Into The Veesha-verse provides examples of:

    open/close all folders
    Series-wide
  • Gratuitous German: Masha peppers their speech with German words. For example, they call their girlfriend Vee their "Schatz"note  and refer to "Hühnersuppe" note .
  • Humanshifting: As in canon, Vee mostly uses her shapeshifting to turn into a humanoid, so that she can blend in with human society.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Masha is more interested in Vee after they realize that Vee is really a basilisk, with her true form resembling a mix of a pug and a snake. They also beg her to take them to the Boiling Isles, finding "living on a giant decaying carcass in a world of magic and witchcraft 'metal as hell.'"
  • Log Fic: Part of "Vee and Masha Go On a Tour (But Really It's a Date)" and "The Isles According to Luz" is written in the form of a log of texts between Masha and Vee.
  • Race Lift: Downplayed with Masha. While their family's national origin is never mentioned in canon, their grandparents are German here.
  • Raised by Grandparents: Masha lives with their grandparents, with their parents never being mentioned.

The Real Me. The Real Vee.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Masha is listed in Vee's phone contacts as "Monster Mash 💛🤍💜🖤"
  • Queer Colors: Downplayed. Masha's caller ID includes "💛🤍💜🖤", which are the order of colors in the nonbinary pride flag. They also have their nails painted those colors.
  • Stopped Dead in Their Tracks: Vee stops smiling after she realizes that Masha figured out that she's a basilisk.
  • The Unmasking: Vee is forced to reveal herself as a basilisk after Masha finds footage of her shifting into human form.

Vee and Masha Go On a Tour (But Really It's a Date)
  • Cool Old Guy: Masha's grandfather David seems to accept the fact that his grandchild is nonbinary, and treats Masha's girlfriend with nothing other than politeness and respect. He even playfully teases Masha about that fact that they are adamantly denying that they're taking Vee out on a date, and reminds the both of them to enjoy themselves.
  • Deathbringer the Adorable: Subverted. Zargothrax, Devourer of Souls turns out to be a giraffe that eats the souls of witches.
  • Kids Driving Cars: Downplayed and justified. Vee, a 15 year old, shapeshifts into Camilla, an adult, so that she won't be arrested if she is pulled over because Camilla has a license and of legal driving age. note
  • Killer Rabbit: Justified. Zargothrax appears to be a normal giraffe, but turns out be one of the oldest demons on the Boiling Isles, banished to the human realm for "devouring the souls of witchlings".
  • Misplaced Retribution: Vee and Masha were banned from the zoo for a year for apparently causing a giraffe to explode, even though there isn't really a way for two teenagers to explode a giraffe without anyone noticing.
  • Not a Date: Masha insists to their grandfather that they aren't going out on a date with Vee, but he sees through it pretty easily.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: A giraffe at the zoo blows up. Turns out the giraffe was a demon and was defeated by another demon.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Vee turns into Camilla to be able to legally drive a car. As she puts it, "Cops probably wouldn't find it funny if they saw a 15 year-old girl without a license and no form of identification whatsoever driving around in a seemingly stolen car."

    My Treasure
  • Artistic License – Linguistics:
    • Masha says that "Kannst du die Tür bitte schließen?" is a polite way to "ask someone to close the door." In German, there are two ways of addressing a person, du and Sie. You would only use du with children or people close to you and would use Sie for either people you don't know or people you are giving respect to.example  Masha is correct if they are only talking about people you know, but it isn't if you are talking to someone you don't (or your boss).
    • Vee says that du is the way to address someone directly in German, ignoring the existence of Sie. Though Sie can be used as an equivalent to a plural they, a singular she, or a singular it, it wouldn't be capitalized in that context. This could be justified, because Vee is still learning the language.
  • As Long as It Sounds Foreign: In-universe. Vee figures that "scheißen" is close enough to "schließen" that Masha will understand it. Masha, after they're done laughing, explains that while "schließen" means close, "scheißen" means shit. Vee accidentally asked Masha if they could shit the door instead of closing it.
  • Conveniently Precise Translation: Subverted and played for laughs. Vee tries to translate German word-for-word, but quickly realizes that the syntax doesn't quite add up.
    Will you my sweetheart be?
  • Fun with Foreign Languages: Vee mixes up "Kannst du die Tür bitte schließen" note  with "Kannst du die Tür bitte scheißen". note  This essentially turns a normal sentence into a profanity-laden poop joke.

"So That’s What Those Colors Mean!"
  • Celibate Hero: As in canon, Lilith doesn't enjoy dating and prefers to remain single. Justified, as she is aromantic and asexual.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Vee initially thinks that Pride Month has something to do with lions, though quickly realizes that she's wrong and asks Masha.
  • Gay Aesop: Extremely downplayed. After Vee tells Masha about how Luz tried to play matchmaker between Lilith and Steve, and mentions that Lilith is aromantic-asexual, Masha asks Vee if Luz tried to force them to date. When Vee responds that no, she didn't, Masha tells Vee that sexual orientations should be respected.
  • Mundane Utility: When Masha tells Vee about gender-affirming surgeries and hormones, Vee mentions that if she wants to change her appearance, her shapeshifting allows her to do it on a whim.

    The Isles According to Luz
  • Animate Inanimate Object: In Chapter 2, Luz calls Juanito, a sentient locker that basically acts like an affectionate dog.
  • All Animals Are Dogs: Exaggerated. Juanito, a sentient locker, acts like a dog. It is espicially fond of licking Luz's hand.
  • Back from the Dead: As in canon, Luz came back from the dead after Belos killed her because the Boiling Isles itself revived her.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Luz is much more so than in canon. She neglects to mention major details that others would consider pretty damn important, and focuses on minutiae. For example, she finds the fact that she had a "magical girl transformation" in the finale more important than the fact that she died and came back to life.
  • Commonality Connection: Vee and Hunter bond over the fact that Belos had hurt them both.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: Masha and Vee quickly realize that Luz treats horrific things that happened to her as if they were the most mundane things ever. Case in point, Luz points out the bridge that Lilith threw her off of as if it was a normal bridge. Luz treats her coming back from the dead after Belos killed her like an afterthought while explaining what happened to Vee.
  • Cuteness Overload: Masha tells Vee that if she can't defeat demons by fighting them, she can "stare at them with [her] big puppy dog eyes" until they die of "the cuteness".
  • Facepalm: Vee facepalms after she realizes that Luz isn't exactly normal.
  • Giant Corpse World: As in canon, the Boiling Isles's landmass consists of the dead, decaying, corpse of a titan. The only person that finds this remotely appealing is Masha, which is more an indicator of their Nightmare Fetishist tendencies than anything else.
  • Giant Flyer: Downplayed. Luz expands her familiar Stringbean so that Vee and Masha can ride her too. Stringbean can also fly, as in canon.
  • Horse of a Different Color: Luz rides her familiar Stringbean, who is a snake.
  • Let Me Get This Straight...: Vee tries to confirm all the crazy things that Luz just told her.
So, let me get this straight. You had an entire power of love dance thing with Amity that blew up Grom, but you thought you were 'just friends' or something? If that doesn’t scream 'Oh my Titan, I am infatuated with you,' then I don’t know what does. How did you not know that she was stupidly in love with you?
  • Luminescent Blush: Vee's face turns into a bright-red cherry tomato after her partner Masha tells her that she can kill demons with her puppy-dog eyes.
  • Menagerie of Misery: Inverted. Edric's side of Blight Manor is such a nice place that the animals arrive and stay there willingly.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: Subverted. Masha tells Vee that she can defend them using her basilisk strength, but Vee cites her scrawny arms as one of the reasons she cannot.
  • Oblivious to Love: Vee makes fun of pre-mid-Season 2 Luz's tendency to ignore Amity's blatant feelings for her.
  • Ship Tease: Vee notes that Viney looks at Emira like she looks at her partner Masha. Viney also makes visits to Blight Manor just to see Emira.
  • This Is My Side: After Odalia mysteriously disappeared and Alador left, Edric and Emira managed to split the manor down the middle with a thick black line. The left side went to Edric and the right to Emira.

An Uncommon Case Of The Common Mold
  • Anatomically Ignorant Healing: Inverted and then averted. Masha, a human, doesn't know how to help their basilisk girlfriend Vee after she comes down with the common mold. After they call Luz, Luz tells them to do nothing and just wait for Vee to get over it, which they do.
  • Bland-Name Product: Masha makes Vee a can of "Bellcamp’s Classic Chicken Noodle Soup".
  • Involuntary Shapeshifting: Vee can't control her shapeshifting powers while inflicted with the common mold.
  • Soup Is Medicine: Masha feeds chicken noodle soup to Vee when she's sick. It doesn't cure her, but it does make her feel better.

    Who Can It Be Now?

    The Second Re-Vee-al
  • Dark Secret: Vee's is that she is keeping the fact that she is not actually Luz Noceda from the rest of Cabin Seven. She finally decides to come clean about this.
  • Let Me Get This Straight...: Axel summarizes everything that Luz and Vee just told him to confirm that he understood it correctly.
Alright, let me make sure I understand everything. You went to the Demon Realm, where Vee is from, and became a witch and murdered a dictator because he tried to kill everyone. And all the while, you were posing as Luz at Reality Check camp and learning how to be human at the same time because you’re actually a shapeshifting demon from Not-Hell wanting to escape being hunted.

The Life of the (Costume) Party
  • For Halloween, I Am Going as Myself: Vee attends a costume party in her true basilisk form because most people would assume that it is a costume instead of her secretly being a demon from another dimension.
