Go To

White-Clad

A group of mysterious, white hooded cultists who work behind the scenes and are somehow involved with the Human Combustion Pandemic. After being discovered, they are declared enemies of the Tokyo Empire and clash with the Fire Force throughout the series. They follow something called The Evangelist and seek to achieve its goals.

    General
  • Action Duo: Many of them are introduced in pairs and often act in groups of two. The Pillars are each assigned a Protector specifically chosen to complement their abilities.
  • Church Militant: Their attacks on Asakusa are most motivated by their disgust that the town will not worship the Sun God.
  • Divide and Conquer: When combating the Fire Force, they often divide them and attempt to kill them when they are alone or stuck with a relatively defenceless person to protect.
  • Elite Mooks: Most members with names count. There are a few dozen nameless, faceless goons who act as support but there is no risk they will ever be dangerous.
  • Equal-Opportunity Evil: They are a diverse bunch, even if they are all dogmatically following the same religion and share twisted morality. They do express it differently though.
  • Evil Versus Evil: They will fight against people who are just as terrible as they are if they get their way.
  • Holy Hitman: Many of the members can and will act as assassins when needed. Assault openly describes himself as an assassin.
  • Killed to Uphold the Masquerade: Anyone who gets too close to the truth of their goals will be eliminated by the organization's assassins. That includes captured agents.
  • Light Is Not Good: They all wear white armour and cloaks, but they are in no way good people.
  • Misanthrope Supreme: The group's goal is to aid the Evangelist in causing the destruction of Earth, fully expecting and welcoming that they will also be killed. They take every opportunity to denounce the worth of outsiders and happily enact whatever cruelties they can on the populace in the process.
  • No Name Given: "White-Clad" isn't the actual name of the group. It's just a term used by its enemies to describe them based on their white uniforms. It is never used by members. It is unknown what the cult's true name is or if they even have one of their own.
  • Religion of Evil: They plan on setting the world on fire to create a second star in the solar system. Doubles as Scary Amoral Religion because they see all mortality and opposition as worthless in the face of a force like the Evangelist.
  • They Call Him "Sword": The majority of them don't use traditional names. Instead, they are named after their ability or their function. It's possible many of them don't have real names and some of their agents are just using aliases when interacting with wider society. Only the upper ranks and hidden agents seem to use actual names.
  • The Virus: The White-Clad use Adolla Bugs to infect civilians and turn them into Infernals for their attacks. Usually with the hopes of creating at least one Demon Infernal in the process. Agents will sometimes willingly eat one themselves if sufficiently pressed.
  • We Have Reserves: Lower agents are sacrificed without a second thought as long as it fulfills an objective.

Leadership

    The Evangelist

The Evangelist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0176_013.png
The leader of all White Clad groups, mastermind to their wicked deeds and The Big Bad of the entire manga. The Evangelist is a mysterious character whose plans seem to span hundreds of years and the entire globe.
  • The Ageless: The Evangelist hasn't aged in 250 years and appears to be much older than that.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: She is the metaphysical embodiment of all the accumulated despair produced by all life in existence, and seeks to destroy everything as a result. The form she assumes isn't her true one, which she reveals at the very end as a swirling vortex of hate and wrath with three unsightly, hideous eyes calling back to Asura from Soul Eater. Makes sense, as Shinra is forced to create the world of Soul Eater thanks to her.
  • As Long as There Is Evil: Downplayed. She is a truly ancient embodiment of despair produced by sentient life even older than humanity, but because she is simply a living mass of despair rather than any form of expression by living things, it means should she be somehow defeated and erased from existence she would not come back. A similar entity might be produced by humanity's despair, but it won't be her.
  • Big Bad: The origin of most the problems in the series and likely holds the answers to every mystery.
  • Blinded by the Light: Looking upon the Evangelist blinds people as if they are staring into the sun, and their eyes simply burn away. Due to this, many of her servants wear blindfolds. Only the Pillars seem immune to this effect.
  • Cessation of Existence: Her ultimate fate, being easily and pathetically dispelled with a single kick from Shinra after he outsmarts her by creating a new world that actively dampens her despair-driven powers and frees Haumea from her clutches. In her place as God, he creates Death.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Prequel in this case, and to Asura from Soul Eater. The Evangelist is worshipped as the supreme deity of all existence while being a God of Evil who roams the universe to find worlds filled with sentient life, then drowns them in despair by destroying it. It is also heavily implied the Evangelist was produced by the despair of mortal lifeforms of a different planet older than humanity. After Shinra creates Death to take her place so he can absorb some of the despair instead of spread it, Death himself — far from a mortal being — would later create Asura from his fear and be forced to seal him. Asura is not worshipped as a god, but he poses just as much of a threat by instead wishing to turn all of mankind insane. Plus, their ultimate fates are different: as the Evangelist is simply a living mass of despair, Shinra defeats her by rewriting the rules of what constitutes despair and destroys the Evangelist forever; while Asura is allowed to endure because he is an expression of the world's fear toward "madness" and there is no way to actively change it since it's an essential part of human nature, so the best they can do is seal him again and pray he doesn't escape.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Whatever she is, she can be appearing in any horrible situation with a quiet smile.
  • Divinely Appearing Demons: Constantly bathed in white light and angelic robes. She might also be from hell.
  • Eldritch Abomination: An otherworldly being of supreme power we never get a proper look at who wants nothing but suffering for mankind. The closest we see of what she really looks like is a mass of darkness with three inhuman, alien eyes. Likely because it's the closest humans can ever get to comprehending what she is. Her form being a Call-Back to the Kishin Asura of Soul Eater also foreshadows her true nature; she is an ancient embodiment of despair from all life in the universe, who created the Sun from her previous successful attempt of destroying a planet filled with life to create more despair.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Mari Kusakabe, her Doppelgänger who delivered a Messiah and guardian angel to stop her through virgin births—Shinra and Sho. As a Doppelgänger, Mari is everything people believe the Evangelist is while the Evangelist herself is actually an Anthropomorphic Personification of despair and misery.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Both majestic and horrifying. Her eyes contain starlight and swirling galaxies. This also gives the impression that she is staring at people with empty eye sockets.
  • God Is Evil: She is the deity that the followers of the Church of the Holy Sol unknowingly pray to. She had her minions create the religion as part of her plans to mold society to serve her purposes. It's theorized that she repeated this trick many times throughout all of human history to mold human thought into empowering her. Above all else, she seems to go out of her way to spread misery and despair on as grand a scale as possible.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: The Evangelist is directly or indirectly responsible for most of the evils in the Fire Force universe. And most Arc Villain characters work for her. It is implied she may be one for the Soul Eater verse as well. Since she is the manifestation of the collective deepest feelings of life, despair in one single form, she may have lingered on to reincarnate as Asura, the collective mass of Death's own fears which gained power on its own, and other Kishins.
  • The Heartless: Haumea claims that she is the manifestation of the collective deepest feelings of humankind, the despair of all humanity in one single form. The reveal that she created the Sun itself from destroying another planet suggests she is actually born from a previous generation of life which she destroyed, and now plans to do the same toward mankind.
  • Hellfire: Her realm in Adolla is filled with bones and constant black flames that can burn even heat-resistant pyrokinetics. A chunk of material taken from Adolla to the physical world perpetually burns with black fire years later despite being held in a container that deprives it of fuel and oxygen.
  • Historical Rap Sheet: It is spectated that the Evangelist has been creating demons and inspiring religions across the globe for all of human history. She is directly responsible for the Great Cataclysm that nearly destroyed the world in the series' past. The Sun itself only exists because she successfully enacted her current goal on an unknown planet long before humanity existed.
  • Humanoid Abomination: She is human shaped, but that's about it. She's a huge entity that towers over the rest of the cast, has been around of centuries at least, and grants powers that casually break the laws of physics.
  • In the Hood: The Evangelist's hood hides everything except her mouth.
  • Ironic Name: The word "evangelist" comes from roots that mean "good" and "messenger"—someone who brings good news. This supposed bringer of good news is in fact despair incarnate.
  • It Amused Me: The Woman In Black says that the Evangelist brought her to Earth and empowered her on a whim.
  • Lack of Empathy: She seems to see sentient life as a tool or toys. On top of her world-threatening schemes, she has been shown to react to somebody begging at her feet for salvation with nothing more than a look of slight amusement before wordlessly transforming them into an eternally suffering Demon Infernal and moving on.
  • Large and in Charge: The Evangelist towers over the human characters.
  • Light Is Not Good: Wears white angelic robes, is described by the characters that have seen her as divine, is heavily associated with light but also wants to burn the planet.
  • Near-Villain Victory: Succeeds in bringing about the second Great Cataclysm, wiping out all life in existence save those still trapped in Adolla and leaving nothing but an empty void of endless despair. Then Shinra turns the tables by becoming Shinra-Banshoman and recreating everything, reviving the deceased, and restoring hope to the world by lessening the severity of Death. She doesn't end up too happy about that.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Her goal, at least how the knights interpret it, is to turn the planet into a star by setting it on fire. And she has successfully done this to at least one other planet in the past, which became the Sun.
  • One-Winged Angel: Attempts to do this when Shinra and Charon convince Haumea to do a Heel–Face Turn. She doesn't get very far before Shinra destroys her permanently.
  • Outside-Context Villain: The Fire Force is designed to research a disease, protect people and fight the occasional criminal. An extra dimensional being with plans for the planet that has shown up out of nowhere was not expected.
  • Power Floats: She is always seen hovering in the air during Adolla Link based visions.
  • The Quiet One: The Evangelist has barely spoken since her introduction. Edges on The Voiceless with it weren't for her serif talk to Haumea.
  • Reality Warper: The full extent of her abilities is unknown, but she can casually ignore any known scientific laws and impact the universe, if necessary. With her powers, even something as ridiculous as turning a small terrestrial planet into a fully functioning star is possible.
  • Samus Is a Girl: After about 100 chapters with no defined gender, we learn the Evangelist is female.
  • Time Abyss: She is at least thousands of years old. It is later revealed she created the Sun itself. That places her real age in the billions at minimum.
  • Touched by Vorlons: She can impart someone with an Adolla Burst her "Grace." This grants them a unique ability that far exceeds anything a normal pyrokinetic could ever hope to achieve. She has also granted random people a smaller scale version of her own powers on a whim, such as the Woman in Black.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Has a non-verbal one once Hamura chooses to let go of humanity's collective longing for death, where it suddenly grows giant and opens its veil to reveal a pitch black void with only a familiar set of eyes looking out. Shinra promptly destroys them with a single kick before they can do anything.

Recruited Pillars

    Pillars in General
Eight pyrokinetic individuals who possesses an Adolla Burst, and are destined to instigate the Great Calamity to turn the world into a second sun. They are also protected by a Guardian from various organizations.
  • Apocalypse Maiden: They are eight individuals necessary for the Evangelist to bring about the end of the world.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: There need to be 8 Pillars for the Evangelist's plot to work. Meaning that the White Clad cannot allow any of them to die under any circumstances. Even if they oppose the White-Clad, the organization will protect their lives at any cost until the Cataclysm can begin.
  • Embodiment of Vice: According to Joker each represent an ingredient for Despair in the Evangelist's mind. Not quite the Seven Deadly Sins as they aren't limited to human emotions or desires but very similar.
    • Amaterasu embodies Madness, Haumea is Passivity, Sho is Apathy, Shinra and Inca are Rage and Destruction respectively, Nataku is Fear, Sumire is Disgust and Iris represents the end product; Despair itself.
  • Touched by Vorlons: Through their Adolla Bursts, each Pillar is granted at least one unique ability far more powerful than anything a normal pyrokinetic could hope to achieve. Most are unable to use them unless directly empowered by the Evangelist or a being a similar ability, significantly hindering the potential of the Pillars opposing the White Clad.

    Second Pillar - Haumea

Haumea

Voiced by: Rie Kugimiya (Japanese), Caitlin Glass (English), Montserrat Aguilar (Latin American Spanish)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/haumeas_appearance.png
Another follower of the Evangelist and user of the Adolla Burst. Haumea is able to control electrical signals and people. As such she's as dangerous as she is childish and playfully cruel. Since her introduction, she's become a major villain in the series and involving herself in many conflicts with the intent of carrying out her master's will.
  • A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Read: The source of her madness and hatred of humanity. She was touched by the power of the Evangelist at a young age and given the ability to read the minds of others. Unfortunately this tunes her mind into the constant horrors of the darkside of the collective unconscious of all mankind. As such she's constantly tormented by dark thoughts, which drove her to inflict pain to cope with constant mental pain.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Inverted. She talks down to Shō, belittles his strength and dismisses his concerns. They might not be related by blood, but they were raised by the same 'parent', so this holds. She's also the same age as Shinra.
  • The Assimilator: Once she channels the Evangelist and "saves" Inca and Sumire, she not only reveals that their souls are in her, but that she can also use their powers, promptly using Inca's to prevent attacks and Sumire's to attack Shinra and Sho.
  • Ax-Crazy: She enjoys inflicting pain and gives Joker a run for his money when it comes to joyfully attitude.
  • Bad Boss: She's abusive and dismissive towards her subordinates, caring nothing for their lives and happily tormenting them for her amusement. It sometimes seems that the only reason she hasn't gotten Charon killed is his sheer durability.
  • Brains and Brawn: Haumea directs field operations while Charon handles most of the fighting. Although she can handle herself just fine.
  • Co-Dragons: Shares this position for the Evangelist along with Yona (probably the oldest subordinate of the Evangelist and the one who shaped the history of the Tokyo Empire) and Sumire (implied to have performed a similar role to Haumea's one during the Great Cataclysm). Among them, Haumea is the most active one, commanding the members of the White Clad and being seen communicating with the Evangelist in some instances, while the other two prefer to work in the shadows.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Prequel in this case, and to Crona. Both are Tragic Villains subjected to horrible abuse—Haumea by a God of Evil and humanity's despair at large, Crona mostly by their mother Medusa. They end up becoming receptacles for the true Big Bad of their respective series too—Haumea assimilates the Evangelist willingly as it intends to use her as its host, while Crona does this to Asura unwillingly. Haumea undergoes a Heel–Face Turn right at the very last second, while Crona was subject to a Heel–Face Revolving Door thanks to their trauma and extenuating circumstances outside of their control. And while Shinra manages to save Haumea by making her willingly part with the Evangelist and choose life, allowing him to destroy her, Asura overtakes Crona and eventually forces them to pull a Heroic Sacrifice when they fully accept their guilt for the evil things they did. They become a Barrier Maiden sealing Asura permanently, with it being left open-ended whether they'll see Maka again or not. Haumea fortunately has an unambiguously happy ending.
  • Cool Crown: Wears one like a visor that hides her eyes.
  • Cosmic Keystone: She has the Adolla Burst. Unlike most other users, she is perfectly willing to use it to ruin the world.
  • Creepy Child: She's been involved with The Evangelist since she was five. She was just as sadistic and just as mature then as she is now.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: She strips Arrow, squeezes her body while shocking her, which gives off an S&M vibe. Her forcing Arrow to watch her put lipstick on Sho and dress him up as a doll for a 'puppet show' cuts away before seeing exactly what she intends to do.
  • Establishing Character Moment: She playfully banters with Sho while his brother is bleeding to death at his feet and twists the knife by pushing the sword deeper into Shinra's chest. All the while acting half her age.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Charon's unconditional love for his charge is obvious but Haumea actually starts screaming and crying out when she realises he's dying. Shinra is ultimtely able to exploit this to convince her to let go of despair by having a newly reborn Charon talk to her.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Haumea is uncaring, destructive and doesn't takes things seriously most of times, even putting her allies at risk just for her own amusement, but even she knows to be well-behaved and serious in presence of the Evangelist. She's also professional and calm when she tries to convince Burns to join her cause.
  • The Fatalist: Everything is destined for death, and in agreement with the Evangelist recognizes that humanity has a subconscious longing for death. She also believes that the end of the world is the ultimate solution for life's problems, as with everyone dead the cycle of suffering can finally end. She even welcomes Shinra attempting to kill her, since by resorting to that he also believes that the world's problems can be solved with (a) death.
  • Final Boss: By wiping out all life outside of Adolla and killing Inca and Sumire, she cements herself as the series' final direct antagonist. While the Evangelist is pulling the strings, Haumea is very much aware of what she's doing and is the one actively trying to break Shinra's spirit. What's more, she and the Evangelist set things up so that if Shinra so much as intends to attack her, which would be admitting that death is the only salvation, it'll trigger the second Great Cataclysm. Which it does. After a stern talking to from Arthur, Shinra then attempts to turn her good instead.
  • Foil: She can be seen as one to Sho. He was calm and serious despite being innocent at one point. Haumea is cruel and consistently upbeat with flashbacks implying she's alway been a terror. In the last stretch of the story, this becomes further invoked as Sho remembers who he is and reverts back to being a sweet kid, while it's revealed Haumea's insanity is the result of never-ending torture from receiving the hatred of all mankind through Talking Head. She then becomes a tragic and stoic figure from then on with none of her previous Evil Is Hammy traits.
  • Giggling Villain: Has a tendency to giggle while talking, making her look eerily childish.
  • The Heavy: She becomes the main source of problems for the main characters in regards to the Knights, since Sho is out of commission by the time she is introduced and the Evangelist doesn't fight directly, so she leads many of the attacks. By the climax, she becomes the Evangelist's primary instrument to act through as she prepares to wipe out the world.
  • Hidden Buxom: Her outfit is quite baggy, but leaves her shoulders, back and armpits exposed. Despite the form-hiding outfit, her breasts are so large that from the side or back they can still be seen.
  • I Have You Now, My Pretty: The first time we see Shō in her clutches, he has been dress up in like a china doll and Haumea is delicately taking a brush to his lips. She also comments that she's always wanted a puppet like this while angling his head. Given how Arrow is Forced to Watch her 'puppet show', the undertone of the whole thing is extremely creepy.
  • Large Ham: Very, very loud and expressive. Contrasts with Shō's stoicism.
  • Lack of Empathy: Seemingly cares about nothing and no one, seeking to end all life no matter the cost to save herself. Subverted in that she does actually care about Charon even through the constant deluge of humanity's despair pumped into her head. This is instrumental in getting her to abandon the Evangelist and sparing her life.
  • Lightning Can Do Anything: Haumea's abilities involve using electrical currents to control people (including hormone manipulation) and communicate over long distances.
  • Logical Weakness: If something interferes with her electrical current, it will counter her abilities and she'll have to protect herself without her powers.
  • Madden Into Misanthropy: Her uncontrollable power to read minds drove her insane and she came to serve the Evangelist out of a desperate bid to end mankind and stop the constant suffering their dark thoughts inflicted upon her mind.
  • Magnetism Manipulation: She uses this to break her fall while escaping capture and stick to walls.
  • Maniac Tongue: Haumea sticks her tounge out quite a lot, and she's a lunatic.
  • Mood-Swinger: She seems stoic at first and the shifts into childish glee in the span of seconds. While she is typically manic, she still slides into thoughtful and restrained musings depending on her situation.
  • More than Mind Control: Haumea can just put people in a trance and make them do what she wants until they snap out of it. She can also use her ability with some more care to control their hormonal balance. So she can lower inhibitions, increase aggression, whatever it takes to push people into doing what she wants of them.
    • She is also able to read minds. Which allow her to control a conversation by gauging audiences reactions. She also uses her link to the Evangelist to show pious folks the image of their God.
  • People Puppets: She can use her electric-based problems to control people.
  • Pet the Dog: Once got angry at Charon for always worrying about her. Yes, that's the nicest Haumea has gotten.
  • Power Incontinence: She has full control over most aspects of her powers, but her passive mind reading is always active.
  • Psycho Electro: She is one of the Evangelist's most loyal and unhinged followers. She happily uses he electric powers both to serve her master and indulge her sadistic whims.
  • Put Them All Out of My Misery: She welcomes the destruction of humanity because it will finally stop the flow of their thoughts into her mind.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: She's cruel, twisted, spiteful and very immature. Often exploding with anger and violence when her followers displease her. What we see of her room makes it out to a stereotypical fairy tale princess arrangement with some creepier elements. Like a headless bird in a cage and the mind controlled 13 year old in an armchair. The series very much makes her out to be a Spoiled Brat with far too much power.
  • Spanner in the Works: Haumea loves stepping into a situation to make it worse.
    • She does this so often that she almost completely derails her own plans by just playing around too much.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Her various abilities are named after English language bands, such as Radio Head, Motorhead, Talking Head.
    • During the fight in the Haijima facility, she uses her electric powers to create something akin to Spider-Man's webs to stay in the air between tall buildings (screencaps).
  • Talkative Loon: Unlike most White Hoods, Haumea is both very loud and very open about what the organisation is trying to do.
  • The Tease: Haumea has been shown to enjoy teasing even her own allies like a spiteful version of The Gadfly, but it sometimes has a sexual undertone. When she gets annoyed by Arrow's performance and the way Arrow talks back to her; Haumea tears through Arrow's cloak, grabbing her veil while groping her stomach (drawing attention to Arrow's breasts) and "massaging" her electricity. She then tosses Arrow to the floor and tells her to succeed or die. There's also her playing with Shō like a doll and forcing Arrow to watch.
  • Tragic Villain: She was originally a selfless and kind little girl, but the constant stream of despair from the collective unconscious through her Talking Head ability is never-ending and warps her into seeing despair as the only true salvation there is. She sees the Great Cataclysm as a way of achieving ultimate freedom, since if she and the world were to end forever, she'd no longer have to suffer. This is also what fuels her cruelty, as she has no other outlet for the constant negativity but to unleash it on others.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: She's platinum blonde and a major nutcase.

Third Pillar - The Commander (SPOILER)

The Commander / Sho Kusakabe

Voiced by: Maaya Sakamoto (Japanese), Justin Briner (English), Oliver Díaz (Latin American Spanish)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ff_sho_kukasabe.png

The Commander of the Ash Knights and Shinra's long lost little brother. Having been abducted by the Evangelist at an extremely young age, Shō feels no emotional connection to his brother and only views him as a pawn in his master's plan.

  • A Child Shall Lead Them: He's not even 13 and he's leading an order of knights in a crusade. He's exceptionally powerful and responsible for his or any age.
  • A Day In The Lime Light: He and Arrow spend a mini-arc researching the Kusakabe family history.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Downplayed. The anime shows him attack Licht during his high-speed duel with Shinra for even being there or part of a strategy to catch Shinra. In the original manga, Sho is completely apathetic to any bystanders and just focuses on fighting Shinra.
  • Badass Adorable: He's only twelve years old and Shinra even lampshades how adorable he looks, but he's a highly powerful fighter.
  • Brick Joke: Shinra sees two school boys who would be Sho's age argue if getting a balloon from a mascot was lame or not. 200 chapters later Sho is confused by the mascots but completely absorbed by the balloon they hand him.
  • Characterization Marches On: Present day Shō was introduced grinning like his brother. Since then, all of his appearances since then have focused on how emotionless he is.
  • Deadpan Snarker: After leaving the White Clad, Sho develops a very dry sense of humour. Using Severed Universe to surprise people and being very sarcastic about Faerie's total failure.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Seems to be The Evangelist's strongest and most loyal servants and is the mastermind behind several story arcs. He is supplanted by Haumea and is robbed of his power.
  • Feather Motif: Shō can create feathers made of fire. It makes him look like an angel and might be his natural ability without Divine intervention giving him more power. It's later revealed that he's meant to be the guardian angel to his brother's messiah.
  • Fights Like a Normal: Aside from his time stopping powers, he does't seem to have any obvious fire powers. He just fights fire manipulating opponents with a regular metal sword and almost always ends up winning.
  • Fish out of Water: Begin raised by a cult underground means that Sho has no idea how to deal with the surface world. When trying to blend into a crowd and remaining inconspicuous; he ends up picking up clothes so stylish that passersby stop are stare at him.
  • Flash Step: He is very quick, but not as fast as Joker.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Like Shinra, Shō has white pupils. Unlike Shinra's angled eyes, Shō's softer eyes and evil intent makes him a lot more sinister. Like his older brother, his eyes where once completely normal.
  • Heel–Face Turn: By connecting with Shinra once again through the Adolla Burst, it has broken the brainwashing that Haumea forced on him. This causes him to want to leave the White Clads at all cost and reunite with his older brother.
  • High-Altitude Battle: Goes head-to-head with Faerie to protect Shinra in the skys, using pipes fried by Arrow as stepping stones.
  • Hope Spot: It looks like Shinra has finally freed Shō from The Evangelist... But Haumea stabs him through the chest and uses mind control to force Shō into leaving with her. Also, The Evangelist has robbed Shō of his Time Stands Still power.
  • Kick the Dog: To ensure Shinra understands exactly how little their blood relation means to him, he insults their dead mother. Shinra didn't take it well. Although once he was reminded of his true familial bonds, all the love he had for his brother and mother comes rushing back. At least until Haeuma messes with his brain to repress those memories and emotions.
  • Lack of Empathy: Much like Arrow, Sho isn't interested in other people's lives or emotions. After meeting his older brother he does start to become more curious about the family history and how the White Clad found him but he still completely apathetic about stopping them. A surprise appearance by his mother and a few major revelations motivate him to take a stand. Although he does embody Apathy in the Evangelist's scheme.
  • Light Is Not Good: Shō has white pupils and white hair, wears a white outfit and looks like a little angel. He's a ruthless killing machine, at least before his Heel–Face Turn.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Even without his powers, Sho is exceptionally fast and can hit incredibly hard with his katana despite his smaller frame. This is demonstrated best when he managed to quickly defeat Fairie after he managed to nullify his power before Fairie could react.
  • Mind Screw: Everyone watching him fight completely loses tract of what he is actually doing. It takes a genius to figure out what his power is and Shō's ability is too powerful to break.
  • Mystical Pregnancy: Neither he nor his big brother have a father and are revealed to have been virgin births. He concludes that he is the embodiment of humanity's belief in guardian angels and his purpose is to guide his brother to victory.
  • Not So Stoic: It takes a lot to get a reaction out of Sho but over time a Luminescent Blush or crying are the most obvious displays of emotion.
  • Pintsize Powerhouse: As a child, every other combatant towers over him. Even without using his powers he's strong and fast enough to overwhelm some of the most dangerous characters. With them, nobody but Shinra stands any hope of beating him.
  • Ship Tease: Seeing how far that Arrow is willing to go to stay with him, even if it means betraying the White-Clad, causes him to blush.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Shinra is darkly coloured, loud and kind while Shō dresses in white and is defined by his quiet ruthlessness.
  • Stronger Sibling: All of Shinra's training is an attempt to get anywhere near Sho's level.
  • Super-Empowering: Burns thinks that Sho's Adolla Burst awoke Shinra's.
  • Super-Speed: He can travel a fair distance, calmly observe someone, come to a decision and attack within the span of a second. It's later revealed that while he is quick on his feet, his more extreme feats stem from his ability to dilate time rather than pure speed.
  • Time Stands Still: Downplayed but Viktor suggests that Sho is actually superheating the area around him to increase the expansion of reality around him such that time moves faster for him compared to everyone else via time dilation. So while he's not stopping time, the result is roughly the same.

    Fifth Pillar - Inca Kasugatani

Inca Kasugatani

Voiced by: Miyuri Shimabukuro (Japanese), Madeleine Morris (English), Jessica Ángeles (Latin American Spanish)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ff_inca_kasugatani.png

A young girl who is able to smell when fires are about to start. She uses these powers to leader a group of 'fire thieves', who save people in exchange for their money. She is targeted by the Evangelist and finds herself trapped between cultists trying to control her and the Fire Force trying to save her.

  • Attention Whore: The final two chapters reveal that she became the world's first Witch and is causing havoc all over the world that Shinra, Arthur and Ogun have been running around quelling, JUST to get Shinra to notice her and give in to her desire of birthing Shinra's child. Whether he does remains ambiguous.
  • Ax-Crazy: Though slightly more (big emphasis on "slightly") subdued than the likes of Haumea, Inca is insane and shows excitement at the prospect of seeing people die horribly and feeling the sensation of danger.
  • Babies Ever After: She WANTS this to happen with Shinra but he refuses to, given that they don't have a healthy relationship with one another even by the end of the series. Whether she gets her wish remains ambiguous, veering into a Maybe Ever After.
  • Combat Clairvoyance: Her ability lets her know when somebody is about to launch a fire-based attack. She is so good at this she could dodge a kick from Shinra with ease.
  • Conveniently an Orphan: She says she lost a lot during a fire 2 years ago, implying her family were killed. Meaning she has nothing to worry about besides herself and her friends. Also, nobody will miss her if the cult abducts her.
  • Cosmic Keystone: She is one of the eight Pillars key to the White Clad's plans to end the world.
  • Cute and Psycho: Inca sports a colorful pink hair and has cute looks, but she's very unhinged and holds no regard for the life of others or even herself.
  • The Cynic: She finds Shinra's heroism and idealism laughable. People she saves will eventually die anyway. They might even spontaneously combust immediately afterward, so why bother? She comes around to it eventually, just not for the right reasons.
  • Damsel in Distress: Played with. Inca lampshades this trope and she doesn't want anyone to save her. Instead, she thinks that she is perfectly able to save herself.
    • Inca herself deliberately invokes this, when she willingly joins the Knights to put herself in a situation of constant terror and to experience Shinra chasing her down.
  • Did They or Didn't They?: We see by the epilogue that Shinra has a child but whether she's the mother has yet to be revealed. While she makes it clear she doesn't love Shinra and only wants his strong genes, we don't know for sure whether Shinra was just a donor or actually DID IT with her like she originally suggested.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Inca is seen humming to herself as her town burns down around her. Her friends are terrified, she sees it as a golden opportunity to make some money.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Hers start normal but gain weird star symbols once her powers develop. She latter has the same white pupils as Shinra and Shō.
  • Face–Heel Turn: She was never a good person, as shown by her only rescuing people for personal profit, but she least showed some care for her close friends. Unfortunately, upon discovering just how dangerous the White Clad are, she willingly joins the White Clad and becomes a full-fledged antagonist out of her desire for thrills.
  • The Fatalist: Her powers of fire prediction lead Inca to believe that events are inevitable. She internalizes this belief to let herself take no responsibility for her actions, letting herself commit horrible acts without a care in the world.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: To Soul Eater in its entirety, since she was the world's first Witch.
  • Hate Sink: Aside from Ritsu, nobody cares for Inca. Nobody. Her callous attitude towards others, her disdain for a normal life and need for an adrenaline rush, the fact that she murdered her friend without a second thought (who was trying to save her) and countless other heinous actions have ensured that she earned the enmity of all those around her. Largely subverted by the epilogue, settling more for a Friendly Enemy relationship with Shinra, and the possibility she became the mother of Shinra's child.
  • The Hedonist: Inca cares only for indulging her need for a good time.
  • It's All About Me: Inca cares about her own happiness above all else. If many people end up dying just to excite her, so be it. She later downplays this in the final chapter. While she's still causing problems in the world as the first Witch, she seems to have developed enough restraint to avoid killing and gains enough respect for Shinra that she wants to bear his child to continue his heroic legacy.
  • Japanese Delinquents: Her gang are this. Wearing masks to hide their faces during their criminal activities. Although Inca herself seems like a normal student.
  • Lack of Empathy: Inca has no regard for anyone but herself. She happily indulges in atrocities without a second thought for any suffering she causes as long as she can get her thrills. She would burn one of her only friends to death without a second thought if they got in the way of her fun.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: She has no idea what is happening in her introductory arc. The cultists are trying to capture her and Fire Force are trying to protect her. Neither faction has the time to explain things and she decides that she should avoid both of them.
  • Maybe Ever After: Shinra is confirmed to have a child after the time skip but its not made clear who the mother is. Though it's heavily implied to be Iris since they were dating in the final chapter BEFORE the time skip, Shinra may or may not have given into Inca's desire to give birth to his child.
  • Never My Fault: A hallmark of her character is her avoidance of responsibility. For all her talk about her powers showing what's predetermined, she ignores the fact that she's the one who actually triggers the lines and has never considered NOT activating them. She feels no guilt in burning her friend Panda alive during his misguided attempt to "save" her solely because the heat lines appeared around him then.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: She's really into the idea of danger and the risk of death. It makes some her conversations with Shinra... interesting.
  • Ordinary High-School Student: Inca stated as a normal high school student with a morally questionable double life, implying she is a year or two younger than Shinra.
  • Predecessor Villain: The final chapter shows that Inca was the first true Witch, the progenitor of the ones in Soul Eater. Their shared instinctive desire for chaos and destruction seems stem from them all inheriting a part of her twisted personality.
  • Psycho for Hire: She doesn't have any loyalty to the White-Clad or believe in the Evangelist's cause. She barely even cares about what their plans are. As long as they let her get her kicks using her powers and provide enough thrills, Inca will happily remain on their side.
  • Psycho Pink: She is one of the more unhinged of the White Clad and has pink hair and eyes.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: She couldn't care less about the suffering her actions cause or the survival of humanity in general. All she cares about is whether or not she can get her kicks by being in dangerous situations and playing with super powers. If the Evangelist gives her those opportunities, then Inca will gladly help the White Clad destroy the world. Even if it inevitably includes herself. She'd rather the watch the whole of humanity burn than risk ever being bored.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Ritsu's blue. Unlike her Guardian, Inca is excitable, seeks thrill and takes things lightly. Their opposing personalities make them work efficiently as a team: Ritsu can act as a voice of reason while using her zombie-Infernals to protect Inca from attacks while Inca is able to predict accidents that can allow Ritsu to employ her necromantic abilities better and encourage her to push the limits of her power rather than be overly cautious. They are even Color-Coded for Your Convenience, with Inca sporting pink hair to contrast Ritsu's blue one.
  • Sanity Slippage: While Inca was never sane she seemed to have some attachment for her associates Sancho and Panda, as well as for her friend of the school. After discovering the true extent of her powers and joining the White Clad, Inca loses any restraint she had before. Fully embraces the chaos and destruction the Evangelist is planning to unleash, becoming much more noticeably unhinged and deranged.
  • Second Hour Superpower: When faced with Charon and a life of suffering, Inca develops her powers out of fear and desperation. She not only smells and predicts fire, she becomes able to create (but not control) explosions.
  • Shout-Out: Her hoodie has the same eye marks as Medusa, a major villain of Soul Eater. The connection between the two is much deeper than shown as Inca is revealed to be the predecessor to all Witches in the final chapters.
  • The Sociopath: Once she peels back the layers this is all she is. Inca is a shallow person devoid of empathy, obsessed with her own pleasure and believes that because life is important her life is more important than anyone else's.
  • Squishy Wizard: Inca's fire prediction and direction powers make her very destructive and give her the ability to anticipate enemy attacks, but she has no physical combat ability beyond the occasional bout of Deadly Dodging. Combined with the need for time and concentration to use her powers, this makes Inca practically useless in battle without constant protection. Ritsu had to be assigned as her guardian because her ability to make zombie Infernals can keep Inca covered at all times.
  • Straw Nihilist: Inca doesn't see any inherent value in life beyond entertainment, so she gladly goes along with the White Clad's apocalyptic plans purely to indulge her need for excitement. The fact that her own death is part of the plan doesn't bother her much: she would rather die in an exciting way than live a "boring" life.
  • Thrill Seeker: Inca's actions are based around her desire to put her life on the line and fight to survive. Her crimes as a fire thief are just to put herself in danger once again. During a battle with the White Clads, where a majority of the city has been destroyed and countless civilians were killed, Inca makes the choice to go with them since she'll be "happier" that way. Shinra calls her out on this, telling her she is really pathetic for going out of her way to behave like this and if her life is really that "empty". This actually gets a rise out of Inca, prompting her to yell back.
Shinra: Wha-? Danger?! I don't give a damn if that's what you want! Look at this city! They did this, just to get you! People, who wanted to live, are now dead! And you just want to end your life on your own?! Is your life really that empty?!
Inca: "Empty"?! How can you know that!? It's my precious life, it's not "empty"! This is my life, nobody else's! I don't care about you or anyone else! And I don't want to have a boring life like everyone else, I don't want to die like that! That's why I want to put myself in danger, I'm so excited! I feel so happy risking my life!
  • Ungrateful Bastard: She kills Panda when he tries to rescue her from Haumea and Charon under the excuse that, since a thread of flames appeared around him, it was his fate to die horribly burned alive. Considering Panda was risking his life for her, it comes as a extremely cold and callous action.
  • Wicked Witch: In the epilogue chapters, it's implied that Inca becomes the first Witch, or at least one of them, complete with the outfit.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: The weakness of her explosive power is that she cannot use it without seeing a pathway of heat to control. Inca interprets this as she is fated to attack some people and not others. This also means she feels no regret or shame when using her power when she can.

Seventh Pillar - The Servant (SPOILER)

Sister Sumire

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sumire_6.png
Sumire attended The Holy Sol Temple, where she took care of children such as Hibana and Iris. As it turns out after the incident at the temple where only Hibana and Iris survived, she's the Seventh Pillar and serves the Evangelist.
  • Co-Dragons: Shares this position for the Evangelist along with Yona (probably the oldest subordinate of the Evangelist and the one who shaped the history of the Tokyo Empire) and Haumea (commander of the White Clad). It is revealed that she was alive when the Great Cataclysm happened, and that she played a similar role to Haumea there, though now she prefers to work from the shadows.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: She appears very briefly as a non-descript nun fussing over Hibana's carelessness with her powers. The only difference between her and the other caretakers is that she is named.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Despite having her real misanthropic intentions exposed, she still has a very calm expression when confronted by Hibana.
  • Evil All Along: She's been harvesting the children as crops that eventually lead to them becoming Infernals or dying by the flames in attempts to turn them into Doppelgangers.
  • Evil Matriarch: She not only raised Iris and Hibana who survived her experiments, but she also raised Rekka as well.
  • Foreshadowing: Unnatural earthquakes are reported as early as the Netherworld arc and are used by the Evangelist to signal a retreat. Over a hundred chapters latter Sumire's power is revealed and assumably she is their source.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name means "violet" written in katakana. In Chapter 199 written in kanji for the first time however... it means "charcoal servant" in Japanese that reveals she's not what she seems.
  • Misanthrope Supreme: She symbolizes the concept of Disgust for the pillars and displayed complete contempt for her fellow man for hundreds of years. It's this hatred of humanity that led her to join the Evangelist's cause centuries prior to the story and help start the first Great Cataclysm, and this same hatred motivates her to stay dead after the world is remade.
  • Nuns Are Spooky: Following The Reveal, she definitely comes across as this.
  • This Cannot Be!: Her reaction to Arthur defeating Dragon and setting back the Cataclysm.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: Again, the nun from Hibana's flashback is revealed to be The Seventh Pillar. And she is also behind the doppelgänger experiments and raised Rekka into being a servant of the Evangelist. Making her directly responsible for all his crimes and accidentally key to Hibana's decent into obsession.
  • Oh, Crap!: Shinra's eyes snapping open as he rips his way out of his restraints is the first thing to scare Sumire.
  • Vibroweapon: As a 3rd Gen Pyrokinetic, she can create vibrations from her body that creates heat to destroy metal objects and, when using Adolla Link, cause the ground to shake.
  • Really 700 Years Old: She was around before the first Great Cataclysm as a Japanese businesswoman, helped start the first one, and has spent decades masquerading as a kindly nun to start the next one.
  • Wham Line:
    • In Chapter 199:
"You can't have flowers without bugs!" [...] You remember, right? The name 'Sister Sumire'?" note
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: She ends up choosing to die in the end, having had enough living after witnessing two Great Cataclysms in her lifetime.

Bodyguards

    Arrow

Arrow

Voiced by: Yumi Uchiyama (Japanese), Tabitha Ray (English), Lourdes Arruti (Latin American Spanish)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/arrow_0.png

One of the first introduced and one of the most prominent, Arrow is a Third Generation fighter with the ability to generate a bow and arrows out of fire that surpass bullets and tanks in terms of destructive power.

  • Action Girl: Undeniably.
  • A Day In The Lime Light: She and Sho get some focus when they decide to leave the White Clad. Later they spend a mini-arc researching the Kusakabe family history.
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Dark hair, dark heart and very quiet.
  • Arrows on Fire: She has an ability to conjure flame bow and arrows. They can either act as piercing shots or explosives.
  • Beleaguered Assistant: Is forced to work with Haumea and clearly hates every second of it.
  • Bodyguard Babes: She's meant to be The Dragon to the 'Third Pillar' and she is quite the looker.
  • Cold Sniper: She is an extremely frigid woman and is specialized in attacks from long range, being show killing people from different buildings.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Both her eyes and hair display the same dark bluish color.
  • Dark Action Girl: She's a force to reckon with in the battlefield and among the female members of the White Clad, she possesses one of the most action oriented abilities.
  • The Dragon: Acts as the second in command of the Knights of the Ashen Flame and, as Sho's guardian, she's his most loyal and trustworthy subordinate.
  • Enemy Mine: Having left the White Clad alongside Sho, she ends up directly teaming with Company 8 when Sho disappears to Adolla along with Shinra and Iris. The heroes haven't forgotten her crimes, not that she really cares or regrets what she did, but considering the White Clad are seemingly one step away from the End of the World as We Know It, they don't really have time to debate.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Arrow is disgusted by being forced to stand by and watch her commanding officer being used as Haumea's plaything. Haumea in general seems to get under Arrow's skin.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Hinawa. They are both relentless fighters with a focus on long-range attacks and a emotionless approach to conflict. The difference is that Arrow believes human emotion and desire are irrelevant, while Hinawa can still value people.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Both her eyes feature a downwards pointing arrows as pupils, though they notably point upwards as indicator of positive emotions. Especially when just being around Sho in general.
  • Evil Duo: When paired with Haran as they cover each other's weaknesses through flawless teamwork.Getting stuck with Haumea made Arrow much less capable.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: Among the Guardians of the Pillars belonging to the White Clad, she's the Thief. As a sniper, she primarily uses long ranged attacks and tends to either remain in a secure spot to shoot her fire blasts or have a partner more oriented to physical, contact fight who can cover her weaknesses. As such, she's shown to perform poorly in direct physical fights, as her brief scuffle with Maki in Haijima shows.
  • Hartman Hips: Her usual robe completely hides her extremely curvaceous figure and massive hips and thighs.
  • Hidden Buxom: In addition to her aforementioned wide hips, her robes and cloak hide her large breasts.
  • Icy Blue Eyes: Arrow has a calm and cold personality, focused and trained to kill. When she uses her abilities, her eyes glow an eerie blue.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Arrow can see a target hundreds of meters away while in absolute darkness and react appropriately. She can even fire an accurate shot in those conditions while injured.
  • Male Might, Female Finesse: Haran uses brute force and close range combat, while Arrow uses range and planning her shots.
  • Nerves of Steel: Very little phases her. She shows it best in her fight with Hinawa where she faces the equivalent of an artillery barrage on foot without a shred of panic.
  • Reluctant Fanservice Girl: Arrow completely hides her figure in her robes and makes no attempts to emphasize how shapely she is. When Haumea strips and shocks out of spite while grabbing her, Arrow is clearly uncomfortable not only with the shock and Haumea's behaviour, but her body being shown off so blatantly in front of people.
  • Samus Is a Girl: Her name and initial design hides any clues of gender. She is eventually revealed to be a woman during her fight with Shinra.
  • Scars Are Forever: She has a scar across her nose after fighting Hinawa.
  • Ship Tease: Its hinted that she follows Sho because she likes him, not just because it's her duty. Even when Sho tells her to get lost, she's adamant about wanting to be near him at all times. Though she's not seen much in the finale, she is last seen smiling together with Sho when everything is tied up neatly
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only woman on the team until Haumea appears.
  • The Stoic: The number of times she expresses emotion or pain can be counted on one hand.
  • Trick Arrow: Her arrows can either cut enough bodies and buildings, curve in mid-air or explode on impact.
  • Undying Loyalty: She will follow Sho no matter where he goes, even if it means betraying the White Clad.
  • Wingding Eyes: She has pupils that look like downward facing arrows, matching her theme.
  • You Have Failed Me: Arrow kills Rekka after he gets captured to prevent him from talking. Given her personality, it's unlikely Arrow was the one to make the call, she was just excellent at carrying it out.

    Charon

Charon

Voiced by: Hiroki Yasumoto (Japanese), Ray Hurd (English), Gerardo Vásquez (Latin American Spanish)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charon_fire_force_132728.jpg

Haumea's partner and bodyguard. He combines deadly explosions with brutal martial arts skills to achieve their master's goals. He becomes a giant obstacle thought out the series due to his insane strength. He takes the spotlight in the Fifth Pillar arc.

  • Ambiguously Brown: Like Hibana, is likely his natural skin tone.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Fights with his bare hands and martial arts mastery.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: While he may appear as brutish and is not very bright (at times), Charon is a force to reckon with in the battlefield, and is more clever of what his appearance may suggest.
  • Blindfolded Vision: He's worn a blindfold for over a decade. It doesn't seem to have cause him any trouble.
  • Blood Knight: He really enjoys fighting. He's also really good at it and one of the most useful members of the White Clad when it comes to fighting.
  • Brains and Brawn: Charon acts as the Brawn in Haumea's plans, following her orders and battling their opponents.
  • Calling Your Attack: Often shouts out what he is going to do before he does it. It's actually part of his strategy. Distracting attention away from his true power.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Once Shinra discovers the true nature about his ability, he orders his subordinates to beat him in order to accumulate more kinetic energy in order to overwhelm Shinra.
  • Constantly Curious: The man will ask a question over and over and over until he gets his answer or somebody punches him.
  • Counter-Attack: A master of these. Every time he is hit, Charon finds a way of dominating his opponent with counters.
  • Declaration of Protection: Promises to protect Haumea no matter what. He also promises to protect Shinra as well, because they need him alive as one of the Pillars.
    • He later shouts that he will protect Haumea, Shinra, Inca, and Nataku. Even through Nataku was trying to kill him and all of Tokyo.
  • The Dragon: To Haumea and is one of the strongest characters in the series.
  • Energy Absorption: His power is this trope, allowing him to absorb kinetic energy from attacks and convert it into thermal energy he can redirect. Getting in a brawl with him is a very bad idea, as he'll just nullify and redirect any attack he receives with time.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He's not above killing civilians or witnesses, but even he thinks certain powers like Ritsu's are simply distasteful.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: Among the Guardians of the Pillars belonging to the White Clad, he's the Fighter. Charon is a mountain of muscles who displays great physical prowess in battle, being able to throw powerful blows and being a very skilled martial artist. His Second Generation ability also makes him the perfect tank, being able to stand, absorb and redirect powerful attacks, even nuclear blasts with enough power to blow up a city.
  • Hyper-Competent Sidekick: Charon is doggedly loyal to Haumea, exceptionally skilled in every area she struggles with, and puts up with her insanity without complaint. She outright admits that she considers his job to be cleaning up after the situations her impulsiveness creates.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: There is more to him and his power than mets the eye. He actually absorbs kinetic impact, stores it in his body and releases it as an attack. He can't actually create his own flames. He hides this to ensure his opposition won't stop hitting him or realize why he is so durable.
  • Implacable Man: His powers make him all but immune to harm. Even if they’re overwhelmed, he's next to impossible to keep down for more than a minute or two.
  • Immune to Bullets: They bounce of him harmlessly because he absorbs all the force and adds it to his own power.
  • Kamehame Hadoken: Fires one against Shinra. He does the classic stance and everything.
  • Large Ham: When he gets going, he gets really loud and over the top.
  • Last Stand: Meets his end blocking the door to Amaterasu with his body and sustaining repeated Velocity Rampage shots from Hinawa (which were previously stated to be comparable to shots from a tank) in rapid succession, eventually going over the limit of the kinetic energy he could store and going up in flames, before finally expiring after unleashing one one final counterattack. He had sustained so much damage that the he formed a laser that seemingly obliterated Dragon and could easily be seen from orbit.
  • Mercy Kill: Charon believes that death is what humanity desires *and* deserves it. And if that's what they want: that's what they'll get. His primary reason for going along with the Evangelist's plans is because the end of the world would grant Haumea, who he had effectively raised as a father, peace, since she had been tuned to all of humanity's dark thoughts and desire for death since the day she was born.
  • Mood-Swinger: He might actually be worse then Haumea in this regard. Charon will jump between stoic religious platitudes, manic yelling, cold professionalism, innocent questions, sinister threats and furious questions in the span of seconds.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Heavy impacts and explosions don't slow him down. If anything, they amuse him. Even after Shinra hit him with a massive attack he couldn't absorb, Charon gets back to his feet with only minor injuries.
    • He manages to tank and redirect a radioactive blast that would have potentially leveled Tokyo and redirect to the moon, where it made a visible crater.
    • He finally reaches the limit of what he can absorb after tanking a massive number of rifle shots from Hinawa amplified by his powers, which were said to be comparable to blasts from a tank.
  • Noble Top Enforcer: Charon would die if it let his master succeed. Meaning he might even maybe do the right thing... if it means his side wins in the end.
  • No-Respect Guy: On his own team at least. Haumea would never admit that she respects him, Ritsu calls him an idiot, and Inca seems to think the way he gets bossed around is funny.
  • Parental Substitute: To Haumea, having been in charge of raising her since childhood. Her belligerent behavior towards him is a source of grief, and Inca thinks it's like a rebellious phase between a father and daughter, since she herself had been that way to her own father. This is what also drives him to bring about the Cataclysm, since it would finally stop Haumea from feeling all of mankind's negative impulses, and the emotion she's able to feel from him is unconditional love.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: When he really gets going, he can flatten city blocks by stepping hard enough.
  • Pet the Dog: Asks Inca to allow Nataku to remain with the Hajima since Kurono would serve as his bodyguard. He recognized that while the relationship between them doesn't seem right or healthy to 99% of the population, the bond between them made it the best-case scenario. This is probably the same reason he serves Haumea.
  • Promotion to Parent: It seems Charon was just a teenager before he was put in charge of protecting and partly raising Haumea. Given that she's a Spoiled Brat and Charon doesn't have any control over her, it doesn't seem like it worked out for him.
  • Super-Strength: He can casually tear a man to shreds with one hand. He only gets stronger as he absorbs more attacks.
  • Undying Loyalty: No matter what happens or how difficult Haumea is, Charon will always protect her. This is also tied to his loyalty to the Evangelist. For Haumea this is also confirmed to be an unconditional love.
  • Unstoppable Force Meets Immovable Object: Charon is invincible so Kurono can't hurt him. But Kurono is so skilled that Charon can't do anything to him.
  • Villainous Valor: Risked his life to deflect a huge nuke fired by Nataku that would have obliterated the city. Granted, he had to protect the Pillars gathered in the area, but still.

    Ritsu

Ritsu

Voiced by: Rumi Ōkubo (Japanese), Brittany Lauda (English), Cynthia Chong (Latin American Spanish)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ritsu_ff_anime.PNG

The bodyguard for the Fifth Pillar and commander of the Knights of the Purple Smoke. She is a polite maid whose Ignition ability, Necropyro, allows her to create and control Infernals.

  • Arc Villain: Of the Joint Investigation arc, where she's the one pulling the strings of the whole second operation into the Nether.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Her necromantic skills are a force to reckon with, but she cannot generate zombies out of the blue and needs corpses to use her Necro Pyro, so she can't use her Ignition Ability in every moment like other Third Generation individuals. She's paired with Inca to cover this weakness, since, thanks to Inca's clairvoyance, she can get corpses easier.
  • The Chessmaster: The whole Joint Investigation arc is a big gambit of Ritsu to lure Companies 2 and 8 to the Nether and kill enough people to create an army of Infernals to blow up the Tokyo Empire.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Cladding a mentally unstable Pillar inside a Flame Giant with the Ax-Crazy, mind-controlling Haumea around wasn't such a bright idea.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: She's noticeably concerned after Haumea uses her mind control powers to mentally destabilize Nataku (trapped inside the Giant Infernal Ritsu created), even more so when the kid's true destructive powers are revealed.
  • Eyes Out of Sight: Her bangs are so long they cover her eyes completely.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: Among the Guardians of the Pillars belonging to the White Clad, she's the Mage. Her main ability allows her to revive and manipulate the dead in many different ways (from ordering them to attack enemies in large quantities to make them explode), and she's able to create powerful minions out of this. In spite of this, she however doesn't displays any physical ability and leaves her undead soldiers do the heavy work while she hides in a safe spot where she can control them more efficiently.
  • Mad Bomber: She can make her undead minions explode. During the Joint Investigation arc, she planned to use all the zombie Infernals created by the corpses left by the fire soldiers of the 2nd Company to blow up the Nether, a process that would destroy the Tokyo Empire as a whole, as the foundations of the buildings of the empire are situated in the Nether.
  • Meido: Has this aesthetic, and refers to herself as Inca's maid.
  • Mook Maker: By fusing her minions with other Infernals, she can create Giant Infernals that, while not as strong as Demons, are still incredible tough. The giant in question will be stronger if Ritsu uses a person with a strong body or good fighting skills as the base for it.
  • Necromancer: She can raise the dead and turn them into Infernals, even merging them together. She can also revive those killed by her minions or those who died in a range where her powers can work.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Inca's red. Unlike her master, Ritsu is calmer, responsible and takes things more seriously, though in this case, their opposing personalities make them work efficiently as a team, with Inca being able to predict accidents that can allow Ritsu to employ her necromantic abilities better. They are even Color-Coded for Your Convenience, with Ritsu sporting blue hair to contrast Inca's pink one.
  • Powers Do the Fighting: Her Ignition Ability allows her to create powerful minions, but Ritsu herself is not seeing fighting and prefers to stay away from the battlefield.
  • Zombie Apocalypse: Fully capable of causing one, provided she has enough corpses.

Knight of the Ashen Flame

The first faction of the White Clad to appear in the series and the main group to menace the Fire Force under the command of The Commander. For more info on them click here.

Knights of the Purple Smoke

A secondary group of White Clad, the Purple Smoke Knights are subservient to Ritsu.

    Orochi

Orochi

Voiced by: Shizuka Itō (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/orochi_fire_force_anime.PNG

The first member of the Knights of the Purple Smoke to appear, confronting Hajiki's group. Her ability allows her to create a whip of flames she can use for both offense and defense.

  • Back from the Dead:She's one of the many characters brought back to life in the finale.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Juggernaut slams a missile into her face with so much force it crushes the left side of her face, pops out her right eye from its orbit and apparently breaks her neck in the process. Then it explodes with the explosion of the bomb being so great it's implied it reduced her to nothing.
  • Dark Action Girl: Very efficient and ruthless in battle, showing no mercy to her enemies and being very deadly.
  • Elemental Weapon: She creates a fiery whip with her power named Medusa Whip. When its spinning it can block bullets, but when it's straight it has a powerful offense that can kill anyone who doesn't have a strong resistance to fire and harm those who do.
  • Hero Killer: She kills Hajiki in her debut scene, being the first antagonist who kills an unambiguous heroic character in the series. She also comes very close to kill both Tamaki and Juggernaut as well, even dismembering Juggernaut towards the end of their fight.
  • Hidden Depths: She's surprisingly feminine deep down and acts shyly around Hajiki towards the end of the series.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: Her fringe covers the left side of her face completely, reflecting her normally stoic, no-nonsense personality.
  • Killed Off for Real: Unlike other White Clad members, who tend to have their fate unclear after their defeat), her demise is clearly shown in detail and made in such way it's apparent she's done for. Subverted later when she's brought back by Shinra.
  • Knight of Cerebus: She introduces herself by killing Hajiki and then then ends up cutting off limbs of Juggernaut at the end of their fight.
  • Love at First Sight: She didn't have this occur to her at first since it happened so fast and it was dark and hard to see in the Nether, but when everyone is brought back to life, as soon as she gets a good look at Hajiki's handsome face, she's instantly weak in the knees.
  • Luminescent Blush: She has this happen to her frequently when she interacts with Hajiki properly.
  • More Deadly Than the Male: Out of the four members of the Knights of the Purple Smoke, barring Ritsu, she's shown as the most competent and dangerous, as she gets to kill Hajiki and nearly kills Juggernaut and Tamaki. In comparisson, Iron, despite his power, got defeated without even laying a finger on his adversaries due his recklesness in the battlefield and Sasori and his partner were each one easily taken out by Obi and Honda, respectively.
  • Official Couple: Hooks up with her former victim no less! Though it looks like she and Hajiki are going to be happy together.
  • Orochi: She's named after the legendary Yamata-no-Orochi. While she doesn't turns into a giant snake or directly mentions it, her ability is an indirect reference to it, as her Medusa Whip is able to generate eight tails, like the number of heads the monster possessed in the legend.
  • Pair the Spares: In the closing chapters of the manga where everyone is hooking up left and right, she hooks up with Hajiki of all people.
  • Shout-Out: She's an obvious reference to Medusa from author Atsushi Okubo's previous work. She's a female antagonist with greenish yellow hair named after a mythological figure related to snakes and her ability is called Medusa Whip.

    Iron

Iron

Voiced by: Yasuhiro Mamiya (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/iron_fire_force_anime.PNG

Another member of the Knights of the Purple Smoke, appearing to confront Hinawa and Takigi. His ability is called Martensite, and gives him the power to toughen his body depending of the heat he applies to it, being able to get as hard as steel.

  • Attack Its Weak Point: Hinawa defeats him once he realizes he can't harden his joints, manipulating his bullets to hit Iron on his weak spots.
  • The Brute: He's this among the Knights of the Purple Smoke. He's loud, not very intelligent, possesses the greatest amount of physical power among the other members of the order, and is a mountain of pure muscle.
  • Dumb Muscle: While Iron's physical strength is undeniable, the same cannot be said about his intelligence, given how his whole strategy in battle is to wreck things, charge directly to the enemy and occasionaly shoot flames to them, without even bothering to think in a countermeasure for the weakness of his joints. He mentions before falling defeated that's the reason why he couldn't become a guardian in the first place.
  • Evil Is Bigger: Easily towers over Hinawa (who is fairly tall at 1'80 m) and Takigi (who looks about the same height as Hinawa), and nearly over most of the cast.
  • Hidden Depths: In spite of not being very bright, he seems to know his fair share of metallurgy, as he explains very well how the process of martensite works.
  • Laughably Evil: His over the top behaviour and ridiculous manliness makes him come across as more comedic than his more serious partners.
  • The Faceless: Unlike his partners, we never get to see his face, as he never removes his hood at any point.
  • No Indoor Voice: Constantly yelling and boasting about himself. Hinawa even compares him to Arthur when he announces himself to his enemies in the middle of the battlefield.
  • Super-Toughness: His body is strong enough to resist bullets. This is because he can heat or cool his body as he likes, so he can become as strong as steel. But he can't do the same for his joints.
  • Testosterone Poisoning: He's a hulking giant of pure muscle who's boastful and incredibly hammy. He even flex his pecs multiple times during his battle against Hinawa and Takigi.

    Sasori

Sasori

Voiced by: Akinori Egoshi (Japanese), Lee George (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sasori_fire_force_anime.PNG

A member of the Knights of the Purple Smoke that, along with his partner, encountered Tamaki after the battle with Orochi. His ability takes the shape of a scorpion stinger and allows him to fire succesive fireball projectiles.

  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Is on the receiving end of it during his brief fight with Obi. It only takes a single punch from Obi to defeat Sasori for good.
  • Devious Daggers: In addition of possessing an Ignition Ability, he's seen carrying a dagger with him, that he uses to try to kill Tamaki before being stopped by Captain Honda.
  • Expy: Sasori bears a strong resemblance to Masamune, Tsubaki's brother from Ohkubo's Soul Eater.
  • Shaping Your Attacks: His Ignition Ability gives him the power to turn his flames into a big scorpion stinger. He can either shoot smaller fireballs with it or directly throw it to his enemies as a huge projectile.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Gets defeated in the first chapter he appears and we don't get to know much about him either. At least he got his name and ability revealed, unlike his partner.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Showed no problem attacking and later trying to kill Tamaki.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Dismishes Obi as a weakling cause he doesn't possesses any fire manipulation ability. Obi proves him wrong and defeats him of a single punch to the face.

Butchers

The White-Clad’s group of assassins, specializing in killing those with Ignition abilities.

    Gold

Gold

Voiced by: Yōko Hikasa (Japanese)

  • Dull Surprise: Her expressions are rather subdued.
  • Facial Markings: Has the alchemical symbol for 'gold' on her forehead.
  • Foreshadowing: Gold admits that her taunting and her powers are not made her killing people. She uses them to cause despair...
  • Hero Killer: Like all Butchers, she specializes in killing those with Ignition abilities. She is responsible for assassinating Captain Hague.
  • Magnetism Manipulation: She can heat her gold gauntlets to create and manipulate magnetic fields.
  • Pretty Little Headshots: Right on her bullseye-like facial marking, no less.
  • Verbal Tic: Cha-ching!

    Stream
Another member of Gold's unit. His talent is using his flames to harness air currents and create both whirlwinds and vacuums.
  • Blow You Away: His fire abilities allow him to create razor winds to devastate his enemies.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: His powers allow him to effortlessly overpower all of Company 8 and they have no way of countering them. Arthur then shows up and effortlessly puts Stream ends up on the receiving end of one before taking him out.
  • Super-Speed: He can wrap his legs with whirlwinds to float and move to blinding speeds.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Stream reveals himself and gets killed off within a chapter.

    Dragon

Dragon

The most powerful of the Butchers and long standing member of the White Clad. Dragon lives up to his name through his imposing stature and ability to breath fire. Unlike the rest of his group, his focus isn't on assassinating people with precision but flattening everyone is his path.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: Dragon's survival in the vacuum of space is mostly down to his connection to the Adolla allowing him to bend the rules of reality to fit his self image and understanding of what the world is. His supreme confidence in his own indestructibility combined with the fact Dragon doesn't know he should be dying means he's able to breath and talk just fine.
  • Ambiguously Human: Refers to himself as a dragon rather than a human. Also seemingly possesses the ability to Infernalize at will. Considering he came into existence after the first Cataclysm in destroyed parts of the world, his humanity remains ambiguous at best.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Towards the end of his and Arthur's fight, Arthur manages to power himself up enough through Adolla and his self-perception to start hurting Dragon even through his natural toughness, eventually slicing off his left hand. Dragon responds by using the Blade Below the Shoulder formed from his draconic armor to slice Arthur across the eye in nearly the same instant, and later returns the favor by blasting off Arthur's own left hand with his Breath Weapon.
  • Black Knight: He eventually turns his Infernal scales into a suit of armor to battle Arthur.
  • Breath Weapon: Par for the course for a dragon. It can even reach Wave-Motion Gun levels.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: His first fight with Arthur is laughably one-sided. Arthur doesn't even scratch Dragon throughout the fight, and Dragon passively damages Arthur with Dragon Scales and sends him reeling with a comparatively weak Dragon Breath. Dragon finishes off Arthur by activating his Infernal armor and tanking a blow from Arthur's sword, causing it to shatter and knock Arthur out with the blowback. When Company 8 tries to assist, Dragon simply fires off a Dragon Breath powerful enough that Maki is unable to control it that would've killed Company 8 if not for Iris' Grace activating.
  • Died Happily Ever After: Having found solace that after centuries of living an empty and despair-filled life, his despair could - and did - end, Dragon finds hope for the first time in his life. His last words are to laud Arthur for his victory and give him his genuine thanks for meeting him and granting him hope in death.
  • The Dreaded: To Arthur specifically and to Company 8 by extension. Once Dragon makes himself known to them they build combat strategies around conserving strength in case Dragon shows up. Arthur just seems to know when Dragon is on his way.
  • Desperately Seeking A Purpose In Life: He has spent hundreds of years lonely and depressed at how everything seemed to break and despair in the wake of his overwhelming power and his status as a feared outcast and grew to despise the world and his existence in it since childhood. Eventually, Fairie offered him the chance to use his chance for a purpose, namely the destruction of the world itself via the Great Cataclysm, and he quickly took up the offer
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: After just doing this to Arthur in their rematch, he in turn gets the left half of his body disintegrated by Arthur's Violet Flash: Planet Divider.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Though some kind of Pyrokinetic Generation, it's not clear if he's human. He came into existence after the first Cataclysm in destroyed parts of the world, has lived for centuries, and as a late has been considered the incarnation of despair whose negativity keeps the Great Cataclysm going. It's implied he's the living incarnation of the human collective thought of a great beast that lives within the skies that inspired stories of Dragons
  • Lack of Empathy: Dragon doesn't have any sympathy for the weak or the wounded.
  • Made of Iron: Even when Arthur finally manages to start hurting Dragon through utilizing Adolla to make himself strong enough to fight him, Dragon doesn't make it easy for him, enduring damaging attacks such as being impaled repeatedly with barely a flinch and dealing with his left hand getting cut off by using the same instant to land a devastating counter to Arthur without acknowledging his injury.
  • Hope Crusher: Dragon leaves nothing but misery and defeat in his wake. Hope is just something that can't exist around him.
  • Humans Are Insects: Definitely follows this line of thinking, even equating humans to dust. He even calls Faerie a bug.
  • Mathematician's Answer: When Arthur asks Dragon why he keeps judging people like he's not human himself, Dragon simply says 'I am Dragon'. Which does nothing to explain if he's actually just a person with a giant ego or actually not human.
  • Mutual Kill: His rematch with Arthur ends this way, with only half of their bodies remaining before they each die.
  • No-Sell: Nothing so far has injured him. Thus far, he has taken hard hits from both Arthur and Benimaru without receiving damage. He even tanked a blast stronger than Nataku's ultimate laser, which caused a crater on the moon after being reflected by Charon, without being harmed, though he was blown into space. He only starts to take damage after Arthur starts taking advantage of the Cataclysm to power himself up, but even then Dragon is barely slowed down.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: He has been one throughout his life, having his spent his early years from childhood wrecking the landscape and splitting oceans while destroying what little remained of civilization.
  • Straw Nihilist: He could not care less about living if he tried. When left alone with his thoughts and nothing to do Dragon is content to just drift aimlessly. When Charon's dying blast throws Dragon into space, the knowledge despair won convinced Dragon to float through space forever. He only changes his mind when he notices Arthur still hadn't given up and then comes back to Earth for one Last Dance.
    • Dragon's personal misery along with his astonishing power result in his feelings single-handedly tipping the scales of the Collective Consciousness towards despair and death. Meaning that all the Fire Force's attempt to keep hope alive during the Cataclysm mean nothing so long as Dragon is passively dragging them all towards ruin.
  • Rule of Three: He duels Arthur three times over the course of the series and their conflict escalates to new heights every time.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Dragon is humorously the only character in the series who doesn't notice that Arthur is a weirdo. He will take whatever knightly delusion Arthur is talking about at face value. Only questioning how whatever adventure Arthur went through could possibly prepare him for the might of Dragon.
  • World's Strongest Man: One of the other contenders for the title, Benimaru, recognized his strength and calls him a monster. The other White-Clad refer to him as having no equal and he lives up to this, having by far the best abilities in the series in terms of pure power output and durability. Considering his nature as the incarnation of despair, as well as his ability to No-Sell nearly anything, he may very well be the strongest character in the series, surpassing both Benimaru and Kurono. The Narrator of his final fight with Arthur outright calls it a battle between the strongest, which considering they go to space after splitting the seas as a warm-up, is very hard to argue with.
  • Worthy Opponent: He was hoping Arthur could be one during their first fight because of the boy's peerless swordplay but is quickly disappointed. During their final showdown during the Cataclysm Arthur manages to inflict a real injury on Dragon. Realising he's finally dealing with somebody who can hurt him, Dragon properly addresses Arthur by name instead of his previous dismissive "boy", before urging him to continue their fight with utter glee. He eventually starts calling Arthur by his Knight King epitaph out of respect.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Not like the cold would bother him.
  • Written Sound Effect: Dragon's appearances and actions are punctuated by sound cues from the entire manga that officially translate to 'Dra-Goon'. The thunderous sound that shakes the world? That's his own name.
  • Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe: Nowhere near as bad as Faerie but official translations have Dragon speak in a more eloquent and old-fashioned manner.
  • Your Size May Vary: Dragon's size is in constant flux. When he's doing nothing he is still twice Arthur's height (meaning at least 10 foot tall) but when he attacks his fist are bigger than a human's upper body. When people start to feel overwhelmed by him, Dragon appears as a colossus blocks out the sky.

Great Cataclysm Execution Specialist Force

A newly-appeared group of White-Clad, subservient to Faerie. Their role is to ensure that the final stages of the Evangelist's plan go off perfectly.

    Faerie
A member and apparent leader of the Cataclysm Force. He was apparently in the running to become the guardian of the Third Pillar, but was rejected and seems bitter about it.
  • Anime Hair: Possesses a truly bizarre, two-colored hairstyle. Not only do his bangs look like both teeth and a crown but they sometimes stretch down over his eyes in ways that don't make much sense.
  • Colony Drop: After Dragon's defeat that lead to people being inspired with hope, he attempts to bring despair to them by doing this with the MOON! Good thing Shinra stopped it in time and Sho is there to prevent Faerie from making any moves.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Faerie's 'fight' with Sho once Shinra is revived from the pillar amounts to this. It lasts all of a single chapter and the only reason that Sho doesn't end the fight in a single move is that Faerie's Gravity Master powers can also distort the flow of time through altering the mass in the space between them to counter Sho's powers. Sho just gets serious and fatally stabs Faerie in his next move, retorting that Faerie might be able to stand in the same stage as him, but he cannot keep up with Sho's top speed regardless.
  • Gravity Master: Can increase the mass and gravitational force of objects through his Ignition ability. With Adolla Burst, he can cause objects to levitate, even to the point of entering orbit. He can even do this with the moon!- albeit, this is also hinted to be only possible when the world is merged partially with Adolla, allowing him to pull of stunts that would normally be beyond his abilities.
  • Humiliation Conga: Dragon's defeat causes everything to fall apart for Faeire very quickly. Not only does Faerie devolve into a ranting and screaming wreck but his very attempt to regain composure and control is immediately counted. By the end Sho is completely ignoring him.
  • Invisibility: Can both turn himself invisible either partially or fully, through as of yet unexplained means.
  • Hope Crusher: Faerie's duty is to make sure the Evangelist wins. Doing so involves breaking the Empire's sprit. Once the world fuses with Adolla the thoughts of mankind shape the merger. If they have hope and resist their programming then the Cataclysm stops or reverses. So Faerie needs them broken and terrified.
    • This means that the only thing that can truly scare him is ironically the Saviour who plays the Hope Bringer role.
  • Morton's Fork: The majority of his plans involve forcing the Fire Force into no-win situations. They can choose to do nothing which allows Faerie to slaughter hundreds or they can fight back and obtain a short-term victory that fuels his ultimate goal.
  • Power Floats: Usually seen levitating.
  • Sore Loser: He was meant to be Sho's guardian but Arrow got the role instead. While he is completely in control of his emotions it's implied Faerie resents this choice.
    • This trait is confirmed with his screaming meltdown that Arthur and Shira ruin his plans in rapid succession. And he ends not screaming at Sho that his rightful rank of Guardian means that the boy should recognise him as his better. It makes his death read less like a backup plan and more like a Rage Quit.
  • Thanatos Gambit: He and his Cataclysmic Force commit suicide as their final move to bring despair by summoning Doppelgangers of the most powerful in the establishment, such as Kurono's!
  • This Cannot Be!: His reaction to Dragon defeated by Arthur is utter disbelief a child could slay the dragon and cleanse the world's despair. This is followed shortly thereafter when Sho reveals that, just because his gravity powers can also draw in time- and thus he can somewhat keep up with Sho when he's using his abilities- it doesn't put him anywhere near Sho's level in manipulating time, as he demonstrates by FlashStepping right up to Faerie and stabbing him in the heart before he knows what's happened.
  • Villainous Breakdown: He goes through this when Shinra and Sho put a stop at this latest attempt to bring despair to Earth following Dragon's defeat.
  • Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe: Speaks like this compared to other characters.Makes sense when you realize he's hundreds of years old.
