Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:

openAction on closed TRS?
As I explained in this TLP for Hayseed Name, Two First Names had a TRS thread that was called for creating a Redneck Name trope and turning Two First Names into a redirect. However, it seems no one wanted to make said TLP and the thread was locked.
Now, in this case the TRS thread was so old that I'd rather we start a new one anyway, but in general, is there a rule on taking action on a closed TRS thread? If, say, the thread was closed and that spurred someone to go "oh dang" and make the TLP right away, would that have been valid?
openBlack Widow (2020)
Hello there. Given that "Black Widow 2020" has a trailer, is it a good idea to create a page for the movie?
openAbout a fanon page
I don't think the page for Fanon.Mob Psycho 100 is formated right. Listing fanfics isn't necessary. Should the links be removed?
open Fic dis-recommendations
So I've encountered this in a lot of fanfic recs page, where in the comments section, another troper would remark on how they don't find the particular fic as recommended as the initial poster (e.g. that the fic has a boring start, or that the later chapters aren't as well written, etc.)
This is not kosher right?
openFeatured tropes
Is Today's Featured Trope being updated? Or is there some kind of glitch? It seems to me that Family Title has been there for over a week.
Edited by XFlloopenComplains against specific troper
Where can I send complains to the administration toward specific user? aquinn is a new user on edit spree, using some truly bizzare formatting and even weirder sentence structure. I found those by pure accident, but each page edited by that user is one step away from vandalism. Clearing the formatting alone is just plain tedious.
openFridge cleanup thread
Is there a cleanup and maintenance thread for Fridge Brilliance, Fridge Horror, and Fridge Logic? I used to read Fridge.Spongebob Squarepants back in 2016, and now that I know the site rules, a lot of those examples may be misuse.
openUnintentionally Unsympathetic misuse?
- Unintentionally Sympathetic:
- Yama is only fifteen years old but she's still voluntarily serving a fascist organization that has invaded and conquered their world.
- Poe's statement they need to forgive ex-Imperials of their crimes by drawing a false equivalence to his mutiny rubbed a lot of readers the wrong way.
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: The galaxy's full-on surrender to the First Order is meant to be disappointing but the Apathetic Citizens status of seemingly everyone makes them pass a Moral Event Horizon for most readers. Most don't seem remotely interested in putting up a fight against Space Nazis.
The first 2 are so poorly though out they’re under the wrong trope. The latter sounds more like a scale problem (how could they realistically conquer them so fast). None of them explain why/if they’re meant to be sympathetic despite this. And as a prequel to The Rise of Skywalker maybe this is meant to be addressed there. Cut?
I asked cleanup here but haven't heard anything. I'll remove the entries on the 3rd per Three-Day Rule unless I hear anything.
Edited by Ferot_DreadnaughtopenMoving works page domains?
Webcomic.Freak Angels used to be available online. It has since been taken down, and is now only available in print and through digital download. Based on that, It should now have its description edited, and be moved to ComicBook.Freak Angels instead, right?
If so, I've never done a move like that before - If I understand correctly, it's:
1. Create the ComicBook.Freak Angels page, paste in the content of Webcomic.Freak Angels.
2. Change all redirects on the rest of the wiki from Webcomic.Freak Angels ComicBook.Freak Angels.
3. Cutlist the Webcomic.Freak Angels page.
Edited by rachiebirdopenRegarding a Character folder entry
There's a certain character entry on Characters.Persona 5 Major Targets that was renamed from Black Mask to The Traitor by Tropers/bdacosta2 for the reason "The Traitor is the least-spoilery title for this folder, seeing as the opening sequence of P5 reveals a traitor in the group."
The problem with this is other than that I swear there was a minor edit war over this a while back and that said character is never directly addressed canonically as "The Traitor", is that the prerelease material for Persona 5 Royal spoils the identity of Black Mask and that their entry in Characters.Persona 5 The Phantom Thieves Of Hearts Second Half reveals it without spoiler tags. There also seems to be issues where tropes for the character that are about story events added in Royal are mentioned on the Major Targets page but not on the second half page and vice versa, such as the "playable" folder not having the Noble Demon and Token Evil Teammate tropes yet the "enemy" folder does even though the descriptions for both mention him being playable. I have no idea if we should be handling this character differently (like combining both their folders into one or combining them and splitting it into a seperate page) or if it's fine as is.
Edited by MetaverseopenColour-Coded Emotions image links?
On ImageLinks.Colour Coded Emotions, instead of, you know, image links, it just shows a list of which color corresponds to which emotion (redundant, since that's already on the main page), and a phone number and email.
openFirst Person Character Profile
Slug39terra unilaterally changed Deadpool's character section in Characters.Death Battle Season Six to be all first person. Can I request a revert here?
Also can we leave all first-person troping to Self-Demonstrating pages?
Edited by JRads47openDivide By Zero - I think it's legit, can I make a TLP?
I know that there was a TRS back in 2013 which caused the Divide by Zero trope to be renamed to Reality-Breaking Paradox per large amounts of misuse, part of it coming from the trope name causing people to think that it's about literal references to division by zero. However, Launch Displacement exists, but doesn't detail what to do when you want to make a new trope with the old name of a different one. Would it be okay if I just started a TLP for Divide by Zero? I think it has purpose, seeing as the number zero, the division operation, and the fact that they don't work together is known even by elementary school children, thus making it an easily understood math reference in works. It can be used to mean something never happening, for instance "You winning is like me dividing by zero — it will never happen!". The amount of examples should be enough. Plus, I think I'd be able to handle it, as I've made LOL, 69 and Common HTTP Status Code, which are also references to math/numbers/IT terms. Or do I have to discuss getting a permission for a Trope Transplant somewhere else, and if so, where? Thank you.
Edited by PiterpicheropenTropes that appear in fanfiction by merit of appearing in the canon too?
For instance, if in The Alice and Bob Show, Alice is an Action Girl, do we list Action Girl under both The Alice and Bob Show and fanfics of it? I personally think no, it's superfluous, but other people disagree.
openMisuses of the POV Cam trope Videogame
So, one thing I have noticed while cleaning up the Video Game pages is that P.O.V. Cam trope is sometimes just stuck onto any game that's played from a first-person perspective. Here's the latest example: Your Toy.
I mean, that's textbook Trope Decay, right? Given its relative prominence (this is like the fifth time I see this, and I am sure doing a wick search will reveal a few more), should we outright amend the trope page itself to clarify that's 'not what it's meant to be about?
openTroper bumping media forum threads
Recently Smashup has been bumping media threads (Wonder Park, for example) to talk about an image on a Nightmare Fuel page. Should those kinda things go to Image Pickin' or the Nightmare Fuel cleanup thread, or both?
Edited by lalalei2001
A while back (maybe around two or so years ago), in the TLP crash rescue thread, I brought up VideoGame.Game Genie since it lacks trope examples. I said I thought it should be moved to UsefulNotes.Game Genie, since it's a way to tinker with games' code, rather than being a game itself. Only one person responded; Fighteer said he agreed with that idea, but that post wasn't marked as a mod statement (i.e., the post wasn't highlighted in red/pink), so I wasn't sure if I had permission.
Would moving the page to Useful Notes require a TRS thread, or is posting this on ATT enough? VideoGame.Mii was moved to UsefulNotes.Mii earlier this year without TRS, but I don't know if the consensus was gathered on ATT or the forums, so I wasn't sure.
Edit: It looks like VideoGame.Game Shark is in the same boat as VideoGame.Game Genie.
