Gintama Chromatic Chronicles is a series of Gintama fanfics by Ki_no_Shirayuki
, which attempts to follow the humorous style of the source material. True to its name, each entry of the series is based on a color, whether of an object prominently featured in the story or of clothing the characters wear. The stories are not directly connected, but they all take place in chronological order with the first chapter of each story starting from the second one having a brief mention of the events of the story taking place before it. The series is as follows:
- Blue Light Keeps You From Falling Asleep, So Don't Use Electronic Devices Before Bed, Blue: The Odd Jobs help an Amanto boy named Andon find his missing brother.
- Don't Wash Colored Clothes With White Ones, Red: An Amanto spaceship captain named Grey kidnaps Kagura mistaking her for a woman he accidentally proposed to.
- Dun Stop Destorying da Prepz Till da Goffik Blak Beest Stopz Groiwlng, Blak: A Troll Fic take on My Immortal in which Ebony teleports into the Gintama universe and corrupts everyone into goffs, the author included.
- Yellow Is a Hard Color to Wear, Yellow: The heroes become yosakoi dancers and encounters a pair of evil musicians.
- Gold Looks Best Against a Purple Backdrop, Purple: A kimono house is haunted by a vengeful spirit and the Odd Jobs set out to stop him.
- If You Meet Your Doppelgänger, Either of You Are Going to Die Within Two Years, Green: Katsura encounters his doppelgänger Katsura-otoko, a successful supermodel who resembles him in all but personality, and ends up having a Prince and Pauper switcheroo.

Tropes:
- Aerith and Bob: The Amanto brothers in Blue, Andon and Chōchin, have vaguely Korean names that other characters can't pronounce and end up nicknamed after Japanese lighting fixtures.
- Anachronism Stew: The yosakoi dance wasn't invented yet during the time Gintama is set in. Shinpachi lampshades this, but is handwaved away since Gintama basically runs on anachronism.
- An Ice Person: The Amanto brothers in Blue are capable of becoming this once they make themselves cold enough and go One-Winged Angel.
- Bittersweet Ending: Blak ends with Enoby vanishing from existence and sanity restored but also with Yamanami going missing for no apparent reason and Serizawa himself infected with the virus.
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: Frequently. Seeing as the source material is famous for doing this, it doesn't come as a surprise.
- Brother–Sister Team: The two shamisen players in Yellow.
- Cain and Abel: All OCs who are siblings in this series. Andon attempts to kill his older brother Chōchin in Blue, Kenmi eventually snaps at her abusive older sister Ryōko in Yellow and Yubinuki tries to off his younger sister Hasami to usurp her ownership of their family's kimono house in Purple.
- Camp Straight: Katsura-otoko is this in spades. He employs feminine speech, overly fixates on his sexual appeal and behaves in an all-around sassy manner, but is still very much heterosexual, as he has a legion of good-looking women working at his estate.
- Can't Hold His Liquor: Serizawa blushes from drinking amazake, which contains little to no alcohol.
- The Casanova: Katsura-otoko who keeps a harem, openly boasts about having slept with many women, and can't hold a conversation without insulting the listener's sexual capacities.
- Chekhov's Gun: The blue kimono that Kagura blows her nose on in Purple. It turns out to look exactly like the kimono Hari obsesses over, which allows him to pass on to the afterlife after finally seeing it.
- Costume Porn/Kimono Fanservice: A lot in Purple, seeing as it features kimono craftsmen.
- Crossover: The third entry is one with My Immortal.
- Dude Looks Like a Lady: Andon. Even the author misgenders him until he breaks the fourth wall to correct her.
- Dragged into Drag: Katsura when he switches place with Katsura-otoko. He is made to wear a sexualized Miko uniform and do sexual poses.
- Even the Guys Want Him: Katsura-otoko. One flick of his hair is enough to draw the attention of a huge crowd of women and some men. His magazine cover photo even causes a Stupid Sexy Flanders reaction in Katsura.
- Evil Versus Evil: Takasugi vs Enoby. The former wins by out-eviling the latter.
- Fashionable Asymmetry: Hasami's hairstyle, in which one side of her hair is longer than the other.
- The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: It doesn't protect the author from catching the goffik virus.
- Gender-Blender Name: Green features a guy named Konohana Sakuya. It helps that he is a Camp Straight supermodel.
- To a lesser extent, Serizawa Suzume in Blak.
- Gender Flip: Konohana Sakuya is a gender flip of Konohanasakuya-hime, the goddess of flowers and guardian of Mount Fuji. His fiancée Kushifuru Niniko is a gender flip of Ninigi, the husband of said goddess (Kushifuru being the name of a shrine Ninigi is worshipped at). Readers well-versed enough in Japanese mythology may already be able to deduce that Katsura-otoko, who's already stated to be Niniko's fiancé beforehand, and Sakuya are one and the same before the actual reveal occurs.
- Goroawase Number: The name of the planet in Red is 3291, which is read minikui – ugly.
- He-Man Woman Hater: Sakuya big time. See Politically Incorrect Villain below.
- Humongous Mecha: Piloted by Sakuya at the end of Green. His fiancee Niniko pilots an even bigger one.
- Identical Stranger: Katsura-otoko to Katsura. He looks like him, dresses like him and is noted in-story to even sound like him.
- Labcoat of Science and Medicine: Katsura and Sakuya/Katsura-otoko at the end of Green.
- Long-Lost Relative: At the end of Purple, Gintoki finds out that Toyo may or may not be his aunt.
- Mad Scientist: Konohana Sakuya a.k.a. Katsura-otoko who has invented many types of drugs, runs drug rings, is a misogynist, builds and pilots a Humongous Mecha and takes up work as a supermodel under a Secret Identity to fund his illegal researches.
- Mary-Sue Hunter: Serizawa Suzume, who has relations with the Protectors of the Plot Continuum and leads an OC-only Shinsengumi division that specializes in exterminating Sues. Ironically, he is the only and last one affected by Enoby's virus by the end of his story.
- Parody Fic: Red parodies the novel The Scarlet Sails by Alexander Grin, while Blak parodies My Immortal.
- Parody Sue: Andon, who has an exotic name (to the point of being Only Known by Their Nickname) and an over-the-top Hilariously Abusive Childhood. He is even called a Gary Stu by Shinpachi. To add insult to injury, he is also a prince.
- Politically Incorrect Villain: Sakuya is a raging sexist who keeps a harem full of beautiful women, never remembers his fiancée's name and never allows her to be his lab partner and thinks of women only as stepping stones to achieve success. He gets what's coming to him by being defeated by a woman.
- Prince and Pauper: The whole plot of Green which allows Katsura to uncover Katsura-otoko/Konohana Sakuya's evil scheme.
- Rouge Angles of Satin: Happens a lot in Blak, intentionally.
- Sanity Slippage: Anyone who's infected with the goffik virus in Blak, including the author. The prose gets crazier and crazier the worse her condition gets.
- Shout-Out: Red has one to Fifty Shades of Grey and The Tale of Genji; Black Butler (or rather "Blak Butter") is mentioned in Blak, and a battle scene in the same story is similar to a scene in Onmyōji. Both Red and Green have mentions of Star Wars.
- Theme Naming: Occurs a lot. The brothers in Blue are nicknamed after Japanese lanterns, the Kinu family in Purple are named after sewing equipments (Hari (needle) and his children Yubinuki (thimble) and Hasami (scissors). Their family name also means "clothing" or "silk"), and a group of characters in Green are named after Shinto gods.
- Trademark Favorite Food: Andon likes cold food and a lot of it. Justified since this is how he awakens his ice power.
- Tyop on the Cover: Used intentionally in Blak.
- Unexplained Recovery: Katsura and Elizabeth show up at the beginning of Blak converted to goffikness. They return to normal in the same chapter. No explanation for this is given.
- Verbal Tic: Katsura-otoko has a habit of adding ara in front of his sentences.
- Walking Spoiler: Konohana Sakuya. The fact that this is the true identity of Katsura-otoko helps. This also makes his fiancee Kushifuru Niniko a Walking Spoiler.
- Warrior Prince: Andon and Chōchin.
- Youkai: They don't appear directly in the fics, but many of the OCs are based off of them. Case in point: Andon is based on the aoandon and his race of Amanto has Yuki Onna vibes; victims possessed by Hari's vengeful ghost in Purple gain ittan-momen-like abilities; Katsura-otoko is based on the vampiric katsura otoko
