This thread is for tropers who have trouble with English and would like some help with the crazy grammar of this crazy language.

Write down what you wish to edit on the wiki. If you have been suspended from editing, another troper might be kind enough to edit for you after your suggestions have been corrected.

The thread is for help and feedback on your own suggested edits.

If you want help correcting other people's edits (e.g., if you find a page which seems to have grammar problems but want a second opinion, or you don't feel able to fix it by yourself) then that's off-topic here, but we have a separate Grammar Police cleanup thread that can provide assistance.

Monster Clown

Western Animation

The Mask: It’s implied that the previous wearers of the Mask of Loki were bad people. Stanley and Evelyn are good people, so The Mask and Eve are good people as well. It’s played straight with Masked Chet Bozzack, and downplayed with Masked Dr Neuman who is a supervillain, but is Affably Evil.

I assume that I can get help here, even if English is my first language? Because I'm not sure if this example I wrote is gramatically-correct or not. Should the part after the first comma use "is" or "are"?

  • This Loser Is You: Su and Jack are meant to be somewhat mocking of the target audience, being a millennial couple who is addicted to technology and is awkwardly unskilled when it comes to doing many things that don’t involve technology, such as chopping wood.

Villainous Love

  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Tenko becomes extremely jealous of Ochaco due to her close friendship with Izuku. It reaches a point where he wants to kill Ochaco for "stealing" Izuku from him.
  • Entitled to Have You: He actually believes that Izuku belongs only to him, to the point where he thinks their relationship is the only thing she needs.

(Saying that it's "now" to the point that he wants to kill Ochaco is wrong, since there's no specific "now" in the story. The beginning is "now" when you read the beginning, and the final chapter is "now" when you read it.)

For Live Action Films:

  • Tom Holland gets shipped a lot with his MCU actors, with most of this coming from his Spider-Man films due to his close friendships with his co-stars there. Spider-Man: Homecoming fans who shipped Peter with the MJ started to ship Tom with Zendaya, due to their on-screen chemistry. During the lead-up to Spider-Man: Far From Home, a vocal portion of the fanbase started to ship Tom with Jake Gyllenhaal, despite their almost twenty-year age difference. This was mostly due to the two loving to joke about their friendship, such as describing their first meeting as something out of Titanic (1997), or Tom joking that they were already married during the premiere. That is not even getting into the small, but dedicated group Starker shippers who ship him with Robert Downey Jr..

Any corrections?

Nightmare Fuel/Fallout

  • Unlike later entries which condensed a lot of the world to fit in a 3d environment, the first two Fallout games make it clear the Valut Dweller/Chosen One are travelling across almost the entirety of what was once California and since we don't see it as anything but a line on a map, we're left with our "imagination", Oo solitarily walking on foot, for days at a time, across radiation blasted desert, traitorous terrain, and ruined buildings. With naught but the wind at your back, the mission, and the sight of distant settlements that at best, might be safe, to keep you going. With the ever present knowledge you may accidentally stumble across something deadly, or worse; Something stubbling across you.

Magnificent Bastard

  • The Librarians 2014: Professor James Moriarty is a fictional character brought to life by Propsero to act as his right-hand man. A charismatic, dapper gentleman who knows how to manipulate things to his advantage, Moriarty is instrumental in setting up Prospero's powers returning to him and helps him foil the heroes at various times. Moriarty can fake a truce to subtly influence the heroes into giving him the Staff of Zarathusa to superempower his master or analyze and discover the weaknesses of his foes thorough his Sherlock Scan. Eventually ditching Prospero due to his love for Eve, Moriarty helps to bring about Prospero's ultimate downfall by manipulating him into letting his guard down and dies protecting Eve with his final words being a method to destroy his master for good.

  • Guild Hunter: Venom, real name Tushar is a suave, cultured vampire and one of the archangel Raphael's Seven. Venom acts as Raphael's enforcer of justice in New York being able to intimidate and manipulate vampire gangs into doing what he says and having even angels fear his power. With the power of his hypnotic eyes, Venom is able to discover the truth from people and uses it to acquire and help in investigations. A highly ruthless man, Venom will torture and intimidate even fairly hapless individuals into giving him info he uses to help keep the city safe. Venom stands as one of the most ruthless and charismatic vampire of the series.

@ American Dragon: Jake Long

  • Jake uses his dragon fire to melt a snow sculpture into looking like Rose (who is appropriately touched).
@ American Dragon: Jake Long - Friends and Allies
  • Dreaming of Things to Come: Sara gets horrifying visions of the future even while she's asleep.
  • Story-Breaker Power: A likely reason Kara and Sara only appear sparingly is that their visions make it easy for them to uncover and thwart villains' plans (as demonstrated in "The Academy").
@ 100 Bullets
  • Face Death with Dignity: As Remi corners Joan near a bathroom, she is frightened but is resigned to what's coming and doesn't want to die cowering on a toilet. Unusually for this trope, she survives when her last bodyguard sacrifices himself to set off an explosion which maims Remi.
X2: X-Men United
  • One-Scene Wonder: Kitty only has about a minute of screentime, but the scene where she uses her intangibility to escape from Stryker's men is magnificent to watch.

Snowpiercer (2020): Big Alice

  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: Despite his menacing appearance, Icy Bob shows a gentler side when he finds out Josie is a spy and keeps her secret while showing some sympathy for her.
     Oiler Bob
Played By: Leon Ababio

  • Mr. Fixit: An oiler is in charge of maintaining machinery, implying that Oiler Bob handles this role abroad Big Alice.
  • One-Steve Limit: He has the same name as Icy Bob and their crewmates sometimes mix the two up, even though Icy Bob is a One-Man Army and Oiler Bob is implied to be a Non-Action Guy.
@ Streets of Fire
  • Signature Scene: Ellen's stirring recital of "Nowhere Fast,", as the crowd euphorically claps along, oblivious to the ominous arrival of the bikers.
@ Secret Santa (2007)
  • Girl Posse: Each book features a beautiful but insufferable Alpha Bitch with a couple of more likable sidekicks. Typically, the posse breaks up near the end of the book when the sidekicks assert themselves (due to Character Development in the first two books and Backstabbing the Alpha Bitch for her boyfriend in book 3), leaving a vacuum open for a new girl posse to show up in the next book.
@ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003 S 1 E 9 Garbageman
  • Chain-Link Fence: Two men in the Professor's group escape from the Garbageman by scaling a chain-link fence, while a third is grabbed after climbing halfway up.
  • Dramatic Shattering: As the Garbageman abducts two homeless men in The Teaser, there's a closeup of the bottle they had painstakingly salvaged from a trash can falling to the ground and shattering.
  • Gas Mask Mooks: The thugs at the Garbageman's landfill wear yellow gas masks and carry cattle prods.
@ Rock N Rolla
  • Catharsis Factor: Lenny is such a cold-hearted, self-important sadist that seeing him get kneecapped over a theft he didn't commit and left to crawl across the golf course feels fairly karmic. And then there's the later scene where his own men drown him after finding out he's been selling them out to the cops.
  • Moment of Awesome: A wounded Johnny methodically telling Mickey and Roman how they're being taken to their execution (with flash-forwards), unsettling their guards/executioners enough for Mickey and Roman to get the drop on them, with Johnny then telling them how to take out the guards waiting at the bottom of the elevator.
  • Rooting for the Empire: Ruthless gangster or not, it's not hard to root for Uri a little as the Wild Bunch repeatedly robs him. His desire to break into legitimate businesses, the coolness of his Made of Iron enforcers, and how he deals with Lenny and Stella in good faith all make him somewhat likable, especially in comparison to Lenny.

Grow

  • Oddball in the Series: Most games have their own unique schticks that make them unique, but a few examples stand out.
    • Grow Ver.1 has a different gameplay where instead of having a bunch of objects that you need to place in a certain order, you need to chose one item out of two to interact with an item that's already on the screen (sometime you only have one item to choose), then you are given an other choice with differents items and this goes on until you reach the end of the path you were going to.
    • Grow nano vol 0-1 also have a different gameplay where the player simply must click on some parts of a structure to make it evolve.
    • Grow Cannon also has a different gameplay where instead of directly placing objects, the player must use a canon to fire in different spots and interact with the scenery.
    • Grow Clay is visually unique as it uses clay animation instead of 2D digital animation like every other games.

Telepath RPG

  • Unwinnable by Mistake: There is a way to get softlocked during the Lake alto battles, you are on a tiny boat surrounded by water so non-flying units can't move much so you are encouraged to bring some flying units even if you are not obliged to do so. If you don't bring flying units with you then all you can do is wait for the spriggats to come for you, the problem is that there is always a healer among the spriggats enemies in these battle and if the healer is the only enemy left, it will just keep hiding in a corner in the map and non flying unit cannot reach it and kill it, meaning the player will be stuck and forced to refresh the page.

Knuckleheads

  • Enfant Terrible: Gabriel and Samuel really like to torment adults in general but they mostly enjoy making their neighbor's life a living hell.
  • Funny Afro: The first attempt at curing a zombie gives him a big ginger afro without turning him back to normal.
  • Generation Xerox: In The BBQ Flu, we see that Raoul's father is as much as a womanizer as his son. Played for Laughs when a baby born from Raoul and a Swizz woman is seen enjoying a porn mag despite being a infant.
  • Gratuitous English: In the original French dub, characters tends to include English words in their sentences.
  • Instant Sedation: In The Silicone Psycho, only a brief breath in a chloroform tissue is enough to knock people.
  • Little Green Men: The Zwizzs are generic green humanoid aliens with two antenaes.
  • Mars Needs Women: Gender-inverted, the Zwizzes need a man to impregnate women of their specie because space travelling somehow sterilized male Zwizzes.
