Reality is just a suggestion for him

A Starstruck Legacy is a My Hero Academia fanfic by Flapjack09.

The story explores the premise of Izuku being the successor of two Number 1 heroes. It is an expanded version of a chapter in the author's anthology series where the first Point of Divergence is Stars and Stripes being in Izuku's corner during his time at Aldera Middle School. That chapter can be found here.

Contains Examples Of:

  • Abled in the Adaptation: All Might's missing organs are restored by Izuku after he gets New Order.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Stars and Stripes shows up while Izuku is in middle school instead of much later in canon.
  • Adaptational Heroism:
    • Downplayed given he wasn't much of a villain in canon, but Gentle is the Number 7 Hero here.
    • Shigaraki, Toga, Spinner, Compress, Twice, and Kurogiri become vigilantes rather than villains.
  • Adaptational Karma: After realising Nighteye picked Mirio because of the physical similarities to himself, All Might becomes disappointed with his ex-sidekick and warns him he is calling Human Resources and revealing the tickle torture machine. If nothing else, Nighteye will face legal consequences for that alone.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Because of Stars and Stripes using her Quirk to make Bakugou self-aware, he is forced to face his flaws head on and become a better person.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: In addition to gaining One for All, Izuku also gets a copy of New Order from Stars and Stripes.
  • Adaptation Deviation:
    • The fourth person on Izuku's calvary team is Maina, not Fumikage.
    • The tournament line-ups in the third round of the Sports Festival is almost completely different. The only canon match-up is Ibara vs Kaminari.
  • Adaptation Distillation: Todoroki's fight is completely skimmed over due to it turning out the same as canon, with the only difference being which classmate gets frozen in a glacier. Ibara's and Kaminari's fight likewise gets skimmed over.
  • Adaptation Name Change:
    • Izuku's Hero Name is Legacy instead of Deku.
    • Bakugou's Hero Name is Ground Zero instead of Dynamight.
    • Aoyama's Hero Name is CaptainSparklez instead of Can't Stop Twinkling.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Stars and Stripes takes Izuku on as a successor.
    • Stars and Stripes and Inko enter a relationship with each other.
    • Dabi decides against joining the League, so they don't form a connection to him.
    • The revived Nana joins her grandson Tenko in his League of Vigilantes to form a proper relationship with him that they never had in canon.
  • Adapted Out: Mineta is expelled on Day 1 of U.A. in Chapter 3.
  • And This Is for...: As All for One gets wailed on by the heroes, they yell out various specific grievances they have with him as they do it. It caps off with All Might giving him a United States of Smash for all the pain and suffering All for One caused.
  • Ascended Extra:
    • Maina Furasu is more prominent in this story than canon.
    • Habuko Mongoose is a student at U.A. instead of just being a character in an OVA and Tsuyu's backstory.
    • Camie is also a student at U.A. instead of being a student at Shiketsu.
  • Back from the Dead: In Chapter 13, Izuku manages to transfer the One for All Vestiges into their nomu-fied bodies, which revives them and allows them to seize control of their corpses, turning the tide against All for One.
  • Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: When Katsuki shakes Eiga down, the list of objects that falls off Eiga's person begins with the obvious jetpacks, have several innocuous items like food and cash, and finishes with Eiga's photo of the HPSC President with hearts around it, a HPSC ID, and a syringe gun.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: A side-effect of Stars and Stripes making Bakugou self-aware is making him aware he is in a fanfic. He can even hear the narration used to describe him.
  • Contrived Coincidence: While Kurogiri is hanging out at a cafe, Eri just so happens to be present. And then she trips, and accidentally restores Kurogiri's original self of Oboro.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: Nedzu, extremely upset with Aizawa over him expelling an entire class before, gets back at him in various ways. One of them is transferring additional students in his class so that he is forced to deal with more than twenty students.
  • Crack Fic: The story is tagged "Crack Treated Seriously", and it shows with the ridiculous premise of Stars and Stripes being in Japan due to chasing a fireworks truck and broken fourth wall shenanigans.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • After rescuing Inko, Izuku, All Might, and Star and Stripe triple-team All For One, leading to a very one-sided beatdown. All For One manages to tilt things back in his favor by unleashing Nomu made from the bodies of the previous holders…until Izuku transfers the vestiges of the previous holders into their Nomufied bodies, which causes the battle to tilt all the way back in the other direction again, with All For One finding himself against seven very pissed off heroes in enhanced bodies, stuffed with multiple Quirks, a healed All Might, Izuku, and Star and Stripe. Needless to say…he doesn’t last very long.
    • This also happens earlier, after Izuku and Ochako successfully join the Hero Course. Aizawa pits the two of them in a laser-tag match against the rest of 1-A, planning for the one-sided battle to serve as a humbling introduction for to the field of heroics, and how unfair it can be. However, Aizawa notably failed to read the updates on Izuku’s file. As a result, despite being up against the rest of the class, Izuku and Ochako wind up turning the whole affair into a one-sided fight in their favor.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Subverted. All for One is forced to admit he made up the part about his mother being eaten by rats.
  • Date Peepers: On I-Island, Ochako spends a lot of time spying on Izuku as he gets dragged into impromptu dates with Kirishima, then Kaminari, then Yaoyorozu, then Jirou.
  • Did Not See That Coming: Izuku is caught off-guard when the robots in the obstacle course approve of his robot suit and help him with the race.
  • Death by Adaptation: Stain dies during the events of Hosu because of the Nomu landed on him, crushing and killing him.
  • De-power: The League of Vigilantes cause the Meta Liberation Army to lose their Quirks by having Himiko use Izuku's copied Newer Order.
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: There are some things that New Order simply can't do, and the Quirk will yell 'No!' in their heads if they try it.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: When Stars and Stripes sees All Might in Izuku's house, she assumes it's a hyper-realistic statue up until All Might greets her.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: Boys and girls alike are crushing on Izuku.
  • Evil Laugh: The Support Course students all have mad scientist laughs that Nedzu approves off.
  • Fate Worse than Death: All for One's final fate is Izuku using New Order to curse him with losing Quirks (except longevity) every time he blinks until he runs out. Second and Third agree it is a more fitting fate than just killing him.
  • Fountain of Youth: Following the revival of the vestiges in their original bodies, Eri is able to restore them to what several of looked like before All for One turned their corpses into Noumus. Some opted out, preferring their new bodies.
  • I Have Your Wife: All for One kidnaps Inko, who is in a relationship with Stars and Stripes, and demands New Order in exchange for her safety.
  • In Love with Your Carnage: Pre-emptive version. Kudo greatly approves of Izuku wishing horrific violence on All for One in response to the kidnapping of his mother and eggs him on.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Despite not meeting All Might until both start at U.A., Izuku still becomes his successor because his performance at the Sports Festival impressed him.
    • Izuku is still made to clean Dagobah Beach in spite of not needing to build up his muscles.
  • Internal Reveal: Stars and Stripes is brought into the loop of what One for All is in Chapter 7.
  • In-Universe Catharsis: Izuku makes it safe for Kota to beat Muscular for murdering his parents. His aunty Mandalay hopes he is willing to open up to a therapist after dealing with the source of his trauma.
  • Invincible Hero: Due to being a Reality Warper, Izuku is basically invincible and all-powerful, able to easily take down any threat. Most of his fights are Played for Laughs due to his extreme power.
  • Know When to Fold Them: When Maina goes up against Momo, Maina yields immediately. With all her Support Gear destroyed in her previous fight, she knew she stood no chance.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Using New Order, Izuku helps Eri forget every memory of her suffering under the Shie Hassakai.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: After Tenko accidentally dusts Spinner's arm, the latter shrugs and says it'll grow back.
  • Mental Time Travel: Izuku figures out how to use New Order to transfer his memories across time.
  • Mistaken Identity: After using New Order to look like his classmate Akatani, Izuku gets taken by the League of Villains under the mistaken belief he is their spy Akatani. Izuku plays along until he can safely escape the situation.
  • Mobile-Suit Human: Wash's darkest secret is that he's actually a collection of ferrets stuffed in a washing machine.
  • Mythology Gag: One of the other Support Course students is named Mikumo Akatani and looks a lot like Izuku. Mikumo is the prototype Izuku.
  • Obvious Judas:invoked Played for Laughs. Mikumo is obviously a traitor, acting very suspicious and even admitting that he is a traitor, which everyone else treats as a joke.
  • Off the Rails: As the differences built up, canon's plot line is chipped away up until All for One is defeated early after he kidnapped Inko. After that point, canon is destroyed and the story did its own thing.
  • Oh, Crap!: All for One panics when he realizes that Izuku has One for All and New Order.
  • Overt Operative: Akatani freaking told his classmates that he's a spy for the League of Villains. The only reason they didn't turn him in is that they didn't believe him at first.
  • Point of Divergence: The initial point of divergence is a rogue fireworks truck blowing up the Lincoln Memorial, which results in Stars and Stripes going after it, at one point entering Japan where she encounters Izuku and helps him against Bakugou. Every other change to canon comes from this inciting incident:
    • Stars and Stripes gives Izuku the idea of using Support Equipment to become a Quirkless Hero, which leads to him entering U.A.'s Support Course.
    • Izuku not being at the Hero Entrance Exam results in Ochako failing the Entrance Exam, which leads to her starting out in U.A.'s General Course.
    • Bakugou being more self-aware because of Stars and Stripes results in him and Kirishima not charging at Kurogiri, which disrupts the chain of events that led to Thirteen's injuries in canon's USJ incident as well as preventing Kurogiri from separating the students.
    • Izuku manages to win the U.A. Sports Festival since he has his Support Equipment to help him out.
    • Flect Turn decides to disband his cult when his Quirk saving him from a Gigantomachia that was about to land on him convinces him that his Quirk isn't a curse.
    • Wolfram doesn't get to interrupt the I-Island Expo since Mikumo rats him out before he gets the chance to do anything.
  • Polyamory: Mina, Tooru, and Camie are a polyamorous triad.
  • Power Misidentification: To hide the truth of One for All and New Order being given to Izuku, All Might tells Izuku to use the cover story of his Quirk requiring confidence, and winning the Sports Festival gave him the self-confidence needed.
  • Reality Warper: After gaining New Order, Izuku gains the ability of reality warping just like Stars and Stripes.
  • Relationship Sabotage: Eri sabotages Izuku's dates because she wants him to get with Ochako.
  • Secret-Keeper: Gentle tells Iida he won't tell anyone that Iida tried to kill the Hero Killer.
  • Shipper on Deck:
    • Izuku/Ochako is shipped by Inko, Stars and Stripes, All Might, Nana, and Eri.
    • Izuku ships his mom with Stars and Stripes and is very happy when they get together.
  • Shout-Out:
With that, Spamton grew a propeller from his head and flew off into the sunset, despite the fact that it was only two in the afternoon.
    • When testing the full power of a New Order-boosted One for All, All Might and Stars and Stripes take Izuku to Nowhere, as in where Courage's home is, with windmill included.
    • Aoyama instead chooses as his hero name the moniker of a YouTuber, Jordan "CaptainSparklez" Maron.
    • Before going with "Legacy", Izuku considers "Scribblenaut" as one of the few non-star-related options for his hero name (such as "All-Star").
    • When Izuku asks Stars and Stripes why they're in Hosu, she jokingly answers it's a canon event.
    • When Izuku kicks Wolfram and crew from I-Island to Tartarus, they all say they are blasting off again like Team Rocket.
    • Re-Destro builds some anti-platypus traps, referencing his similar appearance to Dr. Doofinshmirtz.
    • The MLA headquarters features a replica of the set of Squid Game.
  • Slap-Slap-Kiss: Hatsume and Maina get on each other's nerves and yet decide to kiss at the end of an argument during the Sports Festival.
  • Spin-Offspring: This fic is an expansion of the Star and Stripe chapter of the author’s anthology fic, All It Takes Is One Good Friend, and the sequel snippet he wrote for it, which he wound up expanding into a full story.
  • Split Personality: Bakugou's emotions from when Stars and Stripes made him self-aware later manifests as an independent consciousness within his mind, dedicated to making him a better person.
  • Spotting the Thread: When All for One tells Inko his backstory, she realizes there are holes in his claims that he saw his mother devoured by rats and swam his brother to safety, right after being born.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: All Might warns that Izuku needs extra muscle mass before he can safely be given One for All, but Stars and Stripes points out that since Izuku will also get New Order, he can use one of the orders to make it safe.
  • Super Power Lottery: It’s a fic where Izuku gets One For All and New Order…yes, at the same time…so…yeah.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: When Izuku assumes Iida picked Manual as his internship mentor because he's the best choice for learning basic procedures, Iida goes along with it since he can't very well admit to having revenge plans.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: All Might noticed that Mirio resembled him physically but was willing to give Nighteye the benefit of the doubt and hoped that was just a coincidence. He is very disappointed to learn otherwise.
  • Symbol Swearing: In the final arc, because of New Order shenanigans, all expletives are censored and the story depicts them using symbols.
  • Tempting Fate: While in Hosu, Stars and Stripes tell Izuku nothing big would happen. Cue the explosions and them both realizing the former jinxed it.
  • Thou Shall Not Kill: Tenko implements a no-kill policy for his League of Vigilantes.
  • Throwing Off the Disability: After experimenting with New Order, Izuku manages to regenerate All Might's missing organs.
  • Trapped in TV Land: The final arc of the story involves Izuku and Co being trapped in a movie due to a HPSC agent shooting trigger into Stars and Stripes, supercharging her New Order and putting out of control.
  • Troll: When Izuku asks Yoichi for All for One's true name, he says Hisashi Midoriya, shocking Izuku before revealing he was messing with him.
  • Vengeance Feels Empty: After Hosu, Iida realizes the absolute pointlessness of him going after Stain in revenge. His brother's spine in still injured and it didn't make his career come back. He also feels like he betrayed everything a hero is for the sake of petty vengeance. Iida chooses to transfer out of the Hero course as a result, having decided he doesn't deserves to be one.
  • Vigilante Militia: Tenko forms the League of Vigilantes. After recruitment, he has everyone do a team building exercise by beating up Moonfish together. They then proceed to take on the Meta Liberation Army.
