"You know, I used to be like you, Boscha. Obsessed with status, challenging my competition, but I grew up. When will you?"

A gifted young Witch who is the top student in Willow's former "Abominations 101" class at Hexside as well as the school's resident Academic Alpha Bitch, and the youngest daughter of the highly influential Blight Family. While she is initially antagonistic to Luz and Willow, she eventually warms up to them.

    A-C
  • Abusive Parents: In "Understanding Willow", Willow's parents force her to end her friendship with Willow, a social class issue. In "Escaping Expulsion", she learns about her abusive mother, Odalia, and her father, Alador. Amity tries to repair her relationship with her father, who realizes the harm caused by his neglect. In "Clouds on the Horizon", Odalia is revealed as an Evil Matriarch, allowing Belos to kill everyone on the Boiling Isles.
  • Academic Alpha Bitch: Amity is a relentless grade-grubber who is furious when someone takes her place as the top student. She puts immense pressure on herself, leading to her being no longer the top student at Hexside, which is something she has grown to be okay with.
  • Academic Athlete: On top of being Hexside's top student, she used to be the Banshees' grudgby captain and still has the skills.
  • The Ace: She is one of the most talented Witches of her age, and was specifically scouted to join the Emperor's Coven by then Coven Head Witch Lilith as Lilith's own protégé. Her talent is such that with a surprisingly small amount of practice, she gets strong enough to deconstruct her father Alador's own Abomitons when she saves Luz, with Alador himself noting that she could surpass his rival Darius and become the head of the Abomination Coven. She even fights evenly with Hunter when they meet in "Eclipse Lake", Hunter himself being regarded as a Teen Prodigy.
  • Actress Allusion: In "Eclipse Lake", Amity carries around a jar of abomination goo on her belt for quick use and utilizes it during her battle with Hunter for the portal key, much like Katara's waterskin, and even controls it in much the same way, befitting their shared voice actress.
  • Actually Pretty Funny: Amity is usually a sour/stoic, no-nonsense kind of girl, but Luz, through her usual antics and bright personality, can generally get her to laugh no matter how dire the situation, first seen when they are escaping being sewn into Otabin's giant book and Luz admits that she didn't have a plan and lets out a shout in admitting it.
  • Adventurer Archaeologist: The "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue shows she is working for Lilith's new museum as a procurer of ancient literature.
  • Aesop Amnesia:
  • Affectionate Nickname:
    • Amity's older siblings refer to her as "Mittens", a nickname that can be embarrassing or patronizing. In "King's Tide", Alador uses his magic to make her "mittens" for her cold hands, revealing the origin of the nickname.
    • As of "Eclipse Lake", Eda has taken to calling her "Bossy Boots" — "Boots" for short. In "Follies of the Coven day Parade", she and Luz call each other "Batata" or its English translation: sweet potato.
  • Against the Grain: Amity was once forced to break up with Willow, her best friend, and have friends she hated but her parents — specifically her mother, Odalia — considered suitable. They also expected her to join the Emperor's Coven when she was old enough, and she dyed her hair green like her mother. After befriending Luz and the rest of the Owl House gang, she learns she can be appreciated without having to follow others' expectations: she becomes Luz' girlfriend, dyes her hair purple, refuses to join the coven and makes friends with Willow again.
  • Alpha Bitch: She was this prior to her Character Development. After that, Boscha takes her place.
  • All Witches Have Cats: "Eclipse Lake" shows a bond with Amity and a White Cat Palisman named Ghost due to her desire to be free from her Abusive Parents, who force her to conform to their desires.
  • Amazon Chaser: When Luz makes their Big Entrance in "Reaching Out", she's noticeably blushing.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Or in this case ambiguous conclusion. Amity never apologized to Luz for nearly killing her or for her bad attitude. It's unclear if she learned about the situation from Luz's perspective; Luz tried to help Willow improve her grades, stand up for King, and stop the twins from stealing Amity's diary.
  • Animal Motifs: Fittingly for a Witch with a White Cat Palisman, she is proud and somewhat standoffish but affectionate once you get to know her. Further, she is also fiercely protective of those close to her, especially her girlfriend Luz and she has a very strong desire to experience love and affection as a result of her thoroughly lackluster upbringing. She also has a hidden but exceptionally strong desire to exercise independence and free will by choosing her own path in life]], free from any outside influence. There are also many instances where Amity's facial expression is catlike.
  • The Apprentice: In a direct parallel to Luz, Amity was a protégé of Eda's sister Lilith, but she becomes disillusioned with Lilith after the latter forces her to cheat in a Witch's Duel, publicly humiliating her in the process. After Amity formally cut ties with Lilith, they didn't interact at all until after the fall of Belos, where they formed a better relationship over the course of four years, with Amity eventually working for Lilith's museum.
  • Aroused by Idiocy: Amity has a downplayed example in regards to her relationship with Luz. In "Wing it Like Witches", she voices how charming she finds Luz's reckless bravery to help out her friends, though it's clear that the bravery plays a bigger role.
  • Arranged Friendship: The only reason she ever hung out with Boscha and Skara was because her parents were close to their parents, as she regarded both of them as mean when she was a younger child. Unusually, she also grew to regard some of the time she spent with them with genuine fondness, and cared about Boscha in particular enough to give her a calm talking down when she gets in Amity's way of reuniting with her friends and girlfriend before the final fight with Belos.
  • The Atoner: After apologizing to Willow for ending their friendship and bullying her, Amity swears to stop and never let Boscha and her Girl Posse pick on her ever again. She demonstrates this in the next episode by telling off Boscha when she attempts to mock Willow's newfound popularity. In "Labyrinth Runners", Amity tries to take this too far the other way, being so overprotective of Willow against the Emperor's Coven that the two start to get in each other's way to the point that Willow has to tell her off again for being so overprotective.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other:
    • She was never shown to be particularly close to Amelia or Cat even when she used to hang out with them and never interacts with them again after cutting ties with her Girl Posse, due to them likely being a part of the friend group that was handpicked for her by Odalia. Despite this, she's still visibly unnerved upon seeing that they were turned into puppets by the Collector, and vows to save them just like the rest of the people of the Isles.
    • Despite her disdain for Boscha, Amity does have some fond memories with her and considers her to have once been something of a genuine if forced friend. As such, she offers a calm explanation for why she can't stay with Boscha when the latter offers to allow Amity to join her and rule over New Hexside as a duo once more, stating that she can never go back to the person she was at the time, and encouraging Boscha to stick with Amelia and Cat after they are formally rescued.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: Defied. Amity is the youngest of the Blights, but she acts more mature than her older siblings.
  • Back-to-Back Badasses: She and Luz invoke this in "Escaping Expulsion", as they face the Abomaton 2.0 (leading to them both blushing).
  • Badass Adorable: Amity is no less the Cute Witch that her eventual girlfriend, Luz, is. She is also more than capable of cleaning the clock of anyone who tries to mess with her or her girlfriend, as demonstrated when she teamed up with Luz to destroy Grom in "Enchanting Grom Fright", saved Luz from her parents Abomiton in "Escaping Expulsion", or went toe to toe with Hunter over the Portal Key in "Eclipse Lake".
  • Badass Bookworm: "Lost In Language" reveals that she spends a lot of time volunteering at the local library and she even has a secret hideout hidden behind a shelf in the "Romance" section. The same episode shows that she is skilled and resourceful even without relying on her magic.
  • Badass Cape: In "Escaping Expulsion", Amity dons a green cloak when she rushes off to save Luz from her parents and the Abomiton 2.0. Later, in "Thanks to Them", Amity wears a white cloak as part of her Hecate Halloween Costume, and fights alongside the rest of the Hexsquad against the Belos possessed Hunter.
  • Barely-Changed Dub Name: The Polish dub changed her name to 'Anita'.
  • Barrier Warrior: One of her preferred techniques is keeping a small mass of abomination goop rotating around her so that she can shape it into a shield whenever needed, which she showcases a variety of times throughout Season 2. She also can envelop enemies in an abomination to contain them, as seen with her duel against Hunter.
  • Batman Gambit: In "Watching and Dreaming", Amity is forced to fight the girl she loves within the confines of Luz's worst nightmare. However, Amity is consciously resisting, and resisting hard, to the point where she is able to come up with a plan to get Luz to realize it's just a dream. Namely she deliberately misquotes The Good Witch Azura, and misnames the Witch's Duel as a Witch's Battle. Amity's plan works, as Luz instantly realizes that the girl she loves would never make such obvious errors, allowing Luz to break free of her dream.
  • Battle Couple: She forms one with her girlfriend Luz. The first time that they team up is against Grom in "Enchanting Grom Fright", with Amity's romantic feelings for Luz being revealed in the same episode. Amity later saves Luz from her parents Abomiton in "Escaping Expulsion". After the two become a couple, they regularly fight side by side against members of the Emperor's Coven, up to and including Belos himself.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Luz's endearing kindness and desire to be her friend, slowly but surely helps Amity open up to her. To the point that Amity is now in love with Luz.
  • Beneath the Mask: Behind her aloof and stuck-up Academic Alpha Bitch persona lies a lonely and vulnerable (and kinda dorky) girl who's crushed by the expectations of everybody around her, especially herself. She herself alludes to it when admitting she was charmed by Hooty's gesture of making the love tunnel in "Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door":
Luz: I was just — I've been wanting to ask you something for a while, but I wanted to do it in the best way, and in the Tunnel of Love, I thought, "Amity's too cool for this!"
Amity: (blushing and awkwardly clasping her hands) I'm not as cool as you think...
  • Berserk Button:
    • Cheating. Amity values hard work and integrity at school above all else, having worked tirelessly to reach her position as the top student of Hexside. As such, Amity hates nearly all forms of cheating with a passion. Amity will get aggressive and even violent if she so much as suspects foul play.
      • Willow cheating with her abomination project especially pisses off Amity, since Amity and Willow used to be friends. In spite of the current rift between them, Amity honestly expected better from Willow, despite the fact that she often bullies Willow for not succeeding honestly, apparently Amity never stopped to think that her constantly picking on her might be why Willow relied on cheating in the first place.
      • Amity's hatred of cheating is so great that she hates it even when people cheat in her favor. When her then mentor Lilith gives Amity a power glyph without her knowledge, Amity becomes afraid that her reputation will be tarnished, thus ruining her chances to be in the Emperor's Coven, although she finds herself blaming Luz for it for it.
      • As shown in her fights later in the series, Amity's dislike of cheating doesn't extend to fighting outside of formal duals. She's fully willing to press every advantage she can get in a fight, regardless of its fairness, although it could be that she simply started to lose this trait over time.
    • Her older siblings and parents calling her "Mittens" irks Amity to no end. Much like her rage at cheating, this fades as the series progresses, with her even using it as part of her name for the Bonesborough Brawl.
    • Amity violently reacts to Hooty's intrusion into her personal space, promising to destroy him if he doesn't stop. She eventually accepts Hooty's presence but is confused when he abducts her in "Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door".
    • After the Grom fight, threatening or hurting her crush and eventual girlfriend, Luz, or anything that reminds her of Luz (like her Grom photo) is a good way to get on her bad side. She will even resort to unfair tactics and outright cheating to protect Luz's interests as Hunter learned the hard way when he fought her for the portal key.
    • After all the grief and abuse she has received from her mother, Odalia coldly rejecting her relationship with Luz after she discovers that they are dating, stating that she'll find her a more fitting girlfriend, absolutely enrages Amity to the point where she outright attempts to attack her and later disowns her.
  • Big Damn Heroes: She comes to Luz's rescue in multiple times throughout the series.
    • In "Enchanting Grom Fright", Amity leaps in to protect Luz from Grom, which indirectly serves to reveal that Amity's biggest fear is her feelings for Luz being rejected. The two then team up to destroy the Fearbringer.
    • In "Escaping Expulsion" when Luz is about to be killed by her father's Abomaton 2.0, Amity shows up in the nick of time to hold the Abomiton at bay. This directly leads to the first signs of her crush being reciprocated.
    • In "Follies at the Coven Day Parade", Amity prevents Luz from getting impaled by Terra Snapdragon before helping Luz to escape with Kikimora to the docks.
  • The Big Damn Kiss: Amity shares a kiss with Luz in "Through The Looking Glass Ruins", "Clouds on the Horizon", and "Watching and Dreaming" after defeating Belos, with hints of a more memorable date.
  • A Birthday, Not a Break: She was blackmailed by her Abusive Parents into ending her friendship with Willow during her own birthday party.
  • Blaming the Victim: As well as Playing the Victim Card, which both are Played With. Amity accuses Luz of getting her in trouble and embarrassing her, despite being responsible. Luz confronts Amity about near-dissection, but Amity ignores her. Luz blames herself for Amity's misfortunes and agrees with her accusations.
  • Body Motifs: She has a strong association with hands, such as her nickname mittens and the strong focus on hand holding whenever there's a significant change in her relationship with Luz. She has also incorporated abomination hands in a variety of ways into her combat style such as gauntlets, rocket fists, creating giant hands from the ground, floating hands, and multiple hands at once.
  • Brainy Brunette: Flashbacks and pictures shows Amity once had brown hair but now most of her hair is dyed green, (and later purple thanks to Character Development). She's also an intelligent Badass Bookworm.
  • Break Her Heart to Save Her: "Understanding Willow" reveals Amity's broken friendship with Willow due to her parents' rejection of her due to her perceived weakness and embarrassment, causing her to cut ties with her.
  • Breaking the Cycle of Bad Parenting: Downplayed, seeing as she isn't a parent. Amity struggles with her parents, with her mother being a control freak and her father enabling her abuse. Despite this, Amity is a Friend to All Children volunteer at the local library.
  • Broken Ace: She is the top student in the prestigious Abomination track at magic school, but the enormous pressure she puts on herself has taken a toll on her people skills and sense of self-worth.
  • Broken Pedestal: After Lilith cheats on her behalf, humiliating her in front of the whole Covention and possibly jeopardizing her future, Amity develops this towards her mentor, even telling her poster to "shut up" in "Agony of a Witch". However, this trope might have been subverted as according to the Word of God Amity and Lilith didn't have much of a relationship and only saw each other as tools to further achieve their goals.
  • Brutal Honesty: In "Enchanting Grom Fright". After Luz has a few minutes of training to fight Grom with Amity and her siblings, Amity bluntly admits that she doesn't think Luz is ready, but they're literally out of time.
  • The Bully: Before her redemption arc, she was this to a lot of people in general due to her cold, condescending, hypocritical and aloof attitude.
    • Willow's failure in making abominations is exacerbated by their childhood friendship. She becomes angry and attempts to kill Luz for posing as Willow's abomination project, blaming her for her troubles. blames Luz for her troubles.
    • Amity threatened Luz with a witches' duel, attempting to prove her superiority. When it was revealed that Lilith had unknowingly made Amity cheat, she lashed out at Luz and threatened her future in the Emperor's Coven.
    • Amity rebuffs Luz's attempts to reconcile and calls her a bully, despite being Lonely Among People. She refuses to hear Luz's perspective, believing Luz was involved in her siblings' embarrassment attempt. This irony highlights Amity's desire for genuine friendships.
  • Bully Turned Buddy:
    • Downplayed. Amity was initially a rival to Luz and an Academic Alpha Bitch, but she gains Character Development and becomes a friend of Luz and Willow. She tries to fix mistakes but feels out of place in Luz's friend group.
    • Then it's played straight and taken further as the series progressed particularly after "Enchanting Grom Fight" where Amity develops a crush on Luz and steps up to defend Willow from Boscha in "Wing It Like Witches". Following their Relationship Upgrade, Amity and Luz spend more time together, and likely by extension with Willow and Gus, at the Owl House.
  • Calling the Old Man Out:
    • In "Escaping Expulsion", Amity criticizes her mother, Odalia, for expelling her friends and controlling her social circle. She threatens to destroy the Abomiton unless her friends return to school. Alador encourages her to relent, highlighting her pragmatism and potential as the future Coven Head.
    • In "Reaching Out", Amity criticizes her father, Alador, for enabling his wife's controlling nature and his lack of involvement in his children's lives. Alador shows remorse and promises to talk to Amity's mother, resolving to improve.
    • In "Clouds on the Horizon", Amity discovers Odalia's secret plan to wipe out the Boiling Isles, revealing her mother's evil nature. Amity fights and disowns her, but Odalia never sees the error of her ways and leaves her family.
Amity: (to Odalia) You!!! I am never speaking to you again!
  • The Cameo: She makes very brief appearances in "Agony of a Witch" and "Young Blood, Old Souls", due to having to stay home after breaking her leg in "Wing it Like Witches".
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Amity is in love with Luz but can't bring herself to say it. This is in spite of all the obvious hints that Amity gives out. She tried to ask Luz to Grom through a letter but chickened out of giving it to her. The monster transformed into a facsimile of Luz and tore the letter in half, showing that Amity's greatest fear is getting rejected by Luz.
  • Character Development:
    • In "I Was A Teenage Abomination", Amity initially dislikes Luz due to her own jerkish attitude. After apologizing, Amity warms up to Luz, realizing her mistakes caused conflicts. In "Adventures in the Elements", she develops romantic feelings for Luz.
    • In the first episodes of Season 1, Amity is initially condescending towards Willow but later reveals her actions were due to her parents' blackmail. She apologizes for being weak and vouches for better. She eventually advises Willow on overcoming Boscha.
    • In Season 2, Amity's parents pressure her to be a powerful witch to maintain their place in high society. She fears rebellion, leading to the expulsion of Luz, Gus, and Willow. However, after being threatened, Amity stands up against her parents and dyes her hair purple.
    • By mid-Season 2, she has gone from being a promising yet miserable potential member of the Emperor's Coven too afraid of her parents to put a toe out of line to a happily rebellious young witch more than willing to actively commit treason against the Emperor by fighting one on one against and even holding his right-hand man hostage.
    • In "Follies At the Coven Day Parade", despite her history as an Insecure Love Interest, she ultimately refuses to look at the video on Luz's phone to gain answers about what happened in the previous episode in favor of just talking to Luz about it.
    • In "Reaching Out", she admits that she doesn't really want to join any Coven anymore, standing up against Odalia's desire to force her into the Emperor's Coven.
  • Childhood Friends:
    • Subverted with Boscha and Skara, as they've known each other since childhood but Amity was forced into being friends with them and it's unlikely they truly like her.
    • She and Willow were this in the past. However, her parents saw Willow beneath Amity, and forced Amity to either end her friendship or they will keep Willow from attending Hexside, leading Amity to end their friendship to protect her.
  • Child Prodigy: Amity Blight is initially introduced as an Academic Alpha Bitch and is stated to be the best student in school, quickly proving herself to be adept in Abomination magic. She later shows that she's more than capable in combat as well, able to hold her own against the Abomiton 2.0 and the Golden Guard and showing just as much, if not more, skill in Abomination magic as her father, who is no slouch himself.
  • Closet Geek: Amity's library hideout has copies of the first four books in the Good Witch Azura series and her diary cover has fanart based on it. Following her Character Development, she seems to be no longer hiding her love for the series, given that the necklace she replaces the amulet with in Season 2 is similar to the clasp of Hecate's cloak.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Amity is working to prevent Luz from accidentally getting killed or thrown in the Conformatorium, as Luz is an In-Universe Chaotic Good Weirdness Magnet who is facing major challenges when not preoccupied with her own insecurities.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: She wears the orchid uniform of the Abomination Coven. The Season 2 intro sequence also has her using orchid magic from her hands, and an abomination dropping from the top of the screen.
  • Color Motifs:
    • Amity is often associated with pink, primarily orchid/magenta shade. She is seen wearing various pink outfits, including her Abomination Track uniform, Season 1 casual outfit, and winter outfit. She also uses pink as a new nail polish color.
    • Purple is a secondary color used by Amity, representing royalty, nobility, and power, as she grows independent from her Abusive Parents and chooses her own path.
  • Combination Attack: Amity performs a few of these with her girlfriend, Luz, throughout the series.
    • In "Enchanting Grom Fright", Amity conjures a massive Abomination that Luz attaches a Plant Glyph to, before the Abomination launches itself into Grom's mouth as the Plant Glyph blows it up from the inside and creates a giant tree in the process.
    • In "Follies at the Coven Day Parade", Amity combines her Abomination Fist with one of Luz's Ice Glyphs, before firing them at Kikimora and her Hand-Dragon.
  • The Comically Serious: Tends have this attitude when surrounded by the antics-driven Luz and her prank-loving siblings.
  • Commonality Connection:
    • In "Covention", Luz and Amity, both passionate about magic and witchcraft, face challenges in their relationship. Luz loses innocence, while Amity is a bully. They both enjoy the Good Witch Azura series, which helps them start bonding.
    • "Hooty's Moving Hassle" reveals similarities between Amity and Willow, both struggling with insecurity and a desire to prove themselves. Willow's kindness allows her to form supportive friends, while Amity's superficial relationship with her Girl Posse and self-destructive attitude prevent her from having genuine friends to help.
  • Condescending Compassion: Luz's genuine compassion towards Willow, despite their childhood friendship, is marred by her perfectionist ego, viewing her as inferior. Despite progress in repairing their relationship, this behavior flares up in "Labyrinth Runners", causing overcompensation and fear of losing Willow.
  • The Confidant: Amity serves as a savior to her girlfriend, Luz, who reveals secrets after the conflict. Amity reassures Luz and promises to help her resolve issues, such as securing her mother's permission to stay in the Demon Realm or paying tribute to her deceased father.
  • Conflict Ball: Amity's first appearances involved her making problems worse than they needed to be because of her attitude problem and her obsessive need to be better than everyone.
    • Amity's debut episode centers on her quest to regain her top student badge from Willow, who was demoralized by her patronizing behavior towards her former friend.
    • The "Covention" plot, involving witches' dual, was influenced by Amity's petty grudge against Luz and her impulsive challenge to prove her superiority, leading to her humiliation by Lilith.
    • Amity and Luz had a heartfelt connection in "Covention", but Amity was hostile towards her and accused Luz of bullying. After Luz saved her life, she experienced Heel Realization, starting her Character Development.
    • Finally, she this again when she burned Willow's memories to hide their past friendship, only to engulf her mind in flames and was forced to deal with the fallout and fix it.
  • Contagious Heroism: She initially acts as a bully to Luz and Willow, but the more she spends around Luz, the more she loosens up, trading off her original Girl Posse for Luz, Willow, and Gus.
  • Cosmic Motifs: Amity has a strong association with the Moon, particularly a Crescent Moon. In "Enchanting Grom Fright", she and Luz dance with the Moon in the background. In "Through the Looking Glass Ruins", Amity's casual clothes feature crescents on shoes and necklaces.
  • Cool Board: She can make a skateboard with her Abomination magic.
  • Covert Pervert: Has an interesting reaction when invited to join Luz's grudgby team in "Wing It Like Witches". Upon being asked, Amity imagines "running around in cute uniforms, sweating". This causes her entire face to turn red with a blush and sprint away in embarrassment.
  • Cracks in the Icy Façade: In "Covention", Amity starts as a total Jerkass, smashing King's cupcake and using Luz's challenge to keep her from studying magic. However, as soon as Eda reveals that Lilith cheated by increasing Amity's powers with a coven adhesive, the girl runs away ashamed, and later frees Luz from her "everlasting oath".
  • Creepy Good: As the name implies, abomination magic is perhaps the most obviously sinister magical discipline in the Boiling Isles, consisting of summoning hideous, tormented-looking slime-golems to do your bidding. Amity's Heel–Face Turn doesn't change her power set, and if anything, her magic is more amusingly grotesque than ever now she's a full-fledged hero and a member of the main cast.
  • Cruel to Be Kind:
    • In "Hooty's Moving Hassle", Amity gets her Girl Posse to stop picking on Willow by telling them "Leave her alone, it's not her fault she was born without talent". While a harsh thing to say and likely fueled by animosity due to past events, it does have the intended effect at making the girls stop their taunting and move on.
    • "Understanding Willow" reveals that Amity's parents forced her to stop being friends with Willow. If she didn't, they would have made it so Willow would never get into Hexside.
  • Crush Blush:
    • She blushes multiple times in "Adventures in The Elements" and "Understanding Willow." In "Enchanting Grom Fright", Amity blushes multiple times around Luz, heavily foreshadowing the later reveal in this very episode where we find out that she does indeed have a crush on Luz.
    • In "Wing It Like Witches", we see her whole face go red multiple times and she blushes at least once during every single conversation she and Luz have.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Amity dominates fights, winning Witch's Duel, Grom Fright, and Bonesborough Brawl, despite her father's intervention, convincing her mother to allow Luz, Willow, and Gus back into Hexside.

    D-G
  • Daddy's Girl: Amity is closer to Alador than Odalia (for good reasons), studying magic and wishing to win the Bonesborough Brawl. She believes she and the twins can convince their father about Belos's evil plans, but Alador believes her and is against it. Amity's nickname "Mittens" comes from Alador's abomination magic.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: She is an abomination specialist with purple magic and clothes, yet she was never particularly cruel and quickly graduates to a good guy.
  • Dark Magical Girl: Fits the bill pretty well: Lonely Rich Kid? Check. Dark and Troubled Past, specifically related to her family situation as a bonus? Check. Sour Outside, Sad Inside? Check. Craves approval from the Big Bad? Not directly, but her desire to join the Emperor's Coven counts. Sees the light because of her Magical Girl Foil? Ooh, double check. Yup, she passes the test.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: More accurately, "Dating What Mommy Hates". Amity's mother is unhappy with her relationship with supposed criminal Luz, who is associated with her, Willow, and Gus. Odalia dismisses this, promising to find a new girlfriend. Amity attacks her mother, but her father, initially hostile towards her, welcomes Luz at their mansion.
  • A Day in the Limelight: "Eclipse Lake" in season 2 is the first episode where Amity gets to be the central focus after Luz gets sick with the common mold, teaming up with Eda and King to find the titular lake and its Titan's Blood. "Reaching Out", serves as another one, this time featuring Amity attempting to win her father's approval by winning the Bonesborough Brawl like he did when he was younger.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Amity initially appears mean and bullies Luz due to jealousy, but she gradually reveals a secret kinder side. After befriending Luz and reconciling with Willow, she becomes nicer and more honest but still acts standoffish and surly. When they finally admit their feelings, she proves to be the "awesome girlfriend" she wants.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: On Earth she is able to manipulate mud to act reminiscent of her Abomination Magic.
  • Disowned Parent: Amity's difficult relationship with her controlling mother, Odalia, escalates when she discovers her complicity in Belos' Final Solution plot, leading to her decision to never speak to her again.
  • Dispel Magic: Being a talented Abomination witch means she's just as good at dismantling them as she is at assembling them. This is very useful against more advanced Abominations that are resistant or immune to conventional attacks.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Amity dissected Luz after losing her top student title, forced her to give up magic and got her beat up for embarrassment, and yelled at her to leave her alone when Luz offered her help at the library.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Amity dislikes being called "Mittens" by her siblings but seems to have mellowed in Season 2B, using a modified version for the Bonesborough Brawl and not minding her father's nickname.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point:
    • In "Covention", Amity blames Luz for embarrassing her during a witches' duel and making her look bad in front of the Emperor's Coven. However, the former was her own fault, while the latter was caused by Lilith, the Coven leader.
    • Amity experiences "bullying" from Luz over misunderstandings with the Blight twins and her diary. Despite acknowledging her behavior, she believes Luz was mean and blames her for the issues.
    • In "Knock, Knock, Knockin' On Hooty's Door", she's initially flattered by the Tunnel of Love Hooty set up for her and Luz, but when Luz starts tearing it apart in embarrassment, she assumes it means Luz isn't interested in her. Luz is actually terrified of embarrassing herself in front of her crush, and thinks Amity deserves a much better date than a corny tunnel of love. They clear it up by the end of the episode and get a Relationship Upgrade.
  • Dye Hard: Amity is an In-Universe case, as she dyes her hair green to coordinate with her siblings. She starts dyeing it lavender to assert her independence, but Odalia attempts to get her back. This is foreshadowed by her brown roots and a picture of a younger Amity.
  • Easily Forgiven: Downplayed. Willow, now aware of Amity's past bullying, is willing to forgive her, and by "Wing It Like Witches", they're on better terms, but their friendship isn't as close as when they were young. Amity still unconsciously tries to save Willow, despite her ability to defend herself.
  • Elemental Hair Colors: Invoked. After her Important Haircut in "Through the Looking Glass Ruins", Amity started dying her hair lavender instead of green because it's the color of abominations, though she didn't reveal that it was the reason she chose that color until "Reaching Out".
  • Embarrassing Nickname: She is called "Mittens" by her older siblings Edric and Emira, much to her chagrin.
  • Emotional Regression: In "Labyrinth Runners", after making great strides in repairing her friendship with Willow, she unfortunately causes some friction by unconsciously reverting to the mindset that she needs to protect Willow, despite it being clear both in-universe and out to anyone who really knows her that Willow is perfectly capable of taking care of herself just as much as Amity can now.
  • Entitled Bitch: In her early appearances, Amity was focused on her own issues and didn't care about others' feelings. She nearly killed Luz for cheating, didn't care about her dream of becoming a witch, and didn't care about her embarrassment at the Covention. She called Luz a bully without understanding her explanation. Fortunately, she grows out of this.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Amity introduces herself magically riding a cart carrying her abomination project and rubs in Willow's failures in the same class while pretending to console her. A possible subversion in that later episodes revealed not only is there more to Amity than meets the eye at this moment, but to her relationship with Willow too.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • For all her flaws, Amity does believe in giving students a fair chance to learn magic, in a sort of patronizing way. When their teacher threatens to give everyone in her class extra homework if the next project on display is a failure, she stands up and volunteers to show her abomination.
    • Amity does not abide cheating, and she is absolutely horrified in "Covention" when she learns that Lilith has made a cheater out of her against her will.
    • Amity doesn't seem to appreciate someone being ganged upon, even if it's someone she takes issue with, as shown in her Cruel to Be Kind moment in "Hooty's Moving Hassle". In a deeper sense, Amity and Willow used to be friends, and so while Amity herself might feel fine picking on Willow, her old protective sensibilities flare up if ''somebody else'' picks on her.
    • The main reason she clashes with her older siblings, Edric and Emira, is that she feels that as Blights they have to act with responsibility, whereas said siblings feel fine with doing whatever they want regardless of how much trouble that causes.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: In "Through the Looking Glass Ruins", Amity dyes her hair lilac and cuts her bangs, separating herself from her toxic mother. This choice symbolizes her desire to mold her own path in life, similar to how she molds her Abominations. In "Thanks to Them", Amity's hair fades, highlighting her growth and reconciliation with her father.
  • Fairytale Motifs: Her reddish-brown roots resemble a crown, mirroring her upper-class family, her popularity among the students at Hexside, and her status as a talented witch-in-training.
  • Familiar: She gains a white cat Palisman named Ghost sometime between "Knock, Knock, Knockin' On Hooty's Door" and "Eclipse Lake". It's unclear if he is a reclaimed Palisman from the Bat Queen's sanctuary or if she made him herself.
  • Fangirl: Of the Good Witch Azura book series. This is how Luz finally manages to make a good impression on her: by lending Amity a book from the series that Amity didn't have.
  • The Fashionista: Due to her wealth, she has some shades of this, though her style leans on the typical Goth fashion. It's more obvious during her stay at the Human Realm where all her outfits were generally pretty stylish.
  • Fatal Flaw: Prior to her Character Development, Amity's major is flaw was Pride. As an Academic Alpha Bitch at the top of her class, Amity is destined to be one of the greatest witches of her generation due to her intense pressure to succeed. She has few friends, is ruthless, and is enraged when others threaten her position. She also holds contempt for those beneath her.
  • Finishing Each Other's Sentences: After Amity and Luz start dating, from time to time they will finish each other's statements, in particular when discussing topics they are excited about, most notably the couple's favorite books, The Good Witch Azura.
Amity: Could the author of Azura...
    Luz: Travel between realms?!
  • Fire-Forged Friends: They surely didn't like each other at first, with Amity annoyed by Luz presence and Luz disliking her being mean to her friends. Suffice it to say after taking the time to get to know each other, spending time with Luz has caused Amity to reflect on her behavior and even confronting her past with Willow.
  • Fire/Water Juxtaposition: In "Adventures in the Elements", Luz learns the ice spell. In the same episode, Amity practices a fire spell. Both girls also flip the power stereotypes. Luz the ice user is enthusiastic and bubbly, while Amity the fire user is cold and distant.
  • First Love: According to Dana Terrace, the first person Amity has ever really fallen in love with is Luz.
    • Amity acts so awkward in "Wing it like Witches" because she doesn't really know how to deal with those new emotions. Even when trying to motivate people to act against Boscha, Amity has to do a few Verbal Backspaces when she clearly lets slip about her crush.
    • Played for Drama in "Through the Looking Glass Ruins" where Amity voices aloud how she is very confused about how she feels, that she doesn't understand why she acts the way she does around Luz, and that she doesn't always like it.
  • Flowers of Romance: Flowers are frequently seen in major moments of Amity's romance with her girlfriend, Luz.
    • In "Reaching Out", Luz and Amity craft a batch of flowers in honor of Luz's deceased father Manny as part of a yearly tradition that Luz has where she and her mother Camila would plant flowers on his grave. While the moment is much more somber than most, it is still a deeply intimate moment for the young couple.
    • In "Clouds on the Horizon", when Luz goes to rescue Amity from her grounding, she creates a batch of vines with which to enter Amity's room from the second story balcony of Blight Manor. Said vines are covered in blooming flowers, and they can be seen prominently when Luz and Amity properly reunite and share their first kiss.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: She's the responsible sibling, while Edric and Emira are the foolish siblings. Edric and Emira tend to coast on their family's money and power, whereas Amity constantly puts pressure on herself to succeed at all costs.
  • Foil:
    • Her foremost foil is her rival turned girlfriend, Luz. Luz, initially optimistic and reckless, and Amity, initially cold and cynical, gradually change their personalities through their interactions. Luz gradually gains Amity's acceptance, becoming more cheerful and open to love. Amity helps show Luz she's loved and capable, making them a strong couple. Their contrasts support each other in their lowest moments, using their perspectives to help each other.
    • She is one to Boscha, best seen in "For the Future". Boscha embodies Amity without the scruples and anchoring individuals in her life. Unlike Amity, who initially suppressed her flaws but allowed herself to grow, move past her desire to prove herself superior, and shows her insecurities, Boscha refuses to admit her flaws whatsoever and dominates herself to feel full security in her power.
    • Surprisingly, one whom might even pass for a Mirror Character for her is Emperor Belos, aka Philip Whittebane. Amity, an academic Alpha Bitch, is insecure and self-conscious due to her abusive parents' pressure. She ends friendship with Willow and pursues a career in The Emperor's Coven, blaming Luz for her problems and alienating herself. Philip, raised in the 17th century, committed witch-hunting and murdered his brother Caleb, causing immense suffering. They ignored others' problems and blamed their own troubles, leading to further misery. While Amity expresses remorse and starts to rebuild her life, Philip suppresses guilt and rationalizes his actions, leading to isolation and no mourning after his death.
  • Following in Relative's Footsteps: Her entire reason for entering the Bonesborough Brawl in "Reaching Out" is because Alador was the champion when he was younger, and she wants to recreate his success in the hope that it would help her understand him better.
  • Forbidden Friendship: With Willow. Amity tries to erase Willow's memories of her at one point.
  • Freudian Excuse: The reason Amity broke up her friendship with Willow is because her parents expect her to act that way. They want her to carry on the social-standing by no longer associating with a "less than powerful" witch like Willow. No doubt they also want her to excel and be the best to preserve their ties and reputation. That puts a lot of pressure on her and is the reason why she acts the way she is.
  • Freudian Slip: Lets out a couple in "Wing It Like Witches" about how she finds Luz trying to take on the punishment of the bet for Willow cute, which confuses Willow and Gus.
Amity: She can be so stupid, which I love. [blushes] I mean hate! In any case, she needs you right now. Which is sweet. [blushes again] I mean, I hate it and it's dumb!
    Gus: ...You lost me.
  • Friend to All Children: She volunteers at the library to read books to children. They clearly adore her and are some of the few people she shows her sweeter side to.
  • Girl Posse: "Hooty's Moving Hassle" reveals Amity has a friend group consisting of Boscha and Skara, who are from wealthy and influential families. It turns out they were handpicked for her by her Abusive Parents. Despite not liking them, Amity is wary of letting them out of her sight, as seen in "Understanding Willow".
  • Girly Bruiser: Along with being feminine, Season 2 really shows off Amity's magical fighting skills. In "Eclipse Lake", she fights Hunter, a coven head and teen genius, to a standstill over the portal key. Ultimately, Hunter is forced to threaten Luz to get her to give it up.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: Amity, in contrast to Luz, is a traditionally feminine character with pink and purple as her main Color Motifs. She wears nail polish and dresses in girly, stylish outfits, often acting as a Lady of War. She is soft and sensitive to her close friends and is competitive in sports. Amity is known for her Abomination Magic and gauntlet attack. She is also an Adventurer Archaeologist with a Tomboyish Ponytail in the Distant Finale.
  • Gleeful and Grumpy Pairing: Amity forms the grumpy half with her girlfriend, Luz. Luz is friendly, joyful, and fascinated by the world around her. Amity is more serious, pessimistic, and condescending, although she opens up with the help of Luz. However, the roles end up switching in "Thanks to Them"; Luz becomes gloomy and self-pitying due to her Trauma Conga Line, while Amity becomes more upbeat and confident. That said, the Distant Finale has both girls becoming cheerful and upbeat adults after finally defeating the cause of their pain.
  • Good Is Not Soft: You better take her seriously when she makes threats, and you can be damn sure that they're guarantees and not idle. Hooty found out the hard way.
  • Go-Getter Girl: Is Hexside's top student from the prestigious Abomination track with ambitions of joining the elite Emperor's Coven. This becomes downplayed when she reveals how miserable these high expectations are making her and that her joining the Emperor's Coven was her mom's dream and not her own.
  • Goth: Amity is a classic Goth teen in the Boiling Isles whowears black nail-polish and a black dress. She has an unhealthy family life and slowly becomes a Perky Goth due to the influence of Luz, Willow, and Gus.
  • Goth Girls Know Magic: Amity, a goth-themed individual, is a skilled and powerful practitioner of the craft on the Boiling Isles. Her clothing and magic are predominantly black and dark purple, accentuated by dyeing her hair lilac. Her dark color scheme is evident in her abilities.
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: Amity has a more ladylike air compared to the other female characters, even in fights, and has worn purple throughout the series, even on her hair.
  • Green and Mean: Subverted. She has dyed green hair and was a bully to Luz and her friends but eventually had a Heel Realization and slowly Took a Level in Kindness. And by the the time she became a straight-up Nice Girl, her hair is lavender instead of green.
  • Green Thumb: She knows enough plant magic to perform the thorn vault maneuver.
  • Grew a Spine: In "Escaping Expulsion", she learns to stand up to her mother and resist her demands, and undergoes a major step in Character Development. Best exemplified when she destroys her necklace meaning Odalia cannot talk to her telepathically anymore.

    H-K
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Amity has a really bad temper, and it's pretty easy for her to lose it when things don't go her way. Post her becoming nicer, she's much calmer, though she still has her moments of losing her cool. You're more likely to catch her losing her temper when she's having a very bad day, like during "Enchanting Grom Fright".
  • Hartman Hips: Downplayed. It seems like Amity eventually ends up taking after her biological mother Odalia in this regard. She develops these in the Distant Finale of "Watching and Dreaming" now that she has reached physical maturity as an 18-19 year old woman. That said, part of the wideness of her hips can be chalked up to Amity having large and wide pants.
  • Hates Being Touched: Definitely. When Hooty got in her face after she said out loud she was going to kill him if he talked to her again, she gave him a proper beating, and it certainly didn't help that she was having a really rough day, to say the least. She doesn't mind it all when Luz touches her though.
  • Heel Realization: In "Lost in Language", Amity accuses Luz of being a bully after the latter accidentally reads her diary. Luz apologizes and lends her book, showing no ill will. Amity admits that she doesn't know Luz and barely understands her, prompting her to try to improve herself.
  • Hereditary Hairstyle: Enforced. Amity, the youngest child, has brown hair dyed to the exact green shade of Odalia's, symbolizing her mother's domineering attitude, while her new hair style represents individuality and rebellion.
  • Hereditary Homosexuality: Possibly. Amity herself is openly lesbian, and enters a happy long term romance with Luz. While her siblings' orientations haven't been officially stated, Edric has been stated to be going out with someone referred to with they/them pronouns, and the only interest Emira has shown in someone else is when she offered a flirtatious wink to Luz in "Lost in Language".
  • Hero Antagonist: She's a disciple of Lilith and a "proper" witch compared to Luz and Eda, but while she is mean, cold, and seemingly remorseless, she's just trying to make it in her world the only way she knows how. She grows out of this when she questions her worldview after meeting Luz and falling for her.
  • Heroic Willpower: Captured by the Collector and transformed into a puppet, Amity uses her determination to carve a light glyph, freeing herself and the Hexsquad. She also misquotes Azura and the Witch's Dual declaration to alert Luz to her dream.
  • Her Own Worst Enemy: Amity's self-destructive nature hinders relationships and her responsibility. She blames Luz for embarrassment, accepts reckless challenges, and rejects Luz's friendship. Amity attempts to erase Willow's memory but faces problems. She was blackmailed into ending her friendship, but she decides to go along with the belief that Willow is weak. Her Character Development involves a Heel Realization and learning to work on her issues.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • It's evident early on that Amity is horribly insecure, and that her abrasive attitude is a means of concealing it. By the end of the first season, she's shown to be worried about only knowing low-level magic and intimidated by her older siblings' skill.
    • The pages that spill out of her magical diary in "Lost in Language" reveal many thoughts and feelings that Amity keeps concealed, with her outright admitting that this is because she feels like she cannot show "weakness" under any circumstances. She's also a big fan of the Good Witch Azura series, like Luz.
    • In the same episode, Amity is shown being kind to young kids by reading them a children's book, and acting as a caring big sister to them, with no signs of her previous Alpha Bitch personality shown.
    • The beginning of "Eclipse Lake" shows that Amity has a talent for organization, planning and leadership.
    • "For the Future" shows that Amity actually did consider Boscha, Cat, and Amelia her friends even if she had no say in the matter, as she shows deep alarm when she sees that the latter two have been turned into some of the Collector's Marionettes and expresses impressive levels of empathy for the former when she rejects her offer to stay with Boscha and rule over New Hexside as a team once more.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: "Lost in Language" exposes her sensitive attitude through private diary entries, while "Understanding Willow" highlights her relationship with Willow. Her Abusive Parents blackmailed her into ending her friendship, revealing her long-standing animosity and difficulty breaking it out.
  • High-School Sweethearts: While the two aren't married or even engaged as of yet, nor have they even attended the same high school for the rest of their education, she and Luz are shown to still be together as young adults in the epilogue and are just as affectionate as when they first started dating, with every indication suggesting they are in it for the long haul as each other's One True Love.
  • Hormone-Addled Teenager: Amity develops a crush on Luz, leading to nervousness and pacing when she sees her daily. Fearing rejection, she attempts to ask Luz to be her grom-date but loses nerves. The thought of her crush doing sports causes her to flee with a red face.
Amity: Me? On a team with you? Running around in cute uniforms? SWEATING?! I GOTTA GO! [face turns bright red, runs away]
  • Horrible Judge of Character: She has had this a few times:
  • Hot Librarian: Played with, as the library is the first place where the audience actually sees her loosen up due to her considering it a safe space, but she otherwise fits the mold in the personality department. And while she's too young to be called hot, her girlfriend definitely considers her to be attractive.
  • Humble Goal: As it turns out the thing that Amity desired most of all was to be free to choose her own path and truly manage to escape from under her parents' thumb. It was recognizing this that allowed Amity to bond with Ghost.
  • Hypocrite: Before her Character Development, Amity exhibited a bad habit of not practicing what she preaches. She claims to have higher standards than others, yet she tends to deflect blame and behave unprofessionally when things don't go her way. She even called Luz a bully over misunderstandings, disregarding her own nasty own behavior until this point.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Amity had to cut off her friendship with Willow because she was blackmailed into doing it. If she refused, her parents were going to deny Willow admission into Hexside. But, it was still no excuse for Amity to burn one of Willow's memories of herself with the former.
  • I Hate Past Me: A subtle example, but present nonetheless.
    • In "Understanding Willow", Amity states that she was too weak to be Willow's friend when she allowed her parents to Blackmail her into breaking off her friendship with Willow. After Amity reconciles with Willow, she demonstrates her efforts to keep Boscha from picking on Willow by saying that like Boscha, Amity used to be obsessed with status and constantly beating others, but she grew up from that.
    • Later in "Labyrinth Runners", while the two are fending off the invading members of the Emperor's Coven, Amity admits that one of her greatest fears at that point was doing something to lose Willow's friendship once again, which is why she became so overprotective of her, clearly indicating the level of remorse that she feels for all the years of bullying she inflicted on her friend.
    • Furthermore, in "For the Future" Amity dismisses Boscha begging her to stay with her as former teammates and go back to the way things were between the two of them with Amity herself specifically noting that she can never go back to the way she was.
  • I Just Want to Be Free: In "For the Future", Amity reveals her desire to choose her own path and not be controlled by her parents. She assures Boscha that she will not stray from this path, allowing them to return to their past.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: Amity's motivations at the beginning of the series are for acclaim, power, and status. And then Luz entered her life. This burgeoning romance helps her realize that what she's really wanted has been freedom from the expectations set by her mother, and to be with people who love her for who she is, not as a tool for their own gain.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: In "Lost in Language", she reads about a friendless bunny, while in "Hooty's Moving Hassle", she acknowledges her False Friends. Despite her cruelty towards Luz, she believes she can't show weakness for success.
  • Important Haircut: In "Through the Looking Glass Ruins", her siblings help her dye her hair purple to break free from her parents. The lilac symbolizes innocence and childhood, both of which have been ruined for Amity because of her abusive situation.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: Amity claims to understand Luz's deal, but she claims she doesn't understand her when she tries to talk to her. She also refuses to listen to Luz's perspective and tells her to buzz off.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Despite the gloating over her abomination-making skills, Amity loses her composure once she loses her top student star to Willow and becomes obsessed with getting it back. This is elaborated upon in further appearances, where we see just how much pressure she places upon herself to be the best.
  • Innocently Insensitive: In "Labyrinth Runners" she unwittingly delves into Condescending Compassion again with Willow as she overcompensates over having just reforged their friendship. She means well, but more than once she underestimates Willow, assuming that she has to handle attacks that Willow was perfectly capable of stopping herself before Willow sets her straight.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Amity initially dislikes Luz, dismissing her kindness as a form of bullying. She blames Luz for her misfortunes and labels her a stereotype. However, they eventually work things out for the better.
  • Insecure Love Interest:
    • In addition to all of her pre-established insecurities, "Enchanting Grom Fright" reveals that she has developed feelings for Luz and her biggest fear is being rejected by her.
    • Even after they actually get together, "Eclipse Lake" shows that she's still not 100% confident in the relationship and wants to prove that she can be an "awesome" girlfriend and quickly gets worried when she thinks that Luz's emoji messages are more negative than they are.
  • Insufferable Genius: She may be arrogant, but she is the top student for a reason. She can summon her abominations effortlessly, which took the rest of the class quite a bit of effort to conjure. However, she's also one to rub it in everyone else's faces how much better she is, as evidenced by her Establishing Character Moment where she undermines Willow's project.
  • Interspecies Romance: By "Enchanting Grom Fright", Amity, a member of a Mage Species, wants one with Luz the Human. She ends up getting it in "Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door".
  • Irrational Hatred: Amity initially held disdain for Luz due to her own haughty attitude and antagonistic actions, putting her in life-threatening scenarios without considering the consequences. She even called Luz a bully without considering her point of view, while Luz tried to explain that the situations were unintentional and she was trying to be nice and befriend her.
  • I Reject Your Reality: Amity blames Luz for her troubles and humiliation, which was her own fault. Despite Luz's attempts to comfort her, Amity dismisses her presence and calls her a bully. Amity's ignorance and selfishness prevent her from recognizing her issues.
  • Ironic Name:
    • Amity means "friendship", but she's not particularly friendly at first. Of course, if her second appearance is any indication, her first name paired with her last name—Blight, which is any disease that kills plants—might stand for Friendly Enemy.
    • Another dose of irony is that she did have a friendship with Willow when they were children, so the name wasn't even ironic once upon a time, and even then, the fact that they are no longer friends when introduced wasn't even Amity's choice as her parents forced her to end her friendship with Willow.
    • And yet another piece of irony is that she eventually comes to wish she was more than just friends with Luz but remains just friends with her because she's terrified of rejection.
  • Irony: In "For the Future" Amity is well-resolved due to her Abusive Parents, toxic lifestyle, and fear of failure. She meets up with her siblings early and has Luz with her, whereas the rest of the Hexsquad is worse off due to lack of contact.
  • "It" Is Dehumanizing: When she first met Luz, she referred to her using "it" pronouns.
  • It's All About Me:
    • Amity believed Luz was trying to humiliate her, but in reality, Luz wanted to learn about a witch school, help Willow improve her witch image, and accept her for who she is. She ignored Principal Bump's involvement and accused Luz of getting her in trouble, despite her arrogance. Amity took an oath so that Luz would quit learning magic if she lost the Witch's Duel. She ironically called Luz a bully, ignoring that her own actions were harmful.
    • Amity, despite her constant mistreatment of Willow and her peers, focused solely on obtaining her badge, disregarding the pain she caused others. It is shown that she does feel remorse for her actions but has difficulty showing it and understanding other's actions and later realizes that her behavior wasn't helping her relationship with Luz and makes up with Willow.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Although in those incidents is was more that Amity was Right for the Wrong Reasons.
  • Jerkass Realization:
    • Amity has a Heel Realization regarding her treatment towards Luz in "Lost in Language," and another in "Understanding Willow" in which she learns how much Willow resents her for calling her weak, ending their friendship and bullying her along with her new Girl Posse for years.
    • In "Labyrinth Runners", Amity has another one when Willow calls her out for being so overprotective of Willow against the invading members of the Emperor's Coven. After seeing how capable Willie is with her own eyes, Amity works to drop her Condescending Compassion and treats Willow like an equal.
  • Jerk Justifications: She thinks that it's a good thing to demean Willow for struggling in Abomination class in order to "encourage her" and believes that she has the right to be a jerk to Luz for unintentionally humiliating her.
Luz: Why are you being so mean, Amity?
Amity: Because you and your pet are giving witches in training a bad name.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's often mean-spirited and easily-angered, but she has a good heart deep down. Her outward personality is a result of the pressure she puts on herself which most likely stems from her upbringing in a rich and influential family. Her official description even describes her as someone who "tries to be prickly but is a softy at heart." As she cut off every toxic influence in her life, she also cut off the "jerk" part and let her heart of gold shine brightly.
  • Joins to Fit In: Over time, she slowly joins Luz's circle of friends after realizing she just doesn't fit in with Boscha and Skara anymore.
  • Kicking Ass in All Her Finery: Amity, wearing a pink Grom dress and a red mask, nearly wins a tournament but is interrupted by Luz, who messes with her father's Abomiton.
  • Kick the Dog: While her antagonism toward Luz is understandable, stepping on King's cupcake in "Covention" simply to spite Luz was beyond the pale and Luz lets her know it. Fortunately, King was able to get over it rather quickly as he was seen licking up the cupcake soon afterwards.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: Her Palisman, Ghost, takes the form of a White Cat whom she treats quite affectionately. Additionally, she only gets Ghost after formally abandoning her previous bullying ways and embracing kindness.

    L-N
  • Lady of War: Seems to be shaping up to being one, as Amity's attacks consist of very fluid and smooth motions to guide her Abomination Goo to it's target in a manner reminiscent of Waterbending.
  • Laugh of Love: The only times she's ever really shown laughing are in Luz's presence. In fact, one of their first truly positive interactions together was her laughing at one of Luz's jokes.
  • Learnt English from Watching Television: After her Relationship Upgrade with Luz, she starts learning Spanish using some human books that Gus lent to her. Unfortunately, the books in question were cookbooks, so she ends up giving Luz the Affectionate Nickname "batata" (sweet potato) after mistaking it for a term of endearment.
  • Lesbian Jock: Is the former grudgby captain and has a crush on Luz.
  • Like Parent, Like Child: Like her mother, Amity ends up falling in love with a Cloudcuckoolander but also shares her mother's temper and manipulative streak and at the same time takes after her father when it comes to her work ethic and talent with abominations. However, unlike either of them, she genuinely cares for her friends and doesn't just see them as pawns to manipulate.
  • Like Parent, Like Spouse: While they are still teenagers who have just started dating, Amity, as mentioned several times prior has fallen in love with Luz who like Amity's father is a Cloudcuckoolander, albeit more of the Genki Girl variety then Alador's Absent-Minded Professor shtick. In addition, she shares Amity's mother's habit of not thinking about potential consequences in the long term.
  • Lipstick Lesbian: Amity, who wears traditionally feminine clothing such as skirts and dresses, wears nail polish (albeit black), and has a pink school uniform as part of her Magic Track, quickly develops a strong crush on Luz after really getting to know her but is afraid of being rejected as seen in "Enchanting Grom Fright".
  • Little Miss Badass: Amity is only fourteen years old, but she's already one of the strongest combatants on the Boiling Isles. While fighting in the Bonesborough Brawl against various grown witches and demons, she outmatched all her opponents and very likely could've defeated Warden Wrath, the reigning champion, considering how quickly her father defeated Wrath with similar abomination magic.
  • Little Sister Instinct: Despite their tense relationship, Amity won't hesitate to protect her siblings when they're in danger, as seen by how quickly she rushes off to save them when they get caught by a Slitherbeast in "Adventures in the Elements".
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Amity, initially unaware of Luz's mental health issues, becomes increasingly aware of her and provides emotional support. In Season 3, Amity reassures Luz that she cannot hate her, even after Luz helps Philip meet the Collector.
  • Lonely Among People: "Hooty's Moving Hassle" explores Amity's dissatisfaction with her Girl Posse, her blackmail-related breakup with Willow, and her ironic interactions with Pretty Girl Luz, causing her loneliness and questioning her ability to integrate with them.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: She lives in Blight Manor, but clearly takes no enjoyment from the company of the "friends" she has over there for slumber parties. It turns out that she wasn't really allowed to have friends, just "acceptable companions" chosen by her parents.
  • Lovable Alpha Bitch: Revealed to be one in "Lost in Language", being capable of self-reflection and remorse, and even outright kindness and heroism.
  • Love Hurts: A platonic example with Willow. She and Willow were best friends, but her parents forced her to cut ties with her for being "weak". Losing Willow as a friend was bad enough, but also had to live with Willow hating her since, so Amity took every opportunity to distance herself emotionally from her.
  • Love Makes You Dumb:
    • Amity's brain becomes mushy by her crush's presence, causing Freudian Slips, Gibberish of Love, and massive crush blushes. Even when Luz isn't around, it can cause a blushing mess. By Season 2, she manages to keep herself together.
    • In "Wing It Like Witches", the prospect of being on the same team with her crush, "running around in cute uniforms [and] sweating" causes Amity to get so embarrassed, she has to run from the scene. During the game itself, Amity injures her leg protecting said crush who then offers to carry Amity off the field. This results in Amity saying "Who's Amity?!" with yet another Crush Blush.
    • A rather somber version of the trope happens in Season 2's "Through the Looking Glass Ruins", Amity ends up risking her job at the library, something very important to her, in order to help Luz, despite Luz's own protest, and when things inevitably go bad causing Amity to lose her job, Amity is left devastated and unable to understand why she would make such a stupid risk.
  • Lovely Angels: Amity forms this dynamic with Willow in "Labyrinth Runners", with the two working together to beat back the invading members of the Emperor's Coven after Willow convinces Amity to stop being so overprotective of her.
  • Luminescent Blush: In noticeable contrast to her dark-skinned girlfriend, who gets small but very warm flushes on her cheeks whenever she's around, Luz tends to make the much paler Amity break out in a less concentrated, full-faced blush.
  • Man of Kryptonite: In "Escaping Expulsion", Amity's skill in Abomination magic allows her to easily overwhelm both Abomatons by manipulating their body mass.
  • Masculine–Feminine Gay Couple: Amity and Luz become this when they start dating in Season 2. The former is a Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak who wears more feminine clothing such as skirts and dresses and a pink uniform. The latter is a Tomboy with a Girly Streak with Boyish Short Hair and an androgynous appearance.
  • Mature Younger Sibling: Her elder twin brother and sister Edric and Emira Blight are both unapologetically irresponsible troublemakers (though Emira generally has more common sense than her brother), while Amity is serious, well-behaved, and constantly trying to rein them in.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Though her first name is ironic in one sense, it can also reference Amityville and the horrors found there, which is fitting given that her specialty is summoning horrifying goo monsters, at the same time Amity is someone who starts out very lonely with a group of "friends" she hates and bonds with Luz extremely quickly once they worked out their issues.
    • Amity's surname, Blight, means "to impair or destroy", and is also a medical term for diseases affecting plants. As such, this appeared to be foreshadowing of the revelation that she and Willow, a plant-based witch, were once best friends, but Amity "impaired/destroyed" that friendship, albeit as a result of being blackmailed into doing it by her parents]], meaning they are a blight on Amity's friendships.
  • The Minion Master: While Amity is good with most magic, her specialty is creating alchemical abominations that she can command to do her bidding. An early episode has Amity effortlessly conjure an abomination bigger than she is, when Willow is shown to have struggled with controlling even a small one.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Amity often blames others for her mistreatment by an authority figure. She accuses Willow of stealing her badge when it was the teacher who allowed this to happen. She also accuses Luz of embarrassing her in the Witch's Duel when it was actually Lilith and Eda's fault for cheating and allowing their sibling squabbles to affect their students.
  • Morality Pet: Amity was once a friend of Boscha and managed to control her psychotic tendencies and bring sincerity to him. However, when Amity left, Boscha was free to act with impunity. In "For The Future", Boscha admits she misses Amity and resents her for leaving.
  • Moral Myopia:
    • In "Covention", Lilith nearly gets Luz to quit witch training but is distraught when she cheats over a quarrel with Eda, putting her future in the Emperor's Coven at risk, and blames Luz for embarrassing her.
    • Another short-lived example in "Lost in Language", where she snaps at Luz and calls her a bully, completely forgetting in the moment her own bullying, mean-spirited, and hurtful actions. By the end of the episode, however, she retracts her accusation toward Luz and admits that she hasn't been the nicest witch "either" and wishes to improve this aspect of herself.
  • Morph Weapon: By the time of "Eclipse Lake", her skill with abomination magic has developed to the point that she can quickly shift a small amount of goo into a variety of shapes for use in combat like floating shields, restraints, and a spiked Power Fist.
  • Mugging the Monster: In her defense, how was she supposed to know that the cupcake that she had stomped on belonged to the very last living Titan?
  • Must Make Amends: This is Amity's attitude towards trying to repair her friendship with Willow. Unfortunately she is so desperate to show that she can be a good friend again that she accidentally stifles Willow when the latter starts protesting about how Amity doesn't need to protect her anymore.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Messing up Willow's mind in "Understanding Willow" has a case of this where she's quite understandably mortified that she basically brain-fried her old friend, which is why she is quick to try to help fixing it alongside Luz. The rest of the episode hammers down hard on her as she also gradually both remembers what she did and finds out just how badly she messed up Willow by forsaking their friendship.
  • My Greatest Failure:
    • In "Understanding Willow", she comes to view her breaking off her friendship with Willow as this and by the end is desperate to do what she can to make amends.
    • In "Wing It Like Witches", she reveals to Luz that she was once captain of the school Grudgby team before she decided to change plays mid-game, resulting in her teammates getting hurt. Amity was so horrified by what had happened that she decided to never play the game ever again.
  • Narm Charm: In-Universe. In "Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door", Amity is visibly charmed by the extremely garish Tunnel of Love that Hooty set up in an attempt to help Luz confess her feelings to Amity. She later admits that she isn't as cool as Luz thinks, due to the latter thinking that said tunnel was far too tacky for someone like Amity to actually enjoy, no doubt due to Luz's own insecurities regarding her feelings.
  • Nervous Tics: When she's feeling highly uncomfortable, anxious or embarrassed, she'll clutch the hem of her skirt in a tight grip. If she's not wearing a skirt, she clasps her hands together.
  • Never My Fault: Amity blames Luz for embarrassing her and getting her in trouble, but it was ultimately caused by her antagonistic, self-centered, and patronizing behavior. Luz's Guilt Complex prevents her from calling Amity out, believing it's her fault. Amity was unable to understand simple acts of compassion. Thankfully, Amity does have a Heel Realization with this when Luz tries to save her life, making Amity see that she didn't actually take the time to get to know her as a person.
  • Nice Girl: As of mid-Season 2A, Amity is this, being a far cry from the Academic Alpha Bitch in her introduction as she is finally able to be openly nice to everyone without worrying about what her parents would do if she didn't follow their standards, and able to learn from her mistakes.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: Within her former Girl Posse, she was the In-Between to Boscha's Mean and Skara's Nice.
  • No Listening Skills: Before her Character Development, Amity exhibited a Jerkass attitude, refusing to listen to her peers and not caring for their perspectives. She ignored Luz's attempts to apologize, explain her intentions, and offer help.
  • Nonconformist Dyed Hair: Played with, given that Amity is a natural brunette on the Boiling Isles, where green hair isn't worth a second look. Both colors mean something very significant to her character.
    • Initially, she dyes her hair green, but this is at the insistence of her mother, who makes her do it so she'll match with her older siblings' naturally green hair — and, implicitly, Odalia's own, emphasizing her control over her daughter.
    • As her feelings for Luz develop and she decides to think more about what she wants for herself instead of what others expect of her, she dyes her hair purple to show how she's no longer going to just be what her mother wants. Her father, Alador points out that it's abomination purple in "Reaching Out", to which she responds with "finally, someone gets it" — symbolizing that she also feels like someone her parents only want to order around and has chosen to "own" it by transgressing familial norms.
    • By the epilogue, her hair has now taken on tri-coloration, the bulk of it resembling the faded pink she sported in the human world, her ponytail purple, and the hair on the side of her head her natural brown, representing how she's fully grown into her own identity while keeping the parts of her old identity, such as her renewed bond with her father, that she has accepted as part of who she is.
  • Non-Idle Rich: Despite her rich background, Amity regularly volunteers at the local library and at the start of the series was pursuing a career in the Emperor's Coven (which would be the in-universe equivalent of joining the military or becoming a police officer). The former is mostly because she likes to read to kids, and the latter is implied to be because in the eyes of the Boiling Isles, joining the Emperor's Coven is a pretty big deal.
  • No Social Skills: Amity is a wealthy, lonely girl who struggles with her people skills due to her inferiority complex. Despite her longing for companionship, her Alpha Bitch attitude and her belief that Luz's kindness is unintentional hinder her from finding genuine friendship. Amity refuses to apologize, focusing on her own predicament and never taking responsibility for her actions.
  • Not Afraid of You Anymore: In "Escaping Expulsion," she finally stands up to her parents and makes it clear that they will no longer control her life or hurt her friends. She crushes the Oracle necklace Odalia used to keep her under her thumb in full view of her mother, just to drive the point home.
  • Not Good with Rejection: Significantly downplayed. Amity's greatest fear is being rejected by her first crush, Luz, due to her fear that the positive influence in her life would not want to date her. She mistakenly believes Luz's destruction of the Tunnel of Love as a rejection but doesn't hold it against Luz herself.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Amity comes to realize this is the case between her and Luz, recognizing that most of the problems she has when Luz is around is always either because of her cold behavior or a misunderstanding about what Luz is doing rather than Luz deliberately screwing with her and she resolves to work on her issues.
  • "Not So Different" Remark:
    • In "Eclipse Lake", she acknowledges that Hunter is similar to her previous behavior, expressing empathy and understanding. She offers support, reassures Hunter that there are people who won't make him feel worthless, and offers a hand of friendship.
    • In "For the Future", Amity freely acknowledges how similar she and Boscha are when she reflects on the fact that once upon a time she actually did consider Boscha to be something of a friend, citing that she understands the position Boscha is in, while also stating that Boscha should let her go and instead embrace the other members of the Grudgby Team as Amity just can't be who Boscha wants her to be anymore.
  • Not So Similar:
    • The key difference between Willow and Amity in "Hooty's Moving Hassle" is that in spite of how much she struggles with her magic, Willow has real friends, Luz and Gus, who are there to support her and whom she enjoys hanging out with, while Amity's Girl Posse are only hanging out with her so that they can ride her coat-tails to success and Amity is shown to not even enjoy their company.
    • Amity and Hunter, both self-serving and insecure, initially struggled to understand kindness and live up to others' expectations. However, Amity's mindset changes after falling in love with Luz, while Hunter's focus on pleasing his uncle hinders his openness to others.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Her less-than-pleasant encounters with Luz led her to believe Luz was intentionally trying to humiliate her. When she catches Luz with her diary in "Lost in Language", she sees this as just another attempt to hurt her, and ironically calls Luz a bully for it.
  • Now, Let Me Carry You: Following the events of "Yesterday's Lie", she becomes Luz's primary source of comfort and emotional support as she becoming incresingly weighed down from all the guilt and trauma of her time on the Boiling Isles, allowing Amity to give back all the kindness and support that Luz gave to help her break out from under her mother's thumb in the first half of the series.

    O-R
  • Oblivious to Her Own Description: Subverted. Amity, initially seeing Luz as a bully, later admits her lack of friendliness and initially forms an Odd Friendship with Willow. Despite blackmail, they reconcile and become attractive girlfriends.
  • Official Couple: As of "Knock Knock Knockin on Hooty's Door", she and Luz are girlfriends, as the two of them end Luz's section of the episode asking each other out.
  • Ojou: Comes from a wealthy family who are influential enough to ensure that Willow wouldn't be accepted in Hexside if Amity didn't stop being friends with her. In Season 2, it's shown that her family owns a massive mansion, and her parents enter into an agreement with the Emperor's Coven.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Luz, an All-Loving Hero, doesn't hold Amity responsible for nearly having her dissected by Bump, while Amity has a grudge against Luz for getting her in trouble. King mentions this incident when they start dating in "Eclipse Lake", suggesting they haven't forgotten Amity's actions.
  • Only Friend: Amity rekindles her friendship with Willow but struggles with complex friendships with Luz and Boscha.
  • Only One Finds It Fun: "Any Sport in a Storm" reveals that she's the only person in the entirety of the Boiling Isles other than Luz and King (the later of whom was only drafted into the fandom because of Luz's love of the series) who enjoys the Good Witch Azura book series (much to her embarrassment).
  • Only Sane Woman: Amity acts as this, particularly towards girlfriend, Luz. In "Eclipse Lake", she prepares defenses and ensures Luz receives Titan Blood for a new Portal Door. This trait is often criticized before their relationship.
  • One Side of the Story: Amity initially had animosity towards Luz due to her blame for Amity's troubles. After accepting Luz's challenge, Amity turned a cold shoulder to Luz's apology and resisted her attempts to make amends.
  • One True Love: Amity never liked anyone romantically before Luz. The fact that the two are still together and are as affectionate as ever as adults as they were as teens when they first got together, heavily implies that Luz is hers.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Amity's open, loving, and understanding relationship with Luz, especially after they become girlfriends, is evident in her escape from her girlfriend in "Reaching Out" after Luz lies about her Abomiton Chaperone's involvement.
  • Opposites Attract: Amity, a composed and wealthy Uptown Girl, falls in love with Luz, a lively and energetic Cloudcuckoolander. Their differences make them a strong couple, with Amity becoming more rebellious and Luz becoming grounded and responsible. Despite their differences, their interests align.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: In "Watching and Dreaming", Amity resists her girlfriend Luz's nightmare by misquoting "The Good Witch Azura" and botching a Witch's Duel declaration, allowing her to recognize the situation and escape her nightmare.
  • Passive-Aggressive Kombat: Her first on-screen interaction with Willow is a series of very thinly-veiled insults. She has her abomination give Willow a star like hers (only "much smaller and meaningless"), and smugly tells Willow to "keep at it", adding that even she could get a passing grade, "someday".
  • Patchwork Kids: Amity's face is practically identical to her mother's when she was a teenager and even now they still have a pretty Strong Family Resemblance, but that said Amity's natural hair color, eye color, and talent for Abomination magic all come from her father.
  • Peer-Pressured Bully: As a Blight, her parents imposed a belief that she could only associate with powerful witches, leading her to break her friendship with Willow. This belief, coupled with her inability to show weaknesses, shaped her character throughout the show.
  • The Perfectionist: Season 1 of the show saw Amity's traits of achieving top grades and being angry when her badge was taken. Over time, she loses this trait, but it never fully disappears. In "Eclipse Lake", she fears not being flawless for Luz, leading her to secure Titan's Blood for her girlfriend. In "Thanks to Them", she expresses bitterness about being the top student.
  • Perky Goth: As the series progresses, Amity's behavior changes, becoming less volatile towards Luz and becoming happier and more positive. She defies her mother's will and becomes a girlfriend with Luz. By "Thanks to Them", Amity becomes a more joyful, optimistic partner in her romance with Luz, despite Luz's negative experiences.
  • Perpetual Frowner: In her earlier appearances, Amity was always shown with a sour disposition, save for when she was behaving smugly. She has her reasons, namely being manipulated and gaslighted by her Abusive Mom. With the help of Luz, she brightens up considerably.
  • Personality Powers: Amity's mastery of Abomination Goo reflects her desire for control and freedom, allowing her to shape it into various forms. This desire allows her to bond with her Palisman Ghost, as revealed in "For the Future."
  • Personality Swap: Played with in regard to her dynamic with her girlfriend, Luz. Amity, initially bitter and pessimistic due to her Abusive Mom, mellows in Seasons 1 and 2, dropping her distant Alpha Bitch mentality. However, in Season 2, Luz's optimism is crushed by horrors, leading to a broken, guilt-ridden Broken Bird. In "For the Future", Luz undergoes a healing experience through her mother's understanding and Palisman awakening, overcoming her bitterness and depression.
  • Perverse Sexual Lust: After returning Luz's copy of The Good Witch Azura book 5, it's revealed that she drew some romantic fanart of herself with Malingale the Mysterious Soothsayer and accidentally left it between the pages.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • At the end of "Covention", she revokes the spell restricting Luz from learning magic after hearing how much learning to become a proper witch means to her. It helps that Lilith technically made Amity cheat, and Amity cannot stand cheating.
    • In "Lost in Language", we see that after she acts mean toward someone, she will often write entries in her diary about how remorseful she is about it, and how conflicted she is about wanting to be a good person but also wanting to live up to her parents' expectations and not show any weakness. The same episode also shows that she is very kind to younger children.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Amity is the most traditionally feminine member of the main cast, who often wears orchid due to being on the Abomination track at school, has pink as her personal magic signature, and dyes her hair lavender part way through season 2.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Amity is one of the most powerful witches of her age, more than capable of taking down large monsters like Slitherbeasts, members of the Emperor's Coven including The Golden Guard, and cleanly sweeping the fighters in the Bonesborough Brawl.
  • Playing with Fire: She learns to shoot fireballs while training with Edric and Emira in "Adventures in the Elements". In subsequent episodes, fire magic tends be her second most-favored spell next to her abomination magic. After the events of "Eclipse Lake", Kikimora has taken to calling her "The Little Firestarter" whenever they meet up.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me:
    • In "Labyrinth Runners", Amity's overprotectiveness towards Willow stems from her fear of hurting her childhood friend, leading her to overcompensate, preventing Willow from proving her ability to stand on her own two feet.
    • In "King's Tide", When Luz says that she has to go back and rescue Eda, Amity tearfully begs Luz to follow her back to the reopened Portal Door with the rest of the Hexsquad as the Collector is tearing apart the Demon Realm. She is horrified when Luz attempts to sacrifice herself in order to buy some time for her friends to escape by holding the door open and rushes to come and grab her before King launches Luz back through the door.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Part of what fuels the conflict between Luz and Amity is the latter's refusal to listen to what Luz is saying and her perspective of what really happened.
  • The Power of Friendship: Alador observes that her friendship with Luz, Gus, and Willow is making her more powerful when she manages to overpower one of his abomination creations. He speculates that she might even be able to become a coven head one day.
  • The Power of Love: Amity's strength increases when her crush, Luz, is put in danger. In "Enchanting Grom Fright", Amity creates an Abomination to attack the Fearbringer. After dating Luz, Amity is strong enough to take on Hunter the Golden Guard to secure the Portal Key for her girlfriend.
  • Precious Photo: "Escaping Expulsion" shows that she carries around a photo of herself, Luz, Willow and Gus at Grom. When the Abomaton 1.0 is about to step on it, Amity stops Throwing the Fight and destroys it to save the photo.
  • Privileged Rival: Subverted. Amity, a snobby, wealthy student at Hexside, initially displays animosity with Luz but later becomes friends and girlfriends. She is subverted with Willow but eventually reconciles after understanding her.
  • Proper Lady: Although she's around Luz's age, Amity is this, having a more dignified and graceful air than most of the other females (although she has an inner dorky side). Considering her rich background, it's not much of a surprise.
  • Proper Tights with a Skirt: Amity's outfits throughout the series vary, with casual outfits featuring a black dress with orchid and red tights, Bonesborough Brawl outfits featuring a purple Abomination styled dress with black tights, Season 3 poster outfits with overalls skirts and grey tights, and Hecate Halloween Costumes in "Thanks to Them".
  • Protagonist-Centered Morality: Deconstructed. Amity's prior mindset focused on her status and reputation, neglecting the people she hurt and leading to misery and hindering connections. Her Abusive Parents, namely Odalia, "educated" her on how Blights, as the strongest of Witches can only associate with others of their caliber, and all others should be below their heel.
  • Psychological Projection:
    • Amity's distrust of Luz's actions is influenced by own her abrasive and distrusting attitude. She accuses Luz, of all people, as a bully. She believes Luz's embarrassing behavior and her attempts to reconcile with her are misguided.
    • Amity, a girl who has suffered abuse from her parents, interprets Luz's affection messages via Tamagotchi Emojis as an ultimatum for results, leading to a heartbreaking relationship between the two girls.
  • Purple Is Powerful: She is a talented student capable of controlling multiple Abominations at one time and she wears the standard orchid uniform of an Abominations student. Not too surprisingly, she also hails from a wealthy family. She later dyes her hair purple too.
  • Queer Colors: She's a lesbian with a purple motif; she eventually decides to dye her hair lavender as a stance on self-identity. Lavender has a long history of association with the queer community, and purple tends to be associated with sapphic women.
  • Queer Establishing Moment: In "Enchanting Grom Fright", Amity is revealed to be a lesbian when it's shown that her worst fear is being rejected by her crush Luz.
  • Race-Name Basis: At first, Amity just addresses Luz as "human", she starts to call her by her first name when they start to become friends and eventually girlfriends.
  • Rapid-Fire Interrupting: When Luz tries to explain the incidents to Amity, she always shuts her down saying that all Luz does is humiliate her, and get her in trouble.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech:
    • In "Reaching Out", Amity confronts her father, Alador, about his lack of involvement in his children's lives and his disregard for their wishes. She expresses his disinterest in joining a Coven, but he does promise to improve his relationship with them.
    • In "For the Future", Amity expresses her disinterest in Boscha's plan to rule New Hexside and emphasizes her focus on saving the Grudgby Team and the Boiling Isles. She acknowledges that she cannot be Boscha's ideal partner.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: She has this dynamic with Luz, serving as the reserved, studious blue oni to Luz's excitable, impulsive red. Interestingly their color schemes invert this, with Luz's default outfit being lavender and blue while Amity wears orchid (a reddish magenta). This even extends to their first elemental spells, with Luz learning how to create ice columns in the same episode where Amity learns to conjure fireballs.
  • Reformed Bully: She starts as a rival and bully to Luz, Willow, and their friends until she has a Heel Realization in "Lost in Language" and warms up to Luz. After the events of "Understanding Willow", she starts to make amends with Willow and promises her to not let Boscha and her posse bully her again. Afterwards she starts to slowly assimilate into Luz's friend group as well as ultimately becoming Luz's girlfriend.
  • Reformed, but Not Tamed: "Enchanting Grom Fright" demonstrates that while Amity accepts the need to improve, she doesn't immediately improve. She experiences hangups like validation and self-doubt but eventually improves in expressing herself more healthily. In Season 3, she is only mildly annoyed, indicating that she is working on improving herself.
  • Relationship Upgrade: In "Knock, Knock, Knockin' On Hooty's Door", Hooty tries to be a Shipper on Deck by forcing Luz and Amity into a Tunnel of Love, but it backfires. Hooty breaks down and nearly destroys the Owl House; Eda convinces them to confess.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Amity likely accepted Luz's duel challenge as an opportunity to revenge or prove her superiority, despite knowing humans cannot do magic. She becomes enraged when Luz uses Eda's traps to cheat, saving her life, and is furious about Luz's supposed treachery, possibly reflecting a corrupted version of Honor Before Reason.
  • Revenge Myopia: Amity likely accepted Luz's challenge to a witches' duel as a way to get revenge for school issues. She gets Luz beat up, makes her stop learning magic forever if she wins, and later undoes the oath.
  • Rescue Romance: Amity's romantic arc with Luz begins when she saves her life from Otabin during "Lost in Language". Amity warms up to her and falls in love with her. Amity returns the favor by saving Luz from Abomiton 2.0.
  • Rich Bitch: "Hooty's Moving Hassle" reveals that not only is Amity antagonistic, but her family is loaded and she lives in an extravagant house called Blight Manor. Subverted as later episodes reveal there's more than meets the eye. By the time of Season 2, it's all but averted, as she has become a welcome addition to Luz's friend circle, and later on, Luz's girlfriend.
  • Romantic Rain: In "Thanks to Them", Amity is properly introduced to the rain in the Human Realm by her girlfriend Luz. To demonstrate that unlike the rain in the Boiling Isles, which melts the flesh off of your bones from the sheer heat, Luz gently leads Amity out into the rain and lets her feel that it is completely safe, before happily pulling her out into the open as the two share a quick Twirl of Love and then embrace as the rain falls on them.
  • Rule of Symbolism:
    • In "Escaping Expulsion", Amity breaks a purple necklace, a magical focus that allows abusive parents Odalia to communicate and abuse her, symbolizing her firm stand against her draconian mother and asserting her own identity.
    • In "Through the Looking Grass Ruins", Amity dyes her hair lilac purple, a color she had previously dyed mint green to coordinate with her siblings and mother, expressing her disinterest in being her parents' lapdog.

    S-Y
  • Selective Obliviousness: Amity disregards Luz's words when the latter confronts her for nearly getting her killed, being mean, and ignoring her interactions. She believes Luz bothers her and gets her into trouble.
  • Self-Serving Memory: Amity mistakenly believes Luz is trying to humiliate her in "I Was A Teenage Abomination" and "Covention" when it was actually her own fault. Luz tries to stand up but Amity's No Listening Skills prevent her from doing so. She has a Heel Realization, though.
  • Shared Family Quirks: It turns out her face turning completely red when angry was inherited from her father, who does the same thing when he gets mad.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: While she's not bad-looking by any stretch of the imagination, she takes things up a notch in "Enchanting Grom Fright" when she wears an elegant dress for Grom night. Likewise, she looks very good in her getup for the Bonesborough Brawl with her girlfriend, Luz, commenting on how pretty she is]].
  • Shoo Out the Clowns: In "Agony of a Witch", she's still recovering from the broken leg she received in the previous episode and so she (and her flustered behavior around Luz) is absent from the very serious proceedings. This continues in "Young Blood, Old Souls", where her only appearance is watching the news report announcing Eda's impending petrification on her crystal ball.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!:
    • When she finally has enough of her mother's manipulations, she shatters the telepathy amulet she uses to communicate with her and threatens to humiliate her parents in front of their investors if they don't leave Luz and her friends alone, with Amity specifically cutting her mother off when she attempts to protest her actions stating that Odalia is going to listen to her for a change.
    • In "For the Future", Boscha offers to happily allow Amity to stay with her and rule over New Hexside and it's denizens together. Amity swiftly puts this thought to rest by stating that she both has better things to do and that she can't be the person that Boscha wants her to be due to Amity having no desire to lord herself over other people anymore just before she marches off to go find her girlfriend and the rest of the Hexsquad.
  • Signature Move: Starting with her duel with Hunter in "Eclipse Lake," Amity seems to favor molding Abomination muck into a Power Fist. She later uses a ranged variation that fires fist-shaped missiles (combined with Luz's ice glyph to freeze its target in ice) and can punch with enough power to, according to her father, very nearly shatter the forcefield of an Abomaton.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Luz, a brave and compassionate person, was the first to treat Amity with genuine kindness after cutting ties with Willow. She effortlessly fell for her, even though she had no reason to do so.
  • Skewed Priorities: In her initial appearances it appears that Amity cares more about her reputation and status than Luz's life or emotional well-being.
  • Slave to PR: When she first appears, Amity takes pride in her reputation as Hexside's star student and attempts to uphold it, including proving Willow's cheating on her Abomination project, cutting ties with her for being a "late-bloomer", and even destroying a picture of them together as kids. Her parents blackmailing her into stopping being friends with Willow likely heavily influenced this, as when she starts standing up to them, she completely drops this trait and proudly declares herself to be best friends with Willow, and the rest of the Hexsquad.
  • The Social Darwinist: Amity demonstrates the negative impact of this belief on people, especially children. She claims to have cut ties with Willow due to her struggles with Magic, and late-bloomer traits, but it turns out that the real reason she did so was due to being blackmailed by here parents, who do adhere to this ideology, especially Odalia, who made sure to arrange friendships for Amity that would keep her around people with similar beliefs, all of which makes Amity absolutely miserable.
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: As "Covention" shows, being the top student takes a toll on Amity's sense of self-worth. "Hooty's Moving Hassle" also adds in that she comes from a highly upper-class family, she doesn't have any true friends that she enjoys hanging out with, and she cut ways with an actual friend, Willow, long ago due to the gap in their magical talents. The depths of just how sad she is inside are exposed through her private diary entries in "Lost in Language".
  • Southpaw Advantage: Amity is one of the most gifted Witches of her generation, and only gets stronger as the series progresses. While it isn't obvious at first she is in fact left handed, a trait that is most apparent in her duel with Hunter, as Amity almost exclusively uses her left hand to command the Abomination Goo that she uses to fight. Additionally, her favored technique of forming an Abomination Gauntlet to punch someone is only ever seen used over her left hand whenever she uses it.
  • Spoiled Sweet: Played With. Amity was initially the opposite due to her mother Odalia's influence, however she but becomes a Nice Girl after being freed from her toxic influences. She cares little for social status and even falls in love with Luz, a wanted "criminal".
  • The Stool Pigeon: Of the "obedience" variety. Amity places implicit trust in authority figures and holds intense dislike for people who cheat, break or subvert the rules. This causes a lot of friction with her older siblings since she has snitched on their misbehavior multiple times and leads to them bullying her for constantly getting them into trouble, though this trope seems to become Averted over the course of the show.
  • Strong Family Resemblance:
    • She and her older twin siblings have the same hair (although Amity's hair is dyed), pale complexion, golden eyes, and facial structures. She is forced to dye her hair by her mother so she would be color coordinated with her siblings.
    • In a flashback, Alador and Odalia Blight witness Eda and Lilith's duel, revealing a strong resemblance between them. At 18, Amity grows more like her mother, gaining wide hips and ample chest, highlighting their shared family quirks.
  • Successful Sibling Syndrome: Amity mentions that her siblings Edric and Emira have a reputation for being "perfect" students, implying that being compared to them is part of the reason she is so driven to succeed. She also trains intensely for her magic school qualification exam in hopes of beating Emira and Edric's score.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Amity's cold exterior conceals a more vulnerable center, particularly towards Luz, whom she gradually likes but is too proud to admit. She becomes nervous and flustered when Luz is involved.
  • Summon Magic: Amity is a skilled Abomination magic prodigy, capable of summoning a giant purple Blob Monster, controlling or destroying other abominations, using abomination goo as a floating shield, and covering herself in abomination goo for armor or weapons.
  • Superior Successor: "Escaping Expulsion" implies that she's already surpassed her father when it comes to Abomination Magic, given that she was able to tear apart his Abomaton in about five seconds, and probably would have eventually overpowered the upgraded version too had she not deliberately thrown the fight. Alador himself even voices that he thinks she could be strong enough to replace Darius as the Head Witch of the Abomination Coven, something Alador himself could never manage.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: She has these, no doubt to reflect her high level of magical skill. They were inherited from her father, and serve as an indicator that she very much inherited his talent for Abomination Magic and then some.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: As it turns out, she claimed that breaking off her friendship with Willow was because of Willow being a magical late bloomer only after Willow brought it up first, because she didn't want to tell Willow the truth, that her parents didn't want them to be friends anymore.
  • Sympathetic P.O.V.: "Lost in Language" shows Amity from a different perspective than before, one that brings her better qualities and the sympathetic reasons behind her lesser qualities into a clearer view.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: In "For the Future", Amity shows a great deal of empathy for Boscha, likely due to the fact that they were once close friends, and understands that deep down, Boscha is hurting due to Amity herself having been in Boscha's position of feeling lost, and alone in life before she met, befriended, and ultimately fell in love with Luz.
  • Take a Third Option: In "Eclipse Lake" after her duel with Hunter, he gives her the option of handing the Portal Key over to him, or he'd come storm the Owl House with Guards and take it by force. While she does hand the Portal Key to protect Luz, she also she cracks it to take some of the Titan's Blood inside of it out before she does so, so she and Luz can still rebuild the door, and so it won't all get into the hands of the Emperor.
  • Talented, but Trained: Though gifted, Amity does have a strong work ethic. Unfortunately, this at first spurs her to resent Luz, believing that someone so new to magic seemingly treating it as just something cool to learn is beneath her. She also gets angry to an unhealthy degree at Willow when she cheats to get ahead in school, even though she was bullying her for not succeeding honestly.
  • Teacher's Pet: She was the favorite of the Abominations 101 teacher...until Willow's "abomination" (Luz) impressed him. This isn't seen as much afterwards.
  • Tears of Joy: Amity doesn't typically shed tears, but when she reunites with loved ones she's been seperated from, she almost always does so.
    • In "Clouds on the Horizon", Amity cries joyfully when she reunites with her girlfriend Luz for the first time in around a week, as well as the first time since she learned about the true purpose of the Day of Unity. Amity was already tearing up beforehand, and she sheds more when she sees that not only is Luz safe but that she has come to rescue her]].
    • In "For the Future", Amity once again sheds tears when she reunites with her siblings Edric and Emira for the first time since the Day of Unity, having been separated from them, and not knowing if they were alive for months.
  • Technician Versus Performer: She's the Technician to Luz's Performer. Part of why Luz rubs her the wrong way at first is because she treats learning magic as something fun and exciting, whereas to Amity it's her whole life. She eventually realizes that while Luz may view magic as something of a novelty she is also more than willing to put in the work required to actually learn, which Amity finds admirable, especially as Luz is a Magic lacking Human.
  • Tender Tomboyishness, Foul Femininity: Amity is an Academic Alpha Bitch who picks on those who are less powerful than her. Luz is a tomboyish fantasy nerd with Boyish Short Hair and is an All-Loving Heroine. However, not only does Amity get better, but they end up together.
  • Throwing the Fight: Seen twice in "Escaping Expulsion". While she is helping to advertise the Abomiton 1.0, she puts on a show of being unable to defend herself as it attacks her, not making any attempt to actually resist against it, until it almost crushes the picture she has of herself and Luz at Grom, at which point she dismantles it immediately which ruins the sales pitch for it, and starts the conflict of the episode when Odalia responds by getting Luz, Willow, and Gus banned from Hexside. When she rescues Luz from the Abomiton 2.0 she gets her mother to agree to allow them back into Hexside in exchange for allowing the Abomiton to win, and thus earning Odalia a profit off of it, a deal Odalia begrudgingly accepts.
  • Token Good Teammate: The Abomination track/coven features a group of substantially questionable characters, including a supernatural arms dealer who is also a neglectful parent in Amity's own father Alador, a petty, and needlessly cruel teacher in Professor Hermonculous, the well intentioned but still cold, and calculating Darius, and the power hungry student Gavin. While Principal Bump does care about his students, he's also apathetic to the bullying taking place at Hexside, and more than happy to have disruptive students tossed into the Detention Pit to be seemingly brainwashed into being good students. and Amity. Amity is the only named character specializing in Abomination Magic to actually be nice overall after her growth.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Amity is the Girly Girl to Luz's Tomboy. Luz is an adventurous, boisterous macabre enthusiast with short hair and an androgynous appearance, while Amity has a smoother hairdo and fashionable attire.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: In the Distant Finale epilogue of "Watching and Dreaming", Amity's appearance as an adult features a large one in an undercut. It fits her new occupation as an Adventurer Archaeologist in the employment of Lilith. Appropriately enough the ponytail actually makes her profile resemble Lara Croft.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Amity, initially considered a prodigy, significantly improves her strength over time, able to summon large Abominations with a small spell circle. In "Eclipse Lake", she surpasses Hunter, a Teen Prodigy, and sweeps the Bonesborough Brawl, attributed to her friendships and love for Luz.
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: At the start of the series, Amity was chaffing under the pressures of her Abusive Parents, and almost never smiled. After she falls in love with Luz, Amity gradually starts becoming much happier, to the point where she actually becomes the more cheerful and upbeat one in their relationship in "Thanks to Them", due to Luz's own experiences.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Amity develops respect and kindness towards Luz and Willow, showing kindness and concern for their safety. She develops romantic feelings for Luz and defends Willow from Boscha's bullying. In "Wing It Like Witches", she admits joining Luz's team would improve her social life.
  • Tranquil Fury: During fights, Amity usual adopts a rather neutral stoic expression not showing any emotion and doesn't banter or talk at all. In "For the Future", this is one of the tells that during their fight with Boscha, she and Matt have switched places via illusion magic, as Matt becomes unusually calm while Amity seems to be panicking a bit.
  • Trapped in Another World: In "King's Tide", she ends up trapped in the Human Realm along with Luz, Willow, Gus and Hunter after the portal to the Demon Realm ends up destroyed by the Collector.
  • True Companions: Played with. Amity, initially disliking the Owl House inhabitants and Hooty, gradually warms up to Luz's friends after their romance, eventually becoming close to the Hexsquad members and Hooty.
  • Tsundere: Played with. Amity's personality shifts from Sugar-and-Ice Personality to a more sociable persona, with Luz becoming her first real friend. As the series progresses, Amity becomes more affectionate towards Luz and becomes her girlfriend, showcasing her softening out.
  • Twice Shy: In Season 2. Amity's crush on Luz remains, but after the events of "Escaping Expulsion", Luz herself has developed a crush back. However, both of them become awkward, blushing disasters around each other after this happens. In "Through the Looking Glass Ruins", Amity makes her affection plain with a kiss to Luz's cheek, even if all it does is put Luz into Stunned Silence.
  • Twirl of Love: Amity frequently engages in happy moments with her girlfriend, Luz, as seen in "Enchanting Grom Fright", "Reaching Out", "Clouds on the Horizon", and "Thanks to Them".
  • The Unapologetic:
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards Luz after her Character Development, particularly after they get together where Amity is more than willing to do anything for Luz up to and including outright treason against the Emperor without a second thought, long before she has any proof that Belos is evil.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Amity is known for her intense anger, which causes her to seek answers or dispense retribution. As her Character Development progresses, she shifts her priorities, focusing on those truly deserving of her anger.
  • Uptight Loves Wild: The academic and dedicated student Amity is falling in love with the rebellious and free-spirited Luz. These character traits tend to help the other in a beneficial way; Luz reminds Amity that she doesn't have to be serious all the time, and Amity makes sure Luz doesn't get herself killed.
  • Uptown Girl: She comes from one of the richest families in the Boiling Isles and she eventually ends up dating Luz, a common human who is apprenticed to public enemy number 1. She's outright referred to as "classy" in "Knock, Knock, Knocking on Hooty's Door".
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: When she was young, she used to be cheerful and friendly who always loves to hang out with Willow until her demeanor has changed once her parents threatened to break their friendship because of their high expectations, turning her into cold and aloof person as she is. Subverted once Luz arrived at the Demon Realm and help her realize the error of her ways.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend:
    • Well, not "girlfriend" at the time, but oh boy, did Amity kick all kinds of butt in "Escaping Expulsion" when her mother's abomination tried to kill Luz, even demanding that her mother and her Abomaton, "Stay away from my Luz!"
    • She fully transforms into this by "Eclipse Lake" when Hunter threatens to get back at Luz for calling him "a bad but sad boy". It's a little played for laughs at first, but by the end, Amity is showing no mercy towards Hunter when he tries to steal the portal key from her, the only thing she knows that can help get Luz back home.
    • During "Clouds on the Horizon", when Odalia has Amity, Luz and their friends imprisoned behind a forcefield, she tells Amity that she'll be dumping Luz and getting a new girlfriend who's not on wanted posters. Amity's response is to create an Abomination gauntlet and start attacking the part of the shield her mother's behind.
  • Voice Changeling: She can use magic to make her voice sound like a distorted version of her father's.
  • Vocal Evolution: Amity's voice reflects her character arc, starting harsh and biting in the beginning. It gradually becomes smooth and soft as she undergoes Character Development and mellows out, eventually becoming brighter and more energetic.
  • Walking Spoiler: Good luck trying to talk about Amity from Season 2 onward without mentioning her feelings for Luz and their eventual relationship, or how she eventually stands up to her parents and rekindles her past friendship with Willow.
  • Wants Versus Needs: Amity, an Alpha Bitch bully, aspires to be the top student and graduate into the prestigious Emperor's Coven. She develops a love for Luz and admits to her father that joining the Coven was more of her mother's dream than her own. She becomes more honest about her desires and desires.
  • Warts and All: Even though Luz can be a bit of a reckless bonehead most of the time and can't ignore that, Amity loves those aspects of her and accidentally admits this to Willow and Gus.
  • "Well Done, Daughter!" Gal: Part of the conflict in "Reaching Out" is that she wants to have a better relationship with her father and hopes that winning the Bonesborough Brawl like he did will help in that.
  • We Used to Be Friends:
    • She and Willow used to be close childhood friends, but after Amity developed magical talent and Willow didn't, they stopped hanging out together. In "Understanding Willow", it turns out that her parents forced her to do so, and the two start to work on becoming friends again.
    • Amity's relationship with the mean Boscha is complex, with both good and bad memories. Despite Amity's departure, she maintains respect for her, despite her relationship with her being upset due to her parents' preferences.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • In "Understanding Willow", Luz is clearly upset with Amity after she set the memory photo of her embracing Willow at her birthday party. Afterwards, Luz makes Amity accompany her into Willow's mind in order to repair the damage that Amity has done.
    • In "Reaching Out", Amity gets deeply hurt by the fact that her girlfriend Luz lied to her about messing with the Abomiton 2.0 at the Bonesborough Brawl, thereby setting off the alarms and summoning her father. She briefly runs off in anger but calms down enough to hear why Luz was acting so strangely that day, which turns out to be because it's the anniversary of her own father's death.
    • In "Labyrinth Runners", Willow grills Amity on her continual overprotectiveness and downplaying of Willow's own strength. Amity quickly wises up to this fact and works with Willow to fight off the attacking members of the Emperor's Coven.
  • What Is This Feeling?: While to an outside observer it's pretty clear that Amity is in love with Luz, the Season 2 episode "Through the Looking Glass Ruins" shows that Amity herself isn't really aware of what her feelings are, or at the very least doesn't understand why they are so intense.
  • What You Are in the Dark: In "Follies At the Coven Day Parade", she's clearly worried and suspicious about what happened with Luz in the previous episode, and when Luz drops her phone, she has the chance to find out by looking at the recorded message. Despite talking to Willow about it, she can't bring herself to invade Luz's privacy like that and ultimately just talks to her instead.
  • When She Smiles: Her genuine smiles are very adorable, especially when she is around Luz.
  • Worth It: Amity's friendships with Luz, Willow, and Gus have shaped her true self; she is willing to defend her parents' Abomiton project, even if it means tearing apart their project.
  • Worthy Opponent: Despite initially despising Luz, Amity respects Luz's drive to improve herself and her ingenuity when it comes to magic. In a strange twist, this ends up causing Amity to fall for her.
  • Wrong Assumption: Amity initially thought that Luz was out to humiliate her, and even called her a bully until she realized that Luz was just trying to make up and befriend her and that Amity's own mean attitude was making things worse and keeping her from actually getting to know Luz as a person, thus making her decide to improve upon it.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: In "Thanks to Them", after Belos reveals that he successfully tricked Luz into helping him meet the Collector and thus learn the draining spell he needed to eradicate all life on the Boiling Isles, Amity reassures her girlfriend that Luz isn't responsible for Belos's actions. Amity even goes as far as to say nothing Luz could do could ever make Amity hate her.
Amity: I couldn't hate you, Luz. The fact that you still stand up for us means enough to me.
  • You Are Not Alone:
    • In "Thanks to Them", Amity assures Luz that she wants her to remain in her future, even in the darkest times, and parrots her initial words to show their struggle together. Amity promises to always have Luz's back.
    • In "For the Future", Amity assures Luz of her support, emphasizing her desire for freedom and understanding her feelings of missing her mentor and adoptive mother figure while showing affection and love.
  • You're Not My Mother: In "Clouds on the Horizon", she disowns Odalia, swearing to never speak to her again after she's proven herself to be knowingly helping Belos in his plan to wipe out all other witches and demons on the Boiling Isles in exchange for the Blight family being given more wealth and power. In keeping with her smug, self-righteous demeanor, Odalia just says Amity will thank her someday.
