Neo Koopa Troop

The team led by Chiaroscuro's incarnation Bowser, where he has recruited Bayonetta, Cirrina the Inkling, Donkey Kong, Richter Belmont, Wolf, Young Link, and Jasper the Incineroar into overthrowing the current leadership and become its new president.

General

  • Power Stable: The "Neo Koopa Troop" is Bowser's crew for the Smash King tourney, with Bowser acting as its manager.
  • Underdressed for the Occasion: The 2Decades short, "The Perfect Mix Match" is all about the miscommunication between each member of the team, with many being unable to show up fully dressed for the regal occasion. Despite Chrom's protests, Isabelle allows all of them to enter the event.
    • Donkey Kong and Jasper, due to a misunderstanding on the fault of Donkey Kong, both end up arriving at the event in a garish pair of shorts and tank tops.
    • Cirrina and Young Link literally walked from school to the event, wearing their casual clothes.
    • Richter Belmont arrived at the event dressed semi-formally, though without buttoning his shirt or putting on a tie.
    • Wolf, embarrassed that he also goes to school, arrives wearing his school uniform.
  • Whole Costume Reference: In the short "A Perfect Mix Match", the Neo Koopa Troop show up to the ball dressed up either in appropriate formal wear, or underdressed and that reference another character or franchise.
    • Bowser arrives dressed in his white tuxedo and hat from Super Mario Odyssey.
    • Bayonetta's dress to the ball is her "Sunday Best" costume from Bayonetta 2.
    • Donkey Kong and Jasper are the first to arrive underdressed, both wearing shorts and tank tops. Donkey Kong is wearing a re-color of Funky Kong's tank top, shorts, and shades, while Jasper has the same outfit as the Team Skull grunts from Pokémon Sun and Moon.
    • Cirrina also arrives underdressed for the occasion, where she and Young Link walked from school to the event. Her casual clothes are the same ones worn by Futaba Sakura.
    • Lastly, Wolf arrives in his school uniform, which is the same one used by Cherryton Academy.
    Jasper the Incineroar

"I do not Incine-purr! I do not Incine-meow! I INCINEROAR!!"

A heel wrestler who aims to acquire as much GSP as possible, which would make him eligible to enter the Smash King tourney. He's fallen on hard times, though, and Jasper is in a constant struggle to pay for both his rent and his adopted daughter, Amber.

  • The Corruption: Was possessed by a malevolent Spirit during the events of World of Light making him a "Darkhonian". Unlike Corrin however, Jasper is not ashamed to admit this to others.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Jasper is a tough fighter who loves attention, but also is friendly with others. Too bad he has King K. Rool as his boss...
  • Heel: Incineroars are known as the "Heel Pokemon," and Jasper is no exception.
  • Large Ham: Just look at his quote!
  • Nominal Importance: While there are many Incineroars out there in the world, Jasper is considered the "prime" Incineroar.
  • Never Learned to Read: He apparently left the paperwork to King K. Rool, Amber, and then Bowser, since he never learned how to read. After revealing this, Bowser states he's being enrolled in school, much to Jasper's dismay.
  • Oblivious to Hatred: Jasper thinks that he and Little Mac are only enemies in the ring while fighting, and that the two of them are buddies outside of it. In reality, Little Mac hates Jasper for constantly beating him and for being the one everyone cheers for, despite being the heel, AKA "the bad guy".
  • Papa Wolf: Would do anything to keep Amber safe, even if it means throwing matches to earn more money.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: In the ring, he lives to rile spectators up. Off-duty, he's a loveable goof who adores his daughter.
  • Red Baron: Known mainly by his stage name, "Jasper the Jubilant."
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red Oni to Wolf's blue.
  • Struggling Single Mother: Gender inversion: Jasper struggles to support Amber, his daughter.
  • Top-Heavy Guy: Is called as such by Wii Fit Trainer, impressed with his physique, but notes that they'll need to work on his legs, as they are skinnier than his upper body.
Wii Fit: I must say, your physique is remarkable, Mr. Jasper.
Jasper: (chuckles) I get that a lot.
Wii Fit: Though perhaps we should consider... Leg day, for you sometime.
Jasper: (grumbling) Meh, I also get that a lot...
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: He and Wolf are more than eager to insult and fight each other, despite both being on Bowser's team.

    Bowser
Voiced by: Tigura21
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bowser_ssbu.png

King of the Koopas and the reigning Smash King. This Bowser is a different incarnation from the Bowser of the main series, but that doesn't stop him from retaining much of his predecessor's personality traits.

  • Always Someone Better: To King K. Rool, much to the Kremling's frustration. Bowser is well aware of this and takes any opportunity to flaunt his superiority in K. Rool's face.
  • Badass Crew: The Neo Koopa Troop, his team.
  • Benevolent Boss: Is highly regarded by his teammates: though he does act tough at times, it's always in the best interests of everyone. Jasper quickly agrees with this assessment once Bowser introduces him to a litany of privileges and benefits that the Incineroar otherwise lacked under K. Rool.
  • Healing Hands: Patents a trademark technique known as "Spirit Purging," allowing him to cleanse trophies of the influence of violent Spirits.
  • He Cleans Up Nicely: In the 2Decades short, "The Perfect Mix Match", Jasper says the trope word-for-word when he sees Bowser in his white suit.
  • Heroic Lineage: Is the reincarnation of the Bowser who appears in the main series. Thus, he's well aware of the great deeds his previous incarnation accomplished and works to ensure that the reputation founded by his "ancestor" be maintained.
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: Was once a member of the High Council, but was expelled due to a perceived fear that he was too chaotic for everyone's good. As a member of the Creator's Quadrivium, however, he still holds significant clout among the trophies.
  • The Leader: Of the Troop itself, where he is its manager.

    Bayonetta
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bayonetta_ssbu.png
Voiced by: LyraPhoenix
An Umbra Witch and one of the most proficient fighters in the world. In the past, Bayonetta was practically unstoppable due to her prowess, but this incarnation struggles to achieve the same power as her predecessor. To this end, she joins Bowser and aims to regain her lost strength.
  • The Ace: Was this back in the Fourth World, where she dominated every single tournament alongside Bowser. She's so good that competition would hit an all-time low whenever she appeared. Unfortunately, Bayonetta lost a significant amount of her power in Ultimate.
  • Dark Action Girl: Serves this role on Bowser's team.
  • Pretty in Mink: During the gala in the short "A Perfect Mix Match", she wears a Pimped-Out Dress and white hat that has a silver fur wrap.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Bowser. Even when she had no reason to follow him after making the jump to Ultimate, she still works for him out of "contractual obligation"

    Cirrina the Inkling

"Want me to tell you a fortune?"

One of the Neo Koopa Troop's members, acting as commentary for some matches while also being the organizer of the team.

  • Combat Commentator: Sometimes plays this role, seen in Episode 2, where she does play-by-play alongside Diddy Kong.

    Young Link

Another member of the Neo Koopa Troop, who is a young swordsman looking to prove himself.

The Blunder Busters

    King K. Rool
Voiced by: CrayZBrawler (Episodes 1-2) DrDark7/Broken Dark (post-Smash King HD short, "Bowser Day")
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ssbu_kingkrool.png
"Now, now. 'Nobody likes a sourpuss,' right?"

The main antagonist of 2Decades. He's the head of a recruiting agency called the "Blunder Busters" and Jasper's former sponsor. K. Rool is willing to do anything for extra money, even if it means forcing his ex-star fighter to throw matches. After he's forced to sign off Jasper to Bowser's agency, he swears to get revenge on the Koopa King.

  • Arch-Enemy: This incarnation of the character still has it out against the Kongs: as shown when he gossips about one of his schemes against them with the Villager in Cat and Mouse, and goes to fight Donkey Kong in Jungle Japes to let off some steam in the second episode. He also holds a strong hatred towards Bowser, due to him always "hitting him where it hurts", with the latest being taking Jasper away from him and looks noticeably frightened when the Koopa King reveals himself.
  • Bad Boss: Aside from causing Jasper's reputation to tank, K. Rool was perfectly willing to beat his star fighter for refusing to cooperate with their plans.
  • Fat Bastard: A crocodile with an enormous gait, where he doesn't care if Jasper's GSP tanks: as long as they earn money, it's worth it to him and him alone. Him asking for to deliberately throw his matches is also a tactic to keep Jasper under his control, knowing the cat has no other options.
  • Foil: To President Dedede from the main series. Both are egotistical, power-hungry individuals who love turning a blind eye to important problems in favor of entertaining themselves, and also have a contending fighter that they use as personal moneymaker. However, several differences separate the two characters:
    • Dedede, for all his womanizing, jackass behavior he displays normally, hides a hidden heart of gold, and genuinely cares about Bowser’s well-being and victory. K. Rool on the other hand, cruelly abuses and manipulates Jasper for the sake of profiting off his business.
  • Humiliation Conga: Is forced to sign Jasper over to Bowser, relieving him of his star Smasher, and is then reminded by Bowser of his rejection by the Creator's Quadrivium, leaving him with nothing but a rookie recruting agency.
  • Hypocrite: Bowser calls K. Rool out for forsaking his own minions, yet is nothing without them.
  • In-Series Nickname: Jasper often refers to him as "Leatherhead" and Bowser refers to him as "Belly Dragger".
  • It's All About Me: Even when he promises Jasper that throwing matches will keep a roof over his head, it's really just an excuse to keep him under K. Rool's thumb while he rakes in money.
  • It's a Costume Party, I Swear!: Misunderstood that the party during "A Perfect Mix Match" was a costume party instead of a royal gala, where he arrived wearing a pirate captain costume instead of formal attire.
  • Laxative Prank: Pulled one on the Kongs by stuffing a banana-flavored cake with them. As K. Rool had just proceeded to stink up the Kongs' outhouse, they were left with no choice but to brave the stench.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Forces Jasper to perform as a heel, as no other wrestling competitor will hire him, and no other job can keep a roof over Jasper and Amber’s heads.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • K. Rool’s dislike/fear towards Bowser references how the two have bad chemistry in Mario Super Sluggers.
    • His voice is also reminiscent of how he was portrayed in the Donkey Kong Country cartoon.
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile: An overweight, self-absorbed crocodile who treats his team like dirt.
  • Oh, Crap!: The instant he sees Bowser, he clams up and tries to run. He also panics when he realizes that both Jasper and Wolf aren't willing to let him leave without a fight.
  • Only in It for the Money: It didn't make any difference to him if Jasper's reputation suffered, so long as he earned extra cash afterwards.
  • Power Stable: The Manager of his team, "The Blunder Busters."
  • Villainous Demotivator: Threatens to cut ties with Jasper if he doesn't throw his matches, which would result in the Incineroar losing his only source of income. However, when Jasper defies him anyways, it devolves into a Villainous Breakdown.
  • Villainous Breakdown: K. Rool absolutely loses it when Jasper decides to stop playing heel, thus ruining his profiting plans. He even goes as far as to try and beat up Jasper and Wolf up himself in a fit of rage.
  • Vocal Evolution: K.rool's voice during the first two episodes of 2Decades was a relatively low voice, while doubling as an impersonation of his voice from the Donkey Kong Country cartoon. Starting with Smash King HD short "Bowser Day", his voice is much higher, being closer in pitch to his voice from Donkey Kong Country while maintaining the vocal impersonation.
  • Whole Costume Reference: In the short "A Perfect Mix Match", his costume is the same one used by his alter ego, Kaptain K. Rool in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest.

Civilians

    Amber the Pichu
Voiced by: ChaosX
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pichu_6.png
"Papa plays the heel, so he doesn’t always draw the most pleasant attention; but the way he keeps smiling in spite of that… I admire that so much."

A young Pichu under the care of Jasper. She holds a lot of respect for her adoptive father, and aspires to one day follow in his footsteps and become a great wrestler.

  • Adorably Precocious Child: Plays some role in organizing Jasper's financial situation, telling him it's alright to throw one or two matches if it means keeping a roof over their heads. However, she pleads for him to not go through with it when she sees firsthand how humiliating it was for him. She also helped her neighbors with moving out and volunteers to buy groceries for the Villager, something he immensely appreciates.
  • Ear Notch: The three spikes on her left ear.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: Isn't afraid to play rough with other kids and wants to become a wrestler like her adoptive father.
  • Happily Adopted: Adores living with Jasper. The feelings are certainly reciprocated.
  • Hero-Worshipper: Absolutely admires Jasper. Justified in that she's his adopted daughter.
    • Also holds Bowser in high esteem, given how he played a role in freeing Jasper from the corruption of a hostile Spirit.
  • Red Baron: While not yet a wrestler like her father, Amber has already settled on "The Jinx" as her wrestling name.

    Villager
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/villagerssbu.png
"I appreciate your honesty! So, I’ve no need to bury waste… much like how a cat does."
Landlord of the Tomodachi Life Complex. He's a typically amicable guy, and is willing to give his tenants some leeway if they can't pay their rent on time. His patience doesn't last forever, though, and when it comes to repeat offenders like Jasper, the Villager becomes almost threatening.
