Team Clover. Left to right to top - Itsuka Kendou, Melissa Shield, Izuku Midoriya, Ochako Uraraka, and Nejire Hadou

The main protagonists of the story, they are a group of middle school students united by All Might to begin training for UA High School. Once they got to UA, their bonds grew only stronger than before, whether through their bonds or through more romantic means.

  • Adaptational Badass: All across the board. Izuku is given a quirk here, Spark, that allows him to generate lightning from his hands; Itsuka, meanwhile, ends up receiving One for All; Ochako, while not gaining any significant changes, is being trained as a stealth hero by Himiko Toga, and her training at the Kendou Dojo means that she's become a rather deadly hand-to-hand combatant; and Melissa, probably the biggest example of these along the group, becomes a pro hero in her own right.
    • Nejire, on the other hand, is an inverted example - while she's still powerful, her Age Lift means that she still has a lot of training to do.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: In general, Itsuka has few to no interactions with Izuku and Ochako in canon, whereas here, she is their closest friend and love interest. Izuku and Ochako also are significantly closer than in canon, having grown up together and thus, are much more joined at the hip. Itsuka and Nejire, meanwhile, were more Friendly Rivals whereas here they have a subtle case of Belligerent Sexual Tension, and Melissa was more friends to Izuku and Ochako than anything, whereas here she has a crush on both of them.
  • Anywhere but Their Lips: Before they got together, Itsuka tended to give Izuku and Ochako 'friend smooches', as explained to Eri, where she grew a habit of kissing their cheeks, both before and after their match with Katsuki. This eventually gives away to more natural kisses when they got together.
  • Body Motifs:
    • All five of them share a motif with their hands using their powers/skills - Itsuka, of course, has Giant Hands of Doom as her quirk, Ochako's fingers have the pads to help her float things, Izuku's destructive quirk generates out of his palms and Nejire can blast out spiralling blasts from her hands. Melissa, while not having any power, is a skilled inventor able to create anything she can get her hands on.
    • Played for Laughs, but all of them are into each other's butts.
    Izuku: I touched Itsuka's butt!
    Ochako: I touched Deku's butt!
Itsuka: I wanna touch both your butts!
Nejire: Why hasn't anyone touched my butt?!
Melissa: I totally had a sexy dream about Izuku!
  • Chick Magnet: Both Izuku and Ochako, humorously. Izuku, on one hand, has the attentions of Ochako, Itsuka, Nejire, Himiko, Camie and Melissa, with both Setsuna and Yui once commenting on his attractiveness, and even Pony mentions at one point staring at his butt. Ochako, on the other hand, also has Izuku and Itsuka, but Himiko has also made it clear that she views her as attractive, Yui has taken her own chances to check her out, and Melissa becomes flustered when Ochako accidentally charms her.
  • Covert Pervert: All four of them try to hide their attraction to each other, but they all definitely struggle. Itsuka, for her part, has on more than one occasion oogled Izuku while he's dressed down, both girls saw Izuku's ... er ... morning problems after waking up in the same bed, Ochako has been noted to blatantly check out Itsuka's butt whenever she can, and both Big Damn Kisses got out of hand incredibly fast, with Itsuka and Ochako immediately making out the moment their lips touched and Izuku and Ochako's kiss getting so out of hand Ochako unintentionally grabbed a handful of his butt in their passion. As for Melissa, both Izuku and Ochako are guilty of checking out her behind on occasions, something that Melissa is somewhat aware of and in fact doesn't mind at all. All in all, innocent cinnamon rolls, these four are not.
  • Everyone Can See It: Everyone - from their parents to their friends, to the teachers to even some villains - can see the romantic tension building between Izuku, Ochako and Itsuka.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: While they were always close, the Trio's friendship is solidified as this during the USJ, after Hood nearly beats Izuku to death. From there on, they become nearly inseparable, and the romantic tension between them also begins growing.
  • Make-Out Kids: Once their feelings begin getting addressed, Izuku, Ochako and Itsuka suddenly find themselves having a hard time keeping their hands (and lips) off of each other.
  • Official Couple: A throuple example. Chapter 36 finally ends with their confessing their feelings for one another, and deciding to have a go at a three way relationship.
  • Polyamory: All four of them are attracted to each other, with the Flash Forward confirming that it will end with marriage.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Initially, a lot of the drama Izuku, Ochako and Itsuka faced was because they insisted on keeping their feelings for each other to themselves, causing themselves and each other a lot of grief. After they have their Relationship Upgrade, they go out of their way to avert this, being more open and communicative so as not to cause any misunderstandings.
  • Unresolved Sexual Tension: Their feelings for each other pretty much started growing from the day they all met, and the USJ only increases these feelings after Itsuka and Ochako kiss. From there, Itsuka is then forced to come to realize her attraction for both her friends, while Ochako struggles to figure out her own feelings in between her insecurity over her body, and Izuku tries to understand his own complicated feelings between them and Nejire. By the Clover Rising arc, this finally gets addressed, and Izuku, Ochako and Itsuka decide to start going steady.
    • After this, Izuku, Ochako and Itsuka face having this trope with Nejire - Itsuka acknowledges her own attraction to Nejire after their kiss, Ochako realizes that she needs to get to know Nejire better as well, and Izuku is at least aware that the relationship between himself and Nejire isn't entirely platonic. What they don't realize, however, is that Melissa is beginning to have feelings for them as well, and it's implied that, at least on Izuku's end, that a mutual crush may be forming as well, much to Ochako and Itsuka's concern.

    Izuku Midoriya

Izuku Midoriya — Spark

Quirk: Spark

Elements: Lightning, Ice

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/izuku_43.png

The only boy in the trio, Izuku Midoriya is the childhood friend of Ochako. He originally dreamed of being a hero, but when his Quirk first manifested and it resulted in him hurting his mother and Bakugo, he gave up on his dream until a chance encounter with All Might years later. His Quirk, "Spark", lets him shoot lightning from his hands.

  • Accidental Pervert: Walks into the bathroom half-asleep and distracted to brush his teeth - and only becomes aware of Melissa being behind him, wrapped up in a towel and nothing else, until she calls for his attention. He's utterly mortified about it afterwards.
  • Achilles' Heel: His quirk is powerful, but naturally injures his arms from the lightning blows. When he unlocks the ice portion of the quirk, it is revealed he also has a case of cellular degeneration.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Izuku's Traumatic Super Power Awakening scarred him so badly, he pretty much give up on his dream of being a hero. Being repeatedly called a villain thanks to Bakugo's bullying only made it worse.
  • Adaptational Badass: Thanks to being born with a Quirk in this version of the story, Spark, he's able to blast bursts of lightning out of his hands. As well, instead of coming in seventh place during the entrance exam, he placed fifth overall.
  • Adaptational Name Change: From the Flash Forward, it's revealed that Izuku's Hero name is 'Spark'.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Izuku has a quirk in this fic, Spark, unlike canon where he is initially Quirkless before getting One For All.
  • All-Loving Hero: As per canon, he wants to save everyone he can, the same as his hero All Might. He cites Itsuka as one of his inspirations as well.
  • Alone with the Psycho: Alone with the Psychos, more like, but Izuku ends up as this when he sends Pony and Yosetsu to save Aizawa and get him to safety, leaving Izuku alone against Nine, Slice, Chimera, Mummy and Hood.
  • Amazon Chaser: His infatuation with Ochako and Itsuka, as well as seeing Nejire's abs on the beach during their date, make it pretty clear what Izuku's type is.
  • Badass in Distress: Ends up fighting against Hood during the USJ invasion, and very quickly needs help from Ochako and Itsuka when he's nearly beaten to death.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: His Spark quirk, giving him the ability to generate blasts of lightning, is very destructive and its first use injured Katsuki and Inko, but Izuku is an All-Loving Hero working hard to overcome the mental barriers of his quirk and use it safely.
  • The Bait: Izuku serves as this during the Tag game, wearing the 10 million headband in order to lure the other teams away from his team' points.
  • Batman Gambit: This is essentially both Izuku's plans for the second round of the sports festival:
    • His first plan has Izuku running around with the 10,000,000 points to get everyone's attention and chase them, while the rest of his team sneaks around, snabs other points, and brings them to Ochako so that they could pass through to the next round even without their massive amount of points. This works almost effortlessly, with everyone paying little attention to their or Itsuka's teams in favour of going after Izuku's points. The only one who isn't fooled is Itsuka, who sends Nejire to go and find Ochako and take her points.
    • When Ochako's points get snabbed, however, and brings them down to zero, Izuku launches into their backup plan: engineering an accident that would sent him launching towards Ochako, and when they crashed together, he gave her the 10,000,000 points as they crashed into a nearby pond, allowing them to use their wet hair to cover the headbands and disguise that there was a switch. And naturally, when Shouto, Monoma and Shinsou arrive, they're too focused on Izuku to realize there was a switch, and once they do, the game ends with Izuku's team the victors.
  • Birds of a Feather: Part of the reason why he's such good friends with Ochako is because of their mutual love of heroes, and over the fact they were both outcasts from their school.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: A full year of training with All Might means that he's quite buff, capable of using his Quirk to destroy robots, and thanks to training at the Kendou dojo is more than capable of handling himself. He's also quite sensitive and prone to crying when overwhelmed with emotion.
  • Bullying a Dragon:
    • Izuku decides is a good idea to push Nine's Berserk Button and call him weak. This prompts Nine to order Hood to kill him at that moment.
    • In order to distract Mei while Ochako shuts down the force field drone protecting her during their match, Izuku decides to smash her Berserk Button and says that the Full Gauntlet alone is cooler than all of Mei's inventions together. It works, painfully well.
  • The Call Knows Where You Live: All For One's musings during a flashback reveal that Izuku was supposed to be the ninth bearer of One for All, but due to the butterfly effect, All Might chose Itsuka before him. Still, this does not stop All Might from meeting Izuku and ultimately including him in on the secret anyway - Izuku is still involved in One for All's legacy, but as a supporting character rather than The Chosen One.
  • Character Development:
    • At first, Izuku was terrified of his quirk and the potential damage it could do to others and himself. Throughout the Sports Festival arc, however, Izuku grows frustrated with his lack of control over his quirk, and the match with Katsuki has him finally grow creative with it. Even though he discovered the Cast from Hit Points potentially fatal side effects of overusing his quirk, Izuku still leaves the sports festival far more confident in his quirk.
    • On a subtler note, while Izuku expressed fear in confronting his feelings for both Ochako and Itsuka, he eventually grew frustrated with his own cowardice, and ends up taking several levels in confidence by simply confronting both girls with his issues. This ends up climaxing when he finally makes a move on Ochako after years of Unresolved Sexual Tension, which she eagerly reciprocates.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Knew Ochako since they were five years old, and as the epilogue shows, they'll get married with Itsuka and adopt Eri.
  • Chivalrous Pervert:
    • He's a teenage guy, after all, so he's not immune from noticing pretty girls, and has an especially hard time dealing with Nejire during their date, as she had chosen to wear a fairly revealing bikini. However, Izuku is at least chivalrous enough to try and stop himself from looking, and makes it clear that he does not want to overstep his boundaries and make Nejire uncomfortable.
    • His first reaction to realizing that he is fantasizing about Ochako's thighs is to headbutt the nearest wall to shake the feelings out of him. And while his First Kiss with her goes off the rails relatively quickly, he at first keeps the kiss soft and relaxing instead of immediately jumping into making out.
    • He's also very quick to lose himself during his and Itsuka's Big Damn Kiss, both of them quickly giving into their attraction for each other to make out and grope at each other. He's embarrassed once things calm down.
    • He's certainly nervous about sharing a bed with Nejire during their internship, and eventually summons the courage to get in, but he makes it clear that he's more uncomfortable with the thought of doing something with Nejire without his girlfriends' knowledge than doing something exciting with Nejire.
  • Clark Kent Outfit: His normal clothes are rather deceptive about how muscular he's gotten after training. When he takes off his shirt after accidentally setting himself on fire and jumping into the ocean, both Itsuka and Ochako wonder how he was able to hide how buff he was while at the same time having a rather hard time looking away.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Unknowingly attracted Ochako, Itsuka and Nejire to him just out of sheer kindness.
  • Combo Platter Powers: Downplayed, but Izuku's quirk gives him the ability to absorb different elements and use them as he sees fit. So far, he's only taken on Lightning and Ice powers, with Izuku using the lightning as an offensive attack and a way to launch himself across distances, and ice to restrain his enemies.
  • Determinator: During his battle with Hood, Izuku is beaten within an inch of his life, but keeps going despite his injuries, and even manages to save All Might from Nine in the villain's last ditch effort to kill the hero.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Seems to be a recurring habit for him:
    • Izuku realizes too late that he didn't had a plan after Mezo and Pony saved Aizawa from the Nomu. Not only he doesn't have any way to restrain the villains surrounding him, he is outmatched on four to one.
    • During the Sports Festival, he didn't thought what would happen upon shooting a lightning blast, point-blank against the ground with his and Ochako's gravity off. The result? Both nearly launch themselves into orbit.
    • Izuku goes hard against Bakugou after he injures Ochako, to the point that he unlocks an unknown aspect of his quirk. On the other hand, his injuries end up having him and Ochako removed from the Sports Festival. Nejire lampshades this one, pointing out that Izuku could have simply let Midnight disqualify Bakugou as she intended, and there might have still been a chance to get to the final round.
  • Disabled in the Adaptation: It is revealed that Izuku's quirk causes him to have a case of cellular degeneration when he overuses it for the first time, similar to the side effects Nine has with his own quirk - it's theorized by Recovery Girl that, should they not get a handle on this, Izuku's quirk could end up killing him.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: When he sees Nejire in a bikini, Izuku has to force himself not to look at her chest or butt at all, screaming at himself repeatedly when his eyes choose to wander.
  • Dork Knight: A Hero-Worshipper who Cannot Talk to Women, and later becomes one of the driving forces pushing the Villain Consortium back during the USJ invasion.
  • Emotional Powers: Izuku's Quirk is clearly connected to emotions, which means that whenever he is too insecure or anxious over something, specially his unresolved feelings over Ochako and Itsuka, he can't properly access it. Which is why he decides to handle this matter once and for all before his match with Bakugo.
  • Even the Loving Hero Has Hated Ones: While Izuku is kind and loving to pretty much everyone, there is one person he seems to feel nothing but hatred for: Nine. After the villain tried to kill his friends, teachers and left him near death after the USJ, Izuku and him exchange murderous death glares, making sure that the next time they meet, one will destroy the other.
  • First Love: Technically serves as this to Ochako and Itsuka - for Ochako, they've been each other's Only Friend for all their lives, with their parents clearly seeing the mutual attraction between them; and for Itsuka, she herself mentions never having feelings for any of her classmates back in middle school, and it's clear from their hangout during Chapter 5 that they become, over the course of their hanging out in the garage, mutually infatuated with each other, if their smiles at the end of the night say anything.
  • Glass Cannon: His quirk is very strong, but he is not. One full blast of lightning is usually enough to handicap Izuku for the remainder of the day, and his battle with Hood ends with him being beaten within an inch of his life. Much of Izuku's development is to grow beyond this.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Is probably one of the more heroic and kind characters, but when Hood is crushing Ochako to death during the USJ, he doesn't hesitate to burn a hole right through his chest, with Hood only surviving due to his regeneration abilities.
  • Hammerspace: Much like canon, Izuku has the uncanny abilitiy to pull out one of his notebooks from anywhere. So far, only Ochako shows no suprise when he does this, apparently having gotten used to him pulling things out of nowhere.
  • Harmless Freezing: Notably Played With. It's noted that after he freezes Katsuki in a block of ice that he felt a prickling feeling in his hand, along with numbness. Both of these, of course, symptoms of frostbite. However, his ice abilities seem to have more of a negative impact on him than the people he uses it on.
  • Heroic BSoD: Was in this for a long time after accidentally injuring Katsuki and his mother with his Quirk, one that he lived in for years despite Ochako's best efforts to convince him that he really did want to become a hero deep down. It took All Might setting him on the right path for Izuku to shake himself out of this.
  • I Can't Believe A Girl Like You Would Notice Me: Years of having him being openly bullied by most of his classmates, he clearly doesn't consider himself worthy of any girl's affections, with Izuku trying to mentally dismiss Nejire's more flirtatious actions towards him as him just misinterpreting. Not to mention his own insecurities around Ochako and Itsuka's budding relationship.
  • Insecure Love Interest: To all three of his implied love interests. His dream in Chapter 23 has this out in full force - he's afraid of being a Third Wheel to Itsuka and Ochako, and that they were much better off without him, and worse, that they resent him for forcing them to hang out with him all the time. For Nejire, on the other hand, he's very insecure at how he freezes up around her, and seems afraid that she might consider herself the Third Wheel when it comes to his relationships with her, Ochako and Itsuka.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Is shown to be this in the future, being fast enough to fly across the street in an instant and take out several villains at once.
  • Literally Loving Thy Neighbor: Ochako, Izuku's First Love, is literally his next door neighbor.
  • Logical Weakness: His fear of using his Quirk. It cost him the battle trial, as Momo pointed out, since he was unwilling to hurt Ochako and Itsuka with it, and thus handicapped himself and Nejire's team. And at the USJ, not using it against Hood meant that he wasn't able to properly defend himself, and thus got the utter hell beaten out of him.
  • Luminescent Blush: Tends to turn really red in the face when pretty girls like Itsuka, Setsuna or Nejire get up in his face. And unfortunately for him, he tends to get smack dab in the middle of them, as shown during the beginning of Chapter 19 when he wake up to Itsuka and Ochako snuggling him, prompting him to pretty much explode into a red, blushing mess.
  • Messy Hair: A trait he retains from canon. Nejire at one point wonders what it would be like to touch it, and Izuku's Big Damn Kiss with Ochako has her repeatedly running her hand through it.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Downplayed - while he's a cute looking guy, most girls only really consider him to be okay looking, like Setsuna and Yui, and have other interest in guys. To Ochako and Itsuka, however, Izuku's apparently a dreamboat, and any state of undress or display of his Heroic Build will cause both girls to drool over him.
  • Nice Guy: Probably the nicest guy in Class 1A.
  • "No More Holding Back" Speech. An inner monologue example. After getting some pep talk from his mother and realizing that he will not be able to win his fight against Bakugo until he get a hand over his feelings, Izuku decides to pull Itsuka and Ochako aside and settle down the issue over their emotions for good.
  • Oblivious to Love: As far as he's aware, Ochako and Itsuka are just his friends, and Nejire's just friendly. He has no idea about their developing feelings for him. With that said, though, he does have limits when it comes to something obviously staring at him in the face - when Nejire tells him that she was happy he checked her out, it's pretty clear that he understands the implications, and is, on some note, aware that the feelings he has for her aren't entirely platonic.
  • Otaku: Even despite his Heroic BSoD, Izuku is still a massive Hero nerd, especially for All Might, and his room is still plastered from wall to wall with All Might's merchandise.
  • Power Incontinence: Due to not having used his quirk in over ten years, Izuku has a hard time understanding how it works and how to safely use it, usually requiring the use of the Full Gauntlet to limit the outpour of it. Come the Sports Festival arc, he receives another complication in his cellular degeneration.
  • Precision F-Strike: During the Festival, Izuku, who is already in a bad mood due to his unresolved feelings over Ochako and Itsuka, not mention his Quirk not working during his first match, has enough of Bakugo interrupting him on the way to his talk with the girls, when the explosive blonde demands answers over why he didn't used his Quirk during the match, so Izuku promptly tell his bully to "fuck off", leaving even Bakugo shocked.
  • Serious Business: Izuku takes his analysis dead seriously. He does not take well when people leave information out of his research about Quirks. When he finds out Tenya wasn't completely honest about his speed limit, he gets so upset, Ochako needs to talk him out of using idea of sending him spiders in the mail.
  • Scars Are Forever:
    • Using his quirk means that his hands are pretty much lined with faded red electrical scars.
    • After his battle with Hood, he ends up walking away with two facial scars, one on his cheek and the other across his forehead.
  • Skilled, but Naive: His Quirk is powerful, even when he doesn't really know how to use it besides its base setting, but his lack of social contact outside of his mother and Ochako for a decade leaves him unaware of how to properly read people.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: In a life or death situation, Izuku is one of the most reliable members of Class 1A, showing his Determinator skills either by fighting Itsuka in the battle trial or battling Hood during the USJ. Outside that, though? He's an utter dork.
  • Strong and Skilled: After over 10 months of cleaning Dagobah, as well martial arts training under Teko, Izuku is one of the physically strongest characters in Class 1-A.
  • Third Wheel: Katsuki accuses Izuku of being this to Itsuka and Ochako, pointing out that they were growing closer and would soon begin to push him away. While this initially doesn't seem to affect Izuku too much, it's later shown that the comment hit a bit closer to home than he expected, experiencing dreams of Itsuka and Ochako wanting to get away from him in favour of each other, and he notices their relative closeness in real life, giving him plenty of insecurities to feel nervous over.
  • Trauma Button: He has two.
    • Previously, using his power forced him to experience flashbacks of the first horrible time that he used his quirk, injuring his mother and Katsuki, and thus, his quirk wouldn't activate because of his mental block. He takes steps to get over this with Tenko's help, but he still struggled with not imagining his mom or Katsuki when he used his quirk. He fully gets over this, however, when he gets in a fight with Hood at the USJ, being nearly killed and then forced to use the quirk against him to save Ochako's life.
    • Speaking of Hood, the near death experience Izuku had at his hands clearly traumatized Izuku. His fight with both Mirio and Katsuki had Izuku flashing between both boys and Hood's appearance, making it clear that the beast has become The Dreaded to Izuku, and any physical threat Izuku experiences will cause him to flashback to the beating he took at the Nomu's hands.
  • Traumatic Super Power Awakening: Izuku's Quirk manifested when Bakugo attempted to hurt Ochako, which caused a massive electric explosion that injured Katsuki, Inko and destroyed the park surrounding them. Despite Ochako's assurance that he is not a bad person because of, the incident led to Izuku completely give up on his dream to become a hero.
  • The Unchosen One: His not being the ninth bearer of One for All is an actual plot point here, in that it shows how much All For One has interfered in history by unintentionally starting a butterfly effect that ends with Izuku getting a quirk and Itsuka becoming the Torchbearer. However, Izuku still stands up as Nine's greatest enemy, and one of the leaders of his class.
  • Weak, but Skilled: In regards to his Quirk, Izuku is leagues behind his classmates mostly due to his fear of using his powers for years meaning that he doesn't really know how it works. Regardless, he's still a very good strategy, coming up with a scheme to get Pony, Yosetsu and himself out of the trap Nine's group set for them in the conflagration zone and back into the fray.
  • What Is This Feeling?: Izuku ends up having rather conflicting thoughts about Ochako during the sports festival. After their hug in the forest and landing in the pond, he's unable to shake away the weird feelings he has for her, and can't quite shake away the uneasy feelings he's having for her. This later extends to Itsuka, who he embraces for the first time and expresses similar feelings of happiness, and making it clear that Izuku is slowly realizing his feelings towards his two best friends.

    Ochako Uraraka

Ochako Uraraka — Uravity

Quirk: Zero Gravity

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ochaco_uraraka_current_hero_costume.png

Izuku's childhood friend and neighbor, Ochako wishes to be a hero to help her parents financially. Her Quirk, "Zero Gravity", lets her reduce the gravitational pull of anything she touches to zero

  • Adaptational Badass: Trained by both All Might and Teko Kendou, she's far tougher and stronger than she was in canon.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: She moved to Musutafu when she was young, and became Izuku's best friend after his incident with Katsuki. As such, she got as bullied by their classmates at Aldera Middle School as he did, which left her with a serious case of body issues due to the bullying she suffered. Downplayed in that she's still cheerful and energetic as in canon, simply with a slightly more pessimistic attitude.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: One of the main divergences of the fic is her moving to Musutafu and meeting Izuku when they were both children.
  • Adaptation Origin Connection: While in canon there's nothing to suggest her birth was anything weird, here it's ultimately revealed that Lady Nagant is Ochako's true biological mother.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Canon doesn't go too much into it but implies that she is straight since the only person she is shown having feelings for is Izuku. Here, as shown by the flash forward, she is bisexual and in a relationship with both him and Itsuka.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: A downplayed version in that she's still a Nice Girl, but she comes across as slightly more snarky and prone to anger than her canon counterpart. This is mostly due to the bullying she suffered in the past.
  • Affectionate Nickname: She tends to get these a lot from several different people. As in canon, she calls Izuku 'Deku', and he calls her 'Occhan' in the same way he calls Katsuki 'Kacchan'. Her father also calls her 'Chipmunk' due to her cheeks, Himiko refers to her as 'cute kohai', and Nagant at one point calls her 'baby girl'.
  • Ambiguously Bi: A rare example where the 'straight' part is the part that's ambiguous. So far, the only guy Ochako showed any romantic interest is Izuku, to the point he could be considered her Single-Target Sexuality. When it comes to girls? Not so much. So far, she has been flustered around Yui, Nejire, Himiko and of course, Itsuka.
  • Babies Ever After: The second Flash Forward confirms that Ochako is pregnant, with the girls debating how to tell Izuku.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Incredibly kind, but you do not want to make her angry at all. Izuku's all too used to her angry rants whenever he does something dangerous, and when she runs out of patience when he was sneaking around training, she nearly ends up in a fight with Itsuka when both girls meet under a miscommunication. As Aizawa lampshades during Chapter 21, she's very kind until someone pushes her a bit too far, such as Katsuki.
  • Character Development: The first Flash Forward shows that Ochako has little problem teasing Izuku with her body, indicating that she will eventually overcome her crippling self-image issues and become far more confident.
  • Chick Magnet: Curiously enough, she gets the most attention out of the three main characters, having drawn the attention of Yui, Himiko, Melissa, and of course, her love interests Izuku and Itsuka. Ironically, she has a bunch of self-image issues that make her unable to see herself as attractive.
  • Childhood Friends: Moved into Izuku's apartment when they were both five and nearly immediately bonded, and grew up together as each other's only friend.
  • Combo Platter Powers: Her Quirk is perfect match between Miwa and Taiyo's. The Extra Parent Conception also means she inherited traces of Nagant's Quirk factor as well.
  • Covert Pervert: Probably the biggest one of the group as a whole. After hers and Itsuka's Big Damn Kiss, several people note that Ochako can't help but check Itsuka out afterwards, she gets into a rather steamy kissing session with Himiko, her sports festival is filled with nothing but Unresolved Sexual Tension with Izuku that culminates in a Big Damn Kiss that has her grab his butt, and their confession has her rather angrily admitting that she's very attracted to them both.
  • Damsel in Distress: A discussed trope. In Chapter 44, Ochako notices that a lot of Izuku's development when it comes to his quirk tends to happen when Ochako is in danger - whether it be from Katsuki, the USJ, the Sports Festival, etc. It's also deconstructed, however, in that Izuku clearly doesn't like the implications of having to step up when Ochako is in danger, and would rather find another way to learn how to use his quirk that doesn't endanger her life.
  • Death Glare: The 'Danger Pout', as Izuku puts it. He and All Might seem to be the only ones who's really afraid of it.
  • Endearingly Dorky: Having grown up with Izuku as her Only Friend, she's about as dorky as he is, getting easily flustered when Himiko called her out for having feelings for Izuku and Ochako, and of course, having a more modest look in comparison to Itsuka and Nejire.
  • Extra Parent Conception: Specific wording implies, and later confirms that Lady Nagant is Ochako's biological mother, but due to Ochako's heavy resemblance to Miwa, it's made clear that her birth was an odd one, to the point her hair starts to become pink as she reaches puberty. Taiyo later clarifies that it was a specific procedure that allowed one of Miwa's eggs to be implanted and melded with one of Nagant's own.
  • First Love: She's the first of Izuku's two Foregone Conclusion wives he met, and it's clear that both of them are attracted to each other, even if they've never put any thoguht into it.
  • Girl Next Door: Is Izuku's next door neighbor as well as one of his two love interests.
  • Gravity Master: Her quirk lets her render anything she touches unaffected by gravity, although she does have her limits.
  • Hypocritical Humor: At one point, she's incensed to discover that Izuku has apparently sneaked a peek at Melissa's butt, planning to interrogate him about it later. When Melissa signs off, Ochako finds herself staring at her butt for once, and then realizes what she's doing, much to her mortification.
Okay, I'll have to interrogate Deku about checking out Melissa's ass, but … but I won't judge him too much.
  • Insecure Love Interest: To both Izuku and Itsuka:
    • She shows uncomfortableness over Izuku and Itsuka having a moment together in Chapter 9, although she is quick to feel guilty over it. As shown during Izuku's reactions to Nejire's … Nejire-ness, Ochako obviously feels insecure and awkward about him getting closer to her, but feels guilty over these feelings as she believes that, after years of just having her for company, Izuku deserves more than just her.
    • She is very conflicted about her closeness to Itsuka after their kiss, second guessing several interactions between them beforehand that may have had another undertone to it. To her, however, she doesn't dare consider the possibility of Itsuka harbouring romantic feelings for her, considering Itsuka to be beyond her league.
  • Lady Swears-a-Lot: When she gets angry, she tends to cuss up a storm. Izuku at one point reveals that she had once yelled every curse word in the book at him when he had jumped off a bridge to save a kid's toy. And during the entrance exam, battling against the zero-pointer, she ends up letting out a spiel of curse words that would make Bakugou blush.
  • Love Epiphany:
    • She's gradually going over one over the course of the Sports Festival arc with Izuku, sharing several moments with him that Ochako is unable to shake away or deny as just platonic when Itsuka calls her out on it.
    • Chapter 28 also seems to have Ochako begin to realize her feelings towards Itsuka after their second kiss, realizing that she recognized the jealousy Itsuka showed over her previous kiss with Himiko, and is shocked (but not disappointed) to have the thought of Itsuka possibly having feelings for her.
    • Chapter 35 has her finally realize her feelings for both of them following her Big Damn Kiss with Izuku, being unable to deny that her feelings for both of them go beyond platonic feelings, but is hesitant to make any moves due to her fear of being rejected and her own complicated feelings towards her own body.
  • Oblivious to Love: She clearly doesn't really understand her feelings for Izuku, considering them Like Brother and Sister while clearly unsure of why she was feeling jealous about Itsuka and Nejire getting closer to him.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Ochako launching herself onto orbit and being dragged across the skies by Mei's inventions is something Present Mic makes clear he will not let go for the audience.
  • Only Friend: Up until they both met Itsuka, Ochako was this to Izuku, and he to her. It's also mentioned that she didn't get along with the preschoolers in her own hometown, so this means that Izuku has probably been her only friend for years.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: Tends to slip into her Kansai accent when she gets seriously worked up. The confession has her completely slip up her accent and go on a rant about how hot Izuku and Itsuka are.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Ochako's fiery, kind and sweet, but any insults to her body or looks causes her to shrink in on herself and turn completely morose. The bullying she suffered for years means that she has serious body and self-esteem issues, and it's very difficult for others to try convincing her that she's attractive. Hell, Izuku and Itsuka have both had scenes where it's clear to her that they're attracted to her, but Ochako's lack of self-confidence means that she brushes these moments off.
  • Rescue Romance: Downplayed, but Izuku first uses his quirk to protect her from Katsuki when they were kids.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Ochako seems to have inherited most of her mother's looks — her skin complexion, hairstyle, and even the same blushed cheeks, but she also has her father's spiky hair and bangs, brown eyes and short and stubby eyebrows. She also shares her cheery personality with both of her parents. Later in the story, her hair begins changing to pink, giving her a resemblance to her bio-mom, Lady Nagant. Coincidentally, Nagant is shown having a similar short hairstyle to Ochako during this time as well, highlighting the similarities.
  • Taking the Bullet: Takes on a full Howitzer Impact for Izuku during their match, which gives her a fairly nasty burn and removes her from the arena.
  • Troll: She once sent spiders on a mail box to Bakugo because he pushed her into a puddle of mud.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Not yet, but it's stated more than a few times that Izuku's had to hold Ochako back from beating up their classmates from Alderah Junior High. And as shown during the showdown with Hood, when Izuku's life was in danger she didn't hesitate to run over to an opponent that obviously outclassed her to deliver a beatdown.

    Itsuka Kendou

Itsuka Kendou — Battle Fist

Quirks: Big Fist + One For All

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/itsuka_1.png

A girl Izuku meets through All Might, she is All Might's apprentice and the ninth inheritor of One for All. Her Quirk, "Big Fist", allows her to enlarge her hands, with their strength growing proportionally to their size.

  • Action Girl: The most straightfoward of the cast. Itsuka has trained from a very young age in hand-to-hand combat and various martial arts styles, not to mention her quirk gives her super strenght and all of this was before she received One for All.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: Zig-zagged, as canon doesn't go into her past, but in this story she gains All Might's attention before he meets Izuku, and becomes his successor for One for All and the Symbol of Peace. This version of Itsuka also has unknowing ties to the Shie Hassaikai through her grandfather.
  • Adaptational Badass: As a side-effect of getting One for All. Besides that, Itsuka actually manages to earn the top spot at the entrance exam, with over 86 total points.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Appears as early as Izuku starting to train on the beach, instead of being introduced during the Sports Festival arc.
  • Adaptational Origin Connection: Here her grandfather has ties to the Shie Hassaikai, and specific wording implies that she is now related to Kendo Rappa.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: In canon, she, Izuku and Ochako hardly interact, partially due to the fact they are all in different classes. Here, not only are all three of them in Class 1A, but she serves as their mutual love interest in addition to each other.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Canon remains silent over her sexuality, but here she is bisexual, showing some Ship Tease with both Izuku and Ochako.
  • Always Someone Better:
    • Mirio serves as this to her in terms of being successors for One for All - as Nighteye points out, Mirio is far more experienced, cleverer with his quirk than Itsuka's rather straightforward one, and has the training and power to take on One for All.
    • Shouto also shows himself to be this when they finally square off in the final round. In a one on one match, Itsuka can barely keep up with Shouto's ice quirk, being thrown around and slammed into various pieces of ice, making it clear that her Giant Hands of Doom are no match for Shouto's overwhelming power. It's only when Itsuka taps into One for All that she stands a chance, and in this case, it becomes interestingly inverted - in which Itsuka's speed and newfound strength easily overwhelms Shouto.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Zigzagged - in the Flash Forward where she's in a committed relationship with both Ochako and Izuku, but in the story proper, she shows obvious attraction for Izuku most of the time, up until Chapter 15, where she's the one who initiates The Big Damn Kiss with Ochako. Elaborated later on as Itsuka thinks it over by herself, acknowledging that she never really considered girls in a romantic light before, and wonders how much of the kiss was due to adrenaline and stress from almost dying. Chapter 22 has her addressing this in-universe, bringing up the possibility of her being bisexual or pansexual.
  • Awesome by Analysis: She's smart enough to come up with a viable strategy against Izuku and Nejire during the battle trial, even accounting for Izuku trying to separate them.
  • Badass Adorable: The ninth holder of One for All, who also probably holds the position of best female fighter of Class 1A, and a spunky and beautiful girl to boot. Both Izuku and Ochako are very quick to notice her good looks when meeting her.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Due to her upbringing and quirk, she's a martial artist in terms of fighting, being able to keep up with Todoroki on relatively even footing once they disregard their quirks and decide to go all out.
  • Beauty Equals Goodness: Sweet, kind, beautiful, attractive and cute (while occasionally being a Deadpan Snarker).
  • The Chosen One: As per being the successor of One for All.
  • Class Representative: She becomes Class 1A's rep, with Momo serving as her deputy vice representative.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl:
    • Shows shades of this during Setsuna and Yui's interacting with Izuku and Ochako, but this comes out in full force any time Nejire interacts with Izuku, tending to give her classmate a 'subtle' Death Glare while clenching her fists tight enough for the nails to cut her skin.
    • Izuku isn't the only one of her partners that can incur this reaction from Itsuka - when Ochako reveals that she kissed Himiko, Itsuka shows a surprising amount of bitterness and clear envy.
  • Cool Big Sis: Similar to canon, she acts as this to Class 1A, being their class representative and basically their leader.
  • Covert Pervert: She's not as bad as Setsuna or Yui, but she's shown that she isn't immune from noticing how attractive her training partners are, shown during Chapter 19 when she remembers both Izuku shirtless on the beach and her rather intense kiss with Ochako with slight shaking and a very red face. And upon looking at Izuku in a slightly more relaxed state after Setsuna and Yui brought up the possibility of her liking him, Itsuka has a hard time looking away, and cursing his Clark Kent Outfit.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She tends to throw out snarky and sarcastic comments when with Setsuna and Yui.
  • Determinator: The fight with Gran Torino consists of a complete Curb-Stomp Battle in his favor, but no matter what he does, Itsuka doesn't stop getting back up to fight. This earns her the older hero's respect.
  • Dude Magnet: Izuku's clearly attracted to her, and both Denki and Yosetsu have been mentioned having talked about finding her body attractive. The beach episode also had Tsuburaba and Tetsutetsu express attraction towards her as well. Unfortunately for them, the only guy Itsuka has eyes for is Izuku.
  • Fiery Redhead: Zigzagged - she has red, almost orange hair and is quite fearless during combat, but to Izuku and Ochako, she's a friendly and helpful Nice Girl.
  • Giant Hands of Doom: Her Quirk lets her grow her hands to gigantic size, and makes them stronger. Having One for All combined with her Quirk means that she's capable of destroying mountains, albeit with her being heavily injured from the attempt.
  • Grin of Audacity: Flashes two of these during her battle with Shouto in the finals of the sports festival, described as looking completely and utterly feral as she gets control over One for All.
  • Heir to the Dojo: Downplayed, but she was born and raised in her grandfather's dojo and is shown to be his proudest student - even if he doesn't go easy on her, and generally supports her plans to become a hero.
  • Heroic Fire Rescue: Ran into a burning building before the story to save a couple of children. This inspired All Might to name her his successor.
  • In-Series Nickname: Setsuna tends to refer to her as 'Ken'.
  • Love Epiphany: She had a rather delayed one ever since the attack on the USJ, and was pretty much thrust into it by Setsuna and Yui in Chapter 22, but Itsuka overhearing Izuku defending her from Sir Nighteye in Chapter 24 finally makes her admit to herself that she's fallen in love with him.
  • Mama Bear: She only found Eri for about a minute, but seeing her ragged and clearly frightened attire clearly stirs something protective in Itsuka, and she is very quick to wrap Eri up in a big hug and run away with her once she realizes that someone (heavily implied to be Overhaul) is coming.
  • Matchmaker Crush: Once she realizes that Izuku and Ochako are in love, Itsuka resolves to help get them together - while subtly trying not to cry, indicating that she's already beginning to crush on them both and doesn't even realize it.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Both Izuku and Ochako are quick to notice her good looks when they first meet her, and neither of them are immune from checking her out. Ochako points that Itsuka has a great ass.
  • Nice Girl: Is very friendly and positive towards everyone, being Izuku and Ochako's first friend besides each other, and is shown to be very protective of them both.
  • Positive Friend Influence: On both the giving and receiving end in regards to her relationship with Izuku. Her positivity and kindness help inspire Izuku while they both trained at the beach, while his support of her over Nighteye's harsh treatment endeared him to her quite dearly.
  • Promoted to Love Interest: For both Izuku and Ochako.
  • Required Secondary Powers: When enlarging her hands, she gets the strength to hold them up. This actually becomes a plot point since she has this for her own quirk - and not for One for All, which breaks every bone in her arm when she first uses it.
  • The Rival: Serves as this to Shouto in the sports festival arc, with Shouto challenging her in Chapter 24 and Itsuka, while not exactly understanding why, accepts.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Izuku and Ochako are this to her. She mentions that she never had a particular interest on boys or girls during middle school, until she met the two of them, which means that she is attracted to this boy and this girl specifically. This gets averted later on with Nejire charming her enough to have complicated feelings for her.
  • Sketchy Successor: While she ultimately isn't this, and the flash forward in Chapter 1 shows her being the best choice to carry One for All, Sir Nighteye still accuses her of being an inferior choice compared to Mirio.
  • The Smart Girl: She's the tactician of the Trio and comes up with numerous plans and counter-plans against the Consortium's attack on the USJ.
  • Stealth Pun: Itsuka mentions that her favorite tea brand is Green Tea. Izuku's last name has kanji for "green" and Ochako's first name has it for "tea".
  • Straight Man: Often presented as the serious, responsible counter to Setsuna and Yui's goofiness, although she'll occasionally indulge in their shenanigans.
  • Strong and Skilled: Zigzagged - years of practice with her quirk and in her grandfather's dojo means that she's able to use multiple forms of martial arts with her Super-Strength, but her control over One for All is next to non-existant.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She's been noted to heavily resemble her mother, but with her father's orange hair.
  • Super-Empowering: She becomes significantly more powerful when she unlocks her own version of Full Cowling, being able to move faster, hit harder, and think quicker when fighting against Shouto, turning their Curb-Stomp Battle into a far more even fight in Itsuka's favor.
  • Team Mom: She's pretty much this for all of Class 1A and the Kendousquad, being in charge of making sure they all behave and checking up on them after some pretty harrowing encounters with the Villain Consortium.
  • The Tease: Once her feelings are apparent and knowing that they are reciprocated, Itsuka sheds her previous shyness and becomes the blatant flirt of the group, with Izuku and Ochako the (more than happy) victims. This extends to being more than a little willing to show off some skin for both of them as well, shown by her removing her shirt and straddling both their laps during their home date.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Happens twice during the Sports Festival. First when she realizes she on the same team that Todoroki, Monoma and Shinso and later when she finds out that Setsuna and Yui united their teams to take hers out.
  • Tomboy: Her hobbies include working out, building her bike and hitting things.
  • Tsundere: Sweet variant. She's very quick to call Izuku and Ochako idiots, but does so with a noticeably affectionate look on her face.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: She's not exactly there yet, but her reaction to Izuku getting the hell beaten out of him by Hood was to charge straight in and try to rip the proto-Nomu in two.

    Nejire Hadou

Nejire Hadou — Fae

Quirk: Wave Motion

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nejire_9.png

A smiling and welcoming girl that has a child-like sense of curiosity. Her Quirk, "Wave Motion", enables her to release her vitality as energy shockwaves, though they lack speed due to coming out in spirals.

  • Achievements in Ignorance: Nejire casually talking to Ochako about how she went on a date with Izuku weeks prior causes the gravity girl to be distracted for long enough for Nejire to steal her points.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Nejire was an outcast in her previous school, with many people deeming her a Brainless Beauty and annoyed by her curious personality. It wasn't until U.A. that she started to make true friends besides Yuyu.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: As per her being de-aged - she doesn't know Mirio and Tamaki in this universe, while being close friends with Izuku, Ochako and Itsuka.
  • Age Lift: Inverted. Went from seventeen years old to fifteen.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Nejire is the only one not shown in the second Flash Forward, and the first one doesn't mention her or her connection to Izuku, Ochako and Itsuka at all. Izuku does end up looking at a picture of them all and sadly wish that Nejire was there with them, leaving it up in the air what exactly happened to her. And Word of God seems to indicate nothing good ...
  • Anime Hair: It's how Izuku first notices her during the Entrance Exam - wondering how she got her long blue hair in a twist.
  • Ascended Extra: Went from a supporting character in canon to the deuteragonist as per Word of God.
  • Badass Adorable: Very cute and good looking, and more than capable of fighting robots and villains alike. When she uses her Quirk to the maximum while being pinned to the bottom of the lake, she creates a tsunami that washes the villains away.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Is highly implied that her love for Izuku comes from the fact that he was the first person in her life since Yuyu to not be creeped out by her curious personality and geniunely enjoy her company. The same could be said of her feelings for Itsuka as well, as it took Itsuka treating her as a friend and reciprocating her closeness that Nejire suddenly forms an attraction for her.
  • Brainless Beauty: A subverted example in that she comes across as naive, but it's clear that she's far more powerful than anyone would suspect.
  • The Confidant: Becomes this to Itsuka when she offers to hear out Itsuka's issues with Izuku and Ochako and their relationship. The basis of their friendship basically forms around Nejire's willingness to let Itsuka vent to her.
  • Constantly Curious: She has a child-like sense of curiosity that pushes her to fire a lot of questions before the person can reply, and tends to ramble. This ends up becoming one of the reasons why she becomes attached to Izuku - he can reply to her questions, and keep up just as constantly.
  • Covert Pervert: Tries hard to mask her disappointment when Izuku chooses to wear a t-shirt during their 'date' on the beach, and when he uses it to wipe off some sweat on his face, she takes the opportunity to check out his abs.
  • Cuddle Bug: Frequently clings to whoever she's comfortable with, Yuuyu being a frequent 'victim' of such cuddles. Izuku himself isn't immune either, with the first thing Nejire does when they reunite after the entrance exam is practically tackle him in a hug.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Implied by Yuuyu, who thinks briefly about people not liking Nejire due to her constant rambling, or trying to take advantage of her. Chapter 20 further goes into it, with Nejire thinking back to middle school due to the crowd trying to intimidate Class 1A reminding her of it, revealing that people avoided her for her curious nature and left her almost friendless if not for Yuuyu.
  • Flying Firepower: She can use her Quirk to fly and blast off energy bolts.
  • Friendless Background: As Chapter 20 reveals, she grew up pretty much isolated from everyone in her middle school wtih the exception of Yuuyu. Part of the reason she's so endeared to Izuku is because he's the first friend she's made in years, and the fact that because of him she was invited into his friend circle only increases her affections towards him.
  • The Glomp: Pretty much jumps Izuku when they reunite after the entrance exam, and her vow to live after being cornered by the villains at the USJ is that she plans to hug him even more.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Her constantly curious nature often leads to her making some crazy assumptions from the get-go. For example, she sees Shoto (who has red and white hair) at the entrance exam and immeadiatly thinks his Quirk is related to something Canadian, like maple syrup.
  • Hidden Depths: Tends to act like an airhead, but during the invasion of the USJ acts surprisingly confident and sure of herself, making the plan to distract the villains while Yui and Tsuyu escape. And when she is pinned at the bottom of the lake, she shows genuine terror at the thought of dying, and determination to live once she thinks of Izuku.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: She mentions having a kitty back home. That doesn't stop her from liking Gudo, though.
  • Matchmaker Crush: Has a crush on Izuku and Itsuka, but fully supports them confessing to each other and Ochako as well.
  • Motor Mouth: She can fire off questions very fast, and tends to ramble every chance she gets. Aizawa pretty much immediately tried to have her moved to Class 1B so he didn't have to deal with her.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Several boys immediately notice her good looks and lack of personal space, and become flustered whenever she gets in their business. Izuku's a frequent victim of this, getting embarrassed by merely looking at her while she's more than happy to get up close and personal to him.
  • Nice Girl: Besides her eccentricity, she's a kind and thoughtful girl. Her Establishing Character Moment in the entrance exam is to check on Izuku when she sees him falling behind.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: The concept of 'personal bubble' seems to be a foreign concept to Nejire - she tends to get right up close and personal to everyone, and doesn't even notice their fluster.
  • Oblivious to Love: She's unaware that Yuuyu is clearly in love with her, being confused by her best friend's Green-Eyed Monster tendancies towards Izuku and simply thinking that she's 'being mean'.
  • Proud Beauty: She knows how attractive she is and has no problem with people checking her out. Nejire actually incentivates people to check her out.
  • Sensual Spandex: Her costume, like in canon, is a tight, form-fitting bodysuit. She immediately calls her and Ochako besties when spotting her own costume.
  • Shipper on Deck: She's fully on board with Izuku/Ochako/Itsuka getting together, and is positively gleeful when Itsuka admits that they're going to try dating, happily gushing and wondering what kind of dates they'll go on.
  • Ship Tease:
    • When she's dying at the bottom of the lake, being drowned by the Trigger henchmen, she thinks of Izuku in her dying moments, and immediately vows to live, wanting to have more time to spend with him and thinking some … very unplatonic thoughts, let's leave it at that.
    • Her interactions with Itsuka during their team up during the final matches of the sports festival have the two growing extremely close, to the point that they become suprisingly physically affectionate with each other. Itsuka's a bit oblivious while Nejire quickly becomes aware that she's becoming attracted to her new friend.
  • Shipping Torpedo: A sympathetic take, in that she sees Melissa's building attraction towards Izuku, but, knowing that Izuku's already taken, attempts to distract Melissa from that in order to make sure their relationship doesn't become awkward because of something Melissa doesn't know.
  • The Tease: Surprisingly, she becomes quite flirty around Itsuka after their Big Damn Kiss, suggesting they get together later to explore a bit more, and later shooting a flirty wink at her when leaving.
  • Third-Option Love Interest: Essentially serves as the 'Cheryl' to Ochako's 'Betty', Itsuka's 'Veronica', and Izuku's 'Archie'.
  • Troll: Interestingly, she can be quite mischevious, having teased Itsuka about her 'friend smooches' when she showed reluctance about talking about Todoroki's problems - and then proceeded to give her a 'friend smooch'.
  • What Is This Feeling?: Downplayed - after the USJ, she becomes aware that she's beginning to develop feelings for Izuku, but she's uncertain as to what exactly she feels for him. Given that she does dismiss the idea of being in love with him but is open to it, it's pretty clear that Nejire's coming around to viewing Izuku in a romantic light. She ends up feeling the same for Itsuka following their bonding during the Sports Festival arc and their bonding also confuses her, but she ends up coming around to realizing that she's fallen in love with both of them.

    Melissa Shield

Melissa Shield — Hercules

Quirk: Quirkless

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/melissa_3.png

A quirkless girl and the daughter of David Shield, an old friend of All Might. She is the one who built Izuku's Full Gauntlet.

  • Adaptational Badass: The second Flash Forward reveals that Melissa becomes a pro hero in her own right, and is indicated to be the Number One Hero of America. Not too bad for someone who's The Team Normal in canon.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Appears in canon sometime after the Final Exam arc, whereas here she is introduced before the entrance exam.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: In canon, in spite of small Ship Tease with Izuku, she doesn't show too much interest, and is shown being friends with Ochako. Here, she is shown to be attracted to them both, and ends up getting married to them.
  • Affectionate Nickname: 'Uncle Might' for All Might.
  • Age Lift: Perhaps. It's shown that Melissa is in Class 1A while in canon she's a year older than Izuku and the rest of 1A, indicating that, like Nejire, she was aged down.
  • Ascended Extra: Her role is rather small in the manga and the only prominent role she had was in My Hero Academia: Two Heroes. Here, she is Izuku's chief support item builder, and is going to move to Japan to begin attending UA as of Chapter 35. Chapter 36 escalates this as it reveals that she's actually going to become one of the main characters, as she's shown to be an active part of Team Clover and married to the Trio. Come Chapter 37, she full on becomes a member of Class 1-A to replace Bakugo.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Melissa's most prominent characteristic is her Nice Girl personality ... unless you destroy her support items. Upon seeing the wrecked state the Full Gauntlet was in after what happened at the USJ, Melissa hollowly states that she spent months building it for Izuku, only for him to destroy it in a week, with her facial expression making it clear that she was about five seconds from flying out to Japan to wring his neck. And upon seeing it wrecked again during Izuku's fight with Bakugou, the scene cuts to Melissa screaming at the TV as loud as she can, and her call to Izuku the night after (which gets picked up by Ochako since she had the button) has her immediately start screaming at him, only to calm down when she sees Ochako.
  • Bespectacled Cutie: Normally wears a pair of glasses, and sometimes wears goggles for her inventions, and is quite cute.
  • Birds of a Feather: Her and Ochako both have body issues concerning themselves, facing bullying from their classmates that don't make them feel any better about themselves. These issues allow Melissa to give Ochako genuine advice about her body in contrast to Itsuka and Himiko's attempts to make Ochako feel better about herself, and allow both Melissa and Ochako to form a much stronger friendship between each other.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: A more heartbreaking take than the usual, but Melissa points out that she would be one of the people hurt the most if her father went with the idea of the fake villain attack. This helps to knock some sense into him.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Played for Laughs example, but upon seeing Mei sliding up to Izuku and attempting to seduce him into becoming her test subject, Melissa becomes uncharacteristically catty and passive aggressive, and makes sure to tell Izuku that she will remember this interaction in a clear threat.
    "I won't forget your hesitation."
  • Covert Pervert: She checks out Izuku's ass during the Festival, and makes notes to take a good look at it when she invites him to I-Expo, much to her embarrassment. She would later have an Erotic Dream about him, and feels embarrassed that she's become enamored by his looks.
  • Crush Blush: Grows flustered when Ochako unintentionally thanks her genuinely for being a good friend, and quickly hangs up so that she can calm herself down and pack for her trip.
  • The Dreaded: Played for Laughs example. She makes clear that if Izuku damages or breaks his new Full Gaunlet, she will take the first flight to Japan to hunt him down. Izuku fearfully promises not to break it.
  • Fantastic Ableism: She's implied to have faced this due to her status as quirkless, in addition to being bulled over being David Shield's daughter.
  • First-Name Basis: She's shown having Izuku call her 'Melissa', and both Itsuka and Ochako call her by her first name as well.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Melissa is the nail actually. By accidentally overhearing Sam and David's plans to steal the amplifier, she manages to talk her father out of the plan that would lead to the I-Expo attack. Although, since Sam is still on the loose, the attack could still happen under different circumstances.
  • Friendless Background: She mentions that none of the other students at I-Island particularly care for her, either trying to befriend her as an angle to get closer to David Shield's daughter or completely disregard her and bully her. The Kendousquad are her first friends in years, and she clearly holds them dearly, wanting to actually be at the Sports Festival in person to cheer them on.
  • Future Badass: The end of Chapter 36 reveals that Melissa will become a hero by utilizing Hercules and is the fourth member of Team Clover with Izuku, Itsuka, and Ochako.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: One of the minority that doesn't have a quirk, and yet can build a support item that can easily assist Izuku in using his violent quirk. Upon her meeting the Trio in Chapter 19, she is able to teach Izuku, who has little to know knowledge in building support items, how to create a nanobot that would repair the damaged Gauntlet.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: She's quite pretty and as the picture above shows wears formal, neat attire, but she isn't afraid to slip into a pair of overalls and get under an engine, and definitely isn't afraid of getting a bit dirty. Her workshop is noted to have a few empty energy drinks and pizza boxes lined up against the wall.
  • Intelligence Equals Isolation: Her focal portion in Chapter 26 reveals that Melissa doesn't have any friends outside of the Kendousquad, and feels lonely that they're all in Japan while she is on I-Island, wanting to actually be at the arena to cheer them on rather than watch them through a screen.
  • Morality Pet: Serves as this to her father, with Melissa asking him if he didn't care what happened to her if he went to steal the quirk amplifier being one of the contributing factors to David abandoning the plan.
  • Nice Girl: The sole reason she rebuilt the Full Gauntlet to assist Izuku, and putting her other projects on the side to build it in a short time span? It sounded like Izuku needed her help. And Ochako revealing her body issues has Melissa emphasize, and talk to her honestly about her own issues.
  • Proud Beauty: An interesting version, in that she didn't always consider herself to be this. Due to bullying in the past, she used to have issues with her body, but therapy and support from multiple sources have Melissa deliberately consider herself beautiful as an effort to make herself feel better about herself. On a humorous level, she's also aware that Izuku checks out her behind from time to time, but shows more humor about it than anything.
  • The Rival: A Played for Laughs example with Mei - Mei wants to consider her a genuine rival and steal Izuku away from her as a test subject, while Melissa treats Mei as an annoyance.
  • Samus Is a Girl: The Flash Forward has her inside Hercules, a masculine sounding name and appearance.
  • Spanner in the Works: Melissa ends up being the reason for Sam not being able to convince David to enact the "fake villain attack" during the I-Expo. Although, that doesn't necessarily means the attack won't happen anyway.
  • The Smart Guy: Of the members of the squad, Melissa is a bona fide genius in the field of support items, having built Izuku's Full Gauntlet.
  • The Team Normal: She is the only Quirkless member of the Kendosquad and of Class 1-A as well.
  • Teen Genius: She is 17 years old, and a prodigy in Support Item development.
  • The Tease: She's aware that Izuku is somewhat attracted to her and subtly teases him over it - while him walking in on her getting out of the shower embarrassed them both, Melissa later accepts his apology and pokes fun at him innocently, only getting amusement out of his flustered expressions.
  • Voice with an Internet Connection: How she used to communicate with Izuku over the Full Gauntlet, advising him of how to repair and use it, and likewise act as a friend from across the world. Come Chapter 37, this is averted as she shows up at UA.

The Kendousquad

    Setsuna Tokage

Setsuna Tokage — Lizardy

Quirk: Lizard Tail Splitter

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/setsuna_tokage_0.png

A talkative Class girl who enrolled into U.A. through recommendations and one of Itsuka's middle school friends. Her Quirk, "Lizard Tail Splitter", lets her split her body into multiple pieces that she can control independently.

  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: In canon, as far as it can tell, she met Itsuka, Yui and Eijirou at U.A. Here, it's stated that she moved to Chiba when she was young and attended the same middle school as the three of them, and thus she, Itsuka and Yui are far closer in this universe than in canon.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Justified here - she can only split her body into about 25 parts instead of 50 as in canon, but this also takes into account that she has not reached that level of control over her Quirk yet.
  • Animal-Themed Superbeing: Her power is based on lizards' ability to detach their tails as a defense mechanism.
  • Anti-Hero: Downplayed, but as a matter of being a pragmatic fighter, Setsuna has no problem on fighting dirty, often relying on taunts and insults to mess up with her opponents.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: As the line below points out:
"All those pokes and teases from before … all of those while trying to understand what it took to get a reaction out of him. This was … this was what Setsuna Tokage was capable of. He had never noticed it before, but … but quite honestly, she was probably one of the more dangerous members of their little group."
  • Broken Ace: She has one of highest scores at the recommendation exam and is one the smartest students from Class 1-A, but she can't help but feel insecure and depreciate herself in comparison to other students, like Yoarashi.
  • Broken Tears: She is seeing crying after Todoroki's attack shatters her hand, and she doesn't take well not being able to make to the third event.
  • The Chessmaster: She's mentioned to be rather sneaky when it comes to underhanded tactics, and unlike canon, wherein it comes across as an Informed Ability due to going up against a post-character development Bakugou, it's shown in full during the second game of the Sports Festival - forging an alliance with another team that was low on points compared to the other two, to combine into one larger group to overwhelm the other two teams.
  • Detachment Combat: Able to split her body into several different parts and make them move or fly around at will.
  • Flight: She's shown the ability to levitate in her detached form, floating her body around to set a trap during the battle trial and hover over Itsuka menacingly when she reveals that her group allied with the other to overwhelm Itsuka's.
  • Gyaru Girl: She used to be one of them, and seems embarrassed by it, as shown when she tried to stop her little sister from telling Izuku and Ochako about it.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Setsuna believes that the only reason she passed to U.A. after taking the recommendation exam is because Inasa, who aced every single test from it dropped out, making her feel like a fraud and wanting to try and prove at all costs that she earned her place at the Hero Course. This becomes worse after the USJ, where she is the one to leave and ask for help, making herself feel like a coward who ran while her friends almost died, and only managed to find All Might during the storm that Nine caused by dumb luck. It takes Sero to calm her down and remind her that she still learning to become a hero and that she will become better at it.
  • I Shall Taunt You: Since her Quirk isn't the best for fighting, Setsuna often relies on Trash Talking and getting under people's skins to win her fights.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: She loves to tease everyone she meets, specially someone she considers hot, such as Izuku or Hanta.
  • Motor Mouth: Very talkative, and loves to get on Itsuka's nerves.
  • Ms. Fanservice: A discussed trope - she's well aware of how attractive she is, and is very positive about showing it off, specifically designing her costume to be Sensual Spandex and smirking when pointing out that Hanta was checking her out.
  • Proud Beauty: As stated above, she's aware of her beauty and won't hestiate in flaunting it, teasing Izuku and Hanta.
  • Sad Clown: Set keeps a very upbeat and easygoing personality on the outside, but in the inside, she is very insecure and feels unworthy of being at the Hero Course, to the point it almost qualifies as Imposter Symdrome ever since she took the recommendation exam.
  • Scary Teeth: Not as pronounced as Eijirou or Tetsutetsu's, she's got a set of sharp teeth that she shows when revealing her plans to Itsuka during the game of tag in the Sports Festival.
  • The Tease: Tends to get a thrill out of pushing Itsuka's buttons, and has done so for years, up to the point that Itsuka can merely reflect on one of Setsuna's pranks and the murderous rage would simply manifest.
  • Weak, but Skilled: An excellent strategist and wily fighter, but her Quirk has little direct offensive power.

    Yui Kodai

Yui Kodai — Rule

Quirk: Size

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yui_kodai_1.png

A stone-faced girl and one of Itsuka's middle school friends. Her Quirk, "Size", allows her to increase and decrease the size of any non-living objects she touches.

  • Adaptational Comic Relief: Some of the humor of the fic is derived from Yui's stoic pervertedness, with Itsuka and Setsuna having to rein her in before she gets too perverted.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: Similar to Setsuna, it's stated that she moved to Chiba when she was young and attended the same middle school as Itsuka, Setsuna and Eijirou, and thus she, Itsuka and Setsuna are far closer in this universe than in canon.
  • Ascended Extra: Went from a side character to one of Itsuka's best friends, and a part of Izuku's friend circle.
  • Badass Adorable: She specifically designed her outfit to make herself look cute.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Played for Laughs when she witnesses Mei feel Tenya up and drag him away to 'make some babies', needing Setsuna to hold her back before she goes to 'cut a bitch'.
  • The Comically Serious: Yui is prone to deliver some of the most ridiculous lines with a straight face.
  • Determinator: In spite of her rather perverted and comedic stoicism, Yui shows herself to be surprisingly determined to help Tenya through the crippling of his brother, brushing past his attempts to push her away to the point that she chooses to go to Hosu with him, interning with another hero, just so she can keep an eye on him.
  • Emotionless Girl: Very stoic and rarely displays emotions. Every line she states lacks any kind of emotion. Although as Tenya soon discovers, the trick is to look her in the eye, as she usually shows her emotions there.
  • Fangirl: Seems to be one of Tokusatsu style shows, basing her costume on Ultraman.
  • Hidden Depths: She shows a surprising aptitude at many points, but most notably during the riot at U.A. following Slice's infiltration - she briefly gets over her shyness in front of Tenya, and comes up with the plan to get to Setsuna to tell Itsuka about what was happening. She also appears to have understood Tenya's revenge plan, as she wordlessly chooses to go to Hosu just so she can keep an eye on him.
  • Geek: She's a massive fan of Ultraman, and based her costume off its design.
  • Identical Stranger: An invoked and Played for Laughs example. While meeting Izuku and Ochako at the beach, Set says that Itsuka replaced her green-haired and cute friend duo with other green-haired and cute friend duo. This also acts as a meta joke, since Yui's character design and Quirk were originally meant to be Ochako's.
  • Not So Stoic: Her flat expression breaks entirely when it's implied that, when trying to get her points during the second round of the sports festival, Tenya was low enough that he accidentally spanked her. This causes Yui to jump about a mile high and look after Tenya with a startled, flustered and embarrassed reaction.
  • Ship Tease: With Tenya. Unlike her other objects of affection, who she tends to check out at every opportunity and is not afraid to admit it, she's very taken aback by Tenya when they meet, and quickly avoids him - although this is less to do with her being taken aback by his looks, and implied to be more based off shyness.
  • Whole Costume Reference: Her hero costume is a deliberate homage (bordelining into copyright infrigiment) to Ultraman.

    Eijirou Kirishima

Eijirou Kirishima — Red Riot

Quirk: Hardening

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eijirou_2.png

Class 1-A's friendliest and most Hot-Blooded member, he is always working to become 'manlier' and a better hero. His Quirk, "Hardening", allows him to make his body more resistant to any type of attack.

  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: In canon he's closer to Katsuki than with Izuku, although that's not to say that they aren't friends; in this universe, Eijirou meets Izuku months before attending U.A., and both of them become closer friends than before.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Mina calls him "Kiri".
  • Ambiguously Bi: He is attracted to Mina, in fact she is the inspiration for his Expository Hairstyle Change, but he seems to be considering his sexuality when he sees Mirio's naked body during his sparring session.
  • Bash Brothers: With Tetsutetsu. The two of them become brothers in all but blood after their fight during the second event.
  • Best Friend: Downplayed, but of all the guys in Class 1A, he's one of Izuku's closer friends, outside of Tenya and the other girls.
  • Boring, but Practical: His Quirk only makes his skin harder. Izuku cheers him up about this by complimenting it and advising its strengths and benefits.
  • Childhood Friend: He and Mina have known each other since they were children, and he's also known Itsuka, Setsuna and Yui for a pretty long time as well.
  • Fiery Redhead: He's very intense and lively, and in Chapter 11 dyes his hair red.
  • The Friends Who Never Hang: A discussed trope. Eijirou realizes that, ever since coming to UA, he spent relatively less and less time with the Kendousquad in favour of Katsuki, Awase, Kaminari and Sero, and apologizes to Izuku and Ochako about it. Seeing as they also made friends with Tenya, Momo and Nejire at the same time, they don't hold it against him, and tell him that it's okay for him to hang out with people outside them.
  • Hero of Another Story: Played for Laughs example. As Itsuka points out, appearently he had his very own shonen hero arc while trainning for the Festival, with Tetsutetsu acting as his Stock Shōnen Rival and the two of them having their "fated battle between rivals" during the second event.
  • Super-Toughness: His Quirk.

    Tenya Iida

Tenya Iida

Quirk: Engine

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tenya_iida_hero_profile_0.png

The scion of the Iida family of Heroes, he's incredibly uptight and has the highest expectations for himself and his peers. His Quirk, "Engine", gives him literal engines in his legs that grant him Super-Speed.

  • Accidental Pervert: Sped by Yui quick enough during the sports festival's second round, he never noticed he was apparently low enough to have taken her points ... by implicably smacking her butt. Yui's reaction afterwards heavily implies that he ended up genuinely flustering her.
  • Big Brother Worship: Admires his brother immensely, and hopes to become a great hero like him.
  • Bizarre Human Biology: His quirk takes the form on orangic combustion engines in his calves. It helps Class 1A identify Ingenium as his brother, since he has similiar engines coming out of his elbows.
  • The Comically Serious: Very wound up and takes almost everything with the utmost seriousness. As such, he tends to act as a somewhat Straight Man in contrast to Nejire and Yui.
  • Crazy-Prepared: He keeps a spare pair of glasses on his pocket in case he loses the ones in his face.
  • Demoted to Extra: Downplayed since he's still quite important to the plot, but he does not become the class representative, since Itsuka received more votes than him.
  • Graceful Loser: He is not at all bothered over his defeat at the Sports Festival, even though the match was almost ruined by Mei's shameless self-promotion.
  • Hero-Worshipper: As in canon, he admires his brother, and is pleasantly surprised that Tensei came to help out at the USJ invasion and will be their substitute teacher.
  • Heroic Build: Very tall and broad-shouldered for his age, which Yui takes great pleasure in looking at.
  • Jerkass Realization: Seeing Izuku's selfless acts at the entrance exam, from saving Shoda from being crushed by the zero-pointer and fighting it off to give the other contestants time to escape makes Tenya realize how wrong his own actions were, and apologizes to him the next time they meet.
  • Not So Above It All: He's very proper and serious, but even he gets flustered when Nejire bends around him to poke his engines, and Yui confessing that she finds him attractive causes him to short circut.
  • Oblivious to Love: In a way that would make Izuku jealous - he's aware that Yui seems to avoid him, but he has no idea why, thinking that he must've done something to offend her.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: His behavior in Chapter 31 after implicatively hearing that his brother was injured is extremely offputting - he's stumbling over his words, brushes Yui off, and runs in the hallway. Yui takes note of this weird change of behavior and is extremely worried for him. When he comes to school following his brother's hospitilization, Izuku, Ochako and Itsuka are put off by how nonchalant but clearly not alright he is, and the entire class is unnerved by how eerily silent he's being.
  • Revenge Before Reason: As Stendhal points out, a lot of Tenya's need for vengeance is determental to his health - he's willing to go without rest or water during the first day, when he's going into the Hero Killer's territory, and shows that he's willing to ignore Yui's willingness to help him in desire for vengeance for his brother's condition.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: He notices Yui's awkwardness around him, and comes to the conclusion that he must have done something to make her uncomfortable. He's right that her awkwardness is about him, but off the mark about what he did to her - specifically, due to the feeling she has growing for him.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Goes on this during his internship, under the guidance of Stendhal.
  • Ship Tease: Gets this a lot with Yui, who's implied to be crushing on him; Tenya himself seems unaware, but becomes flustered when pressed up against her during the riot when the reporters got on campus.
  • What Does She See in Him?: After seeing his Crazy-Prepared antics during his match at the Sports Festival, Setsuna asks Yui if this is really the guy she wants. Yui says that his dorky behaviour actually makes Tenya more endearing to her.

    Momo Yaoyorozu

Momo Yaoyorozu — Creati

Quirk: Creation

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/momo_18.png

Smart, studious but also kind and gentle, Momo hails from an extremely wealthy family and was enrolled through recommendations like Setsuna. Her Quirk, "Creation", allows her to create any inorganic object out of her body, as long as she knows its atomic composition.

  • Abusive Parents: While her mother, Yukiri seems to be a good parent, her father, Daikoku, is a emotionally abusive example, controlling every decision of her life and belittling her at any slight mistake.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Not only Momo has to deal with a Manipulative Bastard of a father, but also is stuck in a Arranged Marriage with a cold heart jackass who is too stuborn to change. Thankfully, Shoto gets over most of his issues after the Sports Festival and only needs to deal with her abusive dad.
  • Adaptational Modesty: Downplayed in that she still has the same costume as in canon, but with the addition of a zipper that covers her up when her Quirk is not in use.
  • Affectionate Nickname: 'Yaomomo' is Shouto's nickname for her that came from their childhood. Overhearing it has Nejire and Setsuna start referring to her by that, and Momo eventually (and reluctantly) gives everyone permission to call her by that name.
  • Arranged Marriage: She's engaged to Todoroki.
  • Ascended Extra: Fairly important to the plot in canon, but here she is a part of Izuku's friend circle and thus becomes much closer to Izuku, Ochako and Itsuka. She even has her own subplot, featuring her Arranged Marriage to Shouto and her complicated, abusive relationship with her father, Daikoku.
  • Casual Kink: In her zombified state, she ties Kyoka on a leash and drags her around the field. Not that the rocker girl seems to mind. She also enjoyed having Kyoka choke her with her jacks during their intense make out section in Chapter 42.
  • Class Representative: She's Class 1-A's vice-representative.
  • First Kiss: With Kyoka in Chapter 42.
  • Foil: To Ochako. Both are friends with boys with elemental Quirks that are Willfully Weak due to traumatic experiences, Ochako with Izuku, Momo with Shoto. Both also are also clearly in love with said boys, but while Ochako's friendship with Izuku withstood even after the playground incident, Momo is barely on speaking terms with Shoto these days due to something that happened after his mother was sent to the asylum. Ochako is the daughter of contruction workers who are Good Parents that support her dreams no matter what, Momo is the heiress of one of the most influential and powerful families of the world, and her father treats her as an extension of his will, belittling her at any slight mistake.
  • Freudian Trio: The Ego to Kyoka's Id and Shoto's Superego during their internship at the Endeavor Agency.
  • Jerkass to One: Downplayed, but she's extremely friendly to everyone she meets - except for Shouto Todoroki, in which she's cold and clearly wanting to get away from him. It's further complicated when she admits that she doesn't hold any real resentment towards him, but his own behavior makes it hard to get along with him. Come Chapter 33, this trope is essentially averted.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: Is implied to have few friends before UA, with Shouto being the one referenced the most, but due to their conflicted feelings for each other the friendship grew cold over the years. This may have to do with Daikoku's abusive control over her as well.
  • Oblivious to Love: She seems unaware of Kyouka's obvious crush on her.
  • Male Gaze: Played for Drama. As it turns out, her hero costume was deliberately designed by Yaoyorozu Corporations to be appealing to look at, despite her uncomfortableness. Endeavor decides that their first order of business in their internship is to get her a cape to cover her body.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She's possibly the most attractive female student in Class 1A.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: The Nice to Kyoka's Mean and Shoto's In-Between, being always polite and calm during their internship.
  • Not So Above It All: She is disappointed over the fact she didn't get to shoot her cannon during the Festival.
  • Related in the Adaptation: She has no connection to Flect Turn in canon; here, due to him being a Composite Character, he is her father.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: Gentle, beautiful, well-mannered, joyful, and will not hesitate to kick Chimera in the face when he is trying to kill them. And when Shouto pushes her too far in making her feel useless, she has no issue with smacking him in the back of the head with a paper fan and yelling him down.
  • The Smart Girl: Easily 1A's smartest student, and her Quirk requires her to memorize and imagine the molecular structure of what she wants to make.
  • We Used to Be Friends: With Shouto Todoroki. Both were close when they were children, but events seem to have happened that significantly embittered them both over each other. As shown in Chapter 32, however, both of them are shown that there's still a feeling of friendship between them, with the two sharing a small moment discussing Shouto's siblings. This trope gets pretty much averted by Chapter 33, in which she shows concern for Shouto's breakdown and makes it clear that she'll stand with him, and by Chapter 38 it's fully averted, with Momo and Shouto now returning to being friends with each other.

    Yuuyu Haya

Yuuyu Haya

Quirk: Electric Arrows

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuyu_haya__edited_colors__by_masterchristian_ddse9h1.jpg

Nejire's best friend, and the representative of Class 1B.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Yuyu was first introduced during the School Festival arc. Here she debuts during the Entrance Exam arc.
  • Age Lift: Like Nejire, she's aged down from 17 to 15.
  • Ascended Extra: The most straightforward example from the cast. Goes from a minor third-year hero student who's better known as Nejire's best friend and a Satellite Character, to being the class rep from Class 1B and a friend of Izuku, Ochako and Itsuka.
  • Class Representative: Is this for Class 1B.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She's completely bitter over the growing romance between Nejire and Izuku. This rears its ugly head especially in Chapter 31, where she learns that Nejire is still going to try romancing Izuku even when knowing that Itsuka might make a move; this causes Yuuyu to lash out, insulting Izuku, and getting into an argument with Nejire.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Is easily the snarkiest character in the Kendousquad.
  • Foil:
    • To Ochako. Both are the Girl Next Door to their respective friends growing up, Ochako with Izuku, Yuyu with Nejire, always standing for them even though that made them outcasts in their schools, but while Ochako is a Nice Girl, Yuyu is a Jerk with a Heart of Gold. Both also have a tease of Childhood Friend Romance, but Yuyu seems to be more aware of it than Ochako, given that she seems to be jealous of how happy Nejire is when thinking about Izuku. And most notably, their biggest foil is how they deal with their feelings, with Ochako shoving hers down and looking down on herself for feeling that way, and Yuuyu becoming increasingly embittered by Izuku and Nejire's growing relationship.
    • To Itsuka. Both are the Class Representative of their respective classes, but while Itsuka was elected due to her leadership prowess and natural charisma, Yuyu won the position because she was the only person willing to deal with Monoma's Irrational Hatred for 1-A, something that she knows and is not happy with.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Yuyu becomes increasingly more jealous of Izuku and Nejire's time together as time goes by. She is seen spitting bitterly on the ground when Nejire hugs the boy after he crashes on the finish line.
  • Hidden Disdain Reveal: She reveals to Nejire that she's always disliked Izuku, saying to her that it's due to his 'creepy' behavior around his best friends but is obviously about how Nejire is clearly falling for him.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's definitely not the nicest person, constantly grumpy and tired of her eccentric classmates, but she at least recognizes that, as class rep, she needs to improve herself, and is an absolute sweetheart to Nejire.
  • Only Friend: She was Nejire's only friend before they both came to U.A. She is even glad that she is surrounded by people who genuinely like her eccentric personality.
  • Only Sane Man: The reason she became 1-B's representative in a class with people like Monoma, Todoroki and Tetsutetsu.
  • Shipping Torpedo: Attempts this in Chapter 31, trying to convince Nejire that Izuku was scummy for going around and flirting with her, Itsuka and Ochako at the same time. This, of course, stems from her own feelings for Nejire.

    Shouto Todoroki

Shouto Todoroki

Quirk: Half-Cold Half-Hot

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2022_12_07_224514312.png

One of the four recommended students and the son of the Number Two Hero, Endeavor. His Quirk, "Half-Cold and Half-Hot", lets him emit incredible ice from his right side and searing flames from his left.

  • The Ace: Everyone agrees that he is 1-B's most powerful student.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: If it wasn't bad enough having to deal with Endeavor's bad parenting, he is also emotionally abused by his own older brother. Then there's the Repressed Memories from seeing his mother trying to kill Endeavor.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: In this story, he didn't get his scar from Rei throwing boiling water at him by accident. Apparently he got it way before said accident happened and what he actually witnessed in that night was his mother trying to kill Endeavor, and this traumatic experience was blocked from his memory until he got older. He eventually found out Toya was the one to scar him.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: It's never stated in canon if he and Momo ever met before U.A. Here, they were Childhood Friends until an incident implied to be Rei's hospitalization caused them to split up.
  • Aloof Ally: According to Yuyu, he prefers to stay brooding in the corner then try to socialize with his classmates. He also makes very clear he is not going to help any of his classmates during the Sports Festival and to count him of whatever plans they (i.e. Monoma) have against 1-A.
  • Aloof Big Brother: Inverted. He's mentioned to be fairly cold towards both of his older siblings.
  • Arc Villain: Downplayed, but he's essentially the main antagonist in Itsuka's arc in the Sports Festival Arc, and is its Climax Boss.
  • Arranged Marriage: He's engaged to Momo.
  • Big Brother Worship: He clearly has this for Toya, promising to win the Sports Festival to make him proud. Toya, for his turn, only cares over how much Shoto's actions will reflect on him. This ends up getting averted with the revelation that Touya gave him his scar.
  • Broken Ace: He's 1B's most powerful student, but unknown to them, this came at the cost of a normal childhood.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Given how powerful he is, Shoto is prone to give these out even by using just half of his power.
    • According to Yuuyu, much like in canon, he simply froze Ojiro and Shiozaki during the Battle Trials and won the exercise.
    • Gives one to Shinso and Yuuyu during the Sports Festival. Shinso barely has time to brainwash Momo before he and Yuuyu get frozen in an iceberg almost as big as the stadium.
  • Demoted to Extra: Since he's been shipped off to Class 1-B, he doesn't have as large a role in the story as he does in canon. This gets averted in later chapters, as the Sports Festival arc has him as a major character going forward in the story.
  • Defrosting Ice King: Almost literally, specially given the Rule of Symbolism in his fight against Itsuka and Nejire. As soon as Shoto overcomes his emotional handicap and unleashes his flames, his anger, sadness and resentment quite literally melts away, and he becomes a lot friendlier.
  • Extreme Doormat: To Touya - Shouto, unlike his intense hatred of Endeavor, takes Touya's abuse without any resistance, under the belief that his brother was the only one who could understand his pain. Upon learning that his memories of what happened with Rei are incorrect and she wasn't the one who gave him his scar, Shouto ultimately discovers that it was Touya who gave him the scar, and the nonchalance of him admitting it has Shouto finally stand up for himself.
  • Freudian Excuse: His aloof and condescending attitude is ultimately rooted in having one of the worst childhoods in the story.
  • Freudian Trio: The Superego to Kyoka's Id and Momo's Ego during their internship at the Endeavor Agency.
  • Graceful Loser: He forfeits the final match of the Sports Festival because despite being ready to use his flames, he is not ready to give his best for a fight. After that, he even raises Itsuka's hand in the sky, to display their newly found comradery.
  • Good Is Not Nice: His classmates refer to him, to his face actually, as a jerk with the social skills of a goldfish. He starts to mellow out after his match against Itsuka.
  • Heroic BSoD: Goes through one during the last match of the Sports Festival. After spilling out his entire traumatic childhood to Itsuka and Nejire and finding that the entire experience over how he got his scar were actually Repressed Memories from his mother attempting to kill his father, Shoto immediately lets go of his anger and desperate desire to win and impress his brother and breaks down. He still ends up using his flames by the end of the match, but the trauma is still there and will need to be addressed eventually.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Title-dropped by Momo, in fact. As she points out, beneath his cold and aloof persona, lies a boy with a genuinely good heart. His inner monologue shows he clearly misses his friendship with Momo, but between his hatred for Endeavor and his obsession with being acknowledged for his brother, it's clear he doesn't know how to let this feelings out.
  • Irony: For someone who hates Endeavor with a passion, he is too focused on getting the approval of someone who is exactly like him, his older brother Toya.
  • Innocent Innuendo: As consequence of having No Social Skills, Shoto claims Kyoka took his "V-Card" during their date, completely that means virginity instead of just hanging out with friends.
  • Instant Expert: Despite not being familiar with video games, he managed to singlehandly win all the games he played during the Squad's hangout at the arcade before Chapter 41.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While he may be too blunt about it, most of his classmates agree with his point that they shouldn't underperform at the Sports Festival and rely solely on him just so Monoma can win his one-sided rivalry with Class 1-A.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: The In-Between to Kyoka's Mean and Momo's Nice, being always stoic and non-chalant while having to deal with his father's nonsense.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Gives one to Itsuka during their match, having reached his Rage Breaking Point once again during the fight. Unfortunately, he also finds himself in the receiving end of one from the redhead herself, who had enough of his jackass attitude.
  • No Social Skills: As shown during his brief conversation with Yuuyu, he pretty much has the social skills of a goldfish.
  • Not Afraid of You Anymore: Upon discovering that Touya was the one who gave him his scar, Shouto loses what little respect he had left for his brother and finally stands up for himself.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Gets one before his first match at the Sports Festival. Between not being able to understand that his brother will never acknowledge him no matter what he does, to being reminded of much an abusive bastard Daikoku Yaoyorozu is and meeting Endeavor on his way to the stadium, as soon as the match begins, he furiously unleashes an iceberg against Yuyu and Shinso.
  • Revenge Before Reason: According to Endeavor, if Shoto was less focused on his anger during the second event, he would have realized Izuku's plan of passing his points to Ochako, something that was obvious to everyone in the audience.
  • Repressed Memories: From the night of when he supposedly got his scar. He didn't witness his mother having a psychotic breakdown over his likeness to Endeavor, but his mother attempting to kill his father.
  • Rule of Symbolism: During his match against Itsuka and Nejire, the full power of his ice and Nejire's Wave Motion causes the ice to reshape itself into a dome that traps him, Itsuka, Nejire and Momo inside, much like his own emotions got surpassed by his hatred and resentment. Once he overcomes his emotional handicap and unleashes his flames, the ice dome completely melts down, symbolizing how Shoto is finally letting go of negative feelings in his heart and embracing himself entirely.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Following his conceding from the final match, Shouto acts far more personable albeit awkward, going to bat for Momo against her father and insisting he and Endeavor come with the Yaoyorozus to their mansion to make sure Momo doesn't face her father's wrath immediately.
  • We Used to Be Friends: With Momo. They knew each other from a young age, but an incident happened that led to their relationship being soured until present day. It's implied that it's going to be repaired following their rebonding during the final match.
