Friendly Fandoms / Inter Media General

Go To

  • In spite of the oft-hyped tensions between fans of Star Wars and those of Star Trek, truth is, the two sagas are so different, they don't really step on each other's toes. And in modern times, true pop-culture geeks understand the economics of how TV and film projects get the go-ahead or not, therefore, fans of both works tend to look at the others' success as being a boost to their own favorite.
  • A three way friendly fandom exists between Fire Emblem: Three Houses, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and Persona 3, 4 and 5 fans due to overlapping motifs and coincidences alongside some voice actor jokes. For starters, all three pieces of media have the tarot arcana as central motifs, being names for Fighting Spirit Stands in Jojo, the name of social links in Persona and are indirectly referred to as the basis of the Crests in Three Houses. And then there are the story themes that manage to strike a few chords with each other:
    • The Blue Lions path in Three Houses is predominantly blue themed just like Persona 3, and as with Jojo Part 3, features a moody protagonist fighting an antagonist connected to his past before gradually seeing the value in his companionship.
    • The Golden Deer path in Three Houses meanwhile uses yellow for its theme as does Persona 4, which alongside Jojo Part 4, is about a group of youths trying to solve a mystery amid various deceptions with a wise cracking and charismatic protagonist as their leader.
    • Finally, the Black Eagles path in Three Houses uses a red theme, as does Persona 5, which alongside Jojo Part 5, is about a group of troubled youths that become outcasts in some way, trying to change society for the better even if they have to use illicit means. And the main protagonist of each has a Dark and Troubled Past that fueled their desires for justice, though Edelgard and Giorno differ from Joker in that they actually do want to seize power as an end.
  • There is a sizable overlap between the Voltaire fandom and the fandom of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy. He has written multiple songs for the show. As well, they are both known for their dark sense of humor and supernatural themes. The presence of Voltaire's songs in Billy and Mandy have drawn Voltaire fans to the show, and fans of the show to Voltaire. You will find Billy and Mandy references even in the comment sections of his other works.
  • The Moomins:
    • Many fans tend to be in the They Might Be Giants fandom, or enjoy similar music artists. This may be because both pieces of media have existed for many years, or that both are things that a lot of people have at least heard of, but the fandoms are very esoteric. Also, both have LGBT Fanbases.
    • For no reason in particular, thereā€™s an overlap between the fandom and Good Omens fans.
  • Stranger Things fans tend to get on quite well with fans of It (2017) due to both being stories about child characters set in the eighties and both having Finn Wolfhard in the cast. In fact, there's a lot of overlap between Stranger Things fans and Stephen King fans in general due to how many of King's classic works (It, Carrie, "The Body"/Stand by Me, etc.) served as an inspiration for the show.
  • Due South and Hard Core Logo. Because Canadians have to stick together, eh?
  • There's a great deal of overlap, probably unsurprisingly, between fans of Horatio Hornblower, Aubrey-Maturin, Pirates of the Caribbean, Temeraire and Jane Austen. It's more generally known as the Age Of Sail fandom. Sharpe occasionally gets thrown into the mix as well, though not as often due to Sharpe being a soldier instead of a sailor.
  • Considering My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is a show that teaches the magic of friendship, it makes sense why the fandom is on good terms with many others.
    • Whovians and Bronies have developed some harmony between each other, mostly due to a fan-favorite background character in the latter show reminding everybody of the Tenth Doctor.
    • There is also the friendship between the Bronies and the Valve fandom. Mostly because the Valve games helped to spread the word in its early days, especially Team Fortress 2. Many Team Fortress 2 crossovers have been made, to the point of having designed characters from the show to represent the characters from the game in the crossovers, and many references to the game in the pony-related videos in YouTube. Also helped by the steadily growing number of pony models for Garry's Mod and Source Filmmaker, which are used to create most TF2 fanvids.
    • One notable fandom overlap with MLP is Dwarf Fortress. It seems odd, but almost a third of the DF community is a brony. It helps that, when a pony conversion mod was made, the ponies proved themselves to be quite capable of dealing with the usual dwarven troubles, surpassing the dorfs themselves at times.
    • Bronies and Sonic the Hedgehog fans get along quite well. Fan art often emphasizes the similarities between characters of the two series (i.e., Sonic and Rainbow Dash, Knuckles and Applejack, and so on). Most fans at least. The Vocal Minorities of both fandoms seem to unreasonably hate each other for no reason, leading to Equestria Daily banning Sonic-related content.
    • There's a decent overlap between fans of FiM and Spyro the Dragon, particularly the Insomniac-era games, due to most of the show's Periphery Demographic growing up with the games in the 90's, along with their similar art-styles, creature designs, settings (High Fantasy with no humans staring mythical creatures) and tone. (Kid-friendly with the occasional dark moment)
    • Homestuck sees a good deal of camaraderie with Bronies, partially due to both franchises tending to dominate attention across the internet and being resultant. Naturally, this also causes some strife. The fact that fan favorite badass Dirk Strider is a Brony serves to smooth out the edges.
    • Bronies also tend to get along with Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy fans, most likely inspired by Edgar Wright responding favorably to a fan-made crossover of My Little Pony and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
    • Unsurprisingly, many Bronies are also associated with the Furry Fandom, likely due to both fandoms being centered around cartoon animals and producing a large amount of fan art.
    • Quite a few PAW Patrol fans also happen to be bronies.
    • Given the nature of the fandom, the bronies tend to cross ponies with everything at some point, even leading to getting a rule of their own added to the Rules of the Internet (Rule 85) and that rule being accepted in the standard list now. That being said, you would be hard-pressed to find any fandom the bronies as a whole truly do not like. As for vice versa, your mileage may vary.
  • For obvious reasons like the Rule of Cool and Rated M for Manly aspects of Professional Wrestling (particularly with the Attitude Era) taken up to eleven, fans of various Real-life Wrestling Organizations do get along with fans of the Kinnikuman franchise (thanks to Ultimate Muscle). They also get along with franchises (particularly with Fighting Games) that give Shout-Out(s) to it like Tekken and Street Fighter.
  • The Mystery Science Theater 3000 fandom has a large crossover percentage with Transformers fans. This gives the Transformers fandom a healthy dose of self-awareness about itself bordering on Self-Deprecation. It's no accident that the ironic use of Ruined FOREVER originated with Transformers fans; in return, Dull Surprise became a meme regarding the poor artwork of Pat Lee. The MST3K influence is very heavily felt on the TFWiki. And the TF fandom has a large percentage of crossover with the MLP fandom; it's only natural since they're both Hasbro properties. Many convention-exclusive comic book covers have the Ponies and the bots interacting (ie. Vinyl Scratch and Soundwave playing music as DJs). Also helping is a notable fanfic, The Elements of Harmony and the Savior of Worlds, which not only bring the human characters from 80s MLP into the modern version, but also brings in the original Transformers cartoon, plus G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, Jem, and Inhumanoids too (as they were all prone to Cross Through in their heyday).
  • A lot of fans of Western Animation tend to also be fans of Middle Grade children's literature. It is quite common to see Cartoon youtubers cover Middle grade children's literature on their channel.
  • You can expect many Touhou Project fans to be Puella Magi Madoka Magica fans and vice versa. Especially if they cosplay. The Touhou fandom is also very friendly with the Vocaloid fandom since both are series popularized by fan-submitted content.
  • There is a lot of overlap between fans of the video game Titanfall and the anime and manga series Attack on Titan, both of which center on conflicts between massive "Titans" and infantry with equipment to enhance mobility.
  • Rival fandoms who team up with each other to fight a bigger Rival Fandom can develop into this over time. The rivalry between Mario and Sonic has developed into this, for example.
    • Sega has also stated that once they couldn't afford to make consoles anymore they preferred making games for the GameCube because of the similarities between the Nintendo and Sega fandoms. It's no wonder that those fanbases love to team up against the Sony and Microsoft fandoms.
  • For obvious reasons, fans of Grand Theft Auto, The Fast and the Furious, Need for Speed, Burnout and other Cool Car (or Cool Vehicle) based franchises are getting along.
  • Many AlternateHistory.com users are fans of Code Geass, due to the series being set in an alternate history. A good deal of timelines on the site are also Code Geass fanfics.
  • With the advent of the new Doctor Who, there seems to be a deliberate effort underway to unite Who fans and Star Trek fans. Besides little things like Patrick Stewart being a big Who fan and Freema Agyeman and John Barrowman being Niners, there's also Stewart and David Tennant appearing in an OldVic production of Hamlet. And now, there's an official crossover comic from IDW publishing pitting the Enterprise-D and the 11th Doctor against a super-villain alliance between the Borg and Cybermen.
  • A great deal of Hellsing fans are well-versed in the Darker and Edgier reboot of the Castlevania franchise. While both universes have a character named Alucard, it's the seemliness between Hellsing's Alucard and Castlevania's Dracula that unites them. note
  • Sherlock and Cabin Pressure, due to the shared presence of Benedict Cumberbatch.
  • Western Animation fans and Anime fans are beginning to get along pretty well. Several Western Animation characters are even drawn in Anime style on DeviantArt, most notably the South Park characters (the latter probably helped by the fact that Trey Parker, one of the creators of the aforementioned show, is a fan of anime).
  • There are several Homestar Runner/Penny Arcade crossover artworks and fanfictions on DeviantArt, especially thanks to Poker Night at the Inventory.
  • Fans of Batman: The Animated Series tend to easily become fans of the Batman: Arkham Series, since Paul Dini, head writer of BTAS, wrote for the Arkham series, and many VAs from the DC Animated Universe returned to voice their respective characters, notably Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamill as The Joker. Quite notable in that most fandoms of each Batman adaptation tend to be venomous towards each other.
  • If you're a fan of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, chances are you're also a fan of A Song of Ice and Fire, particularly HBO's Game of Thrones series. A sizable portion of Skyrim's library of Game Mods is devoted to adding Game of Thrones-related content to the game — there is more than one mod that adds a fully-modeled Longclaw, for example.
  • There's also some overlap between Game of Thrones fans and players of Crusader Kings II, since the latter is essentially a medieval politics simulator. There's a Game of Thrones-themed Game Mod which is reasonably popular, which has, in turn, inspired a number of After-Action Report fan fictions. Now that there is also a mod for Crusader Kings II that allows you to play as one of the rulers in Tamriel, it seems the cycle is now complete.
  • With the release of The Avengers, the Tumblr-born SuperWho to SuperWhoLock pattern mentioned in the TV section continued, and now we have SuperWhoAvengeLock. Any and all smaller combos of the four show up too.
  • Since, in Japan, Pretty Cure airs in the same kids block as Super Sentai and Kamen Rider, they're going to be grouped together in a lot of fans' minds anyway, but it has a special relationship in 2012 due to the Japanese fandom almost unanimously deciding that Yayoi is a Toku fan, and, like most fan things, exaggerating it. To wonderful effect.
  • Many Hetalia: Axis Powers fans also like the lesser-known Scandinavia and the World, due to the similar premises of the series.
  • There is quite a bit of overlap between the fandoms of Discworld and Slayers.
  • It seems there are a fair few My Little Pony fans (as in, fans of the franchise in general, not Friendship is Magic in particular) who are also PokĆ©mon fans, perhaps due to both of them being child-oriented and collecting-oriented.
  • Hell, a fair chunk of Tumblr is dedicated to giant love piles of fandom friendship.
  • Fans of Comic Books, collectible card games like Magic: The Gathering, tabletop wargames like Warhammer 40,000, and roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons see considerable overlap, since all are often found under the same roof.
  • Many fans of Les MisĆ©rables (2012), followed Aaron Tveit and George Blagden, the actors who portrayed fan favorite characters Enjolras and Grantaire, to their next projects, Graceland and Vikings. This led to a lot of mingling and friendship between the three fandoms.
  • Ultra Series fans and Godzilla's fandom tend to overlap a fair bit, thanks to their shared love of kaiju and special effects wizard's Eiji Tsuburaya's influential involvement in the early days of both franchises.
  • Pacific Rim:
  • Gravity Falls, ParaNorman, Coraline, and Psychonauts form what is collectively called "Mystery Kids". Gravity Falls is also commonly seen with Welcome to Night Vale and Twin Peaks. Fans of Gravity Falls are also being friends with fans of the Mortal Kombat games, because Gravity Falls is a better family-friendly animated Mortal Kombat show than the actual one we had, except as a Mystery Dramedy. Emman, of all people even made an April Fools' Day suggestion meme if Bill Cipher, of all Villains became the next Guest Fighter for a match against Shao Kahn to see who is the scariest villain of all Horror Villains due to him making comparisons of them.
  • The Nippon Ichi and When They Cry fanbase, namely due to the former being big players in movements to localize the later.
  • Fans of Marvel and Mortal Kombat are getting along with the point of some Guest Fighter suggestions from the former in the latter (especially with Deadpool) as the Company can handle Darker and Edgier themes and stuff like DC can.
  • Fans of post cancellation Family Guy and The Big Bang Theory are often friendly with each other because both shows rely on pop culture references for jokes and have very similar humor. Of course, this would also include Friendly Hatedoms of both.
  • The World of Tanks and Girls und Panzer fandoms are essentially the same people, and both the game and the show became runaway Sleeper Hits by drawing on each other's success, particularly in Japan where the latter's cult following started.
  • League of Legends and anime fans in general with some overlap of Fandom Rivalry. It also helps to note that there are a lot of anime-like cliches in the game, the Riot staff members being anime geeks themselves, and the voice actors who voiced champions in this game also work in the anime dubs themselves.
  • Homestuck:
    • Homestuck and Hetalia: Axis Powers used to have quite the rivalry, but after realizing that the two fandoms overlap a lot, they've made up and declared themselves each others Moirails. Hetalia has also struck a chord with some AlternateHistory.com users as well, with all the frequent Alternate Universe Fic opportunities.
    • Homestuck and Danganronpa also have a decent overlap, which makes sense since both series have a tendency to kill off their characters after fleshing them out and giving them unique personalities, and both series involve teens having to deal with The End of the World as We Know It in different ways. It's also thought the fans of the former latched onto the latter because the former is on hiatus leading up to the final act.
    • Fans of Homestuck tend to overlap with fans of Undertale a great deal, due to both of them involving the musical genius of Toby Fox.
    • Also for a short while with the OFF fandom, though it faded into flavor of the month territory.
    • 17776 deserves special mention, as upon becoming popular it was instantly compared to Homestuck, and therefore the fandoms of both overlapped heavily.
    • The McElroy Brothers of The Adventure Zone: Balance have noted the overlap of its fandom with Homestuck's, particularly after fans pointed out many strange similarities between the two stories (for one thing, the fact that both end in lesbian weddings.) Despite this, none of the brothers have actually read Homestuck.
    • It'd actually be quicker to list the fandoms Homestuck DOESN'T overlap with.
  • Hannibal and Welcome to Night Vale have so many fans in common that co-producer Jeffrey Cranor attributed the spike in Night Vale's popularity on Tumblr to the simultaneous rise of the Fannibals. It's easy to see what they have in common: both shows are horror-oriented and surreal, with Creepy Good protagonists and a very morbid sense of humour, and while Hannibal is a much more serious show, its fandom tends to be light-hearted and irreverent in a way that doesn't clash with the Night Vale fandom's sense of whimsy.
  • Since Wicked and Frozen have similar themes, share Idina Menzel playing a main character, and have an "I Am Becoming" Song as their Signature Song, fandoms between the two overlap a lot.
    • There's also some overlap with the anime Kill la Kill. Both feature, anti-respectively, an Ice Queen and An Ice Person (who happens to be a queen) with fitting amounts of blue in their character designs, stepping out of a hidebound, tradition-controlled isolation, and both feature two formerly close sisters brought back together. It certainly helps that Frozen premiered during Kill's run on TV.
    • In addition, the fandom of Captain America: The Winter Soldier also tends to overlap with Frozen's fandom, with the conflict between the two sisters being compared to that of the one between Steve Rogers and Winter Soldier/ Bucky Barnes, to the point that it is common for fans to draw Anna and Elsa as the former two.
    • Frozen and Tangled is more common than any other princess movie crossover. A large portion of it has to do with a small Rapunzel cameo at the start of the film.
  • Fans of Fighting Games, particularly Street Fighter, also tend to love Dragon Ball. Considering both predominantly feature a bunch of martial artists firing off ki blasts, it's really no surprise. This eventually culminated in Dragon Ball Fighter Z, a Dragon Ball fighting game made by the same developers of other renowned fighting games like Guilty Gear and its Creator-Driven Successor BlazBlue. Similarly, fans of Dragon Ball (in addition to much of the Shonen Jump library) and Sonic the Hedgehog tend to be friends too.
  • Curiously enough, there seems to be a budding overlap between KanColle and Hetalia: Axis Powers. Which makes sense given that both series include personified beings as well as involve World War II and history to some degree.
  • The Sonic the Hedgehog fandom may have a notorious vocal minority that seems to dislike anything that isn't Sonic (and is remarkably picky about Sonic), but even they get along well with Batman fans. This is most likely because these Sonic fans grew up during The '90s, whose perception of Sonic was shaped tremendously by Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) (the Saturday morning series simply titled Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie Comics), both of which were incredibly dark series for their target audiences), and Batman: The Animated Series and Tim Burton's Batman (1989) had a similarly dark and bleak feel.
  • Sonic the Hedgehog and Mortal Kombat, due to both franchises starting in the early 90s, both franchises being the go-to series for the Sega Genesis, and both being popular game series in the western world, despite the fact that Sonic is a family-friendly franchise and Mortal Kombat is an adult-targeted franchise. Even fans of the late Michael Jackson, Queen and Sonic do get along too.
  • The Book of Life:
    • The fandom boasts multiple crossover fanarts, especially with SpongeBob SquarePants.
    • This movie sparked a lot more interest in the Pixar movie Coco that is based on the Day of the Dead. The movie originally had a lot of flack from many wondering how you could even make a movie about the holiday, but The Book of Life proved you could make a good movie that wasn't just a Halloween redress.
    • Unsurprising, considering the mutual love for friendly, skeletal protagonists, but a lot of The Nightmare Before Christmas fans love the film. A common headcanon is that La Muerte is related to Jack Skellington, perhaps his mother or sister.
    • Kubo and the Two Strings also gets a lot of love from Book of Life fans due to the films' similar themes and fledgling cult status. The friendship between Gutierrez and Kubo creator Shannon Tindle helps as well.
  • A lot of Case Closed fans enjoy Sherlock due to their main influence being the Sherlock Holmes canon. For some strange reason, they also enjoy Doctor Who.
  • The Dark Souls fandom generally gets along quite well with the Berserk fan base, due to the latter being a big inspiration for the former. Many fans bond over the similarities between the two franchises, enjoying the Expies, Shout Outs, and creating Berserk characters and builds in the games. This got even more pronounced with Bloodborne.
  • The above-mentioned Bloodborne is overall held in extremely high regard by Lovecraft fans, and there is a ton of crossover between the two fanbases, for Bloodborne being such a faithful send-up to his mythos, along with being a rare video game/visual media that manages to truly capture the existential dread and unknowable nature of those works.
  • Fans of the film Starship Troopers have significant overlap with fans of Earth Defense Force, a video game that also features soldiers squaring off against giant bugs. There is also overlap with fans of Helldivers and its sequel, particularly given the combination of a Bug War and lore about authoritarian governments mobilizing space-faring soldiers while using propaganda to justify their war.
  • There's some overlap of mecha anime (especially Super Robot) fans and fans of tokusatsu series such as Kamen Rider or Super Sentai (and by extension, Power Rangers). It helps that Super Sentai outright has giant robots. For a while it wasn't too unusual to see tokusatsu threads on /m/. Generally, super robot fans will appreciate anything that has that "Super Robot Spirit" even if it doesn't have mecha.
  • Rhythm Game fans and Love Live! fans tend to have some sense of overlap. While part of this can be attributed to Love Live! School Idol Festival, there are rhythm game fans who watch Love Live! School Idol Project too.
    • Another Love Live! example, though only in the beginning phase so far, is CatDog and Love Live! on DeviantArt. There is some fanart of Honoka Kousaka meeting and even befriending Dog and a series of oneshot crossover fanfictions where Honoka lands in Nearburg is currently being written by a Deviantartist named SonicAndHildaFan11.
    • Surprisingly, fans of Love Live! are starting to go on friendly terms with the Sakigake!! Otokojuku fan community. One of the things both of these series have in common (other than being set in High Schools, obviously) would be the Memetic Mutation(s) like the Catchphrases ("Nico-Nico Nii!!!" and "WASHI GA OTOKOJUKU JUKUCHOU, EDAJIMA HEIHACHI DE ARU!!!!!!" by Nico and this Heihachi).
    • Some of Lovelivers are also into other 2D idol franchises. Notably a sizable portion of "Love Live!" fans are into its rival, The iDOLM@STER. This wasn't gone unnoticed by the franchises, with both iM@S and Love Live! recently held a collaboration concert in Tokyo Dome at the end of 2023.
    • Lovelivers also have a friendly relationship with the fans of Bushiroad franchises such as "BanG Dream!!" and "D4DJ". This could be attributed to Bushiroad publishing Love Live! games as well as the franchises have similar cast of voice actresses.
  • Steven Universe and Dragon Ball Z get along well since both series feature use of the Fusion Dance trope to combine characters into more powerful forms, and crossovers showing Arc Villain Peridot as Vegeta and Jasper as Nappa are very common.
    • In a more general sense, there are a lot of anime fans who are also fans of Steven Universe and vice versa. This has the side effect of having created a one-sided Fandom Rivalry, however, due to anime fans who aren't interested in Steven Universe getting inundated with Steven Universe discussion everywhere they go.
  • Steven Universe and Little Witch Academia fans also get along given Studio Trigger's collaborations with Steven Universe's staff, and with Rebecca Sugar and Ian Jones Quarterly also getting cameos in Little Witch Academia's second movie and Series Finale. Both also have a sizable LGBT Fanbase.
  • Steven Universe fans love making memes that crossover with JoJo's Bizarre Adventure given that Steven's power is to heal people like Jouske's stand, the fact that Part 4 of Jojo is called Diamond Is Unbreakable, Steven sporting something akin to Jouske's hair at one point and the fusion of him and his father resembling Jouske as if he was drawn in Araki's Part 1-3 overly buff style. Both works in general are also pretty flamboyent at times.
  • The Lion King, Balto, Wolf's Rain, One Stormy Night, Lady and the Tramp, Warrior Cats, and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron get along a lot due to being animal-centric works that deal with deeper themes.
  • The Fox and the Hound, Leafie, a Hen into the Wild, Bambi, Ringing Bell, Watership Down, The Animals of Farthing Wood, and The Plague Dogs often share fans and fans tend to get along due to them being depressing animations about animals.
  • Unico:
  • A lot of Undertale fans enjoy JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, likely due to similarities between DIO and both the Mad Dummy and Mettaton EX, as well as between Asriel and the Fallen Child and young Jonathan Joestar and Dio Brando, respectively.
  • At least on Tumblr, there is a good overlap between Les MisĆ©rables fans and Hamilton fans. Makes sense considering the similarities between Hamilton and the theatre adaptation of Les MisĆ©rables: both are musicals based on historical events, with some of their plot revolving around a(n attempted) revolution. It probably also helped that Hamilton debuted around the time Les MisĆ©rables fans were running out of material from the 2012 film adaptation.
    • For some reason, there was a period around 2016 when many Haikyuu!! fans were also Hamilton fans.
  • Labyrinth fans and Strange Magic fans tend to have a lot of overlap due to similarities between Jareth and the Bog King and the overall aesthetic of the film. Undertale pops up in the Labyrinth fandom as well, probably because both take place underground. With the popularity of Roommates and Girls Next Door, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Phantom of the Opera and Les MisĆ©rables fans often have some presence in Labyrinth-dominated spaces, and vice versa.
  • The RWBY fandom has quite a few Studio Gainax or Studio TRIGGER fans in it, especially Kill la Kill and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, mostly because of their Troperrific and Rule of Cool status. It's only natural, seeing as the creator of RWBY Monty Oum stated that at least two of Gainax's anime (the aforementioned Gurren Lagann and Neon Genesis Evangelion) influenced his show and confessed to enjoying the latter.
  • A peculiar case concerns GameStop customers, who tend to also be fans of the burger chain Smashburger due to their respective logos looking suspiciously similar.
  • TRON fans? Chances are, they're also working with ReBoot (very similar premise and computer humor). TRON: Uprising fans also gravitate towards Star Wars Rebels (similar themes and Doomed by Canon), or the Voltron reboot. And yes, they're also terribly friendly with The Big Lebowski, Babylon 5, and Scarecrow and Mrs. King
  • Fans of Warhammer 40,000 are, in many cases, also fans of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Probably because both franchises tend to be seen as both hyper-masculine and filled with balls-to-the-wall Success Through Insanity-driven characters.
  • Yuri!!! on Ice and Check, Please! have a very close-knit fandom. Both series focus on an ice sport (figure skating and hockey, respectively), and Queer Romance. Among other similarities, Yuri and Jack share an anxiety disorder while Bitty used to be an ice skater.
  • Many Yuri!!! on Ice fans are also Voltron: Legendary Defender fans. The massive popularity of male/male ships among the latter probably has something to do with this.
  • For whatever the reason, the Warrior Cats fandom is really into Hamilton. The two fandoms share a lot of fans and there are numerous fan-animations to Hamilton songs.
  • Wonder Woman (2017):
    • Wonder Woman and Battlefield 1 fans really get along with each other as both of their works are set in World War I and are credited for reigniting popular interest in the conflict.note  There are many jokes and memes about how Wonder Woman would be great DLC material for Battlefield 1. Also both entries have their own version of a "killer" ā€“ Battlefield 1 has been called the COD Killer for having superior critical reception than its rival game Call Of Duty Infinite Warfare while the titular heroine of Wonder Woman is called a "God Killer" for killing the Ares the God of War.
    • In sharp contrast to the animosity between the DCEU and Arrowverse fans, there is a strong friendship between Wonder Woman and Supergirl (2015) fans. Diana and Kara are idealistic, cheerful superheroines who love ice cream and are praised as ideal female role models. It helps that their respective leads are good friends in real life.
    • Wonder Woman and Agent Carter fans find camaraderie with each other over their protagonists. Both Diana and Peggy have been praised for being strong female superheroes in a World War setting who face sexism and discrimination for their gender. As an added bonus, Gal Gadot and Hayley Atwell are very supportive of one another and have made appearances together at fan conventions to promote female leads in geek culture.
  • Sony's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is popular among both DCEU and MCU fans even though it doesn't belong in either franchise. DCEU fans like Into the Spider-Verse since it is a competitor to the MCU and has diverse representation just like the DCEU. Despite the MCU fandom's general disdain towards Sony's handling of the newer live-action Spider-Man movies, most MCU fans are generally supportive of Into the Spider-Verse since the people behind it wanted to make a genuinely good movie instead of a subpar cash grab.
  • Rogue One fans? Odds are that they also like Halo: Reach. Both are Darker and Edgier prequels of popular sci-fi franchises involving special forces squads for going on a Suicide Mission to recover data on a superweapon for the heroes of the original trilogy.
  • Fans who grew up watching certain Disney shows aimed at Younger ones with a Multiple Demographic Appeal like Jake and the Never Land Pirates in addition to Miles from Tomorrowland are friends with whatever with many young and old fans enjoying it. The Creator of the latter expressed approval of the series appearing in a Kingdom Hearts game.
  • Supernatural and Good Omens, due to Good Omens sharing a lot of parallels with the later seasons of Supernatural (They feature the Apocalypse, and both have Noble Demon characters named Crowley). Good Omens may get also thrown into the aforementioned SuperWholock fandom.
  • Good Omens (mainly its 2019 Live-Action Adaptation) shares this with The Good Place due to their similarities in tone and both shows focusing on how the afterlife interacts with humanity. Neil Gaiman himself has even said, "I think [Crowley] would love The Good Place."
  • Many Flight Rising players are fans of Wings of Fire due to both being set in a world of sapient dragons in elemental regions.
  • Thanks to Netflix, BoJack Horseman and Aggretsuko got these for having a few key elements in common. Both take place in worlds with Funny Animals (although Aggretsuko doesn't seem to have humans), the protagonists are adults who struggle with life (BoJack with depression and Retsuko with stress/anger respectively), and brutally honest views on adulthood. note
  • Young Justice and Titans (2018) have very friendly communities and often share members and news with each other. This is primarily because both are sister shows on the DC Universe streaming service as the first two originals announced, and it certainly helps that both had a history of being Screwed by the Network; Cartoon Network cancelled Young Justice out of nowhere, while TNT prevented Titans from ever being made on their network. As a result, the two are very much in support of each other, wanting the other series to succeed as much as their own.
  • The Adventure Zone: Balance and Critical Role share a lot of fans, which is probably unsurprising given that the former is among the most popular actual-play TTRPG podcasts while the latter is among the most popular actual-play TTRPG webshows. It helped that both series ended their long-running first campaigns within a few months of each other, giving sad fans the perfect opportunity to migrate fandoms.
  • The Game of Thrones fandom overlaps pretty significantly with the Harry Potter and Star Wars fandoms, partly due to sharing actors with the other two franchises. For Harry Potter fans, the show features David Bradley (Argus Filch) as Walder Frey, Natalia Tena (Nymphadora Tonks) as Osha, Michelle Fairley (Hermione Granger's mother) as Catelyn Stark, and Ralph Ineson (Amycus Carrow) as Dagmer Cleftjaw. For Star Wars fans, it features Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma) as Brienne of Tarth, Max von Sydow (Lor San Tekka) as the Three-Eyed Raven, Jessica Henwick (Jess Testor) as Nymeria Sand, and Julian Glover (General Veers) as Grand Maester Pycelle.note
  • Fans of Eddsworld tend to also be fans of Osomatsu-san. Given the fact that both shows are about the often surreal adventures of a group of childish men in colorful hoodies, this isn't surprising.
  • There is a lot of overlap between fans of Naruto and Kingdom Hearts, since the former's anime and the latter series started the same year (2002), and because many of the characters are similar, particularly with Naruto and Sora being friendship-driven Stock Shonen Heroes, Sasuke and Riku being brooding Stock Shonen Rivals who lose themselves to evil at least once over the course of their respective series, and Akatsuki and Organization XIII being black cloak-wearing villain groups who want to Take Over the World.
  • Naruto fans overlap greatly with those of Harry Potter due to several similarities, particularly how both series star an orphan and the focus on a Power Trio of main characters. Masashi Kishimoto himself acknowledged this.
  • Though there may be a contingent that (playfully) claims the latter is a ripoff, fans of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Persona are very tight with one another. This is mainly due to how both series are Japanese productions involving people fighting with manifestations of their spirit, both series heavily reference popular culture in some way (popular music for JoJo, myth and religion for Persona), and (at least for Part 3 for JoJo) both series heavily indulge in Tarot Motifs. The fourth iterations in both works also revolve around a murder mystery in a Japanese town, while the fifth iteration in both works also feature a gang of troubled youths using less than ethical methods to transform society for the better.
  • There's overlap between the fandoms of Horrible History Metal band Sabaton and historical Documentary series World War II. It makes sense, as the war is the subject of many of the band's songs, WW2 host Indy Neidell is a fan himself of the band and collaborates with them to produce the Sabaton History channel in which Indy explains the history behind the music and the band members give behind the scenes stories of the songwriting.
  • Fans of SpongeBob SquarePants and PokĆ©mon get along pretty well, considering both franchises are very firmly rooted in the childhoods of kids from The '90s and The Noughties.
  • Fans of My Hero Academia along with various Superhero media are friends because of the aspects being inspired by American Superhero comics.
  • Around The New '10s, fans of The Witcher franchise and the A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones franchise started to overlap greatly. This is due to both franchises being set in dark, low fantasy settings with a great deal of moral complexity and intrigue, and due to both franchises starting as book series published in The '90s only to obtain mainstream popularity with later adaptations. It's very common to see Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones fans request CD Projekt RED to make their own video game adaptation similar to those of The Witcher thanks to the shared fandom.
  • Those who like lesser-known Mons Series (outside of PokĆ©mon and Digimon) tend to be very friendly with others who like lesser-known Mons Series, even if they don't like the same franchises, due to it being a rarer genre. In particular, Siralim fans tend to be very friendly with fans of other Mons franchises, despite Siralim being one of the more unusual series in the genre.
  • There seems to be overlap in some places between Zootopia and Five Nights at Freddy's, due to both containing Funny Animals.
  • Taylor Swift is a fan of Killing Eve, and many of her fans have followed her lead in becoming fans of the show as well.
  • Justin Timberlake being heavily involved with the Trolls franchise, meant that many of his fans would quickly become fans of the movies. There's also some major overlap with the Pitch Perfect fanbase, thanks to Anna Kendrick being the voice actress for lead character Poppy.
  • Beastars and Zootopia share a fandom due to their shared furry appeal and similar premises to analyze a society of carnivores and herbivores trying to live together, even though the former can be considered a Spiritual Antithesis to the former.
  • NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Godzilla due to their shared connection with Hideaki Anno, as he was a animator of the anime adaption of the former, created Neon and co-directed Shin Godzilla. It also helps that both the characters of NausicaƤ and Mothra from Godzilla are both pacifists.
  • The Irishman and Breaking Bad, due to having plots involving organized crime and corruption as well as the shared presence of Jesse Plemons. The fact that El Camino was released a month before The Irishman certainly helps.
  • Due to both sharing an element of playing simple games for money, Mario Party and Squid Game share a lot of fans despite the latter being far bloodier. Going further, three of the six games in the first season of Squid Game have explicit counterparts in some Mario Party mini-games: Red Light, Green Light to Sneak 'n' Snore, Dalgona Honeycomb to Crazy Cutters, and Tug of War to Tug o' War. It helps that these three mini-games all returned in Mario Party Superstars, released little more than a month after Squid Game's debut.
  • Yu-Gi-Oh!:
    • Enough people actually watch the anime without really being terribly interested in the card game that it could be classified as its own fandom. There are entire successful Youtube channels dedicated to just talking about the anime. So naturally, it gets this with TCG fans.
    • It doesn't necessarily go both ways, but if someone you know is into the TCG, it's not an unreasonable bet that they like JRPGs too.
  • Thomas & Friends
    • The Thomas fandom and the TUGS fandom go hand-in-hand. This is because of the similar concepts, and the fact that a good chunk of the production team of TUGS also worked on Thomas. The show was even created by David Mitton and Robert Cardona, who were the series' then director and producer, respectively. It's even implied that both shows take place in the same universe (especially with Big Mickey becoming a character in Season 21 after his model was just there as a case of Prop Recycling. There's even clear parallels to his character in TUGS).
      • The incredibly-popular fan series The Stories of Sodor started off as a version of TUGS with Thomas characters, with clear parallels between the characters, and plots being adapted wholesale, mixed with original stories and realistic versions of Railway Series and TV series episodes.
    • There's also a nice overlap with the Theodore Tugboat fandom, given that Robert D. Cardona worked on that show as well as Thomas and TUGS. Theodore is similar to the aforementioned TUGS, but is more kid-friendly.
    • The Thomas fandom and the Transformers fandom have a good overlap, most likely owing to the Trains Formers fan videos.
    • Despite the above-mentioned Fandom Rivalries, there are a few Thomas fans who like Chuggington and PAW Patrol as well.
    • Many Thomas fans are also My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fans, and there are a lot of fanfics and fanart crossing over the two. Unfortunately, a lot of it ships the engines with the ponies.
    • Many fans of Mr. Men are also Thomas fans, and fanfics and fanart crossing over the two are not uncommon.
    • The series often gets paired with Anpanman for many reasons. For one, both the original stories came out from the aftermath of World War II and the series feature a lot of characters with colorful personalities. The other is that a lot of the voice actors from both the Japanese and Latin American sides work on the series (the best example is Keiko Toda who voices the titular character in both shows).
  • Teddy Ruxpin, Chuck E. Cheese, The Rock-A-Fire Explosion and Furby fans all tend to get along well with each other, as all four of these franchises involve animatronics.
  • More than a few fans of The Transformers are also BattleTech fans due to the commonalities of giant stompy robots in a war-torn future, strong character-driven stories, a brisk initial run in the 80s through early 90s as classic "boy's-toys" type material, and a mutual deep-seated hatred for Harmony Gold that lingers even to this day. Occasionally the Super Dimension Fortress Macross fandom joins in for much the same reasons, thus forming a holy trinity of giant robots, war stories, and hatred for legal shenanigans.
  • The Song of Achilles and Hades. Both are works set on Ancient Greece, but what really made the fandoms bond was the presence of Achilles and Patroclus in both. The former work is a retelling of The Iliad that portrays the two in a romantic relationship, while the later feature them in after-life, and while also in love, they're separated by different layers of the underworld. Similarities to how both characters are portrayed in these works, and even the director of the latter indicating the former as a source of inspiration made fans interested in the shared storytelling potential both works had, with a popular fanon in this intersection of fans being that the events of both works happened, and the side-quest in the latter where player character Zagreus reunites Achilles and Patroclus in Elysium is what leads to the end of the novel, where they are finally Together in Death, and the book serves as the characters backstories in the game.
  • Fans of Top Gun and fans of Ace Combat get along very well, as the two works are about dogfighting. It helps that when Top Gun: Maverick came out, a few days later, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, had gotten a DLC pack in collaboration with the film. The Darkstar, the fictional aircraft from Maverick, also looks like it fits right in with Ace Combat.
  • Turning Red:
    • With American Dragon: Jake Long, as both works involve 13-year-old protagonists in the early 2000s, whose maternal family bloodline is blessed with the ability to transform into mystical animal beings. Both even have red as their Color Motif (in clothing and forms). Fans of both works have pointed out the similarities between the two and have drawn some fanart and fics of them together.
    • With Baymax! as the third episode has the subject about a girl getting her first period just like the film serves as a metaphor about getting a period. There's even a scene of Baymax getting tampons just like how Ming has pads ready for her daughter.
    • A minor one with Centaurworld because of Mei's drawings of Devon as a merman, due to the "hot mermen" magazine from Centaurworld that got similar memetic attention.
    • With Derry Girls, as both feature a group of teen girls (and one boy), who look and behave like actual, realistic teenagers. note
  • In the West, there's a fair overlap between players of shmups and players of Pinball. In addition to both genres having arcade roots, both genres often involve detailed scoring systems that require performing technical feats to score plenty of bonus points, and which can require reflexes or knowledge of patterns and game-specific elements to keep the player's current ball/life alive.
  • Scream (2022) and Wednesday share a lot of fans, due to both being modern updates to franchises, both coming out in 2022, and both staring Jenna Ortega. In fact, they had already shared fans before Wednesday even aired.
  • Fans of Don't Hug Me I'm Scared naturally latched on to Welcome Home (Clown Illustrations), as both series feature a puppet show that isn't all what it seems to be on the surface. Even comparisons have been made between Wally Darling and Yellow Guy due to them both being yellow puppets with blue hair.
  • Even before the latter premiered, the Sonic the Hedgehog live-action film series and The Super Mario Bros. Movie both had contingents of fans who, unlike some others, didn't hold a grudge against the other movie and were excited to see how they turned out compared to each other, and to see examples of video game movies that, for once, are actually received warmly by audiences. The Sonic Twitter account encouraged this with a few jokes about the Mario movie.
  • Fans of VTubers tend to get on well with fans of Professional Wrestling, thanks to both VTubing and pro wrestling placing emphasis on creative character gimmicks and a layer of Kayfabe. It's not unheard of for fans with hololive and Nijisanji signs to appear in the crowd at WWE and AEW shows. A fair few VTubers are known to be big fans of pro wrestling, and some wrestlers are themselves fans of VTubers - WWE's Asuka and Hololive's Sakura Miko are even fans of each other!
  • As two of the most preeminent stories about a Villain Protagonist, Death Note and Breaking Bad share many fans, with many of them pointing out how both series feature a dissatisfied genius who leads a double life concealed from their family, slides further into darkness, and are relentlessly pursued by law enforcement.
  • Fans of Gravity Falls and Doki Doki Literature Club! tend to get along pretty well, thanks to .GIFfany and Monika having similar Yandere sides.
