Wick Check input (100 examples)

  1. VideoGame.War Of Harmony: Pinkie Pie: Using chili to deal fire magic and laughs to damage spirits.
  2. VideoGame.Swords And Claws: Doramun is modified version of this trope. He has the best defense and the best attack, but energy meter needs to be full for him to use his attacks.
  3. Characters.Kinetic Adventures: Skilled at healing and attack magic; however, he’s unable to attack while casting, also leaving him a...Squishy Wizard
  4. Characters.Final Fantasy IV: The Archmage: At least by human standards. Sages are rare in the world of FFIV, so Tellah's mastery of both forms of magic makes him kind of a big deal. Still, Tellah has his limits (his attempts to cure Palom and Porom with Esuna fail miserably, for starters, though this is also because they willingly turned themselves to stone), and his advanced age doesn't help matters.
  5. Literature.Skulduggery Pleasant: Master of One Magic: Most adult mages can only do one type of magic apart from a few examples of The Red Mage mentioned below.
  6. AwesomeButImpractical.Turn Based Strategy Games: Church Militant: War Clerics/War Monks, which are a healing class that can also (famously) use axes to attack. Unfortunately, most units who have access to the class have much higher Magic than Strength, and anyone with War Cleric access can also promote to a Sage or Valkyrie, which both put that Magic stat to better use with tomes. This includes both Lissa and Maribelle, the two starting units with War Cleric access. Bolt Axes can mollify this somewhat, since they scale with Magic instead of Strength and have good base stats to start with, but they're also an example of this trope since you're just using them as a tome substitute, anyway, and tomes have much more variety in effects.
  7. VideoGame.Light Apprentice: Squishy Wizard: Tlob, who initially specializes in healing and shielding, but is still capable of casting Blast at enemies.
  8. Characters.Final Fantasy Recurring Jobs: Trope Namer.
  9. VideoGame.Ziggurat: Argo and Carina the Apprentices yet again, as befitting their Jack of All Stats role.
  10. Fanfic. All Things Probable Series: Maze, who has channeled part of the Great Bear Spirit's power into himself and also mastered the creation of golems (based on a Jewish mystical tradition) in addition to his own shadow medicine.
  11. VideoGame.Marvel Avengers Alliance Tactics: Iron Man and Black Panther, who are the default starter characters. Both are good on their own right (Tony deals heavy damage from a distance, while T'Challa is an agile melee hero who inflicts DoTs), but unlocking other heroes will give you more options in character classes (beyond Blaster and Tactician) as well as tactical choices (e.g. Scarlet Witch, a Blaster who is more of The Red Mage, or Cyclops, a ranged Tactician who provides team buffs). Players also get a free 16 Command Point hero after reaching level 3, but must earn or buy the rest of their characters.
  12. Characters.Persona 4 The Investigation Team: Provides healing magic to the party and damaging Fire magic to the enemy.
  13. VideoGame.Telepath RPG: The protagonist, although they lean more towards offense than defense.
  14. VideoGame.Worlds End: Oksana has excellent damage and healing options with her magic, and has very solid HP and some physical attacks to boot.
  15. Characters.Persona Disappearing Dreams: His Persona has a mix of damaging spells, healing spells, and buffs.
  16. Manga.Crimson Spell: Halvir is The Red Mage, using elemental combat magic and Healing Hands most prominently, but also displaying an aptitude for alchemy, scrying, and use of enchanted items. It's implied that his energy exchanges with Vald's demonic side are considered a form of theurgic Black Magic, with Halrein saying that the council of elders will "find [him] guilty" of tainting his magic by having sex with "that beast".
  17. Characters.Dot Hack Second Generation: His job allows him to learn many of the spells used by Harvest Clerics and Shadow Warlocks (including debuff/bad status types) but he doesn't gain the high-level spells of either class. He is the only one, however, that gains a very useful party-wide +50% speed/movement boost spell.
  18. Characters.Final Fantasy XIV Scions Of The Seventh Dawn: Her Job, as revealed in Stormblood.
  19. Literature.Schooled In Magic: Master of All: Void's discipline of magical study is magic itself. He teaches that all of the varied magical disciplines are essentially the same thing, and any magical spell can be cast by someone who understands the basic principles of magic. For example, you don't need to use alchemy to brew a potion when you can imitate the potion's effects with the right spellwork.
  20. Characters.Skulduggery Pleasant: Up until her Surge, she has Elemental and Necromancy magic.
  21. Characters.Cognitive Dissonance: Has the best healing and defense PSI, along with the whole PK Freeze line of attacks.
  22. Characters.Mega Man Star Force: He can use Battle Cards, which means he can use all elements and attributes as he sees fit. Following the original archetype, he is completely capable of using both attack cards as well as buffs, traps and healing cards.
  23. Characters.Fantasia Otome Game Series: His Half ability allows him to practice two different elements at once.
  24. Characters. The Spectral Chronicles: Playing with Fire: After awakening her Phoenix spell, she gains access to fire spells in addition to her holy ones, and some of them get combined.
  25. Characters.Lascantia Of The Horizon: His skills consist a fair mix between attacking skills and ailment-inducing skills.
  26. Characters.Tales Of Xillia: She has a moderately strong healing arte (stronger than anyone besides Elize and Leia in any case) and can cast Resurrection, but she's primarily an offensive spellcaster.
  27. ComplacentGamingSyndrome.Video Games: In Tales of Destiny 2, there's less characters than in the previous Tales games, but as soon as Harold is available the party usually ends up consisting of Kyle, Reala, Harold, and either Loni for his secondary healing abilities or Judas because he's a cool Glass Cannon (and one of the series' Ensemble Darkhorses). Though a liked character, Nanaly is almost never used, simply because her damage output is kind of low and she specializes in fire magic whereas the other two wizards have four elements to pick from.
  28. Characters.Dungeons And Dragons Classes First To Third Edition Core Classes: Bards are the inspiration for the Trope Namer from Final Fantasy, actually, technically making them the Trope Maker. They're decent melee fighters, have a diverse if limited selection of magic, and come equipped with a raft of special abilities related to music and skills. The main drawback is that they'll be outclassed in almost any area by a more dedicated class.
  29. Characters.SCP Foundation Ortothanism: The Holy Mage certainly learned many thaumaturgic practices in their many eons of life.
  30. Characters.Greed Fall: She's a melee fighter with magic spells and healing magic.
  31. ShootTheMedicFirst.Video Games: Aiming for the medics is also a good plan when dealing with Mars Clan girls, but for different reasons. Menardi and Karst are both serious threats in their own right, and have access to the One-Hit Kill attack Death Scythe.
  32. Fanfic.Burning Black: Tootie. She learns high-level attack spells of various Elements, and party-healing spells to go with single person healing she learned to back up Timmy. Her main drawback is she burns through her personal mana and has no way of recharging in battle, and if she loses her aionis bracelets or doesn't have a weapon/rod to use as a focus she can't cast magic at all.
  33. Characters.Star Ocean The Second Story: He can cast both healing and offensive spells.
  34. Characters.Genshin Impact Furina: Furina's ability to swap her Arkhe alignment lets her change up her kit to either deal damage or heal the party.
  35. Webcomic. The Descended: It is possible to combine any two elements together. You can also master all eight.
  36. VideoGame.Final Fantasy Record Keeper: Like Dissidia Final Fantasy, several characters who were Red Mages in their base games are made either pure physical attackers or pure mages. Even Squall and Lightning, who can use low-mid-tier Black and White Magic abilities, don't have even any unique relics that increase their Magic or Mind.
  37. MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic.Tropes L To P: All unicorns can use their magic for simple telekinesis, which effectively gives them an extra pair of hands. This is especially useful since ponies don't have hands. This makes tasks like turning pages, writing letters, and eating sandwiches much easier for them than they are for other ponies. Twilight Sparkle in particular can learn any magical spell, and of course, being the universe this is, a lot of what she has learned is mundane utility spells. That doesn't stop her from being a one-pony magical arsenal of destruction as well, though.
  38. Characters.Castlevania Portrait Of Ruin: White Mage: Also has some healing abilities (though mostly towards ailments) and stat-boosting spells. Throw in a time-stopping spell, a spell that negates projectiles, and some offensive spells, and she becomes more of a Red Mage.
  39. Characters. All For Luz: This is the only coven that allows their members to use all forms of the magic system.
  40. Characters.Dungeons And Dragons Giants: Eldritch giant confessors supplement their innate arcane spellcasting with levels of cleric. They believe in the sanctity of magic itself, which to them means anything done with magic is morally justified.
  41. Characters.Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia Spinoff Games: Homage: Neon's alternate costume has her don an outfit based on The Red Mage from the original Final Fantasy, only more modernized for the Stranger of Paradise setting.
  42. Characters.First To Third Edition Core Classes: Bards are the inspiration for the Trope Namer from Final Fantasy, actually, technically making them the Trope Maker. They're decent melee fighters, have a diverse if limited selection of magic, and come equipped with a raft of special abilities related to music and skills. The main drawback is that they'll be outclassed in almost any area by a more dedicated class.
  43. Characters.A Game Of Gods Taskforce Sifuri Team Magic: Can now use both White and Black magic, although she's better with Black.
  44. Characters.Marriage Of Heaven And Hell Fujiwara Household: He is efficient at both dealing damage and dealing with it.
  45. Literature.Gotrek And Felix: Max is a very well-rounded mage, and can do pretty much anything the plot demands, subject to his endurance limit.
  46. YMMV.Star Ocean The Second Story: Index entry or ZCE
  47. Characters.Rabi Ribi: Uses offensive and healing magic, and her boost attacks can provide buffs.
  48. VideoGame.Shikihime Garden: The Medic: Recovery-type himes are the only ones with the ability to heal the rest of your team. They have lower overall stats than the other types and make for terrible frontliners, but can turn into powerful and competent Combat Medics through the use of stat-boosting items, effectively making them mages that can heal.
  49. DarthWiki.Clouds Of Altaenia: Support Party Member: Her initial role in the team is a healer, and while she never loses that status, she evolves throughout the game into becoming more of an all-around magic user.
  50. Characters.Mass Effect 3 Party Members: She's a Sentinel equivalent — Incinerate, Overload, Lift Grenades and a Biotic Protector ability similar to the asari justicar's sphere.
  51. Characters.Arrowverse Legends Former Members: Uses several kinds of magic from different traditions rather than committing to a single tradition like Papa Midnite, which makes his magic weaker than if he stuck to one tradition.
  52. VideoGame.Seventh Dragon: Psychics in the 2020 games and Mages in III can use both elemental damage and recovery spells. Unlike many other examples, however, they excel at both.
  53. CombatMedic.Video Games: Lesser examples include Summoner, an offshoot of Arcanist that is the DPS counterpart to the healing Scholar, and The Red Mage from the Stormblood expansion, which marries several schools of magic together to use them in different ways than White or Black Mages. Both have some minor ability to heal other players, but they only get a basic single-target healing spell — which will be less potent than a proper healer's due to their lower Mind stat — and a single resurrection spell, which makes them better at taking some of the pressure off an actual healer's efforts to keep the party alive and in top form rather than taking over for them entirely.
  54. Characters.Burning Black: She initially was learning healing spells to help cover Timmy, but has since started studying and training to use higher level attack spells. Vicky taught her to use a dagger and sword for her own protection.
  55. Characters.Trials Of Mana Villains: He masters extremely powerful attacks, as well as equally powerful healing spells.
  56. GoodIsNotSoft.Video Games: In Baldur's Gate II, many of your Good-aligned party members, particularly Keldorn, Minsc, Mazzy, and (in the Enhanced Edition) Rasaad qualify. Aerie is also this by Throne of Bhaal. All are genuinely kind, altruistic people who are nevertheless very proactive in buttkicking for goodness. The PC can play this way too.
  57. Characters.Erfworld: Although croakamancy is her true discipline, she has learned much about nearly every other casting discipline.
  58. Characters.Demon Gaze 2: In terms of magic, Libra learns a mix of attack, healing and support. This means that using her full potential might be harder than some other magic users, since she needs both high Intelligence and Mysticism to benefit all of her spells.
  59. Characters. The Owl House The Emperors Coven: The Emperor's Coven is the only coven that allows their members to use all forms of magic.
  60. Characters.Captain Tsubasa Japanese Players: Usually loses the keeper contest with Wakabayashi, but Wakashimazu has been showed to be a strong outfield player aside from a keeper (with Hyuga even considering him better than Sawada!), which is something that Genzo and most other keepers in the series cannot boast of.
  61. Characters.Dragon Quest II: She learns several healing spells a few buffing spells, and the most powerful offensive magic in the game.
  62. Literature.Cradle Series: The Twin Stars technique allows a person to split their core and their madra, which was traditionally seen as a useless curiosity. Lindon, however, uses it to master two separate paths: The awe-inspiring Blackflame Path and a new Anti-Magic path of his own invention that relies on pure madra: The Path of Twin Stars.
  63. Characters.Final Fantasy II: Jack of All Stats: Is this initially, having both black and white magic as well as skill with a sword.
  64. Characters.Spelljammer: Scro culture dictates that those who learn magic at all multiclass as both arcane and divine magic-users. This grants them a much greater versatility in magical ability.
  65. TheMedic.Video Games: The Hero and Jerin share this role in Lufia & The Fortress of Doom. Both learn the best healing spells, including the full-party-full-heal Valor and the full-revive Rally. The Hero is also second in physical offense, while Jerin's more of a Red Mage.
  66. Characters.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: In the games, average movement speed and faster attack speed than Don, but defensively weaker than Leo.
  67. Literature.Dragon Keeper Chronicles: The Red Mage + One Hero, Hold the Weaksauce + Lightning Bruiser = Regidor. Most wizards have one tallent: Light Magic, Swamp Magic, Sound Magic. Regidor has them all.
  68. Characters.Fighting Fantasy Antagonists Old World: He can curse and attack with magic, but also expand his lifespan and heal his wounds.
  69. VideoGame.Megami Tensei II: White Magician Girl: The Partner comes close. She fits the personality type but is more of a Red Mage. However, she will be your most reliable healer throughout the game until you obtain Baal, despite her offensive abilities.
  70. Characters.Chaos Rings II: White Magician Girl: At least in personality and weapon choice, being very gentle and feminine. Her awakenings and native skills make her a little more of The Red Mage, however.
  71. Characters.Final Fantasy Tactics Advance And A 2 Jobs: They can wield offensive and curative magic in equal measure, and with their "Magick Frenzy" ability they can cast a spell and then whack their enemy with a book.
  72. Characters.Arena Of Valor Support Heroes: Peura balances out between having offensive and disruptive capabilities and healing her friends. Averted with Helen, where her skills gears more into the defensive/healing side and the only manner of offensive she has is just her second skill. This is actually closer to their Honor of Kings counterpart.
  73. Characters.Phantasy Star Online 2 Classes: They're not as hard-hitting in melee combat as a dedicated melee class nor will they put out as much magical damage as a Force, but they can dish out both in equal measure while having unique skills that enhance their supportive Techs.
  74. Characters.Goblin Slayer Other Significant Players: She uses arcane magic as well as miracles, and could even combo-cast with Female Mage as Female Bishop. She claims not to see what's so valuable about the skill compared to a more advanced single-type caster.
  75. Recap. The Owl House S 1 E 5 Covention: Power Limiter: When witches enter into a coven, they're given a tattoo which limits them to that coven's magic specialty. It's considered necessary to maintain order, so while Eda's refusal to join one lets her use any kind of magic, it's also the biggest reason she's a wanted criminal. The Emperor's coven is exempt from this restriction.
  76. Characters. The Legend Of Drizzt: He's one of the few characters in the series that can use both divine and arcane magic. It's one of the many reasons why he's so invaluable to Bregan D'aerthe.
  77. Characters.Warcraft Others: Med'an knows shaman and arcane magic. His uncle Maraad is teaching him in Light magic, as well.
  78. VideoGame.Final Fantasy Tactics: Pick a mage class and then another school of magic. Or just go Calculator and have them all! (As summoning is the sole magic class that Calculator doesn't cover, a Summoner with Calculator as a sub-class is the epitome of magic.)
  79. Characters.Super Network Wars: She uses a mixture of offensive and defensive magic.
  80. Pantheon.Character Adaptations: Ingus: Skeptic, Badass Cape, Big Brother Mentor, Consummate Professional, Deadpan Snarker, Uses earth-based attacks, Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold, Heroic Self-Deprecation, Humble Hero, The Lancer, Magic Knight, The Quiet One, The Red Mage, The Reliable One, The Stoic
  81. Characters.Suikoden IV Obel: A fabulous claw fighter and an even better mage.
  82. VideoGame. The Legend Of Dragoon: Meru is a straight example, being useful for offensive magic, but also gains a healing spell.
  83. Characters.Trouble Witches: Her use of magic includes Fire, Star, and Nature, according to her Tomboyish Witches profile.
  84. Characters.Dungeons And Dragons Classes Third Edition Prestige Classes: Probably the purest example D&D has to offer, since the mystic theurge casts both cleric and wizard spells, but will never be as good at either as a single-class character of the same level.
  85. Characters.Magic The Gathering Phyrexia Rath And Mirrodin: Besides Blue mana he apparently can make use of Black mana and White mana, as implied in the page on the Planeswalker's Guide to New Phyrexia.
  86. Characters.Fate Grand Order Morgan: Similar to Galatea, she's a Berserker who plays with the typical conventions of the class by being more support-oriented while having good offensive power. Morgan primarily focuses on herself though, offering support to her allies more as a side effect. Notably, her attack is among the higher end for Berserkers, beating out Hijikata for the title of the fourth highest ATK for Berserkers.
  87. Characters.Valkyrie Profile Einherjar: One of the few sorcerers to join the party knowing both attack and healing magic in her repertoire of spells.
  88. Literature.Way Home: K'irsan has learned the magic of the Reptokh people, absorbed the magic of their nemesis, the Reptokhors people, from an ancient mega-artifact and incorporated the magic of the Log dragons into himself to survive his battle with Roshag, thus possessing three schools of magic generally thought to be mutually exclusive.
  89. Characters. The Multiverser Saga The Multiversers Second Wave: Has a vast variety of skills and abilities to use at his disposal, which he can use and switch out with on the fly. Assisted in this with help from his AI and mental roommates.
  90. Characters. The Owl House Hexside: Despite studying the illusion track at Hexside, "Reaching Out" reveals that Emira knows some healing magic and Edric knows some beast keeping and potion magic. As of "Labyrinth Runners" they are officially multi-track.
  91. Literature. The Generalist: Frank qualifies as this, having four (possibly more) Magia to work with, three of them outlawed or restricted by the Order of Magi. Frank, being Frank, had lied the entire time about his fifth, gaining him the upper hand in a critically important battle. It is explicitly stated that "normal" humans can have up to five Magia, even some opposing. Within the Order of Magi, the De Ferens family are noted for having more than five Magia, including the Darkwatch himself.
  92. TabletopGame.Mork Borg: Often an old codger with an inclination of ancient magics from the depths of eldritch origins. Few can truly master the world's magic as much as the Esoteric Hermits can, for none can truly hope to understand its power without going mad.
  93. Characters.Tales Of Innocence: Alongside the wide variety of physical attacks, he is also able to heal and increase his own attack stats as well as his allies, cast long range magical attacks to one enemy as well as deal massive damage to multiple enemies despite only using one element type.
  94. Characters.Wild Arms XF: As an Arcanist, she has both offensive and healing magic.
  95. Pantheon.Giants And Smallfolk: Portfolio: Can Be Very Stealthy For His Size With Nature's Guise, The Only Completely Good Hero In The Ancients, Slow Thinking and Easily Distracted, Combat Medic, Nature Hero, Leech Seed Transfers Enemy Health to Self and Allies, Kung-Fu Wizard, Balance of Offense and Protection in Abilities, Slow Base Attack Speed
  96. Characters.Honor Of Kings Mage Heroes: With her kit she can stay in the Mid Lane, or be played as a support in the Duo Lane. Because her kit is built with healing and damage at the same time.
  97. Characters.Deltarune Noelle: She has spells to heal, to pacify tired enemies, and to attack with ice.
  98. VideoGame.Spell Force III: Undergast is a prime example, being proficient in White Magic and Black Magic simultaneously. Dialogue implies that this is virtually unheard of in Eo because the two schools are considered mutually exclusive. It gives him access to the unique Paradox Magic, one of the most useful skill trees in the whole game because its abilities inflict heavy debuffs on the enemy while buffing and healing your own units at the same time. Also leads into a serious case of Gameplay and Story Segregation when Pariah expresses amazement about this skill combination despite having it themselves.
  99. Fanfic.Dont Look Back: True to canon, Luz, Viney, Jerbo and Barcus all get to study multiple tracks. In addition, Marcy takes up potions, plants and abominations while Amity decides to study everything like Luz.
