Our Battler

The main focus of the story. An unofficial battler (school club) at Babyls. It is (allegedly) a revolutionary group that plans to take over and rule the demon world.
    Shaoron Teufel

Shaoron Teufel

Voiced by: Jun Fukushima

Inherited Magic: Hate Eater

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/srn.png
A freshman demon who wants to stand out and join the student council.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Utsu calls him "Shao-chan".
  • Always Second Best: No matter what Shaoron does to make himself stand out, he is always upstaged by Iruma.
  • Amusing Injuries: This is how many of his injuries end up as, especially since he seems to heal rather quickly from them.
  • Attention Whore: Shaoron mentions that he does all kinds of dangerous and outrageous things just so that people would notice him.
  • Butt-Monkey: Like Iruma, he takes the physical brunt of his series' slapstick. Unlike Iruma, however, he is unable to avoid the danger whenever it flies his way.
  • Character Development: Shaoron initially often tries to upstage everything that Iruma does as he believes that Iruma is the reason why he can't be popular. As the story goes on, he realizes that doing so would just do him no good, as people like Iruma simply because of his own personality. This leads to Shaoron deciding to just be himself and work on becoming more popular with his own way alongside his friends. Zom even points out in chapter 76 that, by that point, Shaoron hardly cares about Iruma anymore.
  • Chew Toy: Most of the injuries and misfortune he faces are usually his fault due to his enormous pride and ego. Taken literally in chapter 2 which ends with him being chewed by weeds. It also nearly happens again during the flying race but Zom managed to save him.
  • Contrasting Sequel Protagonist: More like Contrasting Spinoff Protagonist. Shaoron contrasts Iruma in various ways:
    • While Iruma is a human who gets sent to the Misfit Class, Shaoron is a demon who gets sent to a relatively normal class. For even extra contrast, Shaoron outright wanted to be in the Misfit Class.
    • Iruma does not want to stand out, but somehow always finds himself at the center of attention. Shaoron, however, wants to stand out and more or less throws himself into danger for that reason, but he either gets attention in a way he does not want or just outright fails to get it instead.
    • Aside from making sure that he doesn't get eaten, Iruma began his life as a student without any personal goals or ambitions, and he didn't have any friends either. Shaoron, on the other hand, already has a personal goal, ambition and a friend before he even stepped foot into Babyls Demon School.
    • Iruma possesses superhuman reflexes, which allow him to prevail against any of the dangers he faces without much injury. Meanwhile, Shaoron is a relatively average demon in that department which, while also allowing him to survive the dangers he faces, usually ends him up with far more injuries.
    • Iruma helps people simply due to being too nice (as well as being unable to refuse anybody who asks), while Shaoron only helps people in order to get recognition from others.
    • Iruma is associated with the sin of Gluttony as shown by his big appetite, while Shaoron is associated with the sin of Pride.
  • Determinator: What he lacks in ability and strength, he makes up for in sheer spirit.
  • Emotion Eater: The Teufel family bloodline is the complete opposite of the Zepars. While the latter feed off of love, the former gain mana through others' hatred and abhorrence towards them.
  • Expressive Accessory: The button on Shaoron's knit cap changes its expression to match his own.
  • Glory Seeker: He wants to be adored and respected by other people, even if it makes him weak.
  • Hero of Another Story: Shaoron has his own (mis)adventures away from (or sometimes even near) Iruma.
  • Hero-Worshipper: He admires Ameri for how cool she is, and said admiration drives him to aim for joining the student council.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: He has an inseparable bond with Utsu, much to their own dismay.
  • Imagine Spot: He tends to have fantasies especially in early chapters about being popular and a member of the student council while also imagining himself taller and more handsome than he actually is. Utsu notes that Shaoron does this a lot.
    • Chapter 43 has him fantasizing himself, Zom, and Utsu as evidols.
  • Important Haircut: Downplayed. In chapter 82, on the day of the trip to amusement park, Shaoron appeared with slightly shorter hair, revealing his ears. It remained that way in later chapters.
  • Lethal Chef: Invoked for the Mega Meal Challenge in which Shaoron mixes all the remaining dishes in a pot to make it easier to eat. The result is a swirling black mass with mouths and eyes which may even be alive since it force feeds itself to his classmates.
  • Logical Weakness: Since he becomes strong by feeding off hate from others, love and adoration actually weaken him. Shaoron doesn't seem to mind as he likes being adored.
  • Meaningful Name: His last name is the German word for "Devil".
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: It is not that Shaoron is an average demon, it is just that Iruma completely outshines Shaoron with his achievements and growing reputation.
  • Pride: He has a huge amount of pride, as shown by how he tries to get noticed (and eventually scouted) by the student council instead of just asking to join them and how he doesn't quit Our Battler due to wanting to feel a sense of superiority in that situation. This also makes him easy to accept certain tasks by either goating or complimenting him.
  • Slept Through the Apocalypse: He daydreamed through Iruma's curse chant.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: On his first day, he outright calls himself "The Main Character of Babyls" despite not even having begun classes yet.
  • Social Climber: Ultimately Shaoron can be considered as this, as he wants to attain a high rank and become the most popular student in Babyls.
  • Spell My Name With An S: His name can be written as "Shaolon".
  • Stronger Than They Look: Although he appears to be average at first glance, Shaoron is actually very athletic. He's also known for having strong arms and being part of a baseball team. He eventually gets to show off his athleticism during Class D's Cannon Ball Execution game, where he becomes the last two standing along with Utsu, and eventually winning the game after Utsu fails to attack him.
  • Super Mode: Anytime he activates his bloodline, his hair becomes messier and somewhat spikier, his eyes become glowing orange with Hellish Pupils, his tail turns black, and his wings become dark and shadowy.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: After several disastrous school days and the flying race, he managed to attain Rank 2.
  • Unknown Rival: Just like Kerori, he is jealous of how much attention Iruma gets. Iruma, on the other hand, hasn't even met Shaoron at all.

    Utsu Lehrer

Utsu Lehrer

Voiced by: Kosuke Toriumi

Inherited Magic: Standpoint Advantage

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/utu_4.png
An incubus who gets roped into the (mis)adventures of his friend, Shaoron.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: He's desperate enough to show the roots of his wings begging Shaoron to help him raise his rank.
  • Butt-Monkey: Just like Shaoron, Utsu takes the force of the series' slapstick.
  • Camp: Due to the fact his training for the Cannon Ball Execution Game consists of playing a dancing game, he poses exaggerated dance moves when dodging.
  • The Casanova: He uses most of his time to seduce girls and is rather succesful at that. He even claimed he has around 48 girlfriends.
  • Charm Person: Being an incubus, this is a given. He can seduce anyone and sometimes even manipulate them into obeying him.
  • Comedic Spanking: One of the most common running gag involving Utsu has him getting spanked in the butt by someone (usually Shaoron).
  • Comically Missing the Point: Upon finding out that Iruma had summoned Kalego into becoming his familiar, Utsu wonders if he can do the same thing with Momonoki.
  • A Day in the Limelight: He is the main focus during the Cannon Ball Execution Game.
  • Didn't Think This Through: His 'training' allowed him to easily dodge incoming balls, but he put no practice in attacking at all which is why he loses to Shaoron at the end of the game.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Pikto calls him "Otaku-kun".
  • Eye Color Change: Anytime he activates his bloodline, his right eye changes color. The sclera becomes navy blue and the iris becomes red.
  • Foil: His focus and preparation for the Cannon Ball Execution Game is more or less the opposite of Iruma. Iruma already has Super-Reflexes and trained on counterattacking which is what allowed him to win and Rank Up, while Utsu trained in dodging, but forgot to practice in attacking which is why he loses in the end.
  • Hopeless Suitor: While he can easily seduce other students, he also wants to seduce both Ameri, the student council president, and Momonoki, a teacher. However, it's more or less clear he has no chance since they both are attracted to someone else (Iruma for Ameri and possibly Kalego for Momonoki).
  • Hypocrite: Despite being a womanizer, Utsu hates being cheated on. In chapter 25, he ended up crying over the girl from the Library Battler hanging out with another guy.
  • In-Universe Nickname: Most people call him "Dai-sensei"note , roughly meaning "Grandmaster" or "Great Teacher". It makes sense as his last name means "Teacher" in German.
  • Jerkass: He comes across as this sometimes, treating his friends like trash without any consideration. Though, to be fair, it's not like his friends actually treats him that nicely either...
  • Really Gets Around: When he said he wanted to seduce every girl in the school, he truly meant every girl, since he even tried to put moves on Dosanko and a Super-Deformed classmate who looks similar to Sullivan's chibi egg shape.
  • Status Effect-Powered Ability: Because of his bloodline, the effectiveness of Utsu's seduction powers depends on perspectives regarding his target. He can easily seduce any person or creature who is seen by him (or even see themselves) as "inferior" to him.
  • Succubi and Incubi: He is an incubus who wants to seduce every girl in the school.
  • Sultry Bangs: He has one that covers his right eye, giving him a cool and seductive image fitting his incubus nature. It also conveniently hides the fact that his right eye changes color anytime he activates his bloodline ability.
  • Totem Pole Trench: In chapter 19, he does this with Kamui to gain access to Raim's seduction class by impersonating Kalego, and Raim herself seems to buy it ...until the real Kalego shows up and punishes both of them.
  • Wax On, Wax Off: In order to train for the Cannon Ball Execution Game. He played Devil Dance Revolution a lot which allowed him to build up more stamina and dodge the balls in exaggerated dance moves.
  • Wise Beyond His Years: Downplayed. Utsu seems responsible enough to hold a credit card (under his own name, no less) despite being only a first year student.

    Tonton Schwein

Tonton Schwein

Voiced by: Yūsuke Kobayashi

Inherited Magic: High Calorie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ton_0.png
Tonton and his familiar
A classmate of Shaoron and Utsu who also joined Our Battler. A bookish pig-shaped demon with an appetite as big as his love towards his familiar Ton.
  • Animal Motifs: Pigs. Aside from the fact that he actually looks like one, most of Tonton's belongings seem to have a pig theme going on as well.
  • Big Eater: He loves to eat food, and was willing to participate in a Mega Meal Challenge with Shaoron. However, his appetite is nothing compared to Iruma. While Tonton struggles during said challenge with his friends, Iruma completed it by himself with no problem.
  • Carnivore Confusion: Overlapping with Black Comedy Cannibalism, he has no trouble eating pork despite looking like a pig, which was lampshaded by Utsu.
  • Cast from Calories: Since he gains mana through food, he's bound to suffer from this trope. He can easily get exhausted if there's nothing around for him to eat.
  • Eyes Always Shut: His eyes are usually seen when he experiences shock. Chapter 3 reveals that he has Black Bead Eyes.
  • Food as Bribe: As someone who eats a lot, Tonton would easily accept any request if there's food as a reward, such as when Shoppi asked him to edit Our Battler's promotional video in exchange for Cino (unwillingly) treating him to BBQ in chapter 23. Hell, the reason why Tonton joined Our Battler is because Gruppen offered him food when he lost energy due to not having breakfast on the first day of school.
  • Hypocrite: In chapter 26, Tonton called Shaoron and Utsu out for trying to copy the Misfits' (as well as some of the teachers') fashion style and tells them to just be themselves. At that point, Tonton was wearing slippers not unlike Clara's.
  • Meaningful Name: Schwein is the German word for "Pig".
  • Nice Guy: He's very well-mannered and gets along with everyone quite nicely.
  • Not So Above It All: While he's generally nice, he sometimes makes fun of Utsu for his low rank.
  • Only Sane Man: He often has to deal with Shaoron, Utsu, and/or Zom's antics. It gets downplayed in later chapters.
  • Pig Man: He looks like a pig and was mistaken for a Devil Pork.
  • Power-Up Food: His bloodline allows him to turn any food he eats into mana, effectively making him stronger the more he eats. This is how he is able to summon Ton for a long period of time.
  • Repetitive Name: His given name, Tonton. To an extent, his entire full name may count as this as well. His given name is derived from the Japanese word for "Pig" (豚)note  while his surname is "Pig" in German, so his name basically translates to "Pig Pig Pig".
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: He seems to be able to understand magical beasts and communicate with them.
  • Your Size May Vary: Originally Tonton appears to be only slightly taller than his friends. However, the height difference is shown to be really far in later chapters. According to Word of God, Tonton's height in the later chapters is more accurate than in the early ones as he is supposed to reach around two thirds of Gruppen's height.

Ton

Tonton's Devil Pork familiar.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": Somewhat counts as "Ton" literally means "Pig" in Japanese.
  • The Leader: The Ton Village arc reveals that Ton is the chief of a herd of Devil Porks living in the mountains.
  • Loyal Animal Companion: He seems to be very loyal towards Tonton, to the point of worshipping him. He even went as far as ordering the other Devil Porks in his village to build a shrine in order to wish Tonton luck before the Harvest Festival, much to Tonton's own embarrassment.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Is considered this in-universe to the point a flock of students chased him around when he got separated from his master. Averted with his true form, where he looks very ferocious instead.
  • Talking Animal: Zigzagged. He can speak in his true form, but when summoned by Tonton, his speech is reduced to cute oinks.
  • Uncatty Resemblance: Exaggerated. He looks exactly like his master to the point people can't tell the difference.
Shaoron: I don't know which one's the familiar...

    Zom Bombe

Zom Bombe

Inherited Magic: Bomb Spawner

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zom.png
One of Shaoron's classmates who is known for his tendency to blow things up.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: In chapter 9, Zom saves Shaoron from the Man Eating Plants because Shaoron is the only person who actually wants to play with him. This is also one of the reasons why Zom rejected Rader's offer to join the Athletics Battler, as he feels much happier when Shaoron and the others are around.
  • Big Eater: He actually has an appetite big enough to rival Tonton.
  • Characterization Marches On: Downplayed. During his introduction, Zom was very boisterous and borderline Ax-Crazy. In later chapters, however, he only shows that personality on certain occasions and is usually rather tame.
  • The Dreaded: It's heavily implied that one of the reasons why Zom doesn't have many friends is because people are just too afraid of him.
  • Expressive Accessory: The eyes on Zom's hood frequently change shape based on his expression.
  • Foil: To Clara. Both are outcasts who just want somebody to play with. The difference between the two is that Clara was shunned by everyone due to her bizarre nature, while people stayed away from Zom because of how dangerous he is. It should also be noted that even after becoming friends, Shaoron is still reluctant to hang out with Zom, while Iruma befriends Clara with no problem.
  • Having a Blast: His bloodline ability, "Bomb Spawner", allows him to... well, spawn bombs.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: He's rather desperate for friends. During his first appearance, he ended up crying because his classmates weren't greeting him (which is actually rather justified as he blew up his classmates the first time he enters class).
  • In-Series Nickname: "Chaos Creeper"
  • In the Hood: Oddly enough, his hood makes him look like as if he's wearing a visor while the rest of his face is perfectly visible. What's weirder is the fact that he still looks like this while upside down.
  • Keet: He's incredibly energetic and loves playing games, much to Shaoron's annoyance.
  • Mad Bomber: He's known as a crazy war freak who shows no mercy even to his friends. He's also associated with explosives, having various kinds of them in his possession.
  • Meaningful Name: His last name is German for "Bomb", and he's really good at handling bombs.
  • No Social Skills: Being The Dreaded aside, Zom can be really awkward and outright bad at socializing. The highlight of chapter 69 is him struggling to have a conversation with Roboro. Doesn't help that Roboro isn't very sociable either.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: You just know things have gone wrong when the Only Sane Man role goes to Zom.
  • Tranquil Fury: In the extras for chapter 60, Cino points out that contrary to what everyone else thinks, Zom is far from the crazy berserker that he pretended to be in the actual chapter when he is angry. Instead he just becomes really cold and menacing. Zom is embarrassed by this for some reason.

Butamingo

Zom's familiar, a weird creature that seems to be a mix between a flamingo and a pig.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": Zom never bothered giving it a name and just refers to it by its species.
  • Breath Weapon: Can shoot beams from both of its mouths.
  • Mix-and-Match Critter: The Butamingo's appearance is rather confusing. It appears as a horned flamingo but with a curled neck resembling a pig's tail, four short legs, and a large body with a horned pig face at the back side of it. A good portion of chapter 103 had people debating on whether it is a pig or a flamingo (which seemed to be happening for a long time in-universe as the debate still happened by the time everyone starts wearing warmer uniforms) until it is revealed to be a mix of both.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Looks rather crudely-drawn compared to everything else in the manga. The pig face in particular is just made up of three rounded squares forming its snout and eyes.

    Führer Gruppen (Unmarked Spoilers)

Führer Gruppen

Inherited Magic: Suspicious Minds

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_20210125_144022.JPG
The founder of "Our Battler" who forces both Shaoron and Utsu to join his club. Originally serving as the battler's president, he announced his withdrawal from Our Battler in chapter 84 and formed a new one in the succeeding chapter, now competing against Shaoron and the others on who gets to be legalized first.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Whether or not his bloodline ability affects one's physical attributes. During a flashback in chapter 95, after Gruppen used his ability on Cino, the latter ended up beating the crap out of three senior students even though past chapters indicate that he normally doesn't seem to have the strength to do so.
  • The Antagonist: Ends up becoming this after he left Our Battler in chapter 84 and announced the formation of New Our Battler afterwards.
  • Hidden Depths: For someone with a big body, Gruppen has a really small appetite. The extras for chapter 34 show him struggling to finish a small-sized beef bowl.
  • In-Universe Nickname: He is called "Chief" by Shoppi.
  • Karma Houdini: He somehow manages to get away with his schemes to bring the old Our Battler down without facing any consequences for his actions whatsoever. Most of the time those consequences fall on Emile instead.
  • Large and in Charge: He is the president of "Our Battler", very tall and intimidating.
  • Last-Name Basis: Everyone refers to him as "Gruppen".
  • Manipulative Bastard: His bloodline gives him the ability to manipulate people's minds and bring out a feeling of hatred against others. This usually causes people to act violently towards each other.
    • He also managed to woo Shaoron into joining his battler using lip service, although Shoppi points out that nobody has ever fall for Gruppen's words before, implying that Shaoron was just that gullible.
  • Meaningful Name: His name is derived from Gruppenführer, "Group leader" in German, fitting his position as the president.
  • Mistaken Identity:
    • Due to how intimidating he is, he gets mistaken for a member of the student council which is partially how Shaoron and Utsu ended up joining his battler.
    • When they first met, Paint mistook him for Sabnock.
  • Perpetual Smiler: He's usually seen smiling in most of his appearances.
  • Scary Shiny Glasses: He has one which emphasizes his intimidating nature.
  • Violence is the Only Option: He loves the idea of violence and believes that it is the best way to solve any problem. He often uses his bloodline magic to manipulate people into resorting to violence as well.

    Shoppi Ironie

Shoppi Ironie

Inherited Magic: Hacking

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shp.png
A member of Our Battler who usually sleeps and lazes around in the club room.
  • Black Bead Eyes: His eyes are just two black circles with additional straight lines to signify his bored expression.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Implied to be this. Shoppi can't seem to bother with doing a majority of things. However, if Cino's recollection of their time as freshmen is any indication, Shoppi appears to be a very skilled demon and started school with at least Rank 2.
  • Cool Helmet: He wears a purple helmet with goggles.
  • The Gadfly: He seems to have taken a liking in provoking Shaoron and seeing him suffer. When Shaoron struggles with pulling the weeds and nearly gets eaten, Shoppi's answer is to continue watching while snacking.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Behind his twisted and sarcastic personality, Shoppi is a huge Otaku, much to everyone's surprise.
    • He's also an Animal Lover, as shown in chapters 39 to 41 which focus on him bonding with a demonic cat beast.
  • Lazy Bum: He finds most things extremely bothersome. He spends most of his time either sleeping or lazing around in the club room, letting Shaoron or other members do most of the work.
  • Meaningful Name: His last name means "Irony".
  • Money Dumb: Shoppi is absolutely horrible at handling money. It's clearly shown in chapter 61 that he has a gambling addiction. Chapter 74 gives us a glance at Shoppi's awful spending habit.
  • Otaku: As mentioned above, he is this. He's particularly good at karaoke.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Downplayed. His default expression is a bored/annoyed face like the one pictured.
  • Playful Hacker: His bloodline ability allows him to manipulate magic tools from afar and steal any kind of information from them. While this ability can very much be used for actual evil purposes, Shoppi just uses it for his own amusement, such as getting dirt on people from their Hellphones.
  • Spell My Name With An S: His name can be written as "Syoppi".
  • Those Two Guys: From chapter 10 onwards, he can be mostly seen together with fellow member Cino.
  • Troll: Makes fun of people when he can.

    Cino Gauner

Cino Gauner

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cno.png
A prankish, manipulative second year student and member of Our Battler.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Cino might seem like an average nerd, but behind his quirky, cheerful façade is a black-hearted trickster with a plethora of mischievous tricks up his sleeves. Expect him to manipulate, provoke, and deceive his allies and opponents alike just to reach his own goals.
  • The Gadfly: Takes this even further than Shoppi. Seeing people getting provoked by his tricks and pranks is pure entertainment for him.
  • Genki Guy: He's very enthusiastic, especially when meeting new people and seeing new things.
  • Latex Perfection: Being a Master of Disguise as mentioned below, he masters the spell of appearance change, and is able to perfectly impersonate anyone, such as when he impersonated Tonton in chapter 125.
  • Master of Disguise: A part of his trickster nature. He can perfectly disguise himself as practically anyone.
  • Meaningful Name: His last name in German roughly means "Trickster", definitely fitting his behavior.
  • Mood-Swinger: Shaoron points out that Cino tends to change his expressions spontaneously. Given his trickster nature, this may be an Invoked Trope.
  • Opaque Nerd Glasses: He wears a pair of large coke-bottle glasses that hides his eyes.
  • The Prankster: He'll gladly pull pranks at literally anyone regardless of who they are, just because he can and it amuses him.
  • Those Two Guys: He is usually seen together with Shoppi in most of his appearances.

Peperon

Cino's familiar, a blue owl-like creature.
  • Sleepyhead: Peperon tends to fall asleep at random times. It is revealed that Peperon is a nocturnal creature just like owls in the human world, but is constantly summoned by Cino at daytime, resulting in a messy sleep cycle.
  • Uncatty Resemblance: Has feathers the same color as Cino's hair and eyes resembling his glasses.

    Roboro Klein

Roboro Klein

Inherited Magic: Heavenly Voice

A recent newcomer of Our Battler who tries to push the other members to be more disciplined in the hopes of getting their battler legalized by the student council.
  • The Ace: He's really good at doing practically anything thanks to his hardworking attitude.
  • All the Other Reindeer: Played With. While the other students never outright hated him, his ridiculously high expectations and stoic personality makes it hard for others to approach him. It ends up making him feel lonely.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Roboro really idolizes Shinigamu, and has fantasies about being together like a couple. Roboro is perfectly aware that Shinigamu is a guy.
  • Cool Mask: He wears a paper mask with the character 天 (read "ten") drawn over it.
  • Covert Pervert: Behind his stoic façade, Roboro is rather perverted. In chapter 74, he ended up letting Shoppi keep the computer he bought using Our Battler's funds after being told that it can be used to watch Ecchi videos in high quality.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Mostly Played for Laughs. He seems to get really envious when Shinigamu gets close to another person. This gets exaggerated in chapter 100, where Roboro went as far as trying to murder Pikto (who Shinigamu is a fan of). However, with the reveal that the events of the chapter were all in Utsu's head, it is unclear whether or not Roboro would actually go that far.
  • Determinator: He simply refuses to give up on making Our Battler good enough to be legalized by the student council, no matter how much of a mess their current state is.
  • Expressive Accessory: The 天 on his mask tends to deform based on his mood (e.g. becoming really straight and forming a frowny face when he's angry, becoming all squiggly when he's smitten, etc.)
  • Height Angst: He's incredibly short, barely reaching Shaoron's chest. When he first appeared, everyone mistook him for a lost child.
  • Meaningful Name: His last name means "Small" in German, referring to his short stature.
  • No Social Skills: He has trouble understanding others, making it difficult for him to socialize. It doesn't help that he's very stoic to begin with.
  • Pint-Size Powerhouse: Despite his small body, he is incredibly strong and agile. He even managed to throw Utsu when he got mad.
  • Serious Business: Bodybuilding. While he may not look like someone who actually does it at first glance, he's actually very passionate about it. He can go on for hours talking about good bodybuilding techniques, as shown in chapter 69.
  • The Stoic: This is one of his most notable trait, acting very standoffish towards other people, especially those who annoy him (i.e. almost everyone in Our Battler).
  • Telepathy: His bloodline ability can be considered as this to some degree. He can remotely transmit his voice to the minds of his targets. However, this ability is one-sided; he can't hear the thoughts of his targets whatsoever. In addition, his mana affects how far he can transmit his voice as well as the amount of targets who can hear him.

Everyday Battler

A battler that has the intention of making everyday life in Babyls more exciting. The battler's overall theme, as well as the members, are based on the Japanese Let's Play group Nichijo Gumi.
    Paint

Paint

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_20210125_143951.JPG
A second-year member of Everyday Battler and a close friend of Roboro's. He first appeared battler hunting for Roboro (who has trouble fitting in), leading him to Our Battler.
  • Catchphrase: "On My Way!".
  • Chuunibyou: He used to be this during his first year, being obsessed with darkness and blood pacts. It ended up giving his classmates a bad first impression of him and making him an outcast.
  • Cool Big Bro: While not his actual older brother, he cares a lot for Roboro and wants him to have the best school life.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: He has golden hair and is overall a very nice and caring guy.
  • Motifs: He's particularly associated with the character ぺ (read "pe"). It appears on his hoodie, his shoes, and even his tail is shaped like it.
  • No Indoor Voice: His voice is loud enough to shatter glass windows. It is unclear whether this is his bloodline ability, but he mentioned that all the members of his family are like this.
  • Recruited from the Gutter: It is revealed that Paint used to be an outcast at school until he was invited by three kind demons to join their battler. This is the reason why Paint wanted to find Roboro a suitable battler for him, as he has a hard time making friends.
  • Self-Applied Nickname: In his first year, he refers to himself as "Dark Paint".

    Shinigamu Tod (Minor Spoilers)

Shinigamu Tod

A cute second-year student and member of Everyday Battler.
  • The Gadfly: Shinigamu seems to like teasing Paint a lot. He also never bothered telling Cino (who instantly had a crush on him the first time they met) his real gender because he finds it funny.
  • Ironic Name: For someone named after the Shinigami and having a surname that literally means "Death", Shinigamu seems rather harmless.
  • Mistaken for Romance: Got mistaken for Paint's girlfriend by Shaoron upon first meeting.
  • Unsettling Gender-Reveal: Shinigamu is male, but he looks and acts very feminine that one might confuse him for a girl. To say that Shaoron was surprised to learn about this is an understatement. This is averted with Utsu, however, as he immediately knew Shinigamu was a guy the first time they met.

Other Characters

    Rader

Rader

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_20210125_144439.JPG
A mysterious part-time lecturer at Babyls who also acts as advisor for the Athletics Battler. He is based on the Japanese Let's Play YouTuber of the same name.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When he first appeared, he can be seen chasing Zom, implying that he wants to do something bad to him. It turns out he just wants to get Zom into joining the Athletics Battler.
  • Black Bead Eyes: His eyes are just simple spheres, although the color is a shade of blue instead of black.
  • The Dreaded: Much like Professor Balam, he's rather infamous among students. This is mostly an exaggeration due to his emotionless expression. He's actually not as sadistic as he seems.
  • Noodle Incident: He was covered in blood when he first appeared. The blood is his own; this is a result of constantly getting injured after going through the Athletics Battler's obstacle course.
  • Spell My Name With An S: His real-life counterpart had confirmed that his name is written as "Rader" in English. However, there are some people who write his name as "Radda", following the literal romanization of his Japanese name ( らっだぁ).

    ??? (Unmarked Spoilers)

New Our Battler

A new battler formed by Gruppen with the intention of replacing the old Our Battler as he deemed the members too incompetent to fulfill their goals.

Emile M. Orion

Inherited Magic: Information Crossroad

One of the members of New Our Battler. A mysterious third-year student who claims to be a "master of wisdom".
  • Butt-Monkey: Ended up becoming a big one. He tends to become the subject of ridicule by people, especially the members of the old Our Battler.
  • The Dragon: He seems to be really close to Gruppen, somewhat acting like a right-hand man to him.
  • Epic Fail: His first encounter with the members of the old Our Battler. When he tried to attack them using magic, he ended up summoning some devil bananas and a packet of sandwich biscuits instead. He gets beaten up afterwards.
  • Mysterious Middle Initial: The "M" in his full name. It is revealed in chapter 96 that it actually stands for "Mandala".
  • Odd Name Out: Of all the original characters in this manga that has a known surname, he is the only one whose surname is based on a constellation (although Orion in German is just "Orion" so technically his name is still in line with the others...).
  • Prophet Eyes: His eyes are blank white with no visible pupils.
  • Spell Book: Emile's bloodline allows him to summon multiple books containing all kinds of magic mastered by every member of the Orion family throughout generations. It is implied that any new magic that he learns will be magically recorded in said books as well.

Pikto

A suave second-year member of New Our Battler as well as Shoppi and Cino's classmate. He's based on the Japanese Let's Play YouTuber Pikto House.
  • Hidden Depths: When he first appeared, he looked very outgoing and can easily get people's attention. However, in class, he actually rarely talks to people and often ends up alone.
  • The Rival: To Utsu. Having a handsome face and bright personality, Pikto can easily get all the ladies' attention, which is practically Utsu's purpose as an incubus.
