Anubis (12th + Miss Congeniality)*

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/anubis.jpeg

Age: 19
From: Brighton, East Sussex, England

"The queen of the pyramids has arrived, but, darling, I ain't no Giza."

  • Age Is Relative: She's definitely something of an old soul, and her Grande Dame-esque diction and turn of phrase suggests someone much older than 19 — much like fellow Brightonian Joe Black, a similarly stately queen. In a podcast with her fans, Anubis joked that people assume she's at least 77.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: She and Krystal are a tender 19 years old at the time of filming and along with Scaredy Cat of UK Series 1, represent the three youngest queens to perform in a Drag Race UK series. Across the franchise, only Morrigan (Thailand S1) and Jota Carajota (España S2) are younger at 18 at the time of filming.
  • Dedication: She chose the drag name Anubis to honour her late father, who was from Egypt.
  • Fish People: Portrays a squid-girl for her Favourite Thing (category: sea creatures) runway look, with hair designed to resemble a squid's mantle, along with inky make up. Whilst the on-screen version doesn’t land, her social media recreation (incorporating tentacle-like sleeves) was...much bettah.
  • Graceful Loser: Accepts her loss with dignity, though she does wryly acknowledge the “Curse of Brighton” in her mirror message, in reference to her being the second Brightonian queen, following Joe Black in Series 2, to leave the competition first.
  • History Repeats: As per Series 2, the Brighton queen is sadly the first to sashay away in the premiere.
  • Informed Attribute: In practically all of her confessionals, she declares how "camp" both she and her drag are, but this never really comes over in her performance, especially when compared to queens like Kitty who are camp simply standing still.
  • Only One Name: Usually, she goes by "Anubis Finch", but in the competition, she's simply "Anubis".
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: Takes her drag name from the ancient Egyptian God of Death and the Underworld due to her English-Egyptian heritage (her late father was Egyptian, her mother English). When all of the queens come Back for the Finale to congratulate the top 3, she portrays a glamorously dragged-up take on her namesake, the jackal-headed god himself, with her wig styled as Anubis’ large ears.
  • Sexy Whatever Outfit: For her Queen of Your Hometown look, she personifies the venerable candy-striped helter-skelter from the Brighton Palace Pier, complete with hair styled like a Mr. Whippy ice cream.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: She's both the earliest-out (coming dead last) and the youngest ever Miss Congeniality (at just 19 at the time of filming) across the entire franchise, which makes the accolade even more impressive.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Anubis may be young, but at 6'4", she's the tallest contestant this series. She towers over the 5'2" Elektra during their lip sync.
  • Wearing a Flag on Your Head: She sports a cape-themed ensemble patterned after the Egyptian flag for her entrance look.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: After a middling to poor showing on the runway in episode 1 (her My Favourite Thing look — themed after "sea creatures" — was just a bronze gown with some netting chucked over it) she finds herself in the bottom two against Elektra, whose absolutely banging lip-sync performance sends her packing.

Elektra Fence (11th)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elektra_9.jpeg

Age: 29
From: Burnley, Lancashire, England

"Alright huns, whack that kettle on. She's gaspin'. Oh, yeah!"

  • Ascended Meme: Her drag name derives from a video taken of her — that soon went viral — where she accidentally zapped herself on an electric fence and was blasted off her petite feet, landing in cow shit. The video formed part of her introductory confessional when she arrived in the Werk Room.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Finding herself in the bottom two with Anubis in episode 1, Elektra explodes onto the runway with a succession of hyper-energized splits, flips and drops that leaves Anubis' much more stately performance languishing in her dust.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: In a post-elimination interview, Elektra revealed that she was possibly disqualified for jumping off stage during her lip-sync against Vanity, as apparently Ru and production expressly told her not to. In Drag Race herstory, only Sahara Davenport and Kennedy Davenport have attempted such a risky maneuver.
  • Facial Dialogue: She's a highly expressive queen who serves a hilarious Reaction Shot, especially if she's being read.
  • Foreshadowing: Having snatched the win in the premiere, Krystal is gifted with the opportunity to provide her fellow queens with a performance review in the Rupermarket Sweep mini-challenge of episode 2, and designates Elektra the "BOGOF" queen — the queen most likely to be eliminated next — which proves prescient when Elektra is eliminated later that same episode.
  • Fun Size: Standing at a very petite 5'2", she's amongst the shortest (if not the shortest) queens across the Drag Race franchise, and she's known as the "Pocket-Rocket" of London drag.
  • It Only Works Once: Her first lip-sync was a smashing success, in which she pulled out mind-boggling dance moves and went full-throttle the entire time. She takes a similar approach for her second lip-sync, but her wild intensity (and breakdancing) to M People's slower-paced "Moving On Up" confuses the judges as opposed to delighting them, and she ends up going home.
  • Keet: In and out of drag, she's an adorable bundle of energy.
  • Oop North: Like fellow Series 3 competitors, Veronica and Charity, she also hails from Lancashire and cites classic "Northern warrior women" such as Julie "Bet Lynch" Goodyear and Jane McDonald as her drag inspiration. For her Queen of Your Hometown look, her mining-themed outfit takes inspiration from Lancashire's "pit brow lasses" — female surface labourers at British collieries whose job was to remove rocks from freshly mined coal.
  • Pintsize Powerhouse: She's a pocket-sized queen who (adorably) has trouble reaching the mirror to wipe away Anubis' farewell message, but in a lip-sync battle, she's a force to be reckoned with, unleashing a whirlwind of flips, splits and shablams and even a stage dive into a scissor-split during her battle with Vanity.
  • Youthful Freckles: She's a very fair-skinned blond, and sports prominent freckles across her chest, shoulders and face which, as she tearfully recounts in episode 2, invited mean-spirited bullying in her younger years, with some kids labelling her as having a "skin disease". Thankfully, it's a feature of hers that she's grown to love.

Victoria Scone (10th / departed)*

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/victoria.jpeg

Age: 27
From: Cardiff, South Glamorgan, Wales

"Hell hath no fury like a woman... sconed."

  • After-Action Healing Drama: She serves a fierce winners' lip-sync to fellow Welshy Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" in episode 1, but fucks her knee up during a dramatic runway slide, which hampers her performance in episode 2 and leaves her place in the competition hanging in the balance...
  • Big Beautiful Woman: Both in and out of drag.
  • Big Entrance: Victoria is amongst the last to strut into the Werk Room on day one, and her arrival is embraced as a seminal moment by her fellow assembled queens, who firstly all gasp at her gorgeous, Mae West-inspired sequins and feathers look, and then explode into whooping cheers in celebration of her being the first cisgender woman to compete on any version of Drag Race.
    Kitty: History is being made!
  • Brits Love Tea: For her My Favourite Thing look in episode 1, she sports an outfit designed around a tiered china cake-stand in celebration of her favourite pastime — traditional afternoon tea.
  • Career-Ending Injury: Victoria sustains a bad knee injury after performing a dramatic runway slide during her lip-sync against Krystal in the premiere, which keeps her off her feet in episode 2 and sees her sent home on doctor's orders prior to episode 3.
  • Clothing-Concealed Injury: For episode 2's Red Carpet Showstopper runway theme, her floor-length dress hides the fact that she's wearing trainers due to her injured knee. She even revealed on Twitter that this look was essentially a backup — she couldn't have worn her originally intended look with trainers.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: She's very taken with Oti Mabuse, a beautiful South African professional dancer from Strictly Come Dancing, who acts as a guest judge and choreographer for episode 2's Dragaton challenge.
  • Edible Theme Clothing: Sadly, she had to bow out of the competition just prior to the Happy Campers runway of episode 3 (a very on-brand challenge for her) though she shared her proposed runway on Instagram — a gingham picnic table-themed look complete with two giant Scotch eggs over her boobs, Scotch egg earrings, and a Carmen Miranda-style hair arrangement of picnic goodies.
  • Edible Theme Naming: As well as being a pun on "Victoria's gone", she wanted a drag-name that was "very British" (you can't get more British than a scone, or the queenly name Victoria) with an edible theme, in celebration of her curves.
  • Flower Motifs: For her Queen of Your Hometown look in episode 1, she sports a beautiful daffodil-themed ensemble in celebration of Wales' national flower and is highly praised for her efforts.
  • Gender Is No Object: When the girls de-drag for the first time in episode 1, Anubis politely asks her if she's ok doing so surrounded by "a gender different from yours". Victoria explains that having been involved in theatre from a young age, she's completely used to it and it never occurs to her. In any case, she notes, they're all human beings, so who cares?
  • Hope Springs Eternal: Having left the competition on doctor's orders, Ru implies that she'll be welcome back when the time's right.
  • Non-Gameplay Elimination: On the recommendation of the show's doctors, Victoria leaves the series prior to episode 3 due to an injured knee that renders her incapable of continuing the competition safely.
  • Pantomime: She counts theatrical costuming and the venerable institution of the classic British panto as her key drag inspirations, and her glamorous, Camp aesthetic is very much inspired by traditional drag, especially older Welsh queens like Ceri Dupree, and the legendary Anglo-Irish queen and British drag Trope Codifier, Danny LaRue.
  • Punny Name: "Victoria's gone", in reference to the transformation into her drag persona, though the pun rests on how one pronounces 'scone' (scON or scOHn), which can differ throughout the UK and wider Anglosphere.
  • Stiff Upper Lip: She badly injures her knee in the premiere, which she knows will ruin her chances in the competition, but resolutely attempts to carry on in episode 2, and approaches her predicament in a very calm, matter-of-fact manner.
  • Weight Woe: Having snatched the win in the premiere, Krystal is gifted with the opportunity to provide her fellow queens with a performance review in the Rupermarket Sweep mini-challenge of episode 2, and designates Victoria the "Star Buy", AKA her biggest competition. Unfortunately, it's something of a Backhanded Compliment, as Krystal also frames "biggest" as a read on Victoria's curvier build. Victoria, hurt by this, invites Krystal for a mirror-time chat and explains that in her younger years, she suffered from bulimia due to the pressure of being a dancer. With Sudden Humility, Krystal acknowledges her insensitivity and apologises.
  • Whole Costume Reference: When all of the queens come Back for the Finale to congratulate the top 3, Victoria sports a beautifully fitted white satin gown with huge red tulle sleeves and a vast multi-layered tulle train, which was directly inspired by a gown her icon Liza Minnelli wore in New York, New York.

Veronica Green (9th)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/veronica_4.jpeg

Age: 35
From: Rochdale, Lancashire, England

"Oof, what's that sickening feeling? Oh, yeah, it's déjà Ru!"

  • Amazing Technicolor Population: In keeping with her drag surname, she sports green face and body-paint accompanying her Golden Age of Hollywood entrance look, in what is also a Shout-Out to Wicked — a musical she notes she wishes she could take part in.
  • The Bus Came Back: After the COVID-19 Pandemic shut down production on Series 2 for 7 months, Veronica tested positive for the disease once production was allowed to start again and thus had to bow out of the competition under the COVID-19 protocols at the time. She was then given a free invitation for Series 3, which she graciously accepted.
  • Call-Back: She's the first queen to enter the silent Werk Room, and quips, "Veronica's Drag Race; it's dead boring," in a cheeky nod to Sister Sister's catty critique of her performance back in Series 2.
  • Covert Pervert: Veronica's general persona is that of a charming, inoffensive geek, but when asked in a confessional if she's taken part in "group activities", she can only blush and burst into laughter.
  • Endearingly Dorky: Part of Veronica's charm is her unapologetic geekiness, and the fact that in confessionals she's dressed like a cute little archetypal nerd in glasses, braces and a neat bow-tie.
  • A Friend in Need: Veronica provides advice and assistance to less experienced queens such as River and Krystal during the Happy Campers design challenge. Unfortunately, her plan for her own outfit is an ambitious undertaking, and taking time off to help other girls leaves less time for herself. This results in her elimination.
  • Heroic Fatigue: Following her elimination, Veronica shared a very personal, candid message on Instagram, in which she details the physical, mental and financial hardships she endured following her departure from Series 2. She goes on to explain that, in hindsight, she feels she shouldn’t have accepted Ru’s offer to return to the series, as she feels she wasn’t fully in the right head-space to do so, but gave it her all nonetheless.
  • Leatherman: For the Tinder-inspired Findhr mini-challenge, the girls are challenged with parodying super-masc straight men, and in general they all dress as expected as builders, lorry drivers etc — except Veronica, who apparently doesn't get the memo, and pulls on a leather-queen harness....which provokes a hilariously disturbed Eye Take from Kitty.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: After she was necessarily compelled to leave Series 2, having received a positive COVID-19 diagnosis during the filming break, Ru promised her she could return — an opportunity she naturally leapt at.
  • Negated Moment of Awesome: Veronica's return to the series was highly-anticipated by Drag Race UK fans, as her great performance in Series 2 was unceremoniously cut-short by the Covid-19 pandemic, which always felt unfair for a well-liked, plucky queen like her. However, despite a good deal of excited build-up prior to her return, and her being pegged as a frontrunner, in practise (and likely due to her not being fully in the right headspace, as she later admitted), her performance the second time around in the competition faltered, and she bowed out in 9th place.
  • Oop North: She's a Lancashire lass from Rochdale and is joined this series by two additional fellow Lancastrians, Charity Kase and Elektra Fence. For her Queen of Your Hometown look in episode 1, she celebrates Rochdale's historic cotton mill industry — which allowed it to become one of the world's earliest fully industrialised towns — with a cute black and white, cotton wool-covered look complete with two large cotton puffs on either side of her head, evoking Nice Mice cuteness.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: She returned to the competition with vigor, having had to bow out of Series 2, but never really hits her stride, often getting in her own head and finding it hard to stand out against what is a very competent group of queens. As she explains just prior to her elimination, the COVID-19 Pandemic hit her hard, and she suffered from depression, so it's perhaps a good thing, from a wellbeing point of view, that she bowed out gracefully early on, before the pressure increased further.
  • Please Put Some Clothes On: While rehearsing for the Dragaton challenge in the episode 2, Veronica wears a unitard with very tight shorts that end up riding up and outlining her crotch — to the horror of Kitty and River.
  • Proud to Be a Geek: For her My Favourite Thing runway of episode 1, she fully embraces her geeky side and sports a gamer-themed ensemble complete with a Space Clothes outfit and joypad accessory.
  • Rummage Sale Reject: For the Campfire Couture runway of episode 3, she seemingly grabs every scrap of fabric she can find and crafts it into some sort of post-nuclear butterfly ensemble. She also paints half her face black, as well as her hands, symbolizing, as she explains it, coming out of depression. Unfortunately the judges find the whole concept a confusing, disparate mismatch, and she lands in the bottom against Vanity, who ultimately sends her home.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: She paints great face, and her drag transformation is amongst this series' most dramatic. Veronica herself states that she's much prettier in drag than out of it, where she's something of a Lovable Nerd.
  • So Last Season: Queens who are invited to return to the competition tend to fall into two categories; those who shine (Eureka, Vanjie, Kylie Sonique) and those who do less well the second time around (Nina Flowers, Milk). Veronica, who was a one-to-watch, fierce competitor in Series 2 unfortunately falls into the latter category, and after a middling performance in the first three episodes, she seems to have lost her mojo and isn't standing out, which leads to her elimination early on in the competition.
  • Stripperific: As nerdy as she is, Veronica is also (rather surprisingly) the queen most likely to flash the flesh this series — as seen via her penchant for sporting midriff-exposing tops and binding spandex shorts in the Werk Room, as well as her Back for the Finale gown, which is completely sheer, revealing her whole naked body, with just the merest drape of darker fabric artfully hanging from her crotch.
  • Team Mum: She clucks around the less experienced (and cuter) girls, offering advice and support that diminishes her own timescales, and ultimately leads to her elimination.
  • Tuckerization: Her drag character is inspired by her real-life little sister, Veronica. Born out of sibling jealousy, she and her brother used to create their own comic books, in the process conjuring up a supervillain called "Veronica Green".
  • White-Dwarf Starlet: Invoked by Krystal. Having snatched the win in the premiere, Krystal is gifted with the opportunity to provide her fellow queens with a performance review in the Rupermarket Sweep mini-challenge of episode 2, and she damningly designates Veronica the "Out of Date" queen, in references to both her age and second time around in the competition. Sadly, the moniker becomes presciently apposite just one episode later, as she's outshined by her competitors, and bows out early on.

Charity Kase (8th)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charity.jpeg

Age: 24
From: Rufford, Lancashire, England

  • Affectionate Nickname: Known in London as "The Wicked Witch of the East End".
  • Against the Grain: Charity's drag is amongst the most "extreme" encountered in a Drag Race franchise, in terms of her having an aesthetic that is unapologetically opposed to the norm — even when compared to fellow goth queens like Joe Black — and of the looks she showcased, only twice did she stray from her established horror style (her Red Carpet Showstopper runway in episode 2 and her Campfire Couture runway in episode 3). Ultimately, Ru and Michelle seemingly never get fully onboard with her, and whether that's due to their own personal taste, or Charity's seeming lack of range, is up for debate.
  • Attractive Zombie: Her entrance look is based around a freshly exhumed Marie-Antoinette, complete with Gorgeous Period Dress, cadaver-pale, macabre makeup and a pair of dead rats hanging from her mouth.
  • Beauty Inversion: Her drag style. For most queens, the transformation into drag involves beautifying themselves in some way. Charity however specialises in darkly subversive cartoon and body horror-themed drag, transforming from a fine looking man into a selection of occasionally nightmarish (but always brilliantly clever and expertly realised) characters when in drag.
  • Botanical Abomination: In keeping with her horror vibe, for her Queen of Your Hometown look, she sports a monstrous take on the Red Rose of Lancashire, in celebration of her home county's floral symbol.
  • British Rockstar: Charity's a rock & roll queen through and through, and out of drag looks like she could front any classic British Invasion band from the golden era of 60s/70s British rock music. During a heartwarming mirror-moment in episode 3, she reveals her HIV-positive status and the associated prejudice she's experienced to Kitty, who immediately gives her a bone-crushing hug and designates her a true rockstar.
  • Brutal Honesty: As an experienced queen, Charity is not at all shy about sharing her opinions, even if they're rather cutting — especially towards less seasoned competitors like Scarlett or Krystal.
  • Crippling Overspecialisation: Charity is the most accomplished of the queens this series in terms of having an established, wildly creative and iconic drag-style. However, whilst her horror-themed drag is always brilliantly executed, she lacks the breadth and flexibility Drag Race requires — which is most in evidence for the Expenny, Henny runway, where instead of going full glam as the brief demands, she dresses as a twisted evil Tooth Fairy, which whilst being cool and freaky, just wasn't what the judges wanted to see. Ultimately, her high-concept, heavily-worked drag is incredibly artful, but she keeps ticking the same box instead of surprising the judges, and by episode 5, her unwillingness to go off-brand sends her home.
  • Draconic Humanoid: Charity set her outrageous tone before the competition even started by dressing as a full-on dragon for her promo pic.
  • Fairy Devilmother: Her look for the Expenny, Henny runway in episode 5 is designed around a monstrous, evil Tooth Fairy, as she wanted to do a fantasy creature that was based on money, in keeping with the theme. However, whilst looking amazing and being very on-brand, it’s too high concept and not literal enough for the judges and she finds herself in the bottom two.
  • Flaming Devil: Charity missed the chance to do the Snatch Game by a week — doubly disappointing, as she had intriguingly planned to portray HIM, the uproariously camp, falsetto-voiced caricature of Satan and arch-nemesis of The Powerpuff Girls.
  • For Want Of A Nail: For the Night of a Thousand Spice Girls girl-group challenge in episode 4, her outfit is on-brand but off-colour, as all of the other girls in the "Slice Girls" team dress in silver, which she notes is a colour she neglected to pack. After landing in the bottom two with Scarlett, both girls serve a fierce lip-sync to the Spice Girls' "Who Do You Think You Are?" and both queens shantay in a double save.
  • Girl Group: In episode 4, the dance challenge and subsequent runway look are themed around the legendary British girl group, the Spice Girls. As one of the "Slice Girls", her choreo is ok, and she's praised for sticking with her horror theme and standing out, but the fact that her colour scheme is different to the other girls garners her criticism. For the runway, she portrays Mel "Scary Spice" Brown in a leopard-print Cat Girl ensemble, but the judges note that without explicit prompting, it's just a dragged-up leopard and doesn't read Scary Spice (though guest-judge Emma Bunton states it’s a look Mel B would love). For the aforementioned reasons, she finds herself in the bottom with Scarlett — though both of them are fortunate enough to be subject to a double save.
  • Handicapped Badass: As revealed in episode 3, she's been living with HIV since she was 18 years old, but that never stops her from being a fierce queen.
  • I Am What I Am: Despite doing less well in the competition than she'd have liked, in post-exit interviews, she notes that she's glad she never compromised her horror aesthetic to please the judges, and stuck to her guns.
Charity: I didn't see them asking, I don't know, River Medway to do a monstrous look so I don't know why I'd have to change my drag.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: During the ideation for the Draglexa team-challenge of episode 5, she's bossy, controlling, and wrestles leadership of the group away from team captain Krystal — but as she points out, her team are absolutely floundering, with no real clue what to do, and Krystal, despite making some valid contributions, is in no way bullish enough to effectively rally her team behind a focussed idea.
  • Killer Rabbit: For the Happy Campers runway of episode 3, Charity (being Charity) dresses as a Donnie Darko-style literal killer rabbit, covered in the blood of a troop of Girl Guides she's just murdered, in a devilishly dark subversion of the task at hand.
  • Monster Clown: For her My Favourite Thing look, Charity's very on-brand choice is "freak shows", and she stomps down the runway in a terrifying, Poltergeist (1982)-inspired Court Jester costume. Before heading back up the runway, she begins winding a creepy little jack-in-the-box, but instead of something predictably monstrous, it pops open to reveal a perky, freshly-glittered penis that has Ru howling.
Charity: If your bell-end isn't crystallised, are you really doing drag?
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Drag Race has featured some proud horror-queens over the years (most famously with Season 4 winner Sharon Needles), but Charity, who refers to herself as a "drag monster", is perhaps the most extreme example yet, with a drag-style that ranges from amusingly creepy to downright terrifying.
  • Nubile Savage: When all of the queens come Back for the Finale to congratulate the top 3, Charity sports a monstrous take on a classic scantily clad cave-girl, complete with pterodactyloid wings and a terrifying Sackhead Slasher mask.
  • One Degree of Separation: Despite living halfway around the globe from each other, she's the drag daughter of legendary US Season 3 winner, Raja.
  • Proud to Be a Geek: Despite her rock 'n roll vibe, she's a self-confessed "massive fantasy sci-fi nerd", which is reflected in her drag — she's undoubtedly the first queen to dress up as a literal dragon for her promo pic.
  • Punk Rock: Her personal style is classically anarchic British punk, though this carries over into many of her drag looks too.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Outside of her horror-drag, she sports model-esque, rock 'n roll good looks and wouldn't look out of place on a Vivienne Westwood runway. For the Red Carpet Showstopper runway in episode 2, she sports an elegant tangerine coloured, koi carp-themed look inspired by The Roaring '20s, proving that she's as capable of serving glamour as she is of horror.
  • Shout-Out: Having been eliminated in episode 5, and in keeping with her horror theme, she borrows the Last Words of the Wicked Witch of the West for her exit line:
Charity: I'M MELTING! Melting! Oh, what a world, what a world!
  • Uncanny Valley Makeup: Her expertise — many of her looks feature not only outrageously creative makeup, but also liberal use of facial prosthetics and graphics to lend her drag a twisted, cartoon vibe.
  • Whole Costume Reference: Her self-sewn Camping Couture runway is a dragged-up take on the Mad Hatter from Lewis Carroll's British literary classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, which perfectly complements the psychotic subversion of the White Rabbit she served for her preceding Happy Campers runway.
  • Wild Card: Despite chumming up with Scarlett in the early part of the series, it's clear she has no particular loyalties within the competition, as when it comes time to select a "bestie" for the Dog Race mini-challenge, she gives Scarlett the brush off, before turning on her heel to seek out Kitty.

Choriza May (7th=)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/choriza.jpeg

Age: 30
From: Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, England

"Don't hate me 'cause I'm beautiful, hate me 'cause I'm an immigrant."

  • Bad Impressionists: For the Snatch Game, she portrays fellow Hispanic Margarita Pracatan, a Cuban comedienne and singer who used to close out Clive James' late-night chat show with fairly dreadful but spirited covers of popular songs. She was so knowingly ridiculous (and bad) that she became something of a camp icon. Despite perfecting Pracatan's Trrrilling Rrrs, Choriza's overall performance is (oddly) too low-energy for the judges and she finds herself in the bottom two.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Her quirkiness belies her lightning-quick wit, and she's no pushover, despite the wacky facade.
Scarlett: [having not picked Choriza for her Girl Group team] I'm sorry I didn't pick you, Choriza.
Choriza: [having just beaten Scarlett's team] Oh, don't be silly. I'm quite happy you didn't.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: She's the most eccentric of the assembled queens this series, with Anubis a close second. Choriza soon became a fan-favourite for her inherently comic vibe and mad commentary, as well as the contrived storylines she cooked up when asked to explain her looks, but mostly for the unbridled gusto with which she attacked each weekly task, even if she strayed, on occasion, amusingly off-brief.
  • Custom Uniform of Sexy: As a proud Newcastle lass, she sports an opulent, dragged-up take on the black and white kit of her hometown's celebrated football team, Newcastle United, for her Queen of Your Hometown look.
  • Fan Art: For her My Favourite Thing look, she sports a tailored skirt-suit of her own design patterned after the abstract works of Pablo Picasso, in celebration of her love of art.
  • Funny Foreigner: She's the only non-Brit this series and part of Choriza's charm derives from the fact that, as well as being hilarious with her off the cuff humour, she delivers it all in a thick Spanish accent and leans on her roots for comic effect.
Choriza: My accent is so thick, some people are not understanding the line "yes my accent is thick", thinking I say "yes my accent is fake" instead. And I love it.
  • Gag Penis: Much conversation is had over Choriza's distracting "meaty tuck" and she freely admits to having a huge dick.
  • Girl Group: In episode 4, the dance challenge and subsequent runway look are themed around the legendary British girl group, the Spice Girls. As a member of "Pick 'N' Mix", her Gratuitous Spanish and positive energy in the ballad-based song and dance number help to land her group in the top spot. For the runway, she portrays Geri "Ginger Spice" Horner in a ballgown take on Geri's iconic Union Flag dress, first worn at the 1997 Brits Awards when the girls performed "Who Do You Think You Are?", which is later used in the lip-sync.
  • Hates Being Alone: In the premiere, she explains to Vanity that she relocated to the UK to be with her English boyfriend and tearfully recounts that she found the COVID-19 Pandemic especially hard, as her boyfriend necessarily moved back to Spain to teach English, leaving her feeling isolated and friendless in a foreign country.
  • Immigrant Patriotism: She fully embraces her Spanish background but is also very proud of being a Geordie, having lived in Newcastle for 6 years, and quickly shot down critics who claimed that she doesn't properly represent the Newcastle drag scene. In her mind, she proudly represents the UK's European immigrant population as well as the North East region.
Choriza: You know that flamenco girl doll your grandmother bought you when she went to Tenerife? That's me.
  • Impossibly Tacky Clothes: For the Expenny, Henny runway in episode 5, the girls are supposed to go full-on glam, showcasing their most expensive drag. However, Choriza goes with a horribly naff-looking gold pleather Cow Girl ensemble that thoroughly confuses the judges, though her (as always) witty explanation that she was going for a Gold Fever theme does, in some way, help her case.
  • Loon with a Heart of Gold: Early on in the competition, Choriza establishes herself as a Fun Personified queen, who flings herself into the task at hand with cheerful abandon, never indulges in any cattiness or bitchery, and whose eccentric demeanour and quick wit carry her through when she's placed under pressure.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: Chats dick every chance she gets, and proudly notes that she was originally motivated to move to the UK because she loves her boyfriend's prowess in that department.
  • Ms. Exposition: By necessity, given that many of her looks are somewhat off tangent with the task at hand, prompting the judges to ask her to explain herself in critiques. Luckily, she's usually quick-witted enough to present a hilariously convoluted storyline to back herself up.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: She created her drag persona at the height of the political debacle surrounding Brexit, hence the play on words with the UK's short-lived second female Prime Minister Theresa May and the Spanish chorizo sausage (policy on the importation of which is still causing heated debate), reflecting her Spanish background.
  • Prone to Tears: The most openly emotional of the assembled queens, Choriza is prone to both Tears of Joy and Cathartic Crying in equal measure, and with good reason was she dubbed (with good humour) this series’ “Drama Queen” by her fellow competitors.
  • Rank Up: Valencia native Choriza ascended to judging status when she made an appearance as a guest judge on episode 6 of Drag Race España Season 2.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Her entrance line, noted above, became instantly iconic for its sheer ballsiness, and for being a wry dig at those who doubt her ability to rep the Newcastle drag scene.
  • "Shaggy Frog" Story: When asked to explain her slightly odd supervillain-inspired Campfire Couture runway (complete with eye-patch), Choriza launches into an elaborately wacky backstory, explaining how her character was blinded by her lover's jizz during a camping trip and is on a mission to avenge herself, aided by her wise owl totem companion (It Makes Sense in Context — sort of). Ultimately, her quick-thinking and mad humour save her from the lip-sync.
  • Stock Shout-Outs: For the Feeling Fruity runway of episode 6, she goes with a peach-themed ensemble in the spirit of the original wearer of the 'fruit hat', the iconic Carmen Miranda.
  • Toros y Flamenco: Her Signature Style, in reference to her Spanish roots.
    • Covers both in her promo pic, where she sports a look combining a matador's jacket and a flamenco dancer's skirt.
    • For her entrance look, she sports a dress in the red and gold of la Rojigualda (Spain's national flag), and her black wig is teased into two prominent bull-horns to complete her Spanish-themed ensemble.
    • For the Red Carpet Showstopper runway of episode 2, she sports a beautiful, wraparound flamenco-style gown in azure blue, complete with a huge black peineta (large decorative comb) in her hair.
    • When all of the queens come Back for the Finale to congratulate the top 3, Choriza sports a beautiful red rose-themed Chulapa* gown.
  • Underestimating Badassery: By episode 4, Choriza notes that she doesn't think her fellow queens are taking her seriously as a competitor, which is compounded by the fact that she's Picked Last for the Girl Group challenge. However, her great performance and subsequent runway land her in the top group, thoroughly proving her mettle.
  • Wardrobe Malfunction: After finding herself in the bottom two with River following the Snatch Game, Choriza whips off her Carmen Miranda-inspired fruit turban and replaces it with a ratty black wig, which keeps slipping whilst she's trying to lip-sync, pulling her focus and ultimately resulting in a shocking double elimination when neither her nor River brings the energy that "Shout" (by guest-judge Lulu) requires.
  • Wearing a Flag on Your Head: She portrays Geri "Ginger Spice" Horner for the Night of a Thousand Spice Girls in a ballgown take on Geri's iconic Union Flag dress, stating that as the only non-Brit in the competition, and in celebration of her love of her new home, it was a perfect choice.

River Medway (7th=)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/river.jpeg

Age: 22
From: Medway, Kent, England

"The River is here. Come take a dive!"

  • Ambiguously Bi: In episode 3's mini-challenge, the queens have to impersonate straight men. She says in a confessional prior to the challenge, "Have I dated a girl? Not in a while... but never say never, ladies!" (She has confirmed she's bi multiple times after the series was filmed.)
  • Bad Impressionists: For the Snatch Game in episode 6, she portrays former Page Three Stunna and sometime The Only Way Is Essex "star", Amy Childs. Her quotes and references are way too generic and hackneyed (as Kitty quips, dressed as fellow ex-TOWIE star Gemma Collins, no one says "reem" anymore), and overall her portrayal, as well as being culturally old hat, lacks the fun required. She finds herself in the bottom two with Choriza and following a lacklustre lip-sync to guest-judge Lulu's 60s classic "Shout", both queens are commanded to sashay away in a shocking double elimination.
  • The Cutie: She's adorable both in and out of drag, and her sweet, earnest vibe in confessionals, coupled with a scene-stealing debut on the runway, saw her gain a slew of new fans following the premiere.
  • Dedication: River dedicates her performance in the competition to her late mother, who passed away after contracting COVID-19 just prior to her getting the call to appear in Series 3.
  • Fairytale Wedding Dress: The Draglexa challenge of episode 5 is a major fail for all of the queens, though River massively redeems herself for the subsequent Expenny, Henny runway, in which she sports an incredibly beautiful traditional Chinese wedding dress in fiery red, complete with elaborate hair decorations and vast hand-hiding sleeves, that's the most polished and in keeping with the luxury theme out of all of the looks presented.
  • Girl Group: In episode 4, the dance challenge and subsequent runway look are themed around the legendary British girl group, the Spice Girls. As a member of "Pick 'N' Mix", her heartwarming vocals, dedicated to her late mother, help her group win the week. On the runway, she portrays Geri "Ginger Spice" Horner in a bright red, sequinned ensemble that's a dragged-up take on the dress Geri wore to the 1997 Brit Awards after-party.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": When 90s British chart-toppers Steps (minus Lisa, stuck in Dubai) make an appearance as vocal coaches (H, Claire) and choreographers (Lee, Faye) for the Night of a Thousand Spice Girls challenge in episode 4, River is overcome with emotion, particularly as H was an icon for the young queer kids of her generation.
  • Lady of Adventure: Invoked for her Happy Campers runway in episode 3, where she sports a 1930s style ensemble, complete with an asymmetric gown made out of world maps and a Carmen Sandiego-style trilby.
  • Living Statue: For her Queen of Your Hometown look in episode 1, she takes to the stage dressed as a statue of Thomas Waghorn* that's famous in Medway for regularly having traffic cones plonked on its head and extended pointing arm following drunken revelry in the town. River has the statue's famous pose down pat, scooting down the runway pointing at the judges in a wig resembling a traffic cone, and despite the Small Reference Pools (nay microscopic in this instance), she has the judges absolutely cracking up with her hilarious scoot-and-point shenanigans.
River: I'm giving the exact pose… he's pointing somewhere but I've forgotten where actually!
  • Location Theme Naming: Her drag name is an entirely literal nod to the River Medway which flows through her native Kent and upon which her hometown sits.
  • Missing Mum: In a heartbreaking mirror-time conversation with Ella, she explains that her mother died from complications after contracting COVID-19 just prior to her getting the official go-ahead that she would be participating in the show. She therefore dedicates her performance to her late mother.
  • Please Put Some Clothes On: During the Dragaton dance challenge of episode 2, River jokes in confessional that she's slightly disturbed by the mercilessly binding unitard Veronica insists on sporting during rehearsals.
  • Rummage Sale Reject: She chooses “music” for her My Favourite Thing runway in episode 1, but her outfit is a mismatched riot of gaudy spandex and asymmetrical frills that, as the judges note, in no way personifies her passion, and she only just scrapes by as safe. Having snatched the win in the premiere, Krystal is gifted with the opportunity to provide her fellow queens with a performance review in the Rupermarket Sweep mini-challenge of episode 2, and designates River (and her wardrobe) as the "Bargain Bin" queen.
  • Small Reference Pools: Choosing to portray a commonly vandalised statue for her Queen of Your Hometown look that's almost unheard of outside of Medway, let alone Kent, let alone the rest of the UK and is positively cryptic internationally was a huge risk, but her performance was so hilariously charming that the risk paid off, and whilst she didn't place well that week, the next day's press coverage featured her performance front and centre.
  • Sexy Stewardess: For the Campfire Couture sewing challenge in episode 3, she's inspired to create a cute cabin-crew look (complete with mini-dress, neckerchief and a little pill-box hat), as the deep-red damask material she scavenges reminds her of the uniforms of the Singapore Airlines stewardesses. The ensemble is well-constructed, and she redeems herself from the "Bargain Bin Queen" moniker applied to her by Krystal the week prior.
  • Whole Costume Reference: River's promo look is inspired by the "Le Papillon" Barbie designed by the legendary costumier and mainstay Drag Race point of reference, Bob Mackie.

Scarlett Harlett (5th)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/scarlett.jpeg

Age: 26
From: Isle of Dogs, East London, England

"RuPaul's Drag Race... WHAT A LOAD OF OLD SHIT!"

  • The '80s: Personified by her My Favourite Thing look in episode 1, where she serves "I Wanna Dance with Somebody"-era Whitney Houston magic in celebration of her love of music.
  • Achilles in His Tent: After a poor showing in episodes 4 and 5, most of the other girls say her name when Ru asks the always-uncomfortable question, "who should go home next?". This goes to compound her already shaky mood, as prior to this, Charity (whom she considered her closest ally in the competition) had coolly given her the brush-off in order to pair up with Kitty in the mini-challenge. Backstage, she's clearly very hurt by all of this and, in a first for Drag Race UK, she walks off-set to cool down in the wings, only returning when she's required to lip-sync.
  • Break the Cutie: In episode 5, she endures a chain of dramatic setbacks, including being given the brush-off by Charity, having an upsetting mirror-time chat with Kitty over her mother's very poor health, turning out a sub-par performance in the Draglexa maxi-challenge, being designated the queen who should next go home by most of her fellow queens, suffering an Heroic BSoD and walking off-set, then having to lip-sync (again) for her life. Ultimately, having blown off steam, she regains her composure, and manages to serve one of the strongest lip-syncs this series to the legendary "Big Spender" by British icon Dame Shirley Bassey.
  • Deer in the Headlights: After smashing episode 3 and snatching her first RuPeter badge, her performance in the Night of a Thousand Spice Girls girl-group challenge of episode 4 is far less confident. After forgetting her lyrics, she's suddenly plagued with insecurity, freezes up, fluffs the challenge, and lands in the bottom two with her group-mate Charity. Thankfully, both girls serve a fierce lip-sync to the Spice Girls's "Who Do You Think You Are?" and both queens shantay in a double save.
  • Girl Group: In episode 4, the dance challenge and subsequent runway look are themed around the legendary British girl group, the Spice Girls. As a member and team captain of the "Slice Girls", Scarlett's fluffed lines and subsequently unsure performance land her group in the bottom. On the runway, she portrays Mel "Scary Spice" Brown in a lime green and leopard print outfit that the judges praise, but not enough to make up for her botched dance challenge performance. Having landed in the bottom two with her mate Charity, both girls give it their all in a Spice Girls-themed lip-sync and Ru declares a double-save.
  • Gorgeous Period Dress: When all of the queens come Back for the Finale to congratulate the top 3, Scarlett is at her most glamorous, sporting a beautiful, Cinderella-esque Victorian ball gown in ice-blue, with a white fur stole to match her platinum blonde hair.
  • Graceful Loser: After an emotionally dramatic time in the competition, Scarlett takes her defeat well and is even a little relieved, so it seems, to be heading home.
  • Grew a Spine: She's sweet-natured and talented, though struggles with self-doubt, which is compounded when Charity (whom she considers her closest mate in the competition) coolly gives her the brush off when the girls pair up for week 5’s mini-challenge, and is then further exacerbated when most of the rest of the girls designate her the queen who should go home next after a poor-showing in the Draglexa maxi-challenge. She’s understandably upset, and feels rounded on, but becomes surprisingly hardened and more confident when defending herself — designating Charity to go home next without a moment's hesitation — which gives her the motivation she needs to bring the theatricality and precision required to absolutely slay the lip-sync to Dame Shirley Bassey's iconic "Big Spender" against Charity.
  • The High Queen: Invoked for her Queen of Your Hometown look in episode 1, for which she serves a smart take on the legendary English monarch Elizabeth I (who was born in nearby Greenwich, she notes), combined with an East End Pearly Queennote  in celebration of her cockney heritage.
  • Hot Men at Work: Scarlett's Straight Gay vibe comes in handy and is played for laughs in the Tinder-inspired Findhr mini-challenge of episode 3, where the girls have to parody super-masc straight men. Her hilariously blokeish, East London white-van-man performance — essentially playing herself up to eleven — snatches her the win, and an extra 15 seconds of time in the maxi-challenge.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: She admits that despite her energetic, bubbly persona, she struggles to form true connections in life, so when she feels many of the other girls have rounded on her in episode 5 and designated her the next queen to go home, she takes it very poorly, suffering an Heroic BSoD and even walking off-set at one point.
  • Impossibly Tacky Clothes: Downplayed due to being more "confusing" and "off-theme" than outright tacky. She walks the Feeling Fruity runway in a lime-green gown and despite looking beautiful, the panel agrees with guest judge Lulu that she read more like "wet lettuce" than "lime", compared to the other contestants' more literal interpretations.
  • Keet: In the Werk Room and in confessionals, she's a bundle of breathless energy, often rallying the girls when it's time to get ready prior to the weekly challenges.
  • Metaphorgotten: "The competition's not heating up, it's boiling over, and the pot - the kettle's fallen on the floor, and the floor's now - there's a fucking hole in the floor. You know what I mean?"
  • Mummy's Boy: She's incredibly close to her mum, a single parent who raised her with support and love. In a heart-wrenching mirror-time chat with Kitty, she explains that her mum has COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), is in very bad health, and likely to succumb to the disease in horribly swift time.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: She's a chatty, energetic and sweet-natured girl, both in confessionals and in the Werk Room, though when it comes time to rehearse — she admits she's not a great dancer, or good at remembering lines — she drops all of her fun persona and becomes super-serious, frowning in deep concentration.
  • Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure: Episode 5 is particularly dramatic for Scarlett, kicked off when Charity, whom she considers her best mate in the competition, briskly gives her the brush off when the girls have to pair up for the Dog Race mini-challenge, simply giving her a bemused look before turning on her heel to pair up with Kitty, even after Scarlett had affectionately put her arm around her. This sends Scarlett into a spiral of self-doubt and an increasing feeling of isolation in the competition.
  • Pretty Boy: She's a beautiful blond twink and amongst the cutest competitors across the entire Drag Race franchise. As such, she was immediately dubbed the "Twink Trade of the Season" upon her debut.
  • Recursive Crossdressing: For the Snatch Game, she had initially planned to stay on-brand and portray East End hardman and former cast member of EastEnders, Danny Dyer. Ru however encourages her to reconsider, and after two weeks of struggling, she takes a huge risk and decides to portray a Home Alone-era Macaulay Culkin — looking exactly like him — in what is an undoubtedly off-piste but ultimately well-observed and well-received performance.
  • Shout-Out: As a true East Ender, she can't resist a nod to the iconic Kat Slater as she exits the competition:
Scarlett: Ru, you always said being on Drag Race is like being in one big happy family, so I got one last thing to say to you: YOU AIN'T MY MOTHER!!!
    [everyone laughs and cheers]
    Ru: YES I AM!!!
  • Superhero Sobriquets: In line with her cockney roots, she always refers to herself as the "Danny Dyer of Drag" and has the cheeky-chappy persona to match.
  • Textile Work Is Feminine: Despite her laddish persona, she's a dab hand with a sewing machine and manages to create a gorgeously fitted gown out of picnic rug for the Campfire Couture runway of episode 3, which snatches her the win in week 3 and her first RuPeter badge.
  • The Twink: Along with Lemon from Canada Season 1, she's up there with the twinkiest queens to ever grace the Drag Race main-stage.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Her whole motivation for doing well in the competition is to make her mum, to whom she is very close, proud of her. Compounded by the fact that her mum has a chronic illness (COPD) and therefore their time together could at any point be swiftly cut short.
  • Whole Costume Reference:
    • For the Red Carpet Showstopper runway in episode 2, she gives a nod to her namesake Miss Scarlet, the Femme Fatale from the classic British murder-mystery board game Cluedo, in a beautiful, deep scarlet gown.
    • Her Happy Campers runway in episode 3 is a well-executed Joan Jett-meets-Katniss Everdeen look, complete with Katniss' signature bow and arrow that she pretends to fire at the judges upon bursting onto the runway.
    Nicola Coughlan: Oh! My eye!!
    • For the luxury-themed Expenny, Henny runway in episode 5, she channels mega-bitch Miranda Priestly from the The Devil Wears Prada, chucking money all over the place in a tailored suit, fur-coat and pimp cane.
    • Her "Fugly but Fashionable" look for the final runway of the Fugly Ball challenge is another nod to EastEnders, this time channelling Bianca "Rickaaaaay!" Jackson in a hot pink and leopard-print ensemble for her chav-themed inspiration.
  • Working-Class Hero: She was raised by a single working mother in social housing on the Isle of Dogs (one of East London's as-yet-ungentrified areas) and she's incredibly proud of her humble and traditionally working-class cockney background, having been born (as is required) "within the sound of Bow bells" — Bow Church that is; to be a true cockney, as the saying goes, you have to have been born within the audible range of the church's bells.
Scarlett: I'm proud of my roots and I embrace my working-class and cockney heritage in my drag. I was born and raised in east London — I'm EastEnders personified!

Vanity Milan (4th)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vanity.jpeg

Age: 29
From: Mitcham, South London, England

"It's Vanity Milan, and that's on what? Period."

  • Biting-the-Hand Humor: As stated by Kitty at a watch party, the "dirty rice" quip from her Gladys Kingston Snatch Game performance was an in-joke between the queens about the show's lackluster catering.
  • Black Sheep: In episode 2, Vanity tearfully describes how her darker skin-tone led to her being picked on at school and by her own relatives, even describing herself as the “black sheep" of the family at one point.
  • Gag Penis: For the Tinder-inspired Findhr mini-challenge in episode 3, the girls have to parody mega-masc straight men, and so being a South London girl, she goes full on crotch-grabbing urban bad-boy — though her "crotch" is later revealed to be a massive can of hairspray she's stuffed down her pants.
  • Flat Character: By episode 8, she's reached the top 4 (despite landing in the bottom three times) by virtue of her strong Dance Battler abilities in a lip-sync, though aside from a few snarky comments, she doesn't exhibit much personality and Ru even notes "I'm surprised you've hung on so long".
  • Girl Group: In episode 4, the dance challenge and subsequent runway look are themed around the legendary British girl group, the Spice Girls. As a member of "Pick 'N' Mix", the topical and important message she raps in the dance number helps her group win the week. On the runway, she portrays Mel "Scary Spice" Brown in classic Mel B leopard print-realness.
  • Highly Specific Counterplay: Her overall skill-set is lacking in terms of the qualities required to do well in the competition (sewing, comedy, runways, makeup), however her dancing skills are formidable, and she manages to reach the top 4 (to Ru’s surprise) on the strength of her ability to send a rival queen packing in a lip-sync alone.
  • Hypocrite: Vanity accuses Scarlett of "only having one talent", which ultimately comes back to bite her in the arse as the other girls point out that her performance is hardly stellar and use it as a clap-back thereafter.
  • May the Farce Be with You: For the Bra Wars acting challenge of episode 8, she portrays "Baby Yolo", a cross between the venerable Jedi master Yoda and Grogu AKA "The Child", a baby alien of the same species. Despite playing essentially a head in a box, she's praised for her animated performance and is placed safe.
  • Out of Focus: By midway through the competition, she has less confessional time than the other girls and fades into the background somewhat in the face of bigger personalities (Kitty, Choriza, Scarlett) and more polished looks (Krystal, Ella).
  • Spectacular Spinning: She's the Dance Battler of Series 3, and in episode 7, whilst lip-syncing (again) to "Scandalous" by Mis-Teeq against Scarlett, she absolutely slays, whipping out some incredible pirouetting skills that are best-in-class across the Drag Race franchise.
  • Vanity Is Feminine: Her mum helped pick her drag name, as she's self-admittedly a very vain person, and if there's a mirror in the vicinity, you'll find her admiring herself in it.
  • Wearing a Flag on Your Head: Twice in the premiere:
    • For her Queen of Your Hometown look, she sports a black, yellow and green outfit in celebration of the flag of Jamaica, from where her ancestors hailed, emblazoned with the postcodes of her South London neighbourhood.
    • For her My Favourite Thing look, she sports an outfit themed around the flag of Estonia — a country she loves and from where her husband hails.

Kitty Scott-Claus (runner-up + Miss Congeniality)*

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kitty.jpeg

Age: 29
From: Birmingham, West Midlands, England

"It's all right, boys. Kitty don't bite — not now she's been fed."

Kitty describes herself as an entertainer - busty, blonde and bubbly - whose style is British drag through-and-through, all about the personality and fun.

  • Always Second Best: Throughout the first half of the competition, Kitty consistently places high thanks to her solid performances and runways, yet never quite manages to clinch a challenge win. She eventually wins her first RuPeter badge in episode 7's Fugly Ball time-based sewing challenge.
  • Ascended Fangirl: Kitty has been a huge fan of the Spice Girls for years and portrays her idol, Emma Bunton, in the drag tribute act The Spice Gals. It's only when she appears on Drag Race, however, that she gets to actually meet and perform for her idol, when Emma guest-judges in episode 4's Spice Girls-themed week.
  • Bait-and-Switch: For the Tinder-inspired Findhr mini-challenge in episode 3, the girls have to parody mega-masc straight men, and Kitty begins by marching down the line up of her fellow queens, high-fiving them all bellowing "lads! lads! lads!" as she goes and generally acting like a stereotypically boorish builder. However, when it comes time to record her message to prospective ladies, she suddenly switches to a totally unexpected, hilariously twee, high-pitched tone that cracks Ru and the other girls up:
Kitty: Hi~, um, so, um, my name is Kris Marc! Kris with a "K" and Marc with a "C"!
Ru: And what's your idea of a perfect date?
Kitty: I'd have to say April 25th because it's not too hot, and it's not too cold~ All you need is a light jacket~!
  • Bear Hug: After Charity reveals her HIV status during a heartwarming mirror-time chat, Kitty gives her a crushing, lingering hug and designates her a true rockstar.
  • Beauty Inversion: The usually gorgeously glam Kitty serves cute-as-a-button geek-chic for her RuPeter Badge winning Fugly Ball runway, with a frizzy perm, Nerd Glasses, and a Homemade Sweater from Hell emblazoned with her name. Alan notes the look is "very Gucci" and therefore spot-on for the "fugly, but fashionable" theme of the challenge.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: She's a gorgeously curvy, pneumatic blonde.
  • Big Fun: Kitty's the curviest girl of the series and a riotously camp, upbeat queen whose confessional commentary includes spot-on observations of the mayhem going on around her, and also the occasional memetic quip, just for the hell of it.
Oh she's a journalist ladies and gentlemen, she's not a Blind Dater at all! note
  • Big Sister Instinct: She's the first queen to step in and defend Scarlett's upset over being designated the next queen to go home, and makes it clear to River and Vanity (who are still incredulous) that she'd be just as hurt.
  • Camp: Of all the girls this series, Kitty most closely adheres to the concept of traditionally British, camp-as-Christmas drag, though she does mix it up via modern sensibilities and is more glamorous than some of her precursors (Baga, Ginny) in the field.
  • Class Clown: In her winner’s interview for Popbuzz, Krystal revealed that throughout the competition Kitty was indefatigably upbeat and never once stopped cracking gags, even during the most stressful points in the competition, so not for nothing did she and her fellow queens dub Kitty “Class Clown”.
  • Cheery Pink: She's a bright, boisterous presence in the competition, and pink is her signature color.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Hilariously invoked for the Dragaton (a play on peloton) challenge of episode 2, where she and Krystal, AKA the “Ball Busters”, play a pair of totally over the top, psychotic boot-camp-instructors, barking orders at the judges and never once letting their energy dip.
  • Everyone Loves Blondes: The basis of her "Bubbly, Busty and Blonde" drag persona. She sports gorgeously thick, wavy blonde hair out of drag too.
  • Facial Dialogue: She's a hilariously expressive queen, and the camera loves to cut to her to serve a Reaction Shot, especially when she's caught between two bickering queens, raising her eyebrows and looking aside in nervous amusement.
  • Fangirl:
    • For her My Favourite Thing runway in episode 1, she dresses as a 70s-era Agnetha Fältskog in celebration of her love of ABBA.
    • For Snatch Game, Kitty has the opportunity to portray her hero and the basis of her drag persona, Gemma Collins, the some-time cast member of The Only Way Is Essex, current reality TV mainstay, and beloved meme-fodder. Given she's essentially Gemma up to eleven, she of course nails the challenge with her perfectly observed Gemma-isms, and whilst Ella deservedly snatches the win, Ru compliments Kitty on a job well done.
  • Girl Group: In episode 4, the dance challenge and subsequent runway look are themed around the legendary British girl group, the Spice Girls. As a member of the "Slice Girls", Kitty's energy and expert comedic lip-syncing keep her safe, but overall her group land in the bottom. On the runway, she portrays her hero Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton in a look that's a spot-on recreation of a dress Emma wore for the recent reunion tour.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: A stunning blonde in and out of drag, with a warm, bubbly persona to match. Throughout the series, Kitty acts as a caring shoulder to cry on for her fellow queens, as well as diffusing any Werk Room tensions by cracking gags or simply changing the subject.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: Gleefully admits to being a prosecco-guzzling hunnote  in her promo video and cites the memetic and legendary hun Gemma Collins as her primary drag inspiration.
  • The Heart: Whilst she loves a bit of cheeky banter, Kitty is definitely the emotional sounding board of the series, and a supportive friend to her fellow queens. In heart-wrenching scenes, Scarlett seeks Kitty out as a shoulder to cry on when opening up about her mother’s chronic ill-health, and she’s also sought out by Charity a couple of weeks prior when she reveals and discusses her HIV positive status.
  • Incoming Ham: She works mostly in and around east London, but she's a native Brummie. In her Meet the Queens video, she greets us with a hilariously exaggerated Birmingham accent:
Kitty: Alroit bab, it's moy Kitty Scott-Claus and Oy'm from BUUUUR-ming-goom.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": Kitty is absolutely star-struck when meeting her hero, fellow iconic blonde and guest-judge Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton, and tears up with joy after receiving praise from her over her Night of a Thousand Spice Girls girl-group performance.
  • Lawyer-Friendly Cameo: Due to The BBC's regulationsnote , Kitty couldn't say on air that her chocolate-themed Queen of Your Hometown look was created in celebration of Bournville, the West Midlands-based model village that serves as the headquarters of the UK's beloved Cadbury confectionery manufacturer.
  • May the Farce Be with You: For the Bra Wars acting challenge of episode 8, Kitty portrays the heroine of the piece, "Brabarella", a parody of the already-ridiculous Barbarella and a Crossover (albeit a fitting one) into the Star Wars-themed setting. Kitty, being the Large Ham that she already is, nails the role, inserting the odd pop-cultural Shout-Out throughout and earning high-praise, especially from actor and guest-judge Russell Tovey. Landing in the top two with Ella, both queens share a double win after a strong winners' lip-sync.
  • Nice Girl: Kitty was deservedly crowned this series' Miss Congeniality by guest host Judi Love at the finale live screening in London.
Kitty: I didn't think I was gonna win that! Miss Congeniality is one of my favourite films and I can quote the shit out of it!
  • Nice Mean And In Between: Kitty's the "Nice" of the final 3, never once bitching about a fellow queen or throwing shade that's anything other than playful. She's forever upbeat, supportive of any fellow queen who needs a shoulder to cry on, and Fun Personified throughout her time in the competition.
  • Oh, Crap!: After nailing the Bra Wars maxi-challenge, Kitty’s fully expecting either herself or Ella to win, and Vanity and Krystal to lip-sync by default. The moment Ru declares Vanity safe, the shock on her and Ella’s faces is palpable, and increases once Krystal also joins Vanity in the safe zone. Finally, Ru declares that Kitty and Ella are the top 2, and they must lip-sync for the win.
  • One Degree of Separation: Kitty's a member of the Girls Aloud tribute band "Gals Aloud" alongside the irrepressible UK Series 1 alumna, Cheryl Hole.
  • Please Put Some Clothes On: During the Dragaton dance challenge of episode 2, Kitty jokes in confessional that she's slightly disturbed by the mercilessly binding unitard Veronica insists on sporting during rehearsals.
Kitty: Fucking hell, put a cardie on love!
  • Pop-Cultured Badass: Kitty strongly adheres to the universally-acknowledged drag maxim of "always be referencing", and many of her looks and quips are smart pop-cultural nods, some clear, some obscure, but always executed and delivered with playful good humour.
  • Punny Name: "Kitty's got claws".
  • Red Riding Hood Replica: For the Feeling Fruity runway of episode 6, she serves a sexy take on the fairytale classic in a spandex version of Red's iconic outfit, adorned with cherries in keeping with the fruity theme. As a blonde both in and out of drag, she also jokes that she's pushing herself out of her comfort zone and being vulnerable by going brunette for the look.
  • Renaissance Woman: Whilst Krystal is a Jack of All Trades, exhibiting a good level of skill in most Drag Race disciplines (and top skills in makeup), Kitty takes things up a notch. At the beginning of the competition it may have initially seemed as though her personality would be her biggest draw, but throughout the series she proves herself to be a multi-faceted queen, with top skills in dancing, acting and runways, as well as possessing the robust confidence and unfazed adaptability required to do well in the Drag Race format. In the end, Kitty makes it all the way to the finale without ever placing lower than safe, let alone landing in the bottom throughout the competition, joining an illustrious group of queens across the franchise who never place below safe, and can turn their hand to any challenge, comprising of Bianca del Rio (US S6), Scarlett Bobo (Canada S1), Envy Peru (Holland S1), her teammate Ella Vaday, Elecktra Bionic (Italy S1), Farida Kant (Italy S1), Sharonne (Spain S2), and Danny Beard (UK S4).
  • Self-Deprecation: Kitty never takes herself too seriously, and has the good-natured self-confidence to match, as seen with this little gem of an exchange with the judges:
Ru: This outfit, it's just so gorgeous—
    Kitty: Just not on me?
Ru: [visibly flapped] Oh no, no!
Kitty: 'Ere y'are Krystal, put this on love!
  • Shout-Out: Kitty's entrance quote above is famously uttered by a middle-age old lush, post-shag with Neil, in the British coming-of-age comedy The Inbetweeners.
  • Show Within a Show: Having won the week in episode 7, Kitty is gifted with assigning the roles in episode 8's Star Wars parody acting challenge. Rather than simply bicker on the sofa (as is usual in these scenarios), Kitty puts on a red curly wig, a pair of librarian spectacles and decides to start the Kitty Scott Talent Agency, auditioning each of the girls in character and creating her own little sketch out of the process, delivering something fresh and as-yet unseen across the franchise.
  • Surprisingly Normal Backstory: Ru loves a queen with a tragic background, often involving parental abandonment, drug-dependency or relationship trauma (it makes for great TV). Brilliantly, during their pre-finale Tic-Tac chat, Ru is noticeably a little vexed when her psychoanalytical digging fails to reveal literally anything negative about Kitty’s life, as she gleefully describes her charmed upbringing and supportive parents.
  • Whole Costume Reference:
    • Her entrance look is based on her fellow banging blonde, Elle Woods, of Legally Blonde fame.
    • For the Red Carpet Showstopper runway in episode two, she goes full on Golden Age of Hollywood glamour in a beautiful sequined gown inspired by Marilyn Monroe's iconic performance of "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" in the cinematic classic, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
    • Her Happy Campers runway in episode 3 was inspired by Barbara Windsor's iconic, bra-busting performance in the legendary Awful British Sex Comedy, Carry On Camping.
    • Her Scene-Stealers runway in episode 8 is a spot-on recreation of the pinstriped Gorgeous Period Dress Rose DeWitt Bukater wears as she arrives in Southampton to board the Titanic, complete with a "dropping The Heart of the Ocean overboard" skit before she exits the runway.

Ella Vaday (runner-up)

Age: 32
From: Dagenham, Essex, England

"Oh, my gosh. It looks like you're about to have one Ella Vaday."

  • The Ace: Leads the pack in track record, making it to the top 4 with four challenge wins (including the coveted Snatch Game and the stand-up comedy Roast challenge) and never placing low, let alone being in the bottom 2. In the UK series, only Bimini Bon-Boulash has thus far achieved four challenge wins, but even she landed in the bottom at least once. Make no mistake, Ella is Bianca-level accomplished.
  • Amazonian Beauty: She's a body-queen with a seriously sculpted frame and big guns, which lends her drag a true glamazon vibe.
  • Armoured Closet Gay: When the other queens talk about coming out in their teens or younger (or in Kitty's case, it being obvious from the start), Ella admits that she was deep in the closet until her 20's and had only been out for 10 years as of filming.
  • Big-Breast Pride: To balance out her masculine, muscular build, Ella favours boldly projecting, nuclear warhead boobs in almost every look she sports.
  • Deadpan Snarker: As she starts to come into her own in the second half of the competition, her composed, dry humour becomes apparent, and she'll clap back in quick, serene deadpan when any sass is volleyed her way.
    Ella: I've got it babes.
    Vanity: What have you got?
    Ella: I've got two badges.
  • Enraged by Idiocy: Due to her theatre background, Ella is a Consummate Professional when it comes to preparation, so when the girls are under time pressure to pull together charity shop-chic looks for the Fugly Ball challenge, she has absolutely no time for guest-star Charity Shop Sue's dry comedy schtick — in fact, in confessional she notes that she wishes she'd just get out of her way and let her concentrate.
  • Gayngst: Rather than choosing something more frivolous, Ella explains that selecting the Progress Pride Flag as the theme of her Favourite Thing runway was a clear choice, as for two thirds of her life she was heavily closeted and attempting to live a "straight lifestyle", which massively impacted her mental wellbeing. Now out and proud, the flag symbolises her overcoming the difficult times and in doing so, she hopes to inspire others.
  • Girl Group: In episode 4, the dance challenge and subsequent runway look are themed around the legendary British girl group, the Spice Girls. As a member of "Pick 'N' Mix", her excellent vocals, smart directional ideas, and cinched-for-the-Gods outfit in the song and dance number help her group win the week. On the runway, as she's a fitness queen, she aptly portrays Mel "Sporty Spice" Chisholm in a gown that's essentially a glammed-up version of Mel C's iconic popper-side tracksuit.
  • Gorgeous Period Dress: For the Red Carpet Showstopper runway in episode 2, she looks every inch the 1940s screen-siren, and channels Hollywood legend Rita Hayworth in a beautiful, palest-peach gown, which accentuates her vast, shelf-like cleavage, topped off with softly-waved auburn hair.
  • Gym Bunny: Her social media output is a combination of fierce drag looks and gym updates, and she's the muscliest contestant to compete in the UK series so far.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: Having been gifted with the opportunity to rate her competitors after winning the premiere, Krystal dubs Ella the "Hot Deal" (AKA Trade of the Season) in the Rupermarket Sweep mini-challenge of episode 2.
  • Heroic Build: Her impressive physique, balanced and feminised (proportionised?) via her penchant for huge boobs and a cinched waist, lends her drag a superheroine quality — exemplified by her entrance look, which evoked a pumped Barbarella.
  • Hot Men at Work: For the Tinder-inspired Findhr mini-challenge in episode 3, the girls have to parody super-masc straight men. Ella portrays a typically laddish builder ("Richard Pic") — and does a great job, though the other girls are less interested in her gags and mostly concerned with how hot she looks — she even gives us a cheeky peek at her "builder's bum", which causes a frisson of delight in the Werk Room.
  • Icon of Rebellion: For her Queen of Your Hometown runway in episode 1, she sports a 1960s-themed look, complete with protest banner, in celebration of the Dagenham women who participated in the Ford sewing machinists strike of 1968note  that aimed for equal pay for women — as immortalized in the film Made in Dagenham.
  • Insult Comic: Prior to the Pearly Gates Roast stand-up challenge in episode 9, Ella admits that she’s never done stand-up, or even written a joke down before, and in confessional she’s a little apprehensive. However, when it comes to her actual routine, she absolutely kills it, strutting about the stage with an easy confidence and delivering gag after gag (without notes, and always playful, never mean) that have the judges and the returning eliminated queens absolutely howling. In Drag Race herstory, Ella's roast is amongst the best yet seen, and she goes on to win her fourth RuPeter badge.
Ella: And then we've got Krystal Versace. She's like a cute little scared chihuahua that I just want to pick up....put in a bag and throw off a cliff. Last week, she played a robotic fashion-girl....I mean talk about typecast. If you enjoyed that, I've been Ella Vaday! If you didn't, I've been Vanity Milan's greasy-arse face!
  • Lady Looks Like a Dude: Her strong masculine features are hard to hide in drag. While the judges don't hold this against her, it's the subject of the occasional playful read from the other queens.
Choriza May: Ella you look like a gorgeous man...when you're in drag.
  • May the Farce Be with You: For the Bra Wars acting challenge of episode 8, she nails the role of "Daft Shader" — a gender-bent Captain Ersatz of galactic super-villain Darth Vader with added Dominatrix stylings, Torpedo Tits, and a Laughably Evil persona — delivering a hammy, vampish performance that lands her in the top two and a double win with Kitty.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Due to her classically handsome, chiselled good looks and pumped body, she was almost immediately dubbed the Trade of the Season by the fans and is undoubtedly one of the hunkiest queens to grace any iteration of the Drag Race franchise over the years.
  • Ms. Fanservice: For the Snatch Game, she finally gets to stretch her acting chops, portraying the legendarily flirtatious mistress of Food Porn, British TV cook Nigella Lawson. As well as nailing Lawson's famously beautiful, bombshell good looks, she also nails her signature seductive purr, and her well-observed quips (including the now infamous “mee-cro-wah-vey"note ) and suggestively alliterative responses are spot-on, never veering into vulgarity. She follows this on the Feeling Fruity runway in a beautiful, camp-glamour watermelon-themed gown. For good reason, she snatches the win and her first solo RuPeter badge.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: Of the final 3, Ella is the "In Between"; she's a level-headed, supportive queen when her competitors need her, but will also clap back at any impertinence in dry deadpan and never shies away from disarming a fellow queen (always in serene tones) who tries to come for her — as Vanity often finds out.
  • Oh, Crap!: After nailing the Bra Wars maxi-challenge, Ella’s fully expecting either herself or Kitty to win, and Vanity and Krystal to lip-sync by default. The moment Ru declares Vanity safe, the shock on her and Kitty’s faces is palpable, and increases once Krystal also joins Vanity in the safe zone. Finally, Ru declares that Ella and Kitty are the top 2, and they must lip-sync for the win.
  • Performance Artist: She was a musical theatre performer prior to becoming a drag queen and appeared in the West End in Wicked and then The Book of Mormon.
  • Power Trio: Across the UK franchise, Ella, Bimini Bon-Boulash and Cheddar Gorgeous form a trio of exceptionally high-performing queens, having all won at least 4 maxi-challenges. In further parallel, of those wins, all three won their series' Snatch Game, Girls Groups, and Acting challenges.
  • Proper Lady: Of all the queens this series (and perhaps across the UK iteration overall), Ella is arguably the most composed, reserved and elegant, maintaining a high standard of drag and overall performance, never indulging in dramatics or overly-harsh reads, and just getting on with the task at hand in very professional manner. The downside to this is that her natural reserve meant she took a little while to warm up in the competition, as well as some of her fellow queens reading her as being a tad "plain bagel" to begin with.
  • Punny Name: "Hell of a day!"
  • Renaissance Woman: Like fellow top 4 queen Kitty, she can turn her hand to any challenge presented by the series (sewing, dancing, comedy, runways, standup) and do well to excellent. In the end, Ella makes it all the way to the finale without ever placing lower than safe, let alone placing low or landing in the bottom throughout the competition, joining an illustrious group of queens across the franchise who never place below safe, and can turn their hand to any challenge, comprising of Bianca del Rio (US S6), Scarlett Bobo (Canada S1), Envy Peru (Holland S1), her teammate Kitty, Elecktra Bionic (Italy S1), Farida Kant (Italy S1), Sharonne (Spain S2), and Danny Beard (UK S4).
  • Took a Level in Badass: It takes this seasoned queen until episode 6 to properly break out of her shell, and in the early stages of the competition, whilst serving a solid performance, she admits she's having trouble standing out and is read as being a little bland by her competitors. However, when it comes time for the Snatch Game, she finally has a chance to properly exhibit her comedy and acting chops, slaying the house down with a deliciously suggestive portrayal of the British-bombshell TV cook, Nigella Lawson.
  • Transatlantic Equivalent: Ella's background and track record in the competition is very similar to US Season 13 alumna, Rosé. As well as being the resident Hunks of their respective seasons, both queens are musical theatre trained, both had a fairly underwhelming start to the competition, both were initially read as "bland", both took time to come out of their shells, and both only did so past the halfway point of the competition.
  • Wearing a Flag on Your Head: For her My Favourite Thing look in episode 1, she goes with an elegant, sequined gown themed around the colours of the Progress Pride Flag in celebration of her love of the inclusivity it represents.
  • Whole Costume Reference:
    • Her Happy Campers runway in episode 3 is a combination of a dragged-up take on Jane Porter, the Bold Explorer from Disney's Tarzan (complete with pith helmet, golden-yellow outfit, and butterfly net) and the front cover of a Steampunk book (fabulously) called The Parasol Protectorate.
    • Her Expenny, Henny runway in episode 5 is a glammed-up tribute to the Sexy Backless Outfit sported by Gwen Verdon whilst playing Charity Hope Valentine, the eponymous hero of the book-musical Sweet Charity, directed by the legendary Bob Fosse.
    • Her Scene-Stealers runway of episode 8 is a dragged-up, Hotter and Sexier take on an Oompa-Loompa (of all things), complete with bright orange skin and a huge green wig. She's praised for her off-the-wall choice and going very much off-brand.

Krystal Versace (winner)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krystal.jpeg

Age: 19
From: Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England

"Sex on legs has arrived!"

  • Achilles' Heel: Krystal is a Jack of All Trades queen who can turn her hand to almost any weekly task, though her biggest weakness is undoubtedly learning dialogue for acting challenges, due to her being dyslexic. It's one of the few occasions this quietly-confident queen appears truly rattled.
  • Acquired Situational Narcissism: Her win in the premiere renders her somewhat cocky, and when gifted with the opportunity to provide a performance review of her fellow queens in episode 2, she reveals her youthful inexperience, meandering between valid critiquing and clumsy, insensitive bitchery — particularly towards Victoria over her curvier build, despite naming her her biggest competition.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: She and Anubis are a tender 19 years old at the time of filming and along with Scaredy Cat of UK Series 1, represent the three youngest queens to perform in a Drag Race series bar Morrigan (18 at the time of filming) from Drag Race Thailand.
  • Backhanded Compliment: When asked to name her "biggest threat" of the competition, she chooses Victoria, due to her fierce performance in the premiere, but then turns "biggest" into an insensitive, immature read on Victoria's weight — to the universal shock of her fellow queens.
  • Big-Breast Pride: One thing that separates Krystal from the other "skinny fashion queens" of the franchise is her love for a big breastplate, notably sporting one in her Red Carpet Showstopper look in episode 2 for example. She references this aspect of her aesthetic in her "B.D.E." verse for the girl groups-themed singing challenge in episode 4.
  • Book Ends: The rare queen to win the first, and last, lip-sync of the series — a feat only achieved twice previously across the franchise via Chad Michaels in All Stars 1 and Trinity the Tuck in All Stars 4.
  • Cat Girl: For her My Favourite Thing look in episode 1, she celebrates her love of cats in a sphynx-inspired, leopard print look that sees her snatch the win and her first RuPeter badge.
  • Character Development: By episode 7, of the five remaining queens, Krystal has arguably exhibited the most growth in the competition, starting out as a slightly catty look-queen, but week-on-week showing that she can turn her hand to almost any challenge and is willing to go out of her comfort zone when required, whilst also displaying a warmer, less haughty persona than was perhaps expected of her. It helps that she quickly felt terrible for her body-shaming joke at Victoria Scone’s expense in episode 2, and is much more approachable and kind for the rest of the season.
  • Chaste Hero: Whilst getting ready for the Fugly Ball in episode 7, Krystal mentions to the other girls that she's still a virgin, and that she's more interested in honing her drag skills than forming relationships — casual or otherwise. Ella can't help but be shocked by the revelation, primarily due to Krystal's self-described "sex on legs" drag persona.
  • Consistent Clothing Style: Her signature drag look is a sparkling catsuit that highlights her exquisite body (and padding). However, after walking the Feeling Fruity runway in a dragon fruit-themed ensemble (which also featured, over the catsuit, a spiky corset with a similar silhouette to the one she made in episode 3), the judges remark that she has already shown this outfit style and she's becoming a little too predictable.
  • Darkhorse Victory: Downplayed. She and Kitty both had two wins each, compared to frontrunner Ella Vaday who had four. Unlike Kitty, Krystal was the only one of the final three to have a bottom two placement (where she took down lipsync assassin Vanity Milan). Also, Krystal scored two wins very early on, and spent the next six episodes consistently safe while Kitty and Ella rose to prominence in the back half of the series. On paper, it may seem like Krystal peaked early and flamed out. And yet, her well-conceived runways kept her in the game, and Ru — it must be said — was openly a big fan of hers. With some hard work, inspired choreography and youthful energy, Krystal aces the final musical number, and gives the most passionate performance in the final lip-sync, which wins her the crown.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Hilariously invoked for the Dragaton (a play on peloton) challenge of episode 2, where she and Kitty, AKA the “Ball Busters”, play a pair of totally over the top, psychotic boot-camp-instructors, barking orders at the judges and never once letting their energy dip. The fact that Krystal’s dressed like an anime schoolgirl compounds the mayhem.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Having snatched the win in episode 1, Krystal is gifted with the opportunity to provide a performance review of her fellow queens in episode 2 via the Rupermarket Sweep mini-challenge. She makes a few blunt comments, including naming Victoria as the "Star Buy" and her biggest competition, but also framing "biggest" as an insult over Victoria's curvier body shape. Victoria instigates a mirror-time chat with Krystal later on, and explains that she's struggled with her body-image her entire life, which led to her contracting bulimia. Krystal, with Sudden Humility, sincerely apologises over her ill-judged words.
  • Extreme Doormat: For the Draglexa maxi-challenge in week 5, the girls are split into two groups, with her as team captain of one of them. Whilst Krystal does come up with some good ideas, she's too dithering, allows herself to be talked over, and Charity soon wrestles control of the group. Charity has been in a low-scoring group twice at this point, and nothing she’s doing is connecting with the judges and with Ru in particular, whereas Krystal has two wins, and generally seems to know what is going to appeal to Ru, which demonstrates her lack of assertiveness off the runway.
  • Fantastic Fruits and Vegetables: For the fruit-inspired Feeling Fruity runway, the other girls go with looks inspired by familiar options (peaches, cherries, limes etc), though Krystal takes inspiration from a dragon fruit (not exactly typical UK fare), sporting a cat-suit patterned after the fruit's black and white spotted flesh, a corset in hot pink and green designed to resemble its scaly peel, topped off with a voluminous green ponytail as the stalk.
  • The Fashionista: The clearest example this series. At heart, Krystal is a fashion queen, and her drag is always beautifully constructed, with a polished, editorial quality.
  • The Gift: In episode 5, during the judges' critique, Ru makes it very clear that she feels Krystal is a naturally gifted drag queen, and launches into her instantly-(in)famous "you were born to be a drag queen" speech. And as true as that may be, given Krystal's age-defying competency, Ru's assertion was surprisingly gushing and out of the blue, which rubbed some fans up the wrong way. Her inherent talent is solemnised five episodes later when she’s crowned the winner of UK Series 3, and therefore the youngest ever winner, at a tender 19, across the entire franchise.
  • Girl Group: In episode 4, the dance challenge and subsequent runway look are themed around the legendary British girl group, the Spice Girls. As a member of the "Slice Girls", Krystal's beautiful mirrored cat-suit and fiercely focussed performance keep her safe, but overall her group land in the bottom. On the runway, she portrays Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton in a demure look based around a powder-blue, fur-lined jacket Emma wore on tour before Krystal was even born.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: She's amongst the last to arrive in the Werk Room on day one, and the assembled girls all coo over her striking "sex on legs" red look and perfect makeup.
  • Impossible Task Instantly Accomplished: Despite her youth, she proves herself to be a major player in the competition by week 2, having snatched the win in both the premiere and second episode — a task never achieved before in the UK edition, and only twice previously in Drag Race herstory after BenDeLaCreme on All Stars 3 and Symone on Season 13. However, DeLa lost the lip-sync after the second challenge win and Symone's wins were not consecutive due to a split premiere, which makes Krystal the first queen ever to fully win episodes 1 and 2.
  • Jack of All Trades: Whilst she’s not at the Renaissance Woman level of Kitty and Ella, Krystal exhibits the broadly comprehensive skill-set required to do well in Drag Race. Initially, it’d be easy to write her off as a 'look-queen', but by episode 6, Krystal proves that she can not only paint a perfect face, but is also a (fairly) competent seamstress, a strong dancer with good Power Copying abilities, and even a not half-bad comedienne — as seen in the Dragaton challenge and also the Snatch Game, where she completely avoids the usual 'hot-girl' fodder of pop-stars and influencers and decides to portray comedienne Selina Mosinski's camp icon, 'Charity Shop Sue'.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": Krystal is visibly starstruck when meeting Drag Race legend Raven in episode 3, whom she notes is a huge influence on her makeup, and is a queen she's followed since she was a mere eight years old.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Downplayed, but she does mooch around both Veronica and River during the Happy Campers sewing challenge (a skill not in her wheelhouse), playing up her vulnerability to gain their advice and essentially getting them to tell her what to do. Veronica's focus is pulled (which likely lead to her elimination); River is less easily distracted, telling her to bugger off, as she's already swiped two wins.
  • May the Farce Be with You: For the Bra Wars acting challenge of episode 8, she portrays "She-3P-Hoe" a gender-bent Captain Ersatz of the Star Wars series' already-camp golden droid, C-3PO. Whilst she struggles through rehearsals, primarily due to her dyslexia, her finished performance is strong, with good comic timing and (of course) excellent make-up skills.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: Krystal is the downplayed "Mean" of the final 3, purely because of her slightly awkward humour and cattier comments throughout her time on the show in her role as a classic fashion-queen, though she's exhibited a good deal of growth as the competition has progressed.
  • Of Corset Hurts: For the Campfire Couture sewing challenge runway, she creates a dramatic spiked basque for her villainess look, though afterwards she described it as the most uncomfortable thing she's ever worn, as she had broken up tent-poles sitting under her ribs to support the spikes, which were constantly stabbing her as she moved about.
  • Older Than They Look: Whilst it seems almost ludicrous to note, given that she's only 19 at the time of filming, Krystal nevertheless looks younger than her years out of drag, primarily due to her anime-esque facial features, and is up there with Blair St. Clair and "Little" Kenya Michaels as the most baby-faced queens across the franchise upon debut.
  • Plant Person: Her native Kent is known as the "Garden of England” for its abundance of orchards and hop gardens (her region in particular, known as The Weald, is especially green and pleasant) so for her Queen of Your Hometown look in episode 1, she serves us a look that's part Victoria's Secret model, part Kentish hop garden, in a stunning grass-green with green eye makeup to match.
  • Pretty in Mink: She's rarely seen without a faux-fur coat in confessionals and whilst swishing about in the Werk Room.
  • Scout-Out: For the Happy Campers runway of episode 3, she serves a demure Girl Guides-inspired look in forest green, complete with a sash of merit badges. Sporting Proper Tights with a Skirt, it's the most covered up she's been so far in the competition — perhaps thankfully, given her subject.
  • Sensual Spandex: A key element of many of her looks, Krystal favours clinging outfits that enhance her banging figure — best seen in the Expenny, Henny runway, for which she sports a Gem-Encrusted, spray-on body suit.
  • Skilled, but Naive: Krystal's makeup and wardrobing skills are amongst the best (if not the best when it comes to makeup) this series, and despite not being a dancer, her natural Power Copying abilities carry her through movement challenges. However, her social skills are deficient on occasion, and she can exhibit a lack of humility, as well as an insensitively blunt streak that rubs her fellow queens up the wrong way.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: The top four queens all receive a sweet video-message from home, which for Krystal includes her younger brother (who looks exactly like a mini-Krystal out of drag) and younger sister (who looks exactly like Krystal in drag).
  • Teen Genius: When it comes to makeup. Krystal is just 19 at the time of filming and yet paints stunning face to a standard not seen in some queens twice her age.
  • Whole Costume Reference: Her Scene-Stealers runway in episode 8 is a fabulously glammed-up take on Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians, including a beautifully cinched gown in black and white, showing off her Hartman Hips, and a huge deep-red fur stole she drags behind her.
  • Young and in Charge: Crowned at the age of just 19, Krystal is the youngest winner across the entire Drag Race franchise.
