Protagonist

    Player
The main character of the game, Who loses all their memory before waking up on Dawn Island.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Due to lack of gender selection in Character Customization, they usually refer as they/them or their name.
  • Amnesiac Hero: You wake up on Dawn Island without any memories. Morden fills you in on some of the details, but leaves you to find the rest out yourself.
  • Badass in Distress: After being ambushed by General Julian, the Glass Curse user, you end up as a miner in The Eternal Mines for an entire month before being saved by your allies.
  • Big Good: You become this in a truer sense if you have positive Renown. You can save castaways, sink pirate ships, and hunt down and defeat wanted criminals on top of going through the main story. Doing any of these three things can even get you mentioned in the Agora, where the Grand Navy (or castaways, if you get mentioned in it for saving them) will applaud, thank you for, or take positive note of what you’ve done, which will increase your Fame.
  • Character Customization: You can customize your character's appearance, name and magic type.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: They defeat jaws pirate and helping Redwake at the very beginning of the game, then helping Iris to finding the reason why her dad disappeared and their ultimate goals is to stop Order of Aesir. And most of the sidequests are about helping NPCs.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Based on Morden’s accounts of what both he and your character had been through (namely the experimentation by the Order of Aesir they were forced to go through), it’s very likely that this applies to your character as well. They might’ve suffered even worse than Morden, having developed amnesia so bad that they even forgot who they themselves were. And because they remember nothing of their past, they have to relearn it from what others say.
  • Kleptomaniac Hero: It's possible to be this in a few ways. When it comes to ordinary randomly spawning chests, although they don't really belong to anyone anymore, they're still fair game for you to rummage through. However, it gets closer to being played straight with private storage chests, which actually do belong to people... though be warned that opening them will get you charged with theft if you don’t have positive Renown. Fortunately, if you do have positive Renown, you can’t open private storage, making it so that you don’t have to worry about accidentally tarnishing your reputation.
    • Also, you can pick up Morden’s journal at Windrow Island. The game will try to guilt-trip you via its tooltip once you have it in your inventory.
  • Jack of All Stats: You become this if you're a Savant. However, there are two subtypes of Savants, and the one you become is determined by what you choose to do during your first awakening. If you choose to unlock a second magic, you become a Magic Savant. If you choose to learn a second fighting style instead, you become a Fighting Savant.
  • Magic Knight: The Warlock and Conjurer builds allow you to imbue your magic into your weapons or fighting style. Savants will also be able to become this once second awakenings are added.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Your character's eyes have a chance to start glowing red if they've been inflicted with Insanity.
  • The Chosen One: Very likely. When your character reaches the Ancient Temple at Mount Orthys for the final step to achieving their first Awakening, they interact with the source of the mysterious voice they had heard after their third meditation: Poseidon. He tells them that the stars have spoken of their destiny and that they’re “the strongest-willed of all legacies”. He then tells the player to fulfill their destiny, and to do better than what he and the other gods did. Even before this, Randal also told the player they were destined for greatness, albeit in a much vaguer way.
  • Villain Protagonist: You become this if you decide to do things that give you negative Renown, like raiding private storage chests, plundering and killing castaways, attacking merchants and the Grand Navy. None of this affects the main story, and it’s unclear how your character would justify any of their actions with regards to it. But their ultimate goals is still to stop Order of Aesir.
  • You Wake Up on a Beach: The game begins with you waking up on Dawn Island.

Main Characters

    Morden
The first character who the player meets after waking up on Dawn Island.
  • Broken Bird: Implied to be a masculine version of this through some parts of his journal and dialogue. He's been through a lot of suffering and torture because of the experimentation he went through at the hands of the Order of Aesir, and has also experienced very significant losses, having seen Tucker die (and having had to bury him by himself), as well as having had to learn that the player, his last friend, forgot who he was because of their amnesia.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Morden has a predominantly dark color scheme (black hair, dark-colored eyes, and a consistently black color scheme for his outfits post-Dawn Island), and eventually comes to wield the Death Cursenote  to boot. However, he also has a sense of justice and deeply cares for the player. On top of that, Neviro says in his journal that despite having given him the creeps, Morden was polite and respectful towards him, even though he seemed quiet and reserved.
    • Even the reason Morden chooses to fight General Julian alone after rescuing the player alongside Iris and Neviro (and Edward Kenton, if you completed his Silverhold raid quest) shows how this trope applies to him, as he states that he doesn't want to accidentally hurt the player or Neviro because he doesn't know how dangerous the Death Curse's power is yet.

    Iris
A young lady from Ravenna whose goal is to find her father after he was be captured by Ravenna soldiers.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: If Neviro's journal is anything to go off of, it's pretty clear that she acted like this to him during their time in Ravenna.
  • Child Prodigy: She very likely grew up as one, as her title of "The Anomaly" came from her having learned a Lost Magic at a young age. It's a remarkable feat because under normal circumstances it'd take a magic-user a long time to learn a Lost Magic.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Iris becomes one of the player's allies soon after her defeat at Frostmill Island. The player's friendship with her is sealed at Wind-Row Island.
  • Effortless Amazonian Lift: She does this to Morden in escape sequence in chapter 4. As he was injured from a fight with General Julian.
  • Fiery Redhead: Iris has scarlet hair, behaves rashly, and has a temper, as seen in her first interactions with the player, as well as both Morden and Neviro's accounts of her personalitynote . On another note, she is also very passionate about her goal, being very driven to find her father. Well, at least until she learns he was killed after having been tortured for information about a powerful Sea Curse by the Order of Aesir. Then her goal changes to helping the player with the ordeal involving the Sameria Province and Keraxe, which she's also passionate about doing.
    • Bonus points for her using Flare Magic, which is a solar flares-themed, fire-based Lost Magic.
  • Misplaced Retribution: She was melting Frostmill Island because there was Ravenna banner there. After she's defeated, she reveals that she didn't actually have anything against the people living on the island, she just wanted to get back at Ravenna for her father's disappearance.
  • Playing with Fire: Her Flare Magic is pretty much this.
  • Significant Green-Eyed Redhead: She's an anomalous fire magic user with red hair and green eyes. She’s also a major recurring character, appearing multiple times throughout the story.
  • The Napoleon: By comparing the heights of in-game models, it's easy to see that Iris is shorter than the player, as well as the shortest major recurring story NPC. Naturally, she is also capable of being quite fiery and aggressive.
  • Unstable Powered Woman: When the player encounters her, she attacks them under the presumption they're a Ravenna bounty hunter. Later, Morden states in his journal that she had already threatened three people with her magic by the time he met her, and also describes her as being like either a “ball of fire” or a “ticking bomb”.
    • Neviro's journal also speaks to this, as he says in it that Iris had attempted to burn his sailboat, attempted to kill him several times after arriving at Ravenna (albeit he did understand her reason for trying to kill him, as he said he would've done the same if someone had followed him for an entire week), and tried to fight everyone she came across there.

    Ren (Unmarked Spoilers)
The Protector of the Kingdom of Azura. Reveals his real name to be Warren when you meet him again at Windrow Island.
  • Expy: He was more than likely based off of techlevel80's Arcane Adventures character, who used Inferno Curse and was also named "Warren".
  • Mr. Exposition: He's the one who introduces the player to the very first pieces of information about the Order of Aesir.
    • Later at Wind-row island, he gives player information about an awakening and how to obtain it.
  • Playing with Fire: At Wind-row Island, it's revealed that he possesses the Inferno Cursenote , as evidenced by the blue flames he uses to fly over to the island.
  • Really 700 Years Old: At the Myriad, he indirectly gives a clue about his age while talking about the Order of Aesir, stating that he remembered the group dying out over 200 years ago before it resurfaced. Based on your character's confused response to this, it's safe to say they didn't think he was that old.

    Neviro (Unmarked Spoilers)
The prince of Kingdom of Winterveil which was destroyed by Nero Caesar.
  • 11th-Hour Ranger: Neviro pretty much disappears from the story for a while after you’re wrapped up at Cirrus Island, and joins Morden and Iris while your character is imprisoned at Ravenna. He reveals his story significance when you’re about to fight King Calvus.
  • Enemy Compassion: As much as he despises Ravenna as a whole, Neviro still goes back after King Calvus is killed to help find a new leader who isn't corrupt like any of the Caesars were. Why? Because he felt bad for the people of Ravenna, whose kingdom was left in a vulnerable state after King Calvus's death.
  • Sole Survivor: Neviro is the last surviving Prince of Winterveil. Although in his journal he mentioned that his father died from sacrifice himself for his mother, younger brother and him from assassination at very young age, but we never seen his mother nor brother in the game which could be assumed that they are likely separated away or decreased.
  • Jumped at the Call: After King Calvus IV is killed and the player arrives at Wind-row Island, Neviro readily decides to go help put a benevolent ruler on Ravenna's throne so that he can end the corruption there. He promises to meet the player in the Nimbus Sea once his business in Ravenna is finished.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Averted, Morden mentioned that his red eyes are cool in the Morden Journals
"The white haired guy named Neviro barely says anything but while his red colored eyes are cool, it's like they see right through me..."
  • The Stoic: Morden describes Neviro as this in his journal when he says that Iris "made up for" the emotion he lacks.
  • Warrior Prince: Neviro is the last Prince of Winterveil. He was also thrown into learning to use a spear at a young age by his family because his grandfather used one. He continued his training even after leaving behind his old life because he still wanted to become the world's greatest spearman.
    • Whether it was because of his skill or something else, he was able to use his spear to pierce through a giant blast of magic Iris threw at him after arriving at Ravenna, as per what he recounts in his journal.

The Jaws

    Estrid
A tavernkeeper who runs The Red Fin, the first Redwake questline NPC the player encounters, and the second main story NPC encountered after Morden.

    Shura
A hermit ronin living in a grove in the Jaws.
  • Everything's Better with Samurai: More of Everything's Better With Ronin, He's currently and only characters in the game that dress like japanese warrior and using katana.
  • Power Incontinence: Somewhat. He was training his Acid magic, but it ended up polluting the sea around the Jaws, which was not his intention. After learning this, he leaves, but he says he will still train his powers.
  • Warmup Boss: Being the first boss that you meet in the game, He can be difficult to dealt if player doesn't know how to dodges his attacks.

Quartermaster

    Enizor
"A sixty-eight year old man who is a renowned alchemist in the Bronze Sea, Enizor left his home of Frostmill Island in pursuit of one last adventure that would complete his life's work. After helping him with some of his research, you asked him to join your crew so that you might help him reach his goal... whatever it may be."
Description
  • Companion-Specific Sidequest: Once you're at level 125, you can accept a sidequest from him that involves collecting 15 Black Shards from random islands in the Dark Sea.
  • Wizard Classic: Although he didn't carry Magic Staff. He still fit to this trope for his appearance. After you do his upgrade quest, he becomes able to use Snow Magic.

    Edward Kenton
"A twenty-seven year old man who served in the Grand Navy since he was twenty."
Description
  • 11th-Hour Ranger: If the player has him hired as a quartermaster and completes the Silverhold raid, he will appear during your rescue cutscene along with your other allies, stating that he couldn't just sit back and do nothing while his captain was missing for a month. It implied that he found Morden finding player too and be friend with them, but he wasn't mentioned in Morden's Journal, or ever talk about at Wind-row by the main characters.
  • Companion-Specific Sidequest: If you have him as quartermaster for a while he will give you a quest to raid Silverhold to get his stuff back. If the player completes this quest he will gain a permanent buff.
  • Defector from Decadence: He quit the Grand Navy for a peaceful life. The Player can invite him to be their Quartermaster after completing his quest, but there's nothing stopping them from working under the Grand Navy while having him on their ship.

Cult of Greenwish

    Cernyx
An Archon of the Cult of Greenwish
  • Optional Boss: He is currently the only boss who is not part of the main story.

The Ravenna Realm

    In general
A kingdom in the War Seas and the largest kingdom in the Bronze Sea specifically.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ravennalogo.png
  • Ancient Rome: Ravenna is heavily inspired by the Roman Empire. In fact, the island was named after a real Italian city that was once the capital of the Western Roman Empire.

Nobles

    King Calvus IV
The ruler of the Ravenna Realm and a High Lord of the Order of Aesir. Serves as the primary antagonist of the Bronze Sea storyline.
  • Fatal Flaw: Calvus' drive for perfection and desire to emulate those beyond his level of talent. Calvus became Savant and tried to master too many different powers at the same time, thus being just average in ever category. This made him the weakest High Lord in Order of Aesir and was one of the reasons why he was defeated by the Player.
  • Light Is Not Good: King Calvus uses Aether Magic, a former mutation of Light Magic in Arcane Adventures, several times in his battle. He's also certainly not a good person, as indicated by things such as his ordering of the killings of several people who were tortured for information on the Death Curse, on top of him being a member of the Order of Aesir, whose goal is to further the power of magic at any cost... and unleash something that's been sealed away. Something that's probably bad, and can only be presumed to have been locked away for a good reason.
  • Power Glows: In his second phase, he drops his crown and replaces it with a crown of pure Aether magic.
  • Universally Beloved Leader: Subverted. The general public of Ravenna adore him, but that's because he makes promises to renovate towns they never see, like Tiberia, and thus can never verify, to appeal to them when in reality he is funnelling most of their funding right back into the most well off towns to improve their quality of life and disguise the real issues plaguing the country. The poor never see a dime of their promised money, and understandably resent him for it.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: Keep in mind that this boss is the first High Lord from the Order of Aesir we fight. He proves his strength well, and certainly gives indication of the potential strength enemies in the Nimbus Sea might present.

    Prince Revon
Prince of Ravenna and the brother of the King Calvus IV.
  • Chick Magnet: Many female NPCs are infatuated with him. It also implied that he used to has girlfriend who later sent to The Eternal mine
  • Post-Final Boss: For King Calvus
  • What the Hell, Hero?: After escaping from Ravenna Castello, the player will run into him, he reminds them that they killed King Calvus before fighting them.
  • The Scream: After defeating him, he'll call you out on his brother's death and declare his intent to hunt you down.
"CURSE YOU, (Player name)! I'LL FOLLOW YOU TO THE END OF THE SEAS FOR WHAT YOU'VE DONE! COME BACK HERE AND FINISH ME OFF! IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME WHO DIED! I'LL KILL YOU AND EVERYONE YOU CARE FOR, JUST LIKE YOU DID TO ME, (Player name)!!!"
  • Warrior Prince: Well, sort of. He's the Prince of Ravenna, and he definitely can use a weapon... though his attempt to attack the player is cut short very quickly.
  • Zero-Effort Boss: He attack player for only few secondsnote  before stand still. allow player to defeat him easily

    Lady Carina
A noblewoman of Ravenna, and an Officer of the Order of Aesir.
  • Healing Boss: She regenerates 7 health per second in her second phase.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Being a boss with high health and can dash around the shinning plain. also capable of teleporting to ambush player in second phrase.

    Lord Elius
An agent for the Order of Aesir and the younger brother of Lady Carina.
  • Healing Boss: One of his moves is drinking a potion (or using his Lightning magic in second phase) and regenerating 150 health.
  • Magic Knight: Him exclusively using weapons and magic confirms that he's a Conjurer.
  • Mr. Exposition: When the player asks him about Sea Curses, he'll begin explaining what they are and what happens to the people who wield them.
    • Also, he's the one who gives the first hints as to who both the first Baron of the Order and the first High Lord of the Order the player encounters are, which provides the setup for the player to eventually learn that there's way more to the Order than what was originally let on.
  • Rain of Arrows: One of his attack is using his bow's skill to perform this.
  • Shock and Awe: When he gets to his second phase, he starts using Lightning Magic in tandem with his weapons.
  • Uncertain Doom: If you spare him, he disappears regardless; he may be hiding, but it's possible that the Order would kill him for his failure.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: Being the first boss that have affiliated with Order of Aesir, and being the first boss that capable of dashing around the arena like player.

Bronze Legion

    General Argos
A Baron of the Order of Aesir and a General of the Bronze Legion.
  • Badass Normal: He was born without any magic but his hard training make him became a general of Bronze Legion.
  • BFS: Both of his weapons, Lion's Halberd and Lance of Loyalty. being a weapons that required both strength and weapons stats to use it skill.
    • Justfied for Lance as vetexgames confirm that it is for ceremonial purposes and create with less dense alloy, make it easy to hold along with a large halberd.
  • Dual Wielding: He hold both Halberd and Lance to fight in second phrase.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: He has red eyes that appear to constantly be glowing. He can also be a fairly difficult boss and is the first Baron of the Order we meet.
  • Shed Armor, Gain Speed: Double Subverted. in his his second phrase where he chestplate is broken, he use his lance to replace the chestplate's weight. but in third phrase where his helmet is broken, he discard both lance and halberd and use Cursebane the devourer, make him gain more mobility.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: Although he's not as difficult as bosses like Lord Elius or King Calvus, General Argos can still pose a challenge to players who don't know how to approach his fight, and is the first Baron of the Order you encounter.

    General Julian
The Glass Curse user who is a General of the Bronze Legion.

The Order of Aesir

     In General
A faction serving as the primary antagonist of the game, and the orchestrator behind some of the events that occur. Currently known members include King Calvus, General Argos, Lady Carina, and Lord Elius.
  • Big Bad: The Order of Aesir’s goal is to further the power of magic, no matter the cost, even if it goes against laws or morals. Later, King Calvus IV reveals that the Order also wants to unleash something that’s been sealed away for some reason. We don’t know what it is yet, other than something that’s obviously bad.
  • Expy: It's possible that the Order of Aesir is a more realized version of the Dark Arts Society from World of Magic. However, given how vague the information on the Dark Arts Society was (namely, the information on their goal) due to World of Magic's development ending as Arcane Odyssey's development began, it isn't possible to confirm this.
  • Necessary Evil: King Calvus tries to justify the Order of Aesir’s actions as this, claiming that the entirety of the War Seas would “fall apart” without the Order. Whether or not this is true is currently unknown.

The Sameria Province

     In General
One of the major locations in the Nimbus Sea. They're in a conflict with Keraxe, ruled by Empress Nilah, and protects Redwake.

Keraxe

     In General
One of the confirmed major locations in the Vimir Seanote . Not much is known about Keraxe at the moment, other than that they're in a conflict with the Sameria Province, its leader, Wotan the Conqueror and his sons desire power and territory, and that its culture is based around vikings.
