The page is now live! Trope-tan
As said here: Trope-tan is a cute concept, but her design has always struck me as busy/outdated/not befitting the Moe Anthropomorphism look. Would the community be open to a potential redesign and/or full update of the page? I've drawn◊ the current design before, but I didn't want to start thinking about making changes before running it by the community and seeing if this is even something plausible first.
The first thing that comes to mind is that, since it's a gijinka design, I'd probably like for it to use more anime-oriented tropes than it already does, and make the design more visually cohesive and less chaotic and disorganized.
If a total revamp isn't plausible right now, maybe at least a new, cleaner image could be provided of the current design?
Edit: Here's the sandbox for the new and improved Trope-tan page, and it's open for edits, new ideas, and designs for "offshoot" Trope-tans such as Sugar Wiki. Feel free to contribute, suggest ideas for uses for the new Trope-tan, and give feedback!
This◊ is a Gilligan Cut-styled "origin story" for her, and this◊ is a blank "advice banner" template.

Do it! :)
BTW, the classic still around at Archive.Trope Tan Classic; consider the new one a legacy hero if you will
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessThe webcomic idea sounds cute!
Macron's notesLadies and Germs, a new addition◊ to Trope-tan and Friends arrives: WMG-tan!
Her Personal Appearance Tropes are as follows:
- She's a Black and Nerdy Bespectacled Cutie, whose thick Opaque Nerd Glasses would be much too heavy on anyone else.
- Her colors are taken from WMG pages' layout, lower half mostly notwithstanding.
- Has Hammerspace Hair styled into four buns, two large and two smaller, which she often uses in place of a backpack or a handbag.
- She's got plenty of Fashionable Asymmetry, primarily via Duality Motif, meant to represent WMG's inconstant, ever-changing swirl of fan-theories.
- The shirt she wears beneath her leather jacket is black on the right side, and striped yellow on the left, and the sleeves have inverted colors for their "slanted stripe" pattern, with a lighter yellow at front and duller yellow at back mixed with black.
- Her left stocking is celery-colored while her right is carrot-colored, and the laces of her blueberry canvas shoes are each a different shade of tangerine. Mmm... Edible Theme Naming.
- Fully half of her hair is an unnatural sand-blond.
- Her time-weathered leather jacket is meant to appear as though patched up and repaired from many scraps of leather, befitting WMG pages' note-laden background, and also has a large golden letter "W" on the back. Additionally, the buttons on the shoulderpads are meant to mimic the Random Trope/Work buttons on WMG pages.
- Has long, Pointy Expressive Ears, on which she wears two pairs of earrings.
- Her freckled cheeks seem flecked with motes of gold, which seem to sparkle When She Smiles or is excited.
- Has a pear-shaped physique.
As for her personality:
- She's the Cloudcuckoolander/Bunny-Ears Lawyer of the bunch, with a marked fondness for spouting off Non Sequiturs whenever she can get them in, but in reality, she's not nearly as scatterbrained as she lets on. In more serious situations, she drops this habit entirely.
- Is a skilled practitioner of Confusion Fu, frequently pulling a whirlwind of improbable weapons in and out of her Hammerspace Hair in a fight. Has a particular liking for books.
- She's made her home in a forest of Epileptic Trees, where she's lived for as long as she can remember.
- She's fairly certain that her time spent in this strange place is what's brought about her various changes, like her half-blond Hammerspace Hair, spacey nature, Unusual Ears, capacity for Offscreen Teleportation, and golden freckles, eyes, and fingernails.
- Has had many Fleeting Passionate Hobbies over the years, but being a Gamer Chick par excellence is a mainstay among them.
If you've got any more ideas for her appearance and/or personality, then feel free to share them! I sure can't design a character for all of TV Tropes from the ground up all on my lonesome.
P.S.: Her sleeves were inspired by those of the winner of NASCAR's 2022 Hollywood Casino 400. I just thought they looked cool.
As for the webcomic idea, go right ahead!
Design Edit 01: Changed her shorts from white to black, and also got rid of the pockets. I mean this not to advance the trend of womenswear having woefully insufficient pocket space, but only because she can stash anything she needs in her hair instead.
Design Edit 02: Darkened her lips and enlarged the gold flecks on her cheeks. However, when I try to show this through the primary image, it always comes out smaller. Refer to the imgur link for the changes I make.

Nice!

THE GOLDEN AGE WILL RETURN AGAIN!I used to draw all the time, but I've been out of practice for many years. I figured I'd give it another go with a black-and-white bust of Ms. WMG-tan.
In my mind, her ears are a smidge longer than how I drew them here. I just couldn't quite get them right and had to redraw them a bunch.

Nice
ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔|I DO COMMISSIONS|ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔Nice!! I like to imagine that her goggles give her a very bizarre Cloudcuckoolander view of the world and if anybody else wore them, they'd go mad.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. While I like the concept of her humongous glasses tying in to her loopy mannerisms, I don't much like the concept of them solely being the byproduct of wearing them, inextricably tied to the glasses.
Check out my Pantheon Search Database prototype! In other matters, I've decided that I want WMG-tan's pants to have pockets after all, since I imagine that the more things she stuffs in her Hammerspace Hair, the harder it is for her to focus on one individual thing to pull out.
Check out my Pantheon Search Database prototype!I've added WMG-tan to the main page.
In other Trope-tan related topics, it looks like hardly anything has ever been done with Black Magician Girltan, Cute Bruisertan, Mysterious Waiftan, or The Wiki Witch of the Web. The first three in that list are flat characters seemingly dedicated only to taking a small collection of tropes and make them into a rudimentary character with some plotline attempting to tie them together that's as thin as it is vague. The Witch, however, already has many aspects of her embodied by Darth-tan, being a villainous foil to Trope-tan, and Darth's a more creative character than a mere Evil Knockoff of Trope-tan.
However, I think it'd be cool to add a character based on the old Trope-tan, now grown into a Cool Old Lady. Any in favor?
Check out my Pantheon Search Database prototype!Sure sounds interesting.
Macron's notesI guess we can always composite the Wiki Witch with Darth-tan. I'm open to the idea, but I don't really know how to work their designs together.
Oh, I don't mean to add some of the Wiki Witch's traits onto Darth-tan, I meant to say that the Witch's role was already filled up by Darth.
Check out my Pantheon Search Database prototype!I love WMG-tan! Such a cute design! I'd be happy to do some "official" art of her !
Honestly, I had no idea the other -tan pages existed, and I'm not sure I want to open the floodgates to gijinkas of every trope. (At least, within scope of Trope-tan. It'd probably be fun in isolation ) I love the idea of more subwiki -tans though!
The webcomic sounds awesome too!

Trope-tan is here! ➯ my pronouns are ze/hirOh, I don't mean to encourage proliferation of gijinkas of just about any trope that anyone can think of, especially not when they're as barebones as the current three are. I only knew of them anyway from sifting through the pages that link to Trope-tan.
And I'm glad that WMG-tan has been so well recieved! However, it looks like there aren't a whole lot of extra wiki personifications left to create more personifications of; all of the subdivisions that have different page layouts have already been covered.
Check out my Pantheon Search Database prototype!Tbh, the -tans that were shown are... not that good. They take a trope, and then try to add on whatever they can that is even slightly related. It gets halted in its tracks, little opportunities for growth. The three (four now?) Wiki-tans don't use a trope as the base, just the character themselves, then add onto that character tropes. That can be expanded easily over time as things grow.
Yes I'm aware I made Tropeleton but still.
Edit: Hmm, maybe ATTan and TLP-tan?
Edited by CardboardBot on Apr 14th 2023 at 9:29:47 PM
I didn't mean to say that the three old relatives of Trope-tan should be expanded on in any way, only that they're sorely outdated in the face of Darth-tan and Sugar-tan, who had a lot more effort put into them to characterize them beyond a mere lump of tropes and uninspired, online-template-made artwork.
And Ask the Tropers and the Trope Launch Pad sound more like they could fall under things that Trope-tan could be said to do. I'm not asking for a personification of every aspect of the website, I only mean to point out that they've run dry.
I don't know what Tropeleton is, either, but it sounds like some terrible mishmash of Trope-tan and Peloton.
Edited by Lapsem on Apr 15th 2023 at 9:38:11 AM
Check out my Pantheon Search Database prototype!Fair.
Also, Tropeleton is a combination of Skeleton and Trope, meant to be a representation of tropes related to the dead and skeletons.
A second drawing of WMG-tan, this time a full-body image, which I consider to be not as good as my first drawing of her.
I prefer this style of shorts, but I'm not good at drawing hands or shoes. Also, I kept on fouling up her mouth and the paper smudged as I tried to erase it and redo it, so I gave up and gave her a mask instead. I'm inept with drawing people's bodies, too.
Plus, I drew her ears pointier than I had initially wanted them to appear. Oh, well.
Edited by Lapsem on Apr 17th 2023 at 9:29:42 AM
Check out my Pantheon Search Database prototype! The body should be smaller and the torso and legs should be longer.
Other than that, it's pretty good. Only a bit more polishing and adding details such as separating the fingers is needed besides the previous criticism I gave.
That sounds fun, I'd love to read it!
