DigiDestined

    In General
  • Adaptational Badass: In the original series, the DigiDestined (or Chosen Children in Japanese) would usually cheer and encourage their partners from a safe distance outside of a few occasions. This time however, they either mount their partners into battle or are in close proximity to them and would often direct them if need be, actively use their Digivices to empower them, or in some cases, even fight alongside them.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: They all go through this.
    • Tai in this setting is a slightly different type of courageous, as he is a lot less impulsive than his 1999 anime incarnation, and his determination to push forward is more focused than reckless. Additionally, instead of the Idiot Hero persona he's widely known for in the original Adventure anime, 2020 Tai's character better resembles his sensible tactical genius incarnation from Digimon V-Tamer 01.
    • The original Matt was more short-tempered as well as overly caring and protective of his teammates. In contrast, this version of the character is significantly colder: he always has a serious expression, rarely raises his voice, and is also more aloof and dismissive of the other kids and Digimon. However, this change to his personality ironically makes him and Tai clash a lot less than they originally did, as both of them can easily just come into terms if they have different approaches and choose to go into separate groups if needed.
    • This version of Izzy is incredibly shy and socially awkward, and even blushes often. While his previous incarnation was no party animal either, his personality flaws were actually the opposite of those, as he tended to be strong-headed and insensitive towards people around him rather than shy or timid.
    • Sora here is a heartwarming person from the get go, she bonds with Biyomon instantly and empathizes with other people’s troubles just as fast, all of this in contrast to her original incarnation who had to go through many steps to find herself in that role.
    • Joe is still cowardly and nervous in this series, but after joining the group, he becomes more extroverted and energetic than he ever was in the original, first seen when he gets overjoyed at the aloof Matt finally sharing some of his worries with them. He also seems to take himself far less seriously, and can even be a bit of a clown at times (although his obssession with studying is otherwise intact).
    • The original Mimi started off as a brat that had to grow into a more caring and kind person. In the reboot, while she still has her bratty moments, Mimi has a caring and sweet personality from the start.
    • T.K. was easily scared and prone to crying in the original due to being the youngest, and it took a long time and harsh events to make him braver. The reboot instead has him being quite courageous and determined from the beginning, even when faced with evil Digimon (he even told DarkKnightmon to move out of his way, something the original T.K. would have never done at such an early point), and is also more focused and concise.
    • This version of Kari is significantly quieter and more of an inner type of kid than the original, who could be pretty talkative and natural even when being ill.
  • Badass Adorable: They're willing to help their partners fight alongside huge Digimons and are on a mission to save Tokyo, but they're still cute young children. Special mention goes to T.K, being the youngest and smallest of them, but no less badass.
  • But Now I Must Go: As is typical of a Digimon Series, the DigiDestined return to the human world when their quest is complete. Only this time, their Digimon go back to live with them. The only exception is Tai and Agumon, who chose to stay behind in the Digital World.
  • Color-Coded Characters: As established in the opening:
    • Tai - Orange
    • Matt - Blue
    • Izzy - Purple
    • Sora - Red
    • Joe - Dark Grey
    • Mimi - Green
    • T.K. - Yellow
    • Kari - Pink
  • Costume Evolution: A meta example. To visually indicate this series is a Continuity Reboot with a Setting Update, the outfits of the DigiDestined hare given modifications. Some remain mostly the same with minor changes, like Tainote , Miminote , and Joe;note  some receive a full Palette Swap of their clothing from the old continuity, like Matt;note  and others get a full wardrobe shift, like Sora, note  Izzy, note  T.K,note  and Kari.note
  • Dub Name Change: Each of the kids are given their original English names in the dub (if they had them, of course). However, it's downplayed as the characters still go by their canon names, with their English names serving as an In-Series Nickname like the original series' dub had implied. Tai and Kari's surnames are still changed from Yagami to Kamiya, however.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Like before, all three of the girls have pink or reddish pink somewhere in their usual attire, and Kari's crest of Light is pink as always.

    Tai Kamiya

"Let's go! We're the only ones who can stop them!"
Kari's older brother. A kid who lives in the Tokyo suburbs, he's passionate and has a fierce sense of responsibility. When his mother and sister get trapped in a moving train that can't brake, he goes to Shibuya to help out, but somehow finds himself in the Digital World.

His partner is Agumon.
  • The Ace: Tai in this reboot is considerably more skilled in battle from the get-go, especially compared to his initially hotheaded original self. While the others certainly get their moments to shine, it's Tai that does most of the heavy lifting this time around and contributes to a good chunk of the group's victories. While Agumon is the one that does the actual fighting, the partner Digimon are powered by their bonds with their respective DigiDestined, and Agumon in particular benefits a lot from Tai's courage.
  • And This Is for...: While they never say it in the actual fight or episode, one of the reasons him and Greymon chose to took on MetalTyrannomon despite being largely outmatched, is to avenge Ogremon after his Heroic Sacrifice for the children.
  • Anime Hair: He has very large and very spiky brown hair.
  • Badass in Distress: When Argomon returns in episode 57, it captures Tai and creates several explosive copies of him as distractions, leaving Agumon to save the real Tai before Argomon chokes the life out of him.
  • Badass Normal: To help out Agumon, he uses an Argomon Baby to attack other Argomon, actually managing to delete some of them.
  • Bash Brothers: Him and Matt become this after the rest of the team is sent to the real world and they're the only two remaining children in the Digital World. Even before this, the two had shown to be this, such as when they teamed-up against Argomon in the start of the series and during the fight against Nidhoggmon.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He's very protective of Kari, which is shown right from the first episode. When he and Izzy go to the train station after hearing the trains are going berserk, they're blocked from going any further by the authorities, but what does Tai do when he hears Kari (And his mom) are in one of the trains? Don his signature goggles, leap over the turnstiles to the train station, and make a run to the tracks to help his family in whatever way he can. Keep in mind, this was all before he had Agumon, but that was not gonna stop him from trying to save his family.
  • Blue/Orange Contrast: He wears a blue top with orange shorts, giving him a more eye-catching look than the brown shorts of the original continuity.
  • Childhood Friends: He has been friends with Sora since childhood, and she sides with him immediately when they get involved with Digimon.
  • Composite Character: According to Word of God, this iteration of Tai has the personality of his incarnation from the original series, but also the calm and tactical mind of his V-Tamer incarnation. invoked
  • The Determinator: Time and time again, Tai proves he doesn't give up no matter how bleak things look. But two examples standout.
    • Even after the brutal beating he and Greymon receive from MetalTyrannomon, the two keep on fighting. It's what leads to Greymon's digivolution into MetalGreymon.
    • After Splashmon bites MetalGreymon's arm and drags him towards the miasma, what does Tai do? He jumps on MetalGreymon's arm and attempts to open Splashmon's mouth with his bare hands! Said action is clearly injuring him and he obviously can't pull it off, but he doesn't hesitate or stop for one second.
To take back the Holy Digimon and to save our world... That's why we came all the way here! We can't give up at a place like this! Right, MetalGreymon?!
  • Disney Death: After defeating Machinedramon, he and WarGreymon are caught on Machinedramon's cannons which hurl themselves into the Cloud Continent, seemingly killing them both in the process. However, the end of the next episode reveals them both to be alive and ready to kick Millenniumon's teeth in.
  • First-Name Basis: Within seconds of Izzy, Tai uses his first name. In English, he almost immediately starts using his nickname, with Izzy following suit.
  • Goggles Do Nothing: His iconic goggles. At first, Tai mainly wore them around his neck. But as he jumps over the train station gate, he quickly places the goggles on top of his forehead.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: Uses an Argomon (In-Training) as a weapon to attack other Argomon.
  • Hopeless with Tech: Tells Izzy that he's bad with technology, and his suggestion to fix Izzy's computer having bad connection is to whack it. However, he, at the very least, is able to keep up when Izzy explains tech-related stuff to him.
  • Hot-Blooded: Downplayed compared to the original anime, but it's still there. Tai often rushes headfirst into situations and he has impulsively put himself into danger several times to help others.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Just like the original series, he's the Red to Matt's Blue. This is specially more notable during their interactions in episode 10, where they butt heads over trusting Ogremon's advice, Matt thinking it's naive to trust the enemy but Tai thinking they should go where he pointed.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The daring and proactive Manly Man to Izzy's Sensitive Guy.
  • Walking the Earth: During the Great Cataclysm Arc, Tai's Digivice continually points to different destinations, leading him and Agumon in the middle of everyone else's adventures. It doesn't reach Spotlight-Stealing Squad levels however, as he doesn't even do that much in most of the arc's episodes; he just appears while the other kids are going through their endeavors and contributes to whatever's going on in the background. Lampshaded in episode 55, with Mimi asking "Why are you two here too?!" in response to them attending Babamon's school.
  • Worthy Opponent: Him and Agumon are seen as such by Ogremon after they broke his horn. He challenges them to a fight and makes sure that nobody will get in the way. Tai and Agumon accept the challenge and they even seem to be having fun in the fight. Ogremon also ends up aiding them to escape from MetalTyrannomon and opens a way for them to the Holy Digimon. Tai trusts him and is seen saddened by his apparent demise.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: In the fight against Machinedramon, Tai and WarGreymon, reasoning that the Holy Digimon are of utmost importance, fight Machinedramon alone while the others flee. While they do end up winning, they only barely scraped by, and this left an opening for Machinedramon, leading to them getting rocketed away with a self-destructing Machinedramon, taking Tai and WarGreymon out of commission.

T.K's older brother. A kid the same age as Tai, he's been investigating the Digital World by himself. He does everything he can to protect his friends, but as he prefers to act first and explain later, he's easily misunderstood.

His partner is Gabumon.
  • Aloof Ally: Doesn't team-up with the other children once they meet and tells them to just stay on the cave while him and Gabumon handle the enemy Digimons.
  • Bash Brothers: Becomes this with Tai after the other kids are sent to the real world, leaving only them and their Digimon in the digital world. Even before that, the two were shown to be this, particularly in the battles against Argomon and Nidhoggmon.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Unlike Sora and Joe, he's against helping Neemon and the Bearmon and Labramon and says they should just hurry to find the Holy Digimon. It's later revealed that he's in a hurry to find them because T.K. is in Tokyo during the energy crisis and he doesn't know if he evacuated the area or how he's feeling being there. It actually gets to the point he was more than willing to fight Orochimon by himself just to end the energy crisis, despite the fact that Orochimon effortlessly took down two Ultimate level Digimon earlier. One specific instance showing how strong his instinct is comes when Matt, before even taking his own safety into consideration, picks up his little brother T.K. and carries him to safety despite all the hazards. Later he is the only one to react and catch T.K. before he fell on the ground.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Alongside Sora and Joe in episode 16. The three arrive in the nick of time and save Tai, Izzy and Mimi from Eyesmon before all six team-up to take him on.
  • Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: Matt and Sora still share the same dynamic they had in the original 1999 series, where Matt keeps to himself while Sora treats him with kindness and respects his privacy. It's currently unknown whether or not they'll be the Official Couple again like they were before.
  • Defrosting Ice King: The more time Matt spends with the other DigiDestined, the more he warms up to them, especially during his time with Sora and Joe. The two are the first to know about T.K's existence, and what he means to Matt, and he starts to tolerate them a bit more.
  • Experienced Protagonist: Tai meets him in the Digital World, already riding on his digivolved partner Garurumon, by the end of the first episode.
  • Grin of Audacity: Interestingly enough, as the two fight Orochimon, Matt is the one with this expression, as opposed to Tai.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He acts cold and dismissive of the others, referring to them as deadweight, but once he sees them helping him and Gabumon against the other Digimon in the fortress, he acknowledges he couldn't have done it without them and apologizes.
  • Last-Name Basis: In the original Japanese, when telling him to stay with the others, he refers to Tai as simply "Yagami". He also refers to Koshiro as "Izumi" in their brief interaction in an earlier episode. In English, this still applies, just replace "Yagami" with "Kamiya".
  • Not So Above It All: Not during the actual series, as he acts the most cold and stoic member of the children, but he's still seen jumping around with a big smile alongside the others in the second ending.
  • The Power of Friendship: It's a stretch to call them "friends" in that situation as they've just met, but seeing all the other kids working alongside him to invade the fortress makes the Crest of Friendship in his Digivice glow, which in turn makes Garurumon stronger.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni:
    • Just like the original series, he's the Blue to Tai's Red. This is more notable during their interactions in episode 10, where they butt heads over trusting Ogremon's advice, Matt thinking it's naive to trust the enemy but Tai thinking they should go where he pointed.
    • Sora also plays the Red Oni to Matt's Blue Oni. Whereas Matt is calm and wants to continue the mission without any more unnecessary battles, Sora is often seen returning to the scene to save other innocent Digimon from being hurt.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: When the team split up the first time, he is the stoic and aloof Manly Man contrasting Joe's sensitivity.
  • The Stoic: Rather than slow down and just talk with others, Matt cuts straight to the chase on what he and the others need to know.
  • The Strategist: He comes up with methods to defeat enemies in just a few moments, such as leading Argomon’s grunts away while Tai and Greymon deal with the leader, or a risky close range attack against a Ultimate foe they can’t beat in a straight fight.
  • When He Smiles: We finally see him giving warm smiles to the other children in episode 17. Definitely shows he's warming up to them more and more.
  • You Are in Command Now: Before Tai's You Shall Not Pass! moment, Matt is briefly promoted to leader status until Tai returns from beating Machinedramon. Considering that Tai and WarGreymon suffer a Disney Death shortly afterward, this is naturally going to last a bit longer than either of them anticipated.

    Izzy Izumi

Voiced by: Yumiko Kobayashi (Japanese), Anne Yatco (English)
A boy who lives in the same apartment building as Tai. He's withdrawn, skilled at browsing the Internet and is good at gathering and analyzing information. He becomes friends with Tai due to the incident on the city loop line, and follows him into the adventure.

His partner is Tentomon.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Arrives just in the nick of time to save everyone in episode 9.
  • Guile Hero: After his laptop stops working, he becomes unable to make a good strategy due to relying on it so much, but after Kabuterimon reminds him of his own intellect, he becomes this full force, coming up with strategies to defeat the Kuwagamon and Oukuwamon.
  • Mission Control: Acts as this to Tai and Agumon in the first episode, directing the two to the swarms of Argomon that are causing the problems in the Human World.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The shy and reserved Sensitive Guy to Tai's Manly Man.
  • Shrinking Violet: Izzy is very shy when first meeting Tai, and immediately starts blushing after getting complemented. He blushes even when thinking about his relationship with Tentomon.
  • The Smart Guy: His pre-release bio says he's good at gathering and analyzing information, and calls attention to his Internet usage. Such as when he made a map to the location of the Holy Digimon and sent it to the other children's Digivices.

    Sora Takenouchi

Sora Takenouchi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sora_takenouchi_2020_1.png
Voiced by: Ryōko Shiraishi (Japanese), Cherami Leigh (English)
Tai's childhood friend. She acts like a big sister to the other girls in her class, and when she enters the Internet, she immediately sides with Tai.

Her partner is Biyomon.
  • Adaptational Badass: While always capable in the original anime, Sora was seldom in close proximity to Biyomon and her digivolutions when her Digimon partner was fighting on her behalf. In this series, she will often ride directly on Birdramon and personally be a part of her fiery attacks even when such power would normally be considered dangerous enough to burn any other person to a crisp (as Birdramon's human partner, it's assumed that she's naturally protected).
  • All-Loving Heroine: Fitting for someone with the Crest of Love, Sora always approaches every Digimon or person she meets with a friendly and kind behavior. Exemplified in episode 11, when she instantly decides to help Neamon and the Bearmon and Labramon, as opposed to Matt (Who refuses but comes back later) and Joe (Who takes more time to decide to help). She's also seen as a Cool Big Sis in her class and all the younger girls look up to her so this behavior isn't exclusive to the Digimons.
  • Bash Brothers: With Tai, taking care of the skies while he battles on the ground.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Alongside Matt and Joe in episode 16. The three arrive in the nick of time and save Tai, Izzy and Mimi from Eyesmon before all six team-up to take him on. Sora and Garudamon deserve special mention as they're the first to appear which also came with X-Treme Fight playing on the background.
  • Casting Gag: Her English voice actress previously voiced Biyomon in Digimon Adventure tri..
  • Childhood Friends: She's in the same class as Tai, and they've been friends even longer than that.
  • Cool Big Sis: She acts like a big sister to the other girls in her class, and all the younger girls look up to her. Even Biyomon is inspired by Sora which motivates her to fight.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype: Of the Chronic Hero Syndrome. Since the situation with Neemon's group as she insists on helping them, Matt notes that Sora priotized helping others over her mission as a Digi-Destined. It came to a head during the mission to awaken their Crests when Biyomon gets hurt while they were helping Junkmon. Sora overworked herself in assisting Junkmon while keeping Biyomon from hurting herself again, only to learn that she deeply upsets her partner.
  • Dragon Rider: Technically as Birdramon is both a bird and dragon type Digimon. During battle she often rides on her partner's talons to stay close to the action, successfully defeating Snimon and Coredramon by themselves.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Sora is shown to care a lot about any Digimon and is perfectly willing to put the mission she's in on hold until she can help them with any problems they have. She also helps them with their emotional problems such as when she inspired Biyomon to fight and when she approached a scared Funbeemon to comfort it. This puts her at odds with Matt at first but he later comes to accept that's how she is.
  • Silent Snarker: She'll usually engage in this alongside Tai since she'd prefer to not say anything to anyone's face.
  • Team Mom: She's the most mature girl of the team and as such she takes this role. Best shown in episode 10 when she calmed down Mimi during Tai and Matt's argument, and later when she followed the two outside the cave, presumably to make sure they won't start arguing again.

    Joe Kido

Joe Kido

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jou_kido_2020.png
Voiced by: Takeshi Kusao (Japanese), Daman Mills (English)
A boy a year older than Tai. He's completely obsessed with studying no matter where he is, as his middle school exams are soon. As the eldest, he constantly tries to keep the group together.

His partner is Gomamon.
  • Adaptational Comic Relief: While by no means devoid of comedy in the original continuity, Joe is much more prone to being a goofball and thrust into comedic situations than his more cautious and practically-thinking predecessor. This version of Joe also takes himself less seriously and often initiates goofy moments himself.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Joe is a far more goofy character than he was before. That said, when the chips are down, his sincere resolve makes him a reliable ally.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He believes he should be the one in charge of leading the group because he's the oldest. This side of him is fully shown in episode 15 with his determination to keep the wild Digimons from reaching an injured Sora, even refusing help from Matt and telling him to stay with her so she won't be left alone.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Alongside Matt and Sora in episode 16. The three arrive in the nick of time and save Tai, Izzy and Mimi from Eyesmon before all six team-up to take him on. Joe and Zudomon deserve special mention as they're the ones that saved MetalGreymon, Lillymon and MegaKabuterimon from one of Eyesmon's attacks.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: It takes longer than Sora but he also chooses to help Neamon and the Bearmon and Labramon once seeing the situation they're in.
  • The Determinator: While he wants to run away at first, after he's reminded by Ikkakumon of Sora's condition and how they must protect her, he becomes determined to stop Mammothmon and the Frigimon from reaching her, despite the two of them being outnumbered and a level below Mammothmon.
  • Guile Hero: After he sees Mammothmon's weight being enough to crack the ice underneath them, he quickly comes up with a plan for Ikkakumon to shoot the ground as the mammoth Digimon steps on it.
  • Nerd Glasses: He wears glasses, and is absorbed with studying.
  • Leader Wannabe: Joe believes he’s obligated to be the one in charge of leading the group as the oldest, but he doesn't have the nerve to actually try to enforce that. He tries introducing himself as such to Izzy only to be quickly shot down by Mimi. However, it's eventually slightly subverted as Joe proves himself at least capable of filling a leader role, and the other kids actually giving him said role.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Joe can be a whiner and a coward but he's proven time after time that he's no less capable than the other kids when fighting Digimon and is capable of helping his partner with some good strategies. A good example is when he and Ikkakumon are being chased by Mammothmon and the Frigimon. After being reminded by Ikkakumon of Sora's condition and how they must protect her, he turns dead serious and quickly comes up with a strategy to escape Mammothmon and then reunite with the group.
  • Lovable Coward: He sometimes tends to complain and whine a lot, but he'll always have his friends back in any way he can. One example is when Sora and Matt leave him and Gomamon on the ground to go fight the Canonbeemon, Joe has Gomamon digivolve to Ikkakumon so they can open a way for them by destroying the Waspmons.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: His nervous and timid personality can sometimes lead to amusing moments, especially when contrasted with Matt's aloof and stoic personality.
  • Power Nullifier: He was able to negate Mephistomon's dark aura by chanting historical, scientific and mathematical facts.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: When the team splits, he is the worrying and considerate Sensitive Guy contrasting Matt's masculinity.
  • Skewed Priorities: He prioritizes studying for future tests than going with Tai, Sora and Mimi to find the Holy Digimon at the start. It takes some convincing from Gomamon for him to change his mind. The fact he's currently stranded alone in a world full of monsters with no way out doesn't seem to bother him in the slightest.
  • Team Dad: He's the eldest member of the group, and tries to keep them together. He's not as assertive as the original Joe about this though, as seen when he is hesitant to stop Tai and Matt from arguing.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Attempts to wave a White Flag to announce that they surrender, thinking that the Digimon will stop attacking this way, only to almost be killed by a blast from Gorimon, just barely being saved by Palmon.

    Mimi Tachikawa

Mimi Tachikawa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mimi_tachikawa_2020.png
Voiced by: Marika Kouno (Japanese), Suzie Yeung (English)
A girl the same age as Izzy. She acts like a princess, always putting her own interests first. She complains a lot, and causes trouble when she tries to leave the unknown world. When there's something that she has to do, she won't stop until it's done.

Her partner is Palmon.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: In the original, her father was some sort of office worker, while here her grandfather is the CEO of Tachikawa Heavy Industries, who she is very close to and instilled her with a sense of responsibility the original Mimi lacked.
  • Adaptational Badass: In the original anime, Mimi had to grow into more of a fighter overtime and struggled a lot with it in the process. This version is more of a fighter from the beginning, likely owed to the difference in her background.
  • All-Loving Heroine: As long as they're not trying to kill her, Mimi always approaches the Digimon she meets with kindness and affection, which they gladly return as seen with the Tanemon naming her their queen and a Guardromon developing Undying Loyalty to her to the point he pulls a Heroic Sacrifice despite only knowing her for a few hours.
  • Benevolent Boss: With her kingdom with the Tanemons, and company with Golemon and the Gotsumon, unlike the original Mimi who brattily pushed around the Geckomon, here she takes care of their needs and keeps them safe.
  • Berserk Button: Thanks to her CEO grandfather imbuing her with the ideals of good business ethics, people who abuse or enslave their workers are this for her.
  • Determinator: Her pre-release profile says she won't stop until she's finished the things she has to do.
  • Friend to All Living Things: After she arrives in the Digital World, she's crowned as the queen of a village of Tanemon's and she treats them all with kindness and protecting them from invaders and even hesitates to leave the village and join Tai and Sora because she'd leave them unprotected and only does so when she's sure they can take care of themselves. She can also be seen making braids in Ikakkumon's fur and cleaning Gabumon's cheek, further showing her love for the Digimons.
  • Grade-School C.E.O.: An Honest Corporate Executive in training because of her grandfather, and she holds that company has two meanings, a business and a family.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: After Palmon digivolves into Ponchomon, Mimi is briefly shocked before deciding to just roll with it and MCs her Digimon in broken Spanish:
Mimi: I don't exactly understand... but let's do it! Mucho amigo jalapeño! The challenger... Ponchomon!
  • The Heart: Serves as this during the Darkest Hour when half of the kids are recovering from what happened the previous episode. Her words get through to everyone and encourages them to keep fighting.
  • It's All About Me: A downplayed case. According to her profile, she always puts her own interests before everyone else. However, she's willing to pitch in and leave the Tanemon group behind in her debut once she sees what the real world's going through (particularly her grandfather), and tends to be very kind and concerned for others when the situation calls for it. This might actually be a more positive example of the trope, as her own interests happen to involve protecting others even when there's a bigger threat on the horizon, which contributes to the group's bigger victories through The Power of Friendship.
  • Ojou: The granddaughter of an industry chairman.
  • Single Tear: After Guardromon's death. That, along with her anger, is what causes Togemon to digivolve to Lillymon.
  • Spoiled Sweet: Her family is pretty rich, but she's more or less a nice and caring 10 year old who doesn't mind having less rich friends around.
  • Team Mom: Not to the children themselves but she acted like this to a village of Tanemons that she was crowned the queen of.
  • This Is Unforgivable!:
    • After Guardromon is killed, she says she'll never forgive Andromon for that. This changes after he's beaten, as she comes to realize he was just as much a victim thanks to being Brainwashed and Crazy.
    • After discovering that not only has Gogmamon been enslaving Gottsumon but also eating them, she flies into a rage.

    T.K. Takaishi

Takeru "T.K." Takaishi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/takeru_takaishi_2020.png
Voiced by: Megumi Han (Japanese), Corina Boettger (English)
Matt's younger brother, though they live apart and have different last names because their parents are split up. He starts to have a strange intuition when the show begins.

His partner is Patamon.
  • Adaptational Late Appearance: Unlike the original continuity where he was part of the group from the outset, T.K. isn't with them initially here, instead left in the human world. Even then, Kari manages to get several appearances to show how the human world is affected, while T.K. doesn't even get that. Turns out there was a reason for that.
  • Distressed Dude: After Omnimon first appeared, he was transported to the Digital World and became an unknown captor for Devimon.
  • Feather Motif: Seems to share this with Kari. In the first ending, he is seen surrounded by white feathers and in "War Game", a white feather falls to his hand note  which triggers their crests and results in Greymon and Garurumon fusing together to create Omnimon.
  • Supernatural Sensitivity: According to his profile, he develops an intuition after the events of the first episode.

    Kari Kamiya

Tai's younger sister. She acts and talks like she exists in a different world to everyone else, and senses Tai's fight in the Internet.

Her partner is Gatomon.
  • Abled in the Adaptation: She shows no signs of the illness that left her unable to attend the summer camp with the other DigiDestined in the original Adventure.
  • Adaptational Badass: While she was already brave and determined in the original series, Episode 58 of this anime has Kari physically fighting enemies in order to protect the Digieggs, double-teaming with Gatomon a la pro wrestling and individually stomping on the baddies herself.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: She doesn't appear until much later in the original anime, while in the reboot, she appears from the start and actually has a fairly recurring role in the first three episodes.
  • Creepy Child: She willingly goes with SkullKnightmon and allows herself to be absorbed into their body rather than let Tai save her. Given how she was seemingly being guided to save Gatomon, there was reason for this.
  • Determinator: She makes the protection of the Digieggs her priority and fights personally for them.
  • Feather Motif: Seems to share this with T.K. In the first opening, a shadowed Gatomon runs past her with white feathers following her, in "War Game", a white feather falls to her hand note  which triggers their crests and results in Greymon and Garurumon fusing together to create Omnimon, and when she says goodbye to Tai, the shadow of a feather can be seen falling behind her.
  • Heroic BSoD: She spends most of episode 49 by herself crying due to her brother's Disney Death. A gentle pep talk from Mimi gets her mood back up.
  • Sensor Character: Related to her Supernatural Sensitivity, she can feel things like Millenniumon controlling Machinedramon.
  • Supernatural Sensitivity: According to her profile, she senses Tai fight in the Internet while she's in the human world. In fact, she thanks Tai after the first arc despite not being around during the fight period. This ability reflects her supernatural gift from the original series. This apparently has been part of her whole life given that she sensed her partner when she was a toddler.

Partner Digimon

    In General
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • In the original series, the Partner Digimon would revert to their In-Training forms anytime they use too much energy by digivolving to their Ultimate (and Mega in Agumon and Gabumon's case) forms. But after a while as the series progressed, they would become stronger and only revert into their default Rookie forms after digivolving further. That doesn't happen here though, as so far when they digivolve to Ultimate, they revert to their Rookie form. They also don't need Crests to unlock their Ultimate forms or in the case of Patamon, a Digimental to digivolve into Pegasusmon.
    • Each of the Mega levels have been given a massive size buff compared to how they were in the original series. For instance, while WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon were originally barely bigger than their partners, this time they're big enough to fit their respective children on their shoulders. Rosemon's even big enough to let Mimi ride on her head, despite normally being the smallest Mega level of the bunch.
    • In the case of Agumon, Gabumon, Patamon and Gatomon, they all get two proper Mega levels instead of just settling on a specific one (WarGreymon and BlitzGreymon for Agumon, MetalGarurumon and CresGarurumon for Gabumon, Seraphimon and Goldramon for Patamon, and Magnadramon and Ophanimon for Gatomon).
  • Adaptational Early Appearance:
    • With the exceptions of WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon, the other Digimon in the original series wouldn't reach their Mega levels until 3-6 years later In-Universe, with Seraphimon and Magnadramon debuting in "Transcendent Evolution!! The Golden Digimentals" and the other four not canonically appearing until Digimon Adventure tri.note . This meant that for the longest time, the highest most of the partner Digimon ever went in the original series was the Ultimate level. This time around, all of the Digimon get their Mega levels significantly earlier, during their first adventures in the Digital World.
    • Most of the Ultimate levels also count. Agumon wasn't able to go into MetalGreymon until the last episode of Etemon's arc, and everyone else unlocked their Ultimates at various points during Myotismon's with Lillymon and Zudomon in particular debuting near the arc's tail end. Here, MetalGreymon is achieved 10 episodes earlier than before with each of the other Ultimates sequentially following suit, well before they even encounter Devimon. MagnaAngemon slightly downplays this (see Patamon below).
  • Adapted Out: With the exception of Agumon, Gabumon, and Patamon, none of the main Digimon's Fresh or In-Training forms are shown. Even Agumon and Gabumon's are only shown as part of their Champion-level digivolution sequences.
  • Back from the Dead: In the past, Patamon and Gatomon served amongst the holy Digimon as Seraphimon and Ophanimon, while the other six were the greatest warriors in their army against the forces of darkness. All of them lost their lives by the time the war ended, and while they have lost their memories of their previous lives, Agumon and Biyomon start crying when they see Valdurmon's visions, apparently due to unconscious, ancestral memories.
  • But Now I Must Go: They go to the human world to live with the DigiDestined. The only excpetion is Agumon, who stays behind with Tai.
  • Dub Name Change: Like with their partners, if a Digimon had its name changed from Japanese to English, that dub name is retained. This goes for their later forms as well.
  • Sixth Ranger: Just like the original Adventure, Gatomon fills the role. Unlike last time, though, Patamon joins her as a co-Sixth Ranger. The two of them were members of the holy Digimon instead of being warriors like the other six, and the objective of the first arc is for the DigiDestined to venture to the Cloud Continent to find them.
  • Strong as They Need to Be: The partner Digimon rarely, if ever use a form stronger than their current opponents' digivolution level. Usually, it's Champion Vs. Champion, Ultimate Vs. Ultimate and so on. The only exceptions are when the big guns absolutely need to be brought out, such as with BlitzGreymon fighting MetallifeKuwagamon; if every fight were like that, each episode would consist of a massive Curb-Stomp Battle.
  • Transformation Sequence: Surprisingly averted. Despite being a staple of the series, their digivolutions into higher levels have happened on real time rather than this trope. Agumon and Gabumon's digivolutions play it straight though (and even then, their first times digivolving into higher levels averted it as well- with the only exception thus far being WarGreymon's debut).

"I finally found you, Tai!"
Tai's partner Digimon, a small yellow dinosaur who can breathe fire. He was a big deal in a war that took place on the old Internet. He seems to have met Tai before.

His Digivolutions are as follows:
  • Fresh: Botamon, a small black head with yellow eyes.
  • In-Training: Koromon, a floppy eared head.
  • Rookie: Agumon, his default form.
  • Champion: Greymon, a proper sized, blue striped, orange dinosaur who wears a horned helmet.
  • Ultimate: MetalGreymon, an even larger Greymon with red hair, tattered purple wings and a metal arm and helmet.
    • Mode Change: MetalGreymon Alterous Mode: An augmented form of MetalGreymon that changes his right arm into a massive fanged railgun from MetalGreymon X (Virus).
  • Mega:
    • Machinedramon (Mugendramon) (incomplete), a cybernetic hollow dragon made of mechanical pieces from various Ultimate Level Digimon and uniquely lacks any organic parts, born from a dark digivolution.
    • WarGreymon, a humanoid dinosaur covered in Chrome Digizoid armor with clawed glaives and beetle-like wing shields on his back.
    • BlitzGreymon, a cyborg subspecies of WarGreymon, instead equipped with large cannons on its back and plasma-shooting arm cannons.
  • Mega (Fusion): Omnimon (Omegamon), created from a fusion of Greymon and Garurumon with divine intervention from T.K. and Kari, a Holy Knight Digimon with tremendous power.

  • Adaptational Badass: In general, Agumon and his digivolutions have quite a bit more going for them than they did originally, and he's had considerably more solo feats under his belt to highlight the fact that he's The Hero's partner Digimon.
    • Whenever Agumon fought in the original series, he always relied more on his Pepper Breath attack to deal with enemies. This version is more adept in also fighting with his claws and teeth as seen in the first episode. He has also been shown using his Pepper Breath in more versatile ways, either as small fireballs or a continuous stream of fire. Combined with his agile movements and improved close combat skills, he proves to be a formidable Rookie level Digimon.
    • Greymon was undoubtedly a powerhouse in the original series, but he was a bit slow physically, something enemies occasionally took advantage of. This version of Greymon is surprisingly quick for a Digimon of his size and dinosaur-like build. He is able to run at fast speeds similar to a charging rhino or elephant, perform incredible leaps despite his bulk, fight an Aquatic Digimon in river and win despite it being in its element, take on about six Champion Digimon single-handedly, and thanks to his new athleticism, utilize his horns, teeth, claws and tail when fighting opponents, making Greymon an even more formidable Champion Digimon than he ever was before.
    • The original MetalGreymon was a slow behemoth that depended on his firepower and strength to defeat his opponents, and his lack of maneuverability was even occasionally capitalized on by enemies. In comparison, this new version is more of a Lightning Bruiser, boasting athleticism that borders on Offscreen Teleportation while having even more offensive power than his predecessor (Giga Destroyer is FAR stronger in this adaptation, serving as a finishing move capable of defeating opponents even bulkier than he is, and his new attack, Giga Storm, is a Wave-Motion Gun that serves as the new common attack for MetalGreymon to utilize). Those new abilities also allow for more technical attacks, using his arms, mouth and tail to perform Judo-style takedowns on Digimon his size, and enable him to keep up with opponents that are officially faster then him. His flying ability is also more pronounced in this new version than in the original, where those wings rarely got used. And that's without getting into its Alterous Mode, which gives it a new ranged weapon his original counterpart never had access to.
    • The original series had WarGreymon typically be around the size of a large humanoid and rarely performed a true Curb-Stomp Battle, even in his introduction, due to either sharing the spotlight with another fighter or facing major arc opponents. In 2020, WarGreymon is huge enough to fit Tai in his palms, and without even fully forming, drills right through the flurry Beam Spam of major arc villain DoneDevimon and slaughters him in that single strike. He even attains this form under his own power rather than having to rely on the incredibly specific and complex ritual like the original version did. In his first few appearances after fully attaining the form, WarGreymon proceeded to curb stomp if not outright one-shot each Monster of the Week he's put against. If that wasn't enough, his Gaia Force is a lot bigger and, through enough energy from the Digital World and everyone on it, can become even bigger (also resembling the Dragon Ball series' Genki Dama/Spirit Bomb in the process) and powerful enough to one-shot ZeedMillenniumon.
    • And of course, if all of that wasn't enough, he unlocked an entirely new digivolution that his original series counterpart never had, BlitzGreymon, granting him more versatility in the ways he can approach combat.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Not Agumon, but his dark digivolution Machinedramon. In the original, he was one of the series' villains, a violent dictator who callously slaughtered his men and helped warp the entire digital world. Here he's just the warped digivolution of MetalGreymon, born from his rage at Tai being eaten by DoneDevimon. He's still unhinged and malevolent, but now more of a maddened beast than an evil character.
  • Adaptational Wimp: The Machinedramon form shown in the series notably lacks its signature dual mega-cannons, although this might be because it wasn't completely formed. We see a proper Machinedramon in the Army of Darkness later, who turns out to be much more difficult to take out.
  • Adapted Out: Agumon's original Dark Digivolution, SkullGreymon, is completely absent from the reboot.
  • Arm Cannon: MetalGreymon Alterous Mode's right arm is transformed into one. Both of BlitzGreymon's arms are equipped with these.
  • Artificial Limbs: MetalGreymon's left arm is mechanical and much longer than his natural right. Its claw is even capable of firing out like a missile. In Alterous mode, its right arm becomes an Arm Cannon.
  • Attack Drone: Or in this case, Defense Drone. Instead of WarGreymon wielding his Brave Shield in hand like in previous series, he can mentally control the two halves to form a floating shield in front of him.
  • Bash Brothers: Much like their partners, him and Gabumon fit this trope. Agumon's digivolutions having a larger size and greater strength and Gabumon's digivolutions having more agility and greater speed allows them to complement each other nicely and they show some amazing teamwork when fighting together.
  • Battle Aura: While fighting Argomon Champion, Greymon becomes wreathed in an orange light.
  • BFG: MetalGreymon Alterous Mode dons the massive armcannon from Virus MetalGreymon X on his right arm that gives him enough power to even defeat Digimon stronger than regular MetalGreymon and WereGarurumon together with a well aimed shot. BlitzGreymon has two of these on his back.
  • BFS: According to Kenji Watanabe, MetalGreymon Alterous Mode can also use his railgun like a sword.
  • Blade on a Rope: One of MetalGreymon's attacks is launching his metallic claw white attached to a tether from his cybernetic arm.
  • Blood Knight: The kids notice that he seems to be having fun during his fight against Ogremon. He also admits that he wanted to finish the fight.
  • Blue/Orange Contrast: Like his partner; Greymon is predominately orange, but has blue stripes.
  • Breath Weapon: From Agumon upward, he can attack by spewing fire from his mouth.
  • Chest Blaster: MetalGreymon has two: Giga Storm is an energy blast, while Giga Destroyer are organic missiles.
  • Cool Sword: MetalGreymon: Alterous Mode can use the Alterous as a sword.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: After spending most of the fight in a receiving end of one, Greymon digivolves to MetalGreymon and turns the tables by delivering one against MetalTyrannomon. The fight after the digivolution basically consisting of MetalGreymon slicing through or dodging all of MetalTyrannomon's attacks while throwing him around the field like rag doll and then finally finishing him off by blowing him up.
  • Composite Character: In the original series, Machinedramon was a major antagonist and SkullGreymon was Agumon's Dark Digivolution. This series instead reworks Machinedramon into Agumons Mega level Dark Digivolution. Besides that, his MetalGreymon Alterous Mode and new laser weapons borrow from other Cyborg Digimon protagonists like WarGrowlmon and RiseGreymon. Slightly subverted when an actual Machinedramon shows up much, much later.
  • Cyborg: MetalGreymon has several robotic parts, including his arm, skull and chest. BlitzGreymon takes this further, being mostly cybernetic. Understandable, as it's a cyborg subspecies of WarGreymon.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: BlitzGreymon is a virus Digimon and, unlike Machinedramon, is on the heroes' side from the get-go.
  • The Determinator: Much like his partner, Greymon refuses to stop fighting against MetalTyrannomon despite being on the receiving end of a brutal Curb-Stomp Battle. This pays off as it allows him to digivolve to MetalGreymon and turn the tables.
    • He does it again against Crossmon and a horde of Allomon, even when Alterous Mode proves to not be enough. Once again it pays off, allowing him to digivolve to WarGreymon and reverse the curb stomp, obliterating Crossmon and the entire army of Allomon in one hit while also being able to No-Sell their attacks.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: WarGreymon is the one who ultimately defeats ZeedMillenniumon, by way of a giant Gaia Force fueled by the hopes of the Digital World and everyone in it.
  • Dinosaurs Are Dragons: Agumon and his digivolutions are dinosaur themed, and are capable of breathing fire. MetalGreymon pushes it further by growing wings.
  • Disney Death: Along with Tai, he (as WarGreymon) is caught in the explosion from Machinedramon's self-destruction. He's revealed to be okay, however.
  • Draconic Humanoid: Unlike his dinosauric lower digivolution's, WarGreymon is more human shaped and explictly described as a dragon warrior. As a subspecies of WarGreymon, BlitzGreymon also counts, though he's instead classified as a cyborg.
  • Dragon Knight: WarGreymon's profile describes him as a dragon warrior, and as WarGreymon he's more human shaped, clad in armour and uses a shield.
  • Energy Ring Attack: MetalGreymon's "Giga Storm" attack is sometimes depicted as twin orange beams surrounded by rings.
  • Energy Weapon: Machinedramon can shoot an enormous amount of lasers from his tail.
  • Extendable Arms: MetalGreymon's Trident Arm fires the claw of his metal arm out on a cable.
  • Fiery Salamander: From Agumon to MetalGreymon, his forms are fire-breathing dinosaurs.
  • Fireballs: His method of using fire attacks is expelling fireballs from his mouth. Agumon has Pepper Breathnote , while Greymon has Nova Blastnote . There's also WarGreymon's Terra Forcenote , which could be considered a mix between this and Sphere of Destruction. MetalGreymon is the only one who distinctly lacks such an attack.
  • Foreshadowing: His Ultimate digivolution sequence starts with a hologram of Machinedramon biting Greymon entirely before his transformation into MetalGreymon, hinting at the mechanical dragon being one of its dark digivolutions. To a smaller extent, the fact that Alteros Mode's cannon is derived from the Virus-type version of MetalGreymon X, which could be foreshadowing either of Machinedramon or BlitzGreymon.
  • Horn Attack: Greymon's horn is quite sharp. At one point, he nearly bisects a WaruSeadramon with it after little more than an added power boost from Tai despite a difference in level.
  • I'm Crying, but I Don't Know Why: After seeing the story of the war in ancient times, he starts crying but admits he doesn't know why. It's implied to be some kind of digital genetic memory, though.
  • Lightning Bruiser: During the fight against MetalTyrannomon, MetalGreymon basically flies around, at one point propelling himself into the sky as if he weighed nothing, while still being capable of parrying his enemy's strongest attacks and one-shot him with his own. Against Andromon, the latter specifically needs to use short bursts of speed to avoid his attacks, all while being completely unable to fight back despite being the same level, and MetalGreymon still catches him with a powerful blow that forces Andromon into fighting dirty.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: WarGreymon's wings are actually two halves of something called the Brave Shield. At least in this iteration, He can detach and telekinetically control them, instead of having to wield them in his hands. When being used properly, it can No-Sell attacks from other Mega Digimon.
  • Macross Missile Massacre: MetalGreymon pulls this off against DoneDevimon by spamming his Giga Destroyer.
  • Made of Iron: As both Greymon and MetalGreymon. Greymon being capable of surviving constant attacks from Digimon an entire level above him, and MetalGreymon enduring even more punishment from both vastly stronger Ultimates and even Megas. Quite literally the case with Machinedramon. WarGreymon is even tougher given proper use of the Brave Shield, capable of No Selling attacks from a mass of Armors AND a Mega at the same time.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Briefly delivers one of these to DoneDevimon after he dark digivolves into Machinedramon, at least before his opponent gets his bearings and starts turning the tables.
  • Non-Mammalian Hair: MetalGreymon has red hair sticking out of his metal helmet, as is also the case with WarGreymon despite being more humanlike.
  • Now That's Using Your Teeth!: During their fight, MetalTyrannomon attempts to shoot missiles from his left hand but MetalGreymon stops him from doing so by biting it. Machinedramon uses their own metallic jaw to rip through the wings of a retreating DoneDevimon in a much more gruesome manner.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: WarGreymon is a dragon warrior, but doesn't bear the normal signifying trait of having -dramon in his name and is mostly humanoid in shape.
  • Playing with Fire: His element of choice is fire based attacks.
  • Power Gives You Wings: His Ultimate level MetalGreymon has tattered purple wings emerging from his back, which allow him flight, even without needing to flap them.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: MetalGreymon's eyes turn red as a prelude to his dark digivolution into Machinedramon.
  • Shock and Awe: MetalGreymon's Giga Storm is a blast of lightning and fire. BlitzGreymon's specialty is this. He has Plasma Stake, a short-ranged blast of lightning from his hands and Thunder Vernier, a massive lightning burst from the massive cannons on his back. He can also use electricity to create barriers with Elec Guard.
  • Single-Stroke Battle: Effortlessly tears through DoneDevimon with a single charge after digivolving into WarGreymon.
  • Spectacular Spinning: WarGreymon's Brave Tornado has him spinning rapidly and hurtling towards his opponent.
  • Stealthy Colossus: Moves so quickly that he momentarily disappears from MetalTyrannomon's sight, having jumped high over its parried attack. Done in almost comedic fashion against Devimon to avoid his slashes by diving in behind rubble.
  • Strong, but Unskilled: Machinedramon isn't even fully formed yet viciously rips through DoneDevimon's wings and batters him to the ground with his sheer mass. Unfortunately, his fighting skill plummets from their prior form and he does nothing but trample and bite, eventually being outplayed into submission by DoneDevimon's sadistic fighting style.
  • Super-Empowering: Every time MetalGreymon starts digivolving into a Mega level to match the opponent, there is a brief window of time where he is covered by an orange or dark glow and manages to better hold his own against an opposing Mega before actually digivolving. Lopmon addresses the massive power of the DigiDestined's Digimon to their partnerships with the humans.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Machinedramon, servicing the role of SkullGreymon from the prior series, but created from Agumon's own rage rather than Tai's.
  • Tail Slap: Greymon smashes Argomon Champion with his tail twice in the first episode, and MetalGreymon does the same to MetalTyrannomon after cross-locking its arms with his mouth and trident hand.
  • Wave-Motion Tuning Fork: Alterous Mode replaces MetalGreymon's right arm with one of these. Rather odd since the Alterous is from the blue MetalGreymon's X-Antibody form.
  • The Worf Effect:
    • MetalGreymon is loosely considered the current team's ace Digimon, and while technically only ever losing to Orochimon, many of his fights were close calls and often needed an 11th-Hour Superpower to overcome. This is to hype up the terror of Devimon's army, as various heavy hitters like Velgrmon and Splashmon are realistically beyond the power of most Ultimate level Digimon, and inevitably will be opponents for Tai and Agumon.
    • Even WarGreymon sometimes goes through this. Since it's an absolute force to be reckoned with in this series, if it starts having trouble against the Monster of the Week, they're either way more powerful than usual ( Machinedramon from the Army of Darkness), or needs to be defeated through specific means (Zanbamon).
  • Your Size May Vary:
    • As in the original series, Greymon's exact size seems to vary, sometimes being enormous (though never building-sized, as he was occasionally in the original) and sometimes being small enough to be in equal terms with a mere tall humanoid like Ogremon.
    • Continues with MetalGreymon, and much more extremely. In his debut, he is multiple times larger than Greymon, so large that Tai is basically a spot on his head, but in Episode 14, he appears not much bigger than Greymon and only about 4~5 times Tai's size.

    Gabumon

Voiced by: Mayumi Yamaguchi (Japanese), Dave B. Mitchell (English, Gabumon), Christopher Swindle (English, Garurumon and above)
Matt's partner Digimon, a small, yellow, horned lizard wearing a fur coat. He understands Matt better than anyone else.

His Digivolutions are as follows:
  • Fresh: Punimon, a small read head with three blunt spikes at the top.
  • In-Training: Tsunomon (Tunomon), a fuzzy orange head with a spike at the top.
  • Rookie: Gabumon, his default form.
  • Champion: Garurumon, a large, white and blue wolf who excels in speed.
  • Ultimate: WereGarurumon, a humanoid Garurumon that excels in hand-to-hand combat.
    • Mode Change: WereGarurumon Sagittarius Mode. WereGarurumon grows larger and gains eight detachable Laser Blade wings that he can also use as weapons. MUCH faster than the base form.
  • Mega:
    • MetalGarurumon, a quadrupedal, cyborg wolf with a multitude of weapons within his armor.
    • CresGarurumon, a humanoid subspecies of MetalGarurumon clad in golden armor that instead wields a giant blade called the Kijū Engetsutounote .
  • Mega (Fusion): Omnimon (Omegamon), created from a fusion of Greymon and Garurumon with divine intervention from T.K. and Kari, a Holy Knight Digimon with tremendous power.

  • Absurdly Sharp Claws: His Kaiser Nail attack can effortlessly slice through other Digimon when used as a melee attack. It helps that the attack wreathes its claws in glowing energy, which it can also fire off for a ranged attack.
  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Gabumon wears a fur pelt shaped up from the data that Garurumon leaves behind.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • In the original series, WereGarurumon was one of the team's weakest Ultimate level Digimon due to lacking raw strength, ability and energy blasts. This version, meanwhile, is a physical powerhouse, capable of easily overpowering Scorpiomon as if it was an entire level below him, and whose Kaiser Nail now partially functions as an energy shot-type move. Additionally, his hand-to-hand fighting style is much more refined; in the original he was more of a savage brawler, whereas he now employs recognizable techniques from Karate and Kickboxing for neat effect. Finally, he now has access to energy wings and other incredible gadgets as part of his Sagittarius Mode, which he also attained under his own power, allowing him to regain the speed that his species loses after digivolving from Garurumon and giving him the best of both worlds at his disposal, while giving a taste of what MetalGarurumon is capable of.
    • Slightly downplayed with MetalGarurumon. At first glance, he appears to have the same capabilities and attacks that it did before, which were already pretty impressive. However, it's also much faster than it was before, able to rip Parasimon out of Machmon, Cocytus Breath it into oblivion, and then save Machmon from a deadly fall, all in what seemed to be a few seconds of in-universe time.
    • And of course, Gabumon gets a new digivolution in the form of CresGarurumon, giving him a lot more options to fight opponents with. He's even seen taking down a Zanbamon, which even WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon struggled against, in a Single-Stroke Battle.
  • Adaptational Late Appearance: In the original continuity, Agumon and Gabumon first became WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon at the same time while fighting VenomMyotismon. In the reboot, by the time MetalGarurumon is first achieved, not only was WarGreymon's first proper appearance 15 episodes prior to this event, but he'd unlocked BlitzGreymon as well beforehand.
  • An Ice Person: MetalGarurumon's speciality is either this or the Macross Missile Massacre. In particular is his Cocytus Breath, which is a stream of ice exhaled from the mouth capable of freezing most enemies solid. He demonstrates this by using it to one-shot Parasimon.
  • Badass Armfold: Has this pose as he sits on Zudomon's shoulder during the Big Damn Heroes moment in episode 16.
  • Barefoot Cartoon Animal: Downplayed. He wears only pants, not full clothes, but no shoes either, which becomes meaningful given that he's a martial artist Digimon now.
  • Barehanded Blade Block: During his fight against Scorpion, he stops the Digimon's stinger tail with his fingers before slicing it with his claws. Scorpiomon then tries using his claws but WereGarurumon just blocks them once again.
  • Bash Brothers: Just like their partners, he and Agumon are this. Gabumon's digivolutions are faster and more agile while Agumon's are larger and stronger, making them the perfect combo and taking care of each other's flaws, which is shown by their teamwork when fighting together.
  • Beam Spam: He blasts DarkKnightmon with one of these as WereGarurumon Sagittarius Mode by extending his wings in front of him and using them as laser cannons. MetalGarurumon fires off one of these with freeze-rays as part of his Grace Cross Freezer attack.
  • Boxing Battler: WereGarurumon strikes a high boxing guard to dodge Scorpiomon's attacks, although in a subversion, he then attacks with a flurry of lightning-quick high kicks.
  • Breath Weapon: He has Technicolor Fire breath attacks as both Gabumon and Garurumon. Gabumon has Blue Blasternote  while Garurumon has the longer-range Howling Blasternote . As MetalGarurumon he instead has the ice-based Cocytus Breath.
  • Canis Major: Garurumon is a wolf large enough for humans to ride on his back. MetalGarurumon is even larger.
  • Chest Blaster: MetalGarurumon unleashes his Garuru Tomahawk from a hatch on his chest.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • After he becomes WereGarurumon, he delivers one to Scorpiomon. He starts by stopping his attacks with his finger and then delivering a major asskicking before finishing him off.
    • MetalGarurumon handily delivers one to Parasimon after digivolving, ripping it right out of Machmon and obliterating it with a single Cocytus Breath before saving Machmon shortly after.
  • Cyborg: MetalGarurumon is one, being a mostly-mechanical wolf with a few organic parts.
  • Flash Step: WereGarurumon performs some to evade Splashmon's attacks.
  • Freeze Ray: MetalGarurumon's Grace Cross Freezer fires off more than a dozen of these in addition to a Macross Missile Massacre. Like the missiles, they're homing.
  • Golden Super Mode: CresGarurumon is decked out in gold armor.
  • Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: As WereGarurumon, he wears pants and a glove.
  • Hard Light: WereGarurumon Sagittarius Mode's wings become this when they're not Laser Blades, such as when he merges two of his blades to block an attack from DarkKnightmon or when he fires the blades out to form Improvised Platforms.
  • Homing Lasers: WereGarurumon Sagittarius Mode can fire these from his wings. MetalGarurumon makes homing Freeze Rays part of his Grace Cross Freezer attack along with the missile barrage.
  • Horn Attack: Gabumon's horn can be used in combat.
  • Jump Jet Pack: As MetalGarurumon, he has propellers built into his feet that give him extra speed when flying.
  • Ki Manipulation: WereGarurumon can use this to make Kaiser Nail become a ranged attack.
  • Laser Blade: While in Sagittarius Mode, WereGarurumon can detach his wings to form these. A pair of them even combine into a single blade as he clashes with DarkKnightmon. MetalGarurumon's wings can also function as this.
  • Lightning Bruiser: His digivolutions move quickly and hit hard. Tai even notes how fast Garurumon is and how he moves around the battlefield with much more speed and agility than Greymon. Taken even further with WereGarurumon, who attacks so fast his kicks become blurs and hits hard enough to completely crush Scorpiomon in combat.
  • Lunacy: In WereGarurumon's digivolution sequence, Garurumon is given power through the moon.
  • Macross Missile Massacre: MetalGarurumon's Grace Cross Freezer is storm of missiles from fired the hatches all over his body alongside a homing Beam Spam. He can also fire barrages of smaller missiles at any time.
  • Monster Knight: CresGarurumon is a knightly Wolf Man.
  • Morality Pet: The cold and aloof Matt acts in a much gentle and kind way (Although still aloof) to Gabumon, even giving him a high five while smiling.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Downplayed, as he knew of Matt's reasons, but he still goes along with him as he coldly refuses to help Digimon in need.
  • Nice Guy: In contrast to his partner, Gabumon is very friendly and easygoing with the others.
  • Noble Wolf: As Garurumon, he's a large wolf on the heroes' side.
  • Our Werewolves Are Different: WereGarurumon is an inversion of the "classic" warewolf, being the digivolved form of Garurumon, meaning he's a wolf becoming a werewolf as opposed to a man doing so. The "Were" in his name also serves as short for werewolf, further associating him with the creature.
  • Power Gives You Wings: When WereGarurumon goes into Sagittarius Mode, he gains eight wings and a massive speed boost. The wings can even be extended into cannons or detached to form Laser Blades.
  • Power Glows: As Matt's Crest of Friendship glows and makes Garurumon stronger, he's enveloped by a blue light.
  • Rocket Ride: As base-form WereGarurumon cannot fly, in order to get close to Velgrmon he surfs on one of MetalGreymon's Giga Destroyers.
  • Rugged Scar: WereGarurumon has one across his right eye and a curved one on his stomach.
  • Secret-Keeper: He knew that the reason Matt was in a hurry to find the Holy Digimon was because of T.K. being in Tokyo during the power outage. He tries to encourage Matt to tell the others, which he eventually does.
  • Shoulder Cannon: While in Sagittarius Mode, the top two wings can become these if he needs to attack at range while moving on foot. The other six extend from his back instead. MetalGarurumon can also fire missiles from the wings on his shoulder.
  • Speed Demon: "Activate, MetalGarurumon" reveals Gabumon's love of running which motivates him to challenge Machmon to a race.
  • Swiss-Army Weapon: WereGarurumon can put Sagittarius Mode's wings to a wide variety of uses. He can use them to fly at high speeds, fire them off to form Hard Light Stepping Stones in the Sky, detach them into Morph Weapons, or extend them to form laser cannons.
  • Sword Beam: Played with in that WereGarurumon can send arcs of energy out from his claws with Kaiser Nail when his isn't doing a melee attack instead.
  • Technicolor Fire: Garurumon's Fox Fire attack has him release a blue flame Breath Weapon from his mouth.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: WereGarurumon wears pants but no shirt.
  • Winged Humanoid: As WereGarurumon Sagittarius Mode he can have up to eight wings laser wings emerge from his back.
  • Wolf Man: When he digivolves into WereGarurumon he becomes a humanoid wolf. CresGarurumon is the same, but decked out in gold armor.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: He uses a Rolling Koppou Kick when fighting within CannonBeemon.
  • Your Size May Vary: WereGarurumon gets hit hardest with this throught the series. His size ranges from about twice Matt's height in his initial appearance to so large that Matt can stand on his shoulder and still be dwarfed by his head.

    Tentomon

Tentomon

Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai (Japanese), Christopher Swindle (English)
Izzy's partner Digimon, a relatively large ladybug who speaks in the Kansai dialect.

His Digivolutions are as follows:
  • Rookie: Tentomon, his default form.
  • Champion: Kabuterimon, a large, four-armed, blue beetle whose exoskeleton gives excellent defence.
  • Ultimate: MegaKabuterimon (AtlurKabuterimon), an even larger, four-armed, red beetle with even tougher defenses and a powerful horn.
  • Mega: HerculesKabuterimon (HerakleKabuterimon), an enourmous, four-armed, golden beetle with awesome defenses, an even larger horn and the pinsers of Kuwagamon.

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Kabuterimon was never a weak member, but was rarely able to accomplish much on his own and usually played the role of supporting fire. Here, Kabuterimon is strong enough to battle multiple Tylomon of the same level on his own, and his Mega Blaster was upgraded from an electric ball to a full beam attack that can even absorb the attacks of an entire army of Coredramon. This is all accomplished while also being tired from carrying Izzy across the Digital World.
    • MegaKabuterimon was always among the strongest Ultimate levels of the team, famously destroying a scaled down (yet still huge) planet that Vademon threw at him, but his 2020 version is still maxed up. Horn Buster is changed from a basic energy blast to a gigantic beetle horn made of explosive energy, which MegaKabuterimon uses to plow through an entire canyon as he subjects an already defeated Okuwamon to overkill, and the resulting explosion is just as wide as the planetary one from Adventure (only not as impressive due to reasons of terrain). In addition, this version of him seems more maneuverable, as the original sometimes suffered of being cumbersome in close quarters; in 2020 he amuses himself beating down Okuwamon with agile strikes and kicks before finishing him.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: His digivolutions are insect themed, but are much larger than the insects they're based on.
  • Blood Knight: Takes this attitude when fighting Kuwagamons and Oukuwamon, challenging one to see who's stronger and taking his fight against Okuwamon to a open space and even dragging on the fight.
  • Character Exaggeration: The original Tentomon was already humorous, but this series turns him into a jokester and a showoff. In Adventure, he usually acted as the straight guy to the excessively brainy Izzy, while 2020 reverses the situation and has Izzy being often perplexed by Tentomon's antics. He even clowns around while fighting, whereas the original usually became dead serious at those points.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • After he digivolves to MegaKabuterimon, he effortlessly defeats the small army of Kuwagamons that were giving Greymon and Togemon trouble. This is due to the fact that, despite him being outnumbered, he's still an entire level above them.
    • The only reason his fight as MegaKabuterimon against Oukuwamon takes longer than the other Ultimate Level fights is because he allowed it to drag on. Once he asks Izzy for a strategy while on a power struggle with his opponent and he's told to power on through, he wins the power struggle in no time and finishes off his opponent with a few strikes and one attack.
  • Energy Ball: Kabuterimon manifests his Mega Blaster into different sized electricity spheres, depending on the intensity he requires for his attack.
  • Eyeless Face: Kabuterimon does not have visible eyes, though still seems able to see.
  • Foreshadowing: When MegaKabuterimon blows up the ISS to stop it from hitting Tokyo, the aura of HerculesKabuterimon is glimpsed around him. This serves as foreshadowing for the actual digivolution itself, which happens in Episode 59.
  • Hand Blast: Kabuterimon can form smaller versions of Mega Blaster by creating them in a single hand.
  • Horn Attack: Unlike in original series, MegaKabuterimon's Horn Buster involves ramming his opponent with his horn, like how his reference profile describes. He also has a ranged version the attack where he fires a beam from the horn.
  • Just Toying with Them: Gives off this impression when fighting Okuwamon. He willingly takes the fight to a open space rather than being taken there by his opponent, and during their power struggle, he asks Izzy for a strategy while sounding like he's not putting much effort in said struggle at all.
  • Kabuki Sounds: Paired with his digivolutions, which when combined with his accent and Sumo Wrestling style, gives him a very traditional motif compared to Izzy's technology.
  • Lightning Bruiser: No pun intended, but despite his size, MegaKabuterimon moves and hits very fast. He delivers a very quick and strong No-Holds-Barred Beatdown against Okuwamon, and, as befitting to his huge size, he's also extremely strong, as shown by his Horn Buster attack easily plowing through an entire canyon.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Kabuterimon has four fully developed arms, unlike his regular form of Tentomon, who has a vestigial pair.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: MegaKabuterimon delivers one against Okuwamon during their fight.
  • Shock and Awe: Tentomon's Super Shockernote  and Kabuterimon's Electro Shockernote  unleash purple electricity.
  • Sumo Wrestling: In theme with beetles being seen as insect wrestlers, Kabuterimon often uses sumo terms and battle cries when he fights.

    Biyomon

Biyomon (Piyomon)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/piyomon_2020_1.png
Voiced by: Atori Shigematsu (Japanese), Tara Sands (English)
Sora's partner Digimon, a pink bird whose wings double as hands. She follows Sora everywhere, a bit like a baby.

Her Digivolutions are as follows:
  • Rookie: Biyomon, her default form.
  • Champion: Birdramon, a large bird with feathers made from fire, who is an expert in aerial battle.
  • Ultimate: Garudamon, a humanoid bird Digimon that combines fire power with immense physical strength.
  • Mega: Phoenixmon (Hououmon), a four-winged, golden phoenix with a Holy Ring on each leg.

  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Biyomon wears a grey anklet on one leg.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Birdramon was usually more of a long-ranged fighter in the original series and on rare occasions does she get up close to attack with varying results. This version, though smaller in size, appears to be even more versatile, and she's given a new attack which covers her entire body in flames (yet which doesn't damage her riders).
    • Garudamon in 2020 not only continues her legacy as the largest Ultimate Level of the team, but this version has absolutely immense physical strength, not only able to pry apart and carry a house sized section of the absolutely gigantic CannonBeemon, but also fly higher while doing so. For comparison, WereGarurumon was trapped in said section, and MetalGreymon was briefly impeded by having to hold up the roof of a collapsing factory. Shadow Wing is able to overpower CannonBeemon's energy blast; which was just shown to blow a molten hole in a mountain.
    • Phoenixmon continues the trend before even getting a proper fight yet. Its first canon appearance in Digimon Adventure tri., while impressive in its own right, required assistance from Seraphimon and HerculesKabuterimon to help take down a revived Machinedramon, and couldn't do any meaningful damage to Raguelmon even with help. Here, she is casually capable of stopping a volcanic eruption without even using an attack. Rather she seems to telekinetically pull the volcano's entire magma chamber into the sky and magically cool it into a miles tall tower of shining crystal. In addition, she's later seen using her Starlight Explosion to bring back the souls of several deceased Digimon, whereas normally it's only an offensive attack with purifying properties. In short, Phoenixmon is portayed this time around as a literal force of nature.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Phoenixmon in the reboot is the fifth Mega level showcased (sixth if you count BlitzGreymon), appearing after Goldramon and Magnadramon. Compare this to Digimon Adventure tri. where, due to the 02 movies being counted as canon, Phoenixmon was the last of the original DigiDestined's Mega levels to appear. As another notable example, this change also means that she appeared before Seraphimon instead of three years after him.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: While still a nice Digimon most of the time, this Biyomon reacts quite badly to being emotionally pressured, to the point of telling Sora that she hated her during a discussion, although this clearly comes from Biyomon's insecurity and not out of genuine meanness. In contrast, the original Biyomon was sweeter and more mature and would have absolutely never reached that extent (outside of a literal reboot, that is).
  • Adaptational Wimp: While the original was brave and cheery by default, this version of Biyomon starts insecure and fearful, even a bit of a Nervous Wreck, needing Sora to lend her emotional comfort when in the original their roles were usually reversed. She ultimately shakes it off in this continuity too, but never really comes to match the original in pluckiness.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: Unlike the cheery original Biyomon, this version of her is shy, nervous and easy to scare, as well as very insecure, and it takes Sora's emotional strength to make her feel confident. She still reverts to her flustered self if Sora is endangered beyond her power to act about it.
  • Battle Aura: Birdramon glows with a red light when attacking in the opening. Garudamon has one as well that, combined with its physical strength, lets it easily tear through Cannonbeemon.
  • Beam-O-War: Garudamon engages in one against CannonBeemon and wins.
  • Bird People: Garudamon is an enourmous feathered humanoid, with talons for hands and feet.
  • Breath Weapon: Biyomon unleashes her Spiral Twister note  from her beak.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Garudamon trounces CannonBeemon in their fight. Starting the fight by effortlessly knocking it's missiles aside, which is followed by a Beam-O-War that she wins in little time.
  • Facial Markings: The top of Garudamon's head is covered with a blue design.
  • Feathered Dragons: The -Dramon in Birdramon's name marks her as a dragon, so her entirely avian apperance makes her one.
  • Feather Flechettes: Birdramon's Meteor Wing projectiles are her burning feathers.
  • Goomba Stomp: Garudamon performs one on Cerberumon, smashing into its head with both feet with enough force to stop it from attacking Pegasusmon.
  • Hand Blast: Garudamon can unleash fire blasts from her hands.
  • I'm Crying, but I Don't Know Why: Much like Agumon, after seeing the story of the war in ancient times, she starts crying but admits she doesn't know why.
  • Light 'em Up: Phoenixmon's Starlight Explosion is an annihilating blast of golden light.
  • Lightning Bruiser: As fitting to her huge size, Garudamon is a physical powerhouse and easily knocks aside CanonBeemon's missiles without much effort, as well as lift a house sized section of said Digimon and still fly while doing so. As shown by her movements while flying, she isn't lacking in the speed department either.
  • Non-Mammalian Hair: Garudamon is a bird person, yet has blond hair.
  • Off with His Head!: It's how Garudamon killed CannonBeemon.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: The -Dramon in her name marks Birdramon as a dragon, but her only real draconic trait is her teeth.
  • Playing with Fire: Birdramon's Meteor Wing has her attack with streams of fireballs from her wings. Garudamon's Shadow Wing is a massive blaze of bird-shaped fire that can even overpower mountain-shattering laser blasts.
  • Polly Wants a Microphone: She can talk in all her digivolutions, which are avian-themed.
  • Toothy Bird: Birdramon has some impressive teeth, fitting its status as a -Dramon Digimon.
  • Wreathed in Flames: Birdramon now has the ability to cover her body in fire to attack the enemy head on, as seen in episode 5 to break through the webbing of several Dokugumon, and in episode 11 to destroy a dust devil, along with the SandYanmamon that created it.
    • Garudamon can also modify her Shadow Wing attack to combat proximity enemies, just ask the three Megadramons who decided to dogpile her in Episode 30.
  • Your Size May Vary: Like Greymon's, Birdramon's size varies a bit depending on the scene, although she is consistently smaller than her original version.

    Gomamon

Gomamon

Voiced by: Junko Takeuchi (Japanese), Alex Cazares (English)
Joe's partner Digimon, a seal with purple markings and a red mohawk. He helps his partner with whatever he attempts, one way or another.

His Digivolutions are as follows:
  • Rookie: Gomamon, his default form.
  • Champion: Ikkakumon, a large, white-furred horned walrus with a horn that instantly regrows.
  • Ultimate: Zudomon, a gigantic humanoid walrus that wears a turtle-like shell on his back.
  • Mega: Vikemon, an enormous, furry humanoid walrus clad in viking attire and carrying two morning stars on ihs back.

  • Adaptational Attractiveness: While the original Zudomon had a borderline Slasher Smile as default expression and never really changed it, this one can strike a cuter, happier cat smile resembling Gomamon's.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Originally, Gomamon's Marching Fishes attack had the limitation of only being usable if near a body of water (although this occasionally included improbable examples to work around it). In this version, he seems capable of summoning them out of thin air in midst of a sandy terrain.
    • Zudomon in the original was always armed with his hammer and largely relied upon it. Here, the weapon is only summoned for a Finishing Move; this Zudomon is actually capable of overpowering Mammothmon with a single, unarmed hand, and also kills four Frigimon in one slash from his claws (not even a named attack, just a casual swing). Hammer Spark also seems to directly channel electricity into the enemy rather than be an arrow-like projectile, though it can still be the latter if need be. He can also create shockwaves with it.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Being outnumbered doesn't stop Zudomon from dishing this out in his debut appearance. He starts by killing four Frigimon with a single casual swing from his claws, and when he takes on Mammothmon after that, the fact they're on the same level doesn't do the mammoth any favors as Zudomon quickly and effortlessly swats aside his attack and knocks him down to the lake with a single punch. When his opponent attempts to attack him after that, Zudomon summons his hammer and overpowers his attack in short time before finishing him off.
  • Cute Little Fangs: As Gomamon. They become huge walrus tusks in his stronger forms.
  • The Determinator: When faced against a Mammothmon and four Frigimon, Ikkakumon is not only outnumbered but also a full level below Mammothmon, but he still chooses to stay and face them so they won't reach Sora while she's injured. Even after Joe says they cannot do it, he still chooses to stay and fight, inspiring Joe to do the same.
  • Energy Weapon: Zudomon fires a beam at Machinedramon as part of a Combination Attack with the others. It comes from somewhere around his upper body, but the angle and Zudomon's pose make it impossible to tell whether it's a Hand Blast or a Chest Blaster. It's clearly not the ranged version of Hammer Spark as he's not holding his hammer at the time.
  • Facial Markings: Gomamon's face is covered with purple markings.
  • Hammerspace: No way of knowing where his Marching Fishes come from. Or Zudomon's hammer, for that matter.
  • Head Blast: As Ikkakumon, he can fire horn-shaped missiles from his head.
  • Heroic Build: Zudomon is incredibly muscular and has the strength to match that build, as shown when he lifted and threw down the huge Mammothmon with very little effort.
  • Horn Attack: Ikkakumon's primary attack is his Harpoon Torpedonote , where he fires his horn off his head that releases a heat seeking missile. During the fight with Machinedramon, Zudomon also does a charge attack with a glowing horn.
  • An Ice Person: This series' incarnation of Vikemon's Arctic Blizzard is an icy whirlwind powerful enough to hurl Olegmon into the air.
  • If It Swims, It Flies: In the network space, while Palmon has to wrap her vines around Tentomon and/or Biyomon to keep up, Gomamon can swim through the air like water.
  • Lightning Bruiser: While a Mighty Glacier when on land, Ikkakumon moves fast and hits heavy when underwater.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: As said in Heroic Build, Zudomon is very muscular, and as a result of that, he's one of the physically strongest of the kids' Digimon, easily overpowering and knocking down the similarly massive Mammothmon.
  • Nice Guy: Probably the nicest of the Digimon partners. He's always supporting or concerned about Joe no matter what. A good example is when he announces himself as the leader, Mimi is questioning him but Gomamon can be seen clapping at him.
  • Perpetual Smiler: As Gomamon, he perpetually has a cat smile. Zudomon also smiles this way
  • Shock and Awe: Zudomon's Hammer Spark unleashes an electric blast when it slams into something. He also has a ranged version of the attack, which fires electrified beam from his hammer.
  • Spin to Deflect Stuff: Zudomon spins his hammer to block one of Orochimon's water blasts from hitting MetalGreymon.
  • Summon to Hand: Zudomon is now capable of doing this with his hammer rather than always being armed with it. He even uses it to get a second hit in after throwing it.
  • Sweet Seal: An adorable fur seal who is always supportive of his human counterpart.
  • Sycophantic Servant: Gomamon invokes this for laughs towards Joe, though part of it is genuine.
  • Warm-Hearted Walrus: All three of his digivolutions are based on walruses and he retains his supportive personality when transformed.

    Palmon

Palmon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/palmon_2020.png
Voiced by: Kinoko Yamada (a.k.a. Shihomi Mizowaki) (Japanese), Corina Boettger (English, regular forms), Alejandro Saab (English, Ponchomon)
Mimi's partner Digimon, a green lizard-plant hybrid. She loves Mimi, and declares herself as her bodyguard.

Her Digivolutions are as follows:
  • Rookie: Palmon, her default form.
  • Champion: Togemon, a large cactus wearing boxing gloves, who can attack in every direction.
  • ???: Ponchomon, another cactus, this time in a poncho and a large sombrero. Can box in her own beat.
  • Ultimate: Lillymon (Lilimon), a fairy like being made of cherry blossoms and thorny vines who can fly and fire pollen and seeds from her arms.
  • Mega: Rosemon, a rose-themed plant woman who wields a whip and rapier.

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • In this series, Palmon can extend her Poison Ivy to incredible lengths in order to form convoluted, long-range traps, while in the original its vines were mostly used for simple grapples. She can also stab opponents with the tip of her vines, being able to even destroy minor Digimon by this way, when in the original she didn't have a direct offensive move.
    • Togemon has been heavily scaled-down, being now only a bit more than twice Mimi's size while the original could have her sitting on her fist - yet she retains all of her strength, if not even more, as seen in her debut when she defeats a Drimogemon several times larger than her. Also, possibly as a consequence of this, she is much more agile and can perform enormous leaps and dodges.
    • Lillymon is much more powerful and versatile in this series. While her original Flower Cannon was a single energy shot, this one can fire multiple iterations at high speed, and it has the added effect of spawning parasitic vines upon impact, which can extend from their positions to trap and drain the opponents (even Metal Digimon). She can also spam flower petals around the battlefield to use them as chaff. In addition, whereas her first battle as Lillymon in the original was against the Champion DarkTyrannomon and ended with her being curb-stomped by fellow Ultimate-level Myotismon, her first battle this time is against another Ultimate, Andromon, which she proceeds to curb-stomp. Likewise, she's shown to be able to use her Flower Cannon in its unbloomed state as a Gurren Lagann-esque drill! And it obliterates Gogmamon! She can also fire a continuous beam from the cannon, which she does as part of a Combination Attack against Groundramon.
    • Even Ponchomon qualifies for this trope, despite not appearing in the Adventure canon. In the first Digimon Tamers movie, Battle of Adventurers, it was a minor threat that was quickly disposed of by the Champion-level Growlmon. Here however, it's a Dance Battler that makes short work of Etemon and Volcamon, both of which are Ultimate-level.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: While the other Ultimate levels qualify for this trope, Lillymon is a more specific example. In the original series, she's the fifth Ultimate level achieved and by this point, Biyomon and Tentomon had long since been able to go into Garudamon and MegaKabuterimon respectively. This time around, she's the third Ultimate level with her debut episode coming right after WereGarurumon's, and Garudamon and MegaKabuterimon's episodes aired right after hers.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Not Palmon herself, but Ponchomon, who had appeared as a minor minion under Mephistomon in the first Tamers movie, while in this continuity it's an alternate digivolution for one of the heroes' Digimon.
  • Arm Cannon: Lillymon's Flower Cannon is a barrel formed from the petals around her hand.
  • Ascended Extra: In general, despite Ponchomon having an association with Patamon due to being one of its Armor forms, it's typically been used as a minor background character. Obviously, that's no longer the case here.
  • Battle Butler: While Mimi was serving as the queen of the Tanemon kingdom, Palmon acted as her butler.
  • Boxing Battler: Togemon wears red boxing gloves, and fights physically with punches. She also uses the Coconuts Punch attack a lot more often than her original counterpart. Her debut in this series even has her using the even more rarely used Coconuts Upper as her finisher. This carries over to Ponchomon, who combines this with Dance Battler.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • Her fight as Lillymon against Andromon is this on her favor. He fails to land a single attack on her as she effortlessly dodges his missiles while taunting him. She finishes the fight off by trapping him in parasitic vines.
    • Her debut fight as Ponchomon also goes similarly. She effectively nullifies both Etemon's and Volcamon's soundwave based attacks with her own, and easily dodges all their attacks, even causing them to hit each other. She finally ends it by striking Etemon and Volcamon with two Tequila Knuckles to their chest.
    • This seems to be a running theme about her Ultimate and above forms' debut fights, because Rosemon follows suit by stomping BanchoMamemon, proving to be able to No-Sell its attacks and defeating them with basically no effort whatsoever.
  • Dance Battler: Ponchomon dodges Volcamon and Etemon's attacks with dance moves.
  • Fairy Sexy: As usual, Lillymon and Rosemon are very pretty Digimon with Rosemon being as much of a Ms. Fanservice as ever.
  • Kick Chick: Lillymon kicks Andromon in the head during their fight. It's specially notable as that's her only physical attack during the fight.
  • Lightning Bruiser: While Togemon was fighting Drimogemon, she demonstrates quick movements with not just her punches but her jumps and spins, topping it off with an uppercut strong enough to bend Drimogemon's drill-nose.
  • Made of Iron: Lillymon has an entire airplane crash into her and explode thanks to Eyesmon's summoning. Just like her gigantic allies though, she is more blown back than hurt, which is especially impressive given she doesn't have any armor like MetalGreymon or Megakabuterimon do.
  • More Teeth than the Osmond Family: Ponchomon has two rows of Tokomon-esque teeth.
  • Multi-Directional Barrage: Togemon's Needle Spray note  is an omnidirectional assault of cactus quills, though she can focus the direction they fire on.
  • Ojou: During Rosemon's Digimon Encyclopedia segment, Palmon does a Noblewoman's Laugh before declaring that Izzy will now call her "queen". She was likely teasing him.
  • Plant Person: As can be seen in her artwork, Palmon is essentially a humanoid flower.
  • Power Gives You Wings: Her Ultimate level of Lillymon has four wings.
  • Our Fairies Are Different: Lillymon is a Fairy Digimon - with leaf-like wings, grass like hair and seems to be wearing clothes made of flowers.
  • I Shall Taunt You: During Lillymon's fight against Andromon, as she effortlessly dodges his missiles. She mockingly asks him where he's aiming at.
  • Spike Shooter: Togemon's Needle Spray is an omnidirectional assault of cactus quills.
  • Trap Master: Palmon has made use of her Poison Ivy to set up complex traps for the thieves stealing the kingdom's fruit, ending up with her catching the Tai and Sora instead. Later on, they set up another one to deal with the Tuskmon pack.
  • Vine Tentacles: Palmon's attack Poison Ivy uses a vine to whip an Eyesmon: Scatter Mode. Rosemon also uses a vine whip for her attacks.
  • Winged Humanoid: Lillymon is humanoid and has four leaf shaped wings.

    Patamon

Patamon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/patamon_2020.png
Voiced by: Miwa Matsumoto (Japanese), Lizzie Freeman (normal and Pegasusmon, English), Chris Hackney (Angemon and above, English)
T.K's partner Digimon, a mammal with wing-like ears. Like Agumon, he was involved in a battle in ancient times in his digivolved form.

His Digivolutions are as follows:
  • Fresh: Poyomon, a tiny, jellyfish-like blob creature with a face.
  • In-Training: Tokomon, a tiny pink walking head with lots of teeth.
  • Rookie: Patamon, his default form. A small hamster-like creature with wings where his ears would normally be.
  • Champion: Angemon, the greatly revered Holy Digimon whose power vastly exceeds their own level.
  • ???: Pegasusmon (Pegasmon), a pegasus wearing golden armour emblazoned with the Crest of Hope, a alternate digivolution from Patamon taken on after exhausting Angemon's power.
  • Ultimate: MagnaAngemon (HolyAngemon), an Archangel garbed in parchment with eight silver wings and a sword mounted on his wrist.
    • Mode Change: MagnaAngemon Priest Mode, a fully-robed version of MagnaAngemon that appears briefly during Seraphimon's digivolution sequence.
  • Mega:
    • Seraphimon, clad from head to toe in blue and silver armour, sporting ten golden wings.
    • BlackSeraphimon, a corrupted version of Seraphimon with ten bat wings briefly glimpsed as Patamon remembered degenerating in the darkness.
    • Goldramon (Goddramon), a multi-winged, golden dragon with a Holy Ring around one arm.

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Despite already being almost story-breakingly powerful in the original Adventure, Angemon in 2020 is so much more powerful that they're considered a legend to the setting. As if he wasn't strong enough on his own, his holy aura alone now passively heals his ally Digimon and empowers them enough to easily destroy Velgrmon, who had just defeated them with minimal involvement. In the original series, those two powers had only been associated with Angewomon and MagnaAngemon, who are both of them a whole level over him, and the casual, even incidental nature of their usage by Angemon implies that, even if Velgrmon is very strong for a Ultimate level, Angemon is just leagues beyond him. He also seems to have the unique ability to teleport both allies and enemies away (which also devolves them and uses up his own energy in the process) by focusing on his power and expanding his wings.
    • In all other continuities, Tokomon was a regular In-Training Digimon who could only bite his opponents and shoot bubbles. This particular Tokomon, however, can actively summon his line's power in order to create a massively strong energy shield, like a maxed-up version of MarineAngemon's Kahuna Waves.
    • In the original series, Patamon's Air Shot attack was just a moderately strong mouthful of air, which was only situationally useful to push other small Digimon away and/or deflect small projectiles. In this version, the attack is a solid-looking air bullet, which can knock away much bigger Digimon even at long ranges and also seems to have a minor explosive effect.
    • In 02, Pegasusmon was but a transport armor Digimon who, while competent enough to take on Champion Digimon to get rid of their Dark Rings (Ultimate-level less so), was only useful when battling 'fake' Digimon as Angemon's attack did not work on them in 02. Here, from its debut alone, it can kick off two Champion Digimon and then raze them with Silver Blaze at ease, fly at high speed, and even deliver a high-spinning kick (Rodeo Gallop) to intercept an attack of a Ultimate-level Digimon of all things. It still has help from its Ultimate-level allies, but by that point, pushing the enemy to its edge is an accomplishment in its own right.
    • And none of this is even getting into Goldramon, a form that completely dwarfs all other Digimon shown on the Heroes' side thus far, with the exception of his holy partner Magnadramon. For clarification, Goldramon and Magnadramon are able to go toe-to-toe with Millenniumon!
    • Seraphimon is much stronger than his original and Frontier incarnations, able to Beam-O-War Deathmon with just one of the shots from his Seven Heavens and No-Sell its other attacks. It's safe to say that Seraphimon's jobbing days are over.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance:
    • Pegasusmon in the original continuity appeared in 02, which takes place three years after the original, as Patamon's Armor Digivolution. Here it's Patamon's alternate digivolution after he could no longer access Angemon's powers during the DigiDestined's first adventure.
    • MagnaAngemon as well. While it's still the last Ultimate level to be achieved, the original MagnaAngemon appeared near the end of the 1999-2000 Adventure series, during the tail end of the fight against Piedmon and right before the fight against Apocalymon. This time however, it appears quite a ways before the end of the reboot's first season, now appearing in episode 46 (out of 66) as opposed to 52 (out of 54) in the original.
  • Adaptational Late Appearance: Downplayed for Seraphimon. While he's unlocked significantly earlier than he was in the original continuity, he's among the last two Mega levels to be achieved alongside Ophanimon, well after Magnadramon was introduced. The original had him appear alongside Magnadramon long before Phoenixmon, HerculesKabuterimon, Rosemon or Vikemon were obtained.
  • Adaptation Origin Connection: Devimon had always been officially a corrupted Angemon, but the one featured in this series turns out to be nothing less than a Literal Split Personality of Angemon's darkness.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: Like T.K. himself, Patamon in this series is much more serious and concise than in the original.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Not himself, but rather MagnaAngemon's black-armored left arm. This detail had never been given any attention in previous continuities, but here it's implied that its black color comes from representing Angemon's inner darkness, as he is seen thinking on Devimon's words while looking at his hand.
  • All Your Powers Combined: How the form of Goldramon is acccessed. The hopes of the other DigiDestined unlock this digivolution from MagnaAngemon, as well as Gatomon's counterpart, Magnadramon.
  • Ascended Extra: Patamon can digivolve into Goldramon as of episode 50, which is one of the Four Great Dragons alongside Magnadramon but is otherwise completely underutilized in most media. To wit, Goldramon goes from being a relatively minor Digimon despite its status to being one of the DigiDestined's partners.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Goldramon is massive, to the point where even WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon look like ants compared to it. It's comparable in size to Millenniumon, whose claws dwarf mountains.
  • Badass in Distress: When the DigiDestined first encounter him, he's been held hostage by Devimon for years at this point, and had been slowly losing his power as a result.
  • Barrier Warrior: Tokomon creates a rainbow shield to defend himself and T.K. from DoneDevimon's attacks.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: MagnaAngemon has a purple Laser Blade mounted on his wrist.
  • Blow You Away: Angemon can create whirlwinds by spinning his staff.
  • Composite Character: He and Devimon were once a single being, unlike the original series where Devimon was just a strong Champion Angemon was a direct counter to.
  • Cool Helmet: After digivolving from Patamon, his digivolutions cover their heads in progressively fancier helmets.
  • Cool Sword: MagnaAngemon has a wrist mounted Laser Blade.
  • The Corruption: Devimon kept him immersed in a concentrated form of the miasma for an unknown amount of time. He was stuck in there as Seraphimon and when that form was corrupted to BlackSeraphimon, he reverted to Angemon to slow it down.
  • Discard and Draw: After exhausting the remaining powers he had as Angemon, Patamon instead gains the ability to digivolve into Pegasusmon.
  • Deus Exit Machina: Since Angemon is so much more powerful in this version (including being able to digivolve Agumon and Gabumon into Omnimon), Pegasusmon has to eventually become his default digivolution to allow him to participate in fights. Angemon does eventually return in episode 41, however.
  • Dragons Are Divine: Goldramon is Patamon's most powerful form, and is a golden dragon whose divinity is noted by the Holy Ring worn on one arm.
  • Ear Wings: Patamon's ears double as wings, allowing him to fly.
  • Elemental Punch: Goldramon's God Fist is a punch of holy fire with the arm that bears a Holy Ring.
  • Emotion Eater: A benevolent version. He was able to digivolve to Angemon once again using the hope that Matt inspired in T.K. and that T.K. inspired in various Digimon trapped inside WaruMonzaemon.
  • Enemy Within: He digivolves to MagnaAngemon by accepting and reabsorbing Devimon. The episode ends with them talking to each other about which of them will outlast the other, with Devimon seemingly having manifested as the black section of MagnaAngemon's armor.
  • Enemy Without: While trapped within Sephirothmon, Angemon reveals that Devimon is a part of him that split off due to the pain of being immersed in miasma. He is able to digivolve to MagnaAngemon by accepting and reabsorbing that part of himself.
  • Flechette Storm: Pegasusmon's Needle Rain fires needle-like hairs from his mane.
  • Giant Flyer: Goldramon is absolutely gigantic in size, and flies through the air with his wings.
  • Gold and White Are Divine: One of Patamon's most powerful forms is Goldramon, a gold and white dragon who possess the power of a god. MagnaAngemon and Seraphimon also have copious amounts of both gold and white on their armor.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: Angemon possesses six fluffy angel wings, and is one of the Holy Digimon on the side of the heroes. BlackSeraphimon, seen briefly as Patamon talks about almost losing his mind in the darkness, has ten bat wings.
  • Hand Blast: Angemon's Heaven's Knuckle is a holy blast unleashed from his fist. Goldramon's God Flame is a wave of holy fire unleashed from both fists.
  • Heavenly Blue: Seraphimon is decked out in blue armor.
  • Heroic Build: Seraphimon has been redesigned to be broad chested and shouldered with a well muscled body. Angemon also has a muscular build that is very visible through his skintight bodysuit.
  • He's Back!: Patamon, fueled by the hope of the Digimon trapped inside WaruMonzaemon with him and T.K, regains the ability to digivolve into Angemon. To help drive it home that this is a particularly special moment, instead of either "Be the Winners" or "X-treme Fight" playing during the digivolution, "Break the Chain", which was previously only used for the Mega digivolutions, blares in the background.
  • Holy Burns Evil: Angemon's aura alone is enough to knock Velgrmon out of the sky. This is despite him being mortally injured by whatever torture Devimon put him through.
  • Holy Hand Grenade: After digivolving from Patamon, his digivolutions attack with holy powers. Even Pegasusmon's Silver Blaze is a holy ray.
  • Laser Blade: MagnaAngemon has one mounted on his wrist.
  • Living MacGuffin: He turns out to be the Celestial Digimon that the heroes spent the first major chunk of the series searching for, and most of the early villains are hellbent on preventing them from finding him. Granted, it later turns out that he's not the only Celestial Digimon, but that fact didn't come to light until well after they finally succeeded in reaching him.
  • Magic Missile Storm: Pegasusmon's Shooting Star turns his wings into a view of space, from which a storm of stars fall. Seraphimon's Seven Heavens also counts, firing seven orbs of holy power. Just the leading edge of the attack strong enough to Beam-O-War a continuous eye-laser from none other than Deathmon, letting the spheres land solid hits.
  • Megaton Punch: Goldramon's God Fist is this. It's powerful enough to shatter Millenniumon's jaw, even!
  • More Teeth than the Osmond Family: Tokomon reveals its two rows of sharp teeth while digivolving to Patamon.
  • Non-Mammalian Hair: Goldramon is a reptile with both hair and fur.
  • Mythology Gag: He combines elements of his original and Digimon Frontier versions, being a reincarnation of Seraphimon who gets reduced to a Digi Egg after being introduced as Angemon and gradually becomes a rookie-level Digimon.
  • Our Angels Are Different: As Angemon and his higher digivolutons, almost all of them Winged Humanoid versions. The exception is Goldramon, who is a dragon.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Goldramon is an example of this combined with the above trope, being an angelic dragon, typically closer to the design of an eastern dragon given its serpentine stature.
  • Pegasus: True to its name, Pegasusmon is a massive horse clad in golden armour with golden wings.
  • Physical God: Goldramon is, as his Japanese name suggests, literally a god dragon. Also is the fact that he is the reincarnation of Seraphimon.
  • Playing with Fire: God Flame, one of Goldramon's signature moves, is this. When it, alongside Magnadramon's Holy Flame end up getting into a Beam-O-War with Millenniumon's Infinity Cannon, the heat ends up being so great that Millenniumon's cannons melt.
  • Power Gives You Wings: When his forms higher than Angemon are glimpsed, they all have slightly more wings than the stage below to signify that the higher stages are stronger.
  • Power Glows: In his first appearance Angemon radiated a whining white light that weakens Velgrmon and empowered MetalGreymon and WereGarurumon.
  • Purple Is Powerful: MagnaAngemon is decked out in purple armour, and is much more powerful than the already mighty Angemon.
  • Sacred Flames: Goldramon's most powerful attacks are with holy fire.
  • Sixth Ranger: The other six Digimon in the team have met up with each other and their partners not even ten episodes in, in contrast with the original Adventure where the seven of them were one set before Gatomon came back into the equation. Patamon was not a member of the warriors in the past, and spent a good chunk of the series being held captive (as Angemon) by Devimon.
  • Snake People: Goldramon has a humanoid upper body, but his lower half is completely serpentine.
  • Spectacular Spinning: Pegasusmon's Rodeo Gallop involves him spinning vertically can crashing into his opponent in a reasonable facsimile of Sonic the Hedgehog's Homing Attack.
  • Spin to Deflect Stuff: Angemon can spin his staff to deflect attacks.
  • Super-Empowering: Angemon infuses MetalGreymon and WereGarurumon with more than enough power to defeat Velgrmon.
  • Super-Speed: According to his Digimon Encyclopedia at the end of Episode 33, Pegasusmon can move at super speeds.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Compared to Angemon, whose raw power allows him to go toe-to-toe with Ultimate-level Digimon despite only being at Champion-level, Pegasusmon isn't all that strong. He is however much more manuverable, capable of skillfully dodging a barrage of attacks from a Ultimate-level Digimon before striking its chin causing the attack its was charging to backfire on itself.
  • Weaponized Headgear: Pegasusmon can fire beams from his helmet with his Silver Blaze attack.
  • Winged Humanoid: Angemon and his higher digivolutions are humanoids with varying amount of wings emerging from their backs.

    Gatomon

Gatomon (Tailmon)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tailmon_2020.png
Voiced by: Mie Sonozaki (Japanese), Erin Yvette (English)
Kari's partner Digimon, a white cat with a ring on her tail. Unlike the other Digimon, her default form is at the Champion level. In ancient times, she was one of the Holy Digimon who led the fight against the Army of Darkness, but in present times her location is a mystery.

Her Digivolutions are as follows:
  • Champion: Gatomon, her default form. A bipedal cat with a Holy Ring on her tail.
  • Ultimate: Angewomon, an eight-winged female archangel dressed in a helmet and half a bodysuit.
  • Mega:
    • Ophanimon, a heavily-armored, ten-winged angel wielding a javelin. Briefly seen during a flashback to the war with the forces of darkness.
    • Magnadramon (Holydramon), a giant pink serpentine dragon with ten wings and two horns.

  • Absurdly Sharp Claws: Gatomon's Neko Scratch can slice through the armor of BladeKuwagamon.
  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: She wears a golden ring on her tail. It shows her to be a Holy Digimon.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Unlike in the original series, here Gatomon is capable of defying gravity ninja-style to some degree, making her more capable of combat in the air, and can spin realy fast in order to generate tornados. Comparatively, while Gatomon was capable as Myotismon's dragon in the original, she wasn't able to do very much in the Dark Masters arc without digivolving into Angewomon, unlike in the reboot where she's able to hold her own for prolonged periods.
    • Although the introduction of Angewomon is given much less gravitas and relevance to the plot than it had in Adventure, she shows new powers, as her Holy Arrow is much bigger than in the original series and she's also capable of levitating Kari with telekinesis.
    • Magnadramon didn't get very many chances to shine in the original continuity; in the second 02 movie, she and Seraphimon were utterly trounced by Cherubimon and only served to bring about the Digimentals of Miracles and Fate. She reappeared in Digimon Adventure tri. where she did okay against Ordinemon, but didn't do much before all of the original DigiDestined's Digimon combined into Omnimon: Merciful Mode. Here, she shows off a lot of the abilities that originally went underutilized; her Holy Flame attack now has enough power to match one of Millenniumon's Shoulder Cannons, and her Apocalypse attack fires electric beams that are powerful enough to melt Millenniumon's face. She's also much bigger and not afraid to get up close and personal with those claws and fangs of hers.
    • Unlike her Adventure incarnation, she's shown to go into both Magnadramon and Ophanimon, with Ophanimon in particular being able to one-shot Deathmon with a single Eden's Javelin. In Digimon Adventure tri., she only managed to achieve Ophanimon: Falldown Mode, who did little of importance before being forcibly DNA Digivolved into Ordinemon.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: While Gatomon was just as serious in the original, here she has a more composed, chivalrous attitude, with one episode description even comparing her to a knight.
  • Adapted Out: In addition to her Fresh and In-Training forms, a trope she shares with most of the other Digimon, her Rookie form Salamon (Plotmon) is nowhere to be seen.
  • All Your Powers Combined: This is how the form of Magnadramon is achieved, an digivolution from Angewomon born from the hopes of the other seven DigiDestined (Alongside Goldramon, Patamon's counterpart).
  • Angelic Beauty: Angewomon is an archangel Digimon, and her resemblance to a beautiful woman is mentioned in her profile.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Magnadramon is massive, being comparable in size to Millenniumon, whose claws dwarf mountains, and who makes WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon look like ants in comparison.
  • Beam Spam: Magnadramon's Apocalypse fires five beams of holy light from Instant Runes that she conjures.
  • Beware My Stinger Tail: In episode 58, she destroys a Soulmon by hitting it with her Holy Ring.
  • Blow You Away: Gatomon generated a tornado to blow away all the Chikurimon when a few attacked Kari.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: The corruption she was kept in turned Gatomon into SkullKnightmon, who worked towards the exact opposite goal Gatomon does.
  • Breath Weapon: Magnadramon expels her Holy Flame from her mouth. It's a standard fire breath that is hot enough to burn blue.
  • Care-Bear Stare: Heaven's Charm is described on Angewomon's profile as being a ray of beauty and kindness.
  • Cats Hate Water: Averted — turns out she loves hot springs, and took a while to be convinced to come out.
  • Catlike Dragons: Magnadramon combines the serpentine body of a dragon with a lion-like face, complete with a mane, and a body covered in fur.
  • Chainmail Bikini: The only armor Angewomon wears is her helmet and a metal bra.
  • Combat Medic: Angewomon used Saint's Air to restore energy to Petaldramon, allowing it fo finish its fight with Entmon.
  • The Corruption: Like Patamon, when she was captured by the forces of Darkness she was kept within in. Unlike with Patamon, they were successful, and she was turned into SkullKnightmon.
  • Cute Bruiser: Gatomon looks absolutely adorable, and can punch as hard as Greymon's fireballs.
  • Diving Kick: Gatomon uses Neko Kick this way to defeat a BladeKuwagamon.
  • Dragons Are Divine: As Magnadramon, who is both a dragon and a divine beast.
  • Elemental Punch: Neko Punch is normally a purely physical attack, but Gatomon can empower it to be a Holy Punch.
  • Energy Bow: As in previous incarnations, her Angewomon form has one of these on her wrist.
  • Everything's Better with Rainbows: Angewomon's Saint's Air creates a wave of rainbow light that restores energy to her allies.
  • Evil-Detecting Cat: She's able to use her Holy Ring to sense the presence of evil Digimon, allowing Kari to navigate safely through a forest in episode 58.
  • Feathered Dragons: Though Magnadramon is mostly covered in fur, she does still possess ten fluffy angel wings.
  • Fighting from the Inside: Her calling out to Kari from within SkullKnightmon is the first action she takes independently of the latter.
  • Giant Flyer: Magnadramon is absolutely massive in size, and flies through the air with her ten wings.
  • Gold and White Are Divine: Befitting her status as a Holy Digimon, Gatomon is predominatly white, but bears a golden ring on her tail. Angewomon follows suit by wearing white clothing, and adds a golden bra to go with the Holy Ring.
  • Holy Burns Evil: According to Angewomon's profile, Holy Arrow and Heaven's Charm get more effective the more evil the Digimon they are used on are.
  • Holy Halo: When digivolving into Angewomon, Gatomon's Holy Ring becomes a halo which she ascends through to transform from a cat into an angel.
  • Holy Hand Grenade: Gatomon's Holy Ring marks her as a Holy Digimon, and she can empower her punches to be holy ones. Angewomon's Holy Arrow and Heaven's Charm are also this, as is Magnadramon's Apocalypse. The latter of which is powerful enough to melt Millenniumon's face.
  • In a Single Bound: As Gatomon she's capable of leaping high into the air to attack airborne opponents.
  • Instant Runes: Magnadramon's Apocalypse conjures five circles of Digi-letters that fire beams of holy light. The Digi-letters spell out "Digital Monster" in katakana.
  • Light 'em Up: Magnadramon's Apocalypse opens five portals from which beams of light emerge to annhilate her foe.
  • Lightning Bruiser: As Gatomon she's quick enough that her speed gets commented on, and strong enough to crack the shell of an Ultimate level Digimon after Kari gets her Digivice.
  • Living MacGuffin: She turns out to be the 'other' Celestial Digimon that the heroes spent some episodes searching for after finding Patamon.
  • Mind over Matter: Angewomon lifts Kari into the air via telekinesis in her first appearance.
  • Mr. Exposition: As the only Digimon who remembers the ancient war, she frequently exposits on the nature of the Digital World, where they currently are.
  • Mythology Gag: Like Patamon, she is her original series self augmented with elements of Ophanimon in directing the children to the Big Bad's base and being a reincarnated Celestial Digimon.
  • Older Than They Look: Despite looking like the rest of the Digimon in their default forms, Gatomon is a Champion level, while the others are all at Rookie level.
  • Our Angels Are Different: Angewomon is specifically an archangel, and is a Winged Humanoid variation, like Angemon. Ophanimon continues the Winged Humanoid theme, while Magnadramon is a dragon/beast/angel hybrid.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Magnadramon is a combination of dragons, beasts and angels, and possesses the power of a god.
  • The Paladin: Gatomon acts as Kari's sworn knight and can use her holy powers to both attack foes while supporting her allies as healer while empowering them.
  • Physical God: According to her Digimon Encyclopedia, Angewomon is like a goddess. Magnadramon takes this one step further by truly having the power of a god. Also is the fact that she is a reincarnation of Ophanimon.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: Gatomon's a Champion level like Greymon, but she's about the same size as the Rookie level Digimon.
  • Playing with Fire: Magnadramon's Holy Flame is this. When it, alongside Goldramon's God Flame, ends up getting into a Beam-O-War with Millenniumon's Infinity Cannon, the heat given off is so great that Millenniumon's cannons melt.
  • Power Floats: Gatomon isn't capable of outright flight, needing to jump to gain any altitude, but once in the air she can hover in place and move horizontally to dodge attacks and move between enemies.
  • Power Gives You Wings: Digivolving to her Ultimate level of Angewomon gives her eight wings to fly freely with, in addition to the extra power of being a higher level.
  • Power Glows: In her first appearance, Angewomon was wrapped in a glowing pink aura.
  • Power Source: The Holy Ring on Gatomon's tail is what allows her to fight as well as she does despite her being smaller than most Rookie level Digimon. Unlike before, we never see her without it.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: Gatomon can use Neko Punch this way, such as when she deleted three Mantaryamon simultaneously.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: When MarineDevimon tries to recorrupt her back into DarkKnightmon, her eyes turn entirely red and she tries to attack Greymon.
  • Sacred Bow and Arrows: One of Angewomon's attacks is Holy Arrow, where she fires an arrow of holy lightning at her enemies.
  • Sacred Flames: Magnadramon's Holy Flame is, as the name suggests, a holy dragon breathing holy fire.
  • Sensor Character: Gatomon can feel the presence of powerful Digimon before they actually appear, reacting to both MarinDevimon and MetallifeKuwagamon well before anyone would have been able to see them.
  • Shock and Awe: Angewomon's Holy Arrow is described as a powerful lightning strike in her profile.
  • Sixth Ranger: As with the original Adventure, Gatomon doesn't come into the story until episode 34. The other six Digimon in the team have met up with each other and their partners not even ten episodes in. Gatomon was not a member of the warriors in the past because she's a Holy Digimon like Patamon and Lopmon.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: She can both understand Komondomon and speak to it in the same language of barks.
  • Spell Blade: In Episode 39, Angewomon displays the ability to do this, firing her arrow into Zudomon's hammer to boost it into a holy hammer.
  • Spin Attack: Gatomon can spin really fast in order to generate tornados.
  • Super-Empowering: As Angewomon, she does this for Petaldramon during its fight with Entmon, allowing the former to pull a Taking You with Me. She also does this for WarGreymon so that he can fight Machinedramon on even footing.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: SkullKnightmon is one of these, having been created by the forces of darkness amplifying her negative emotions until they became all-consuming. The emotions that formed SkullKnightmon are still a part of her, which initially makes her afraid to digivolve.
  • Tornado Move: Gatomon can spin really fast in order to generate tornados, which she uses to sweep Chikurimon into Ebidramon.
  • Weapon Twirling: Ophanimon twirls her javelin at the end of her digivolution sequence.
  • Winged Humanoid: Angewomon resembles a human woman, except for the eight angel wings that emerge from her back.
  • You Are Not Alone: After she is released it takes a little time for her to be convinced to let her partner work together with her.

    Omnimon

Omnimon (Omegamon)

The fused form of WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon, a Mega level Digimon they become to defeat the seemingly unsurmountable Argomon. Afterwards, neither retain any memory of the experience.

His Digivolutions, or Mode Changes, are as follows:
  • Mega (fusion): Omnimon, a mechanical-looking holy knight of tremendous power. Created by fusing the digivolved forms of Agumon and Gabumon and empowered by the light of hope.
    • Mode Change: Omnimon Alter-S (Omegamon Alter-S), a variant of Omnimon with a cannon made from BlitzGreymon and a sword made from CresGarurumon.

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • As impressive as it is for a Digimon as powerful as Omnimon usually is, he's significantly stronger than his previous self. His first two fights are only challenging at all because of a time limit. His final battle, however, reveals that he can fire a Macross Missile Massacre as well as generate a powerful shield, powers the original Omnimon didn't have. He also briefly gains the ability to duel wield the cannons and swords of both of his forms.
    • Omnimon Alter-S is this compared to what we know of him prior. He's normally depicted as being as strong as regular Omnimon, while here he's presented as a straight up Super Mode. There's also the fact that Omnimon can go into Alter-S at all, and by itself no less, as opposed to Merciful Mode which required a group DNA Digivolution with the other partners.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Previously, Omnimon was a post-series power up created by fusing two Mega Digimon (WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon) into one and was a serious contender for one of the most powerful Digimon in the anime franchise. His appearances were almost exclusively post-series and involved him going up against the most powerful enemies in the original series. Here he shows up at the end of episode 2, LONG before his components gain their natural Mega forms.
  • Adaptation Expansion: The original Omnimon didn't have much plot relevance outside of being used to defeat Diaboromon. This Omnimon, however, is a major part of the series lore. He was formed when the souls of four fallen commanders of the Army of Light merged with the remaining two to form him to defeat Millenniumon. He is dubbed the 'Ultimate Miracle' because of this.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Downplayed compared to Omnimon Merciful Mode. In the ancient war, all of the partner Megas except for Seraphimon and Ophanimon merged together to get a stronger version of base-form Omnimon. Omnimon Alter-S is this to the Crests instead, changing form using the power of all eight.
  • Ambiguous Robot: He has a robotic appearance but is a Holy Knight Digimon.
  • Arm Cannon: His right arm is the Garuru Cannon, a gun made from MetalGarurumon. Omnimon Alter-S reverses the arrangement of his weapons, with the Grey Cannon made from BlitzGreymon as his left arm. He even wields both together mid-transformation. Not only does the Grey Cannon fire red energy blasts, it also emits a holy aura that immobilizes Abaddomon Core.
  • Badass Cape: As tradition. He uses it to his advantage in episode 17, using it as a way to stop himself, Tai and Matt from getting sucked in a portal like the others. He's also capable of using it as a shield, and it enables him to fly.
  • Beam-O-War: He gets into one of these between his Garuru Cannon and Abaddomon Core's Arm Cannon during the final battle.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: His left arm is the Grey Sword made from WarGreymon. Omnimon Alter-S has his weapons flipped and instead has the Garuru Sword as his right arm, made from CresGarurumon. He even wields both of them together mid-transformation.
  • Cape Wings: Downplayed. His cape doesn't form into wings but according to episode 66's analyzer screen, it does still give him flying abilities.
  • Cloak of Defense: See Deflector Shields below.
  • Combat Pragmatist: When fighting Abaddomon, he fires his Garuru Cannon through his cape so that his opponent can't see it coming. He also rapidly switches up his forms weapons to alter his fighting style.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Although neither the battle against Argomon (who constantly regenerates) nor the battle against Nidhoggmon (who constantly draws power from the real world to counter his attacks) seem overly one-sided, Omnimon ends up defeating both in a short period of time without taking any damage whatsoever, with most of the tension coming from the fact that their battles are on a timer rather than any risk of actually losing.
  • Deflector Shields: He can swing his cape in front of him to form one, using it to defend against Nidhoggmon's attacks. The Brave Shield on his shoulder also projects one of these strong enough to deflect multiple shots from Abaddomon Core.
  • Deus ex Machina: Agumon and Gabumon initially can't fuse into him naturally, only combining in moments of extreme danger (so far only when battling Mega level Digimon Argomon and Nidhoggmon). It's later described that his entire existence is a miracle made manifest.
  • Fusion Dance: Created when Agumon and Gabumon fuse together. They've done it as Greymon and Garurumon instead of as WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon though, and later they do it as MetalGreymon and WereGarurumon. A flashback reveals he was originally a fusion of all the commanders except the Holy Digimon, as the souls of the four who fell in battle combined with them.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: His Grey Sword is what he usually use to finish enemy with.
  • An Ice Person: His Garuru Cannon freezes enemies by unleashes a blast with a temperature of absolute zero.
  • Instant Runes: At the end of the final battle, he reverts to Omnimon and glowing digi-letters corresponding to "All Recover" in katakana appear on the Grey Sword before he releases what looks like a World-Healing Wave.
  • Light Is Good: He has shining white armor, can be activated by the Holy Digimon, and is the strongest Digimon available to the DigiDestined. That's about as Light Is Good as you can get.
  • Macross Missile Massacre: While fighting Abaddomon Core, it unleashes a couple dozen missiles from ports hidden in its shoulder above the Garuru Cannon, though they all get shot down by Abaddomon Core's Eye Beams.
  • Made of Good: Omnimon is formed from the hope of humans and/or Digimon depending on the situation. This does mean that he splits into his component Digimon when the fighting is over, though.
  • The Magnificent: He's given the title 'the Ultimate Miracle.'
  • More Dakka: He can spam-fire the Garuru Cannon. He also briefly wields the Garuru Cannon and the Grey Cannon together while transforming into Omnimon Alter-S, spamming both to counter Abaddomon Core's Eye Beams.
  • The Paralyzer: Omnimon Alter-S paralyzes Abaddomon Core with a holy aura emitted from the Grey Cannon.
  • Primary-Color Champion: Omnimon Alter-S has his base form's white armor and blue eyes, but with red and gold markings.
  • Shoulder Cannon: The Garuru Cannon's shoulder is a missile port, from which Omnimon fires a Macross Missile Massacre at Abaddomon Core.
  • Story-Breaker Power: Being a fusion of two Mega level Digimon, he is miles ahead in power of every Digimon shown so far, both heroes and villains alike, until Abaddomon Core comes along. As a result, most of his appearances have been treated as divine interventions from the Holy Digimon to save the kids.
  • Shapeshifter Weapon: He draws out his transformation to Omnimon Alter-S to invoke this, wielding both forms' swords and then both forms' cannons before completing the transformation.
  • Shoot the Bullet: While transforming into Omnimon Alter-S, he breaks out both the Garuru Cannon and the Grey Cannon, hitting Abaddomon Core's Eye Beams with his own energy blasts in what amounts to a More Dakka spam-fight.
  • Spikes of Villainy: Inverted. Both forms have all kinds of spikes on their armor and Omnimon is the Digital World's greatest hero.
  • Super Mode: Omnimon Alter-S. Omnimon slowly changes into this form while fighting Abaddomon Core using the power of all eight of the children and their eight crests.
  • Sword Beam: Alter-S finishes Abaddomon Core's main body off with one of these from the Garuru Sword, causing it to unleash a fleshy maw hidden within.
  • A Taste of Power: He appears much earlier than usual and both his fights were won in a short period of time, but Agumon and Gabumon cannot naturally fuse into him yet and only achieve this form due to the Holy Digimon.
  • World-Healing Wave: Brings one out after the final battle with Abaddomon in the form of All Recover (Read in Digi Code on his sword before he uses it), restoring all of the damage they caused in both the real and Digital World.
  • World's Strongest Man: Omnimon's power is insane, easily defeating Argomon and Nidhoggmon, who’s also shown to have a lot of power before, and his appearances are all treated as divine interventions. A flashback reveals he's not even at full strength yet. He was originally a fusion of six Digimon: the two he is now plus their four fallen comrades.
