Humans

    General
  • Humans Are the Real Monsters: Demons, vampires, and angels seem to believe this at least. The human magic cults and organizations in this story are depraved at best and sickeningly atrocious at worst. The tendency of humans to engage in immoral experimentation and push boundaries that should not be pushed when left on their own is remarked on by several vampires, and in the Chapter 43, Shinoa's squad agrees that the JIDA is actually a more dangerous than the vampires, who for the most part only care about their next meal.

Family

One of the orphans from the Hyakuya Orphanage.

  • Brain in a Jar: In Chapter 46, it is revealed that Ferid preserved her disembodied head. He shows the jar to the Shinoa squad, Yu and Mika. Seeing this made Yu go berserk and try to kill Ferid.
  • Disposable Woman: She's killed off in the first chapter/episode, along most of the orphans, to fuel Yuu's desire for revenge against vampires and Mika's Survivor Guilt.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: Fitting her role as the Team Mom, she cooked curry for the other children using the ingredients Mika got from Ferid.
  • Hopeless Suitor: She had a crush on Mika, but he only saw her as a younger sister at most.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: In the prequel, she meets Mahiru when she arrives to "adopt" a boy from the Hyakuya Orphanage. Akane thinks Mahiru is a good and nice person, unaware that Mahiru was a cruel and murderous demon who planned to use the boy to make a deal with the vampires.
  • Motherly Side Plait: She wore a braid over her left shoulder, fitting her role as the Team Mom to the group of orphans.
  • Nice Girl: From what little is seen of her, Akane was a caring and gentle girl.
  • Off with Her Head!: Ferid kills her by cutting off her head.
  • Plot-Triggering Death: Her death along with other orphans was the main reason why Yu wants to kill vampires. It's also what caused Mika to constantly blame himself and become the bitter man he is today.
  • Puppy Love: She had a one-sided crush on Mika since both were under ten years old.
  • Team Mom: As the oldest girl, she was like a mother to the other orphans.

  • Psycho Knife Nut: The father stabbed Yuu with a knife because he thought Yuu was a demon.
  • Self-Immolation: When Yuu was left in a burning building, his mother committed suicide by burning herself to death.
  • Unnamed Parent: Their names are never revealed, but their surname was "Amane" since that was Yuu's surname before he got taken to the orphanage.

  • Power Gives You Wings: She gains two pairs of white feathered wings on her back after awakening as a seraph.

  • Disposable Woman: The sole purpose of her existence is being the motive behind her brother Yoichi's quest for revenge against Lacus, the vampire that killed her.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She was a cute young girl and her hair is tied in two pigtails.
