Season 5

     Cluedle-Doo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tms_us_s5_cluedle_doo_5.jpg

Real Identity: Donnie Wahlberg
Song sung: "Return of the Mack" by Mark Morrison

  • Breaking Old Trends: This costume is the first one in Masked history to not be a contestant; rather, he shares new clues on the competing costumes' identities.
    • He's also the first costume to be completely reused from another version of the show (particularly, Gallo from the Mexican version ¿Quién es la máscara?).
  • Evil Laugh: Lets out an impressive one at several points.
  • Foreshadowing: A one-word clue relating to his identity, exclusive to the show's official podcast, was "buns". As in burger buns, referencing Wahlburgers.
  • Large Ham: It's clear he's having way too much fun with what he's doing.
  • Shaking the Rump: He does this towards the end of his performance of "Return Of The Mack".
  • Troll: His main role is to mess with the panelist as much as possible.

     Snail
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tms_us_s5_snail_0.jpg

Ranking: Group A: First-round elimination
Real Identity: Kermit the Frog
Song sung: "You Make My Dreams (Come True)" by Daryl Hall and John Oates
Intro Song: "I Want To Break Free" by Queen

  • Breaking Old Trends: The Snail is the first fully-motorized costume on the show, while the celebrity underneath it is the first to be a fictional character.
  • Cool Old Guy: As a Muppet, he never really ages, but he was created in 1955 and still entertains audiences to this day.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Has claimed to be on the Oscars stage. Which he was, a few times.
    • His clue package features an appearance by the Eagle. This references Sam the Eagle, a patriotic Muppet who often butts heads with Kermit.
    • There was a UFO at one point. This is a reference to Muppets In Space.
    • Snail is shown on a stage and on a talk show. These, of course, allude to The Muppet Show and The Muppets (2015). The latter setting in particular also references his 1979 stint as a guest host for The Tonight Show.
    • Another clue is a teddy bear. Of course, this alludes to Kermit's co-star, the comedian Fozzie Bear.
    • Snail gets Swedish meatballs tossed at him. This references the Swedish Chef, who used meatballs in one of his segments.
    • Finally, we see a treasure chest. This references Muppet Treasure Island.
    • His backup dancers have rose heads. He was a grand marshal for the Tournament of Roses Parade in 1996.
    • His background also has a rainbow motif. This, of course, alludes to Kermit's signature song, The Rainbow Connection.
    • As for his Cluedle-Doo clue, him being a National Treasure, his original puppet model is in the National Museum of American History in Washington DC. Also, according to the extended version of his reveal, Kermit himself relates it to his signature song, "Rainbow Connection," as the gold found at the end of the rainbow.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: After the unmasking, he observes that "I will never hear the end of this from Miss Piggy."

     Phoenix
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tms_us_s5_phoenix.jpg

Ranking: Group B: First-round elimination
Real Identity: Caitlyn Jenner
Song sung: "Tik Tok" by Kesha
Intro Song: "Fireball" by Pitbull ft. John Ryan

  • Ambiguous Gender: Their voice makes it hard to guess if they're male or female. In the end, she turns out to be a transgender woman.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Caitlyn is the first transgender contestant on the show.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Cluedle-Doo claims that they only have one speed: 76 mph. Caitlyn made her Olympic debut at the 1976 games in Montreal.
    • At one point, Phoenix is shown with six little Phoenixes. Caitlyn has had six kids with three wives.
    • The first clue has a crown in it. During the brief time she was a basketball player, Caitlyn was drafted to the Kansas City, now Sacramento, Kings.
    • The Phoenix costume as a whole could represent how, like a phoenix being reborn from the ashes, Caitlyn underwent a rebirth of her own when she transitioned genders.
  • The Phoenix: Obviously.

     Raccoon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tms_us_s5_raccoon.jpg

Ranking: Group A: Second-round elimination
Real Identity: Danny Trejo
Songs sung:
"Wild Thing" by The Troggs
"Ring of Fire" by Anita Carter (as covered by Johnny Cash)
Intro Song: "Macho Man" by The Village People

  • Composite Character: He can certainly be seen as one to White Tiger and Gremlin. Like White Tiger, he doesn't have the best vocals around, but makes up for it with goofy antics. And like Gremlin, he's an actor with a gravelly voice that has a unique unmasking (Gremlin prematurely unmasks himself, Raccoon tries to strip himself before his unmasking).
  • Cowboy: Raccoon has this as his primary motif, and "Ring of Fire" takes place in a western town.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Cluedle-Doo notes that Raccoon was always known for being sharp. Just like a Machete.
    • Raccoon's first clue package centers around him being in jail. Danny was arrested several times throughout the 60's.
    • His second clue package centered around boxing. Danny took up boxing for a time.
    • His self-portrait included some bats in it. In From Dusk Till Dawn, Trejo was vampire Razor Charlie. In From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money Trejo was vampire Razor Charlie's twin brother Razor Eddie. And on Young Justice, Trejo took up the voice of the Batman villain Bane.
    • There's a magnifying glass in one of his packages. He appeared in the Spy Kids movies.
    • A coffee grinder appears in his other package. He has a restaurant called Trejo's Coffee and Donuts.
  • Fun Personified: Similar to White Tiger, while he lacks in vocals, he clearly has the time of his life on the stage.
  • Furry Reminder: Dug through the prop trash can during his Walk-Out.
  • Harsh Vocals: Raccoon has a really rough, raspy voice.
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: Inverted. Raccoon is male, but he has eyelashes.

     Grandpa Monster
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tms_us_s5_grandpa_monster.jpg

Ranking: Group B: Second-round elimination
Real Identity: Logan Paul
Songs sung:
"Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit Of...)" by Perez Prado (as covered by Lou Bega)
"Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett
Intro Song: "Yakety Yak" by The Coasters

  • Cool Old Guy: He’s an older version of Season 1’s Monster, and he can bust out some energetic dance moves. Subverted however with the actual celebrity, as Logan Paul is among the youngest contestants in the history of the show.
  • Dartboard of Hate: He's seen with one that has an image of the Piglet on it.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • The number 6 is seen written on a chalkboard. Paul became famous posting 6 second videos on Vine.
    • His Cluedle-Doo clue states that he's trained for battle before, and a boxer dog is seen in his 2nd clue package. He's been known to box and was set to fight with Floyd Mayweather at the time of his unmasking.
    • His first clue package implied that he was a troublemaker in the past. Logan became rife with controversy a couple of times, such as willingly going into a Japanese forest known for its suicide rates and actually showing the corpse of someone who had hung themselves, resulting in his account being suspended for a few days.
    • His childhood idol is Dwayne Johnson. He had a Deleted Role in Dwayne's movie Baywatch2017.
  • Games of the Elderly: "Mambo No. 5" takes place at a bingo game.
  • Irony: The celebrity behind Grandpa Monster is the youngest celebrity to wear a Monster-type mask on the show.
  • Our Monsters Are Different: More in line with Monster and Miss Monster instead of Thingamajig, Whatchamacallit and Squiggly Monster, but still a monster nonetheless.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: "Bad Reputation" ends with the entire background being destroyed in an explosion, and he throws a stick of dynamite halfway through. Not to mention you have a pair of dancers with detonation plungers for heads.
  • Vocal Dissonance: For an old man, he has a youthful voice.

     Bulldog
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tms_us_s5_bulldog_3.jpg

Ranking: Group B: Third-round elimination
Real Identity: Nick Cannon
Song sung: "Candy Girl" by New Edition
Intro Song: "Hound Dog" by Big Mama Thornton (as covered by Elvis Presley & The Jordanaires)

  • Breaking Old Trends: Bulldog is actually a member of the production staff itself AND the first contestant to be eliminated by the host themselves.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Many of the props (as well as the background) during Bulldog's sole performance had the Masked Singer logo on them. This is a no-brainer to Nick's role as the show's host.
    • Tracksuits like the ones on Bulldog and his backup dancers are also commonly seen in Nick Cannon's Wild 'n Out.
    • His possession clue was the words, "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night". Nick may never have appeared on SNL, but he did host a radio program on New York's 92.3 station.
    • The Bulldog costume itself relates to the production company behind The Masked Singer, Smart Dog Media, tying to back to how integral Nick is with the show.
  • He's Back!: This is Nick's way of re-entering the show after his COVID-19 diagnosis.
  • Wild Card: The third wildcard of Season 5 introduced in the third round of Group B, and the first one unmasked.

     Orca
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tms_us_s5_orca.jpg

Ranking: Group A: Third-round eliminated
Real Identity: Mark McGrath
Songs sung:
"We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister
"Every Rose Has Its Thorn" by Poison
Intro Song: "72 Virgins" by Two Steps From Hell

  • Breaking Old Trends: He's the first wildcard contestant to appear on the show. Sadly he's also the first one booted with the arrival of the last wild card.
  • The Cameo: He pops up in season 6 when Mallard is singing his own hit tune, "Fly".
  • Foreshadowing:
    • In his first clue package, a clock is seen tuning its hands to 2:59, or in military time 14:59, also the name of one of Sugar Ray's albums.
    • His self-portrait clue has a hawk taking flight on it. This refers to both Sugar Ray's Signature Song "Fly" and the fact that he is frequently mistaken for Ethan Hawke.
    • His T-Shirt clue read, "Purrr". That's three Rs for his times as champion on Rock and Roll Jeopardy.
  • If It Swims, It Flies: His first performance starts with him being lowered from the ceiling to the stage, likely inspired by this trope.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: He mentions in one of his clue packages that he was always close to his late father, whom he always strove to make proud.
  • Wild Card: The very first wildcard contestant on the show, introduced during Group A's second round, and the second to be eliminated.

     Crab
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tms_us_s5_crab_7.jpg

Ranking: Super 8 Double-elimination
Real Identity: Bobby Brown
Songs sung:
"Ain’t No Sunshine" by Bill Withers
"Give It To Me Baby" by Rick James
"In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins
Intro Song: "Jump In The Line (Shake, Senora)" by Harry Belafonte

  • Claustrophobia: He reveals in one of his clue packages that he's claustrophobic, which was part of why he suddenly needed to get out of his mask; they're very constrictive.
  • Giant Enemy Crab: Well, he's not that big, but he’s still the size of a human.
  • Getting Hot in Here: Like Gremlin of Season 4, he ends up not being able to breathe and feels suffocated by his costume. Luckily, the crew helps him get offstage, where he could remove his mask in private for a few minutes until he felt okay, and he was able to return to the stage afterwards. Notably, while the Gremlin's instance of wanting his mask off was Played for Laughs, the Crab's was not, and the panel was genuinely worried about him.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • His first clue package centers around him mentioning a tragedy in life. Bobby lost his wife, Whitney Houston, his daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, and son Bobby Jr.
    • Several of his clue packages contain double worded phrases starting with "BB". This hints at his initials Bobby Brown.
    • His childhood crush was Janet Jackson. They dated at one point.
    • His possession clue is a bowler hat. Bobby was shown wearing one.
    • His ordered food is marshmallows. Bobby’s music appeared on the soundtrack of the sequel of Ghostbusters, which had the famous Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man as an enemy.
  • Wild Card: The second wildcard of Season 5, introduced during Group B's second batch of performances, and the third to be eliminated.

     Seashell
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tms_us_s5_seashell.jpg

Ranking: Super 8 Double-elimination
Real Identity: Tamera Mowry-Housley
Songs sung:
"Listen To Your Heart" by Roxette
"Confident" by Demi Lovato
"Tell Me Something Good" by Rufus feat. Chaka Khan
"I Think We're Alone Now" by Tommy James and the Shondells (as covered by Tiffany)
Intro Song: "California Girls" by The Beach Boys

  • Foreshadowing:
    • Cluedle-Doo's clue for her was: "No two shells are the same." Tamera has a twin sister named Tia.
    • Her first clue package has a chameleon in it. She and her sister appeared in an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark? called "The Tale of the Chameleons".
    • The same clue package also has a bratwurst, a specialty of Germany, where she was born.
    • Her portrait clue had a cook's bowl in it. For a time, Tamera hosted a cooking show.
    • Though Cluedle-Doo was able to steal her food clue, he did show it to the audience- it was grapes. Tamera has a large vineyard at her estate.
    • Her last clue package had a news theme with a lower third that said "Twister, Twister, Shellacking Shore". "Twister, Twister" rhymes with Sister, Sister, the name of the show she and her sister starred in.
      • Her t-shirt clue read "Motown." Sister Sister takes place in Detroit.
  • Pink Means Feminine: She has a predominantly pink color scheme and is very demure.
  • Showgirl Skirt: Wore one for a good portion of her performances.

     Robopine
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tms_us_s5_robopine.jpg

Ranking: 6th Place
Real Identity: Tyrese Gibson
Songs sung:
"Never Too Much" by Luther Vandross
"All of Me" by John Legend
"Killing Me Softly With His Song" by Lori Lieberman (as covered by Roberta Flack)
"Let's Get It On" by Marvin Gaye
"Water Runs Dry" by Boyz II Men
Intro Song: "U Can't Touch This" by MC Hammer

  • Breaking Old Trends: The first singer to cover a song sung by a previous contestant (in his case, "All of Me", which was preformed first by Peacock back in season one).
  • Cool Old Guy: He claims to be 60, but the ladies have a hard time buying that (his soulful crooner voice hints at someone 30 to 40 at maximum). If he is that old, he's incredibly spry for his age. He's eventually revealed to be the 42-year-old Tyrese Gibson.
  • Cyborg: Has several mechanical parts, including their left eye. It’s in the new name he gave himself, after all.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • His portrait included a spider on it. Tyrese is scared of those.
    • His T-shirt clue read "AKA." This reference's Tyrese's album "Alter Ego".
    • His food clue was a lobster. Tyrese has gone on the record saying that he loves Red Lobster restaurants.
    • His mind reading clue was a lightbulb. This references Tyrese's song "2000 Watts".
    • His insistence on being called Robopine is a subtle one to his recurring role in the Transformers movies, but Nicole was wrong about one thing - he did not play a robot as Nicole claimed. He was in fact USAF Tech Sergeant Epps (the black soldier on the N.E.S.T team ).
    • Cluedle's entrance clue says Robopine is skilled at not becoming roadkill. Tyrese has worked on The Fast and the Furious in his spare time.
    • In one package, he mentions how he lost a very close friend in a tragic way, and the scene is punctuated by screeching tires. The friend in question was Paul Walker, who passed away in a car crash in 2013.
  • I Have Many Names: He was originally introduced as Porcupine, before he announced that he had changed his name to Robopine.
  • I Lied: While it's standard for contestants to twist the truth or leave out vital details, Robopine's claim to be in his 60s was a flat-out lie to throw people off.

     Russian Dolls
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tms_us_s5_russian_dolls.jpg

Ranking: 5th Place
Real Identities: Hanson (Taylor, Isaac, & Zac Hanson)
Songs sung:
"Man In The Mirror" by Michael Jackson
"Wonder" by Shawn Mendes
"Want To Want Me" by Jason Derulo
"24K Magic" by Bruno Mars
"Shallow" by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga
"I’m Still Standing" by Elton John
Intro Song: “Kalinka” by Ivan Larionov

  • Animate Inanimate Object: A group of singing matryoshka, or Russian nesting dolls.
  • Award-Bait Song: They're certainly capable of these, with "Man in the Mirror" and "Shallow" being their strongest performances.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Unlike the Snow Owls, who performed as a duo, the Russian Dolls are a group of contestants competing under the same costume. There are four dolls total - a large one with a moving mouth and three smaller ones with arms and legs. Despite there being four Russian Dolls, there are actually three celebrities behind this costume, with the fourth doll made to throw people off. Indeed, clever viewers will note that when all four dolls are present, not all of them are "active" - performances consist of either the big doll and one small doll, or all three small dolls, with the big doll occasionally sitting in the back as a prop.
  • The Fashionista: They dress up in costumes for three of their numbers. One puts on Michael Jackson's trademark diamond glove for "Man in the Mirror", they dress in jewelry for "24K Magic", and they dress in Brit Pop outfits for "I'm Still Standing".
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Cluedle says they have 15 replicas. Zac, Isaac, and Taylor all together have 15 children.
    • Their self portrait had lots of bursting colors. The Hansons have participated in other pop genres.
    • The t-shirt fired from the "Nick Cannon" after their third performance said "what goes around comes around". Hanson's first album is titled Boomerang.
    • Their food clue was red jelly beans. That's the name of their New York based fan club.
    • Their mind reading clue was a kangaroo. They posed with one on social media.
    • Their Super Celebrity in the quarterfinals was "Weird Al" Yankovic. Weird Al lampooned Hanson with one of his songs, and Weird Al himself made an appearance in one of Hanson's music videos as well.
    • Any time the panelists are torn over whether they're male or female, since Hanson famously went through that back in the day.
    • While Cluedle was lying about them having a fourth member, the Hansons do have a brother named Mackenzie who has toured with them on occasion.
  • Matryoshka Object: As commented in the promo for the season: "They multiplied!? Could there be more?"
  • Red Herring: Although there are four dolls, there’s only three celebrities. Cluedle was lying about them having a fourth member.
  • Toy Time: In addition to being toys themselves, the backdrop during their performance of "Want To Want Me" is filled with toys.
  • Troll: Lampshaded during their fourth clue package.
"We love that you have no idea how many we are, what genders we are, and tonight, we set the table to toy with you even more!”
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Of a sort, after all Russian Dolls are usually feminine looking and they did call themselves "babushka" (Russian for grandma) in a clue package, yet underneath are three male singers.

     Yeti
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tms_us_s5_yeti.jpg

Ranking: 4th Place

"It Takes Two" by Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock
"Bless the Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts
"Celebration" by Kool And The Gang
Intro Song: "Cold as Ice" by M.O.P.

  • Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: Just Yeti - his arrival is even heralded by snowy arctic winds.
  • An Ice Person: While normal yetis are typically mammals, this Yeti has rock-like skin and icicles growing out of him. In his second performance he's even rollerblading across the stage, looking like he's ice skating.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • His T-shirt clue read "Aphrodite". One of his songs is called "Goddess".
    • His food clue was donuts. As Nicole correctly guesses, they represent the first letter of his name, O.
    • His mind reading clue was an ear of corn. Omarion once appeared in a commercial for Pops, a cereal made from corn.
    • His clue drop was a surfboard with Santa Monica on it. Omarion once posted a media image at Santa Monica’s famous pier.
    • His Super Fan clue was P Diddy. He and B2K worked on the song "Bump, Bump, Bump".
  • Top-Heavy Guy: In order to let him utilize his slick dance moves, he has narrower legs compared to his arms, and he dances in regular shoes that make his feet look even smaller.
  • Wild Card: The final wildcard introduced in Season 5, introduced during Group A’s third round, and the final one to be eliminated.

     Chameleon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tms_us_s5_chameleon.jpg

  • Everything's Better with Sparkles: As his picture clearly shows, his costume is very glittery.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Cluedle-Doo revealed in Chameleon's debut episode that he has a history with precious gemstones. Wiz was married to Amber Rose, who shares her name with a type of gemstone. His song "See You Again" was also certified diamond.
    • His childhood clue was Salma Slims. Wiz worked with her on a song called "Same Thing".
    • His prized clue is chicken wings. Wiz owns a hot wings chain called Hotbox.
      • The same answer also applies to his food clue, a ready to eat meal.
    • His mind reading clue was a shoe. Wiz has a website where you can by personalized sneakers.
    • His Super Fan was Jackie Chan. Wiz worked on a song with that name.
    • His airdrop clue was a snake. Wiz has worked with an artist named DJ Snake.
    • Cluedle said that he was at the Golden Globes once. That would be the 73rd awards, where "See You Again" was nominated for Best Original Song.
    • His semifinal performance was by an artist named Cam'ron. Wiz's real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz.
  • Fortune Teller: The main aesthetic of his performance of "21 Questions".
  • Graceful Loser: He didn't mind losing, simply talking about how much fun he had in the end.
  • Lizard Folk: A chameleon, to be precise.
  • Making a Spectacle of Yourself: Has star shaped glasses on his eyes.
  • Motor Mouth: As this season's hip-hop specialist, his rap flow easily matches those of past greats like Frog or Fox.
  • Overly-Long Tongue: As expected from a chameleon.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tms_us_s5_black_swan.jpg

"Tequila" by Dan + Shay
"How Am I Supposed To Live Without You" by Laura Branigan (as covered by Michael Bolton)
Intro Song: "Bad Girls" by Donna Summer

  • Dark Is Not Evil: Her color scheme is predominantly black, befitting her name, but she's very sweet.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Cluedle-Doo's clue for her indicated that she covered a monster. JoJo once covered one of T-Pain's songs, "Can't Believe It".
    • Her crush is D'Angelo. She was interviewed about him once.
    • Her item clue is a unicorn. This references her friend Leah LaBelle.
    • Her food clue was Goldfish crackers. She has her own cheesy snack line.
      • The fish crackers, as well as a fish tank, are both a hint to her role in Aquamarine.
    • Her mind clue is Mariah Carey. One of her songs ousted Mariah's song "Loverboy" on the charts.
    • Her Super Fan was Cher. She worked with her on a tour for Kids Say The Darnedest Things.

    • Leaves are featured in amongst some of her packages. A reference to her breakout song "Leave (Get Out)".
    • The state of Montana is seen on a parachute bag. She was considered for the titular role in Hannah Montana but declined to focus on music.

    • Chess was big motif in her first clue package. Her last name Levesque means bishop in French.
    • Mentions in the finale package that she was known around the world before she got her driver's license. Jojo got her big break with "Leave (Get Out)" when she was 13 years old.

"Bruises" by Lewis Capaldi
"Faithfully" by Journey
Intro Song: "Yummy" by Justin Bieber

  • Breaking Old Trends: He’s the first boy bander to win on the show.
  • The Casanova: His first clue package and song paint him as this.
  • The Cutie: He looks really adorable.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Cluedle-Doo's clue for him was: Piglet knows to stay cool, even in heat. Especially if the temperature's at 98°.
    • His crush clue was Meg Ryan. Nick name dropped her in an interview.

    • His food clue was cotton candy. Before he was a performer, Nick worked at King's Island in Cincinnati.
    • His Super Fan was Bruce Willis. This is a legitimate clue, as Nick actually idolizes him.
    • His airdrop clue was a poker chip. At one point, he took part in a charity poker game.
    • A suit of armor appears in one package. A homophone reference (as in "knight") to 98°'s song "Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)".
    • One of his songs he performs on the show is "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder. 98° and Stevie Wonder collaborated on "True to Your Heart" for the soundtrack of Disney's Mulan.
    • A llama is featured in one of his clue packages. Since Drew Carey was on the show as the Llama, this is a reference to Nick's brother, also named Drew.
  • Hidden Depths: He sings opera at one point.
  • Shaking the Rump: The Piglet likes to twerk onstage every now and then.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: While visually a different creature, his well-practiced vocals allow him to run the gamut of genres, from ballad to rock, and that makes him one for the Rottweiler.

Season 6

     Octopus
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/snip_it_1632511287358.jpg

Ranking: Group A: First-round elimination
Real Identity: Dwight Howard
Song sung: "Tutti Frutti" by Little Richard
Intro Song: "Le Freak" by Chic

  • Foreshadowing:
    • His clue in the Sneak Peek was a photo of a cookie being dunked in milk. Being a basketball player, he should know a thing or two about dunking.
    • There’s a golden phone in his package. Like all championship players, Dwight got a championship ring when he won with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.
    • Claims that eight is his lucky number. It seems to be - among other things, his birthday is December 8, he's an eight-time NBA All-Star, and was part of the gold-medal team at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, which started on 08/08/08.
  • Funny Octopus: Delivers a fun and lighthearted performance with a permanent grin on the mask. Plays up quite the character when interviewed as well.
  • Gentle Giant: VERY tall, and means no harm.

  • Fake American: He managed to hide his natural Australian accent flawlessly, to the point where the judges were genuinely shocked when he spoke after being unmasked.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • His preview clue was a picture of Dwayne Johnson. Jordan, like him, is Samoan.
    • The Bulldog shows up at one point. Jordan played for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.

Team: Bad
Songs sung:
"Hey Soul Sister" by Train
"Sharp Dressed Man" by ZZ Top
"Two Princes" by Spin Doctors (Duel)
Intro Song: "Smoke On The Water" by Deep Purple

  • Breaking Old Trends: Hydra is the first group costume to not consist of people who are either married or part of a family.
  • Foreshadowing
    • Their Mega Clue was a deck of cards. As magicians, the two are very used to using them.
    • An ATM can be seen in one of their clue packages. Another word for an ATM is a "teller", hinting at the last name of one half of the duo.

  • Finishing Each Other's Sentences: During performances, the heads switch off between phrases. The encore performance reveals that this involved a Solo Duet from Teller.

  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: As shown when they first appear on stage, all three heads have glowing eyes.
  • Large Ham: After the heads come off, Penn, ever the showman, shouts something that can’t be translated before proclaiming, "We are Penn and Teller!"
  • Multiple Head Case: As you'd expect from a Hydra.
  • Our Hydras Are Different: As well as three heads, this Hydra also has three legs.
  • Red Herring: There are only two people under this costume. When they unmask the middle head, Teller lifts a puppet of a rabbit in a hat through it.
  • Suddenly Speaking: Teller is known for not speaking during the duo's acts, but does so freely here — indeed, he speaks twice as much as Penn, as the misdirect that there are three people in the Hydra suit led him to portray two of them. Even after being unmasked, he speaks openly, though he holds a fan over his mouth so no one sees him do it.

Team: Bad
Song sung: "Bad To The Bone" by George Thorogood and The Destroyers
Intro Song: "Pop Goes The Weasel" as covered by Universal Production Music

  • Anti-Climax: He's the most mysterious character in the season, never seen outside of his box, and sang his performance before his clue package, making his apperance completely hidden until the last moment. Despite all the buildup, Jack-In-The-Box's apperance was woefuly dull, talking through his performance, was eliminated after his first and only performance, and turned out to be a politician, far removed from the world of entertainment.
  • Breaking Old Trends: He technically doesn’t have an intro song, as he goes straight to his only performance. We're listing the version of "Pop Goes The Weasel" that plays as the knob is cranked as it by default.
    • Speaking of which, he is the very first contestant to have a performance come before his clue package.

    • The gavel is a dead giveaway to his career as a lawyer.
    • His Clue-mercial has him advertising a wedding service. As former mayor of New York City, Rudy has officiated dozens of weddings.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: News media leaked his true identity and judges' reactions several weeks before his unmasking.
  • Living Toys: A sentient jack-in-the-box.
  • Scary Jack-in-the-Box: He looks creepy, and is a member of the Bad costumes to boot.
  • Unperson: Of all the singers, he’s the only one who doesn’t have his unmasking viewable on the show's YouTube channel, nor is his interview, clue package, or performance available. He is also completely left out of the Road to the Finals episode. The press leak and who the secret identity is were very controversial.

  • Last of Their Kind: The sole remaining team Bad member by the time of the finals of Group C, as well as the last non-team Good member in the competition.
