Bringing up this example from The Beautician and the Beast:

  • Esoteric Happy Ending: So Joy convinces Boris Puschenko to give up his President for Life status and allow free elections ... however the movie just ends there, with nothing to say what happened next for the Puschenkos. While Boris had spent the majority of the movie trying to soften up his image, there's still the detail that he's descended from a royal family where his father in particular was unabashedly referred to as a dictator. There's also the fact that while he has allowed unions and the release of the rebel leader, Alek, that still doesn't hide the fact that previously he and his family permitted the use of sweatshops for decades and imprisoned a teenager in what is literally a dungeon just for speaking out against him. There's also the fact that because Boris and his family are descended from royalty, their house, their money, all of their possessions may very well be property of the country, so if Boris were to lose the election (which is very possible, just from people who want a clean change from the previously monarchy) that the Puschenko family may very well be left destitute, with absolutely no real world experience to survive not being waited on hand and foot. And that's even assuming this isn't the sort of country where they might decide to simply do away with the former royal family as opposed to letting them leave peacefully.
    • Of course, they could all just move in with Joy Miller back in America?

So I'm about to add this example to Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022), but I'm worried it may be too wordy. Does anyone know how to cut it down so it gets the point across without being too long?

  • Pop-Culture Urban Legends: Before the film was released, an anonymous 4chan user claimed to have seen the film, and that the villain was Pluto the Pup stealing parts from other toons to upgrade himself. Many online users believed it, due to matching what had been seen in the trailers. (Especially since the subtitles for the second trailer referred to Peter Pan as "Mean Dean", which was the pseudonym Pluto had apparently used in the leaked plot, making many believe Peter would turn out to be Pluto in disguise.) After the film was released and the plot turned out to be different, there are many who believe the 4chan user saw an early cut for the film. However, as of this writing, there has been no confirmation from any of the crew members of this so-called "Pluto cut". In fact, according to the director, the villain was an older Charlie Brown in older drafts.

Bringing up the following example from House of the Dragon:

  • WTH, Casting Agency?: The reveal that Lord Corlys Velaryon would be portrayed by the black actor Steve Toussaint was widely met with criticism due to accusations of racebending, as Valyrians are described as having very pale skin in A Song Of Ice and Fire, and ignoring the lore in favor of pushing for a more diverse cast. The casting announcement had even led to the actor receiving racist messages and being mislabeled as "the black Targaryen". Some those in favor of a more diverse cast have been critical of this particular character being chosen, with the Valyrians' eugenics and inbreedinglly within the family. It also raises some questions given that in the backstory, Alyssa Velaryon wed King Aenys and House Targaryen descends from them, but as that was nearly a century prior it's easily handwaved as some things changed since then - whether longer ago or even as recent as Corlys’ grandmother having been black (for example Summer Islanders are people who are both black and have their own ships, that a sea-faring family encountering is much more likely than not). Or it could be handwaved by how wonky genetics in this universe tend to be such as with Targaryen hair. It should be noted too that the creators had George R.R. Martin's approval for the casting choice.

This monster from BrokenAesop.Western Animation:

"Brawl in the Family": The idea of the episode is to let some conflicts settle by themselves without getting involved, which is technically right as Linc's attempts to settle the fighting prove nothing more than futile. However, given that the sisters' entire protocol results in them not allowing him to do anything simple in the house, such as watching TV or even letting him be in his room, all while going to outrageously stupid lengths just to keep the warring sisters apart without actually letting anyone solve anything, the whole point of the Aesop seems completely moot, since Lincoln’s life is being messed with and thus he has every valid reason to want to stop the fighting. Furthermore, the sisters keep telling Lincoln to stay out of it, yet those who aren’t fighting do every unfair thing just to stop the angry sisters from seeing each other, plus when Lincoln has Luna and Luan switch rooms with Lori and Leni, the former two go at it as to who had the dress first, meaning they just broke their own rules. In the end, the fighting only stops because Lori managed to trick Leni into wearing the dress on all days of the week that don’t end in Y, as in, not wear it at all. Meaning the whole ordeal was all for nothing and the whole system was a complete failure. The moral also falls flat due to prior continuity; in episodes such as "Heavy Meddle," "Study Muffin," and "Cereal Offender," they served nothing but to make the situation worse or awkward for Lincoln, yet he ends up learning a lesson at the end.

From Smiling Friends: The Smiling Friends.

  • Ambiguously Bi: The subtext between him and Pim sometimes has slightly romantic overtones, he likes it when Alan "noms" his nose, and there's a definite sexual tension to him and Mip. He was also delighted by Salt and Pepper kissing. At the same time there's signs of him dating women, but they're very unclear. Pim's future Imagine Spot of his daughter's wedding has Charlie seated next to and holding the hand of a much younger and conventionally attractive woman. Still, all that is just in Pim's head. We also see him arrive for the Halloween party with an unnamed girl in a bikini-clad rat costume, who's one interaction with him could be seen as being his girlfriend, but the dynamic isn't fleshed out enough to know for certain. Additionally, she's present at his funeral but doesn't speak, which could point to her just being another one of Charlie's friends. His interaction with Mustard is also ambiguous. He's not responsive to her advances and his tone seemed to suggest that he didn't understand what she was really suggesting, but his body movements and nervousness afterwards suggest that he did understand, and potentially wanted to fool around with her, but it's unclear.

[up]Remove the excessive descriptions of his backstory, and reduce them to "He lost multiple family members (one of which returned later as a demonic child that screwed over him multiple times in order to show him she was a "monster" now), lost multiple girlfriends (sometimes getting them back, only for them to break up with him) and also died and was brought back as a pawn for multiple alien overlords... It's a wonder the "Gentle" part of Gentle Giant stays with him at all.

Bringing up the following example from Recap.Star Trek S 2 E 12 The Deadly Years:

  • Insane Admiral: Not so much insane as monumentally stupid. Commodore Stocker assumes command of the Enterprise because everyone else above the rank of Lieutenantnote  has been struck by the Rapid Aging disease. Spock recommends Sulu take command as the most experienced bridge officer but Stocker refuses, apparently his pride prevents him from standing idly by while a single-striper is at the conn.note  It should be noted that Stocker wears a Red Shirt, indicating that he works within the operations division of Starfleet, and it is explicitly mentioned that he has no command training or experience. He subsequently proves himself to be a living example of The Dilbert Principle some decades before that term was even coined, since the rookie mistakes he makes in command (crossing into the Romulan Neutral Zone in violation of treaty and against Starfleet regulationsnote , attempting to hail the Romulans who intercepted themnote , and then preparing to surrender to them once it's clear the Enterprise has been beatennote ) are called out by Sulu, Uhura, and even Chekov, an Ensign Newbie not even a year out of the academy. Stocker clearly hasn't been promoted above his level of competence so much as he's been promoted to the place he could do the least harm - at least until his Reassignment Backfire.
    • He's incompetent, not really stupid or prideful. He's from the operations division and appears to not have had any ship command training. Basically, he doesn't understand command well enough to realize he should defer to other officers.

From Terrified of Germs.

  • In the Rugrats episode "Mr. Clean", Chuckie becomes terrified of germs. His father lectures him about germs with his bath puppets after getting himself dirty multiple times. This is the reason why Chuckie became germaphobic. Every time he got dirty Chaz would give him a bath and bring out the bath puppets, and then would tell an increasingly terrified Chuckie about how dangerous germs are. Given how Chuckie is afraid of almost everything, it's no surprise he became neurotic. Chuckie dons a germ-proof "suit" and attempts to force the babies not to play with anything to keep clean. When Chuckie gets stuck in a bush, Tommy tells him that the only way he can get out is if he takes off his germ suit, but Chuckie refuses. He eventually changes his mind when Phil and Lil tell him that the Germs got Tommy—which was Tommy's plan the whole time. Chuckie is horrified, but Tommy tells him that he went in the garbage and nothing bad happened. Seeing that he is right and since he does not want to spend the rest of his life doing nothing, Chuckie decides that he will just play as he did before and just keep an eye out for the germs. The babies then begin to play in the garbage...only for when Chas catches them and gives them all a bath as the episode ends.

Bringing up the following example from Winter's Tale:

  • Adapted Out: Due to the difficulties of turning an 800-page novel into a two-hour film, a great many important characters from the book are entirely or almost entirely absent, including most of the Baymen and the Short Tails gangnote , Reverend Mootfowlnote , Jackson Meadnote , Beverly and Willa's two brothers, Hardesty Marrattanote  and Martin Gamely (Virginia's husband and son from her first marriage, respectively), Virginia's mother, Harry's daughter Jessica, Jessica's fiancĂ© Praeger de Pintonote , and Asbury and Christiana (friends and co-workers of the Penns, Marrattas and Praeger, and later of Peter Lake as well). Peter's childhood friend Cecil Mature, a.k.a. Cecil Wooley, makes it into the film, but his role is greatly reduced, not to mention changed so much that all the two characters have in common is their name and their broad function as Peter's maybe-guardian angel. Basically, the only main characters from the exclusively modern-day sections of the book to make it into the film are Virginia and Abby, with the consequence that the Gamelys are no longer old family friends of the Penns, but just a couple of people Peter meets in the present day through sheer coincidence - though a sharp viewer will notice that Beverly's father does mention that their next-door neighbours are named the Gamelys at one point. Beverly's father, the insanely wealthy Isaac Penn, founder and owner of The Sun and The Whale newspapers, appears only briefly in the film. In the book, he is more consequential, and dies just after Beverly, as though following her.

For the Rugrats example, how 'bout this?:

In the Rugrats episode "Mr. Clean", the already-fearful Chuckie becomes terrified of germs after hearing multiple warnings about them from his dad. He makes his own "germ suit" to protect himself and tries to keep the other babies from playing so they'd stay clean, but then he gets stuck in a bush. Tommy, realising that the only way to get out is to take the suit off, uses logic to point out that they all played without suits before and nothing bad happened.

Bringing up the following examples from PopCultureUrbanLegends.Music:

  • Various bands have been accused of bringing various animals (usually puppies) to a show and having them thrown into the audience and stating they weren't going to start the show until all the animals were dead. KISS, Marilyn Manson, and Ozzy got this one the most. The rumours seem to stem from a real incident that happened during a Alice Cooper show, when fans threw a chicken on-stage and Cooper, having grown up in urban Detroit, threw it back under the assumption that it would fly away, only for the flightless bird to fall into and get torn to shreds by the audience. When news media exaggerated the incident to claim Cooper had sacrificed the chicken on-stage as part of a Satanic ritual, Frank Zappa asked him about the incident, and upon hearing the true story, told them, "Whatever you do, don't tell anyone you didn't do it." Another band, Coven, did hold Satanic masses on-stage during their lifetime, but none of them involved animal sacrifice. Another possible source is the notorious incident in 1977 where John Cale, in order to troll vegetarian band members and the audience, chopped a chicken up with a cleaver on stage in London, although in that case the chicken was already dead. The rumours about it being Ozzy were so widely believed he was cautioned by many local police about not doing animal sacrifices. His own real antics (biting the head off a pigeon, accidentally biting the head off a bat thinking it was rubber) didn't help this rumour at all.

  • There are several classic rock guitarists whom Jimi Hendrix is alleged to have described as the best guitarist in the world, including Phil Keaggy of the Christian rock group Glass Harp (who for his own part claims it is impossible for Hendrix to have heard his playing because his band only recorded their first album two weeks after Hendrix's death), Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top (Hendrix did make a passing reference to Gibbons in an interview and described him as a young guitarist whose playing impressed him shortly before he died, which has inflated in grandiosity with the passage of time) and Terry Kath of Chicago (usually represented as Hendrix claiming "Terry Kath is a better guitarist than me" or "Terry Kath is the best guitarist in the universe", the provenance of which is not entirely clear). What is known is that Hendrix had acknowledged Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck as important influences on his own playing in the mid-1960s, and expressed admiration for many others, but it's not definitively clear if he highlighted a particular musician as the world's best on the instrument.

Found this on Humanizing Tears

  • Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach does this with an animatronic, of all things. An animatronic who is not possessed by a ghost, no less; Roxanne Wolf, a new addition to the Fazbear Band, is initially presented a straight-up Narcissist, admiring and praising herself in the mirror. While hunting the possibly homeless Gregory, she taunts him with insults such as "I bet you don't even have friends." and "Nobody will miss you!". Later on, however, the player is treated to a scene of her crying in her room (yes, the animatronics in this game have their own rooms), telling herself she is not a loser, revealing she has self-esteem issues, which has led more than a few players to suspect that her insults are actually what she thinks of herself deep down. It should also be noted that despite her flaws, Roxanne is not inherently evil; she is only trying to kill Gregory because Vanny brainwashed her. According to Glamrock Freddy (who isn't brainwashed and knows Roxanne personally), she is actually supposed to be more like him. After the player runs Roxanne over with a go-kart and steals her eyes, she sobs constantly, trying to assure herself that she is still beautiful and still loved. Many players have expressed a desire to free Roxanne from the brainwashing and give her a hug, even the ones who don't give her Draco in Leather Pants treatment.
