Useful Tips:

  • Make sure that the example makes sense to both people who don't know the work AND don't know the trope.
    • Wrong: The Mentor: Kevin is this to Bob in the first episode.
    • Right: The Mentor: Kevin takes Bob under his wing in the first episode and teaches him the ropes of being a were-chinchilla.
  • Never just put the trope title and leave it at that.
    • Wrong: Badass Adorable
    • Right: Badass Adorable: Xavier, the group's cute little mascot, defeats three raging elephants with both hands tied behind his back using only an uncooked spaghetti noodle.
  • When is normally far less important than How.
    • Wrong: Big Bad: Of the first season.
    • Right: Big Bad: The heroes have to defeat the Mushroom Man lest the entirety of Candy Land's caramel supply be turned into fungus.
  • A character name is not an explanation.

I'm seeing that a lot of trivia pages for anime like Granbelm, Domestic Girlfriend, Record Of Grancrest War, Ulysses Jeanne D Arc And The Alchemist Knights and Rascal Does Not Dream Of Bunny Girl Senpai have entries for Relationship Voice Actor that list every last connection between voice actors that worked in the same anime, even if those connections are mild at best and those actors' characters rarely interact. What should we do about this?

From YMMV.Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs:

  • Did Snow White and the Prince really have a case of Love at First Sight? Or did they know each other before?
    • The latter is confirmed via the official comic book adaptation by IDW, as Snow White meets the Prince under the impression that he is a servant to the Prince.

Should the second bullet point be removed? The comic was written decades afterwards.

[up][up] I feel like all of these examples need more context... Or any context at all.

All of their Trivia subpages are just a bunch of potholes and creator names. What's the relationship in the supposed Relationship Voice Actor? How are you supposed to know anything without having watched both shows for each bullet point and remembering the characters, especially if they rarely interact? We don't even know the "connection" between them. I'd vote for cutting that entire section on each page.

Compare some of the examples on RelationshipVoiceActor.Japanese. This is bad and doesn't tell someone anything, especially if they're unfamiliar with the works:

    Two creators

And then there's this one:

Two creators in a Will They Or Won't They relationship
  • For the remainder of the late-Eighties, Tōru Furuya and Hiromi Tsuru would be paired together in some of the most defining anime of that decade as a destined couple whose romantic situations often exemplify the "Will They or Won't They?" premise. Furuya is the boyish oaf attracted to Tsuru, the unattainable dream girl. His clumsiness or wrong choice of words (as a result of both the nervousness and cowardice to act on his feelings) initially puts her off; but as they gradually get to know each other, his good nature and sincerity eventually wins her heart.

From Dota 2 Strength A To M:

  • Obvious Rule Patch:
    • One of Io's level 20 talents is that it can make a second auto-attack on a target that it's tethered ally is attacking. While that doesn't sound bad and seemed rather balanced, that changed when Tether has a permanent duration. Players then began exploting this by building a Desolator and when combined with a carry that can either hit fast or attack all targets, it can easily add a lot of DPS alongside the carry and it can easily reach the level thanks to it's exp boost talent. This particularly come to a head when a pro team managed to destroy both towers and ancient in a base race despite the fact that the buildings are under backdoor protection. Come 7.16, Io's attack talent is now moved to level 25 which not only slows down its DPS but made players force to pick between either it or the lower Relocate cooldown.
    • One of Io's old level 20 talents (heck, it was a level 15 talent back then!) is the ability for Tether to grant it's bound ally an Aghanim's Scepter upgrade. This essentially lets its allies have a free 4200 gold item and the buffs to their certain abilities so long as Io is Tethered to them. The most blatant offender of this was Gyrocopter, and there were many a game that had this classic combo. It was so broken that by 7.22d, it was removed altogether, in its place a decent +15 Armor talent.
    • Io's Aghanim's Scepter talent allows Spirits to passively move around Io. Combined with the level 10 Spirits Apply Slow talent and level 15 +75 Spirits Hero Damage talent, this made carry Io a monster to deal with once level 15 + Aghs is reached, and almost guaranteed a game over for the enemy. Look no further than OG's borderline game-breaking use of carry Io at The International 2019, which included the tournament-winning game in the Grand Finals. Come 7.22g, the Spirits Apply Slow talent was moved to level 15, the +75 Spirits Hero Damage talent was moved to level 20, and in place of the old level 10 talent was a +90 Gold/Minute talent, thereby making Io's power spike come much later, which, hopefully by then the enemy can be able to deal with.

Is this example valid? It seems like just another nerf to me, instead of what the trope really encompasses (a new universal rule being introduced to remedy a specific situation).

Reposting from the previous page.

In Sakura Wars, Maria Tachibana started off as a soldier for the White Army during the 1917 Russian Revolution. After her captain was gunned down, however, Maria became a sniper. Three years later, she traveled to New York City to became a mafia hitwoman. Eventually, Maria went back to camouflage when she was recruited into the Imperial Combat Revue's Flower Division to fight the demons. Does that count as an example of From Camouflage to Criminal?

Also, in High School DXD, Riser Phenex comes from a noble family. Unlike his siblings, Riser presents himself as an initially cocky and prideful person until Issei Hyoudou defeats him. Does he count as a true Black Sheep?

[up][up]

I'd agree that those sound like plain-old Nerfs.

When I think of Obvious Rule Patch in regards to Dota, I think of something like how Slardar can't build Basher, or how Creeps stopped pathing around obstacles like Clockwerk Cogs / Earthshaker Fissure around 6.8 or something and instead just stopped in place. Basically, bandages to the game rather than outright nerfing what made the respective things broken.

EDIT

[up]

That seems like a valid example in Sakura Wars: military into mafia. Coming back to the military later is just side information, it'd be more useful to expand on how she sniped people as a hitman or something. The idea of the trope is that she used her skills from war for crime when she became a civilian.

Riser Phoenix doesn't seem like an example as-written. The Black Sheep trope page describes it as more extreme than just "isn't like the others"; he has to be in-conflict with different ideals. Being "unlike his siblings" and "cocky and prideful" doesn't really mean much.

  • Marge's Beehive Hairdo. In the 1970s and 1980s, that hairstyle, along with other "big hair" styles were at the forefront of hair trends. So a woman having that hairstyle in a sitcom made sense and fit the era. However, as the 1990s went on, the trend died out, and emphasis was placed on longer and/or less voluminous hair. By the 2000s, the beehive and other styles of the 1980s were considered completely retro. Anyone with Marge's hairstyle today would be very conspicuous. In the Season 28 episode "Moho House", Marge inexplicably has a more modern, shorter hairstyle for a majority of the episode. This is likely what hairstyle Marge would have if the show premiered today.

Is this example from TheArtifact. The Simpsons accurate? I always heard Marge's hair was an intentionally outdated 1960s reference.

I have a question regarding the They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character entries in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. There is an entry mentioning several characters that are only mentioned by other characters, but never actually show up in person. Can they still qualify for They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character if they don't actually make any appearances?

I think this is misuse? Gems emerge as adults mentally speaking, so they can never actually be babies.

Steven Universe: The Movie:

  • Fountain of Youth: The rejuvenator physically and mentally turns rebellious Gems back to the way they were when they first emerged, essentially turning them into the Gem equivalent of babies.

From Girliness Upgrade:

  • In the classic era of Sonic The Hedgehog, Amy Rose was a tomboy, sporting a less girly and more colorful outfit. When she got redesigned for Sonic Adventure, she equipped a more feminine outfit and girly traits, such as love for shopping and the color red as her main color.

I'm not seeing it. Classic Amy seems as girly as her modern persona.

On Video Game/Deltarune under Foreshadowing. Noelle isn't confirmed as dead at all. She might die when Chapter 2 releases, but until such a thing happens I think this isn't Foreshadowing. Anyone think I shouldn't remove this?

  • In one of Toby Fox's updates, Noelle is dressed up as an angel. Guess what her horns are shaped like? A not so subtle reference to her angel-form is the "deer in the headlights" joke her dad makes, add to that his ambiguous reason for being in the hospital, seems to all be foreshadowing of her eventual death.

I noticed this entry under Born Winner:

  • On a lesser scale, Fluttershy, despite being a Pegasus, has innate skill when it comes to interacting with animals, a power that is usually reserved to Earth ponies. Even though her flight skills are shown to be lacking in comparison to other Pegasi, she still gets two racial powers when most ponies only get one.

I thought that Rainbow Dash would be a better fit for the Born Winner trope, and the ability described here isn't exactly badass like the trope wants it to be. Should I replace?

So, I recently created a page for Arcanum and work on filling it with tropes. There is a trope that plays a major part in the story, and yet I'm not sure if it quite fits, namely Mundane Luxury.

The story takes place in a low fantasy sort of setting, basically medieval with a bunch of wizards sitting in their ivory towers. The protagonist has spent most of her life in the slums, only having access to scarce amounts of food and making all her clothes and equipment out of garbage. During the sotry she sneaks into a special school for magic-users — basically Hogwarts, but a bit more luxurious — where she finds herself amazed at things like cafeteria full of not-rotten food and those weird magical things called toilets. The problem is, those things are not necessarily mundane by the standards of the setting — while the protagonist was definitely worse off than most of the populace, the wealth available for magic-users is definitely above what most peasants or townsmen could aspire towards.

I guess my question is: Does the "luxury" in Mundane Luxury has to be luxurious by the viewer's perception, or by the standards of the setting?

Apathy is Death. Worse than Death, because at least a rotting corpse feeds beasts and insects.
