Dinosaurs

     Elise

Arguably the main protagonist of the story, Elise is a six-year old subadult Indominus rex, the same one who had rampaged through Jurassic World over one long devastating day, but stopped at the last minute when Owen stepped in front of Blue. For the first time, she witnessed a human who respected her, and everything in her life changes.

Tropes that apply to Elise the Indominus rex

  • Abusive Parents: Dr. Wu, Elise's creator, showed very little concern for her or her care. When she is given medical treatment by Dr. Gerry, it's highlighted how her nature as an artificially created hybrid afffects her overall health - because so many species' DNA went into her, her teeth are those of several theropod species, crowding her mouth and causing dental problems.
  • Action Girl: Granted, she doesn't have much experience, so she relies mainly on her brains to win a fight when push comes to shove.
  • Adaptational Heroism: This version of the Indominus rex makes a Heel–Face Turn and didn't kill her sibling.
  • Anti-Villain: Before her Heel–Face Turn, Elise was a Woobie Anti-Villain.
  • The Atoner: While she no longer kills humans and understands that killing is wrong, Elise feels more guilt over the deaths of the dinosaurs she killed than the humans, both because she saw what she did as self-defense and because the humans treated her cruelly. Her conflict with Blake forces her to address the human casualties, too.
  • Badass Family: Elise's extensive (and growing) family includes Rexy, the surviving Raptor Squad members, Owen, Claire, Tim, Rosie, and Lowery. After Sobek's Heel–Face Turn, he seems well on the way to joining, too. Fuego and Lonicera also join when they are brought over from Isla Sorna, and she's on friendly terms with Alexander. Her genetic code also includes DNA from Rexy, Sobek, the Big One, and John Hammond himself.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Out of all the humans on Jurassic World, Elise is closest to Owen and Barry for this reason. They were the first people to talk to her and treat her with respect.
  • Berserk Button: Don't accuse her of eating her sister, don't harm anyone in her extended family, and don't hurt children around her.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Elise displays childlike innocence, loves being around children, and took care of her dying sister. However, she can also be very, very violent if provoked, and she had a dark streak while taking control of the raptors that later reminded Owen of the Big One, the unusually violent and intelligent raptor leader from the original Jurassic Park. This isn't a coincidence - Wu added the Big One's DNA to Elise's genetic mix because he wanted her to be ruthlessly intelligent and uncontrollable.
  • Big Little Sister: Despite being magnitudes larger and more mature than Rosie will ever be, the little girl declares she will be a Cool Big Sis to Elise.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Part of the reason she's so good around children is because she's a teenager in mind who knows her way around younglings. It helped that she had an ill little sister to take care of.
  • Big, Stupid Doodoo-Head: After they first meet, she calls Sobek a "butt-nugget".
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Downplayed - Elise has a sense of morality and knows the correct way to behave around humans and other dinosaurs, largely thanks to Owen teaching her, but her values differ from human ones in important ways. She dislikes and is confused by the concept of money, referring to it as "dirty paper", and insists on the burial of Madre del Diablo where the humans around her don't care.
  • Break the Cutie: Goes without saying that when she was little, she was as innocent as any other human little girl. Her beloved sister's death broke her.
  • Broken Pedestal: Elise, who had grown to respect and even trust Bridges to a degree, is horrified when Sobek tells her he killed T. rexes and baby dinosaurs.
  • Carnivore Confusion: As an obligate carnivore, Elise doesn't eat other dinosaurs or humans after her Heel–Face Turn, but she does eat cows.
  • Chameleon Camouflage: Elise has this ability thanks to her cuttlefish DNA. These days she mostly uses it to entertain guests by imitating their drawings or tattoos.
  • Character Tics: Elise has a habit of tapping her claws against her chest or the next nearest surface when she's confused or trying to process new information
  • Cain and Abel: Averted. She never ate or killed her sister — Small One passed away from terminal illness.
  • Code Name: Her codename within the ACU is "Ghost", after her white scales and her ability to appear and disappear thanks to her natural camouflage.
  • Combat, Diplomacy, Stealth: In emergency situations involving other dinosaurs like Sobek, Elise with her intelligence and natural weapons is Combat, the ambushing Raptor Squad is Stealth, and Rexy, with her wisdom, experience and desire to avoid fights whenever possible, is Diplomacy.
  • Despair Event Horizon: This turns out to be the reason behind Elise's rampage.
  • Driven to Suicide: Elise muses that, if she had not been shown kindness and continued her rampage, this probably would have happened.
  • Due to the Dead: Elise feels strongly that Madre del Diablo's skeleton should be buried instead of on display.
  • Easily Forgiven: Played with. While characters like Owen and Claire are forgiving of Elise once they understand the circumstances behind her actions, others who were more directly affected by her rampage are not. Blake and Debra in particular believe she got off too easily for her pre-Heel–Face Turn behavior.
  • Flipping the Bird: Owen teaches Elise how to do this, and she does it to Debra at one point.
  • Freudian Excuse: Stuck in an enclosure that was too small for her, neglected by her handlers, forced to watch her beloved little sister get sick and die, and treated like a monster for close on six years. No wonder Elise reacted as badly as she did.
  • Friend to All Children: Surprisingly so. Not just human children, but baby dinosaurs such as Love and an orphan Ankylosaurus draw close to her, and she is very protective of them in return.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Besides children, she shows great kindness to most living things she encounters, such as saving dozens of bees from spider webs or tumbles into ponds. She makes an exception to butterflies, which she kills on sight - this is because a butterfly knocked a beetle she talked to into a stream.
  • Gentle Giant: She's exceedingly kind and gentle around children, perhaps because she is quite young in mind as well. The third biggest, physically meanest dinosaur in the park is also the only one children are allowed to directly interact with.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: Wu engineered her to be massively aggressive and totally uncontrollable, so that she would backfire horribly on those who wanted her kind as weapons. He even went out of his way to give her DNA from hyper-aggressive sources, such as Rexy, Sobek, and the Big One (the Ax-Crazy leader of the raptors from the first movie). Naturally, Elise turns out to be one of the gentlest, kindest animals in the park once she is in a more healthy environment.
  • Good Is Not Soft: When push comes to shove, she will show you exactly why people feared her so much when she rampaged two months ago. Blake gets a small taste of what she's willing to do for the right thing.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Elise envied the other dinosaurs for having handlers who cared about them while she was isolated and her sister died in part due to neglect. This is partly why she broke Owen's relationship with his raptors and convinced them to turn on him, and why she went out of her way to torture the apatosaurs she killed. Of course, she does get better, and she deeply regrets her cruel actions during her rampage.
  • Heel–Face Turn: At her worst point, Elise rampaged across Jurassic World, killing many people and dinosaurs. She's come a long way since then, and is attempting to redeem herself. Her aggression index is lowered from red to green to reflect this, the only carnivore at the park to be so.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: A platonic example with Owen, as despite not being fully grown, Elise nonetheless towers over him as well as all the other human characters.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Elise generally didn't eat any of the humans she bit to death, except for the fat man (the paddock supervisor, Nick) hiding behind the truck, and she threw up the remains afterward since he made her sick. Granted, she didn't know about her human DNA at the time and she feels terrible about having done it later.
  • "It" Is Dehumanizing: People who believe that Elise has an animal mind call her an "it", including Claire, at first.
  • Little Miss Snarker: Owen's (as well as arguably Lowery's) influence seems to have rubbed off on Elise, as she is capable of displaying a good amount of wittiness at various points in the story.
  • Living Weapon: She was originally and deliberately designed to be one by Hoskins and Bridges, although Wu had his own agenda in her creation. Bridges still thinks that Elise, or Indominus rex in general, can still be used as weapons. Elise turns away from her destructive purpose after her Heel–Face Turn and uses her abilities constructively instead.
  • Martial Pacifist: Elise generally dislikes fighting, but will do it in self-defense or to protect people and other animals she cares about.
  • Mirror Character: Because Elise suffered from mental damage in confinement, she suffers from some instabilities. As a result, she sees some of herself in Bridges, who has mental issues of his own (although much darker than Elise's). Hart also points out that, repentant as she may be, she got off easily for some truly horrific behavior, much like Bridges does.
  • Misplaced Retribution: During her rampage, Elise tortured the apatosaurs she killed not for fun like Owen and Claire thought, but so that they could suffer like she had and as revenge against the humans who valued them. Later, she recognizes that it was wrong to take out her pain on the other dinosaurs, who hadn't hurt her.
  • Mix-and-Match Critter: Elise is a genetic hybrid made up of Tyrannosaurus, Velociraptor, Giganotosaurus, Majungasaurus, Rugops, Carnotaurus, Spinosaurus, and human DNA, among other species. Her raptor DNA comes from VM-07 a.k.a The Big One, the Tyrannosaurus from Rexy, the Spinosaurus from Sobek, and the human source, HS-01, is John Hammond himself.
  • Mundane Utility: Elise uses her color-changing abilities to mimic visitors' tattoos and drawings.
  • My Sensors Indicate You Want to Tap That: Happens several times in the story, though the first couple of times it happens she's rather confused as to what she's seeing
  • Nice Girl: Post-Heel–Face Turn, she becomes a very kind-hearted, gentle soul.
  • Obliviously Evil: During her stint as a villain, Elise's actions were largely out of anger and revenge, and she had no sense of her behavior being evil. While she has human intelligence, she had to be taught morality and social rules by Owen.
  • Opposite-Sex Clone: Elise is the genetic daughter of John Hammond, whose DNA was incorporated into her genome by Dr. Wu.
  • The Philosopher: Elise likes to muse on things like the nature of morality, what makes one human, and other deep philosophical questions. Many of her POV chapters have long narration of these thoughts.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: While not evil, Elise turns a shade of red with black stripes as a threat display when she is angry, as opposed to her natural white coloring.
  • Reformed, but Rejected: While Elise is accepted by most of the park staff once she proves she understands morality and is no longer a threat, Debra and Blake, who both directly lost loved ones in Elise's rampage (Debra's apatosaur herd and Blake's squad in the ACU), are reluctant to forgive her.
  • Rooting for the Empire: In-universe, Elise strongly identifies with the Joker due to his associations with chaos and declaration of himself as a "freak", Godzilla for his destructive, yet protective, nature, and sympathizes with Smaug the dragon.
  • Shipper on Deck: Elise encourages Lowery and Jackie to get together.
  • Ship Tease: With Alexander/Limper. At first she's just grateful for him rescuing her and having fun teasing Owen about it, but then as they go to part ways she's suddenly struck with the realization that maybe those Disney princess' weren't so silly after all
  • Silent Snarker: When you can't talk snidely, you write snidely and give withering looks.
  • Single Specimen Species: After her sister's death, Elise is the only Indominus rex in the world. Not anymore - Wu gives her viable Indominus embryos and the choice of whether or not the world is ready for them. And then we meet her older sister, the Indomitus rex.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: Due to their shared mental issues, Elise sympathizes to some degree with Bridges when she talks to him, seeing him as more reliable than her actual therapist. This is until Sobek reveals how much of a monster he really is and Owen tells her to stay away from him.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: Part of the reason for Elise's rampage was that she felt like she was already being treated like a monster.
  • These Hands Have Killed: Elise's actions weigh heavily on her mind and conscience after her Heel–Face Turn, to the point of believing that she is incapable of being "good" due to them. She does come to the decision that even if she can't be "good", she can still do good, such as through her shows for children and working with the ACU to protect the park.
  • Token Non-Human: With the combination of her intelligence and ability to understand human language, Elise is the first dinosaur to join the ACU.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: Elise and Small One are actually twin sisters who were born from the same egg.
  • Tragic Monster: Prior to her Heel–Face Turn, Elise's actions were horrific and almost destroyed Jurassic World, but a lifetime of neglect and abuse broke her almost beyond repair.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Honey. After having her first lick of it, she is thankful that there is yet another reason to save bees.
  • Translator Buddy: Besides communicating with humans, Elise can also talk to and understand Rexy, the raptors, and Sobek. This comes in useful when she is called on to translate valuable information from Sobek about Bridges and Tacet into written English that Owen can understand.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: As a young Indominus, Elise was completely innocent and loved her little sister dearly. The combination of years of isolation and her sister's death broke her to the point of going on her rampage.
  • Villain Protagonist: Averted - the story focuses on Elise after her Heel–Face Turn more than her time as a villain.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: Elise's human DNA and intelligence, as well as her ability to talk to humans, make her a special case for Jurassic World, and the ethics of having her on display is discussed throughout the story. Even after she learns how to read and write, there are characters who treat her like an animal.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Because the techs who subjected Elise to blood tests when she was young often missed veins, she is terrified of needles.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Before her Heel–Face Turn, Elise snapped due to isolation, the death of her sister, the only living creature who interacted with her, and years of being treated like a monster by humans.
  • Would Not Hurt A Child: Even during her rampage, Elise wouldn't harm newly hatched babies. This is why she is appalled when Sobek tells her that Bridges killed baby dinosaurs.
  • You No Take Candle: Justified - Elise has human intelligence, but she is still learning how to communicate beyond sign language and her written English is fairly broken. Her grammar does improve with experience.
    • Also, her communication with Sobek; since she has more T. Rex and raptor DNA than Spinosaurus, she cannot make most of the same vocalizations Sobek can. The best explanation that she or the humans can come up with is that it sounds like Sobek's speaking in a thick accent, and Sobek feels the same about her.

     Rexy

Jurassic Park's old Tyrannosaurus rex, now living in Jurassic World under the care of Tim Murphy. She is one of the most respected dinosaurs in the park, and Elise's adoptive mother.

Tropes that apply to Rexy

  • Affectionate Nickname: Tim, her keeper, calls Rexy "Mama". Most of the Jurassic World staff call her "Big Boss".
  • Big Good: Among the dinosaurs, and Hammond told Claire that Rexy would take care of problems at Jurassic Park if Claire took care of her.
  • Berserk Button: Entering her nest, or loud noises after 8pm.
    • She initially hated raptors. Even Owen earned her ire for working with raptors, along with the fact that he entered her nest.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Rexy rescues Elise from being killed by a prion-infected Triceratops, and later non-violently stops her fight with Sobek.
  • Cool Old Lady: Especially if you ask Elise and Blue. Sobek, too. She's loved and respected by the staff of Jurassic World to the point they nicknamed her "Big Boss", and get upset when they believe her saving of Elise potentially infected her with prions.
  • Dented Iron: Rexy's not as fast as she used to be and tends to suffer from arthritis, but she's still plenty tough.
  • Determinator: A 10,000 volt electric fence won't stop Rexy from protecting her adoptive daughter from a crazed Triceratops.
  • The Dreaded: She's a legend to the park, and every animal steers clear of her nest for a reason.
  • Good Is Not Soft: While Rexy prefers to defuse situations with other predators nonviolently if possible, she can and will put down dinosaurs who cannot be reasoned with and are a threat to the stability of Isla Nublar, such as the Big One and Madre del Diablo.
  • Heroic BSoD: After Elise sets out for Isla Sorna, she sinks into a depression, thinking that maybe she's lost another youngling.
  • Interspecies Adoption: She adopted Elise, an Indominus rex, and Tim, a human. She also adopted the Raptor Squad and Claire.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Rexy eventually befriends Blue and the Raptor Squad. She also respects Grant, Claire and also Hammond when he was alive. She also makes friends with Sobek after their fight.
  • It Can Think: Rexy is smart enough to recognize important people from her past, like Grant. As it turns out, her saving Grant's group in the old Visitor's Center was also intentional - she didn't like the Big One's sadistic approach to hunting and chose to intervene.
  • Like an Old Married Couple: Her behavior with Sobek starts coming across as this, with them even referring to Elise as their hatchling.
  • Mama Bear: Rexy is quick to protect her adopted children. She saves Elise from Sobek and the prion-infected Triceratops.
  • Never Mess with Granny: Rexy is the T. rex from the original Jurassic Park, making her the oldest living dinosaur on Isla Nublar. This makes her no less powerful or dangerous.
  • Odd Friendship: Because Rexy's previous experience with Velociraptors involved the psychotic Big One and her pack, it's a surprise when she joins the Raptor Squad. It's an even bigger surprise when she befriends Sobek after their battle, given that her previous encounter with a Spinosaurus was with the Ax-Crazy Madre del Diablo.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Her sudden sink into depression due to not being able to find Elise caused shock for many. Including Sobek.
  • Parental Substitute: Rexy takes on this role for Elise, teaching her and protecting her from danger.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Often Rexy helps sort out situations between other dinosaurs. She's the one who non-violently defuses the fight between Elise and Sobek, and was disgusted that the Big One hunted the humans for sport rather than food. She's also willing to abandon her prejudice against raptors, quickly accepts Elise as a surrogate daughter despite her strange appearance and behavior, and forms friendships with dinosaurs of other species.
  • Worthy Opponent: Sobek respects her as one, to the extent that he wants to leave her alive as his rival and hunt Bridges with her. He refers to her as "Wise One" after she stops him and Elise from fighting. After their fight, which Rexy wins, the sentiment is mutual.

     Sobek

The Spinosaurus from Jurassic Park 3. Weakened by old age, disease, and repeated attacks by poachers, he's transferred to Isla Nublar to live out the rest of his days in peace. However, old habits die hard, and he causes problems around the park so he can achieve his ultimate dream: battle a mature, highly experienced Tyrannosaurus (Rexy, in this case).

Tropes that apply to Sobek

  • Adaptational Heroism: He has much more depth in character and is portrayed in a rather sympathetic light compared to the Prehistoric Monster from ''Jurassic Park III'.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: All Sobek seems to care about is strength and fighting, and he is initially hostile and dismissive towards Elise. Once Rexy provides him with a good sparring partner, he calms down and becomes more tolerant towards Elise.
  • Berserk Button: Sobek hates the sound of a Nokia 3310 satellite phone. It turns out that the reason he persistently chased Grant and the Kirbys everywhere was because, after he swallowed one (which belonged to Paul Kirby) in the course of eating the mercenary Nash, the ringing would go off inside him when he tried to stalk prey, making it impossible to hunt normally until it was finally excreted from his body many, many hours later; he was smart enough to connect the constant ringing in his stomach to the humans because he noticed it only started after he encountered them and ate one of them. It aggravates Sobek so much that it's what finally causes him to come out into his paddock in spite of being lethargic after waking up from sedation.
  • Blood Knight: Loves a good fight, and he desperately wants to fight Rexy to see who is superior. He loses, but he's a good sport about it. He's also decided that, when his time comes near, he's gonna challenge Rexy to a fight to the death so he can go out in a grand and glorious battle, instead of letting age or disease take him.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Sobek's ethics seem to be based around strength and are different from human ones - on the one hand, before his Character Development he casually considers killing Elise for being "weak", but he also has no tolerance for dinosaurs and people who gratuitously abuse their own strength and hurt others who can't fight back.
  • Character Development: Goes from one of Elise's enemies to one of her closest allies and a Parental Substitute.
  • Cool Old Guy: Sobek is older and weaker than he used to be, but he's still able to hold his own in a fight against Rexy and is a fearsome Blood Knight.
  • Defeat Equals Friendship: Sobek ultimately loses his fight with Rexy, but he holds no grudge against her for that and the two become good friends anyway.
  • Dented Iron: Sobek is a tough Blood Knight, but he's aging and not as strong as he used to be. This is the reason why Bridges has him moved to Isla Nublar - age, disease, and attacks from poachers have taken their toll on him.
  • Dinosaurs Are Dragons: Elise associates Sobek with a dragon, specifically Smaug.
  • Everyone Has Standards: As big a Blood Knight as Sobek can be, he despises Bridges for his mistreatment of Isla Sorna's T. rexes and the dinosaurs in general as well as Carnifex for his violent, bloodthirsty nature.
  • Gender Bender: Was female at one point, but switched to being a male due to frog DNA used to create him.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Even after his views toward Elise have softened, Sobek's still not the friendliest dinosaur around, especially around Grant. Elise likes him just fine that way.
  • Graceful Loser: Sobek takes his loss to Rexy completely in stride, and doesn't hold a grudge against her at all. He's even willing to make friends with her.
  • Friendly Rival: To Rexy. He goes out of his way to help her feel better when Elise left for Isla Sorna with the ACU.
  • Grumpy Old Man: Spinosaurus are not normally personable creatures to begin with, but Sobek's old age has made him even more ornery. He generally dislikes humans, with the notable exceptions of Owen and his handler. His attitude towards humans may be in part because his overall experience with them has been less positive than the Isla Nublar dinosaurs, something Elise notices when she talks to him - while Rexy can trust Claire to take care of the island, Sobek's co-Alpha is Bridges.
  • Heel–Face Turn: With some help from Rexy, Sobek eventually settles into Jurassic World and stops antagonizing Elise. He even becomes one of her mentors, teaching her skills like fishing.
  • Interspecies Friendship:
    • Sobek befriends Rexy after she beats him in a fair fight.
    • Believe it or not, Sobek and Flower. They have a sort of mutual respect thing with each other, where Flower doesn't annoy Sobek and gets to live in Sobek's territory. For those who don't know, Flower is a Boer Buck.
  • I Have No Son!: Does not acknowledge Carnifex beyond being another Spinosaurus; Sobek does not know that Carnifex is his son, and disapproves of the younger dinosaur's Ax-Crazy nature and lack of respect.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Sobek is rude and antagonistic to Elise, seeing her as unnatural, and all he seems interested in is fighting. Once he gets the fight he wants, he becomes more agreeable. Sobek also turns out to have a sense of honor and does not hold a grudge against Rexy for beating him in a fair fight. He even grows to respect Elise for walking away from a fight with him, to the point where he becomes her fishing teacher, and seems to get along all right with his keeper.
  • Like an Old Married Couple: With Rexy, later on. They don't have an interest in mating, being different species and well past that age anyway, but Sobek's POV shows he considers her the most important thing in his life.
  • Meaningful Name: Sobek was a powerful, aggressive, and occasionally dangerous crocodile-headed god from Egyptian mythology who was both a destructive and a protective deity.
  • Might Makes Right: Played with - Sobek judges others by strength and skill, but he also has no respect for characters like Carnifex or Bridges who use their power to gratuitously abuse others weaker than they are.
  • Morality Pet: Sobek is possibly the only living creature Daemon Bridges sincerely cares for, although Sobek doesn't return these feelings and sees "Death" as a threat to Isla Nublar. This is because, a long time ago, Sobek inadvertently saved his mother from a Tyrannosaurus. On Sobek's end, Rexy starts out as this and is the catalyst for his Character Development.
  • My Greatest Failure: Sobek deeply regrets not stopping Bridges when he could. He wants to stop Elise from making the same mistake.
  • Odd Friendship: Given Sobek's past history with T. rexes, it's a surprise to everyone when he bonds with Rexy after their fight.
    • Also Flowers the boer buck goat. Though it's less genuine friendship than Sobek deeming the goat too much trouble to hunt so long as the goat doesn't annoy him too much and Flowers liking the fact that the Raptor Squad doesn't enter Sobek's territory.
  • Parental Substitute: Elise comes to see Sobek as a surrogate father, as Rexy is her mother.
  • Pet the Dog: Sobek's interactions with Rexy and later Elise show that he isn't a villain, just a grouch.
  • Scars Are Forever: Still has nasty burn scars, and remembers the flare that ignited the oil slick and burnt him.
  • Screw Politeness, I'm a Senior!: Elise's first encounter with Sobek doesn't go well - she thinks he's rude and arrogant, and he dismisses her as weak. He mellows eventually, with Rexy's help.
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: Unlike Rexy and Blue, Sobek is the most cynical and rough of Elise's dinosaur mentors, due to his experiences on Isla Sorna. He will tell her things that are harsh but that she needs to know, like how evil Daemon Bridges really is.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Sobek's keeper recognizes that he is quite intelligent. He remembers Dr. Grant and the Kirbys (and doesn't like them). He also holds a long-standing grudge against Bridges for the damage he did to Isla Sorna.
  • Stern Teacher: As one of Elise's mentors. While he's grouchy and strict when she makes a mistake, Elise recognizes that he means well and cares for her in his own way - he wants her to be an Alpha who can stand on her own and make tough decisions.
  • The Stool Pigeon: Bridges' voices accuse him of being one after he helps the Jurassic World staff learn about Tacet.
  • The One Guy: So far, Sobek is the only male dinosaur in Jurassic World. That is, until Fuego gets transferred to the park.
  • Token Heroic Orc: Relatively speaking, Sobek is the only Spinosaurus in the story who isn't beyond reasoning with.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: While "kind" is a stretch, Sobek mellows out considerably once he befriends Rexy, and his attitude towards Elise in particular softens. He goes from casually thinking about killing her for being "weak" to tutoring her in fishing. He also wants to teach her how to fight alone. Most importantly, he's the one to warn her that Bridges, who Elise had uncertain feelings about, is seriously bad news for Isla Nublar and reveals Bridges' mistreatment of Isla Sorna's dinosaurs, especially hatchlings and the T. rexes.
  • Worthy Opponent: Sees Rexy as this, being the oldest and most powerful Tyrannosaurus he's ever met. He wants to fight her, but doesn't plan on killing her so their rivalry stays strong (and maybe so they can go out and kill Bridges together). Once they do fight, he is so impressed with her that he agrees to share their territory, and the two become friends.
  • Villain Respect: Sobek is more of a grouch than a real villain, but he deeply respects Rexy, and even moreso after their fight. Elise earns his respect, too, for surviving a fight with him. He also likes Owen, and thinks that Limper will make a good successor. In contrast, he despises Carnifex, sensing that the other Spinosaurus is twisted and evil.

     Blue

A Velociraptor and the beta of the Raptor Squad. Recognizable by her silvery scales and the dark blue stripes that give her name.

Tropes that apply to Blue

  • Action Girl: As an adult Velociraptor, Blue is one of the most intelligent and feared dinosaurs in Jurassic World.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Barry calls her "Blueberry".
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: Blue is the highest-ranking raptor of the Raptor Squad and is also the best fighter. As for the "asskicking" part, Echo found that out when she challenged Blue for leadership.
  • Berserk Button: Do not try giving Blue regular Oreos. She can tell the difference. As for Oreo Thins, well, Owen is absolutely terrified of Blue discovering the existence of them and believes they'd have to evacuate the park again should she ever do so.
  • Big Sister Bully: Blue harassed Echo after Echo challenged her for the beta position, to the point where Owen had to separate them.
  • Big Damn Heroes: She helps Barry pull Owen out of Lilly's lagoon when he is trapped there.
  • Character Tics: When Blue puffs air through her nose in a huff it means she's made up her mind to do something and its to late for anything to stop her.
  • Collector of the Strange: Blue stole one of Owen's boots and refused to give it back, taunting him with it.
  • Cruel to Be Kind: Blue's occasional antagonism is in part to test Owen's leadership abilities and make sure that he's up to snuff as the pack's Alpha.
  • Determinator: As Owen notes, Blue will never change her mind when she makes a final decision.
  • Fingore: She bit Owen's finger off once. Fortunately, it was able to be reattached.
  • Forgiveness: Forgives Elise for Charlie's death and for temporarily convincing them to turn on Owen.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Blue is the most aggressive and temperamental of Owen's raptors.
  • Insult of Endearment: Calls Owen "Stupid Alpha".
  • Interspecies Friendship: With Owen and Barry, two humans, Rexy, a Tyrannosaurus rex, and Elise, an Indominus rex.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Blue can be snappy and a bit of a bully, but she'll stand by the pack in a fight, cares about Owen for all of the trouble she gives him, and grows to become one of Elise's most loyal allies.
  • Not So Above It All: As the pack's beta, Blue is often stern and no-nonsense, but she has a mischievous and fun-loving side, too. She's known to play dead for Oreos.
  • Number Two: As Owen's beta. When he isn't around, she's de facto leader of the raptors.
  • Odd Friendship: Blue's friendship with Rexy surprises everyone, since Rexy has an initial dislike of raptors due to her experience with the Big One.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: If she refuses to eat Oreos, you can tell something's wrong.
  • So Proud of You: Blue is proud of Owen when he reintroduces a reformed Elise to the Raptor Squad and later when Grant helps him truly communicate with the raptors.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Blue loves double stuffed Oreos, so much so that she even swears by them in her narration.
  • Tsundere: Blue has a love-hate relationship with Owen. She makes fun of him and snaps at him, but still respects him as her Alpha when push comes to shove, even though she knows he is not a raptor.
  • Troll: See Collector of the Strange, above.
  • Undying Loyalty: Like all of the Raptor Squad, Blue will stand and fight alongside the other members no matter what.

     Delta

A Velociraptor and a member of Owen's Raptor Squad. Is dark green in color.

Tropes that apply to Delta

  • Action Girl: As an adult Velociraptor.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Delta may be the most amicable, peaceful member of the pack; but please remember that this is the same raptor that held a very murderous grudge with Hoskins and saw fit to send him to an early grave when he begged for his life.
  • Collector of the Strange: Delta collects bottle caps to decorate her nest.
  • Nice Girl: Downplayed - while she is still dangerous, Owen considers Delta the best-behaved and most patient of the raptors. She is also the first raptor to befriend Elise.
  • The Heart: This is her acknowledged role in the pack - Delta is the peacekeeper.
  • Those Two Guys: With Echo.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Delta likes Oreos and churros.
  • Undying Loyalty: Like the rest of the Raptor Squad, Delta will stand by the pack when it counts.

     Echo

A Velociraptor and a member of the Raptor Squad. A bronze specimen that resembles the original raptors from Jurassic Park.

Tropes that apply to Echo

     *Major Spoilers* Small One

A younger Indominus rex and Elise's sister. From Elise's flashbacks and Wu's photograph, her scales were gray-colored, she was underweight, and her eyes had gold flecks in them.

Tropes that apply to Small One

  • Abusive Parents: Like Elise, Dr. Wu created Small One and didn't show any concern for her care or well-being. The reason she was so sick was because Dr. Wu placed her embryo and Elise's in the same egg - Elise inadvertently got more yolk.
  • Cain and Abel: Averted. Elise did not kill or eat her sister and is angered when Claire asks her why she did it.
  • Children Are Innocent: Small One was noticeably more idealistic than the more cynical Elise.
  • Companion Cube: A tragic example - even after her sister's death, Elise talked to her skeleton as if she was still alive.
  • The Cutie: Small One was innocent, idealistic, fun-loving, and very curious about the outside world, compared to her sister's slightly more cynical outlook at the time, and despite the fact she was dying.
  • Mix-and-Match Critter: Like Elise, Small One was a genetic hybrid of multiple theropod dinosaurs and other animals, including human DNA.
  • Morality Pet: Small One's companionship, even after her death, helped keep Elise sane in captivity.
  • No Name Given: Small One didn't live long enough and wasn't given enough personal attention to be officially given a name like the other dinosaurs in the park.
  • Posthumous Character: Even though she's dead by the time of the story, Small One is a pivotal character and very important to Elise's backstory and Character Development.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: She's not actually Elise's younger sister - they are twin siblings. Both of them are the younger sisters to the Indomitus rex.
  • Walking Spoiler: Elise's sister and what happened to her are vital plot points.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: According to Dr. Gerry, Small One suffered from terminal illness and would likely have died once her skeleton was unable to support her.

     *Even More Major Spoilers* Tacet/Lonicera

Elise and Small One's older sister, the Indomitus rex has been kept in confinement on Isla Sorna by Bridges until she is released by Hart. Bridges named her Tacet, but otherwise failed miserably at communicating with her. Chapter 78 reveals that Tacet was once named Lonicera and was a sweet, gentle creature until she inexplicably attacked Bridges in the middle of the night. Everything went downhill since then.

Tropes that apply to Indomitus Rex

  • Abusive Parents: A recurring theme for her species. Like Elise and Small One, she was kept in a paddock that was too small for her. Unlike Elise, Tacet has even less interaction with humans, and Bridges cutting her vocal cords out to keep her quiet did not help matters.
  • And I Must Scream: Has a human mind, locked in a small space all her life, and has no social interaction whatsoever... Oh, and she literally cannot scream because her vocal cords have been surgically removed.
  • Anti-Villain: She seems to be shaping up to be a Woobie Anti-Villain. Tacet is incredibly violent and aggressive, but between the suffering she is implied to have gone through and the fact that, unlike Elise, she had no one to go to for comfort, she is also a very pitiable character.
  • Ax-Crazy: Essentially a pre-Character Development Elise; Tacet has had little interaction with humans, and her first instinct upon getting free is to kill everything in sight - starting with Bridges and Romano.
  • Break the Cutie: Given what baby Elise was like, Tacet probably wasn't much different. She's only a day older than Elise is, and she's even more badly broken. She even thinks that getting her vocal cords cut out by Bridges was her fault.
  • Brother–Sister Incest: She finds a mate with Carnifex. But since Tacet was made from the DNA of Sobek, Carnifex's father, that technically makes them half-siblings. Elise immediately recognizes this and reacts with disgust. In their defense, they aren't aware of it and are both so broken they probably wouldn't care even if they did.
  • Covered in Scars: This is one of the signs that Tacet is a victim of severe mistreatment - many of them haven't properly healed and went untreated.
  • The Dog Bites Back: On being released by Hart, she immediately encounters Bridges, the person responsible for a great deal of her misery, and is intent on killing him. Given the intelligence of I. rexes as a species and Elise's initial hostility to Claire, who never physically hurt her in the way Bridges hurt Tacet, it's very likely that she recognizes him as such.
  • Evil Counterpart: While Tacet is less "evil" than very badly broken from abuse, she represents what Elise could have become without the positive influences of Owen and Small One in her life.
  • Freak Out: Used to be docile enough that she would come when Bridges called for her and even brought him flowers. Then one night, she attacked his arm seemingly out of nowhere.
  • Freudian Excuse: This I. rex has had very little contact with humans, much like Elise but for even longer, and during the interaction she did have her vocal cords were cut. Notably, she lacks a sister like Elise had, making the isolation even worse.
  • Interspecies Romance: With Carnifex.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Lomicera is eventually taken to Jurassic World for treatment, and it seems to have improved her situation and attitude some. While she's still damaged, she is showing signs of improvement.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Tacet's snout is covered in scars, with one large scar running down her neck where her vocal cords were removed.
  • Meaningful Name: A tacet is a direction in music that indicates silence - as Tacet was forcibly silenced by Bridges.
    • "Lonicera" is the scientific name for honeysuckle flowers, which were her favorite when she was younger.
  • Misplaced Retribution: She also attacks Romano, who didn't hurt her and didn't even know she existed.
  • Mix-and-Match Critter: She is a genetic hybrid much like Elise and Small One.
  • Shadow Archetype: Seems to be one to Elise - while she was able to turn her life around with the help of Owen and the Isla Nublar dinosaurs, Tacet has lived an even more tortured life, lost her sanity to a far greater extent, and has never had the chance for a positive relationship with anyone. She is what Elise could have been if she hadn't had Small One with her while she was growing up.
  • That Man Is Dead: Subverted. When Owen and the others find out her history, Tacet is given her original name, Lonicera, back. She seems okay with that.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: She's finally starting a friendly relationship with someone - Carnifex, of all dinosaurs. She's later taken to Jurassic World for treatment and is showing signs of improvement, if slowly.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Spaghetti, according to Bridges. At least, before she snapped.
  • Tragic Monster: Hoo boy. Tacet has been abused and neglected for her entire life to the point where wounds went untreated, Bridges cut her vocal cords, which prevents her from calling for help or communicating with anyone, and she didn't have a sister like Elise did to help keep her sane. It's no wonder she seems willing to lash out at anything around her.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: As a youngling, Lonicera loved to play in honeysuckle flowers and cuddled giant teddy bears. Then 'something' happened and now there is nothing of Lonicera left.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Bridges cut out her vocal cords, reducing her Mighty Roar to a squeaky growl.
  • Walking Spoiler: The mere fact that she exists answers plenty of questions about Elise and Small One.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: While Tacet is as sapient as Elise is, Bridges had her isolated, her vocal cords were cut out, and the scars indicate downright torturous treatment of her.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Tacet is Ax-Crazy and incredibly dangerous, but due to Bridges' horrific treatment of her and a living situation that can be assumed to be like Elise's at its worst, if not even worse than that and without the help of a sibling, it's not hard to see how she got that way. Claire wants her taken to Jurassic World on learning that she exists, but it may be too late to help her.

     Lilly

Jurassic World's Mosasaurus.

Tropes that apply to Lilly

  • Berserk Button: She's normally shy, but she's very territorial and will attack anything that enters her lagoon.
  • Broken Pedestal: Gray doesn't like Lilly's event anymore when he believes Lilly killed Elise. He recovers when it turns out that Elise is still alive.
  • Fluffy the Terrible: The largest and most powerful animal in Jurassic World is named Lilly.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: Lilly isn't evil or malicious - she just reacts how a large marine predator naturally would if something falls into her tank, even if that something is Owen. The only person ultimately killed by her is the paintballer who attacked Elise and Owen earlier.
  • Sea Monster: Elise is forced to fight her for a while to protect Owen while Barry and Blue save him.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Lilly isn't evil, but she used to be small enough and friendly enough that she and her trainer would go for swims after shows. Once she got bigger and her territorial instincts kicked in, the swims ended.

     Queen Anne

Tropes that apply to Queen Anne

Jurassic World's Baryonyx. Her keeper is Ed. As a spinosaur, Owen studies her to get an idea of how to handle Sobek.

  • Does Not Like Men: The only man she will allow into her enclosure is Ed, her handler.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Downplayed. While Queen Anne isn't as aggressive as the raptors or a Blood Knight like Sobek, she's scary enough to frighten Bark, a larger Suchomimus, and won't put up with any insults.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: For all of her temper and pompousness, Queen Anne is legitimately fond of Ed.
  • Meaningful Name: She is named after Blackbeard's ship, Queen Anne's Revenge.
  • The Napoleon: Queen Anne is only a little bigger than a Velociraptor, but she's frightening enough to terrorize Bark into submission.

     Bark

Tropes that apply to Bark.

A Suchomimus who lives in Jurassic World. Like Queen Anne, Ed is her keeper. Because Bark is a spinosaur, Owen and Claire study her to get an idea of how to keep Sobek.

  • Lovable Coward: Although she is the fourth-largest dinosaur in Jurassic World, Bark will back down from any perceived or actual challenge, and is easily cowed by Queen Anne, a smaller Baryonyx.
  • Meaningful Name: As a Lovable Coward, her bark is worse than her bite.
  • Shrinking Violet: She is shy and mainly keeps to herself hiding in the foliage, not even letting guests get a full view of her.

     Iudex Carnifex

Tropes that apply to Carnifex

Daemon Bridges' pet Spinosaurus on Isla Sorna, and the biological son of Sobek and Madre del Diablo.

  • Abusive Parents: Madre del Diablo abandoned Iudex Carnifex as an egg. Sobek is unaware that Carnifex is his son, but dislikes him, sensing the younger dinosaur's dark nature.
  • Antagonistic Offspring: Sobek and Carnifex don't get along - Sobek in particular thinks that Carnifex is arrogant and immature, and doesn't like that Carnifex kills for pleasure. He is especially disturbed that Carnifex kills T. rexes that are too young to defend themselves.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Carnifex enjoys fighting and especially hunting, but lacks Sobek's redeeming qualities and kills for the sheer joy of it. While Sobek refers to T. rexes as "powerful ones" out of respect, Carnifex refers to them as "easy kills" - this is likely because the only T. rexes he encountered were too young and inexperienced to properly fight back. On the other hand, he's more accepting of I. rexes than Sobek was on meeting one and calls off the fight with Tacet immediately on recognizing her as female, showing he does have some measure of restraint. Later, Limper teaches Carnifex the error of his ways and he starts calling T. Rexes "powerful ones".
  • Ax-Crazy: Carnifex has his father's temper, his mother's insanity, and is very, very violent.
  • Blood Knight: Inherited this trait from his father, and unlike Sobek he is not mature enough to know that killing isn't always the best option. He also hasn't faced an opponent who is truly equal to him in a fair fight.
  • Break the Haughty: Showed nothing but contempt for Tyrannosaurs, calling them "easy kills". Then he met Limper, and changed his mind after a good thrashing.
  • Brother–Sister Incest: Tacet is technically his half-sister, since she was made from the DNA of his father Sobek. To be fair, neither of them is aware and they both have such extreme mental issues, they probably wouldn't care if they were.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: When Bridges is gone, Carnifex just wants to escape his pen and kill things. Once he's released by Bridges to fight Tacet, his attention shifts to courting her.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He's romantically interested in Tacet, and is one of the first living things ever to be kind to her. It's also one of the first times Carnifex has shown a legitimate interest in something besides violence and killing.
  • Evil Counterpart: Carnifex has all of Sobek's flaws to an extreme degree and none of his good qualities. However, he isn't entirely devoid of positive qualities - he isn't prejudiced against I. rexes, unlike Sobek before his Character Development, and is fully accepting of Tacet despite her strange appearance and inability to communicate with sound.
  • Fed to the Beast: Bridges sometimes feeds people who anger him (like a poacher who attacked Sobek) to him. He threatens to do this to both himself and Dr. Wu. He also keeps a breeding pair of Tyrannosaurus rexes for the sole purpose of feeding their young to him. Because the young tyrannosaurs are inexperienced, they stand no chance whatsoever against a much larger and Ax-Crazy Spinosaurus.
  • Freudian Excuse: Carnifex was raised from a hatchling by Bridges, without either parent around to teach him the correct behavior for a Spinosaurus, and encouraged specifically to be the way he is through regular T. rex (and human) feedings. He hasn't had much experience with other animals that isn't set up to be violent, and his encounter with Tacet shows that he is capable of peaceful interaction with other dinosaurs. While this probably wasn't the only cause of his Ax-Crazy behavior and vicious nature, it certainly didn't help.
  • Hanging Judge: Invoked by his first name, and Bridges' role for him. No one leaves Mr. Iudex's court.
  • Interspecies Romance: With Tacet the Indomitus rex.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Limper, Isla Sorna's last adult male T. rex, thrashes Carnifex in battle and forces him to run away.
  • Meaningful Name: "Iudex", Carnifex's first name, means "judge", while "Carnifex" means "executioner". Iudex Carnifex's job is to judge and execute people Bridges can't reason with.
  • Morality Pet: Subverted. Bridges thinks of Carnifex more like a weapon than a pet, and Carnifex would be more than willing to kill him if given the chance. He does care for Sobek - ironically, Sobek has grown to hate Bridges as a bringer of death. As for Carnifex himself, he seems to be sincerely interested in Tacet, and his interactions with her are likely among his first nonviolent interactions with anyone.
  • Obliviously Evil: Between the way Carnifex was raised by Bridges and his lack of access to the outside world, he doesn't know the correct way for a Spinosaurus to behave and may genuinely not know any better from the way he was brought up.
  • Parental Abandonment: Madre del Diablo abandoned Carnifex as an egg, and he grew up without either parent. While Sobek is aware Carnifex exists, he does not know Carnifex is his son.
  • Pet the Dog: Carnifex gets along well with and accepts Tacet as a potential mate pretty much immediately on realizing that she's female, in contrast to Sobek's initially hostile attitude towards Elise. He's also the first creature in her life to be sincerely nice to her.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Sobek thinks of him as something of one from their brief encounters.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Carnifex has scarlet scales.
  • Right-Hand Cat: Bridges treats Carnifex more like a monster he feeds people and dinosaurs he doesn't like than any kind of companion or friend.
  • Split Personality: Carnifex himself doesn't have one, but Bridges imagines him when Hearing Voices as the brutish Carnifex and the dark, brooding Iudex.
  • Tyke Bomb: Like Bridges' plans for Elise, Carnifex was deliberately reared to be an Ax-Crazy weapon.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Carnifex is extremely ferocious, but his fighting experience is limited to young T. rexes who had no chance against him and fights strongly rigged in his favor. He's never faced an experienced opponent who was a serious threat in a fair fight. Limper, who's more experienced, destroys him.

     Madre del Diablo

Tropes that apply to Madre del Diablo

Madre del Diablo was Sobek's one-time mate and Iudex Carnifex's mother. She was to be exhibited at Jurassic World, but she turned out to be dangerously unstable and challenged Rexy, who killed her. Her skeleton is on display at Main Street.

  • Abusive Parents: Abandoned Carnifex while he was still an egg.
  • Ax-Crazy: Madre was...not the most mentally stable dinosaur around. She caused trouble for her handlers, refused to care for her own newly laid egg, and broke out of her paddock to fight Rexy. Sobek, who was once her mate, noticed and was disturbed by her erratic behavior, and even Bridges recognizes that something was seriously wrong with her.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Madre was crazed enough to pick a fight with Rexy. Thankfully, the park was closed that day.
  • Due to the Dead: Elise thinks that Madre's bones need to be returned to the earth, and that is why her skeleton still smells - her spirit hasn't passed on yet.
  • Killed Off for Real: Courtesy of Rexy.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name is Spanish for "mother of the Devil". She earned this name before she was taken to Isla Nublar.
  • Noodle Incident: Whatever happened around Madre del Diablo was bad enough to make Claire very reluctant to keep another Spinosaurus until Bridges negotiates Sobek's transfer. This is explained later that she was incredibly violent and hard to control, and on her first day broke out of her enclosure and picked a fight with Rexy, which she subsequently lost. Fortunately the park was close for the day, but the potential disaster still lingers in Claire's mind.

     Love

A baby Apatosaurus at the Petting Zoo, and the newest animal under Debra's care. Love stumbles across Elise while the latter is getting a checkup from Dr. Gerry and develops a bit of curiosity towards the larger predator.

Tropes that apply to Love

     Secretariat

A Gallimimus who lives on Jurassic World. She's been racing a tour bus for almost five years.

Tropes that apply to Secretariat

  • Named After Somebody Famous: Secretariat is named after the famous racehorse because of her love of racing.
  • Worthy Opponent: She thinks of a tour bus and its older driver as one, to the point where neither one keeps score after almost five years.

     Rocky

A Pachycephalosaurus who lives on Jurassic World. She is known for her firey temper and tendency to break out of her paddock.

Tropes that apply to Rocky

     Twister

A mischievous Pteranodon who lives on Jurassic World.

Tropes that apply to Twister

  • Troll: She enjoys screeching into a small cave so that her voice will amplify and scare her neighbors.

     Limper/Alexander

A Tyrannosaurus rex with a limp who lives on Isla Sorna. He used to be the baby T. rex with a broken leg from The Lost World, now grown into a large though mellower adult.

Tropes that apply to Limper

  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: He's considered the ruler of Isla Sorna after he bested Carnifex in a fight.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Is quite pleasant for a T. rex, but a T. rex nonetheless.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Saves Elise from Carnifex after being lead to the fight by Bridges.
  • The Dreaded: Carnifex is left absolutely terrified of running into him again after their fight.
  • Handicapped Badass: Limper's limp does nothing to stop him from becoming one of the most powerful predators on Isla Sorna, even earning Sobek's respect.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: While he doesn't eat any humans now, his first kill was Peter Ludlow. Hey, he had it coming.
  • Meaningful Name: Limper used to be the T. rex baby with a broken leg. Although his leg's healed, he still has a noticeable limp. In chapter 81 Romano decides to name him Alexander; after Alexander The Great, because he laid claim to the entire Island of Isla Sorna.
  • Nice Guy: The first thing he does after taking a spit take to the face from a startled Elise is to shake it off and rumble a polite greeting.
  • Last of His Kind: After Bridges' purge of Isla Sorna's T. rexes, Limper is the only adult male T. rex left.
  • Ship Tease: he bounces back and forth on if Elise would make a good mate at first, settling on being ok with it after getting to know her better, to the point that he ask her to stay on the island with him. That said he's not even in a rush to mate with her, he just really likes her and her company. When they part ways the narration makes it clear that it will happen for them eventually, just not right now

     Fuego

The leader of a small uninfected Velociraptor pack on Isla Sorna. He originally was assigned to a human tamer, Derick, but escaped into the wild.

Tropes that apply to Fuego

  • A Father to His Men: Romano recognizes that Fuego is an courageous pack leader and is loyal to his fellow raptors.
  • The Atoner: After nearly his whole pack dies.
  • Berserk Button: Eminem music
  • Foil: To Blue, who also has a willful nature, high intelligence, a hidden fun-loving side, and a short temper. Like her, Fuego also knows that an adult Tyrannosaurus rex is a powerful ally. Unlike her, he had no positive relationship or respect for his human Alpha, and escaped into the wilds of Isla Sorna as soon as he could. As it turned out, he had some help from Romano, to spare the raptors from being put down.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: He was noted by Derick, his old keeper, as being highly aggressive. Ironically, being in the wild caused him to mellow out a bit.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Fuego seems interested in forming an alliance with Limper, in part due to pragmatism - his pack is small and is having trouble with food.
  • I Let Gwen Stacy Die: More like I let my whole pack except the newest one who just recently joined die.
  • It's All My Fault: See above.
  • The Leader: Of his pack, including Cheshire, his Number Two.
  • Meaningful Name: "Fuego" means "fire" in Spanish.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: After humans destroyed his pack's eggs, Fuego personally hunted them down. He recognizes that this was a mistake, since he returned home to a weakened pack that lost several members.
  • Sole Survivor: Much like Blue in the original movie, Fuego is the only survivor of his pack for rescuing humans.
  • Survivor's Guilt: Is clearly suffering from this in light of the death of all his pack, save Short One, who wasn't even an original part and leaves shortly after.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: After the battle with Carnifex, Fuego is transferred to Jurassic World.

     The Troodon

A pack of Troodon, living on Isla Sorna.

Tropes that apply to the Troodon

  • Always Chaotic Evil: One of the few completely unsympathetic dinosaur species in the story, and easily the most unpleasant.
  • Body Horror: The way they reproduce is still the same as in Jurassic Park: The Game - they lay their eggs in living creatures paralyzed by their venom.
  • Feathered Fiend: Unlike the raptors and Gallimimus, they retained some of the feathers of their original counterparts.
  • Obliviously Evil: Like most of the more violent dinosaurs, as vicious as they are the Troodon don't have a human concept of right and wrong.
  • Shotguns Are Just Better: One of them ends up being blasted and killed by Bridges' shotgun.

     Gypsy

A mother Concavenator at Isla Sorna. Her son is Quasimodo.

Tropes that apply to Gypsy

  • Mama Bear: Hart found this out the hard way after scaring her son Quasimodo.
  • So Proud of You: She feels this way when her son kills Hart.

     Quasimodo

A baby Concavenator that lives with his mother Gypsy at Isla Sorna.

Tropes that apply to Quasimodo

Humans

    Owen Grady

An employee of Jurassic World and leader of the Raptor Squad. He is the catalyst for Elise's Heel–Face Turn when he realizes that there's human DNA in her and she can talk to people.

Tropes that apply to Owen

  • Badass in Distress: At one point, Owen upsets Rexy and has to be saved by Elise. He also falls in Lilly's pool and is rescued by a team effort from Elise, Barry, and Blue.
  • Badass Biker: Uses a motorcycle to keep up with Elise and the Raptor Squad.
  • Canon Character All Along: Within the setting of this fic, Owen Grady was the kid whom Dr. Grant scared at the Velociraptor dig site back in Jurassic Park.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Skirts into this territory during his "war" with the petting zoo, especially when he slips Debra laxatives and tries to recruit Tim to (temporarily) steal her things. Luckily, Debra is okay and doesn't take it as badly as she could have, and Rick talks Owen into stopping before any real harm is done.
  • Faking the Dead: Elise helps him do this to protect him from Rexy, whose Berserk Button he inadvertently pressed. Rexy isn't fooled for long, but she doesn't really care.
  • Fluffy Tamer: Owen has a knack for working with highly dangerous animals like his four raptors, and he single-handedly stopped Elise's rampage by communicating with her. Even Sobek takes a liking to him.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Owen is an experienced animal trainer, and gets along reasonably well with most of the dinosaurs on Jurassic World - except for Queen Anne and initially Rexy.
  • Interspecies Friendship: While his relationship with his raptors is initially tense, something Elise took advantage of during her rampage, it tightens once he defends Blue and when he learns to talk to the Squad. Owen's also one of Elise's closest human friends and one of her main advocates at Jurassic World.
  • The Leader: Owen is the alpha of the Raptor Squad, even though he is human.
  • Morality Chain: He serves as one to Elise early in the story.
  • No Hero to His Valet: Compared to how he was as a kid at Dr. Grant's Velociraptor dig over 20 years ago, Owen has matured somewhat as an adult, and has learned to respect raptors, but Grant jokes about the episode to Dr. Gerry.
  • Oh, Crap!: He has a big one at the beginning of the story when he observes Elise's movements and realizes that she has human DNA.
    • He has a bigger one when Elise figures out the meaning of Wu's poem and realizes that Elise and Small One were twins born from the same egg. This means there is a third I. Rex out there.
  • Papa Wolf: Jumps to Elise's defense when Debra calls her a monster, and is a strong proponent that Elise stays in Jurassic World with her adoptive family. He is also very protective of his raptors - the catalyst for Elise's Heel–Face Turn was when he stood in front of Blue to protect her from the rampaging Indominus rex.
  • Parental Substitute: Owen raised all four of his raptors from the egg. He becomes one for Elise, too, considering her a daughter to him. He has also had to act like this for his niece, Rosie.
  • The Prankster: Occasionally shows shades of this, especially during his "war" with the Petting Zoo. Rick convinces him to stop by explaining Debra's reasons for her actions.
  • So Proud of You: When Blue made her first kill.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Grant teaches Owen how to make raptor vocalizations using a cast of a Velociraptor resonating chamber, strengthening his bond with the Raptor Squad.
  • Supporting Protagonist: While Owen enables Elise's Heel–Face Turn and is a major character, Elise is the main character, not him.
  • Team Dad: For the Raptor Squad and Elise.
  • Tranquil Fury: He maintains a cool tone of voice during his confrontation with Bridges on Isla Sorna. Even when slugging him in the face.

     Claire Dearing

The park manager at Jurassic World. Her relationship with Elise is initially chilly, but the two patch things up fairly quickly.

Tropes that apply to Claire.

  • The Atoner: Claire wants to make up for the mental damage she caused Elise through her neglect.
  • Berserk Button: When she learns that Bridges killed baby Tyrannosaurus, she goes ballistic.
  • Big Good: As Masarani's successor, Claire runs things at Jurassic World. Elise acknowledges Claire as a human Alpha, as Rexy is an Alpha among the dinosaurs.
  • Dirty Business: She initially planned to put Elise down, even after discovering her intelligence. She relents and learns to accept Elise.
  • Ethereal White Dress: Claire is usually seen in white clothes. This causes Rexy to associate her with Hammond - to her, Claire filled the void that Hammond left when he died.
  • Honest Corporate Executive: Claire is in charge of Jurassic World after Masarani's death and is a good person.
  • Interspecies Adoption: Rexy has adopted Claire as one of her children, and the two share a deep mutual respect for one another.
  • Mama Bear: Very protective of her nephews and, once she comes to understand her sapience, Elise.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Claire is shocked to learn how her failure to help Elise when she was calling for it and her general ignorance of the situation contributed to the mental damage to the young Indominus rex.
  • Not So Stoic: Claire is deeply upset by her role in Elise's breakdown and how she was wrong about what happened to Elise's sister. She cries as she apologizes to Elise.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: As park manager, Claire takes her job and the animals' welfare very seriously.
  • The Un-Smile: Puts one on in front of investors.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Claire is never a bad person, but she's slower to understand Elise's situation and her sapience than Owen is. Once she comes around, though, she becomes a firm ally.
  • Tragic Bigot: Claire dislikes Spinosaurus due to Madre del Diablo's rampage...not completely unlike how Bridges hates T. rexes because one almost killed his mother, in both cases judging a whole dinosaur species due to one individual's actions. Unlike Bridges, Claire is able to overcome this prejudice enough to let Sobek move in.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: Claire is slower to recognize Elise as a sapient being than Owen is, referring to her as "it", and initially attempting to have her euthanized as a threat to Jurassic World. She does get better when she and Elise come to a mutual understanding and she learns the real reasons behind Elise's actions.

     Barry Reed

A Jurassic World employee who assists Owen in caring for his Velociraptors.

Tropes that apply to Barry

  • Big Damn Heroes: Helps Blue pull Owen out of Lilly's tank.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Even moreso than Owen. While Owen has to be stern sometimes with his raptors to keep their respect, Barry is the one who's more openly affectionate with them. He's also quick to give Elise a chance and is one of the first human characters to treat her with respect.
  • Fluffy Tamer: Barry wins Elise's trust very quickly, and not long after she was rampaging through the park.
  • Manly Tears: At Charlie's funeral.
  • Named by the Adaptation: In canon, only his given name was known before Jurassic World: Evolution revealed his surname (Sembène). As this fanfic was written before that reveal, it eventually gave him the surname "Reed"... in Chapter 88.
  • Nice Guy: Barry is one of the kindest people in the story.
  • Number Two: As an assistant tamer to Owen.
  • Team Mom: Barry is more openly affectionate with the raptors than Owen is allowed to be as Alpha, giving them treats and affectionate nicknames.

     Lowery Cruthers

Tropes that apply to Lowery

A control room operator who works at Jurassic World.

  • Ascended Fanboy: A huge dinosaur nerd and a Jurassic World employee.
  • Big Brother Is Watching: Played for laughs. Lowery uses robotic bird cameras around Jurassic World to keep an eye on Elise. Elise throws mud on the birds.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Lowery is introduced snarking at Owen for knocking the toy dinosaurs off his desk.
  • Non-Action Guy: While he becomes a trusted friend of Elise, Lowery doesn't interact with her as much outside of Control. He does come out to give her American soil for Small One.
  • Oh, Crap!! When Owen is attacked by paintballers, Lowery sarcastically orders Security to get those pricks before Elise sets the raptors on them. He then yells the uncensored version of this after quickly realizing that was exactly what Elise was about to do.
  • Shipper on Deck: Along with the rest of Control, Lowery eagerly ships "Sexy"/"Robek".

     Tim Murphy

The keeper of Rexy, Jurassic World's Tyrannosaurus rex. He is the same Tim Murphy from the original Jurassic Park, now all grown up.

Tropes that apply to Tim

  • Affectionate Nickname: Tim calls Rexy "Mama".
  • Ascended Fanboy: As a boy, Tim was a big fan of dinosaurs, and now he's an employee at Jurassic World, working with them every day.
  • Interspecies Adoption: Rexy has adopted Tim as one of her children.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: A non-villainous example, and played for laughs. When Owen recruits him for the prank war with the Petting Zoo, Tim returns Debra's stolen things right away.
  • Nice Guy: Tim is pleasant, good-natured, and helpful to Owen and Elise.

     Dr. Gerald Harding

Jurassic World's chief veterinarian.

Tropes that apply to Dr. Gerry

  • The Dreaded: A humorous example - he's the only person Owen's raptors truly fear.
  • Dr. Jerk: A Jerk with a Heart of Gold variation. He's known for chewing out handlers who give their animals things they aren't supposed to - like Oreos.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While Dr. Gerry can be frightening, he does care about the animals and is looking out for their welfare. When he thinks that Elise has to be euthanized, he tries his best to be sympathetic and understanding toward Owen and is relieved when he doesn't have to go through with it. He also goes to his office and cries when he learns about what happened to Small One.
  • Manly Tears: Cries in his office when he learns the truth about what happened to Elise's sister.
  • Screw Politeness, I'm a Senior!: Dr. Gerry isn't afraid to tell handlers off for improper animal care.

     Jackie

One of Jurassic World's veterinarians, and protege to Dr. Gerry.

Tropes that apply to Jackie.

     Judge Knight

A judge for the custody case between Jurassic World and InGen.

  • Amoral Attorney: Averted. Knight is a Reasonable Authority Figure.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Knight recognizes InGen's mistreatment of Elise and Elise's human intelligence after watching her solve a puzzle and holding a conversation with her, and fully intends to have Bridges arrested when the existence of a third I. rex is revealed - she indicates that he didn't know much about what he was working with.

     Graves

Tropes that apply to Graves

Jurassic World's attorney hired by Claire for the custody case over Elise's ownership.

  • Amoral Attorney: Averted. Graves is on Elise's side and seems to be a decent man (although Elise still thinks he smells bad).
  • Deadpan Snarker: Says that he wouldn't like to take his chances when Claire tells him Rexy would like him, considering Rexy's history with lawyers.
  • Goofy Print Underwear: Graves wears Superman pajamas, a fact which surprises Claire.

     Rosie

Tropes that apply to Rosie

Owen's niece who comes to Jurassic World for a visit.

     Dr. Alan Grant

A paleontologist and a major character from Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park 3. He is called to help provide evidence for Elise's custody case.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Rexy calls him "Dusty" because of his scent.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Grant is possibly Lowery and Elise's only match in the sarcasm department.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Grant can be snappy at times, but no one doubts that he's firmly on Elise's side.
  • No Hero to His Valet: Grant knew Owen Grady back when he was a kid, and scared him by pretending to slash his belly with a fossilized raptor claw.
  • Odd Friendship: Grant is one of the only people Rexy respects enough to allow him to touch her.
  • Stunned Silence: He is shocked when Elise solves a puzzle given to her like a human would, as opposed to a Velociraptor like Blue.
  • Unexpected Character: In-universe, everyone on both sides is surprised to see him called in to help in Elise's case.

     Daemon Bridges

The current CEO of InGen, Daemon Bridges is an amoral and corrupt businessman, and the closest character the story has to a Big Bad. He can be seen as a representative of everything that went wrong with InGen ever since Hammond's time.

Tropes that apply to Bridges

  • Asshole Victim: Nobody's complaining about him being lost forever in Isla Sorna's vast cave system.
  • Ax-Crazy: While he is able to conceal it fairly well in public, Bridges is a pyromaniac, lacks empathy or the capacity for remorse, and is mentally unstable to a frightening degree. It's implied to run in his family - his mother was mentally ill as well.
  • Amoral Attorney: A former lawyer and easily the most evil human in the story.
  • Animals Hate Him: Many dinosaurs throughout the story, including Elise, the raptors, Rexy, and even Sobek, can tell that something's very wrong with Bridges. Sobek later on wants to outright kill him.
  • Bad Boss: He's not above using threats to keep his employees in line. This tendency has started to bite him - his rejection of an organ match for Hart's daughter Clementine causes Hart to turn against him.
  • Bait the Dog: Bridges loses all sympathy when he and Jack murder Blake and cover up the crime, with no remorse or guilt at all on Bridges' part. Then there's what he did to Hart's daughter and Tacet.
  • Big Bad: Bridges is the source of most of the story's conflicts - he wants to use Elise's species as living weapons, tries to have Elise herself taken to Isla Sorna, and is the one who brings Sobek to Isla Nublar. As the CEO of InGen, he's also behind the militarization of dinosaurs, Hoskins' actions in Jurassic World, came up with the plan to use Owen's raptors as weapons, and commissioned the creation of Elise and the I. rex species in the first place as a Living Weapon ( although Wu had his own plans for her).
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Appears likable and personable in public, but he's a pyromaniac Corrupt Corporate Executive.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Possibly trips a small child to provoke Elise, and is fearless around her. He also abused Tacet, a large and sapient carnivorous dinosaur.
  • Comforting the Widow: He is romantically interested in Lucia, Robert Dodgson's widow. On the other hand, this trope is a part of why he won't outright say so to her.
  • Composite Character: Appears to be an amalgamation of the novel's John Hammond (a greedy Jerkass) as well as several other corrupt businessman archetypes.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: As the new head of InGen.
  • Deadly Euphemism: Uses these to fool the poacher he plans to feed to Iudex Carnifex into thinking he's going to see a human attorney. He also calls Carnifex's feedings "playdates".
  • Disproportionate Retribution:
    • A T. rex almost killed his mother. In revenge, he almost has the entire wild population wiped out. Romano calls him out on this.
    • When a compy scuffed his shoes, he killed it and had its stuffed corpse displayed in his office.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Adored his ailing mother, even if he did bring her to Isla Sorna. The reason why he's such a big fan of Spinosaurus as a species is because Sobek inadvertently saved her from a rampaging T. rex.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Besides his mother and Sobek, Bridges admits in his narration that he has come to respect and even like Elise to the point where he has no intentions of deliberately harming her, and he also cares deeply about Romano (although this doesn't stop him from threatening and yelling at him). He also seems romantically interested in Robert Dodgson's widow, Lucia.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Bridges is disturbed by Wu's Mad Scientist tendencies. As it turns out, said Mad Scientist tendencies were in part deliberately done to Troll Bridges and the military.
  • Evil Counterpart: As head of InGen, he's one to Claire. While she recognizes her role as caretaker of Isla Sorna, sincerely makes amends for her mistreatment of Elise, and treats the dinosaurs ethically, Bridges is abusive to any dinosaur that isn't a Spinosaurus and Romano admits that he is resistant to changing his approach towards them.
  • Evil Is Petty: Bridges indulges in petty acts of cruelty, such as tripping up children to upset Elise and feeding juvenile T. rexes, taken from their parents, to his pet Spinosaurus. The latter is done partly to mock Claire's relationship with Rexy.
  • Evil Smells Bad: All of the dinosaurs, Elise included, think Bridges smells like a rotting corpse. Sobek refers to him as "Death", both because of the smell and because of the countless dinosaurs he had killed.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He can be quite charming when he wants to be, although this facade doesn't fool anyone in the park, especially Elise. However, this act was good enough to dupe Hart into thinking he could trust Bridges to help his daughter.
  • Hate Sink: Bridges is by far the most hateable and most unpleasant character in a generally idealistic story -even Carnifex and the more unfriendly dinosaurs are Obliviously Evil at worst and have no human concept of right and wrong. While he has sympathetic moments and people he does care about, he's viciously cruel to Isla Sorna's dinosaurs, has no thought for how his actions affect others, and is often unpleasant to his employees.
  • Hearing Voices: As part of his mental illness, he imagines Iudex Carnifex talking to him, sees and hears a shadow as a creature named Mr. Growls, alludes to demons in his head, and seems to be severely schizophrenic.
  • In-Series Nickname: To the dinosaurs he's The Dead One.
  • Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: A villainous example. To get Wu to give up his "classified" information on Indominus rex, Bridges first knocks him out, cuts off one of Wu's fingers with a cigar guillotine, and threatens to feed both of them to Carnifex if Wu doesn't give up the information.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: After his more sympathetic qualities are introduced, Bridges feels no remorse whatsoever for what happened to Blake and considers killing Jack to cover his tracks. He also sent presents to Clementine, Hart's daughter, and by all accounts seemed to care for her, only to reject a kidney match for her and let her die. While Bridges' thoughts indicate that he genuinely cared about her and wanted her to live, he still took a fatal risk with her life and his actions caused her death.
  • Karmic Death: Dies offscreen, lost forever in Isla Sorna's cave systems. We know this because Skulls has confirmed he would not play any part in the story any longer.
  • Kick the Dog: Some of his actions:
    • Tripping a small child to get a reaction out of Elise. Or just because, it's a bit unclear.
    • On his first day to Isla Sorna, a Compy scuffed his shoes. He kicked it to death, had it stuffed, and put it in his office.
    • He feeds juvenile Tyrannosaurus rexes to his pet Spinosaurus out of spite for Claire and her relationship with Rexy. And because one tried to eat his mother.
    • He turned down an organ match that could have saved Hart's sick daughter, which enrages Hart when he finds that out. While Bridges says that he did sincerely care about Clementine and thought she would live until he found the next match, it's unknown why he turned the first match down.
  • Knight of Cerebus: The story takes a darker turn once he shows up, and he is the first antagonist to be truly evil - both Debra and Blake have valid reasons for being angry at Elise and are not bad people, while Bridges is a much darker character.
  • Lack of Empathy: When Blake is killed, Bridges feels no remorse whatsoever and doesn't understand why he should. He never blames himself for what happened to Hart's daughter, and didn't bother to explain any reason for his actions to Hart beforehand. He can do terrible things to people and animals without any guilt or even thinking about it.
  • Meaningful Name: Daemon = demon. He was given this name by his highly religious mother, because he was born screaming "like a demon".
  • Morality Pet: Genuinely cares for and wants the best for Sobek. On the other hand, he sees Carnifex as little more than an attack dog. He's also consistently kind to Lucia Dodgson, and cares enough about Romano that he's willing to attempt to draw away a rogue I. rex to protect him.
    • Lonicera used to be this before she became Tacet.
  • Never My Fault: Shows shades of this after Blake is killed in the old Visitors' Center. He also downplays his role in the near-extinction of Isla Sorna's T. rexes when Romano presses him about it, and, while conflicted about it at the time, doesn't show regret for turning down a match for Hart's daughter, even when she dies and a grieving Hart goes on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge. In general, Bridges doesn't think about the consequences of his actions for others besides himself, let alone take responsibility for them.
  • Obviously Evil: When Bridges first appears, between his interest in potential military applications for Elise, his misogyny, and his subtle insults towards Masrani, it's pretty clear that he's a bad guy.
  • Oh, Crap!: He reacts this way when he realizes that Clem is dead and Hart is out for revenge.
  • Pet the Dog: He's the one who summons Limper to the battle with Tacet and Carnifex with a flare, turning the tide.
    • He also has minor ones throughout his appearances, often intermixed with other kick the dog moments. Essentially, whatever action will suit his goals best at the time he'll take whether it be cruelty or kindness.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Bridges shows a misogynistic streak, leering over Claire and, much like Hoskins, refers to the dinosaurs as male. He's also homophobic, despite implied feelings for Romano.
  • Precision F-Strike: Drops an F-bomb when he urges Romano to run away while he confronts Tacet.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Bridges has a species-wide grudge against T. rexes, to the point where he practically wiped out the wild population on Isla Sorna and regularly feeds juveniles to Carnifex, long after Sobek killed the individual T. rex who threatened his mother. Ironically, Sobek himself doesn't share this grudge, something Romano points out.
  • The Sociopath: He's pretty clearly this. That said he's a more realistic depiction as outwardly he's nearly indistinguishable from a normal person besides a vague "wrongness" some people pick up off him and he runs mostly on logic making him far more coldly pragmatic then violently insane like most version of this trope.
  • Worthy Opponent: Recognizes Elise as such in their "game".
  • Would Hurt a Child: Downplayed - Bridges has no problem tripping a child to provoke Elise. He's also fine with feeding juvenile, inexperienced T. rexes to Carnifex to mock Claire and Rexy. He also let the daughter of one of his lawyers die, while said lawyer trusted him to help. Even if he didn't mean for her to die, he knowingly made a gamble with her life. Judging from what Sobek told Elise, he isn't above killing baby dinosaurs. And then there's the abuses he heaped on Tacet, who's only a day older than Elise, such as cutting out her vocal cords to keep her quiet.
  • You Have Failed Me: In his narration, Bridges mentions that he would have liked to have personally dealt with Hoskins for messing up with the militarized Velociraptors, but Delta beat him to it.

     Debra

A Petting Zoo caretaker who antagonizes Elise.

Tropes that apply to Debra

  • Anti-Villain: In name only. Debra isn't really a bad person at all, especially since she has a fair reason to dislike Elise and she's shown to be kind to children and the dinosaurs under her care.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Debra insults Elise, a fully sapient fifty-foot-long carnivorous dinosaur, calling her a monster and telling her that she should have been put down.
  • Friend to All Children: Debra gets along very well with children, both humans and dinosaurs.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Debra isn't a bad person, and according to Rick, her husband, she's usually quite nice. She's very angry at Elise because she killed her apatosaurs, who she named and raised from hatchlings, and caused a great deal of death and destruction before her Heel–Face Turn.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While Debra is undoubtedly a jerk to Elise, she raises some valid points about the destruction she caused and the deaths of her apatosaurs, who Elise tortured to death, make Debra's dislike of her understandable.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Debra, Owen, and Elise eventually make amends.

     Commander Blake

Tropes that apply to Blake

  • The Alcoholic: It stems from the fact that his most of his team (including Commander Hamada, whom he deeply respected and admired) was killed by Elise during her rampage while he was faking sick.
  • Anti-Villain: In name only. Like Debra, Blake isn't a bad person at all, although his life is pretty screwed up - between Elise's killing of Hamada and most of his squad, as well as Survivor's Guilt, he has valid reasons to dislike and be reluctant to forgive her.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Blake is willing to actively insult a fifty-foot carnivorous dinosaur who is fully sapient and can understand everything he says.
  • Forgiveness: His character arc involves coming to grips with the fact that Elise, the dinosaur who killed his team and from his perspective ruined his life, is more complicated than the monster he sees her as. He fully forgives Elise as he dies.
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: Just when it seems like he's getting his life back on track, he's gunned down by Jack who was trying to stop him from hurting Bridges.
  • He Knows Too Much: He has the bad luck to catch Bridges and Jack in the old Visitors' Center.
  • Internal Reveal No one else realizes he's dead yet thanks to him already being scheduled for a sabbatical before his death and Bridges sending a text from his phone leading a false trail. Now with Bridges and Jack both out of the picture and no other evidence to indicate that he's missing there's no telling when or if the other characters will discover his absence
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Blake has a very valid reason to dislike Elise and be reluctant to forgive her.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Blake isn't evil in any way, just screwed up and for understandable reasons.
  • Killed Off for Real: Murdered by Jack just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
  • My Greatest Failure: Blake faked sick while Commander Hamada and his squad were killed by Elise during her rampage, and he's never forgiven himself for that.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: The first casualty on the good guys' side - he dies to establish Bridges's ruthlessness and status as a serious threat further.
  • Survivor's Guilt: Blake suffers from this because he was out faking sick when his team was killed by Elise.

     Dr. Henry Wu

Tropes that apply to Wu

  • Abusive Parents: Wu, as the creator of Elise and her sister, put very little concern into their care.
  • Adaptational Heroism: While Wu is still a jerk who initially wasn't concerned for the well-being of Elise and her sister, nearly all of the "villainous" acts he does are middle fingers aimed directly at those who didn't care about Hammond's ideals, with whom he shares. The reason he did not disclose information on Indominus rex to anybody except Elise herself was because of his loyalty to Hammond and also because he did not want more dinosaur Living Weapons to be produced. He was going to refuse creating an Indominus in the first place for much of the same reasons, until Masrani came along to make him realize how far Jurassic World had fallen from education and wonder to money, blockbuster, and commercialisation. He decided to design the Indominus as an unstoppable killing machine as a wake-up call to the respect dinosaurs deserved, and as a "fuck you" to InGen and Masrani's moneymaking machine.
  • Apocalyptic Log: Preparing one for Elise, to explain the details of her creation and what makes up her genetic composition to her.
  • The Atoner: Wu wants to make up to Elise for neglecting her and her sister and for engineering her to be a monster. He gives her the money that Hammond left him and a picture of Small One, along with four Indominus rex embryos.
  • Batman Gambit: his entire ploy to tell Elise about Tacet is this. Disguising Tacet's files as Elise's with just enough of the names switched so that Bridge's wouldn't catch it, but someone else hopefully would, sending several empty fake boxes out at the same time as the box containing his video log and gifts to Elise, which he sent under Rosie Grady's name in order to hide his trail, and planning his own suicide in a way to draw unavoidable attention onto the operations at Isla Sorna so that all of Bridges schemes and secrets would be out for the world to see
  • Driven to Suicide: Wu, realizing how shallow his work has become, plans suicide after Bridges forces him to hand over the information on Indominus rex.
  • Fatherly Scientist: Wu comes to feel this way toward Elise and grows to like and care for her, in part because she is his first creation who acknowledged him and had questions to ask.
  • Fingore: Courtesy of Bridges, as part of threatening him to get the Indominus information.
  • Good All Along: Wu was always loyal to John Hammond and his ideals concerning dinosaurs and Jurassic Park, and all of his actions were because of this loyalty.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Again, many of his seemingly villainous actions were done out of loyalty to Hammond.
  • Mad Scientist: Even Bridges is disturbed by these tendencies in him. It's ultimately revealed this is little more than him expressing his loyalty to Hammond and his ideals in a very passive-aggressive way. In particular, when Wu gave Indominus rex DNA from three of the most dangerous and uncontrollable individual dinosaurs in Jurassic Park's history, he knew exactly what he was doing.
  • Taking You with Me: Wu is planning to destroy Bridges when he dies. He sets the labs on fire with a gas leak while he's still in the building.
  • Troll: He deliberately chose DNA samples from the most uncontrollable dinosaurs he could think of to create Elise - Rexy, Sobek, and the Big One - to mess with Bridges and the military.
  • Undying Loyalty: Everything Wu did was because of his sheer loyalty to John Hammond and his ideals.
  • Walking Spoiler: Do you see all these white spaces? What's more impressive is that he succeeded in becoming a walking spoiler thanks to one chapter.

     Arthur Hart

A lawyer who represents Bridges and InGen in the custody case for Elise.

Tropes that apply to Hart

  • Amoral Attorney: Hart is a lawyer working for Daemon Bridges. Averted in that Hart isn't really all that evil - he did what he did because Bridges offered to pay his daughter's medical bills, which he was too poor to afford, and the beatdown on Jack was very deserved.
  • Anti-Villain: Woobie. Hart's Roaring Rampage of Revenge has serious consequences and threatens people who didn't directly hurt him, but he has a very justified reason to be upset and Bridges had it coming.
  • Animals Hate Him: Less so than Bridges, but Elise can tell that Hart is bad news and the raptors show open contempt for him.
  • Bald of Evil: Hart's bald and working for the bad guys. Averted when he turns out to not really be evil.
  • Bullying a Dragon: He's very lucky to get away with a broken nose after calling Blue a "stupid animal."
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Pudgy and seemingly timid, Hart turns out not to be a man you want to get on the bad side of. Jack finds this out, and Bridges, too.
  • Deal with the Devil: Hart, a deeply religious man, invokes this in his conversation with Wu, with Daemon as the devil.
  • Despair Event Horizon: He crosses it after Clem dies, and this despair is part of the fuel for his Roaring Rampage of Revenge.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After Bridges betrays his trust by causing Clementine's death, Hart turns on him in spectacular fashion.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Hart is put off by Bridges' feeding live T. rexes to Carnifex, although he doesn't dare say so.
  • Healthcare Motivation: Hart helped Bridges in exchange for Bridges paying for his injured daughter's medical bills.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Sort of - he definitely isn't on Bridges' side anymore, and he never really had any grudge against Claire or Jurassic World.
  • Hidden Depths: Hart isn't really an evil man - he genuinely wants to save Wu and had a wife and child he loved very much who died due to a car accident. Even his vengeful actions are motivated by anger, desperation, and grief.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Hart brings up the issue that Elise got off very easily for causing horrific property damage and killing multiple people by being told that it was wrong and then becoming famous, rather than facing any real punishment for her crimes like a human would in her place regardless of any Freudian Excuse.
  • Just Desserts: At least Momma Concavenator is proud.
  • Killed Off for Real: Killed and eaten by a Concavenator and her hatchling. It could have been even worse - Bridges wanted him given to the Troodon.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: Bridges' rejection of an organ match for Clementine is enough for Hart to beat the life out of Jack (who knew about it) and turn on Bridges.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Delivers a fatal one to Jack after he finds an email revealing that Bridges rejected a match for Clementine, and the beatdown is part of his revenge.
  • Odd Friendship: He and Wu bond over their mutual hatred of Bridges before they part ways.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Hart's daughter dies because of the choice he made to trust someone whose actions directly caused her death.
  • Papa Wolf: Hart did what he did to protect his daughter, and his revenge is motivated by what he sees as a betrayal from Bridges that caused her death.
  • Pet the Dog: Hart is genuinely kind to Wu and wants to get him off Isla Sorna alive. Wu also entrusts him with photos to send to Elise, which Hart seems intent on following through with, and he spares Wu from the darker parts of his revenge against Bridges.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: What he turns out to be - Hart doesn't really like working for Bridges and has no grudge against Claire, but had no choice if he wanted his daughter to have a fresh kidney. When she dies due to his boss's actions, he has no reason to help Bridges anymore.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: After Clementine dies, he beats Jack almost to death, steals a card key, and unleashes several dinosaurs, including two T. rexes and three Troodon, with full intention of killing Bridges and destroying or at least severely damaging his operations on Isla Sorna.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: To the novel version of Donald Gennaro, who, unlike his film counterpart, was a Cowardly Lion and also a Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass. Novel Gennaro also had a family that he cared very much for, and whom novel Hammond may have subtly threatened to put in danger (something that his Suspiciously Similar Substitute Bridges not only actually does, but outright causes the death of.)
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: In his confrontation with Owen and Claire, Hart argues that Elise is only an animal and InGen's property.

    Dr. Antonio Romano

Bridges' Chief Veterinarian on Isla Sorna.

Tropes that apply to Dr. Romano

  • Anti-Villain: In name only. Romano's a genuinely good and empathetic man who works for bad people.
  • The Conscience: The closest thing Bridges has to one - he's the only one of his underlings willing to truly call Bridges out for some of his crueler actions.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: When Romano has to euthanize Leonardo, the male in Bridges' T. rex couple, he's clearly heartbroken and hates having to do it. He's later deeply upset when he loses a baby T. rex, and he helped Fuego escape with his pack when the raptors were going to be put down.
  • Fluffy Tamer: Even though he works for the villains, Romano is shown to care for the animals under his watch as much as his counterparts on Isla Nublar, including the T. rexes, who Bridges considers little more than breeding stock.
  • Groin Attack: Romano was the one who neutered Sobek, and Sobek remembers and bears a grudge for the experience.
  • Heel–Face Turn: While he was never really a bad guy, Romano eventually quits working for Bridges and joins the Jurassic World team instead.
  • Honest Advisor: The only one on Isla Sorna who's not afraid to tell Bridges what he doesn't want to hear.
  • Morality Pet: The closest thing Bridges has to a moral compass. Bridges cares enough about him to try and distract Tacet so that Romano can escape.
  • No Hero to His Valet: A villainous example - Romano knows Bridges well enough that his threats don't scare him, and is relatively fearless around him. He even calls Bridges out for almost wiping out Isla Sorna's T. rex population.
  • Number Two: Romano is one of Bridges' most trusted and loyal employees.
  • Oh, Crap!: He has a serious one when he realizes that Bridges had another I. rex on Isla Sorna, one that he didn't tell Romano about and that's both horrifically abused and extremely angry.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Romano is nowhere near as callous and prone to petty villainy as Bridges is. Working for Bridges is really the only thing that makes him a bad guy. He eventually has enough and wants to quit, hoping that Bridges can get the help he needs.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Romano intends to quit his job and work for Claire on Jurassic World.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Romano is very creative with his swearing, and it is generally his first reaction to a problem.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: Romano likes Bridges, but recognizes that the man has serious flaws and needs mental help.
  • Token Good Teammate: Unlike Bridges or Jack, Romano is a decent human being. The main reason he stayed with Bridges was to improve conditions for the animals and try to change Bridges' mind about how to treat them, which didn't work out.

     Jack

The assistant of Daemon Bridges.

Tropes that apply to Jack

     Lucia Dodgson

The widow of Robert Dodgson and the current head of BioSyn.

  • Black Widow: Bridges considers this possibility, but dismisses it, thinking that Robert looked like he died from illness rather than a dinosaur attack.
  • The Medic: Lucia is a former nurse. According to her, this is how she met Robert.
  • Morality Pet: Bridges seems to sincerely care about her and respect her on a personal and business level, and she's one of the few people he's regularly kind to.
  • You Are in Command Now: Lucia took over BioSyn after Robert died.

     Dr. Roth

Elise's human therapist that she sees to work through her issues.

Tropes that apply to Dr. Roth

  • Epiphany Therapy: Averted. Seeing Dr. Roth helps, but isn't enough to get Elise through her problems by itself.
  • Punch-Clock Hero: Elise is afraid that Dr. Roth only does her job for "dirty paper" and doesn't really care about her. Owen reassures her that Dr. Roth does care.
  • The Shrink: A well-meaning but flawed example. While Dr. Roth has good intentions and tries to help, both she and Elise are new to their particular situation (Elise is new to therapy while Dr. Roth hasn't dealt with a non-human patient) and Elise has some trust issues around her.

     Jesús

Tropes that apply to Jesús.

  • Flat Character: He's a friendly, amicable guy and a photographer. That's about it. It says a lot that some of the less-intelligent dinosaurs show more character than him.
  • One-Scene Wonder: He only appears in two chapters out of a total 70+, and isn't seen or mentioned in-between or afterwards In-Universe.
