Anime

• Minor character Ander Polnareff (the stoner artist from chapter four) gets his last name from one of the characters from Jojos Bizarre Adventure.
• The main characters are reading Berserk in the beginning of chapter five.
• “So she’s trying to be a lame vegan version of Light Yagami. Gotcha.”
• In chapter eight, 89 Days Around the World is a Show Within a Show version of Jo Jos Bizarre Adventure Stardust Crusaders.
• Violet gets her last name, Harlacher, from Erika Harlacher, the English dub voice actress for Violet Evergarden.

Film

• Francis is a noted visitor of Greased Up Lightning.
• Much lingo from Heathers is aped, such as 'What's your damage' and 'Fuck me with a chainsaw'.
• Chapter twenty-one's funeral fight is a reference to the church scene from Kingsman: The Secret Service, complete with bigots tearing each other apart.

Literature

• The scene with the deer dying while warning Ponce is a direct reference to Victor Pascow's scene in Pet Sematary. Both even feature someone in college (although Pondovadia goes with the college professor route rather than student).
• Chapter 8 mentions a duo of a sheep and goat vandalizing signs by rearranging their letters, referencing Captain Underpants
• In chapter fifteen, Principal Cinnamon is seen reading Maus.
• Minor character Emilia Daenerys Aries is named after Daenerys and the actress who plays her. Fittingly enough, she's a dragon.
• In chapter nineteen, Frederick's class discusses To Kill A Mocking Bird with a heavily inaccurate analysis.

Live-Action Series

• Lake of the Unknown Knotts is named after Don Knotts of The Andy Griffith Show fame.
• In chapter six, Klarisse mentions Star Trek fanfiction as part of her class.
• Chapter Seven's plot is a tribute to Mystery Science Theater 3000. The main scientist is even named after Felicia Day and she mentions Joel, Mike, and Jonah as other clients.
• In chapter seven, Toshi yells out "I'm not dead, I'm resting!"
• Francis looks for a 'monstah condom'.

Music

• The subtitle comes from lyrics from "Can't Stop".
• Chapter One's title is lyrics from the song "This Town".
• The Deutschendorf Forest in Chapter One is a reference to Henry John Deutschendorf, aka John Denver.
• Minor character Don Van Maskrep is named after Captain Beefheart and his album "Trout Mask Replica". Unsurprisingly, he is a trout.
• Rory Hollenoat gets his last name from Hall & Oates.
• In the middle of chapter one, Bell references "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd.
• Court of the Epitaph takes its names from two albums by King Crimson.
• The Paisley Three Story Fountain is named after Paisley Park by Prince.
• Chapter two's title is "Kickstart My Heart".
• Joan is named after Joan Jett.
• Recurring band Blyned Jagwar is named after Def Leppard.
• Chapter Three's title references "Danger Zone".
• Chapter four's title references "Love Shack".
• The weed Carnegie asks for is named Purple Haze, Dark Side Moon, and Sgt Pepper.
• Chapter five's title references lyrics from "Land of Confusion".
• Side character Benjamin is named after Andre Laure Benjamin.
• Recurring character Keira Takeuchi's last name from Mariya Takeuchi.
• Chapter six's title is from "Hungry like the Wolf". And yes, there is a wolf character.
• Geddy, a minor character, is named after Geddy Lee.
• Nightfever Hockey Ring is named after "Night Fever".
• Chapter seven's title is lyrics from "Never Gonna Give You Up".

• Scorpion character Tobias is directly named after one of the creators of Mortal Kombat.
• Minor character Rodney is an expy of the Animal Crossing character.
• Peeky Pika has a similar name to Pikachu.

Western Animation

• The whole series taking place in the 3000s is a direct reference to a certain other series taking place in the same time period.
• Jamie Valhallen's last name is a reference to Valhallen.
• In chapter seven, the theater is named after Planet Express.
• Also in chapter seven, Ponce yells out "Oh my fuck they killed Kaylee".
• Sandyna's last name, Sanchez, is a direct reference to Rick Sanchez.
• In chapter fourteen, Ponce references Deandra's "X, no, Y, no, X, no, Y, no, both!" when picking out a new hoodie.
• The school principal is named after Cinnamon J. Scudworth.
