    Donkey Kong
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dkclearnew.png
Voiced by: Unit613 (Former, Episodes 1-20), Tigura21 (Smash King HD), BigWes99 (Current)

The leader of Team Kong. He is one of Bowser's friends, but also his biggest rival.

  • Ambiguously Gay: It's a Running Gag that DK may have the hots for Bowser. Possibly stems from all the times Bowser dry-humped him.
  • The Big Guy: The largest member of Team Kong.
  • Crossover Relatives: In Episode 21, he notes he has a cousin who is the Pokemon Slaking named Norman Kong.
  • Foil: To Pikachu. Both are rivals of Bowser who want to best him in the tournament, but also genuinely care about his well-being and want to know why he was being imprisoned by the B.S Society. The difference is that Donkey Kong and Bowser were once good friends before their competition started to get in the way, whereas Pikachu was initially quite bitter to Bowser and his teammates before gradually coming to respect him.
  • Friendly Rival: Though he and Bowser occasionally butt heads, they're actually pretty solid friends.
  • Unexplained Accent: Speaks with a bit of an African accent, though it gets dropped starting in Episode 21.

    Pikachu

"Oh, they're not jeering at you two. They're most likely booing that overgrown, butt-ugly joke of a leader you guys got!"
Voiced by: Corrine Sudberg (Credited as Megami33)

The leader of Team Pikachu, and another rival of Bowser's.

  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Wears a green headband.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": With the existence of Lizardon's Pikachu friend Goldie being introduced in remakes of earlier episodes, Pikachu becomes this trope retroactively.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Mocks Bowser before and during their exhibition match, and is soon curb-stomped when Bowser activates his Ascent Mode.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: After losing to Bowser and his team several times during the tournament, Pikachu comes to have a friendlier relationship with Bowser over the Time Skip, even taking the time to visit him after being imprisoned by the B.S society. If Smash King HD is anything to go by, his repeated losses against Bowser have caused him to respect the Koopa King more.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Pikachu's plan to defeat Bowser in the Exhibition Match was to attack and move around too fast for Bowser to hit, thus causing him to transform into Giga Bowser and subsequently go to the lower parts of Hyrule Castle to stall the transformation and take him down with little effort. Unfortunately, Pikachu didn't anticipate the existence of Bowser's other transformation, and is subsequently wrecked in the final bout.
  • Foil: To Donkey Kong. Both are rivals of Bowser who want to best him in the tournament, but also genuinely care about his wellbeing and want to know why he was being imprisoned by the B.S Society. The difference is that Pikachu was initially quite bitter to Bowser and his teammates before gradually coming to respect him, whereas Donkey Kong and Bowser were once good friends before their competition started to get in the way.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite being increasingly angered at his team's defeats at Bowser's hands, Pikachu still comes to visit him when the B.S society temporarily incarcerates him at the end of the second season. Since then, Pikachu has been consistently more friendly and respectful towards Bowser whenever they meet.
  • The Napoleon: Very pushy and arrogant, and is quite short being a Pikachu and all.
  • Royal Blood: Though by no means is he royalty, Pikachu is regarded as a descendant of royalty due to his top status back in the original Smash.
  • Shock and Awe: It's Pikachu. What did you expect?
  • Verbal Tic: Has a habit of saying "chu" at the end of most sentences.

    Charizard
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charizardclearnew.png
"Attention! Sound off!"
Voiced by: CrayZBrawler (Former, Episodes 1-17, 21), Blaze1216j (Current, Episode 18-Present)

The head of the Saffron Smash Training Program. He helps train Smashers to become stronger, with Bowser and Donkey Kong being his two best pupils.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Is often called "Char-Char" by his friends and students. Non-pupils refer to him as such out of respect.
  • Badass Teacher: Has taught several Smashers to become battling champions in both Melee and Brawl. Smash King HD shows that he wasn't slowing down in the Fourth World, having been swamped with work before being able to meet up with Bowser and his friends for a night out.
  • Comical Overreacting: When he learns that Bowser surrendered himself to the BS Society's custody, he immediately assumes the worst. The BS Society explains the circumstances, but Charizard still doesn't calm down for a while.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Zig-Zagged. He barks out orders and puts his pupils through strenuous training, but he never pushes them too far and genuinely cares about improving their skills. In some cases, like with Bowser, he even regards them as his children.
  • Famed In-Story: His highly effective training regiment and sheer strength have made him a Living Legend in Saffron City.
  • A Father to His Men: His students look to him with respect. He even calls Bowser "son" and "my boy" on occasion.
  • The Mentor: Towards Bowser and Donkey Kong.
  • Not So Above It All: He gladly helps himself to the Zero Suit that Meta Knight was too shy to interact with during Bowser's house party. He also goes into full-on Inelegant Blubbering mode when he learns Bowser's been arrested in the 15th episode.
  • Renowned Selective Mentor: He's said to practically own Saffron City solely because of his ability to create powerful fighters.
  • Stern Teacher: He expects a lot from his students, but never pushes them beyond their limit.
  • Training from Hell: His training sessions aren't for everyone. Only a select few (Bowser and Donkey Kong being notable examples) have powered through it, and it certainly shows. The only caveat he has is that he won't actively harm his students during training like Mewtwo does.

    Squirtle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/squirtleclearnew.png
"The good guy's the one who gets to live happily ever after with his destined lover and all his friends!"
Voiced by: MidoriChii

A young child who looks to Bowser as an idol.

  • Ascended Extra: Went from being a character who shows up in crowd scenes and minor team battles to a somewhat relevant character in the plot.
  • Children Are Innocent: Doesn't understand that Bowser is in prison not because he's a bad guy, but because his power is too great.
  • From the Mouths of Babes: Often curses despite his young age.
  • Hero-Worshipper: He absolutely adores Bowser.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Probably swears more than every other character in the series, even though he only has speaking roles in a few episodes.
  • Sweet Tooth: Constantly on the look-out for candy.

The Other Lucario (Major Unmarked Spoilers)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lucarioclearnew.png
"Come at me however you like! But be forewarned, I may have seen your moves before you have made them."
Voiced by: Kellen Goff (Former, Episodes 17-18, Wonders of the Miiverse Short, credited as Speedjolt), Yon Shady Glenn (Current)

The true Lucario. Originally a wandering Pokemon, he joined Ganondorf's team as its third member. This alliance wasn't of his own will however, as he was possessed by the spirit of Mewtwo, Bowser's former mentor. Lucario's body was used as a vessel to carry out Mewtwo's own revenge against Bowser, up until Mewtwo's Heel–Face Turn. Mewtwo's change also allowed Lucario to regain control, forcing the former's soul out of his body. Once Mewtwo left, he resigns from Ganondorf's team and becomes one of Bowser's allies.

  • Anti-Villain: When he was under Mewtwo's possession.
  • The Atoner: Implied to be the reason why he decides to assist Bowser after being released from Mewtwo's control.
  • Aura Vision: Lucario, much like his game counterpart, can sense the Aura of those around him. When he was possessed, it was Bowser's malicious Aura that reinforced Mewtwo's mission to kill the Koopa. By Episode 17, however, Bowser's Aura becomes pure, indicating that he is no longer an enemy.
  • Blood Knight: Admits to devoting his life to being the best fighter, and is always looking for someone greater than him to hone his skills with, who happens to be Bowser in this case.
  • Challenge Seeker: Is always searching for a worthy opponent, especially those who rival him in strength. It's for this reason that he wants to fight Bowser.
  • Cool Old Guy: Minus the time he under Mewtwo's possession, Lucario is a fierce, powerful, and yet cordial fighter who simply wants to fight others. His polite and refined form of speech gives him the air of an older and wiser warrior than the other fighters.
  • Cultured Badass: Is an experienced fighter, but is also extremely polite.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: "Lu-lu" is one to him. While he is okay with Liz addressing him as such, he takes offense to Bowser or other men referring to him with it.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Despite his enthusiasm for battling strong opponents, Lucario refused to join Team Ganon, as he could sense Ganondorf's evil aura and his nefarious reasons for competing in the tournament. Unfortunately, Mewtwo had other plans...
  • Grand Theft Me: Spends much of the first two seasons possessed by Mewtwo, only managing to break free of his control at the end of Episode 17.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Leaves Ganon's team after forcing Mewtwo's soul out of his body. Justified, as he wasn't keen on even joining him in the first place.
  • Limit Break: His Ascent Mode, Mega Lucario. With the power of his Ascent Mode, he was able to purge Mewtwo's soul from his body.
  • Mistaken for Murderer: After he regains control of his own body, Lucario is attacked by both Wario and Lizardon when he meets them again due to them believing that he's still Mewtwo and wants to kill Bowser.
  • Offscreen Teleportation: Vanished from the BS Society's HQ and popped up in the precise location Bowser was in at the moment.
  • Professional Butt-Kisser: Lucario indulges in this to convince Bowser to let him travel with him to Saffron City.
  • Purple Prose: Occasionally speaks like this to give exaggerated and ornate compliments or insults towards Bowser. Unfortunately, the Koopa King is smart enough to know what the words he says mean.
  • The Rival: Seems to have a light-hearted one with Mewtwo during Smash King HD.
  • Walking Spoiler: It is impossible to not give away half the plot if we were to go deep into what his actual character is like, and how much of what he does before Episode 17 weren't his own actions.
  • Worthy Opponent: Though Lucario hasn't properly fought him yet, he sees Bowser as this due to his aura. This is what makes him interested in challenging him to a fight.
