Gothy Kendoll (10th)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gothy.png

Age: 21
From: Leicester, Leicestershire, England

"So this is what it looks like..."

  • Appropriated Appellation: Her drag-name comes from a friend of hers, who described her as “a Ken doll, but a gothy one” because of her good looks and penchant for wearing the colour black.
  • Badbutt: Her attempt to act feisty in her Leicester Tigersnote  Queen of Your Hometown runway look only results in her giving laughably weak "roars." The judges find it so funny that they keep imitating it.
  • Call-Back:
    • After her elimination, she walks off the runway backwards invoking Miss Vanjie of Season 10 of the US Drag Race by saying "Miss Kendoll ... Miss Kendoll ..."
    • Her entrance quote was also directly swiped from Farrah Moan's Season 9 quote.
  • Graceful Loser: Accepted her loss well, and proudly called herself "the UK's Porkchop" in her farewell message.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: A self-described introvert, she has a hard time letting go and being a big personality — unlike her competition.
  • Requisite Royal Regalia: As she's something of a new queen herself, for the Queen Elizabeth Realness challenge, she portrays the newly crowned Queen in full 1950s glamour-mode.
  • Shrinking Violet: Her Fatal Flaw. She was criticised for being too timid on the runway, with the judges specifically making fun of her weak roar in her “Leicester Tigers” Queen of Your Hometown outfit. She gives a much better one during her farewell.
  • Toothy Issue: Upon seeing some of the other queen's flippers, she expresses her personal embarrassment that she has messed up teeth when her aesthetic is to serve beauty.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: The first queen to be eliminated on the UK version of the franchise, thus becoming the "Porkchop" of Drag Race UK. That being said though, Gothy’s since picked up quite the social following — helped by her very cute looks and penchant for showing off her bod in skimpy thong-underwear.

Scaredy Kat (9th)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/scaredy.png

Age: 19
From: Cricklade, Wiltshire, England

"It wasn't a bad first gig!"

  • Animal Motif: Her love for cat-themed face paint gets criticised when she applies it to her otherwise-solid Bond Girl Glamourama runway look, as her outfit's aviator theme had nothing to do with felines.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: At a tender 19 years of age at the time of filming, she's the youngest queen to compete in the UK series. Across the franchise, only Morrigan and Jota Carajota (both 18 at the time of filming) from Drag Race Thailand and Drag Race España respectively are younger.
  • Beginner's Luck: She manages to win the very first mini-challenge, and her outfits are consistently well-received. Despite going home early, Ru takes note of how well she did do, despite her inexperience, and notes that we probably haven't seen the last of Scaredy Kat. Fans might note a similarity to the words of encouragement Ru gave an also-inexperienced Shangela in season 2.
  • Bond Girl: For the Bond Girl Glamourama runway, she evokes Pussy Galore, complete with flight jacket, but it’s a little too oblique to land.
  • Country Mouse: She hails from the pretty village of Cricklade in the depths of rural Wiltshire (amongst England’s least populated counties) and lacks any kind of big-city drag experience.
  • Crippling Overspecialisation: This partially results in her elimination. Her shy, Spoiled Brat persona works for a time, but in the Downton Draggy acting challenge it results in her character feeling extremely one note.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: For her drag persona. After her time on the show, Skaredy would morph into a very weird horror queen persona called Ally Cubb. This was also filmed long before Ally and their partner Remi both came out as non binary and started exclusively using they/them pronouns out of drag.
  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: Her Signature Style drag feature excessive frills, bows, and puffy satin dresses inspired by the EGL and Victorian-doll subcultures, and she’s perhaps the only queen across the franchise to follow such an aesthetic.
  • Graceful Loser: Accepts her elimination with a smile and a promise to continue developing her drag ability.
  • Granola Girl: For her Queen of Your Hometown look, she portrays a nymph-like tree hugger in celebration of Wiltshire's status as the English capital of all things pagan, including, most famously, the enigmatic Stonehenge.
  • Hidden Depths: Although she never had the chance to show it off on the show, she is a talented artist and incorporates her skills into photographing her drag. She also has a politically conscious streak; her Day at the Races look would have been a Suffragette as an homage to Emily Davison, who famously died after she threw herself under King George V’s horse, but in the process drew worldwide attention to her cause.
  • I Can't Dance: For her lip-sync, she just sort of....sways and exhibits none of the usual queenly dance skills — which promptly sends her home. It's unclear exactly how much of that was her playing up her character, and how much was "I have literally no idea what I'm doing", but against Blu's more suitably fierce routine, it was absolutely the end of her. She makes a note in confessional that this is her first lip-sync performance as a drag queen.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: Builds up a good rapport with Vinegar Strokes over the differences with their drag experiences.
  • Kawaiiko: Has a penchant for the cuter-than-cute baby-doll aesthetic of Japanese Lolita Fashion, albeit in a much more cheerful pastel palette than is typically encountered, and has the cutesy, Girly Girl persona to match.
  • Naïve Newcomer: Hailing from a small village in the depths of rural Wiltshire, Scaredy is only 19 when she appears on the show, has been doing drag for less than a year, and has never done (or even attended) a drag stage performance.
  • Recursive Crossdressing: Would have done Russell Brand for Snatch Game, which given her Girly Girl person would have been....interesting.
  • Requisite Royal Regalia: For the Queen Elizabeth Realness challenge, she acknowledges herself as the The Baby of the Bunch by recreating a famous baby photograph of Her Majesty.
  • Shrinking Violet: Is a "bedroom queen", and her lack of experience forms part of her drag persona.
  • Toilet Humour: In the Off With Her Head! mini-challenge, where the queens have to pose with their severed heads, Scaredy Kat makes it look like she shat out her own head, leading to a priceless response from Ru:
Scaredy Kat: I just shit myself!
Ru: (turns to the camera) You are watching the BBC.
  • Uncanny Valley Makeup: Combines highly stylised glamour-girl contouring with a cadaver-pale base and huge doll-like eyes for every look she presents.

Vinegar Strokes (8th)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vinegar.png

Age: 34
From: Enfield, North London, England

  • Anti-Nepotism: Prior to the show, she worked with Michelle Visage in the West End and has a friendly relationship with her, but when Vinegar told her she was auditioning, Michelle made it clear that she couldn't help in any way, in keeping with judge impartiality.
  • Bond Girl: For the Bond Girl Glamourama runway, she dresses as one of the franchise's few POC villainesses, May Day, as memorably portrayed by the legendary Grace Jones.
  • Immigrant Parents: Her family is from the Caribbean (though she doesn't specify where), a region not known for being gay-friendly. She and Sum Ting bond over being from immigrant families and the stress of being the "perfect first-generation son"
  • Informed Ability: She was pegged as the "West End queen", and has performed on stage with Michelle in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, but when it came to lip-synching for her life, her performance quickly descended into a sloppy, desperate car accident. Even Twiggy cringed.
  • Requisite Royal Regalia: For the Queen Elizabeth Realness challenge, she goes with a 1970s 'Royal Tour of the Commonwealth' vibe, in a bright yellow ensemble and turban to match.
  • Rummage Sale Reject: Her outfits are often criticised for lacking finesse, to the point where she earns the nickname "Hodge Podge". Of particular note is her shredded newspaper ensemble for the Posh on a Penny challenge, of which Baga comments: “Looks like you fell in the bin!” Unsurprisingly, Vinegar is eliminated that same episode.
  • Small Reference Pools: Is the resident London Queen, yet for her Queen of your Hometown runway look she is forced by circumstancesnote  to base her outfit on the River Thames (featuring its outline as a belt decoration). While it is a known landmark, she gets read for how indistinct the dress looks as a whole, when London has so many famous and easily recognizable features to have used instead (or in addition to).

Sum Ting Wong (7th)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sumting_3.png

Age: 30
From: Birmingham, West Midlands, England

"Did somebody order a delivery? Cause I'm about to takeaway the crown!"

  • All for Nothing: In the Posh on a Penny sewing challenge, she tears apart a jacket of hers that she really likes in order to use it as a sewing pattern for her outfit...only to fail the challenge when her look is read as plain and unpolished. Also, Sum Ting is placed in the bottom despite being one of the very few queens this season who comfortably knows how to sew (as opposed to only learning after passing the audition or, like Baga, not knowing at all).
  • Animal Motifs: For her Queen of Your Hometown runway, she portrays a sexy, dragged up cow, complete with huge horns and a bull-ring through her nose, in celebration of her native Birmingham's Bullring Shopping Centre.
  • Bond Girl: For the Bond Girl Glamourama runway, she Dresses the Same as Vinegar, in a even closer portrayal of Grace Jones' iconic villainess May Day, complete with a form-fitting black jumpsuit and a yellow-lined cowl.
  • Can't Take Criticism: During the sewing challenge in episode 3 almost everyone, from her competitors to Ru herself, tell her that her idea of making a jacket out of dark non-stretch material is a bad idea and she should do something else. Sum Ting just doubles down on her idea and unsurprisingly fails the challenge, with The Vivienne even calling her out for being unable to take critique or advice.
  • Fighting Your Friend: She takes out Vinegar, who she was friends with before the show started.
  • Honor Before Reason: In her post-elimination podcast interview, she reveals that this is what motivated her to choose David Attenborough for her Snatch Game impersonation. While fully acknowledging that he is an incredibly bizarre choice for the challenge, she considers him a huge inspiration growing up, and wanted to pay homage to him however she could. She doesn't regret the choice.
  • Misplaced Accent: In the Downton Abbey challenge, Sum Ting's character is an American lounge singer based on Mariah Carey. Sum Ting gives her a Southern accent, even though Mariah is from New York, because it's the only American accent she can do.
  • N-Word Privileges: She explains that her risqué drag-name is a deliberate attempt to reclaim the Asian Speekee Engrish trope.
Sum Ting: And for the people who think my name is racist, all I can say is... me so sorry.
  • Recursive Crossdressing: She portrays Sir David Attenborough (badly) for her Snatch Game impression, which is so stilted and unfunny that it leads to her elimination.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Her name comes from a news report on a South Korean plane crash where a prankster replaced the dead crew members' names with Asian-sounding puns. She chose it precisely because it was wrong on so many levels.
  • Requisite Royal Regalia: For the Queen Elizabeth Realness challenge, hers is perhaps the cleverest of the lot, as she portrays the modern-day Queen we know and love clutching a large framework as if to appear, as the Queen does, on a stamp.
  • Tears of Joy: Geri Horner, appearing as a guest judge, is a big cheerleader for Sum Ting, but it's all for naught as she winds up eliminated when her Snatch Game performance (as David Attenborough) fails to impress anyone else. At the end of the episode, in a surprising turn of events, Geri actually leaves the judges panel and heads to the Werk Room to personally give Sum Ting words of encouragement, right as Sum Ting is giving her post-elimination speech. Sum Ting is so flattered and honored by the gesture that she starts tearing up.

Crystal (6th)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chrystal.png

Age: 34
From: Hackney, East London, England

"Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's body dysmorphia."

  • Bad Impressionists: For the Snatch Game, she takes a huge risk by going with Rue McClanahan of The Golden Girls fame — hallowed ground in the gay community — and whilst she gives a so-so performance, her subject is too iconic to justify anything other than spot-on, and she lands in the bottom two. Elliott with 2 Ts, would also later attempt Ms McClanahan in US Season 13, with even more disastrous results.
  • Bond Girl: For the Bond Girl Glamourama runway, she embodies the Dominatrix vibe of Xenia Onatopp — a villainess known for crushing her foes between her Murderous Thighs.
  • Club Kid: For the Day at the Races runway, whilst all the other girls go full-on glam, she twists things up in a Laura Ashley print gimp suit, complete with wide-brimmed hat and gimp mask.
  • Curtain Clothing: For the Posh on a Penny challenge, her self-sewn outfit is easily amongst the best-executed, and she uses a huge gold velvet curtain to create a goddess-themed look. She places high for her efforts.
  • The Freakshow: She's an aerial circus performer by profession, and incorporates some of that experience into her drag, with extra emphasis on the "freak" part. Her Weird Science look is Apunkalypse-inspired and features her grinding a circular saw against her arm bracelets and crotch to produce sparks. It's a trick she admits she learned from the circus.
  • Freaky Fashion, Mild Mind: Despite her more alternative sense of style, Crystal comes across as quite passive, polite and even a little bland throughout her tenure on the show.
  • Hairy Girl: Isn't afraid to showcase her chest or armpit hair while in drag, and is the first queen across the entire Drag Race franchise to walk the runway with visible body hair.
  • Hidden Depths: Who’d have thought mild-mannered Crystal would read the other girls to filth so well that she’d snatch the Reading is Fundamental mini-challenge?
Crystal: Baga Shitz, how many times do we have to flush to get rid of you? The Vivienne: proof you can polish a turd. And Blu, in the immortal words of Madonna, 'I loathe hydrangeas.'
  • Only One Name: She used to be known as Crystal Beth but dropped the stage surname just before getting on the show. In fact, "Crystal" was her original drag name and she added the "Beth" part later because she thought drag queens had to have a full stage name.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Part of the reason for her elimination. Given the opportunity to decide her teammates in the Girl Group challenge, she chooses The Vivienne (The Ace of the season so far, as well as a professional singer) and Cheryl Hole (who works in a girl group tribute band, and is thus knowledgeable about how to choreograph a performance). When they end up losing the challenge, even after an uncharacteristically poor performance by The Vivienne, Crystal stands out as the group's weakest link.
  • Rank Up: After appearing on the show, Crystal graduated to a drag-mother mentoring role, coaching up-and-coming queens on the Canadian reality TV drag series, Call Me Mother.
  • Requisite Royal Regalia: For the Queen Elizabeth Realness challenge, she portrays the Queen in a latex take on the full military regalia she sports for the annual 'Trooping the Colour' ceremony, which is traditionally used to mark her birthday.
  • What the Hell Is That Accent?: Is notable for being the only cast member to not have a British accent, due to the fact she is Canadian and moved to the UK ten years prior. This ends up being brought up during the Downton Draggy challenge, in which Michelle can't tell if Crystal is trying for an American or British accent, and finally just tells her to settle on one and just go with it.

Blu Hydrangea (5th + Miss Congeniality)*

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blu_4.png

Age: 23
From: Belfast, County Antrim, Northern Ireland

"I'm ready to paint the town Blu."

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Despite the cheeky-wee-chappy persona, the bitchier side of her character emerges around the third episode, following a few backhanded compliments and catty, trolling remarks.
  • Fish out of Water: Self-invoked; she feels at arm's length from the other queens because she's the only contestant who isn't a mainland Brit (being from Northern Ireland), however the other queens let her know she's the only one that feels like this, and they are happy to bring her into the fold.
  • Floral Theme Naming: Named after the blue hydrangea flower; inspired by a story told by her grandmother about planting one in her garden using a rusty nail (the rust adds acid to the soil, which is what turns the flower blue), and the metaphor of something beautiful growing from something dirty.
  • The Gadfly: Despite the cherubic facade, she loves to shit-stir in the Werk Room pre and post performance. In episode 7, following her departure, the remaining girls joke that she was the shadiest of the bunch — which makes her being designated “Miss Congeniality” all the more baffling.
  • Giant Eye of Doom: For the Weird Science runway, her entire head is encased inside a huge eyeball.
  • Multi Boobage: Her Bond Girl Glamourama look features three breasts, which is perhaps more fitting for a Total Recall (1990) theme, though she does have the numbers 007 as pasties.
  • Naïve Newcomer: One of the younger queens on the season, she has shades of this from time to time, such as during the Reading Challenge when Baga says she looks like the Milky Bar Kid and Casper the Friendly Ghost had a rent-boy baby. Blu doesn't laugh at the read, but only because she doesn't understand it. When a producer delicately explains what a rentboy is to her later, she bursts into gales of laughter.
Blu: Well, at least she's not wrong.
  • Requisite Royal Regalia: For the Queen Elizabeth Realness challenge, she combines a beautiful golden ball-gown with a head-piece shaped so that in profile, her face appears to be on a large £2 coin.
  • Sexy Whatever Outfit: For her Queen of Your Hometown runway, she personifies Belfast’s Harland and Wolff shipyard — where RMS Titanic was famously constructed — complete with the yard’s iconic, bright yellow twin cranes projecting from her back.
  • Signature Style: Including the blue wig from her entrance outfit, all of her hairstyles (except her hometown look) feature a pastel coloured wig.
  • Unlocking the Talent: Despite going into the Snatch Game worried that she isn't particularly funny, she ends up holding her own as a sex-obsessed Mary Berry, earning a personal compliment from RuPaul as she is declared safe.

Cheryl Hole (4th)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cheryl_72.png

Age: 25
From: Chelmsford, Essex, England

"Hold onto your knickers girls, cause the queen of Essex has arrived!"

  • Affectionate Parody: Of Cheryl, obviously. Her live shows even reference a few infamous moments in Cheryl's personal life, like catching malaria and her 2003 bar fight arrest, in a tongue in cheek manner.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Seemingly a bit of a ditz and slightly rough around the edges stylistically, Cheryl nonetheless has great stage presence and, as is noted by the judges, there's something incredibly compelling about the way she completely owns whatever outfit she wears, or task she tackles.
  • Brainless Beauty: Plays up the Essex Girl blonde bimbo stereotypenote  for all it's worth.
    • For her Queen of Your Hometown runway, she fully embraces her home county, with a huge bouffant wig, patchy fake-tan, giant handbag, and a fake-tan-smeared dress.
    • For the Snatch Game she portrays (who else?) but the other Queen of Essex, Gemma Collins, some-time cast member of the The Only Way Is Essex, current reality TV mainstay, and beloved meme-fodder.
  • Celebrity Impersonator: She is a Cheryl Cole impersonator, and a performer in a Girls Aloud tribute act — which means she absolutely loses her mind when the real Cheryl actually judges one week.
  • For Want Of A Nail: During the Family Makeover challenge, her sister accidentally busts a zip as she was trying on her drag outfit, which necessitates the use of a backup. On the runway, the duo are acclaimed for their in-sync choreography and family resemblance, but their outfits are underwhelming enough to put them in the bottom two and lead to Cheryl's elimination.
  • Genki Girl: Cheryl sports a robust, energetic confidence and determination, regardless of whether she's competent at a given task, or not.
  • Graceful Loser: She maintains her perky, upbeat vibe even after the elimination, joking (again) that’s she’s the only one of the top 4 to have never won a challenge.
  • Happily Adopted: Cheryl made such an impression on famed Drag Race US alumna Alyssa Edwards that she adopted her into the Haus of Edwards almost immediately.
  • Home Field Advantage: When she fails the Bottled Water challenge in episode 6 and has to lip-sync against Blu, the song is "Call My Name" by her namesake Cheryl Cole, who is also the guest judge of the episode. There's no way in hell Ms. Hole is going to lose in front of her idolnote  and sends Blu packing.
    • Unfortunately this is inverted the following episode, when she has to lip-sync against Baga Chipz to Amy Winehouse. Cheryl's pop-based dance moves don't save her, since Baga does a "much bettah" job embodying the artist, as Winehouse was a huge influence on her drag, and Cheryl is sent home.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": When Cheryl Hole gets to be judged by Cheryl Cole. As she admits in confessional, it's all our Cheryl can do to not invoke this trope during her runway walk. Cheryl Cole of course is flattered by the tribute.
  • Plucky Girl: Despite a tough ride in the competition, she maintains an admirable level of pluck, and her joyful silliness carries her through.
  • Punny Name: Similar to previous contestant Courtney Act, her drag name is a naughty pun that's more evident in her native accent; Cheryl Hole/Share Her Hole.
  • Requisite Royal Regalia: For the Queen Elizabeth Realness challenge, she goes with a traditional looking garden-party Queen ensemble in bright fuschia.
  • Signature Move: Probably the only queen on Drag Race more likely to bust out a death drop than Laganja.
  • Self-Deprecation: She's well-aware of the fact that she's constantly in the bottom almost every episode, but it's clear that she's having a blast and isn't above joking about her position.
Cheryl (upon elimination): I think I've set a new world record: the worst track record to make it into the top 4! [entire room cracks up] [Cheryl dabs] Bye!
  • Sensual Spandex: A common go-to for our Cheryl, as seen in her promo look, and also in the Bond Girl Glamourama runway, where she goes full Fem-bot in a binding gold leotard and huge bouffant wig.
  • Stop Being Stereotypical: Gets called out for her drag personality being put on for the cameras, the other queens going as far as accusing her of trying to pretend she's Alyssa Edwards. She does admit she is trying to turn out a character because she knows she's on TV, and isn't being totally genuine.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: In the Family Makeover challenge of episode 7, we meet Cheryl’s adorable sister who’s her literal clone — Cheryl hilariously notes that they “have the same face” even prior to the makeover.
  • Transatlantic Equivalent: Cheryl is incredibly similar looking (in and out of drag) to Jan from Drag Race US Season 12 and they also both exhibit a sweet, exuberant personality. Both queens have thoroughly embraced and acknowledged their twinhood, and when Jan noted that both she and Cheryl wore the same wig that they did for their entrances for their commercials (without knowing or discussing), Cheryl immediately tweeted “Yes! We can finally confirm we are the same person!”
  • Troll: When the eliminated queens surprise the finalists in the Werk Room, Cheryl manages to convince them that the queens will be deciding the top 2.

Baga Chipz (3rd)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/baga.png

Age: 29
From: Walthamstow, East London, England

"Baga Chipz here, queen of the battered sausage, and I love to be covered in Daddy's Sauce."

  • Achilles' Heel: Baga is witty, charismatic and funny, but looks are not her strength, specially not ones she has to construct herself, as she's not much of a seamstress. She hates her steel wool leotard from the Posh on a Penny challenge, and when she's declared safe, she's both shocked and elated that Ru thought 3 other queens had a worse outfit than hers. In the next episode we see her happily dropping it in the trash, and admitting that the sewing challenge was what she was dreading the most in the season.
  • Appropriated Appellation: She was in a pub when a guy started chatting up her and her mate:
Baga: Look, why do you want a burger when you can have me, prime steak on a plate?
Guy: Prime steak? More like bag of chips.
  • Black Comedy: Lives in the East End and works in Camden, so her Queen of Your Hometown look was an Amy Winehouse impression, depicting her as stumbling around the runway, beer bottle in hand. It worked.
  • Bond Girl: For the Bond Girl Glamourama runway, she smartly goes with a Liza Minelli-esque, Rule 63 version of Oddjob from Goldfinger, complete with his famous Weaponized Headgear.
  • Camp: As noted by The Vivienne, Baga most closely encapsulates classic "night down the pub" traditionally British drag. Unlike in the US and elsewhere, British drag has its roots not in glamorous pageants or the ballroom scene, but in smoky pubs, working men's clubs and the venerable institution of the Pantomime dame, and is underpinned by crass, playful humour, as opposed to female impersonation. Baga's legacy carries on in Series 2, 3 and 4 with Ginny Lemon, Kitty Scott-Claus and Pixie Polite respectively.
  • Catchphrase: "Much bettah!" (in a very Cockney delivery), derived from the Downton Draggy challenge of episode two and kind of stuck with her ever since.
  • Digging Yourself Deeper: The jury's still out on whether Baga was simply being Innocently Insensitive when describing her mother in such an unflattering manner while explaining their look to the judges in the Family Makeover challenge, or whether her attitude was due to more complicated Parental Issues. One thing's for sure; she was highly insensitive (deliberately or otherwise), which made the judges vocally uncomfortable, and the fact she kept going on and on about it really didn’t help.
  • Gasshole: Ends her Bottled Water challenge advertisement by belching into the camera. As one does.
  • Graceful Loser: Makes the top three, but doesn’t make the final lip-sync for the crown. Despite this, she’s genuinely pleased for The Vivienne and Divina, and seems overjoyed just to have made it to the final.
  • Her Own Worst Enemy: She has a somewhat defeatist streak. When it appears she'll be in the bottom 2 come episode six, and have to sing an upbeat, teenybopper song against the likes of Cheryl or Blu (both younger queens who have said dancing/lip-syncing is their thing), Baga pretty much gives up in the Werk Room. In spite of everyone trying to convince her not to, she claims she would rather expect the worst than hope for the best. Luckily for Baga, Blu and Cheryl end up in the bottom 2 and she’s safe.
  • In-Series Nickname: Courtesy of the other girls, "Baga Shitz" or "Baga Shite". Baga seems to love the vulgarity and takes to the nicknames proudly.
  • Iron Lady: She absolutely nails the Snatch Game with her portrayal of the UK's first female Prime Minister, never once resorting to her usual Vulgar Humour, but rather playing Mrs T with perfectly-observed witticisms and clever comments that carry her to a well-deserved joint win with The Vivienne.
  • Large Ham: Of all the queens this series, she's easily the most over the top in terms of her riotously hammy acting, her constant mad-eyed mugging, and her utterly unapologetic vulgarity.
  • Lower-Class Lout: Her persona — that of a bawdy barmaid with an end-of-the-pier sense of humour.
  • Motor Mouth: Baga's one chatty queen, in confessionals and basically everywhere else. It works pretty well for her in acting challenges.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Is under no illusion that she has more than a snowball's chance in hell of winning the final against Divina and The Vivienne, but has the time of her life anyway and goes out with a bang.
  • Requisite Royal Regalia: For the Queen Elizabeth Realness challenge, she embraces her fondness for all things Retraux and goes with a late 70s/early 80s queenly look in bright, chintzy florals.
  • Retraux: Baga is only 29 at the time of filming, but her entire character (and corresponding wardrobe) evokes the bawdy humour of an Awful British Sex Comedy from the 60s and 70s. Her Day at the Races drag sums this up perfectly, and whilst all of the other queens go either ultra glam or modern, she opts for a 70s-style ensemble that wouldn't look out of place on Sybil Fawlty or Mrs. Slocombe — and the judges love it.
  • Sir Swearsalot: In a series where most of the queens have a case of serious potty-mouth, she stands out as being particularly graphic.
  • Stylistic Suck: Personified, but utterly intentional; — Baga luxuriates in the awful for comedy effect. This tends to be a double-edged sword depending on the episode; During pure fashion challenges, she tends to suffer as almost all of her runway looks are criticized for being So Okay, It's Average. When she gets to do comedy however, her force of personality alone carries her entire performance, and her “nan-down-the-pub” outfits often end up enhancing it.
  • Vulgar Humor: Her speciality — usually of the lavatorial or gynaecological variety.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: In the Family Makeover challenge of episode 7, the judges don’t respond well to Baga and her mother's Kardashian-inspired runway, and Baga makes a bunch of insensitive excuses about how hard it was to make her mum fashionable, due to her age and size. When Ru directly asks Jo (Baga’s mum) questions, Baga talks over her, and given Jo was already the shyest of the guest family members, the judges and the other contestants (as well as viewers) instantly feel bad for her, having seemingly been thrown under the bus by her own son. Once back in the Werk Room, the other queens mince no words about how shitty they feel Baga was towards her mum.
  • Whole Costume Reference: Her pictured promo look is a reference to Cruella de Vil.
  • Younger Than They Look: Baga’s not yet 30 at the time of filming, yet plays it much older in terms of her dress-sense and cultural cues, which are a good 30-40 years older than she is. She even describes herself as an “old nan” in episode 6, and certainly looks the part in a sparkly Liza Minnelli-goes-on-a-cruise catsuit. Notably, during the Family Makeover challenge in episode 7, Baga jokes that she looks the same age as her mum — it’s not much of an exaggeration.

Divina De Campo (2nd)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/divina.png

Age: 35
From: Brighouse, West Yorkshire, England

"It's DDC on the BBC, I hope we get that season 1 filter."

  • The Ace: She’s a Renaissance Woman, exhibiting formidable acting, singing, dancing, sewing and comedy skills, and holds the distinction of being the only queen this season to never enter the bottom two.
  • Badass Boast: Delivers an epic one to The Vivienne in episode 6, after she’s finally had enough of not being taken seriously as a performer — and a serious threat:
Divina: You clearly don’t value what I do as a drag-queen. Tell me anybody else in this werk room who has a four and a half octave range. Tell me anybody else who can sing in five languages. Tell me anybody else who can do all that while doing the splits. Tell me anybody else who has fifteen years of directing production shows!
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She’s a decent, sensitive soul, but will readily unleash an eloquent tirade at rival queens like The Vivienne who underestimate or downplay her abilities.
  • Brother–Sister Team: In the Family Makeover challenge of episode 7, Divina and her gorgeous (and pregnant!) sister nail the main-stage runway, with a coherent drag-makeover that is both beautiful, and entirely complementary to Divina’s own drag. They deservedly snatch 1st place in the penultimate week.
  • Consummate Professional: Has the most prior TV experience of this series' cast, and this shows during the acting challenge when she throws (not wholly undeserved) shade at her teammates for lacking professionalism and dicking about during rehearsals. She later takes responsibility for her team's loss as her own, despite both her teammates and the judges singling her out as the best performer.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She tearfully recounts having had a hellish time throughout school, due to her sexuality, particularly, as she notes, that she’s a little older than some of the other queens and thankfully society has marched on a lot.
  • Hoist by Their Own Petard: After discovering that both she and Baga want to do Margaret Thatcher in the Snatch Game, Divina decides to pick Julia Child instead and lets Baga have Thatcher to herself, even letting her borrow the outfit she intended to use (since Baga's wasn't very impressive). The end result is Baga killing the challenge, while Divina is criticized for playing it too safe, landing her in the bottom three for the first time.
  • The Hyena: Just hear her cackle during confessionals.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Complains about being described as "just a silver dress and a red wig", but not only do two-thirds of her looks contain different red wigs, she's wearing a look of that description in her actual promo image.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: She's the third youngest of seven siblings, the youngest of whom guest-appears in the Family Makeover challenge.
  • Omniglot: As a true drag-polymath, Divina can sing in five languages; English, German, French, Italian and even Latin.
  • Oop North: She's a proud Brighouse lass, and her Queen of Your Hometown runway is a dragged up take on a classic Northern brass band leader, in celebration of her local Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band.
  • Parasol of Prettiness: Subverted with her episode 3 runway look, since she goes more for Vivienne Westwood avant-garde than pretty — and because she carries a beach umbrella as a parasol.
  • Pregnant Badass: Invoked in the Family Makeover challenge. Since her sister is four months pregnant at the time, Divina gives herself a matching belly for the runway and ends up winning the challenge for her attention to detail.
  • Punny Name: Divina's drag name is a partial pun on the Italian chef Gino D'Acampo — a famous TV personality in the United Kingdom — with greater emphasis on the 'Camp'.
  • Recursive Crossdressing: Whilst most of the girls go glamorous, she sports a jockey-themed outfit for the Day at the Races runway, complete with riding boots without heels, which cleverly lends them the look of a horse's hooves.
  • Requisite Royal Regalia: For the Queen Elizabeth Realness challenge, rather racily, she portrays the Queen in full Order of the Garter robes (complete with a very accurately replicated hat) before whipping it all off to reveal very sexy lingerie beneath, as well as an actual garter mid-thigh as a smart pun.
  • Signature Style: She wouldn’t like it noted, but most of her looks that aren't an impression feature bright red hair in some capacity.
  • Textile Work Is Feminine: She's arguably the best seamstress in the competition, and deservedly wins the Posh on a Penny sewing challenge in episode 3 with a David Bowie-inspired look created from old laundry bags that incorporates a well-tailored trouser suit with a plastic bag-based ruff and sleeve details in a contrasting bright blue.
  • Wearing a Flag on Your Head: For her runway look in the finale, she sports a beautiful, floor-length gown with a Union Flag motif running through it — a perfect choice to close out the first UK final.

The Vivienne (winner)

Age: 26
From: Liverpool, Merseyside, England

"Don't get too comfy, girls. This is only going to take two minutes."

  • Acquired Situational Narcissism: Starts getting this edit by episode three, where she comes off as quite confident and haughty, following a strong start, to the point of coming off cocky and overly sure of herself. She noticeably starts to rub a few of the queens up the wrong way.
  • Anti-Nepotism: The Vivienne previously won the title of Drag Race Ambassador, and it gets discussed how she already knows the judges and already has a bit of a reputation. However both her and the judges state outright no special treatment will be expected just because of that.
  • Big Ego, Hidden Depths: She comes across as being very confident, even downright cocky in her drag abilities, though this is tempered by her occasionally glimpsed vulnerable side, which reveals her genuine fear of failure and letting her loved-ones down.
  • Bond Girl: For the Bond Girl Glamourama runway, she Dresses the Same as Vinegar and Sum Ting, in a sparkly purple portrayal of Grace Jones' iconic villainess, May Day.
  • Break the Haughty: Despite a very strong start in the competition, and a growing sense of Pride, she’s brought slap back down to Earth in episode 5’s Girl Groups challenge, where an unsure, phoned-in performance lands her in the bottom two. Horrified at the thought of all her hard work thus far evaporating, she uncharacteristically breaks down sobbing to the other girls, which gives her the reality-check she needs to slay the lip-sync.
  • Experienced Protagonist: She's known for winning the Drag Race Ambassador pageant a few years back. In spite of this, she says outright that winning that title was not such a big deal in the grand scheme of things and does not intend to coast on a previous win.
  • The Fashionista: After winning the first mini-ball challenge and doing well in the sewing challenge, she starts becoming known as the season's "Look Queen". In addition, her name is a direct reference to the famous fashion designer Vivienne Westwood.
  • Genre Savvy: Is quick to call out the other queens who admit they don't know how to sew, siding with Michelle when she notes that every queen there claims they've watched every season of Drag Race and that there is no excuse by this point. She herself says sewing isn't in her wheelhouse normally, but she learned how when she found out she would be on the show.
  • Mummy's Boy: Throughout the competition, Viv presents as a tough cookie who’s never one to shy away from confrontation or speaking her own mind, so it’s sweet to see a far softer side of her emerge in the Family Makeover challenge where we meet her mum (drag name: The Mother), whom she clearly adores and can’t speak highly enough of.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: British fashion designer, Dame Vivienne Westwood.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Delivers one to Divina, telling her that she's surprised at her strong performance during the season, because in the outside world, Divina is known for just always wearing red hair and a silver dress.
  • Recovered Addict: Tearfully reveals that she was a drug addict for 4 years before meeting her partner and becoming clean. The podcast segment of the final elaborates that she took ketamine basically every day to cope with the stress of performing, before doctors advised her that she wouldn't live past the age of 30 if she didn't change her lifestyle.
  • Recursive Crossdressing: Her winning Queen of Your Hometown look was based on fellow Liverpudlian Pete Burns, while her (also winning) Snatch Game impression was Donald Trump — noted by Michelle as potentially the best Snatch Game impersonation ever.
  • Requisite Royal Regalia: For her winning Queen Elizabeth Realness runway, she goes with a 'Balmoral' Queen look, complete with Barbour jacket, wellies, classic head-scarf and a brace of shotgunned ducks. Michelle hilariously asks if she's wearing a Gag Nose, and Ru has to gently remind her that it's Viv's real nose.
  • Spell My Name with a "The": She's not just "Vivienne", she's THE Vivienne.
  • Trumplica: Sure, all queens that make it so far in the competition are required to prepare a Snatch Game celeb-impersonation, but special mention must go to The Vivienne, whose Donald Trump was so on point (and hilarious) that Michelle deemed it to be the best impersonation in the franchise's history. She also had a hilarious Cilla Black on standby.
  • Wild Card: Despite breaking down in episode 5, after a particularly poor showing and ending up in the bottom 2, she's right back to her haughty behavior immediately afterwards, calling out episode winner Divina for having “no range” (she does) and always singing “in just a red wig and a silver dress" (she doesn’t).
