Opening this. It looks like we could resolve this by turning the page from an index into a supertrope i.e allowing examples and crosswicking some of the existing wicks to obtain an example list.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI would be up for making an Artistic License Guns trope.
Rock'n'roll never dies!I'm not so sure there's a point in an Artistic License Guns trope... because all the various ways in which guns can be (mis)represented appear to be covered by the couple dozen tropes on this index.
It turns out we have three indexes on gun tropes, i.e. this one, Guns and Gunplay Tropes, and Bullet Index. I note that every single trope on Bullet Index is already on Guns and Gunplay Tropes, too (unsurprisingly, since you can't use a bullet without a gun).
I think the best name of the three is Guns and Gunplay Tropes. So let's merge both other indexes into that one.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight! There are some, such as this one from BioshockInfinite.Tropes A To H that don't fit in the tropes under Guns Do Not Work That Way:
- Guns Do Not Work That Way: Weapon barrels have a tendency to get extremely hot much faster in the game than they will in reality, but no example is more absurd than the Rolston Reciprocating Repeater, whose heat shield starts glowing bright red even before a full magazine is spent while the barrel underneath mysteriously remains cool throughout.
And if we were to merge indices, I think we should merge the Bullet Index into Guns and Gunplay Tropes. Guns Do Not Work That Way is an index about guns being portrayed inaccurately in fiction, while the latter two are just tropes about guns.

Rock'n'roll never dies!Agreed that this should be a supertrope like many other Artistic License tropes. Something like the format used for Artistic License – Physics.
I'm back!Merge Bullet Index into Guns and Gunplay Tropes; turn Guns Do Not Work That Way into a supertrope under the name Artistic License Guns.
I was considering a thread to merge Artistic License - Astronomy into Space Does Not Work That Way (as it si really The Same, but More Specific) and realized that the latter has the same issue.
I'm back!Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.
I support making Guns Do Not Work That Way a supertrope but I don't see the point of renaming- current name is just as clear and a rename is a lot of extra work.
"It's just a show; I should really just relax"Then keep the name for Guns Do Not Work That Way, and make Artistic License Guns a redirect.

Bump. Consensus or do we gotta crowner what to do with the names?
It might be worth hollering to ask a mod if we have enough consensus, or if we need a crowner. (I'd holler myself, but hollers haven't been working right for me lately.)

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I attempted the holler a day or two ago. Nothing, obviously. Here's a bump.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessAttached an empty crowner.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanSince we got some crowner options, bumping for votes.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportUpvoted the supertrope option because Guns Do Not Work That Way is currently used as a trope and the other options don't address it. And I don't see why we wouldn't want a supertrope.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe only Artistic License trope we have for guns seems to be Artistic License – Gun Safety. It's weird that we'd have that one and miss the supertrope.
Would Artistic License Ballistics be a better name? I don't mind the current name staying but I know "X Does Not Work That Way" names have a history of attracting complaining.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe."Artistic License" meanwhile has a history of causing confusion as it's not clear whether it's about any error or about errors that benefit the story.

Crown Description:
Slapstick Knows No Gender
Guns Do Not Work That Way is an index of tropes about guns being portrayed inaccurately in fiction; however, due to the name, people think that it is a trope about guns being inaccurate in fiction, and as a result like 95% of the wicks are from work pages where guns are inaccurate in whatever way, that would probably fit under one of the tropes that are indexed on the page, or perhaps an Artistic License Gun Design trope or something.
So, yeah. Out of fifty wicks, one, maybe two actually refer to Guns Do Not Work That Way as an index; everything else thinks it's a trope. This is in serious need of a rename.
