    Molly McIntyre (Unmarked spoilers)

Voiced by: Ayaka Saitou (Japanese)

Appearences: TV Series | Chamber of Time

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/molly_4.png

Molly is a shy and timid student who at first glance, is a seemingly normal student at the school, however she is much more than she appears to be. Originally a random student in the background, she plays a much more important role in Chamber of Time.

  • Ascended Extra: Molly was originally just a random student, seen in some scenes in the series. In Chamber of Time, not only is she fully-voiced, she's also revealed to be the one behind the entire plot and serves as the game's Final Boss.
  • Big Bad: She's revealed to be the one behind the endless time-loop in Chamber of Time.
  • Cute Ghost Girl: She's revealed to be a ghost hailing from the Golden Age of Magic in Chamber of Time and one of the Seven Wonders of Luna Nova.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: It is not known til later in the game that Molly is actually a ghost and the human form of Ghost Witch, as she looks indistinguishable from any other student.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: Her bangs covering one eye represent her shyness.
  • Inept Mage: This was the inital reason why she wanted to use the Horologium Chamber, as Molly wasn't great with magic and was prone to being made fun of by the other students, while she did become better with it thanks to it, she became lonely due to her inability to tell anyone about the chamber and was soon inflicted with and later corrupted by the curse of time thanks to interfering with the chamber again in a desperate attempt to start fresh.
  • Older Than They Look: Molly, who otherwise looks like another teenage student at Luna Nova, is later revealed to be around from the Golden Age of Magic, making her one of the oldest characters in the franchise.
  • Shy Blue-Haired Girl: She's a blue hair girl who is timid and suffers from loneliness.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: She develops one in the form of Ghost Witch as a result of being corrupted by the curse of time over hundreds of years and has influenced her personality heavily to be more sinister, mean and cruel thanks to it. Fortunately, she is finally rid of it by the end though thanks to the efforts of Akko and co.
  • Walking Spoiler: Her entire role and backstory in Chamber of Time is a spoiler in of itself.

    The Other Little Witches

The other students at Luna Nova fill out the background of classes and events. Mostly unnamed until the release of the Chronicle lorebook (though they had fan names). The release of the game included a booklet which gave a brief profile on each of them. One example group, Avery's coven mates are Mary (long hair in a ribbon) and Blair (blonde). A few have had a line or two. Who is who in each class remains consistent through the series. They play a greater role in Chamber of Time , providing personalized side-quests which further flesh out their characters and relationships.

  • Ascended Extra:
    • Downplayed in Chamber of Time. While they’re still largely extras, they and their relationships are fleshed out compared to the TV series, becoming the focus of several side quests as well as gaining unique names and personality traits.
    • Subverted with Avery in the TV series. Initially, it seemed like she would have a bigger role in the series based on her appearance in "Starting Over", as she’s shown in a prominent speaking role alongside Hannah and Barbara and even joins them on mocking Akko. However after the episode, she is quickly reduced to a voiceless background character like she was originally in the films.
  • Clothing Reflects Personality: Marianne’s Luna Nova outfit has been modified to look like a ninja gi, reflecting her obsession with ninjutsu and Japanese culture.
  • Foreign Culture Fetish: Marianne is obsessed with Ninja, to the point of altering her uniform to look like a gi and calling her spells "Jutsu". She also prefers people shorten her name to "Mari", possibly because it sounds more Japanese.
  • Named After Someone Famous: Those we got the names for in the pre-screening of "Changing at the Edge of the World":
    • Avery is named after Tex Avery, the American animator.
    • Sarah Bernhardt is named after a French actress of the 19th and early 20th century. Notably, in silent film.
    • One of Avery's teammates is Blair. Together with Mary, they may be named after Disney artist Mary Blair.
  • Non-Standard Character Design:
    • Marianne’s outfit has been modified to look like a Ninja gi due to her obsession with them, making her stand out quite a bit from the other students.
    • Catherine is the only student to wear a sweater over her outfit, making her stand out like a sore thumb amongst the other students.
  • Recurring Extra: They exist primarily as recurring background characters.
  • Screaming Woman: Whenever something goes wrong, they will create a chorus of panic and fear.
  • Spontaneous Human Combustion: One Little Witch, a short, chestnut-haired girl named Sóla, is known to explode at random. It's her roommate's responsibility to keep this under control.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: While still aloof, Avery is far more amicable towards Akko in Chamber of Time compared to how she acted towards her in the first episode of the series, where she bullied her alongside Hannah and Barbara.
  • Unknown Rival: Chloé considers herself of equal standing both academically and socially to Diana, and frequently says as much to anyone who will listen; hating that Diana always seems to get the spotlight. Diana never appears to know she exists.
  • The Weird Sisters: Students are organized into "covens" of three students each, identifiable by the color of the ribbons in their hats and belts. Which student is in which coven remains consistent and they always appear together.

Luna Nova Faculty

    Professor Anne Finnelan

Voiced by: Rurika Yamamoto (Japanese), Eileen Galido (English; The Enchanted Parade), Karen Kahler (English; TV Series)Other Languages

Appearances: The Enchanted Parade | TV Series

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/finnelan_id.png

The Professor of Magical Linguistics and Magical History and in charge of student discipline. Finnelan is the strictest staff member in the academy and tends to be incredibly stuck up and harsh, as she expects her students to live up to Luna Nova's rules and traditions and punishes them harshly if they fail to do so.

  • Actor Allusion: In the Brazilian Portuguese dub, she's voiced by Lina Rossana, who was the first voice of Minerva McGonagall.
  • Appeal to Tradition: Shares this view with almost all of the school's older faculty members, but she's the one most adamant about it. She puts upholding Luna Nova's traditions first, even if they are humiliating or inefficient compared to other alternatives or by modern standards. This is one of the main problems she has with Akko, who likes to go against them at every opportunity.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Rescues Chariot at the last minute by snatching Croix's tablet/wand with telekinesis in "The Road to Arcturus". This is almost immediately subverted when Croix turns off all magic that doesn't use her router.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: After all the contempt she's shown to Akko and her apparent incapability in her studies, she finally warms up to her by the finale.
  • Humble Pie: She starts off a stuck-up and strict traditionalist who dislikes Akko and Shiny Chariot for going against the old ways but several events has make her reconsider. Her attempts in preserving traditions is met with failure, her failure in stopping the faeries' strike has resulted in her being shunned by the students she valued most and is being mocked and deceived by Croix. From that point on, she starts to see Akko in a better light and accepts her as a true witch.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While she can be an absolute Jerkass at times and a traditionalist to a fault, she isn’t all bad, as she does acknowledge Chariot as having a natural sense for magic and attempts to save her from Croix in "The Road to Arcturus", in spite of her negative opinion towards her. She also ends up warming up to Akko after showing disdain towards her by the epilogue.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • Although she's undeniably a prejudiced Jerkass towards Akko and can be rather needlessly cruel to her, she isn’t necessarily wrong that Akko is a poor student and troublemaker who has no respect for the school's rules and traditions. Even Holbrooke and Ursula, who are more reasonable and forgiving towards Akko than most, agree with her to an extent.
    • While she strictly holds to tradition despite how nonsensical those traditions might be, she is rightly suspicious of Croix and her modern magic and obstructs her attempts to institute it at Luna Nova, which was only necessitated by faeries going on strike, instigated by Croix's artificial faerie.
  • Kick the Dog: During her rant to Akko in "Orange Submariner" about her magical mishaps, Finneran actually states that she doesn't sense a shred of magical potential within the young witch. That's harsh coming from anyone, but from a teacher it is way out of line.
  • Last-Name Basis: Nobody refers to her as "Anne".
  • Pet the Dog: Despite her scornful opinion of Shiny Chariot, she does admit when Akko's in earshot that her idol had a natural sense for magic.
  • Sadist Teacher: Downplayed. While she's largely a Stern Teacher in most cases, she does have a tendency to flirt with this trope at times, as she's a strict and stuck up traditionalist who sometimes cares more about the school's rules and traditions than the wellbeing of her own students and is quick to punish them and even threaten them explusion for even the most minor of things. She especially comes off as this towards Akko, who she tends to show contempt towards due to her seemingly lack of innate magic ability and slow progress compared to the other students as well as her rebellious and troublemaking tendencies. She does start to warm up to her by the epilogue however.
  • Spell My Name With An S: "Finneran" or "Finnelan"? The former is a normal Irish name, while the latter very likely comes from the former being put in a Japanese form and running into the classic R and L business before being re-romanized for the translation into a new name.
  • Stern Teacher: By far the strictest teacher at Luna Nova and always metes out severe punishments for the slightest errors. That said, she can be fair and reasonable at times and her strict behavior stems from a well intentioned (if misguided) desire for her students to do well and live up to Luna Nova's standards.
  • Wicked Witch: Downplayed. She's the one professor who looks the most like a classic Wicked Witch. However, she is not actually wicked, just strict.

    Professor Samantha Badcock

Voiced by: Asami Yano (Japanese), Katelyn Gault (English)Other Languages

Appearances: TV Series

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/okwcel1.png

Teacher of Magical Numerology and Culinary Magic, and Vice Principal of the school.

  • Casting Gag: Her Brazilian VA, who voiced Dolores Umbridge, here voices another short magical teacher who's often seen with a clipboard, but a far more good-natured, if stern this time.
  • Closet Geek: She scoffs at the main trio's pleas to go out to the Night Fall event, only to cosplay as Big Ben at said event. She's seen sneaking away with the costume in the background as the main trio gets caught.
  • Lethal Chef: Considers three variations on potatoes as one meal a good idea.
  • Meaningful Name: Named after Samantha Stevens of Bewitched.
  • Miser Advisor: Overly concerned with the school's (admittedly desperate) finances.
  • Stern Teacher: Not as stern as Finneran, but still has a low tolerance for Akko, Sucy, and Lotte's antics.

    Professor Lukic

Voiced by: Mari Okamoto (Japanese), Karen Kahler (English)Other Languages

Appearances: TV Series

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lukic2.jpg

Potions Professor. Sucy's favorite teacher. Also teaches Magical Law.

  • Sadist Teacher: Seems to take extraordinary pleasure in scaring her students.
  • Wicked Witch: Not really wicked, but she has the "old hag" look and a bone-chilling cackle.

    Headmistress Miranda Holbrooke

Voiced by: Ikuko Tani (Japanese), Jessica Gee-George (English)

Appearances: TV Series

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/holbrooke_119527.jpg

The elderly principal of Luna Nova.

  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: Her father was a bellringer, and her hat is shaped like a bell.
  • The Ditherer: She's reasonable and kind, but very rarely seen making actual decisions unless events force them.
  • Limited Wardrobe: No matter how hot it is, she's always wearing a turtleneck sweater and vest under a red cowl and overcoat.
  • Miniature Senior Citizen: She is the shortest and presumably oldest of the teachers.
  • Putting the "Pal" in Principal: Next to Professor Ursula, she is the most reasonable staff member of Luna Nova, supporting Akko's desire to learn magic without giving her a hard time and dealing out stern but fair punishments whenever they are needed.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: She is generally fair enough to be willing to give people a chance to prove themselves. In "Orange Submariner", she refuses to expel Akko despite pressure from Finneran, but still enforces a punishment on Akko since the episode's crisis came about because Akko was trying to bribe her teacher. In "Samhain Magic Festival", she stops Finneran and Badcock from stopping Akko's performance multiple times.
  • Secret-Keeper: It's obvious from some of her conversations that she knows Ursula's secret.
  • Wizards Live Longer: Is well over 200 years old.

    Professor Nelson

Voiced by: Minami Takayama (Japanese), Eileen Galido (films), Katelyn Gault (TV Series) (English)

Appearances: Little Witch Academia | TV Series

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/instructor_little_witch_academia_625.jpg

The Broom Flight Instructor.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: While she’s still rather strict and no-nonsense in the series, she isn’t the outright Sink or Swim Mentor that the first short film portrayed her as and is shown to be fair and helpful, despite her demeanor.
  • Named by the Adaptation: She was originally unnamed in the first film. The later series would eventually refer to her as Nelson.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite the fact Akko still couldn't fly a broom by her exams, she gives her a D- in flying instead of failing her simply because she clearly tried her hardest.
  • Sink or Swim Mentor: In the first short film, she pushes Akko off a high platform to fly or crash.
  • Stern Teacher: Nelson is a very hard and strict teacher, always orders her students to maintain their composure.

    Professor Pisces

Voiced by: None

Appearances: TV Series

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pisces.jpg
Something's fishy here.

The school's professor of magical philosophy, who also happens to be a fish.

  • Cool Teacher: She and Ursula are the only teachers that seem to give Akko the time of day. While most of the other teachers seem to tolerate Akko at best, in the game she not only tries to recruit Akko into her Summer class but says that Akko is always welcome in her class. Sure enough, she's involved in multiple sidequests that she's always eager to help with.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Spotted amongst the other faculty members in the first episode. Turns out she wasn't just a funny visual gag.
  • Meaningful Name: She is a fish and her name is Pisces. It's so on-the-nose that it's almost punny.
  • Nearly Normal Animal: Of the Largely Normal variety, complete with Animal Talk. Akko mistook her for a totally normal fish at first.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Despite Akko failing to take her exam entirely, she passes her anyways because she took responsibility for her mistakes, and also chose to save an endangered species of fish from a poacher, rather than get back to school to take her exam on time. The exam in question was on the nature of altruism and altruism with members of other species. Even if Akko was unable to take the test, she clearly understood the concept well enough to warrant a passing grade.
  • Starfish Language: She's actually a fish and only speaks in bubbles. Her class is by far the hardest on campus since the language is so difficult. Akko had been taking the class the entire semester, but only finds this out the lecture before the final exam. She had been treating it as a slack-off class. Her ridiculous attempts to butter up Pisces for a better grade result in Pisces getting lost, almost killed, and finally rescued by Akko half-shapeshifted into a fish. Somehow this results in Akko learning the language.
  • Token Non-Human: She is this among Luna Nova’s teaching staff, as she is a fish unlike the rest of the human teachers.
