Memetic X Cleanup

We've got a few Genshin fans in our circles, and we've never heard Google Classroom brought up in relation to it. That's weak evidence, to be sure, but it's what we've got.

Could I get some input on this post from last page?

Complaining memes are valid. The real question are they memes in the first place (massively copypasted or have popular artistic edits) and I know nothing about animated Yugioh fandom.

Hmm. Well, I'll admit I've never heard the first one before but I also wasn't around in the fandom when the ending initially aired. I don't know if it not existing anymore counts for anything.

The second one and third ones I've never seen get compared in a meme kind of way. Maybe it's best to cut those two, at least, unless someone brings actual evidence.

The second and third bullets seem more like just sentiments/non-memey opinions. Personally, I feel they're cut-worthy. As for the first bullet, it could be valid as a meme, but it looks like it might just be taking an existing meme from another work, which I think can be cut if it doesn't originate from the work of the page it's on.

Complaining memes are actually valid? Alright then, I'll leave the Genshin Google Classrooms thing alone since it is a running joke within the fandom given the absurdity of last year's anniversary review bombing debacle.

At least that's what I've seen here and in Complaining thread. But if something appears to be a snarky comment and not Memetic Mutation, it gets removed for misuse/ROCEJ anyway.

Right; complaining memes are valid if they're real memes.

nearly all of the examples on YMMV.Sonic Frontiers seem more like "observations/complaints framed as memes" than actual memes, though i can't say i'm familiar with which ones are actual memes. could someone with more knowledge help out here?

the only ones i've really seen as actual widespread memes are "sega hired that man" and the dick-shaped cyloop, i don't know if the rest are insular to the sonic fandom or just like. statements. framed as memes

Not sure about a bunch of those, though just at a glance, the "Momentum", "Nintendo made a better Sonic Frontiers trailer...", "It's the exact same level design", maybe "Cyberspace 1-2", and maybe "T-posing seagull" (depending on if people are making jokes; as written, it's just "Here's a complaint people have") entries just seem to be listing sentiments rather than jokes, which I think should be cut.

So, which of these should be cut for merely being bashing and not a meme?

• Memetic Mutation:
  • FOUR MILLION DOLLARS^Explanation Most commonly from the game's detractors, when speaking of the game's overall quality. Never mind that the game's engine had to be able to fit the 900K budget that was the actual backing goal for the core game, as everything after was purely for the heaps and heaps of stretch goals being met. Additionally, some of the backers have said this too — expressing surprise that the game was released in what is perceived to be an Obvious Beta after several delays and with the 900k goal.
  • From the Masterclass trailer:
    • "And make the bad guys cry like an anime fan on prom night!"^Explanation An infamous line from the Masterclass trailer. Considering there is a large overlap between anime fans and video game fans (let alone Mega Man fans), it didn't go over well. The line has since seen many snowclones, such as "Make the bad guys cry like the Mighty No. 9 devs on launch night!"
    • Do you like awesome things that are awesome?^Explanation Another line from the trailer at the start.
    • The Pizza Explosion.^Explanation  A nickname for the extremely cheap explosion effects around the 0:50 mark in the same trailer. Naturally, this was heavily mocked.
    • Dashing^Explanation The Masterclass trailer put a lot of emphasis on the Video Game Dashing.
    • "Keiji Inafune is about to make you his bitch."^Explanation As a response to the infamous "Anime Fans on Prom Night" line, people have compared that to another infamous tagline to a game from an previously acclaimed director that was hyped upon its announcement but then fell victim to Schedule Slip, backlash from questionable marketing decisions, and poor reception upon release.
  • Mediocre No. 5.6^Explanation The number comes from IGN's review of the the game, which feels that the game is merely So Okay, It's Average after all this time and money led to the game receiving this derogatory name on the internet.
    • Similarly, Giant No. 2, or similar variants thereof, because you know...
  • "It's better than nothing."^Explanation  A phrase said by Ben Judd but incorrectly attributed to Inafune (Judd was his translator), which was given during a livestream of the game meant to drum up hype about the quality of the game and its ports.
  • "He's a businessman. Not a creator."^Explanation A response from Hideki Kamiya about Keiji Inafune, tweeted in September 2012 (Mighty No. 9's Kickstarter launched in August 2013) that corrected a fan about Inafune's career, that he was never the guy leading the projects he works on, only being a producer at most. Kamiya later clarified that he saw him as a good businessman for what he achieved at Capcom◊. However, when this tweet was dug up again out of context as the problems with Mighty No. 9 grew, it became a favorite statement to repeat among critics of both the game and Inafune, with many assuming the tweet was Kamiya taking a jab towards Inafune. One of the backers of the game (Number 5040) even named himself "Kamiya was right" to be put in the credits of the game, just to spite him.
  • "PEW PEW PEW!"^Explanation Cryosphere's habit of Saying Sound Effects Out Loud, which coupled with her annoying, high-pitched voice easily makes this annoying, especially since she shoots frequently enough to cut herself off with her own voice lines. The fact that she is a Goddamned Boss means that you'll probably be hearing this a lot.
  • [Ad Lib Moaning In Pain]^Explanation A script direction for RAY's level that was left in both the demo build and final build◊ of the game. It's since been used in a derogatory fashion. However, the computer versions corrected this oversight.
  • FOUR HOUR WALL OF SHAME^Explanation The credits for the game are an absurd four hours long, prompting snarky responses from the detractors. This was caused by the large amount of Kickstarter backers, as well as the game listing "A Generous Backer" hundreds of times instead of condensing it to a single listing.
  • Shigeru Miyamoto once gave the quote "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad". People like to take pictures of Miyamoto with this quote, add a picture from Mighty No. 9, and then make a snarky remark about how Miyamoto isn't always right. (Another joke is to have Miyamoto say the same quote, then look at Mighty No. 9 gameplay and immediately retract his statement.)^note Similar jokes are also made at the expense of Duke Nukem Forever
  • DOGGY^Explanation Countershade repeatedly calls Beck "doggy". This did not go unnoticed by the fans.
    • ADIOS^Explanation Countershade throws out this line whenever he teleports after taking damage. He says it a lot.

Recall most of them being memes, but maybe some are low on context and unsure if popular quotes count as memes.

At the least the Master C Lass, better than nothing, [ad lib moaning in pain], and wall of shame ones can stay. The "businessman not a creator" line can probably go though, it's a common discussion topic but not really a meme.

On Strange World there was this entry

But Cylon changed it to this

The memes I've seen they've been memeing about Disnet, not media, should I change it back?

It's part of a greater category of memes relating to the company, but we do allow for work-specific versions of that meme, like on Cruella.

I mean Cylon changed it to say that it the media was announcing the "first gay character" and not Disney

Also I should note Cylon had originally added a couple responses to the main entry that were basically saying the same thing they later changed it to that I cut for being Natter

I'd revert it; to my knowledge, it was Disney advertising that as such.

The YMMV page for "22 Short Films About Springfield" lists Steamed Hams as an example, which yeah valid, but it then goes on to list 27 random examples of the meme which is way overkill.

I think just the first part of the entry ('In late 2017 and early 2018, the Skinner and the Superintendent segment, now better known as Steamed Hams, took a life of its own, and had been reinvented over and over on YouTube. Though nobody knows why. It's a go-to pop culture reference in the YouTube comments, as well.') works perfectly fine.

Yeah, those extraneous bullets can be removed.

I agree that those examples of Steamed Hams should be cut because I don't feel they're needed.

I went here because on YMMV.Bear In The Big Blue House, Mayu Is Best Girl 41 tried to expand on the bottom two examples sometime after I commented them out, but I still feel like they don't have enough context. Here are all of the examples:

• Memetic Mutation:
  • The now seemingly lost Bear in The Big Brown Poop (as it's name suggests, it's a You Tube Poop), has a purposely done mondegreen from the Once an Episode closing song: Tomorrow just died today... (granted, though, many of the fans felt this way when the show ended)
  • Bear's dancing◊. There's just something strangely hypnotic about Bear when he does the cha-cha and the suit jiggles as shown.
  • The insanity of Bear With A Dfuck House. ProZD's voice-acting helps add to the weirdness.
  • This never-before-seen outtake of Ojo and Tutter cussing at each other caught on in October 2022, if simply because of the audacity of the whole thing.

Also, the Bear dancing one feels gushy.

So I'm kinda new to this forum, so apologies if I miss anything, but what's the policy on meme pages here? Cuz uh... This meme page for Pocahontas seems a bit lacking with only three entries. I can at least confirm the first entry/page image is valid, saw it circle around the internet a bit.

I'd say it's too short and can be merged back with YMMV/.

As a Muppet fan I can confirm that the swear tape really was a hot topic in the fandom when it was first found. I still occasionally see people use "c'mon hoebag, gimme chicken pot pie!" as a Tutter quote when he is brought up.

Is this an actual meme in the fandom cause I don’t recall ever seeing this joke in it outside of this wiki.
