Debut: Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 1 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/main_sullivan.png
A high ranking demon who adopted Iruma. He is the principal of the demon school Babyls and a member of the Thirteen Crowns.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: In the very first episode/chapter, he proceeds to gleefully talk about his grandson to the students and faculty on the first day of school while showing off a poster of a picture of him with his grandson.
  • Arrow Catch: Because of his powerful senses, he notices Robin Balse' arrow message for him even when he is inside a building and the arrow is phasing through the walls to reach him.
  • Authority Sounds Deep: Whenever acting in his capacity as a Demon King Candidate and principal, he always uses his serious deep voice, deliberately invoking the image of a leader having a commanding tone.
  • Baritone of Strength: In the anime, he normally uses a high-pitched squeaky voice to higlight his goofy and laid-back normal image, but whenever he gets serious and showcases his power, he affects a deep, near-booming baritone to show he's not to be trifled with.
  • Beleaguered Assistant: Many years ago, he was this to the Demon King Delkira, with the Demon King's whimsical antics apparently giving him frequent headaches.
  • Benevolent Boss: He might be frustrating to deal with for Opera and the teachers at his school, but he will pay his dues to them when they have done a good job.
    • For Opera, in the anime after asking Opera to help him save face and prove to Iruma and his friends he is a "cool grandpa" he freely admits he owes Opera a favor. When Opera calls to collect in a few episodes, Sullivan happily does the favor.
    • For the teachers, after the success of the Harvest Festival, he covers the tab for the Teacher's Banquet, allowing them to buy whatever they want at the inn.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: A goofy, silly old man who wants nothing more than to dote on his adopted grandson. Also the most powerful demon around and fully capable of tearing someone a new asshole if he's sufficiently pissed off.
  • Big Damn Heroes: During the Battler Party Arc, Sullivan arrives in time to see Iruma launch the empowered-firework shell into the sky and notices that the debris has not burned up, so he freezes all of it with a single spell and moves it all to land outside of Bablys.
  • Big Good: He's the highest ranking Demon and closest to Demon King Candidate, and as such the one who's responsible for keeping peace in Babyls and the students.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: He has a very silly and embarrassing personality, but make no mistake, he's one of the most powerful demons in the underworld for a reason. Enough to be one of the three judges of the Thirteen Crowns.
  • Characterization Marches On: In the first chapter he casually mentions he would have eaten Iruma if he didn't agree to become Sullivan's grandson and has him read a spell where if he had said it wrong, it would have killed him. Both are signs of a lack of regard for Iruma's health and safety that would be very out of character for Sullivan in later chapters.
  • Cool Old Guy: Despite being a terrifying demon lord, Sullivan behaves just like your typical kindly old grandpa, if only a bit goofy and eccentric. If your name is Iruma, then he's a Really Cool Old Guy who showers you with lavish gifts and pampers you like a baby.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He seems like a goof and will spend days talking with colleagues on who has the cutest grandchildren, but when things get serious, he shows everybody that being a Demon King candidate and the person most expected to take the role isn't just because of his popularity.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: He finally fights another demon in chapter 262. He creates a magic shadow-creature which ensnares and easily thrashes Atori around before effortlessly holding him. After Atori pisses him off by hitting at his mysterious past, Sullivan nearly kills the demon without any effort, but halts when Amduscias arrives on the scene.
  • Death Glare: As silly as he acts, when pushed, he's capable of giving a glare so intimidating that Henri, Ameri's father, who is capable of striking fear in his daughter, was struck to the point he couldn't even move when Sullivan gave him a look. He's actually afraid of scaring Iruma for being serious even though he had a perfectly good reason to do so.
  • Declining Promotion: It is revealed he is not a Yod (Highest Rank) because he just doesn't want it. He also keeps refusing to become the Demon King despite the other two Greats supporting the idea.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: After Iruma won the Cannonball Execution and thanked Opera he was furious that he wasn't thanked for everything he did. It took him a second to realize he actually didn't do anything to help except get Opera to help him.
  • Famed In-Story: He is not only the demon school's principal, but also one of the three candidates for the next demon king.
  • Final Boss: Is supposed to serve this role if the Misfit Class don't seal him away in time for the Heartbreak Competition. They managed to prevent him from awakening, but the class still have to fight the teachers afterwards.
  • Good Parents: Despite his busy lifestyle, he proves to be a far better parental figure than Iruma's original parents are, showering him with affection, making sure he has the tools to survive demon school, and going through hell and high water to keep him safe.
  • It Amused Me: A good chunk of mischievous things he gets into could be explained because of this.
  • I Want Grandkids: Rare male example. Sullivan is extremely distraught as he is old, single, and childless, therefore not having anyone to sire him grandchildren. It's the reason why he decided to adopt Iruma in the first place.
  • Lima Syndrome: A weirdly positive and sympathetic example: he is technically guilty of buying a kid, but he did offer the captive genuine parental love.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: He is able to sense some magical events even at great distances. When he is being held by Demon Border Control, he senses Kiriwo's activation of his massive barrier spell at Babyls.
  • Mysterious Past: His relationship with Derkira is only hinted at with conversations to other older demons and his own flashbacks. There are hints that not everything went well between them which is shown in chapter 262 when Atori calls him a "cursed man" who would never become the Demon King. The manga then shows Sullivan clutching his face and has a blood-soaked back with Delkira over him with no more context. All that happens next is Sullivan is so pissed he nearly kills Atori but is stopped by Amduscias arrival.
  • Number Two: It is all but outright stated that Sullivan was Delkira's second in command/assistant, though at the time he wore a completely face covering veil.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Pissing him off is the last thing you'll ever do, and this happens when Atori tries to kidnap Iruma. And then he dug himself deeper by telling him Delkira would never accept him because he's a cursed man. It sets him off so badly, he nearly strangles the demon to death with a Death Glare on his face. He still holds on to his glare towards Sheeda when he needs information out of her when the latter willingly bows to him rather than escaping.
  • Papa Wolf: If his adoptive grandson is in danger, there is quite literally nothing in the demon world that could even hope to slow him down in his efforts to keep the boy safe.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: While he does occasionally pull some strings when showing favoritism for Iruma, for the most part, whenever he's shown acting in his position as both the principal of Babyls and a Demon King candidate, he maintains a strict yet fair approach towards everybody, with him often even avoiding favoritism towards Iruma if he believes letting Iruma learn through his own efforts without any hand-holding is the best choice. In fact, this attitude combined with his strength is why a large majority of demons, including his fellow King candidates, see him as most worthy of becoming the next Demon King.
  • Replacement Goldfish: The numerous similarities that have been pointed out between Iruma and the absent Delkira suggest a potential ulterior motive for him wanting to adopt Iruma. Poro outright accuses him of trying to replace Delkira.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Supernatural Powers!: While his status as a Demon King candidate doesn't exempt him from the laws of the Demon World (see below), the last Demon King's disappearance leaves a distinct shortage of people who can actually make Sullivan follow the rules. Essentially, he's subject to the laws of the Demon World only because he chooses to be.
  • Screw the Rules, I Make Them!: He might be a Demon King candidate, but this is averted, as when it was leaked to the security force that he may have contacted humans, they treat it as if he committed a serious crime and bring him in for questioning.
  • Secret-Keeper:
    • Given that Sullivan was the one who brought Iruma to the demon world after purchasing him off his parents, he's one of the few that knows that Iruma is human.
    • It's made pretty obvious that Sullivan and Opera know about Iruma's secret work as evidol Irumi, which the two of them are so hyped for it, that they watch and record the Evidol Games on their home television. By extention, they know about Kerori, Ameri, and Lied's evidol personas as well.
  • So Proud of You: After the Walter Park Arc, when he thought Iruma was hurt and needed his help, he found him ok and admitted how much fun he had. Seeing his grandson handle the situation on his own with his friends, Sullivan admitted how proud he was of his grandson and how much he had grown.
  • Spanner in the Works: His agreeing with the conditions for the Misfit Class to remain in the Royal One and getting them Furfur, Vepar, and Hatt as three of the tutors ends up inhibiting the other Greats and Paimon's desires to use them to train their own candidates for Demon King because of how close the tutors got to their students.
  • Stronger Than They Look: He appears to be a skinny elderly demon that acts like a goofball and loves to dote on his grandson. However he is easily one of the strongest demons in his world to where the entire Security Force knew they had no chance in stopping him from leaving. He also had enough mana to fill Arikled up without any signs that it affected him where it knocked out both Sabro and Azz with a single touch.
  • Super-Deformed: Tends to take on a less detailed egg-shaped appearance when doting on Iruma or acting mischievous.
  • Your Size May Vary: In flashbacks, he appears human sized. Chapter 263 shows this most plainly, with a flashback panel showing Poro towering over Sullivan while in the modern day they have similar heights.

    Opera

Opera

Voiced by: Mitsuki Saiga (Japanese), Brian Anderson (English), Eduardo Martínez (Latin American Spanish)

Debut: Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 2 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/main_opera.png
The Sullivan residence servant and Security Devil. As someone who loyally serves Sullivan, Opera also serves and supports Iruma without question. Later on, Opera becomes a teacher at Babyls in order to help train up Iruma and the Misfit Class.
  • The Ace: They're incredibly skilled at almost everything they do, from games to cooking to fighting and more, sometimes even acting as a Hyper-Competent Sidekick for Sullivan when he isn't up to doing something at the moment.
  • Almighty Janitor: Who would have thought at first blush that the unassuming servant is actually one of the most powerful demons in the series? Possibly the only one who trumps Opera power-wise is Sullivan himself, since they're implied to be a rank 9 demon.
  • Ambiguous Gender: The story is very adamant about Opera's gender being a complete mystery, deliberately confuscating whether they're male, female, both, or neither. Their character design is androgynous enough that they could be either Bishōnen or Bifauxnen, the voice acting of them in both English and Japanese dubs is right between Tomboyish Voice and Effeminate Voice, gender-neutral writing is so heavily used that English translations utilize "they" when using their name won't work, the Kalego Side Story prequel shows them wearing both the male and female uniforms simultaneously, and a flashback in the second season outright calls them androgynous. Even Iruma in a bonus chapter asked them about it, and they asked him what he thinks. When he tells them "female", they decide to roll with it.
  • Ambiguously Related: Opera has the same hair color and cat ear hair as Ameri, but at this time there is no information if they are related in anyway. Interestingly, Uzu's reaction to running into them during the Heartbreaker (sheer terror) indicates the two may also have a connection, along with her also being a demon with feline features. Whether this similarity is related to them both being security devils remains unaddressed for now.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": They get pulled into the Heartbreaker Competition as a researcher character. They give a monotone declaration of their helplessness and asks not to be hurt.
  • Battle Butler: They are one of the strongest demons in the setting, but they choose to serve under Sullivan and Iruma.
  • Bearer of Bad News: Once Opera learns from Balam that they missed Iruma's birthday by almost 3 weeks, they are very reluctant to reveal this to Sullivan.
  • Cat Girl: Err...guy...person? Regardless, Opera's design evokes this aesthetic, as they have both cat ear-like "horns" protruding from their hair, and a feline tail.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: One of their jobs looks to be reining Sullivan in whenever his actions start getting out of hand.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Chapter 199 is focused on them. Iruma's tasked to help Opera clean up around the house, which as they clean, Opera delves into their servant relationship that they have towards Sullivan.
  • Deadpan Snarker: When Sullivan calls Opera after he was arrested for allegedly contacting the Human Realm, Opera casually asks how long Sullivan was going to be in jail.
  • Dye Hard: As shown through a flashback in Season 2 of the anime, back when they were a Babyls student they had black hair, fitting with their rowdier delinquent persona back then, while in the present day they're a redhead. While Iruma questions the color difference, Opera never mentions which color is their natural one. invoked
  • Expressive Hair: Iruma notes that, while Opera's face might stay the same most of the time, the positioning of their ear-like hair "horns" does change depending on their mood.
  • Former Teen Rebel: Kalego Side Story reveals that they were a notorious delinquent known as the "Top Dog of Babyls" during their time as a student. Though technically they were helping Sullivan take the many actual delinquents in the school down to bring order to Babyls. Though this fact apparently didn't stop them from pulling classic bully moves like making Kalego buy them bread and carry their books.
  • Heroes Fight Barehanded: Unlike the two other major adult fighters, Kalego and Balam, Opera's fighting style appears to be entirely empty handed, either punching, palming, or kicking foes into submission. This is usually more than enough to dispatch any foes they come across. And they've even been seen to be capable of eliminating much larger foes in this way, from Kalego's Cerberus familiar to the giant monsters they face in Walter Park.
  • The Jeeves: They're a classic example of a devoted manservant... you know, besides them being a demon.
  • Jerkass to One: Opera is normally a very polite and generally stoic person and loyal servant to Sullivan and Iruma. However, they have a very devious and sometimes cruel streak towards one man: Kalego, Iruma's professor. They will go out of their way to screw with him, and he genuinely seems scared of them. It gets to the point that when Kalego's contract as Iruma's familiar was nearly up, Opera attempted to renew the contract by force, whether Iruma wanted them to or not. And even after Iruma and Kalego had agreed to let the contract end, when Iruma accidentally partially resummoned Kalego after in a new attempt at a familiar summoning, Opera forces the summoning to complete, forcing Kalego to be Iruma's familiar for another year.
  • Last-Second Word Swap: After witnessing Ameri take down the panther rat monster during the Walter Park arc Opera offers Ameri a job when she graduates to be their assistant but swaps to saying the principal's at the last moment.
  • Not So Above It All:
    • They normally act as the voice of reason and sanity for Sullivan, but whenever Iruma praises them or treats them as part of his family, they're shown to be capable of appreciating it just as much as Sullivan.
    • They are also quite open to playing video games and doing other fun activities with Iruma.
    • When they were in school, they were a bully upperclassman to Kalego, and whenever a situation arises which gives an excuse to do so, they get right back to screwing around with him.
  • Not So Stoic: Opera can still frequently get caught off guard despite their usual organization and preparation, with Iruma and Ameri being the ones to consistently do this:
    • Even Opera expressed visible fear after seeing Iruma being incredibly rude and cruel to Sullivan and them thanks to being put into a "wicked phase".
    • Opera knew that Ameri was strong, but became genuinely surprised and impressed after seeing how much of an iron will Ameri had over her bloodline power. They were also very startled by Ameri grabbing them from behind and taking them up on the offer to live in their home after graduation (and to live with Iruma).
    • They show increasing shock and worry about how Iruma (who at this point had been fairly dependable) and Ameri (who is a stickler for details) are absolutely terrible at cooking, even when given clear written instructions, to the point where they nearly destroy the kitchen and end up making something absolutely horrifying that doesn't even look like food. Once they finish helping the two make cookies, the sheer exhaustion they feel is quite obvious from their slightly annoyed and defeated expression.
    • After learning that they and Sullivan had missed Iruma's birthday by several weeks, they make a truly shocked expression when learning this information via the phone. Then, when delivering the dour news to Sullivan, their ears are drooping and what little can be seen of their face is clearly visibly upset.
    • They are extremely worried about Iruma when he is nearly kidnapped by Atori. It's one of the reasons why they grilled Kalego about his brother because his brother signed both Atori and Shiida as teachers at Babyls via recommendation letter.
    • When they refuse to let Iruma attend the Deviculum Ameri invited him for fear of his safety given what happens in the Heartbreaker Competition, Iruma decides to text Azz to be his bodyguard, and while they refuse to let him, Amaryllis shows up with him, prompting them to take a huge leap back. And they know Amaryllis is one of the Thirteen Crowns.
  • Number Two: They loyally serve as this to Sullivan. When the latter has business away from the school after Atori's infiltration of Babyls and then attempted kidnapping of Iruma, he places Opera in charge of the school in his place.
  • Odd Friendship: Opera seems to have formed one with Ameri during the Walter Park Arc, to the point they worked together and even offered her a position as a principles aid after she graduates.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When they are around Kalego, Opera's general attitude is one of the troll and enjoys using their higher rank to remind Kalego of his place in past and present as a subordinate to Opera. However, when Opera interrogates Kalego over Atori's kidnapping attempt on Iruma, they discovered that Atori and Shiida were hired to Babyls through a letter of recommendation, and their signer was Kalego's older brother Narnia, who is the Border Control Special Security Chief, Opera is in a Tranquil Fury and demands an honest answer from Kalego and if he has failed in his duties as a guardian to the school.
  • Parental Substitute: While Sullivan is the one that adopted Iruma as his grandson, it's Opera that actually does most of the caretaking, cooking up his food, helping him with his schoolwork, playing games together, and generally just acting as the actual parent for Iruma.
  • Prehensile Tail: They're capable of using their tail like an extra limb, with said tail being coordinated and dexterous enough to operate a video game controller by itself as well as a person using two hands - while Opera is busy talking on the phone.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Opera is usually stoic, but a very reasonable person. They often handle Sullivan quirky behavior, maintain order in their home, and is the one that helps Iruma out the most when he has problems in school.
    • During the Deviculum Arc, they lay out the reasons Iruma shouldn't be allowed to attend: That he was specifically targeted by Atori during the Heartbreaker event, all the other high-ranking demons they could enlist to escort him (Sullivan, Balam, Kalego, or themself) would be preoccupied during the event, and that Ameri and Azz alone would hardly be enough to keep him safe with certainty when surrounded by high-rank demons. When Iruma gets Amaryllis Asmodeus, one of the Thirteen Crowns, to ensure his safety, they agree to let him attend.
  • Secret-Keeper:
    • Through the loyal connection with Sullivan, Opera's one of the few that knows about Iruma being human.
    • It's made pretty obvious that Sullivan and Opera know about Iruma's secret work as evidol Irumi, which the two of them are so hyped for it, that they watch and record the Evidol Games on their home television. By extension, they know about Kerori, Ameri, and Lied's evidol personas as well.
  • Secretly Selfish: Opera desired to see Kalego as Iruma's Familiar and was more than willing to fight him to renew the contract. Yet Opera only is interested in renewing the contract and not saving Iruma from Kalego. Though once Balam calls Opera out on that does the latter regret their behavior.
  • Shipper on Deck: Opera seems to be aware that Ameri is smitten with Iruma and subtly helps the two along in their own way, such as telling Iruma how to properly ask Ameri to dance (under the excuse it's a demon ball and etiquette must be observed).
  • The Stoic: Their default expression is rather neutral, and they rarely ever deviate from it.
  • Stronger Than They Look: While it's always been obvious that they were a capable butler and incredibly skilled physically, they're actual strength was never shown until they fought a giant "panther rat" at Walter Park, with them blocking its attacks and knocking it around with ease. In fact, the only reason they had even a little trouble was because they were caught off guard, which they rectify afterwards with some help. It's implied that Opera outranks Kalego and Balam, both of whom are Rank 8 Demons, since they still defer to Opera even as adults. In-universe, there's a rumor among the Babyls students that Opera is Rank 9, putting them on the same level as the Three Greats.
  • Team Mom: Gender ambiguity aside, Opera clearly acts as this, reigning in Sullivan and taking care of Iruma.
  • Tranquil Fury: It's rare for Opera to get genuinely pissed at something but when something does piss them off, Opera will tackle it with cold precision. Even Sullivan seems afraid of them during these moments.
  • Trickster Mentor: After becoming a substitute teacher for Babyls, they decide to give the Misfit Class a Training from Hell, by inviting them for tea. On a steep smooth cliff without flying and bloodline magic.
  • Training from Hell: Pun aside, Opera's training regiment can be extreme, but it does land results.
    • During Iruma training for Execution Canonball, they spent hours throwing the ball hard and fast at Iruma to get the boy to stop evading the ball and learn to catch it. They would barely let Iruma time to rest between volleys.
    • During their time being a substitute teacher at Bablys, they make the Misfits climb a towering rockface. At first the students do well in their joint efforts but halfway up they come to the truly problematic part where the magic they cast on the stone lasts only six seconds before the rock reverts back to the original form. The trick they must use is casting the magic quickly, climb to their own platform or handhold, and move up again in that small time frame. By the time they reach the summit, the students are exhausted but succeed. Opera then reveals the true lesson: the only way to make it up the second half of the cliff is to master the transform spell "Chirasu" and cast it non-verbally. After serving the students tea as a reward, Opera then reminds everyone they will need to climb down the same way they came up.
Opera: With a Megaphone No flying, no familiars, and no bloodline magic. This is my first lesson. You must climb up here using only your bodies and simple magic. Before the tea gets cold.
Misfits: thinking They are pure evil!!!
  • Troll: Mainly towards Kalego, but they'll take any opportunity they see to mess with him. One of their favorite methods is finding random opportunities to make Iruma summon Kalego in his familiar form.
  • You Owe Me: In season 2 of the anime, Opera aides Sullivan in looking like a "cool grandpa" for Iruma, Clara, and Azz while the two are spending the evening at Sullivan's house. As thanks, Sullivan acknowledges he owes Opera a favor. Opera reminds him later in the season of this debt and calls it in by requesting Sulivan command Kalego do home visits to each of the Misfit Class students, instead of just sending detailed reports. Sullivan agrees because of how fun it sounds like it will be.

  • Berserk Button: She seems to hate being called an "Old Hag", if the state of Lord Belial and Lord Sullivan beaten to a pulp afterward is any indication.

  • Doting Grandparent: Gloats about her grandson whenever she can.
  • Honest Corporate Executive: Owns at least one combined aquarium-beach resort, Aqua Case, which Iruma and Ameri go to after the conclusion of the Walter Park arc. By all indications she seems pretty chill with anyone who isn't Belial or Sullivan.

  • Older Than They Look: She's only 2 years younger than Sullivan and Belial, but looks at least a decade so. Sullivan accuses her of overdoing it on skincare products.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: As revealed by the introduction of her grandson Leiji, her name is actually Leviathan, but her fellow Greats simply refer to her as Levi.

    Amaryllis Asmodeus

Amaryllis Asmodeus

Voiced by: Yumi Kakazu (Japanese), Cristina Vee (English), Angélica Villa (Latin American Spanish)

Debut: Episode 19 (Anime), Chapter 36 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2714f9a0_437c_4de7_95ea_3d6ed061d40a.jpeg
Azz's mother and the Lord of Seduction. Amaryllis brings a lot of embarrassment to her son due to her persona, and showing her love for her son so out in the open. It's to the point that Azz tries desperately to avoid her whenever he's around his friends.
  • Absurdly Youthful Mother: She looks to be in her twenties despite having a son in high school, though being a demon probably helps.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Much to Azz's dismay, she's incredibly doting towards him and is so flirtatious towards everybody else that he did everything he could to keep her from coming to the Battler party, especially so that he could keep her from meeting and flirting with Iruma, even if the efforts failed in the end.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Her outfit for the Deviculum which will announce a change in the members of the Thirteen Crowns is a crisp suit with floral designs on the fabric.
  • Barrier Maiden: She has the ability to cast a powerful barrier. She can use said barrier to protect someone she likes. Anyone else who tries will become rejected.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: She's Azz's mother and one of the Thirteenth Crowns after all, and all the power and strength to back it up. How strong? Enough to slap Narnia across the dance floor.
  • Beware the Nice Ones:
    • As nice as she could be, she considers "promises" important. If one fails to live up to it, she can become quite scary, as she threatened Azz into staying with her when he promised to spend the day with her and he tried to weasel out of it by citing he needed to be by Iruma's side.
Amaryllis: Alice...If you break your promise, Mama will get angry...
    • When her son asks her to help him guard Iruma at the Deviculum when new members to the Thirteen Crowns will be named, she and Alice arrive at the Sullivan residence. She makes her appearance behind Opera with the latter not even realizing she is there until she speaks. Then she offers to not go with Iruma if Opera can reclaim Iruma from her protections. Opera barely lifts a foot when hit with the image of a gigantic Amaryllis laying provocatively and banishing Opera by pointing a finger. Opera leaps back out of fear of her power.
    • In chapter 296, seeing Iruma being outright terrified of Fenrir after he intimidates him over his views on humans and think they should die, Amaryllis bitch-slaps him on the dance floor, startling the attendees there. The following chapter amps it up by having "Fenrir" (really Narnia)'s Cerberus manifest of its own volition in response to her Threatening Aura, making it clear she is not to be trifled with.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When Iruma is shaken by "Fenir," who is Narnia in disguise, expressing strong human-hating views and his desire to kill any who come to the Netherworld, Amaryllis pops up behind him and brings him back into her protection.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Crossing over into Hidden Depths as well. While Amaryllis is fairly eccentric and perversely minded, even by succubus standards, (she thought fireworks were a form of seduction magic upon first hearing about them, but to be fair, fireworks didn't exist in the Netherworld until Iruma arrived, although the fact her mind still went there before anywhere else says something) and her son dreads the thought of any of his friends interacting with her because of her quirks, she's still a member of the Thirteen Crowns. As in, she's responsible for one of the core fixtures of Netherworld society, and is by implication the most skilled succubus alive.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: She embraces being a sexy and seductive succubus wholeheartedly, flirting with every non-Azz male she comes across and blurting out how she's constantly thinking about sex, but when she catches Iruma alone in the family house, the worst she does is teasing the boy while still respecting his boundaries and helping him through dealing with a personal mental trouble, making it clear how she's a genuine Nice Girl.
  • Doting Parent: Although she's a succubus, she is still very doting of her children, finishing her work and going to the school festival for her son to spend time with him.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Her status as a Mrs. Robinson towards young boys like Iruma makes it very understandable that Azz' does everything he can to keep her from being alone with the boy, out of the reasonable worry that she might force herself onto him, but when Amaryllis catches Iruma alone in their house due to Azz being preoccupied at the time, she only verbally teases him a bit while otherwise conversing with him in a platonic way, confirming her to be a Chivalrous Pervert.
  • The Great Serpent: When her protective aura appears in chapter 296 to reclaim Iruma after one demon at the Deviculm is upsetting Iruma with his toxic human-hating words and intimidating aura, her aura appears to the antagonistic demon as a giant snake with Iruma just taller than the lower jaw.
  • Hidden Depths: When she manages to get some alone time with Iruma after overhearing him talking to himself, she reveals herself to have a surprisingly complex understanding about how telling or keeping secrets doesn't determine how close friends, or even lovers, are, with her stating that while a certain level of honesty is good, being completely honest about everything can sometimes be just as bad as constantly keeping secrets.
  • In-Series Nickname: She likes to be called "Amu-chan" and will pout if someone doesn't indulge her.
  • Mama Bear: Even though Iruma isn't hers, she will protect him as if he's one of her own children. She makes use of this promise by bitch-slapping Fenrir across the floor for intimidating Iruma.
  • Marshmallow Hell: She gives this to Bachiko and Paimon at one of the Thirteen Dinners.
  • The Mentor: It is revealed that Raim was her student.
  • Mrs. Robinson: She has zero qualms about trying to flirt with Iruma, a young boy that is friends with her son.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She's a borderline case of Stripperiffic thanks to her prominent Navel-Deep Neckline, and her general attitude involves flaunting her body and flirting with people.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: She pops up unexpectedly in chapter 141 when Iruma is visiting Azz's home. As she explains, she had a sudden feeling Alice had invited Iruma over and came rushing home to greet him.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: Her usual outfit shows off a large portion of her chest and stomach.
  • Nice Girl: She's relentlessly perverted succubus who embarrasses her son to no end, but she's a kind and loving woman at heart.
  • Protectorate: She takes on this duty in order for Iruma to attend a high ranking Deviculm when Opera is unable to attend. She keeps the boy close and intevenes when one demon upsets Iruma by bitch slapping the offender to the ground.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Has bright pink hair that matches her bubbly and cheery personality to most everyone.
  • Secret-Keeper: Given that her son is Azz, who's hugely connected with Iruma, she's one of the few that knows about Iruma's evidol persona as Irumi. She even allows Azz and Clara to have an Evidol Game watch-party at her home in order for them to watch Irumi perform. She also catches on during the live broadcast of the Evidol Games that evidol "Amelie" is Ameri.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Translators are generally unsure whether to translate her name as "Amaryllis" (like the flower) or "Amuryllis" (a direct romanization from Japanese). Not helping things is that she demands that everyone calls her "Amu-chan".
  • Stronger Than They Look: She is a full on embarrassing parent but she is also one of the 13 Crowns, the strongest demons in the world. As Fenrir finds out the hard way.
  • Succubi and Incubi: As the "Lord of Seduction", she's the premiere representative for all succubi (and incubi by association), embracing the image of intense horniness, having an alluring body, and exhibiting a desire to seduce any non-Azz male she sees. It's to the point she mentored other succubi like Raim in the ways of being sexual demons.
  • They're Called "Personal Issues" for a Reason: She is understanding and believes in this concept for those close to her.
    • She is fine with Alice's friends not being completely honest with him. She knows there are things they won't tell each other and that isn't a mark against how close they truly are.
    • She acts on this when she agrees to guard Iruma at the then-upcoming Deviculum without ever asking Iruma from whom he needs protection and why.

Lord of Four Corners.

  • Deadpan Snarker: Based off his comments towards Paimon and Behemolt, he has a pretty dry wit going for him.
  • Human Doorstop: Paimon used him as a footstool when she couldn't reach her chair.
  • Wolf Man: He looks like an anthropomorphic wolf.

Inherited Magic: Romanticist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fb56dc88_a103_4b4e_b182_19a1e9c0ff2d.jpeg
Ameri's father and the demon security chief of Demon Border Control. Given his work in border control between the human and demon worlds, Henri's one of the few people who knows about Iruma being a human living in the demon world. He also catches on to Ameri's growing attachment to Iruma, which Henri doesn't approve of due to how much he loves his daughter.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Like his daughter, he correctly guesses Iruma is human based on the report on how Sulivan went to the human world. Despite this, after Ameri interrupts his conversation with Iruma when she calls him a "outstanding demon" he can tell his daughter is trying to tell him that Iruma's in no danger and is doing fine in school.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: He's never seen in anything other than a suit. And as the head of the Demon Boarder Patrol and member of the Thirteen Crowns, he is one of the strongest demons in the series.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: The man does not want his daughter hanging out with Iruma in any way. That doesn't stop Ameri from falling for him and going on an actual date with him later. Chapter 326 implies this is due to him suspecting Iruma is human, and not wanting to endanger his daughter when around him.
  • Death Glare: He delivers one to Iruma while disguised as Naberius Narnia at the Deviculum. While it's not clear why, it's most likely because Iruma is escorting Ameri.
  • Doting Parent: Ameri may be one of the strongest students in school, but Henri can't help thinking she's still his adorable little girl. This is even more apparent when he thinks she and Iruma are in a relationship, which causes him to remember their time when she was still an actual kid.
  • Dramatic Shattering: The poor man's glasses shatter when he envisions Ameri and Iruma marrying. The anime amps this up by (somehow) shattering them 4 times, which Iruma even lampshades.
"How many times are those glasses going to break?!"
  • Famed In-Story: He is a previous Young King of the Harvest Festival when he went to Babyls.
  • Good Parents: He loves his daughter very much, even if he's somewhat overprotective. He explained to her as a little girl how his job works and was more than willing to let her join him when she grows up, laughed when she mentioned she wanted to be his bride someday, and stomached her poor cooking to not let her feel sad.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: He's very serious and intimidating, yet Henri really is a good man at heart who only is following the rules and wants the best for others. Even though he knew Iruma was human, he wanted to ensure the boy was physically well and not being abused and was more than willing to help him return to the human world if he wanted. It also helps that he's a good father to his daughter.
  • Jerkass to One: To Iruma. Downplayed later, as he's actually fairly polite and reasonable to him, but this is just his behavior to the boy when he's by himself. As he's never actually rude or disrespectful speaking about him when around Ameri or Sullivan. Chapter 326 implies this is because he suspects him to be human and doesn't want Iruma anywhere near Ameri for her own safety. Once he sees his daughter smile happily around him causes Henri to realize her feelings for Iruma are romantic, Henri decides to personally ask Iruma how he feels about her.
  • Like Father, Like Daughter: When he at one point interrogates Iruma about how he feels about Ameri, what Iruma says about her is enough to leave her blushing furiously and staring at her lap. It also reminds Henri of his wife/Ameri's mother and the things she would say that was similar to what Iruma said. This memory leaves Henri in the exact same state as his daughter, with the shot being almost identical.
    • Even earlier on, both Ameri and Henri's first instinct upon meeting with Iruma is to grab his head with both hands, squeezing his cheeks together in the process.
  • Noodle Incident: Mentions in his first conversation with Iruma that he's met a human before, having encountered them as a part of his duties in Demon Border Patrol. He evidently took them into protective custody due to the Netherworld's many dangers and arranged for them to be sent back to the human world after erasing their memories of demonkind's existence. He mentions them in order to implicitly make the same offer to Iruma. Nothing about said human or what kind of experiences they had in the Netherworld, or even how they managed to wind up there in the first place, have been brought up since.
  • Love-Obstructing Parents: He does not like the idea of anybody getting close to his daughter. When he mistakes Ameri and Iruma for already being in a relationship, he becomes very defensive. It gets to the point where he even tells his daughter to stay away from Iruma, calling him a "brat" due to their time together. Chapter 326 has him even calling Iruma "the source of all evil" once he sees him talking with her.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Henri usually reacts with anger whenever Iruma is around his daughter, but once he realizes Ameri smiles around Iruma like her mother did with him, Henri decides to talk with Iruma with Ameri and question him about how he feels about Ameri and is nothing but calm and polite with Iruma, a stark contrast to his usual Tranquil Fury.
  • Perpetual Frowner: He's rarely ever seen with anything but a serious look on his face and frowning. Flashbacks when his daughter was little showed him smiling in affection, suggesting he's just very serious while on duty.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Like his daughter, he gets suspicious when Ameri states that she and Iruma often talk with each other. She only adds to the misunderstanding by stating that they are usually alone, after school, drinking tea while talking about love and their future (with her meaning their dreams). He takes that as them talking about marriage and that they're already in a romantic relationship. He becomes so distraught seeing his daughter talking about such things he now becomes VERY protective of her at the thought of them in a relationship.
  • Properly Paranoid: He (initially) thought Ameri was in a relationship with Iruma due to her telling him they talk about "relationships, love and their futures" and becomes paranoid at the thought his daughter dating him. Turns out his instincts was right as Ameri does end up developing feelings for Iruma sometime after this.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He projects the aura of a serious no-nonsense officer willing to do anything, even kill people, to uphold order, but that's just a facade in order to keep other demons in line. He's actually a pretty reasonable well-meaning officer who does his best to keep everybody happy while still maintaining order, such as being in charge of making sure humans that end up in the netherworld safely make it back to the human world unharmed, before they risk running into people that would genuinely want to harm them. He was more than willing to assist Iruma return to his world if he wishes to (in fact one of the first things he does upon meeting Iruma is to check the boy for any signs of obvious injuries or neglect), but was interrupted by Ameri before he could finish. In fact, he has the border patrol put on a restraining order towards the media after Sullivan publicly told them Iruma was the one responsible for saving Walter Park just so he can go home without unwanted attention. Although he was against his daughter's affections for Iruma because he suspects him to be human, once Henri sees Ameri smile like her mother did with him has Henri decide to talk to Iruma personally rather than make assumptions about their relationship and give the young man the benefit of doubt.
  • Running Gag: His glasses shatter every time he sees Iruma with Ameri.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: There are indications that he knows Iruma is human, and is willing to send him home to the human world if he wanted. Ameri, who knows herself, tells him that Iruma is "an outstanding demon" by indicating that she knows, and there's nothing to worry about.
  • Shared Family Quirks:
    • Like his daughter, he also has the habit of squishing Iruma's face with his hands.
    • He also has an overactive imagination when it involves his daughter doing anything with Iruma.
    • They both share the bloodline magic Romanticist that increases their physical prowess when they are mentally capable to defeat an enemy.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He pretty much looks like an older male version of Ameri.
  • Stronger Than They Look: His daughter is a rank 6 demon despite only being a 2nd year, yet she's scared to death of her father when he's angry, proving he more than outranks her.
  • Tough Love: He's hard on Ameri, but only because he wants what is best for her. When he invites her to the Deviculum and she tries to turn it down due to a reading session, Henri reminds her getting an invitation is not easy and if she wants to work with him when she graduates needs to take advantage of this opportunity. Chapter 326 has him willing to make sure she and Iruma don't get together no matter what not because he hates the boy, but because if he is human, he doesn't want either of them to be hurt of killed if any other demons find out.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Thunder Lord Baal used him and his position as Demon Border Patrol to detain Sullivan and keep him locked up till his plan to blow up the school succeeded.
  • The Worf Effect: In chapter 301, a Brainwashed and Crazy Behemolt hits Henri across the room, knocking him out.

    Paimon

Paimon

Voiced by: Arisa Sakuraba (Japanese), Dawn M. Bennett (English)

Debut: Episode 13 (Anime), Chapter 23 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/53d7d562_ad52_47e4_9013_42dbac19d0f2.png
The Principal Spirit.
  • Adaptation Expansion: The 3rd season of the anime brings up her rivalry with Bachiko a lot earlier than when it first popped up in the manga. Particularly during Bachiko's feast with Sullivan post-Harvest Festival. Paimon showing up in Bachiko's thoughts ends up pissing off the latter, which isn't there in the manga.
  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: Wears a black and white Victorian-ish dress, decorated with roses and frills.
  • Mock Millionaire: While it might just be her insulting Paimon, Bachiko points out that despite being part of the Thirteen Crowns, wearing an elegant dress, drinking tea, and overall seeming very high in social status, in reality she's a lower-class demon from out in the country.
  • The Rival: The moment Bachiko became a candidate to join the 13 Crowns, Paimon starts butting heads with her, which makes it pretty clear that they not only know one another, but that the two have gone at one another before.
  • What the Hell Is That Accent?: When she speaks, she has a rather pronounced accent no other character uses. The manga translation has it where she pronounces all "S" and "TH" sounds as "Z", which Amaymon calls the "Tohoku Tick", while the anime translation turns it into a southern accent, which Amaymon simply refers to as being annoying. Bachiko's insults imply it's because she's a country girl who never got rid of her old accent when she started pretending to be a rich girl.

Debut: Episode 45 (Anime), Chapter 96 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: Full Marks

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bachiko_4.png
A relative of Robin who specializes in archery. Bachiko has a good friendship with Sullivan, which he asks her to tutor his grandson, Iruma. While she doesn't take Iruma all that seriously at first, Bachiko ends up taking a liking to him once it becomes clear to her that Iruma's got the patience needed to train up in archery compared to the many demons that couldn't handle her training. She's eventually named as a candidate to replace one of the 13 Crowns that mysteriously disappeared, and despite not being chosen initially, she eventually becomes a member after the decision was made to finally fill in the empty seat that was being left for Demon King Delkira.
  • Always Accurate Attack: Her Inherited Magic is a stronger version of Robin's, which allows her to shoot up to 100 magic arrows that are all guaranteed to always hit what she's aiming at so long as she can keep focus.
  • Big Brother Bully: She's not above punching Robin in the face if he does anything to annoy her, such as being late.
  • Brutal Honesty: To her credit, Bachiko doesn't even try to pretend that Iruma was supposed to be training by running her errands, admitting without preamble that she'd just been having fun having him at her beck and call.
  • Character Tics: Befitting an archer, when pointing at something or someone, she always forms her left hand into a half-finger gun, half-docked arrow grip gesture.
  • The Clan: The reason why her Inherited Magic is stronger than Robin's is because Bachiko comes from the main Barbatos lineage while Robin comes from the lesser Balse family branch.
  • Crush Blush: She becomes beet red when Sullivan compliments her.
  • Cute Little Fangs: Little fangs poke out among her jailbar teeth, enhanced by her girlish appearance.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: She used to be a kind and hopeful person who always gave her best when trying to teach others archery. But due to the inherent aversion to hard work most demons have, every person she tried to teach gave up partway, which eventually broke her spirit, making her believe there isn't anybody with the will and drive to take her lessons to heart... then she met Iruma.
  • Energy Bow: Unlike Robin, whose only shown using his ability with a regular bow and arrow, Bachiko creates a magical set of bow and arrows to use hers, which is how she's able to fire up to 100 arrows at once without worrying about running out of arrows. When talking to Iruma about creating his bow, she explains that this is a secondary aspect of her Inherited Magic, which lets her create bows using only her mana, whereas other demons need to use a catalyst to create both the bow and arrows from.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Even Bachiko, a literal demon, can't help but point out how messed up Iruma's parents are after finding out what they did to him.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Her irises and pupils are a series of concentric rings, making them look like shooting targets.
  • In-Series Nickname: She's known as the "Supreme Archer."
  • It Amused Me: Despite having every intention of keeping her word to Sullivan to train Iruma, she decided to have some fun by making ridiculous requests of him and Shax as "conditions" for instructing them. This includes treating them like servants, having them draw graffiti on the Academy's walls, and having them cross-dress in Meido uniforms and acting the part. Afterwards, she happily confessed that she was just toying with them.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Her usual state is being an incredibly grumpy and aggressive jerk, treating almost everybody, including her cousin Robin, like crap, with her teaching method being designed to make people want to quit. That said, she adores Sullivan, and when she's reminded of how he asked her to tutor Iruma, she drops all pretenses and gets to actually teaching him, even if she initially believed he'd give up like all the other demons she tried to teach. Once he actually succeeds in her lessons, she starts acting like a proud but stern mother, making sure he's prepared before going off to the Harvest Festival. She also is relatively unperturbed by learning Iruma is human, and in fact comes to think that him being human was the biggest reason he could succeed as her student, with her vowing to protect and continue training him as well as she can.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: Bachiko may have been instrumental in training Iruma for the Harvest Festival- but initially, she completely blew off actually teaching him in favor of making him dress up in frilly outfits and serve as her errand boy for several weeks. She only remembered what she was supposed to be doing after Sullivan gushed about how much he appreciated her training his precious grandson, and eventually became a dedicated teacher who considered Iruma her best student ever. However, in the aftermath of the Harvest Festival, Bachiko and Iruma start up the "lady and butler" routine out of habit, and she's left to explain to an unamused Sullivan and Opera why she was treating Iruma as a servant.
  • Mama Bear: Following her training with Iruma, she basically becomes a stern yet caring mother-figure towards him, including feeling offended and enraged at the other tutors when they insult Iruma. She also expresses concern about how horrible his actual parents were when she hears about them from him. Learning he's human only makes her feel even more protective and supportive of him.
  • Master Archer: Her family has a long tradition of being excellent archers and she's no exception. It's particularly exceptional in the demon world because most demons outside the Barbatos family lack the patience to aim and fire an arrow.
  • Mooching Master: She makes Iruma do random chores for her for weeks because she's given up on any of her students actually wanting to learn archery magic (though Iruma thinks it's a Wax On, Wax Off situation until she admits it).
  • The Napoleon: One of the tiniest humanoid characters, with a surly and pugnacious disposition, and more than enough firepower to wipe anything off the face of the planet.
  • Oh, Crap!: When she sees Sullivan, she was overjoyed at his presence, and when he told her he hopes she'll become a good tutor to Iruma, she realized she just turned her beloved idol's grandson into her personal servant, and immediately drops all pretenses and train him for real.
  • Older Than They Look: She's shorter than Iruma, looks like a pre-teen girl and acts like a Spoiled Brat, but she's Robin's older cousin and he's a teacher at Babyls Academy.
  • Oral Fixation: She's rarely seen without something being held in her mouth, whether it's a lollipop, a twig, or a Bland-Name Product Pocky chocolate stick.
  • Pink Means Feminine: She wears a bright pink and magenta lolita dress.
  • Rain of Arrows: Her Inherited Magic, which lets her summon a bow at will and simultaneously fire up to 100 magic arrows, all of which will strike their intended target without fail, regardless of distance or interference. It's basically a more powerful version of Robin's Inherited Magic.
  • Rank Up: She ends up ascending to the Thirteen Crowns due to the decision to finally fill in Delkira's 13th seat.
  • Red Baron: She's also known by the title of "Undead Archer".
  • The Rival: The moment Bachiko becomes a candidate for the 13 Crowns, she starts butting heads Paimon, which makes it pretty clear that they not only know one another, but that the two have gone at one another before.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: She has vibrant pink hair and in the past was a cheerful and optimistic person. While in the years since she Took a Level in Cynic, she's still at worst a Jerk with a Heart of Gold, retaining her old sweetness deep beneath that heavy cynicism. It's to the point that she readily takes to Iruma once he proves to her that he wouldn't give up on her, and shows herself to still be a genuinely good demon woman by not caring about Iruma being a human beyond how that affects his attitude towards her teaching methods.
  • Secret-Keeper: She winds up becoming one of the rare demons that know Iruma is a human, due to Sullivan trusting her enough following her and Iruma's time together to tell her.
  • Signature Hair Decs: One of the most prominent parts of her appearance is a pair of arrow-feather-shaped hair-ties, signifying from the get-go her archery-based abilities.
  • Sink or Swim Mentor: Her method of teaching involves weeding out anybody that doesn't have the will and dedication to master archery, starting with making them follow her every whim on the first day. If her students can persevere through her demands, she'll move on to actually teaching them, which has its own trials and tribulations that most demons would give up on within a day.
  • Stronger Than They Look: Sullivan states she is easily as strong as one of the 13 Crowns. In chapter 200, she becomes one of the 13 Crowns pro-temp thanks to the recommendations of the Three Great Lords. She still needs to earn it after others are interviewed by the Three Greats.
  • Tombstone Teeth: She's usually drawn with large, square teeth whenever she opens her mouth, drawing further attention to her constant Oral Fixation.
  • Wax On, Wax Off:
    • As Iruma's tutor, she has him act as her servant in order to get her in the mood to train him. Iruma complies, believing her to have a reason for this. Come a few days later, and Bachiko admits the opposite: The menial tasks were just that, with no real hidden lesson or test behind them. She was just having so much fun with Iruma as her errand boy that she completely forgot about actually training him for a few days.
    • The reveal of Bachiko's backstory brings up a possible Double Subversion, as it implies that she deliberately had Iruma become her servant and follow her every whim in an effort to make him give up on her as a mentor, due to her past experiences with teaching other demons. It doesn’t work.
  • When She Smiles: Thanks to her background, she never gives a proper smile for most of the time we see her, with her either frowning or giving a smug smirk. However, as shown in Chapter 124 during a flashback, following Iruma's refusal to give up allowing him to shoot over 100 successful arrows shots, she admits nobody else came that far, which she follows up by giving a hearty and genuinely happy grin.

    Narnia Naberius

Narnia Naberius

Kalego Naberius' older brother and Henri Azazel's junior. According to traditions of the Naberius family, the eldest child goes to work in the Demon Border control while the youngest teaches Babyls. Rumors spread that he's a very strict demon who will not accept any nonsense at the Border Control. Through some behind-the-scenes dealings, Narnia becomes a candidate for the 13 Crowns, which during the Deviculum event, he's chosen alongside Mephisto to be the replacements for Behemolt and Glasya.
  • A Nazi by Any Other Name: Narnia is a firm advocate of Demon supremacy, believing that Demon-kind flourishes best when working together, but is constantly weakened by other species making their way to the Netherworld, humans in particular. It's to this end that he frequently clashes with Henri over how to handle humans in the Netherworld, as while Henri is content erasing their memories and sending them back home, Narnia would rather simply kill them. So when he, disguised as Fenrir, discovers Iruma is human, he proceeds to proclaim his beliefs to Iruma while all but threatening him, requiring Amaryllis step in to get him to back off, and when Kalego confronts him later on and he goes to take his leave, he tells Kalego to stay away from Iruma, saying it is dangerous to the Netherworld, and "the most loathsome thing of all".
  • Bait-and-Switch:
    • The reader is lead to believe that he entered the Deviculum with Baal because he is a crown candidate, and thus his presence is required. It's actually Henri disguised as him so he can act as a bodyguard for the real candidates, while the real Narnia is already at the Deviculum, disguised as Ameri's bodyguard Fenrir.
    • When we are initially introduced to him as Fenrir, he's shown as a bit of an airhead, along with his silly tendency to pose while talking about his position in the Border Patrol, and even once we learn he's Narnia, he has no problem talking to Iruma even after he learns he's human. Then, we learn about his Demon Supremecist views and he indirectly threatens Iruma's life, with the sudden intervention of Amaryllis saving him.
    • When first brought up In-Universe, it's hinted that he's The Mole working for the Six Fingers due to his being the one who recommended Atori to work at Babyls, something furthered when the one responsible for naming him as a potential Thirteen Crown is Baal. After Kalego confronts him though, he reveals that while he did know of Atori's true allegiance, it was a "necessary evil", with his later conversation with Baal making clear the two are more accurately a case of Enemy Mine, both having their own agendas independent of each other, and fully intent on using the other to fulfill them. For Baal, he used Narnia's nomination as an excuse to pull his Engineered Heroics with Behemolt, giving him the backing of the Deities, making him practically untouchable even by the Three Greats of the Thirteen Crowns. For Narnia, he needed Baal's referral to become a member of the Thirteen Crowns, which, when combined with his existing position in Border Patrol, gives him more free reign to eliminate any non-Demon elements he so desires.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Kalego remembers him as the loving big brother from his childhood, but even when he demands to know why he recommended Shiida and Atori, he feels unsatisfied by his answer.
  • Familiar: Like all members of the Naberius Clan, he also possess a "familiar" named Cerberus, but, unlike his brother, his only possesses one head and has unique black wisps surrounding it. It first manifests in response to Amaryllis' Threatening Aura after she slapped him as Fenrir.
  • Glamour Failure: Temporarily loses his disguise after Amaryllis slaps him, and Iruma was able to see his real face before he recomposes himself.
  • In-Series Nickname: He's known as the "Canine Emperor."
  • Meaningful Name: Downplayed, as it's not his actual name that's meaningful, it's his disguise's name that is. In Norse Mythology, Fenrir was the son of the God Loki, foretold to start Ragnarok by killing the All-Father Odin shortly before being killed by Odin's son Vidar, being bound by the enchanted rope Gleipnir until that day comes. Narnia is considered one of the most effective members of Demon Border Patrol, but needs to be kept on a short leash due to his ruthlessness and demon supremacist behaviors putting him at odds with the more moderate Henri. And while not directly shown to be aligned with Baal so far, his goals highly align with Baal's desire to end the demon world as it's been in favor of returning demonkind to their more chaotic roots, and was named a Demon King candidate by Baal himself, putting him in conflict with Iruma, Sullivan, and Bachiko. Much like Fenrir of myth, this sets him up to finally break free from his leash and try to bring forth his own Ragnarok.
  • The Mole: Implied. He's under suspicion of being aligned with the Six Fingers due to being the one that recommended Atori as a teacher to Babyls, which Opera interrogates Kalego about. While Kalego doesn't know, he uses the Deviculum as an opportunity to get some answers since Narnia was nominated as a Demon King candidate, by Baal specifically, only to find Henri there disguised as him, due to not wanting the public to know Narnia's actual face for the sake of working behind the scenes. Henri however reveals he is at the Deviculum, albeit disguised amidst the guests as he stalks his prey... said prey being Iruma, as he's disguised as Ameri's bodyguard Fenrir. The truth is later shown to be more complicated.
  • Necessarily Evil: When Kalego finally meets up with him after the Deviculum disaster, Kalego demands why he recommended Atori and Shiida as teachers in Babyls. Narnia doesn't indulge him further other than "it was necessary".
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: This man is scarily effective at his job. If you are within his crosshairs, he will interrogate you until you wish you were in prison. How effective? He hints that he knows Iruma is human, and tells him that any human that enters the demon world should be killed on-sight. This scared Iruma so badly, Amaryllis had to intervene and literally slaps some sense into Narnia.
  • The Nose Knows: According to Henri, Narnia has a keen sense of smell, which he uses in identifying targets that could be a threat to the Netherworld. He demonstrates it firsthand to Iruma, by sniffing him while disguised as Fenrir, it all but said he managed to figure out Iruma is human with it.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: He knows about Baal's plans and happens to align with his own. His nomination was the reason why he became a replacement Crown.
  • Scars Are Forever: All the children of the Naberius clan have three claw marked scars on their backs as a way to discipline their cerberus-shaped mana. His is shown in his Fenrir disguise.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: It's shown that, when his disguise as Fenrir briefly falls after Amaryllis slapped him, he very much resembles his little brother Kalego, just with longer hair.

    Mephisto

Mephisto

A demon that was chosen as a candidate to become a new member of the 13 Crowns. During the Deviculum event, he's chosen alongside Narnia to be the replacements for Behemolt and Glasya.
  • Casual Danger Dialogue: When he meets Iruma in his newly assigned domain, he describes the duties of a Crown in his inspections of his territory and maintaining it. He includes having to take note of magical beasts and report on any problems like the kraken which just popped up behind him and grabbed Lied and Jazz.
  • A Day in the Limelight: He's introduced as a background character during the Deviculum, but gets a true introduction arc alongside Zebubra during the following beach arc (chapters 320 - 324).
  • Horned Humanoid: Has two black horns on the top of his head.
  • In-Series Nickname: He's known as the "Board Game King."
  • Out of Focus: Downplayed. Of the 3 new candidates during the time that they're joining the 13 Crowns, Mephisto was basically just there compared to the focus that was given to Bachiko and Narnia. He appears in the Beach arc a few chapters later out of costume.

Former Members

    Delkira

Delkira

Voiced by: Shin-ichiro Miki (Japanese), Jalen K. Cassell (English)

Debut: Episode 44 (Anime), Chapter 93 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/494b391a_5635_4118_af0d_34934e545811.png

The former Demon King. He is the most powerful and influential demon in society, however he is currently missing.

  • Bad Boss: According to Sullivan's recollection, Delkira had a very disdainful attitude towards the Thirteen Crowns and their Thirteen Dinner, calling them "idiots" ready to climb "the table surface" - the demon world that he created.
  • Empty Chair Memorial: When he suddenly and without warning left the Demon World, his final message to that generation Crowns through Sullivan is to ask they keep his seat open. Centuries later, the Crowns have yet to fill this vacant spot.
  • The Ghost: He's been frequently mentioned by a few characters, but he has yet to actually appear outside of flashbacks. The closest thing he gets to a modern appearance is a vision Iruma has after making the Legend Leaf bloom that says "So it's you?" to him, but that's still just a prepared message by him, not him personally.
  • Greater-Scope Paragon: He's directly responsible for all the good and order present in the modern Netherworld, and he's the one that set up the Secret Test of Character for the Legendary Leaf so that only a benevolent and genuinely well-intentioned demon could make it sprout, but he's had no direct involvement in the story around Iruma whatsoever.
  • Hidden Depths: He's shown to have an affinity towards all kinds of music, something his friend Poro loves as well.
  • Hidden Eyes: Every time he's shown up so far, his eyes have been kept completely obscured by shadow.
  • Large and in Charge: He's the former Demon King, and quite fittingly he's absolutely massive, with the already quite tall Sullivan and Poro barely reaching his stomach. It's especially shown well by his throne in Royal One, since even the decently big Sabro sitting on it barely reaches above the halfway-point of the backrest with his head.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: Everything about his character that has been seen through how he affected the Netherworld paints him as very unlike most demons. He had an unusually high level of empathy that allowed him to influence almost everybody to follow his will, he desired peace and order to nurture demonkind into fulfilling its true potential, and he was an intense Determinator who diligently worked at putting his plans for the Netherworld into effect. In fact, it's because of his virtues that he was the most effective Demon King in history, to the point that when he vanished, nobody could find a demon comparable to him in both power and influence since. In fact, he has much more in common with the human Iruma than he does other demons, something that both annoyed and impressed Poro when deciding to give the boy a Rank Up.
  • Uncertain Doom: One of the biggest mysteries of the series is the fact that nobody actually knows what happened to him. He just up and vanished one day, with it unknown if he died or just abandoned everybody for his own interests. Complicating matters is Chapter 267's big reveal that Iruma possesses Delkira's mana, leading to a host of all new questions.

    Poro Amduscias

Poro Amduscias

Debut: Chapter 161 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_20201021_203000.JPG

A tall and powerful demon and master of music, he was a member of the Thirteen Crowns but resigned for unknown reasons. He is deeply loyal to Delkira and passionate about protecting anything that the Demon King once did or touched. He arrives at Babyls to be a judge of the Music Festival.

  • Agent Peacock: He's a flamboyant man with major musical tastes, but not only is he a former member of the Thirteen crowns, he also once used his musical talent in order to temporarily halt invaders to the demon world until reinforcements could back him up.
  • Ambiguous Gender Identity: In both body and personality he's a flamboyant gay man and is fine with being called male by most people. However, he styles his encounter with Wett of the Six Fingers as a man trying to woo a maiden, with Poro as the maiden. Whether that has any significance beyond being an extended metaphor and if he's a Bifauxnen, Transgender, or some variant of a Drag Queen is a bit unclear.
  • Ambiguously Evil: After being confronted by Wett of the Six Fingers to revive Delkira, Poro seems to have allied with them in the goal, but it's left uncertain whether or not the latter has chosen to return to their roots of evil.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: He criticizes Iruma's piano playing like this:
"I could barely stand the piano's rhythm and tune compared to the trumpet! Lousy fingering! Obvious beginner! You're not sexy enough to be a musician!"
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: He walks around in a pin-striped suit fit to his size. He also held off an army of demons with a concert lasting 666 hours.
  • Berserk Button: Do not let Poro catch you implying his precious Delkira-sama is dead. He gives Wett a serious beating the moment he does so, and would've killed him if not for Wett clarifying that he misspoke.
  • Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: He gives a thoroughly constructive criticism regarding Class A's performance only to end it with asking two of the performers for their phone numbers.
  • Camp Gay: He's extremely flamboyant in both outfit and mannerisms, along with maintaining a few incredibly feminine interests, and he makes it blatantly clear that he strongly favors other guys, to the point of stalking Delkira in the past, glomping both Kalego and Sabro, and asking two male students for their phone numbers.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: He's very jealous of Sullivan due to him always being close to Delkira in the past. The first thing he does after learning Sullivan has a grandson is ask whether said grandson is Delkira's offspring.
  • Foil: To Azz. They're both very dedicated to the one person of their interests, and is willing to do things in their name. Azz however, knows his own Undying Loyalty can be a hinderance, and will improve his own self-worth for not just Iruma's sake, but his own and his classmates. Amduscias's dedication to Delkira brings out a much darker side of him, and made him desperate enough to see him again that he sides with the Fingers.
  • First-Name Basis: He and Sullivan are close enough to call each other "Sully" and "Poro-kun". When Amduscias comes to rescue Atori, he drops the nickname and refers to Sullivan by his first name, and once Sullivan confirms Amduscias has turned coat, Sullivan calls him "Amduscias-san".
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: His wings are the usual leathery-style but the coloring on the inside of them looks like the keys of a piano reflecting his connection to music.
  • Hostage Situation: Implicitly, the reason Sullivan lets him escape with Atori is a clash between them would kill the people in Babyls. Amduscias outright asks Sullivan not to force his hand and cause greater destruction.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: With his fellow judges Meimei and Kyupa. The latter comes to his waist while Meimei might only come to his knee. The man is tall enough to lift up and hold Sabro as if he was somebody Iruma's size.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Usually jokes that he won't eat someone, yet.
  • In-Universe Nickname: He insists on being called "Poro-chan".
  • It Amused Me: This is his reasoning for raising Iruma's rank to He (Rank 5). If he just ranked up the other Misfits to be Iruma's equals at Datheth (Rank 4), it would be boring.
  • Love Makes You Evil: Poro's love for Delkira, unlike some of his other flirtations, is portrayed as near 100% genuine. Tragically, this is the reason he ends up betraying Sullivan out of a desperation to see his love again.
  • Magic Music:
    • His "King's Sound" ability grants him tremendous power with using music to make his magic. With a single note from a horn he borrows from Soi, he creates a river of water in the sky filled with the badges signifying the ranks he is promoting the Misfit class to.
    • He can unleash a gong-sound attack which paralyzes most everyone who hears it and brings them to their knees.
  • Mood-Swinger: He's quite prone to mood swings, which is lampshaded by the Misfit Class.
  • The Nicknamer: He is old enough and familiar enough with Sullivan to refer to him as "Sully". When he comes to rescue Atori, he drops the nickname and calls him "Sullivan".
  • Older Than He Looks: While it's hard to judge how old some demons are, Amduscias was a contemporary with Delkira and Sullivan when they went to school. Despite that, he looks as youthful as Opera.
  • Rank Up: Not himself, but his position as a retired member of the Thirteen Crowns grants him the authority to increase the ranks of other demons, such as increasing the ranks of the entire Misfit Class who weren't already Rank 4 to that level, and Iruma up to Rank 5.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Poro may be so obsessed with Delkira that anything which even slightly tarnishes his name, such as the Misfit Class using Royal One, his old classroom, causes Poro to go into a rage, but when it comes to his official duties as a judge, he's critical but fair. He doesn't give praise easily, and in fact is the judge most likely to put down and criticize contestants, but he always gives his honest opinion, bringing up the good points of a performance while also pointing out which parts need better work.
  • Regretful Traitor: He's noticeably less flamboyant while rescuing Atori, and his actions imply his betrayal is more out of desperation to see Delkira again.
  • Retired Badass: He is one of the strongest demons around, earning a spot as one of the original Thirteen Crowns, but has since retired from his position. How strong is he? Despite Robin's Inherited Magic being able to pass through barriers to reach its target, he's the first individual to stop it completely with a music-themed barrier with only a minor scratch on the barrier itself.
  • Stalker with a Crush: He has deep, passionate, and seemingly romantic remembrances of Delkira and was following him around all the time in the past, and is still angry at Sullivan for being around him more.
  • Super-Hearing: He can pick up the heart rates of those around him and can judge the emotional standing of an entire room. When he listens to Sabnock's heart rate, he can tell it isn't just stage fright that concerns him before their show, but that there is something key missing from their performance and it is causing anxiety. When Iruma, in a sleeping stupor, makes a counter declaration, Amduscias notices the anxiety vanishing.
  • To the Pain: He promises the Misfit Class after they earn his respect with their performance that, if they ever do anything to dishonor the Royal One he will rip their throats out and turn them into flutes.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Delkira. Even long after he vanished, Delkira and all that he did and touched are sacred things to Amduscias. For this reason, when he learns the Misfits are using the Demon King's old classroom, he is furious enough to consider killing Sullivan. Unfortuntely, this also means there's no low he won't sink if it means seeing him again, like, say, working with the Six Fingers.
  • Villainous Rescue: Following his team-up with Baal's faction, Poro shows up during the Heartbreaker arc to rescue Atori from being caught by the Babyls teachers. Poro manages to escape with Atori, but he's now at odds with Sullivan and his allies.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Despite Amduscias butting heads with Sullivan during the Music Festival, it's clear that the two demons are rather close. It's later made clear that Amduscias's betrayal had more of an effect on Sullivan than initially let on.
  • You Remind Me of X:
    • A big part of why he promotes Iruma to Hé [5] despite finding his musical talent sorely lacking is because Iruma's leadership skills and personality strongly remind him of Delkira, which both impresses and frustrates him in equal measure.
    • This trope rears up in a ugly way when during his "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Sullivan, where, after looking at the window Iruma's looking out of, he accuses him of giving up on Delkira by replacing him with Iruma.

    Behemolt

Behemolt

Debut: Episode 13 (Anime), Chapter 23 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: All Delicious

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7a630b2e_30f4_4618_be29_19269dc3bc93.png

The Glutton Lord. His mysterious disappearance prompts the Thirteen Crowns to host a "Deviculum" event to look for a replacement.

  • Big Eater: He's a rather portly man, and Amaymon claims it would do well for him to starve a little.
  • Body Horror: In chapter 301, he's revealed to have a second mouth on his abdomen, and can speak through it.
  • Extreme Omnivore: His bloodline magic All Delicious allows him to eat anything that he consider to be food. Everything he eat is transformed into mana and allows him to become bigger.
  • In-Series Nickname: He's known as the "Glutton Lord."
  • Nice Guy: He is noted by the narration to be a gentle demon by nature.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: He is a gentle demon by nature, but he is enraged at the thought of losing his seat, leading to his rampage at the Deviculum.
  • Uncertain Doom: His disappearance in Chapter 200 left many concerns as to whereabouts and safety. When next seen, his was locked away by Baal, unclear if he was alive or dead. Fully subverted once he returns in Chapter 300, fully alive, and immensely pissed off.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Baal has him kidnapped to justify the Thirteen Crowns calling for a replacement, then has him released so he can rampage at the gathering and risk harming the Deities, with Baal being the one to strike him down and "save" everyone, Baal's call for a new Demon King in turn letting the incident serve as a perfect example for it being him.

    Glasya

Glasya

An unseen demon known as the Dark Emperor. Glasya remains a complete mystery, and it's implied that his absences from his duties for the Thirteen Crowns eventually led to them being removed.
  • Ambiguous Situation: What's going on with Glasya remains a complete mystery as they've never even been seen before. The one thing that is clear though is that Glasya was eventually removed as a member of the 13 Crowns by the time Bachiko, Narnia and Mephisto were brought in as new members.
  • The Ghost: They never appeared on screen since they are absent from every 13 Crowns meeting. It's implied to be the reason why Glasya eventually got removed from the 13 Crowns.
  • In-Series Nickname: He's known as the "Dark Emperor."

Family Members

    The Valac Family

The Valac Family

Voiced by: Ayaka Asai (Japanese), Kayli Mills (English) note

Debut (whole family together): Episode 19 (Anime), Chapter 36 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/untitled2_24.png
Left to Right: Sin Sin, Keebow, Konchie, Ran Ran, Mother (in the back). Not pictured Urala and Father.

Clara's family, consisting of her mother and father, eldest brother Urala, second brother Konchie, third brother Keebow, and the youngest are faternal twins brother Sin-Sin and sister Ran-Ran.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: The anime has them make their animated debut in episode 1 in a panning crowd shot but introduced in 8, during a segment adapting Ch. 17 of the manga, which is 19 chapters before they would officially introduce themselves in the manga.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: While Clara loves and gets along rather well with her hyperactive younger siblings, she is flustered and reacts quickly in chapter 89 when Konchie and Keebow ask the visiting Iruma and Azz if either is Clara's boyfriend. Konchie points out that it's because Clara is always talking about this "Iru-" but Clara silences them before they can finish.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: All of them are just as weird as Clara, except for Urala.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Chapter 89 is all about Iruma and Azz taking shelter at the Valac household to hide from the paparazzi that want to interview them about saving Walter Park, which they interact with Clara's family. The chapter gets expanded to being a whole episode in the anime.
  • Enchanted Forest: This is where the Valac family lives. Called the Hubbub Forest, it has, among other things, meat growing on trees, a super-buff person-sized komodo dragon wearing lipstick just walking around, geometric snakes, butterflies which are basically cartoonishly drawn people that sparkle like rainbows, and a massive beast called the Shuba Shuba which is technically a shark but also has body parts of tomato, carrot, pig, kelp, and spring onion. It's weird even by Netherworld standards and the Valacs are said to be the only people who know their way around the place. Since it's their home, they see everything in it as entirely normal, explaining at least some of their Cloudcuckoolander logic.
  • Half-Identical Twins: Sin Sin and Ran Ran look exactly alike. The only way to tell them apart is the color of their clothing.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: Counting Clara, there are four brothers and two sisters.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Iruma and Azz believe that Urala is the loudest and weirdest member of the family thanks to Konchie and Keebow's poor attempt at describing him.
  • The Power of Creation: Given their family line from which Clara gets her power, all of them (besides possibly the parent who married into the family) obviously have the ability to re-create anything they've seen before.
  • Shipper on Deck: The family as a whole seems to have picked up on Clara's crush on Iruma and gave her support when trying to make food to cheer him up. During a sleepover, her younger brothers asked Iruma and Azz which one is her boyfriend, much to her embarrassment.
  • Spontaneous Choreography: They always introduce themselves this way in the anime.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: All of them pretty much have the same face and Hime Cut (with the exception of Keebow, who has a shaved head). It is only by size and clothing one can tell them apart.
  • Unnamed Parent: Neither of the parents have had they're given names mentioned yet.

Clara's Mother

Debut: Episode 8 (Anime), Chapter 36 (Manga)

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: She shows off a collection of baby photos to Iruma and Azz during the sleep over, much to Clara's embarrassment. Azz, having an embarrassing mother himself, couldn't help but sympathize with Clara.
  • Eyes Always Shut: She takes this a bit further than Stolas Suzy in that we have yet to see her open them at all. Well, until chapter 89 in the manga anyway. She does occasionally open them in the anime, with the final episode of Season 1 having her have them open for the majority of her screen-time.
  • Like Mother, Like Daughter: She introduces herself to Iruma and Azz the same way Clara did, along with wearing the same kind of shoes as her.
  • Motor Mouth: When she first meets Iruma and Azz, she speaks incredibly quickly with high energy about how happy she is to have them caring for her, showing where Clara got that from.
  • Stronger Than They Look: She's a motor mouth embarrassing parent, yet when the situation calls for it she's more than capable of defending herself and her family. During her kids hunt for food they came across a monster that even Azz couldn't beat yet she sent it flying with one punch.

Clara's Father

  • The Ghost: Clara always mentions her father alongside the rest of her family, but he's never seen with them. Chapter 89 clears this up as the mother reveals he's an adventurer who supports his family with his travels.

Urala

Debut (as a picture): Episode 19 (Anime), Chapter 36 (Manga)
Debut (in person): Episode 35 (Anime), Chapter 68 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunurara.jpg

The oldest son of the Valac family. Compared to everyone else amongst the Valacs, Urala's the one who comes off the most normal.

  • Black Sheep: He is much more serious compared to the natural Cloudcuckooland that makes up the rest of his family, to the point Kalego thought they actually kidnapped him and sympathizes with him "resisting those genes". However, despite not going along with his family's craziness, it is clear that he still loves them and they love him back.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Due to being busy at the time, Urala first appears as a picture with the rest of the family when they attend the Battler Party after-festival to see Clara. He's not seen in person until Kalego's required to pay a visit to the Valac household.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: He has the same Strong Family Resemblance as the rest of the Valac's, causing him to look like a properly dressed Clara.
  • Only Sane Man: He's the only one of the Valac family that's not Cloudcuckoolander.
  • Straight Man: He's this when it comes to dealing with the rest of his crazy family.

    Silvia Sabnock
See her entry under the New Students section here.

    Sazban Sabnock

Sazban Sabnock

Debut: Chapter 206 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunsazban.jpg

Sabro's father. He spends much of his time in his forge and has a tenuous relationship with his adopted brother and Sabro.

  • The Blacksmith: He is first seen in his forge crafting something for Baal, his adopted brother. It is a long spear for him.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The trident he forges for Baal is the same weapon Baal uses to defeat Behemolt.
  • Like Father, Like Son: His adopted brother notes for their strained relationship, Sabro and Sazban are very similar in character. This is after the brother just tried to convince Sabro to leave Babyls in order to become Baal's candidate for The Demon King and Sabro refuses on reasons of honor and Sazban demands Baal leave his family alone.
  • Papa Wolf: He doesn't show it to his son, but his expression and words make it clear to his adopted brother he wants Baal to stay the hell away from Sabro and Silvia. Baal accedes, as receiving the spear is the goal of the visit.

    Viole and Lily Asmodeus

Viole and Lily Asmodeus

Debut (both): Episode 35 (Anime), Chapter 68 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunazzcousins.jpg
Viole on the left, Lily on the right

Azz's two younger cousins who really look up to him.

  • Big Brother Worship: They absolutely adore their older cousin as if he was their big brother, considering him the greatest person in the world.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: They're extremely jealous of how Iruma keeps attracting all of Azz' attention, especially since he keeps saying Iruma is better than him, which miffs them as they can't imagine anybody being better than their big bro.
  • Floral Theme Naming: They’re named after the violet and lily.
  • Satellite Character: They're only ever seen in the story when it directly involves Azz, and their entires characters, from interactions to dialogue, relate to Azz in some manner.
  • Unknown Rival: Due to how Azz is constantly singing Iruma's praises, they try to compete against Iruma in order to draw Azz' attention and adoration back to them. Since their competing only happens when Azz is at home or during events that facilitate them being with him, none of which have so far involved going anywhere that Iruma is, Iruma is completely unaware they even exist, let alone are jealous of him.

    David

David

Debut: Episode 19 (Anime), Chapter 28 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakundavid.jpg

The Asmodeus household's loyal servant.

  • Go Through Me: Azz tries to put David in this role to keep his mother away from the Battler Party festival, but Amaryllis easily gets him out of the way, much to Azz's shock.
  • The Jeeves: He's basically the butler of the Asmodeus family.
  • Monochromatic Eyes: His eyes are completely white.
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards the Asmodeus family, no matter how crazy Amaryllis and Azz's antics are.

    Rock M. Andro

Rock M. Andro

Debut: Episode 35 (Anime), Chapter 68 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/untitled1_05.png

Jazz's older brother.

  • Always Someone Better: This is a reason why Jazz never says anything despite Rock's poor treatment of him.
  • Big Brother Bully: While it's not clear whether he has a reason to do so, he makes Jazz's life a living nightmare.
  • Bullying a Dragon: During Kalego's home visit for Jazz, Rock tries to pickpocket him. Kalego easily notices and threatens to break his fingers if he keeps at it, causing him to wisely back off.
  • The Casanova: One of Jazz's flashbacks has him sleeping with two unknown women in Jazz's bedroom.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: He gets a cameo during Kalego's home visit chapter before appearing fully at a later time when Jazz has a flashback about his brother during the Walter Park arc.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: When Kalego notices his intention to steal Kalego's wallet, the teacher threatens to break Rock's fingers if he tries. After a beat, Rock stops trying to steal from Kalego.

    Rosevelt Ronove

Rosevelt Ronove

Debut: Episode 41 (Anime), Chapter 87 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0ca2963e_b6f0_4ff8_bb57_c8091858cb66.png

Lomiere's father and Walter Park's manager.

  • Beware the Silly Ones: He is fun loving and as excentric as his son, but he is also the manager of a park who uses imprisoned criminal demons as the source of energy and his staff manages the prison too.
  • Large Ham: Just like his son, he's got a rather loud and bombastic attitude.
  • Like Father, Like Son: It's rather obvious where Lomiere gets his showy personality from.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He will pay kindness done with kindness in return. When the students of Babyls are instumental in saving his park from complete destruction, he hosts them an exuberent party and gives them all lavish gifts as thanks.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He basically looks like a slightly older Lomiere with short hair and a mustache.

    Shakky Shax

Shakky Shax

Debut: Episode 35 (Anime), Chapter 68 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: Sense Stealer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/untitled_868.png

Lied's older sister.

  • Big Sister Bully: She treats Lied rather harshly. She will ignore him for her own interests in pursuing boys and upon hearing some things Leid said about her (and most are factual critiques) she uses her powers to strip him of all his senses for a time.
  • Bound and Gagged: Leid at least binds her up when she interfers with his hanging out with Iruma.
  • Contrived Clumsiness: During chapter 274 when she and Leid unintentionally meet at Sabath, they pretend not to know each other but still annoy the other. Part of her actions are to spill something on Leid and claim it is an accident.
  • Disappointing Older Sibling: Lied points out that she's a careless person. She also fails to visit him during the Battler party because she overslept.
  • A Day in the Limelight:
    • Chapter 144 is basically an introduction chapter for her when Iruma comes over to Lied's house to play games and celebrate their success in the Harvest Festival.
    • Shakky plays a huge part of Chapter 274 where she takes part in a Sabbath mixer only for it to turn out that one of the boys she's meeting is her brother, Lied. Thus, chaos between the two of them ensues.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She gets a cameo during Kalego's home visit chapter before appearing fully at a later time when Iruma visits Lied's home.
  • Lazy Bum: Lied constantly complains how lazy she is, to the point she overslept and missed the Battler Party.
  • Sense Loss Sadness: Like her younger brother, Shakky's bloodline gives her the ability to hijack someone's body senses for her own use. However, she clearly has better control over it given that she's older. Unlike her brother who becomes exhausted at just two senses stolen, Shakky can control her bloodline to the point of stealing away all five senses at once, and not even get exhausted.
  • Shared Family Quirks: She seems to be just as desperate as Lied is when it comes to romance. When Kalego comes to talk to her about Lied's work she calls the older man to be her sugar daddy. The first thing she does upon meeting Iruma is asking him if he has an older brother. It's also implied that she ended up with nobody during Sabbath.
Iruma: You two are really alike.
    Lied: DON'T SAY THAT!
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Lied and Shakky are quite similar design-wise. If Lied was drawn to be a slightly older woman, you basically got Shakky.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Shakky doesn't seem too fazed by the lewd magazines in her brother's room. Although it might just be her being too focused on Iruma to realize.

    Chima Crocell
See her entry under the New Students section here.

    The Zepar Family

The Zepar Family

Debut (all three): Chapter 245 (Manga)

Zeze's prestigious family. In order to take advantage of their Love Eater bloodline ability, the Zepars have all worked themselves up to become famous.

  • Emotion Eater: They all have the Love Eater bloodline ability where their mana goes up depending on how much "love" material they eat. Their introduction is the Zepars at a dinner table literally eating all the kind words and gifts that have been given to them from their fans.
  • Extreme Omnivore: They feed off of love, but it actually goes beyond simply absorbing the emotion as his family dinner has them literally eating the gifts and love letters they've received.
  • Heroic Lineage: One of their family members is one of the Three Heroes of a great battle whose strength is on par with the President of the Barbatos clan and General Furfur.
  • In-Series Nickname: They've all been given notable nicknames amongst the demon world due to their work to become famous.
    • Zera's known as the "Legendary Rock Singer."
    • Palalaika's known as the "Magical Beasts Circus' Starlet."
    • Zoui's known as the "Popular Novelist."
  • Logical Weakness: As seen with Zoui getting sick after eating some hate mail, they all share the same negative-eating downside when it comes to their Love Eater bloodline ability.

  • The Rock Star: Her line of work as a famous rock singer.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She shares the same distinct "demon horns with a tiny patch of hair near the head" as her two sons.
  • Tough Love: As seen in a brief flashback, Zera's seen with a baton ready to wack her children if they lose focus in their studying.

Palalaika Zepar

Inherited Magic: Love Eater

Zeze's older sister who works as a famous circus performer.

  • Distinctive Appearances: Compared to the rest of her family, she has bangs that are colored differently than the rest of her hair.
  • Magic Dance: Her line of work as a famous magical dancer for a circus.
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: She has two flowers in her hair to show that she's a girl.
  • Training from Hell: If the Zepar family flashback is anything to go by, her mother made sure to keep her focused on studying to become famous and to learn high-end spells at a young age.

Zoui Zepar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunzoui.jpg

Zeze's older brother who works as a famous novelist.

  • Alliterative Name: Both his first and last name start with Z.
  • The Bus Came Back: After the Zepar family's introduced in a Heartbreaker Exam flashback, Zoui reappears during the 2nd Battler Party arc when Iruma, Silvia and Marnie are brought to him by Zeze to learn about art.
  • Mentor Archetype: As a fellow creator, Zoui gives Iruma, Silvia, and Marnie a bit of advice on giving in to their emotions when it comes to creating art. Though Zeze claims that Zoui apparently lectured them for up to 3 hours.
  • Most Writers Are Writers: His line of work as a famous novelist.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: He's a famous novelist who also happens to wear glasses.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He shares the same distinct "demon horns with a tiny patch of hair near the head" as his mother and younger brother.
  • Training from Hell: If the Zepar family flashback is anything to go by, his mother made sure to keep him focused on studying to become famous and to learn high-end spells at a young age.

Misfit Class Tutors

    In General

Misfit Class Tutors

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/r1.png
A group of demons that were selected by Babyls Demon School for the expressed purpose of helping each member of the Misfit Class achieve the Daleth [4] rank by the end of their freshman year, thanks to the higher expectations that came from them successfully transferring to the Royal Classroom. Each demon tutors up to two class members, hosting rigorous special lessons after regular classes as part of their plan to drastically increase one of their students’ attributes.
  • Famed In-Story: When a teacher is reviewing who Kalego has acquired as the tutors, he expresses shock at each one being a famous and strong demon. See their individual entries for more details.
  • It Was a Gift: They each give (or in Furfur's case forces them to pay for if they fail his trial) a trinket to their students in recognition of their growth. It is also to help the Thirteen Crowns and Great Lords recognize them on sight as demons of great potential.
  • So Proud of You: Each one has a moment when their respective students passes the intial tests they have given to their students and the tutor is either surprised or genuinely pleased with the students' work. This prompts the tutor to then increase the difficulty of their training methods.
  • Training from Hell: From making them work off debt, to trapping them in watery prisons, to playing videogames nonstop, to firing a hundred arrows, and so on, no tutor makes it an easy task for their Misfit student. Once the students succeed in the initial challenges presented to them, the tutors increase the difficulty once more.

    General Furfur

General Furfur

Voiced by: Kishow Taniyama (Japanese), Kellen Goff (English)

Debut: Episode 45 (Anime), Chapter 95 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/b8c1678e_daa1_4d88_b971_4cbe79d7dbe1.png

A famous general of the demon world, and alumni of Belial's Jackapo Institute. Given his trickster persona, Furfur was assigned as a tutor for Jazz and Allocer to train up their intellect and deception skills.

  • Amazing Technicolor Population: While human-like demons sporting a wide range of hair colors is normal, Furfur stands out as one of the rare cases of a human-like demon having a different skin color, in his case looking like a Big Red Devil.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: On the surface, Furfur looks like he'd be an incredibly nice and friendly tutor, even treating his students to some fun. However, he's actually the strictest and most sadistic among them, tricking his students into taking on his debts and having them work it off as their training.
  • Connected All Along: He is a former student of Lord Belial and refuses the demon's request to train Bellial-Berry Razberry, having already a stake in the quest to train the next demon King with Jazz and Allocer.
  • Cool Teacher: What he first comes off as, with him taking his students to a club to let them have fun. It's only shortly afterwards that it's revealed he's actually a Sadist Teacher.
  • Famed In-Story: Furfur is one of the three great heroes from the War of the Valley along with the demon Zepar and President of the Barbatos Clan. Little else is known, but Leid geeks out at his arrival.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Suprisingly, as the Dorodoro Brothers can attest to, he's capable of being the nice and kind person he pretended to be to Jazz and Allocer. He saves this pair from a battlefield they snuck into, trains them, and even encourages them to see their Bloodline as a good thing and giving them their aliases, all without any signs of sadism. The contrast is so shocking that when they meet Jazz and Allocer to talk about him, they are basically unable to register who they're talking about.
    • He refuses to take the offer of training Bellial-Berry Razberry to be the next Demon King because he is having too much fun with Jazz and Allocer, and wants to see how far they can go.
  • History Repeats: His treatment of Allocer and Jazz is not dissimilar to how he, as a student under his teacher Lord Belial, was treated with the Belial extorting money from him under the guise "fining" him with some penalties.
  • Jerk with the Heart of a Jerk: To Jazz and Allocer. He just can't seem to resist screwing with them. When the other tutors bought gifts for their student's recent Rank Up to 4, he makes them either win them in a game or be forces to buy them at a high price.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Furfur is perhaps the most muscular demon introduced thus far and has absolutely no problem flaunting his absolutely jacked body, sporting abs you could cut glass on and arms large enough to potentially crush someone's skull in a headlock.
  • Plague Doctor: Not his profession, but he wears a similar costume when in combat where he finds the Dorodoro brothers. Wearing this helps hide the fact to the readers the Dorodoro brothers are mistaken as to whom Furfur is training among the Misfits.
  • Red Baron: Expert Strategist.
  • So Proud of You: While he may be proud of Jazz and Allocer's development, it doesn't impede him from being a jerkass to them and mock their failures.
    • When Jazz and Allocer get strong and smart enough to realize the coin Furfur is making them guess which hand it is in doesn't need to be his and the boys try to snatch it into Jazz's hand it impresses Furfur because this means they have past the first level of their training. Since they showed that level of development, it is time to increase their training.
    • At the end of the Harvest festival when after multiple shots of all the other tutors doting over their students for their successes, Furfur just laughs at Allocer and Jazz for failing to score high enough to rank up and getting disqualified respectively, despite their work during the event being crucial to Iruma and Lied's victories.
    • When it comes time to present them with his gift before their second year starts, he makes them win it from him in a gamble or they must pay for the gifts. While they end up having to pay for the gifts, he tells Amayamon that he is enjoying working with them while refusing to help train Bellial-Berry Razberry.
  • The Strategist: Two pairs of his students shows his training methods can vary wildly, but he does correctly assess both pairs and what particular path is best suited for bringing out their potential. For the Misfits, he is tasked to train the smartest and thief of the Misfits and pushes them in harsh training that pushes their skills in deception and rule bending while being a total jackass to them. For the Dorodoro brothers he sees they need a more paternal figure and plays that role for a while, helping build up their confidence and to make them a dangerous pair of students.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He walks around without any shirt or jacket.

    Lady Vepar

Lady Vepar

Voiced by: Mariko Kouda (Japanese), Courtney Lin (English)

Debut: Episode 45 (Anime), Chapter 95 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f43defdf_35d2_40cc_84ec_9ba169ceeda0.png

A crybaby water demon who shares features with a yokai known as the "Amabie," and alumni of Lady Levi's Levialon Academy. As a water element specialist, Vepar was assigned as a tutor for Goemon and Agares, who both have elemental bloodline abilities in wind and earth respectively.

  • Connected All Along: She is a former student of Lady Levi and is so regarded by the Great Demon, she asks Vepar to train her grandson Leiji Levi to help the boy become the Demon King. Lady Vepar declines, but wishes to submit Goeman and Agares for consideration.
  • Elemental Hair Composition: She has watery blue hair while both wielding water magic and being a massive crybaby.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Repeatedly questions herself on whether she's good enough to be a mentor as she's training Gaap and Agares, as they're her first students. When they pass the first stage of their training she weeps tears of joy (once again flooding the environment).
  • Making a Splash: She specializes in water magic, which fuses with her tears.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: In the manga she just looked like an amabie-inspired case of Little Bit Beastly, but the anime shows she's actually a mermaid-amabie fusion, having a beak, Ear Fins, and a fish-like tail in place of legs
  • Prone to Tears: She is one heck of a crybaby, which actually helps with her water magic.
  • Red Baron: Wailing Empress.
  • So Proud of You: When Goemon and Agares recognize how the movement of water is similar to wind and that water can be "ground", respectively, and this enables them to break out of her water prison training she is very happy with their development, and then proceeds to increase their training.
  • Tailfin Walking: With the anime showing she has a mermaid-like tail in place of legs also comes the display of her moving around on land by hopping with her tailfin.

    Mister Hat

Mister Hat

Voiced by: Masami Iwasaki (Japanese), Kevin M Connolly (English)

Debut: Episode 45 (Anime), Chapter 95 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f355b6ee_4c17_4249_9214_469f0f273ac5.png

A gentleman-looking demon who specializes as a summoner and demonic beast tamer, as well as being Paimon's personal butler. Mister Hat was assigned as a tutor for Kerori and Camui due to the two of them having bloodline abilities that are compatible with the demonic beasts of the netherworld.

  • Battle Butler: While he isn't shown fighting anyone yet, he is a skilled combatant and is the personal butler to Paimon.
  • The Beastmaster: His specialty as a demonic beast tamer.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: He may look goofy, but he can be pretty terrifying when his cane turns into an animal whip and he gets his monsters ready...
  • Break Them by Talking: His training for Camui is to make him a Gentleman. To achieve this, he informs the young demon he must have a sharp mind and sharper tongue, and so must beat Mister Hatt in a battle of the tongues. Before Camui can understand all of this, the tutor starts pointing out every defect from Camui's posture, to his lack of nice clothes, to his over use of cologne, and so on.
  • Connected All Along: He is the personal butler to Paimon and politely refuses to help her candidate for the Demon King because of his connection to Crocell and Camui, and desire to see how high they can go.
  • Red Baron: He holds the title of "Gentleman Trainer."
  • Secret-Keeper: He knows Crocell is an evi-dol and her alternative persona, and shows this when he retrieves her for her first day of training from her studio.
  • Signature Headgear: His dapper tophat with a jaguar-like pattern does well to represent his name, gentlemanly demeanor, and status as The Beastmaster.
  • So Proud of You: When Crocell and Camui show their skills at being an Ice Queen dictator with the complete control of this batch of beasts and being the prefect gentleman able to sway other creatures into behaving as he wishes, respectively, Mister Hat is generally impressed and then increases the difficulty of their training.
  • Whip of Dominance: He's a stern Battle Butler whose cane can turn into a whip meant for taming wild demonic beasts.

    Other Tutors

Bachiko Barbatos

The assigned tutor for Iruma. She's initially brought in by her relative, Robin, to help with his tutoring for Iruma and Lied as she had forgotten that Sullivan had asked her to tutor Iruma beforehand. Once she finds out what's going on, Robin's left to train Lied while Bachiko takes in Iruma to teach him archery.
See the Thirteen Crowns section above for her profile.

Raim

The assigned tutor of Clara and Elizabetta. Having previously taught the two students in seduction classes prior to her assignment, she plans for them to raise their ranks by having them continue to work on controlling people's attention using their own seductive charms.
See the Babyls Demon School page for her profile.

Shichirou Balam

The assigned tutor of Asmodeus and Sabnock. In order to help his students raise their ranks, he has them work to improve their raw physical strength. He does this by tasking the two with landing a single hit on him while he spends his time reading their movements and launching counterattacks.
See the Babyls Demon School page for his profile.

Robin Balse

The assigned tutor of Iruma and Lied. He enlists Bachiko’s help with raising the two’s fighting spirit, believing it to be the best way to raise their ranks. When Lied gives up on Bachiko’s tutoring, Robin has the student work on his concentration instead: He first tasks Lied with clearing all of his games in six days, before moving on to challenging him to a set in a fighting game.
See the Babyls Demon School page for his profile.

Demon King Candidates

    Leiji Levi

Leiji Levi

Debut (as a picture): Episode 13 (Anime), Chapter 23 (Manga)
Debut (in person): Chapter 200 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leijirender.png
The grandson of Lady Levi and one of the candidates chosen to be the next Demon King. As a student a year above Iruma, Leiji's introduced as a second-year from Netherworld Academy Levialon, and is the school's student captain.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: First appears as a picture when Levi, Bellial, and Sullivan are arguing over who has the best grandson. Leiji doesn't appear in person until he, Razberry and Iruma are invited to the Thirteen's Dinner as Demon King candidates.
  • Glorious Leader: He gives off shades off this, clearly giving off the vibes of a tyrant or a dictator.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite his gentlemanly and orderly appearance, it turns out that he is a rather messy and aggressive eater.
    • Despite his haughty attitude, he is surprisingly considerate to those he sees as a potential equal. Upon realizing that Iruma is Sullivan's grandson and thus a competitor for the title of Demon King, Leiji apologizes for assuming that he was just a serving boy. And at the 13 Crowns Deviculum, Ameri assumes that he chose to dance with her to ingratiate himself with her father, a major political figure in the Demon World. She is surprised to learn that he simply wanted to give advice to a fellow potential candidate for Demon King, seeing her as an equal.
    • He is a very skilled stone sculptor.
  • I Have Many Names: He is known as the "Erratic Bombardier", "Gatekeeper Killer", "Guerilla Sculptor", and "Supreme Commander".
  • It's All About Me: His main personality. If it doesn't directly interest him he doesn't consider it important. Made noticeable when he held up the School Entry Speech by two hours because he overslept, and when called out on it he stated he viewed his sleep more important than the speech.
  • Jerkass: He is very arrogant and looks down on everyone else, to the point that he follows only his own 'rules' over everyone else's.
  • Making a Splash: Based on his school's underwater theme and how his grandmother is that school's principal, it is suggested that his magic is related to water.
  • Noodle Incident: He apparently burnt his right hand while launching a ceremonial canon.
  • Red Baron: He is presently best known as the "Supreme Commander".
  • The Stoic: His face appears really neutral, even when he acts angry or aggressive.

    Razberry Bellial-Berry

Razberry Bellial-Berry

Debut (as a picture): Episode 13 (Anime), Chapter 23 (Manga)
Debut (in person): Chapter 200 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/razzberryrender.png
The grandson of Bellial, and one of the candidates chosen to be the next Demon King. As a student in the same year as Iruma, Razberry's introduced as a first-year from Netherworld Academy, Jackapo Institute, and is the youngest Ringleader of the school.
  • Ambiguously Brown: His body appears to be rather tanned, like his grandfather.
  • Ambiguously Evil: He is an extremely outgoing and very friendly towards Iruma. However, he also states in his first appearance that the Demon World under his rule would be a place where the Strong control everything and the Weak "eat dirt", which seems rather dystopian.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Remember, he may be a childish and carefree guy, but he was able to take over his schools 60th to 62nd floors (which can only be done by Ringleader, someone with a high position in Jackapo Institute).
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: When eating, he likes to make rather weird food combinations.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: First appears as a picture when Bellial, Levi, and Sullivan are arguing over who has the best grandson. Razberry doesn't appear in person until he, Leiji and Iruma are invited to the Thirteen's Dinner as Demon King candidates.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: He is very childish and eccentric, always wearing a smile on his face.
  • The Gambler: Studying under a school that depends on competitions like games and gambles, it is natural that he would be a skilled gambler.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite his laidback and childish appearance, he is surprisingly neat while eating and has at least decent table manners.
  • Picky Eater: He has some food that he dislikes, and would get rid of them one way or another. One of these include sneaking the food on someone else's plate.
  • Playing with Fire: Based on his school's magma theme and how his grandfather is that school's principal, it is suggested that his magic is related to fire.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He wears a unbuttoned shirt, exposing his chest.

Evidol World

Evidols

    Kuromu

Kuromu

A young up-and-coming evidol who quickly became one of the most famous in the current day. It's later discovered that this famous evidol is actually Kerori of Babyls' Misfit Class.
See the Misfit Class page for her profile.

    Gyari

Gyari

Debut: Chapter 153 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_20210102_172241.JPG
A rival evidol of Kuromu who specializes in rock music. Gyari is known to be a greedy person who wants everything to be hers, especially Kuromu. She plays a major role during the Evidol Games where her goal is to end Kuromu's career.
  • A Lady on Each Arm: She introduces herself with a girl in each arm, and decides when she believes Kuromu and Irumi are going to marry she can just make it a threesome since she has two hands.
  • Arc Villain: She serves as the main antagonist of the Evidol Games arc where her goal is to end Kuromu's evidol career because she wants Kuromu all to herself.
  • Book Dumb: The story makes it rather blatant that she isn't very bright, at least academically. Gyari herself, however, seems to think otherwise.
  • Butch Lesbian: She's on the more physically buff side than other Evidols, has an incredibly rough and aggressive personality, and is obsessed with marrying Kuromu.
  • Dumb Blonde: She actually thinks 2+2 is 20. Her manager also calls her an idiot for how nonsensical her "plan" for winning over Koromu is.
  • Dynamic Entry: Her proper introduction has her bursting down the door to Kuromu's practice room, A Lady on Each Arm, before aggresively declaring her intent to force Kuromu into retirement and marry her. Becomes almost a Running Gag as she seems incapable of entering into any scene without doing some awesome or dynamic stunt.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: While her proper introduction is in chapter 184, Gyari can actually be seen in chapter 153 when Kuromu talks about the hell dance to the Misfits. Thus, already showing that Gyari was the only other evidol with enough will to keep going with Kuromu until the end.
  • Entitled to Have You: She firmly believes she and Kuromu should marry and makes no shy effort to propose to her in front of the entire audience.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: Besides her own interest in Kuromu, she's also so charming that several other girls are obsessive fans of her, even managing to coerce Kuromu's fourth team-member over to her side just by flirting with the girl.
  • Greed: Her personality in a nutshell. If she wants it she believes she is entitled to have it.
  • Graceful Loser: Once Kuromu's team won the Evidol Games, Gyari did not show up at the award ceremony... because she was busy getting a gift for her rival.
  • Idol Singer: One that specializes in rock music.
  • The Leader: She's the leader for Team Gyari during the Evidol Games.
  • I Love You Because I Can't Control You: While Gyari fell for Kuromu pretty much at first sight, the fact that Kuromu rebukes her when no one else ever did before drives her wild. It's later revealed that Kuromu does indeed return Gyari's feelings, but refuses her anyway just to pressure the other evidol into achieving new heights in her efforts to "win" Kuromu
  • Love Confession: After losing the games, Gyari confesses her love for Kuromu in front of the entire audience. Kuromu just replies "I know", but the smile she gives back to Gyari suggests she may reciprocate her love.
  • Psycho Lesbian: She's utterly obsessed with Kuromu romantically, seeing her as the only person, gender be damned, that's worth being by her side, with her refusing to take "no" for an answer. Though in an ironic twist it turns out that Kuromu not only completely feels the same way but might even be a bigger psycho as she purposely gaslights Gyari just to see how far the girl will go to win her over

    Beeber

Beeber

Debut: Chapter 186 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunbeeber.jpg
A male evidol who takes part in the Evidol Games. The team led by Beeber made it to the final four against Kuromu, Gyari and Nenette. He also ends up taking a liking to Evidol "Lindy" during the competition.
  • Amazon Chaser: He and many other male evidols start to hit on "Lindy" after the latter destroyed Beeber during the Tail-wresting game. It can only be assumed that they liked the feistiness that "Lindy" showed off to them.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: During the Evidol Games, he gets destroyed by Lied/"Lindy" during their Tail-wrestling match.
  • Horned Humanoid: His demon horns are an odd-variant in that they look like he has a pair of demon wings sticking out of his head.
  • Idol Singer: A rare sighting of a named male evidol, and isn't crossdressing like Iruma and Lied. His final rock performance ended up being interrupted by Gyari.
  • The Leader: He's the leader for Team Beeber during the Evidol Games.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: His name is an obvious reference to the pop singer, Justin Bieber.

    Nenette

Nenette

Debut: Chapter 186 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunnenette_58.jpg
A female evidol who takes part in the Evidol Games. The team led by Nenette made it to the final four against Kuromu, Gyari, and Beeber.
  • Flat Character: Compared to the other three team leading evidols who made it to the final four of the Evidol Games, Nenette was easily the least characterized.
  • Horned Humanoid: Her demon horns stick out the top of her head.
  • Idol Singer: One of the many evidols that took part in the Evidol Games. However, she chose not to take part in the final performances due to believing that there's no point after Gyari's rock performance took the crowd by storm.
  • The Leader: She's the leader for Team Nenette during the Evidol Games.
  • Signature Headgear: Part of her costume for the Evidol Games is having a flower on the side of her hair.

A rookie female evidol that Kerori recruited to be the fourth member of her team for the Evidol Games. However, Gyari got to Merun before the latter could join up with Team Kuromu, which resulted in Kerori needing to quickly find a replacement.
  • Action Girl: Kerori describes her to be as such being athletic and brimming with energy when she's hyping up Merun to Iruma and Lied.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Merun's introduced as the 4th member of Team Kuromu only to be completely removed in the span of one chapter, and has to be replaced by Ameri.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Instantly switches to Team Gyari after running into, and being turned on, by Gyari on the way to the Evidol Games.
  • Farm Girl: Her backstory is that she was raised in the countryside, which a picture is seen of her working on a farm and gathering up vegetables.
  • One-Shot Character: She disappears after the one chapter she appeared in.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Her hair is tied up as such.

  • The Rival: Given the rivalry between Kuromu and Gyari, she could be viewed as such towards Gyari's manager.
  • Secret-Keeper: Given that she's Kuromu's evidol manager, she's one of the few people who knows that Kuromu and Kerori are the same person. By extension, she also one of the few that knows about Iruma, Azz, Clara, Lied and Ameri helping Kuromu out with their respective evidol personas.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Being Kuromu's manager means that she has to be quite competent at her job, which she happens to be wearing glasses.

    Thoth the Genie
A sphinx-like being who lives near Babyls. He is the guardian of the Seed of Beginnings needed to bloom the Legend Leaf.

  • Genius Bruiser: Not only is he incredibly big and powerful, he can identify the joke Naphra tells him to its number in the volume in the joke book Naphra took it from.
  • Impossible Task: He will give the Seed of Beginnings to any who either defeat him in combat or tells him a story which moves his heart. He is a giant being of ancient power, so the chances of a First Year besting him are all but impossible. He also has encyclopedic knowledge of all books in the Netherworld, so telling him something new is equally difficult. It takes Iruma acting out the first volume of First Love's Memories with some props and Naphra to move Thoth's heart.

The princess of the Deities. She first appears at the Deviculm when the Thirteen Crowns announces a change in their members.

  • Flower Motif: She will communicate via flowers over actually speaking.
  • Sheltered Aristocrat: It is implied she doesn't interact with demons often and even that is rare. She gets excited when one gifts her a cellphone and considers Behemolt's attack on her more amusing as she is saved swiftly by Baal from any harm.
  • The Voiceless: As a Deity of high rank, her words carry immense weight in a political manner, so she typically communicates via flowers with messages on them. Her not only thanking Baal in her true voice but giving him her support as thanks for saving her puts Baal on par with the Three Greats in terms of political clout.

Iruma's ridiculously selfish and irresponsible parents. They're the ones who sold him to Sullivan without Iruma's knowledge on their cruel act.

  • Abusive Parents: They are utter scum who treated Iruma more like a tool than a child, including working numerous incredibly dangerous jobs and being forced to survive in the wild the moment he knows how to walk, and eventually selling him to the demon Sullivan. You just know they're horrible monsters when Iruma himself admits that his parents selling him to a demon for money is perfectly in-character and he'd be very happy if he never saw them in his life ever again, something that not even the evilest demons he's met have ever made him feel. It's telling that whenever the Narrator mentions them, he starts off by calling them either "Scumbag", "Stupid", of "Selfish Moronic" Parents. Not to mention when Iruma is under the effects of Koko Orobas's Bloodline Ability: Trauma, the first thing Iruma sees are his parents.
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: One of their biggest Faux Affably Evil methods for keeping Iruma's loyal servitude was lovingly patting him on the head and telling him what a "good boy" he is. Not only was this simply another way they kept him under their control, but the way they did it showed that they saw him as little more than a loyal pet for doing their bidding, like a trained dog.
  • All Take and No Give: Their entire relationship with their son is this. Iruma always gave his all for their happiness, but not only did they never show any true appreciation for his efforts, they eventually "rewarded" him by selling his soul to a demon for more money.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: While we know they're not nice people by their words and actions, it's heavily implied they pretended to be good parents around others in order to keep people from discovering their abusive treatment of Iruma.
  • Deal with the Devil: How the whole plot of the series started in the first place, by them making a deal with Sullivan to sell their son to him in exchange for money.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Based on how they interact with each other outside dealing with Iruma, there's something close to genuine love between them, and this is the only redeeming factor about them that doesn't make them complete sociopaths, but even then this makes them all the more morally reprehensible, as it shows they're at least capable of some form of love, even if mainly because the two of them are perfect for each other as morally corrupt monsters, while they show themselves as completely uncaring towards their own flesh-and-blood son, Iruma.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Whenever they're shown, they have cheerful smiles and sunny dispositions, which is undercut by every word that comes out of their mouths and every action they take being for manipulating Iruma into doing whatever they want him to.
  • Financial Abuse: Iruma was the only one who did work in the family, performing numerous jobs all for the sake of trying to support his family, while they took all the money and spent it on their personal luxuries, never leaving him so much as a penny in return for his efforts. The ultimate example was selling him to Sullivan, giving them tons of money in exchange for getting him out of their lives for good, meaning they no longer need to even pretend to care for him.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: They've never been seen in person, only showing up in flashbacks, but the results of their antics, both past and present, are constantly felt throughout the story due to the effects they had on Iruma, both negative and positive.
  • Hate Sink: Two selfish people who gladly sold their son's soul to a demon for quick cash makes them very easy to hate. They only get more despicable from there as the audience learns more about how they "raised" Iruma.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite their selfishness and laziness, the two of them seemed to have some good knowledge on summoning demons and how to make deals with them without getting harmed.
  • Hidden Eyes: Whenever they're shown in flashbacks, their eyes are hidden by the shadows of their hair.
  • Hilariously Abusive Childhood: Despite how horrible they were when it came to "raising" Iruma, the majority of it is played for incredibly dark laughs.
  • Humans Are the Real Monsters: They somehow manage to be worse than the majority of demons in hell, being almost on par with the few genuinely evil and homicidal demons in terms of sheer depravity and horrible actions, to the point that when Bachiko hears about them from Iruma, she feels shock and concern about his old life.
  • Jerkass: They may be capable of pretending to be nice people, but it's quite obvious from both their words and actions that there's not a single nice or compassionate bone in their bodies.
  • Karma Houdini: They abused Iruma for fourteen years without ever being caught before eventually selling him to Sullivan, and as far as we know they never had to pay for their crimes after the deal, meaning they get to continue happily living their lives without anybody the wiser about what horrible parents they were.
  • Kick the Dog: They basically made a hobby out of forcing their son into living a non-stop life of misery and suffering, all for their own benefit. Selling Iruma to a demon was pretty much the lowest point they could possibly go.
  • Lack of Empathy: Selling Iruma to a demon for money makes it quite obvious they hold no concern for how their actions might impact him mentally, only what they could get out of the deal.
  • Laughably Evil: The two are rotten parents with no empathy for their son's pain. At the same time, they put Iruma through such hilariously cruel situations that their abuse of him becomes downright comedic.
  • Like Parent, Unlike Child: They're extremely lazy, selfish, and irresponsible while their son is known to be hard-working, kind, and somehow more mature than them.
  • Manipulative Bastard: They were quite good at getting Iruma to do whatever they wanted by sweetly asking him and giving him false forms of affection, like an Affectionate Gesture to the Head. There's also some implication that part of why they got away with their criminally negligent and effectively abusive treatment of Iruma was by way of manipulating and bribing people into either not noticing or turning a blind eye to it.
  • Offing the Offspring: Given how demons are quite well-known to do horrible things to any humans they come upon, it's pretty obvious that Iruma's parents sold him to Sullivan fully expecting that he would either be tortured to death or eaten. Even before that, they also put him through dangerous situations that could've killed him if it wasn't for the fact that he managed to develop strong dodging skills that would become useful in his time in the Demon World.
  • Parental Abandonment: They sold Iruma to Sullivan without a care about what kind of gruesome fate that might possibly be for him. While for Iruma, it luckily turned out to be a massive improvement to his life, his parents didn't see it as mattering what would happen to him, only caring about the money they got out of the deal.
  • Parental Neglect: When they weren't putting Iruma to work, they heavily ignored him, even leaving him to live in the woods.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: They show an incredible lack of concern for their own child, forcing him to work and leeching off of the fruits of his labor without taking any responsbility.
  • Satellite Character: Due to the fact we never see them in person, all of their character is shown through flashbacks, memories, and other mentions by Iruma, meaning we only know of them based on their former interactions with their son, so how they would be like around other people is completely unknown besides indirect implications.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: They're only seen in flashbacks from Iruma's childhood, but their abusive and selfish behavior still has a big influence on his kind nature, along with being the ones who sold him to the very demon who would become his loving and doting adoptive grandfather.
  • Social Services Does Not Exist: Regardless of how they've done a good job hiding just how much they've been manipulating Iruma as what is effectively a slave, the fact he kept getting into multiple terrible incidents since childhood, such as running into wild animals, living out in the woods, and running away from the mafia, would've at least made the local authorities suspicious about what's going on, but in order for the story to be possible everybody else on Earth were completely oblivious to these hints.
  • The Sociopath: All of their actions that have been shown point to them being nearly incapable of caring for most other people, with them especially having zero care about or remorse for all the horrible things they did to Iruma, only viewing it in terms of how it could benefit themselves. They aren't total sociopaths since they have potential for forming emotional connections, specifically shown by their Unholy Matrimony, but even then it's more a case of Birds of a Feather, being perfect for each other as a duo of manipulative, morally-bankrupt monsters.
  • Spanner in the Works: Their final act of abuse towards Iruma, selling him to a demon, is actually the best thing they have ever done for him. Beyond improving Iruma's life significantly it also had a very positive effect on Netherworld itself.
  • Stupid Evil: Each and every one of their actions, up to the point of selling their son to a demon for money, instead of anything like supernatural powers or higher worldly status, show that, while they were skilled enough to avoid getting outed as criminally Abusive Parents and knowledgable enough to summon a demon, they were so obsessed with their greed and immediate desires that they were incapable of using that talent productively or pragmatically. It's to the point that the narrator outright calls them idiots for their way of being evil.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: They never once showed actual gratitude towards Iruma for all the hard work he endured for their sake, repaying his work by selling him to a demon without any concern about what he could go through.
  • Unholy Matrimony: They're a married couple who were equally committed in the abuse and neglect of their son, Iruma, up to and including agreeing on selling Iruma to the demon Sullivan for money.
  • Unnamed Parent: Their given names are unknown, with it only by sharing Iruma's surname through blood that we know they're the Suzuki's.
  • The Un-Reveal: Despite the fact that the entire plot was started because of it, no explanation is ever given for how they were able to contact a demon in order to sell Iruma in the first place.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Granted, they're never shown to have raised a hand against Iruma themselves, but even before giving him away to a demon, they were shown to have no problems putting him in danger, such as using Iruma as live bait to fish or as a literal human shield from animal attacks.
