openPenny Arcade TearJerker is dangerously close to Troping Real Life
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/TearJerker/PennyArcade
It tropes information that is given on the comic alright. But its troping the actual creators and its really extensive.
openTwo Tropes for the price of One Web Original
On the YMMV sub-page for Seal Online, there was a listing of What Do You Mean Its Not For Kids, which I corrected to What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?. I didn't notice that this was a formatting mistake, and the troper originally intended for What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?/What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids? instead. However, I'm not sure if we're allowed to list two tropes for one example, on top of the fact that YMMV tropes cannot be Played With, and this kinda feels like Playing With troping.
openRon The Death Eater cleanup?
This was deleted from YMMV.Steven Universe The Movie:
- Ron the Death Eater: Many fans demonize Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz after it was revealed what she did to Spinel. Although what she did was wrong and cruel, many use this to paint her as an irredeemable monster, ignoring everything she would eventually do and constantly bringing up this moment when discussing the character. In actuality this event happened before Pink got any of her Character Development that changed her for the better. Also, it is unknown if she had intended to leave Spinel in the garden for all that time when she first got her colony, but by the time the rebellion happened and the Gems on Earth were corrupted there was obviously no way for her to go back to Spinel even if she wanted to.
They stated "It is fanfic exclusive trope. If you see any YMMV page listing them, delete it." Last I asked, we didn't agree on that course of action, has something changed?
Would Never Live It Down fit this?

Edited by Ferot_DreadnaughtopenEnsemble Darkhorse for Exotic Lair?
There is this channel called Exotic Lair, which features a person looking at his different pets. I am thinking of putting an entry from this channel for a hognose of his, which has gotten rather popular due to its attitude. But I wonder if I should add it: on the one hand, it is a real life figure. On the other hand, the whole narrative of an angry "wannabe-cobra" hognose is a literary invention of Exotic Lair
What do you think?
openRaised by Wolves misuse?
There’s some Raised by Wolves Examples that I think are wrong:
- Dragon Ball: Son Goku accidentally killed his adoptive grandpa while under the influence of the moon as a small child. For an uncertain number of years, he lived on his own in the wilderness, his only interactions 'killing animals' and occasionally 'not killing animals'. Then he killed Bulma's car, and the rest is history.
- His major Raised by Wolves thing is not being able to tell the difference between boys and girls, and considering 'patpat'ing the groin area to be a sane method of differentiation. This is how he wound up engaged to ChiChi.
- His mistaking Bulma's breasts for an extra butt was a tasteless gag that actually worked really well.
- His major Raised by Wolves thing is not being able to tell the difference between boys and girls, and considering 'patpat'ing the groin area to be a sane method of differentiation. This is how he wound up engaged to ChiChi.
- Babe has a variation of this. An orphaned piglet raised to be destined for the Christmas dinner table is taken in by an aging, kindly mother sheepdog who teaches an awkward set of manners to him, and more importantly, sparks an unusual talent in him for herding sheep which puts him off the menu. Somewhat appropriately, sheep in the film refer to dogs as "wolves".
- An episode of Brandy & Mr. Whiskers featured a wild dog named Wolfie who shared the same speech problem as Grimlock. It turns out, he was raised by a monkey who had the same speech problem who was raised by a black jaguar who had the same problem... Which is explained when it turns out the jaguar was, erm, "raised" by a coconut tree. That is, coconuts fell onto the jaguar's head.
openImage change on a work page with no given reason
So two months ago, there was an image change to VideoGame.Fate Grand Order by MarkNick244 with no discussion on its game discussion page, dedicated forum thread, or Image Pickin' forums, and it was reverted back due to lack of discussion warranting the need for image change.
Well it happened again in the exact same manner by the exact same person, still citing no calls to change the image by tropers on its discussion page, its dedicated forum thread, or Image Pickin'. I'll probably bring it to Image Pickin' since the global version is about to start the second arc, but I thought it would be good to check ATT first.
Edited by NouctopenValue dissonance
I was thinking of adding Values Dissonance to YMMV.Gabriel Iglesias about joke/story about Saudia Arabia. When he performed there, there wasn't much fuss over it. Compare that today which is a big issue because of controversial issues and people who perform there, like WWE, facing criticism for it. Would it be hitting too close to real life even its about a person performance?
Edited by WhirlRXopenInformed Species
I think Informed Species may need a cleanup, since the trope is for animals that are not identifiable as the animals they're supposed to be, but a lot of examples are of animals that don't look exactly like their real counterparts (often due to anthropomorphism), even if they're still identifiable as those animals, which I think would go better under Funny Animal Anatomy.
For instance, there was an example I deleted saying that Daffy Duck looked more like a penguin than a duck, even though most people would say he looks pretty duckish. There's also some human examples like Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam, and Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy from SpongeBob SquarePants, even though most audiences can identify them as humans (albeit heavily stylized), along with a bunch of "alligators that look like crocodiles (or vice versa)" examples, even though most people don't know the difference between both crocodilians anyway. There's even an example saying Garfield doesn't look like a cat, even though he is identifiable as one (albeit a stylized cartoon cat).
I think a basic rule of thumb should be this: if you were not told what kind of animal they were supposed to be, would you be able to tell from appearance alone? If the answer is yes, then it doesn't fit.
Following this definition, Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio would qualify, as would the titular Arthur, Disney's Pete, Master Shifu from Kung Fu Panda, the Breadwinners, Ren and Stimpy, and the Looney Tunes Tasmanian Devil and Roadrunner.
I'm also not a fan of the examples that reference other examples. ("Jiminy Cricket looks like Lowly Worm", "Lowly Worm looks like Jiminy Cricket", "Woody Woodpecker looks like Panchito Pistoles and the Roadrunner," etc.)

Analysis. All Just A Dream mentions knowing going in that it's a dream, but I thought that by definition, All Just a Dream is a twist, whereas Dream Episode is when you know going in that it's a dream.
openEdit war on Film.TheRiseOfSkywalker concerning Anakin's parentage
Film. The Rise Of Skywalker is undergoing an edit war concerning one of the Star Wars comics that apparently confirms Palpatine was Anakin's 'father', though from what i understand it was a force-vision and Shmi is already pregnant in said vision. I've seen a lot of people saying it's confirmed but also a lot of people saying it's not true so I'm not sure what to believe. Either way there's an edit war that probably needs to be stopped.

EDIT: According to this Palpatine is NOT anakin's 'father.'
Edited by lalalei2001openAversions of Necessary Weasels
On behalf of MaLady and nombretomado, I table a motion to relax the current restriction that Aversions are only notable for Omnipresent Tropes and to declare aversions of Necessary Weasels notable, as well. The reasoning is that Necessary Weasels are functionally omnipresent in their respective media and genres, and their aversions specifically in works of those genres and media are therefore notable for deliberately toying with the audience's expectations.
I also propose a personal amendment, to be debated independently of the main motion, that the deliberation of an aversion's notability be made relative to the time frame of a specific work's publication. In other words, if a trope isn't omnipresent or a necessary weasel today, but was considered such when the work was published, its aversion is notable in that work because it contributed to the medium or genre's historical shift away from the trope in question.
Edited by KoverasopenEquipmentUpgrade that is merely aestetic? Videogame
Alright, so I was starting to pothole the trope in relation to former Master Skins in Heroes of the Storm -which, for context, look like normal base skins that have been upgraded to look more veteran-like (think of a Warrior with bigger pauldrons, beefier swords, a Cool Helmet, what have you). Then I notice that "In this context, upgrade only means an upgrade in terms of gameplay, not flavour or story. So, switching out different pieces of equipment, even if they're upgrades In-Universe, doesn't count". So I'm not quite sure it would fit this trope anymore, there are a few subtropes listed but not one that would fit better: an Equipment Upgrade that is entirely for aestetic purposes and carries no other changes to the gameplay. Am I missing it, should I carry on and pothole it anyway? Does the trope exist but i didn't see it?
openUploading videos Film
I tried uploading a video to a tropes page. It hasn’t been approved yet, but when I try to play it says it isn’t the right format. Is there a certain format that videos need to be, or does it not play until it’s approved?
openDarkness Induced Audience Apathy in TROS?
On YMMV.The Rise Of Skywalker, I deleted an example of Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy, citing that it was misuse of the trope. A different example of Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy was added with no edit reason. Both entries are just complaining about Happy Ending Override and Esoteric Happy Ending, without citing any hopelessness of setting or any characters being unsympathetic.
The only thing that suffers from Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy is the YMMV page itself.
openRegarding this trope...
So here is the thing, I asked for this in Is this an example?, but got no response. I added this entry in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, and another user deleted it feeling "it was too YMMV"
- Protagonist-Centered Morality: Gogeta, feeling Freeza had enough by being beaten by Broly for a whole hour, let him go in shame, possibly motivated by Goku wrongly thinking they are friends. In the end, we are shown Freeza killing multiple people that could have avoided death if he wasn't spared, but since neither Goku nor Vegeta knows them, they don't matter.
I just want to know if this trope is wrong or incorrect, or it could be added back without any problem.
Edited by Tomodachi
I've seen a couple of pages in which Darker and Edgier is used to describe a character in comparison to their lighter counterparts. I know this trope is generally used to describe a particular work in a franchise/series, so is this still a correct use of the trope? Forgive me if I missed something obvious in the trope description.
