Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:

openSomething needs to be done about stock phrases
So a while back, I suggested we rename some Stock Phrases so they're no longer stock phrases (like renaming I Can't Feel My Legs! to something like Numbness Spells Trouble since the trope is basically losing feeling in the legs leads to serious injury).
Yesterday, I was looking at the Stock Phrases page and noticed some aren't even that dialoguey, so why are they there? For example, Asleep for Days and Does Not Like Men don't sound stock phrase-y to me.
resolved YMMV Home Page
Do Darth Wiki and Sugar Wiki entries go on YMMV.Home Page? I found one Darth Wiki entry (Most Annoying Sound) and seven Sugar Wiki entries (Awesome Music, Funny Moments, Heartwarming Moments, Moment of Awesome, Most Wonderful Sound, So Cool, It's Awesome, and Visual Effects of Awesome) on that page. Are these valid uses?
open Awesome Music on YMMV
A few weeks ago someone deleted the Awesome Music entries on Joker (2019), claiming it was site policy. Is there any truth to that or were the entries deleted improperly?
openTwo works under same title Live Action TV
I was wondering how to handle the following two: The Hexer and The Witcher (2019). Originally, when navigating through the Witcher sub-pages, clicking on Series navigated to Hexer. Then it got booted out and replaced with the Netflix series.
Can both get booted from under the Series/TheWitcher page? Instead putting there a distinction in tune of following:
The Witcher TV series may refer to:
- The Hexer, made in its native Poland in 2001
- The Witcher (2019), made by Netflix in 2019
Yes, I know the one is under Hexer title internationally, but it's still the same franchise and basically the exact same deal, just different actors (and production budget).
openStarcraft 2 Ending
This was meant to be on the StarCraft page, accidentally on the StarCraft page but subject to an edit war there so holding off on just moving it over.
- Happy Ending Override: Starcraft II ended with peace between the three races, all of whom are now ruled by (mostly) benevolent leaders who get along. Materials set afterward have established Valerian is still dealing with a lot of opposition to the Dominion, including the Umojan Protectorate and the Kel-Morian Combine, there are still feral Zerg on numerous worlds that people are afraid of (and the broodmother Niadra is determined to war with the Protoss), and the Tal'darim are still out there and don't think much of stomping out any Zerg or Terrans in their way. Even just limiting it to the Dominion, the Swarm, and the Daelaam, there are tensions between them and not everyone under their banner likes the idea of making peace with the others. While the Koprulu Sector is far more peaceful now than it has been in many years, the wars have not ended, just downsized a little.
Given reason for removal was:
"The happy ending of Starcraft 2 is not undone - Amon is still dead, The Hybrid are vanquished, life is still spreading across the Korprulu Sector, Valerian is still in charge of the dominion and working on leading into a prosperous future, the Daelaam as a whole are still united and more egalitarian than ever, and Raynor still hasn't been seen since he Earned His Happy Ending.
In short: the supplemental material do not override the happy ending of Starcraft 2, which is a fairly critical aspect of the Happy Ending Override."
The ending of Starcraft 2 actually says that under Valerian and Matt Horner, "the Dominion enters an age of prosperity and peace", which is undone by subsequent expanded universe material — Valerian's rule is not secure due to Terran opposition both within and outside the Dominion, the Terrans still live in fear of Zerg and Protoss attacks, and the three races have a truce but a very uneasy one.
Can others weigh in on if they think the trope is being used properly?
Edited by DrakeClawfangopenIs there an Adaptational badass cleanup forum?
I'm reading the examples in Anime & Manga and I'm noticing A LOT of Dragon Ball examples that don't fit this trope (they are Adaptational Expansion, but very superfluous examples for the badass category)
However, I need some guidance to fix it as I'm sure I may be confusing something about it and don't want to start an Edit War.
Edited by TomodachiopenNote mark up covered with spoiler
I think it should be forbidden since it's impossible to show it, clicking on "Note" simply cover text again.
Try it yourself, the first entry on Glass2019 has note markup in the middle of spoiler.
But Handling Spoilers say nothing about this issue.
Edited by KuruniopenBribing Your Way to Victory - Subversions Videogame
The recent edit for Love Live! School Idol Festival ALL STARS has the following edit under Bribing Your Way to Victory:
Subverted in using Skip Ticket, as long as you finished S rank in any difficulty of a song, you may spend any amount of Skip Ticket and the corrsponding amount of LP to finish the song instantly (without actually playing it) for same difficulty, despite no extra treasure box (and some progress that mentioned "except lives with Skip Ticket") will be given, they are equivent to finishing S Grade with chosen team(even with teams impossible to achieve it) as many times as you use the Skip Ticket, allowing quick progess of event/upgrades.
Does this count as a subversion? As far as I know, this trope is basically paying for advantages in games using real life money. Subverting this means you still pay something using real life money but for something that could be worthless or underwhelming in game.
The main thing is that Skip Tickets are free in-game, being rewarded to players for completing goals. As far as I know, you cannot get any more of them by paying real money.
Edited by lenne18openAnime/NeonGenesisEvangelion folders Anime
Was reading the Neon Genesis Evangelion page and I just wanted to double-check if it's actually okay to divide tropes into folders under different story elements like they did here (setting, characters, narrative, themes, meta) or if this is discouraged? I find it confusing but it seems to have been set up like that for a while, so I can't tell if people officially agreed to it in the past or if someone just randomly organised it that way and never got corrected.
openClarification
I want to rewrite some of the Comicbook entries in What Could Have Been; specifically, everything regarding Marvel 2099. However, one of the comics in this line up is in the Spider-Man folder, while the rest are in "various". Should I move the Spider-Man 2099 example with the rest or leave it where it is?
openTroper unilaterally adding tropes to NRLEP
nendroid has added tropes to No Real Life Examples, Please! without discussion a few times, even though there is a warning on that page not to add or remove items arbitrarily. This has happened here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. note Ignore the parts where he moved tropes that were already on the list.
I have removed arbitrary additions with the edit reason saying not to add items without discussion, but he doesn't seem to get that.
By the way, does this fall under "Disregarding moderator instructions or article comments" in What to Do If You Are Suspended?
And sorry about the links not leading to the edits. There seems to be a problem when linking edits from a long time ago in the history. But all the edits except the first one happened on August 14, 2019.
Edited by FridgeGuy2016openZCE Edit War
Love 777 did an Zero-Context Example in Characters.Persona Q 2 New Cinema Labyrinth regarding Contrasting Sequel Main Character that I commented out and sent them a PM about using the message list, but they just removed the commenting out anyway without actually changing anything so I decided I'd take it here instead of engaging in an edit war.
Edited by rmctagg09openTV Tropes Term for Pages Everyone Links To? Web Original
I haven't been here in a while, but I remember there was a term for when tropers would create links to certain pages everywhere for sake of a meme/in-joke. Ex: probably 50% of the pages on this site contain some kind of link to Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking. Shoe-horning some kind of joke along those lines was very popular, and I remember Exactly What It Says on The Tin was somewhat like that too, but to a much lesser extent.
openUnfamiliar namespaces
Creatures.Dungeons And Dragons
Mechanics.Dungeons And Dragons
These have trope subpages using atypical namespaces. What's the reason behind the split like this?
Edited by TabsopenQuick question: Muggle With a Degree in Magic
Can Muggle with a Degree in Magic count Depowered mages/superhumans?
openNo Title
The last paragraph in the description of Nothing's Fair in Fifth Grade is too review-y. It seems like a shame to just cut it, though. I don't suppose it could be moved to the reviews section somehow?
openCharacters with multiple profiles
What are the rules for characters who have multiple character profiles across different works set in the same timeline?
For example, Saber has three pages for her main timeline self: for the main visual novel, the direct sequel Fate/hollow ataraxia, and Fate/Zero, which takes place ten years before the VN.
On the other hand, Zero from Mega Man has two profiles: one for his appearance in Mega Man X, and one for Mega Man Zero, which takes place centuries after the X series.

Hello. I have a quick question: if there's trivia in the recap pages, should it be moved to a separate trivia page?
