nagi (who had a fanclub with at least 96,077 members), he manages to get at least 6 people interested in him in the first 100 chapters.
  • Shirtless Scene: He has lost his shirt numerous times, usually as a result of Clothing Damage.
  • Shonen Hair: He has spiky dark brown hair like many stereotypical shounen protagonists.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: By the 45-year timeskip, he has ditched his school uniform in favor of new battle garb.
  • Sleep Cute: With Kuroumaru after Their First Time in chapter 181. He even lets a naked Kuroumaru use his own nude body as a bed of sorts.
  • Sleeps in the Nude: Does this on occasion, due to his nonchalance towards nudity. Like the aftermath of his pactio with Karin, as well as the afterglow of Their First Time with Kuroumaru and Kirie, respectively.
  • Smarter Than You Look: He usually acts like a carefree and simpleminded Idiot Hero, but he is also quick to learn various techniques and is surprisingly knowledgeable about a great deal of things such as understanding Kitty's explanation as being similar to centrifugal force, or being able to tell that a giant insect was from the Carboniferous Period at a glance.
  • Sole Survivor: In the 45 years later arc, Touta is told by the Demon Barons that he's the only Number who they haven't killed yet. Of course, this is subverted when the other Numbers show up and reveal they were merely hiding until Touta came back.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Due to romanization differences, his given name can be spelled Tota, Tōta or Touta. The official translation opts for the "o with a bar" technique.
  • Spin Attack: To be able to tap into the mixture of Mutually Exclusive Magics in his body he essentially has to become a living centrifuge by spinning hoops around his waist.
  • Spin-Offspring: He's part of the Konoe family and Negi is his "grandfather". In truth, he's an artificially made son of Negi and Asuna. Despite being a clone, he was actually born naturally with one of Konoka's descendants as his surrogate mother.
  • Stock Shōnen Hero: Unlike Negi, Touta is a clear-cut example of this. He's a brash, impulsive Kid Hero, is obsessed with making friends, is an Instant Expert, is powered by his wish to protect those dear to him, has both Magia Erebea and Magic Cancel which are the two greatest powers in the setting and eventually sets on trying to surpass his legendary grandfather. That said, unlike many examples of this trope who believe strongly in Chronic Hero Syndrome, he concedes Gengorou's point that going out of his way to save strangers will lead to a precedent where he can never stop.
  • Story-Breaker Power:
    • After his training with Nikitis, Touta can draw infinite supply of energy from the solar system and turn into a totally unstoppable force. This results in him delivering a Curb-Stomp Battle on strong enemies that normally wouldn't have been defeated so easily like Fate and the immortal hunters.
    • Besides Magia Erebea, Touta has Magic Cancel that can nullify all magic. Due to its hax properties, he doesn't master it until right before the 45-year Time Skip arc where Touta's Magic Cancel is the key to start getting rid of the magic seals that were placed on his immortal friends while he was missing.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike:
    • According to Yukihime, not everyone would come up with the idea "I'm immortal, let's use it to help the world", but sure enough, Touta and his grandfather, Negi, both arrived at this idea.
    • His plan to defeat the Mage of the Beginning is essentially the same his father used to defeat Ialda in the Golden Ending timeline of Negima, if a tad more unpolished (strike Ialda at the heart, use time stop to prevent her from possessing him, destroy her using Magic Cancel and revive the host using a healing spell/potion).
  • Super Mode: By opening his body's gate to Venus, Touta has access to infinite store of magic. The first time he fully channelizes this energy source, Touta turns into what is basically a dark-skinned version of Negi's Raiten Taisou and his power becomes comparable to that of the Shinso vampires that are deemed Physical Gods.
  • Superpower Lottery: Being born with Magia Erebea and Magic Cancel makes him a big winner. After his training with Nikitis where he learns how to power himself with the energy of the solar system, Touta becomes so ridiculously overpowered that the only ones who have a chance to keep up with him are the High Daylight Walkers and the Lifemaker, who are basically Physical Gods.
  • Supreme Chef: Everyone who tastes Touta's cooking loves it.
  • Survivor Guilt: Touta spends two years wracked with guilt and regret after he's made believe that all his human and immortal friends have died or been killed during the 43 years where he was missing. He's relieved when he finds out all of the Numbers are still alive or can be brought back by his Magic Cancel. While he mourns the loss of the humans he did outlive, he feels blessed enough to have the Numbers back, especially Kuroumaru.
  • Teacher/Student Romance: Yukihime was Touta's homeroom teacher for 2 years. Many chapters later, he proposes marriage to her. However, Yukihime was no longer his teacher and Touta only started showing attraction to her after meeting a younger version of her at a Place Beyond Time. However, this is subverted as Yukihime turns him down and Touta doesn't even love Yukihime romantically anyway.
  • Tears of Joy: He cries out of happiness when he has a 45-year reunion with Kuroumaru and also with Kirie a bit later.
  • Thanks for the Mammary: He gets thrown into the hot springs when Karin and Kirie are taking a bath, resulting in Touta's hands falling on one of both girls' breasts.
  • They Just Dont Get It: Ikkuu and Jinbei convince him that he needs to go "all the way" with Kirie during their trip to Kyoto. Kirie is told the same thing by Karin (everyone in UQ Holder is shipping them pretty hard). When the two are using an outdoor bath in their hotel room, he tells her he's going to go all the way with her (both of them are naked), and... he just kisses her. When she gets confused, he tells her he thought that kissing in a romantic context was going "all the way". In the very next scene, she tries to explain what sex is through a flower metaphor. He doesn't get it. She then explicitly tells him what it is. He still doesn't really get it. She puts on some porn. He (apparently) finally gets it.
  • Think Unsexy Thoughts: Touta and Kirie need to hug for three hours straight to make her Pactio and Touta is so nonchalant during the whole thing that Kirie thinks he mustn't find her attractive. Touta then answers he does think Kirie is cute, but keeps himself unshaken in provocative situations by recalling his Training from Hell with the hula hoops that stopped his heart. He tries to do the same when a naked female Kuroumaru hugs him. It does work for a moment until kissing the naked Kuroumaru is too much for his man parts to not react. Luckily for Touta, Kuroumaru is pleased to see him getting hard for her.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: He proclaims he can't ever forgive the Tougen Shinmei School that shunned and banished Kuroumaru for having a cursed immortal body.
  • Time-Travel Romance: He gets himself involved in a particularly convoluted one during his training with Dana. Because Dana's castle is separated from the space-time continuum, Touta meets a younger version of Yukihime who calls herself Kitty. Touta immediately becomes infatuated with Kitty and inadvertently becomes her First Love despite being adopted mother and son in the present. Things get complicated because Kitty can only be transported to Touta's time when Dana falls asleep and the time spans between their short meetings are much longer for Kitty than they are for Touta (to Touta it's only been one day, while for Kitty several years have passed). Knowing Kitty was suffering in the past and still feeling attached to her younger self, Touta tries to pick up the romance with present-day!Yukihime. Yukihime turns him down because she can't move on with anyone else as long as she loves Negi, but Touta continues to pine after past!Yukihime.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: During his first encounter with Cutlass, Touta learns he isn't Negi's grandson as he had been told, but his clone.
  • Took a Level in Badass: He undergoes a big upgrade after his training with the High Daylight Walker Nikitis. Once Touta gains full mastery over Magia Erebea, he can grow a Prehensile Tail and extra arms at will, as well as create clones of himself with his blood. To show off his new power level, he goes to deliver a humiliating Curb-Stomp Battle to Fate and his minions.
  • Transflormation: He spends 43 years as a World Tree in order to stop the Space Elevator from crashing on Earth. He could only be freed when he sprouted out of a seed.
  • Understanding Boyfriend: Most of his potential love interests have something they're ashamed of like being a persecuted mass murderer, having No Biological Sex, being unable to go through puberty, or being the most infamous traitor in history. Touta always takes it in stride and tries giving them emotional support.
  • Undressing the Unconscious: After an exhausted and filthy Touta passes out at Kirie's bedroom, Sept strips him naked while ordering Kuroumaru, Kirie, and Karin to strip too so they can bathe the unconscious Touta.
  • Unresolved Sexual Tension: He gets some tension with Kuroumaru in the latest parts of the manga. Touta feels attracted to Kuroumaru's girly side and expresses interest in dating Kuroumaru, but Kuroumaru stops his attempts at getting closer because Kuroumaru is too embarrassed to admit to wanting that kind of relationship with Touta. Soon after their 45-year reunion, they finally resolve all tension between them by admitting their feelings for each other and having sex.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: He can fight pretty well and picks up various abilities rather quickly, but doesn't know how to wield a sword skillfully or use fine applications of his power. When he takes a swing at a giant boulder, he destroys it, but his dissatisfied expression implies he was trying to cut it in half.
  • Un-Sorcerer: He is physically incapable of using magic apps. It turns out that he has an unnatural combination of Light (Magic Cancel) and Dark (Magia Erebea) magic within him that cancel each other out. It's why he can't use magic and it's how Past!Evangeline deduces that he's an Artificial Human.
  • Unwanted Harem: Like Negi before him, Touta gets Kirie, Shinobu, and Mizore vying for his affection without even trying. Kuroumaru and Karin also have an attraction for him that they suppress for a long time. He was also Yukihime's First Love, but her present-day self is pining after his grandfather.
  • Vampires Are Sex Gods: When he has sex with Kuroumaru, Karin, and Kirie, he not only had sex with each of them multiple times, he left all three very satisfied with the experience.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Gender-Inverted. A very easy way to piss Touta off is laying a hand on his partner Kuroumaru. The first time he activated Magia Erebea was in order to protect Kuroumaru from Kaito. When Kuroumaru is taken away by the immortal hunters, Touta awakens a new Super Mode with the sole purpose of rescuing Kuroumaru, crushes every immortal hunter on his path, and goes ballistic after he sees Kuroumaru was transformed into a sword. To sum it up, anyone who messes with Kuroumaru will have hell to pay.
  • Walking the Earth: In the Time Skip arc, he spends two years wandering the Earth in a melancholic state with nothing else to live for other than saving Yukihime who is stuck in Pluto.
  • Wardrobe Malfunction: Touta arrives at Karin's location, lightyears away from the solar system, sans clothes. Karin asks why he's naked and he explains the hyperspeed travel ripped of the bodysuit he was wearing beforehand.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Yukihime telling Touta that she doesn't need him makes him terribly depressed and he's afraid that she thinks less of him than Negi and Nagi. From that point on, Touta's main goal is doing anything he can to get Yukihime to acknowledge him and make her happy, including asking her to marry him and saving the world from the Lifemaker for her. At the end of it, though, he only wants to prove to himself that Yukihime does need him and when he gets evidence that Yukihime can become happy without him, he feels worthless. Touta gets some closure on this issue in Chapter 168 where Yukihime at last makes clear to Touta that he doesn't need to feel obligated to make her happy and he's someone important and needed by her.
  • What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: Touta proclaims to love and wanting to be there for the girls in his Unwanted Harem (except Mizore), even asking Yukihime to marry him so she never ends up alone again. However, it sure seems like he can't tell how romantic love is supposed to be different from love for family and friends. This might be justified because he's an Artificial Human who only has two years worth of memories with his adopted mom and friends at the countryside. The most notable case is how Touta openly states Kuroumaru is someone he likes a lot and naturally wants by his side, but he thought of it as a BFF thing. He fails to understand Kuroumaru's Love Confession twice due to this. He eventually gets a handle on it when he takes Kuroumaru out on a date shortly after Yukihime asks him who he likes the most.
  • What You Are in the Dark:
    • In Chapter 106, with time frozen for everyone except him and Kirie, she finds him coming upon Yukihime, whose shirt buttons just popped, exposing her cleavage. Kirie thinks Touta will try to do something indecent to Yukihime. All Touta does is cover her exposed chest with his jacket.
    • When the Demon Barons give him the offer to join their cause, despite being at the lowest point of his life, he musters enough willpower to refuse them.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: He earnestly believes immortality is a blessing and that he can save the world with it. This earns him contempt from those like Karin, who have lived hundreds of years in misery, calling Touta a naïve fool. Touta, however, insists that other immortals simply gave up on being happy too easily.
  • Would Hit a Girl: He says Yukihime taught him gender makes no difference on the battlefield, and for good reason. One example was when he punched Cutlass in the face during their battle at the Mahora Martial Arts Tournament.
  • Yin-Yang Bomb: He is a failed attempt at creating one by infusing mutually exclusive Light and Dark magic in one person. His Training from Hell with Dana helps make him a proper one. The first time he ends up using this power the cracked ground takes the form of a Taijitsu, making it a literal version of the trope.
  • You Killed My Father: Subverted. When Fate claims to have killed Touta's parents, Touta swears he will make Fate pay for it. However, the issue is never given attention ever since, probably because Touta doesn't remember his parents so their deaths aren't enough of a motivation for him. Besides, the fact that he's a clone of Negi means he surely never had parents in the real sense.
  • You Leave Him Alone!: He either gains or reactivates his vampirismnote  when a bounty hunter attempts to capture Yukihime and kill his friends. He drinks her blood, regenerates and fights off the bounty hunter.
  • Younger Than He Looks: His official UQ Holder record lists him as being born in 2082, which makes Touta not a teenager, but a 4-year-old. This is because he's an Artificial Human created to kill the Mage of the Beginning.

    Gravity Blade

Gravity Blade / Kurobo

Voiced by: Ryota Takeuchi (JP), Jack Ivy (EN)

Touta's main weapon. The Gravity Blade is a sword created by the gravity mage Albireo Imma. It is found by Touta in the underground cave beneath UQ Holder's headquarters.

  • BFS: Touta eventually gains the ability to transform the Gravity Blade into a replica of the large sword Ensis Exorcizans to channel his White of Mars.
  • Black Swords Are Better: Its blade is colored black.
  • Cool Sword: The Gravity Blade is a black katana that is able to alter the effect gravity has on it. It can be rendered completely weightless for effortless wielding, or it can increase its own mass to insane levels, giving it enormous striking power. The highest setting Touta has used thus far is the "10,000x" gravity multiplier, giving the sword an apparent weight of 500 tons. It was created by Albireo Imma, a master of gravity magic.
  • Excalibur in the Stone: Parodied. Touta finds it impaled in a stone at what looks like Albireo Imma's old residence. Jinbei stated the sword belonged to any who could pull it out, but no one has been able to. Turns out the sword has a weight-modifying dial that had been set to several tons. Touta just has to turn it back down, and the sword slides right out.
  • Gravity Master: It can manipulate gravity to change its weight according to its dial.
  • I Call It "Vera": Touta names the Gravity Blade "Kurobo" after he learns it can talk.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: It's a katana.
  • Morph Weapon: Later on, the Gravity Sword can change its form depending on Touta using Black of Venus or White of Mars while wielding it.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Touta nicknames the Gravity Blade "Kurobo/Sidestick" the moment he learns it can talk. The Gravity Blade claims to have a formal name, but Touta isn't interested in hearing it.
  • Talking Weapon: After over 50 chapters of being wielded by Touta, the sword turns out to be capable of speech, but doesn't reveal this until Touta is speaking to it when nobody else is around. In the anime, however, Touta finds it because he heard it talk.
