It's probably not troping real life if the example is be something he said during a performance of some kind. For comedians, we make the distinction between "off stage" and "on stage". Generally speaking, the latter can be troped.

If your example is just "he performed in SA", no, it's not valid. If your example is about a joke he made about SA during a show there, it might be okay.

Well, he mentioned in one of his stand up special how he ask for a ridiculous amount of money to perform. Though, in context he thought the offer to perform was just a joke and he told his agent to ask for a ridiculous amount of money thinking they wouldn't pay up.

It's a whole bit Gabriel has where he talks about how he got the gig in the first place (as noted ^) and how it went. I don't remember it well enough offhand to know where Values Dissonance would apply, but it's at least tropeable in the sense that it's an explicit part of his stand-up routine.
